Had this for a year now. Had many happy adventures with the kids. We have been close to seals and a basking shark. Can easily seat two adults and a child. I would definitely recommend the skeg.

Arrived as a birthday present. Set up in the garden went okay, with it all being fairly intuitive. Hairdryers and light weight electric driven bed inflators will not get sufficient pressure into the chambers, so a better hand pump is needed. The seats are almost not worth the effort as they are flimsy, adding little support. Yesterday was the maiden voyage onto a local canal. My son and I are two big fellas and the kayak took to us well. It was sturdy and we had no issues during the two mile journey. I did order the skeg (fixed rudder) separately and that fitted well onto the kayak, not sure what would have happened without it. It is simple to inflate, rolls up nicely to put in the boot of your car, but is s two person lift once inflated. The only reason for dropping a star was the seating.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis kayak has given me many years of enjoyment. This will never compare to the performance of a proper open Canadian canoe, but if you just want something that can get you onto the water for some fun then this is the kayak for you. It’s also great noticing the reaction on peoples’ faces when you finish the day, deflate it, roll it up, and pop it in a box in the boot of your car.
As for size: well we have had myself, my wife, my 8 year old son, and the dog all aboard comfortably – and no: the dogs claws don’t burst the kayak (the kayak is a lot stronger than that!)
The only reason I have marked it down one star is the additional outlay to buy everything else to get safely on the water: a pump (why no pump – ridiculous!); paddles (again, ridiculous – like you’re going to have a few just lying around the house?); a skeg (keeps you from zig-zagging through the water when paddling); and most importantly – life jackets / floatation jackets.

This Kayak is great lots of space I have used it on the canel and also in Fareham Creek tidal. It performs well on the canel and also tidal rivers nice and stable. I timed things badly and had to beat agaist the tide and it was not too bad. Pleased I was not in a dinghy. I would highly recomend this kayak. Nice and light one could easily sleep in it.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersFr diesen Preis ein super Boot.

Easy to inflate and use. The children and I had great fun using it in Lake windermere and rivers too. Seating is bit problematic had difficulty keeping them upright even though they were inflated correctly. Also without skeg rudder you can’t row straight. Just bought the skeg and there are no instructions to fit it. Sevylor should provide the skeg as standard and provide a how to fit video.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWith the exception of one poorly made valve and the confusing operation of the seat valves, this kayak is great value for a fun time on the water. As I have neither the storage space nor funds for a rigid kayak, this is the best compromise. We use it in open sea close to lifeguarded beaches and always with an eye on the weather and sea conditions and naturally with buoyancy aids on everyone. With those safety precautions in mind, I am very impressed the stability and wave riding capabilities of the craft. Being flexible it moves with the waves if you approach the swell head on, even if a wave catches you broadside, I found the kayak to be surprisingly stable, and being very light it surfs into shore like a dream.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI brought this for use on flat water as well as sea use. I have used kayaks since I was a young child and this is my second inflatable one. I unpacked it and layed it out. It inflated quickly I was rather shocked at the size. Its got a carry handle at the front and back that works really well. I used it on the canel for the first time and found it to be very stable it was easy to get into and out. I found it very easy to keep it in a straght line. I assume the reviewers who could not keep it in a straght line have very little experience. The seats are fine when adjusted correctly. I would highly recomend this to anyone who wants an inflatable kayak. The only bad point is there is not anywhere to tie a line other thanon the carry handles.

I have been wanting one of these for years and in the sale I managed to get it very cheap. Overall I am very pleased with the quality and speed it can be inflated, the stability is quite good considering it is only cheap. I did not have the rear fin when first taking it out and found it fairly easy to steer although my 11 year old son struggled a bit so I might be investing in one. BE AWARE however to take the internal plug for the floor of the canoe as it came in the packaging with the instruction manual that I left at home on the first day so had to drive back to get it.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI chose this kayak based on the reviews on other forums as well as these here on Amazon.

I have read some 1* rating about how this product was a waste of money and not fit for purpose. I fail to see what the issues are, and suspect expectations are set far too high.

This kayak is brilliant, for what it is. An easy to transport weekend, light use, 2+1pleasure kayak.

Firstly. The sensible thing is to inflate and check it out on the lawn first to figure out how in goes together, and get the hang of the seats and learn how to get yourself comfortable in them before hitting the water. Ok the seats aren’t perfect but with a bit of body adjustment their ok..

Older models don’t have a skeg, ok it’s without, but better with one. It ultimately comes down to technique..

I found the inflator guides on the two side ribs useful to show if you have sufficient air in them. The floor can be pumped up nice and hard. There is no significant bend in the boat at all. If there is then you simply haven’t put enough air in.

We use the kayak regularly and there’s enough room for two adults and a child + picnic gear.

Take a small towel or two to help mop up any water that may get splashed in during rowing. But if your sensible there really isn’t much at all.

As yet we haven’t had any punctures despite brushing past small branches and going over stones when in very shallow water, so to quash the reviews stating its nothing more than a glorified kids Lilo as silly.

After use the kayak deflates real easy and as long as you take note about how the straps go around to stow away after use it easily folds up into same size as when it was first taken out the box.

Anyone with half an ounce of common sense will not go onto open water without wearing a lightweight buoyancy, but the craft is perfectly stable especially on a river or lake.

I personally wouldn’t take this kayak out on the sea just in case as an open craft can easily take on a lot of water. There’s specific craft if this is what your after.

There are lots of similar inflatable kayaks on the market, smaller, shallower, etc, so pick one that’s right for its intended purpose.

Basically it a great family fun kayak for messing around on the river or lake, take time to get used to it. Be sensible, and have fun.

I bought this Kayak to supplement a cheap Homebase one and am most impressed at its quality. It feels far more robust, well designed, stable, and durable than the Homebase item, and can comfortably cope with three persons. Do make sure you also purchase the skeg, otherwise you’ll find yourself snaking back/forth across the water, and get a decent pump as the electric one I used with my other kayak didn’t cut the mustard with this one. Overall I’m very impressed with this Kayak.

Excellent, great fun. Removed the middle seat, as I think it’d be pretty cramped with three adults, no problem with the dog his claws didn’t scratch or burst the plastic, we even ran aground on sharp rocks and there was no problem. Used in windy conditions and really pleased with how the canoe tracked, even without a skeg. It’s been fine in the sea and in calmer waters, really light can be lifted easily by one person, took about 10 minutes to inflate with one rubbish foot-pump. I’d definitely recommend this product, although I think it’s impossible to get it back in its box for storage, would suggest getting a heavy duty bag to keep it safe in the shed or garage (we’re using one of those blue Ikea bags and it just about fits).

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersLoads of fun and it doesn’t take to long to pump up with a 2 Litre pump. It has three chambers for safety, Base, and each side pump separately. It quite long about 12ft ish and the 31.4 stone (200kg) loading margin is good. Oars and pump are NOT included though so you will need to purchase these separately. I would also highly recommend an additional buoyancy aid or life jacket for safety.
Update… having now used it twice, once on a small lake and on Lake Coniston, its still great fun.
For the latter we were with a group of about 100 people and this was by far the most popular boat.
As others have said the seats are rubbish as they are just mini lilo type seats and they collapse flat easily. Not a major issue though as they are only thin so you just sit on the floor, or kneel.
It takes about 15-20 mins from taking it out of the car, to being on the water, but pumps up in a little over 5 mins with a 2 litre pump.
The carry straps work and are a bonus but dig in to your shoulders a bit after a while as they are narrow.

Taking everything into consideration, would I still buy one… a definite YES as the fun far outweighs the minor issues.

Bought this to replace very elderly pump up dingy for extended family holiday. We were a bit unsure as we had not had a kayak before but this proved quite safe even in some choppy water. There was plenty of room, and the inflation safety gauges were a clever touch. What a great buy, although if the weather hadn’t been so good maybe not used as much. But we were lucky and it got used almost every day for nearly 3 weeks. Huge amount of fun and enjoyment had by all. Amazingly clever design, making boating possible even with a small car, and extremely sturdily made. We hope it lasts as long as the previous one. Delivered promptly and very well packed. Price was excellent, well below others similar, and we felt it was a great purchase that gave a real focus to a smashing beach holiday. Would recommend without hesitation.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersGreat kayak, literally takes minutes to set up and put away. Took it out on the water with a couple of friends, can take three grown adults (providing two of them are skinny) with myself being 14 stones and my two friends having a combined weight of 20 stones the kayak stood the test. I would give the Tahiti plus 5 stars if it wasn’t for one terrible flaw which has tarnished my gleeful thoughts towards sevylor. At some point during the deflating, bailing and putinbootofcar process, the valve for the hull was lost. This wasn’t noticed until a few weeks later when it was time for the good ship’s second voyage. A bit of a pain, but I thought ‘no problem’, I’ll just pay the tenner and get the packet of two boston valves which ‘fit any sevylor kayak’. For some absurd reason the valve for the hull of the kayak is a different size to the ‘all healing’ boston valves. I contacted sevylor and was told that they no longer stock the Tahiti plus and that I would have to search online for the desired valve…. Well I have searched online and can’t find the valve which fits the hull. If anyone has had a similar problem I would greatly appreciate advice on how to fix this. Thankfully it does still float without inflating the hull, however with three bums protruding from the bottom of the kayak, the ribbed effect creates a hell of a lot of drag. Furthermore, without the support of an inflated hull I fear it’s only a matter of time before the Tahiti plus becomes a venus fly trap.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWorks well if it has a skeg, without which it will not keep a straight line.

The material is tough enough to cope with rubbing against shallow stones.

Quick to inflate (10 mins set up time); but the instruction booklet is inadequate. To understand the pressure gauge ‘google’ the kayak and you find more detailed instructions.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLike a lot of people who have reviewed this product I bought this as my first kayak to use with my daughter on the local river, not wanting to buy a “proper” kayak that requires a roof rack etc. Took it to Lake Como in Italy and it was fantastic. Easily holds 2 adults + 1 child (4-5 years old), although mainly used it with 1 adult + 2 kids.

Skeg is required particularly when windy – Skeg at front if going into the wind, at the rear if going with the wind (found this out after researching which end the Skeg should go).

Ignore the negative comments on the valves and their “design issues” – the reviewer just hasn’t worked them out yet. Basically there are 2 types of valve. One-way valves for the bottom and 2 side chambers – these retain the air once the pump has been removed, without having to close anything quickly and risk losing air. The others (on the seats and splash covers at both ends of the kayak) are similar to those you find on swimming arm bands etc, except with one major difference – when you pull them out to blow them up they are 2-way (air is lost when you remove your mouth), but are actually 1-way once you pop them back in, so with a bit of practice it is easy to blow the seats and end covers up well and without losing any air.

It is a bit of a fiddle rolling it back up into a rucksack, but as with anything in life practice makes perfect, or at least something you can chuck on your back. The instructions make no sense but if you’re logical you can work something out – I do it by removing the splash cover with the straps on, rolling up the kayak, place the splash cover on top and you should see how the straps work (black ones wrap around to secure the kayak, the grey ones form the rucksack straps)

In terms of weight I guess that’s a relative issue. I didn’t find it too heavy and even managed my daughter on my shoulders walking up a steepish hill (medium build and fitness)

Would only use in calm conditions, but why would you want to go kayaking in any thing other than calm conditions unless you’re a fanatic, in which case you would have proper kayak with a roof rack?

    Strongly recommend for the price.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOnly used mine on Lake Windermere – gets about with no fuss and the kids and me love it.

    +ves
Easy to inflate and get ready – takes about 5-10mins – need a 2 x 2l air pump – job done to inflate.
    Stable on the water.
Took 100kg Dad and 2x 30kg kids no problem
With skeg goes well and manouverable.
Looks good and was out and about for 2 hrs doing easy strokes and was no bother – very good fun to use. Only me paddling (for now) but could imagine a couple folk could get about pretty easily and cover good distances.
Once washed and dried – deflated and packed away in 5mins.

    -ves
If 100kg Dad sit in the middle the Kayak bends a bit (not much) but the Wife thought it looked funny and I was told to stop eating biscuits (again) – to overcome – sit in the back – much better back support and control
Seats give poor lower back support – have to shuffle if in the middle of front – maybe there is a technique I’ve not sussed out yet.

Overall – great family Kayak to mess about in the water in – cant beat if for a 1st Kayak to get everybody more confident for mucking about on Lakes/Lochs. Take care coming into shallow water (dont bottom out) – jump out and pull/lift the Kayak ashore. Great value for money.

Great kayak for lakes. Easily held three 13 year old boys. The only reason it had 4 stars instead of 5 is because the ‘skirts’ at the front and back of the boat were pretty impossible to blow up. To be fair it didn’t make much difference to the stability/ safety of the boat.
Easy to inflate main body of boat – just used a car pump that we use for camping airbeds. Good value for money – the best deal I found was via Amazon – boat itself despatched quickly from Decathlon.
Just what we wanted and I felt very good value for money.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWe bought this kayak after reading all the Amazon feedback and it has lived up to all the positive reviews.

We river-tested it this weekend on a camping trip. Firstly it worked beautifully as a fairly stable ‘play-around’ inflatable for the children near the campsite. Then, all four of us (two adults and a four and six year old, just below the 200kg max recommended, although bear in mind only three seats) set off for an hour’s trip and the kayak performed brilliantly. It glides surprisingly well. It was a little slower than our friends’ rigid family kayak but not enough to cause a problem. We then had the advantage when we had to lift it out to bypass weirs because the Sevylor Tahiti, being inflatable, is of course very light.

The kayak does drift a little in the wind and we did have to fit the skeg that the reviews advised buying.

It was very quick and easy to pump up the kayak with the Sevylor pump, which I’d bought separately, and it was great to arrive at the pub at the end of the trip, deflate the boat quickly and stuff it in the boot of the car.

We are very pleased with this purchase and we will use it a lot on slow-moving rivers, lakes and sheltered coastal waters at slack tide on relatively calm days. We would be nervous using it in strong winds or tides because we are not sure how easy it would be to control.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this a few weeks back based on some of the reviews I’ve seen on Amazon. I’ve got to say that I was not dissapointed. The package came on time and we spent 20 minutes blowing it up and assembling. It is incredibly easy to inflate. We took it to our local river and me the wife and daughter had no trouble getting in with space for a picnic and the pump, towels etc. It doesn’t track to badly but we did have to battle a bit to get it going straight at some points. I took it out again this weekend and took the middle seat out and had me and my friend (both big strong lads) and our two daughters in the middle. Again it took the weight with ease and we had a great laugh on the river. The seats are a bit flimsy and do not support your back properly and we have had a puncture already as the skin is not to thick. Having said that though it is incredible value for money and a great laugh. The puncture was easier to fix than one on a bike inatube!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe are used to boats with engines – thought we would give this a try for a change and a bit of exercise. Very easy to inflate and use – in the water within minutes. Likewise, when ready to pack away – you really can roll it up and have it as a ruck sack within a few minutes and not too heavy. Very sturdy – easy to get decent speed up to get around – not particularly good in a straight line (unless we were doing it wrong) – but never the less a great laugh. I was surprised how stable it was to be honest – you can easily get on board and out again whilst it was afloat with out too much trouble.

Don’t forget to order your paddles and a pump if you do not have these – it does not come with them.

My excuse for buying this was to give my two kids and me some extra fun when we go on our annual massive family camp (big family) but the real reason was to have that one extra gadget that my brother hasn’t got. He wins “coolest camper of the year” award every year, despite my turning up last year with a 240Watt iPod docking station that I built myself.

This year I’m bringing a top quality, cool-as-a-cucumber boat but do you know what??? He’s gone and bought himself a caravan.

I’m undecided whether he deserves the “lifetime award” coolest camper, or should be docked points for NOT camping anymore.

bought the tahiti plus after going out on loch’s in scotland in it and off some of the islands on the west coast and was impressed that 2 fully grown adults can row this with supplys in the middle if no kid involved.
only thing was the seats aren’t as supportive as you’d like but i already knew that and overall ability makes up for it.

as has been said, check where you use this and preferably a calm day as the boat is an inflatable still!
i will be purchasing the rudder (skeg) for this as it is prone to turning pretty easily andthat would help with it.

    very fast delivery as well

worth the money if you’re just get interested in getting outdoors as it is easily stored away (more so if u have a car as i havent tried to put it back up into a backpack yet)

    To address the negative review.

This is an inflatable, it is cheaper and lighter than hardbody kayaks.
Hardbody are better for performance, hardbody are more durable and controllable for rougher conditions.
Inflatables are good for tranquil water and calm days.

2 + 1 is way too hopeful, It takes one or two big people.

Inflatng it is a chore i used an air compressor. It can be topped up by blowing with mouth on the two side struts. Using the valves. The underbody is hard to keep full inflated but are not as essential as the side struts. I keep mine inflated and top it up when i start in the water.

I used two seats strapped together then manhandled backwards to give proper back support. Takes a bit of shifting around, not intuitive to get proper back support.

Has a tendancy to turn in the water due to the wind. Also ships a bit of water when getting in out. The two splash decks and the seats are a pain to inflate and seem to be an afterthought.

Yes it is not perfect, but it is far lighter than hardbody canoes.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersIf you and your partner want to take up kayaking, this is a great product to start with. It takes almost no time to pump it up with the
Sevylor double action hand pump, so no problems there. It deflates fairly easily, too. Best of all, when you haven’t done this kind of sport before, it feels ‘safe as houses’. So go on, get one and have some fun and exercise on the water for a reasonable price 🙂

Golden Review Award: 215 From Our UsersIMPORTANT TIP:
    ————————
If you don’t intend to go kayaking with “passengers”, I recommend one of this kayak’s “baby brothers” (basically the single-seat versions) as they are more compact, lighter, and therefore more portable.

If, however, you intend to take friends/family out… this is the best I’ve come across (and I’ve tried about 6 others)

Let’s start with the packaging and work from there:

The kayak comes in a reasonably-sized box, and is folded inside it along with a multi-lingual “manual” (nothing to it really) and puncture repair kit (more on that later). Since the entire package is wrapped in a transparent plastic bag inside the box, removal from the box is very simple.

Okay, let’s get on to the product itself:

Before we get to the boat, it’s worth noting (as others have said) that you need to buy a pump for it! The Sevylor 2x2Ltr double-action hand pump is simply brilliant for inflating this product, and total inflation time is under 5 minutes once you’ve had a practise.
Also, it doesn’t come with the paddles, so you’ll need to buy those separately (lots of options out there, so take your pick really)

    Simple:
    ————-

Remove the kayak from the package and release the two straps (not the velcro ones, the ones running through the compression locks) and unroll the boat. You’ll note the blue section on the outside of the roll unfolds in the opposite direction to the rest of the boat itself, so consider this when orienting the thing if you’re inflating it at the side of a river or lake! You need about 4 meters of jetty or suitable ground (no broken glass or anything that’ll cut the material) to set up in.
With the boat unrolled, locate the inflation valve for the bottom section (at the rear of the kayak) and inflate this first.
Now, on the side pontoons there are very cool inflate/deflate valves. Make sure the valves’ bottom sections are screwed in nice and tight (mine arrived loose so I had difficulty inflating the pontoons the first time I tried, but quickly found the problem and tightened up the deflate valve caps).
With the deflate valve caps tightened up, open up the inflate valves (which are part of the same valve assemblies ON TOP OF the deflate valves) and use your pump to inflate them. If you’re using the Sevylor 2x2Ltr hand pump (recommended) simply inflate the pontoons until there is significant resistence on the pump (you’ll know it when you feel it) then close up the valves securely (unlike some of the other valves, the side pontoon valves are pressure-sealed and air won’t escape when you disconnect the pump).

Now inflate the splash guard covers on the ends of the kayak. You don’t need to use the pump for this, as a single lung full of air will inflate them fully. Now, be careful here because you’ll find they want to deflate immediately as soon as you stop blowing into them (slightly annoying). To prevent this, push the valve firmly before you release your lips (or pump if you’re using one) and keep it held firmly down while closing the valves (this applies to the seats – discussed further down – too)

Now fold the two inflated end pieces (the blue sections) over the ends of the boat, attach them to the slide locks on each side of the boat and be sure to secure the shotcord (elastic cord) around each of the attachment points (this’ll keep the splash guards in place and prevent water getting into the kayak on the ends).

Now comes the seats (which as others have said aren’t exactly “brilliant”, but not too bad once you’ve figured out how they work and get used to them.

Inflate the seats (I recommend using a pump for this, and you’ll need to press the valves firmly down before you release the pump to prevent sudden deflation) you’re going to use, then ensure that the straps attaching them to the kayak aren’t twisted. Orient them towards the front of the kayak… you’ll know they’re facing the right way when the straps go BEHIND the seat backs!

Now here’s a tip! The splash cover on the rear of the kayak contains a velcro-locking compartment on its underside. Place the puncture kit inside there and close it up nicely. This way, should you get a puncture while out on the water, you stand at least SOME chance of being able to seal it up (be that on the water or on land at the lake/riverside.

    Tough:
    ————-

The material is very rugged, and resistant to an impressive amount of abrasion (brushing up against rocks, roots, riverbed and even wooden jettys). I watched a video on YouTube before buying this one of a man in this kayak’s baby brother (identical materials and construction, but smaller with only one seat) taking it through some rapids on a very fast-moving river. He brushed past lots of rocks and the thing held perfectly (no leaks).

Properly inflated, this kayak DOES NOT bend badly when you step into it (most inflatable boats do, and that’s a bad thing). You can adjust your position confidently… but if the kayak does want to fold or warp where the weight is concentrated, it means you haven’t inflated it properly (so pull it out of the water and add some air to the three main sections before taking it out into open waters)

    Stable:
    ————-
As I mentioned above, assuming you’ve properly inflated the kayak, it doesn’t want to warp or bend when you get into or out of it (or when adjusting your position). It’s remarkably stable (even when you’re leaning to asist a rapid turn) and even if you did somehow roll it over, because it’s inflatable it’ll continue to float even if the interior filled with water. That’s a good advantage to have if you have a tendency to roll kayaks (though the better solution would be to seek training to help you learn how to be more stable)

It sits higher in the water than wooden and fiberglass kayaks (makes sense… it’s inflatable with a flat kiel) but because it has a flat kiel, it isn’t as prone to rolling as wooden/fiberglass traditional kayaks.

    Fun:
    ————-

Well, if you’ve ever been kayaking or boating before, you already know it’s fun. If you haven’t and this is your first attempt… you’re going to seriously enjoy it!
With it being so fast and simple to get this kayak ready for the water, and with it being so tough and stable… you’ll be able to relax and enjoy your time on the water without worrying about sinking or ending up in the drink.

    Bonus:
    ————-
It packs so small that it fits easily into a car boot (I actually strap mine to the pillion seat of my motorbike). Solid kayaks require either a trailer or a roof rack… so this is a huge plus!

It’s not particularly heavy (weighs less than 15kg, and feels substancially lighter than that when pulling it out of the water)

It rolls up into a sort-of “backpack” you can carry on your back (though I wouldn’t recommend it as it’s not terribly comfortable to carry in such a way). Fortunately the backpack straps are adjustable enough that you can carry it like a duffelbag (easier to do, more comfortable).

Get to know the kayak before you take it out to use. I unpacked it on my front lawn and spent about half an hour getting used to it (inflating it and figuring out what’s what). That way you won’t feel pressured by the desire to get it in the water (which can lead you to miss important things, and compromise your safety)

With two people aboard, there’s a lot of extra room for carrying a picnic (or even camping gear). The max rated load is 200kg, but (though obviously you should use your best judgement as your experience may vary) I’ve had around 250kg in it and it still sat high in the water (without incident).

Remember if you’re going out as two adults and one child, place one adult at the front, one at the back, and the child in the middle (optimal boyancy).

    Enjoy 🙂

    Enjoy 🙂

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersKajak mit Doppelhubpumpe in 7-10 min. aufgeblasen, mitgekaufte Finne problemlos hinten eingehngt. Preis-Leistung optimal. Kaufempfehlung

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersAs most other peoples reviews this is a great first time boat. Definately big enough for two long legged adults. A child would be a bit of a push too. The boat seemed really stable on the water, even though we were useless at using it, we got absolutely soaked though – there is no protection at all but that was due to our paddles/technique/frantic splashing. The boat does seem a little light and we tried it on a river and I didnt particularly like how light it felt. We kept getting dragged and spun about on a relatively calm river – although we are first timers so we aren’t very good yet. As everyone has said WHY have they put a normal blow up valve on the floor panel.. when all the rest are those ones that you can stop blowing up and no air escapes while you put the plug on. Same applies to the seats and spray cover arches which we couldnt actually inflate at all because the air just rushed back out. This made the seats a tad too soggy and meant you scrunched over and got a wet bum. Just didnt make any sense. It would be good to have a few handles on the sides so you can moor up/get in and out/attach bags in the boat too so they dont fall out. Oh and the ‘back pack’ and folding it back up this is useless and just does not work!

All in all, good first time boat – but wasnt enamored with it. Few irritating design faults that ruined it a bit but could easily have been remedied at design stage.

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersBought this kayak for use on the Thames with my 6 year old son. Wanted a 2+1 / 3 seater to enable us to have plenty of room for taking food and drink and other bits and pieces for our “expeditions”!

The boat comes neatly packed in a single box and doesn’t come with any accesories, so to get going you’ll need a good pump, some paddles, life jackets/bouyancy aids and I recommend a skeg (more on this later). I would also recommend a practice inflation in the garden before you take it on the water – it’ll cut down your prep time at the water’s edge and you’ll be able to fiddle with seat positions, etc.

In terms of prep it really does inflate in about 5 minutes, however by the time you’ve inflated seats, tied down your kit, put paddles together, etc, then a realistic “car boot to launch” time is probably 15 to 20 minutes. Still very good!Being an inflatable you’re not going to want to scrape it down a slipway, but it’s so stable that launches from a low dock or bank or getting in from the shallows are easy (even juggling a 6 year old at the same time).

Based on other reviews I bought a Sevylor official skeg to fit on the stern of the boat, which it does easily. It does track nicely with one fitted, especially with the paddling power difference between dad in the back and son up front. When little one was having a rest I found it paddled very nicely, responding well to a long, efficient stroke, and it turns on a sixpence. I haven’t tried it without a skeg but I can imagine it would be less efficient with two paddlers.

The PVC material it’s made of is fairly thick and gives you some confidence – I get the feeling it would be fine bumping slow up against blunt obstacles like stumps/roots on the river bank. It’s certainly robust enough to bump up against a jetty or other smooth(ish) surface. The inflation indicators are a boon – in the recent very hot weather it enabled me to keep an eye on the pressures in the side tubes whilst paddling on the river under very hot sun and let a little bit out of one side that had crept up a bit higher than the other. Spray skirts fore and aft make for handy storage for a few bits, although I find that ditching the centre seat but fitting its webbing strap in place gives a very good anchor point you can strap a small cooler, dry bag, etc to. For river use I also knot a rope on to the bow carry handle, and I have made a home-made paddle leash for my son’s paddle in case it goes overboard (some paracord and a carabiner can clip to the eyelets the spray deck fasteners use.

The seats aren’t the most comfortable, it’s true. I might look for another seating option for me there. If you are taller, try inflating the seats fully, and pushing the seat base right back under the back. I found this gave better support but only for a while – a bum shuffle backwards is required at regular intervals to regain lower back support. Again the stability of the craft means this is no problem.

Because the boat flexes it handles wash from larger craft with no problems – in fact you get an interesting rollercoaster effect which my son loves so we keep “surfing” wake! This boat is maneouverable enough to handle a busy river easily, and it’s larger size and open nature gives you a bit more presence. It’s quite wde so you may want to consider a longer paddle to clear the side tubes if you are shorter but I’m happy with this as a trade for the extra stability.

All-in-all this is a great family boat, but I would think 2 adults and a child a bit of a squash. 2 adults or 1 and a child will have a great time messing about on the water. 3 or 4 hour river trips with a lunch stop are no problem if you have a little bit of paddling fitness and with a set of lightweight paddles my six year old can help out in between resting and watching the wildlife. A recommended purchase especially as Amazon’s price is currently extremely keen.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersJust tested this kayak having made Skeggs at both the front and rear underside to give it good directional tracking, I must say it totally worked! The tracking is rock steady, yet easy to manoeuvre and more stable than a full fibreglass kayak.

I think one adult and a small child is okay anything over and you may be expecting a bit much weight wise.

Careful around sharp objects, stones on the bottom etc, as I don’t think it will stand up to much abuse, and as with all inflatables don’t over inflate as the sun’s heat may increase the inflation pressure but with a little care it should be great.

The Skeggs were made easily with some waste cuts of upvc cover board from roofing company’s its solid enough yet easy to cut and shape, this was mounted on a flat off cut of floor tile and attached with budgie chords to the boat cleets with ease.

Sounds a bit makeshift but boy does it work.

Hope this helps, see you on the loch!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersEin fantastisches Kajak die Qualitt ist sehr gut.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersDer Sevylor Kajak Tahiti Plus ist ein Kajak, was fr den einfachen Gebrauch vollkommen ausreicht.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersMyself and my hubby Ian, purchased this kayak, so we could put it in the boot and store it easy, when not in use. It is exellent for this purpose and great value for money we love it and our miniture dashund pickles also loves it as he likes to go along as well. The only thing i will say is, it is perfect for to average size adults and a small child or dog but not three adults unless very slim and small framed. It inflatted & deflated very quickly with the hand pump we also bought and rudder. (not sure thats what its called but steering with this is easy). All i can advice is that, When you first inflate it take the pump on your first journey as on our first trip on the canal, it was a very hot day and one side of the kayak seamed to be going down very slowly so we had to stop and blow it up with our mouth it wasn’t hard to do but it was due to the heat and we have not had any problems since. I am over the moon and cannot wait to go out soon as the rain stops. THIS IS AN EXELLENT PURCHASE WORTH EVERY PENNY…. ALONG WITH YEARS OFF FUN AS VERY GOOD QUALITY..

Golden Review Award: 56 From Our UsersAs recommended I bought this kayak with the 11 pump and was glad I did, you would not want to be blowing this up in any other way, it’s quick and powerful and gives you a good workout to boot!

When I first blew it up I was delighted with the size and look of it. It is sturdy, good looking and nothing like the kind of seaside dingy look I was half expecting!

Reading some of the previous reviews I was a bit worried about not having a skeg (which seem to be unavailable worldwide!?) as people were talking about going round in circles. Turns out this is just if you are not very good at paddling. We were a bit worried about this when we first took it on the Thames in Wiltshire, and so launched it out of site of any potential observers.

we blew it up, (very quickly) stowed all our stuff on board including small dog and tentatively pushed out onto the river from a small beachy area, (after waiting for a bunch of people in ‘real’ canoes to go by first!) To our delight it went fabulously! We originally had two single paddles from an old blow up dingy, we did great with these but have since got double paddles, which is much better, faster and gives us more manoeuvrability.

On our return we pulled up at the jetty outside the pub, and at the same time a couple with a ‘real’ canoe were also disembarking. We felt slightly embarrassed by our ‘pseudo’ canoe but that soon wore off as we watched them struggle with foam padding, ropes and straps while loading it onto the car roof. Meanwhile we strolled by with our deflated canoe on our back, popped it in the boot and went for a beer!

We have now been on the Thames, on the canals and on the sea, paddling between two bays in Kent, great fun!

This is the good bit… Unfortunately on our last river trip we noticed that one side of the canoe was gently deflating. We assumed we must have somehow got a puncture, but couldn’t figure out how as we have been very careful with it. It turns out that actually one part of the seam between the bottom and the side had slightly split and there was no way the puncture repair kit was going to fix it. So this saturday morning we emailed Amazon who called us immediately back. Upon hearing our story they offered to send us a new canoe and pick up the old one! I’m writing this on Monday afternoon and the old one has been picked up and the new one has arrived!! I can honestly say I have never had such superb customer service! Astonishing and brilliant!

Hopefully this is not a standard fault with this boat but Sevylor have a great reputation so I’m guessing this is not a common occurrence. All in all if you’re like us, and not too serious but want to get out on the water and have some fun, then I’d highly recommend this product.

Golden Review Award: 36 From Our UsersWhat a great purchase – we went for the 2+1 to get a little more space and fit a little one in the middle if needed and it does just that. Great for 2 or 3 of you in, maybe a touch too big for one but still fun! Its so quick & easy to pump (bought the sevylor pump) We needed two for us & the kids so we needed to watch the price but still get decent products and these were supposedly tougher than others at a similar price. We have used them most days. The seats are really comfy and it is very stable. We found that you perhaps dont have the bottom fully inflated so that the kyaks arent too high out of the water to get the right balance. Great fun for Friends and family on the river! The rudder is a must!
