Fantastic sound and if at a moderate level of sound you can hear people talking, birds singing etc.
Dislike – price. Seem expensive to me.

This review is for the Openrun headphones, not the Pro version.

I bought some aftershox air’s a few years ago but had to return them as they just weren’t good enough – the battery life was mediocre, not waterproof but worst of all you could hardly hear them when cycling.

After hearing that all these complaints had been fixed I tried the openruns at a demo stand in Costco and immediately bought them – they are fantastic. I run and cycle with them and the sound is clear and although not up to the sound of good in-ear headphones I have zero complaints about volume or sound quality.
I could have bought the pro’s but after reading that the difference in sound quality is minimal I thought I’d rather have these waterproof headphones (instead of ‘sweatproof’) than the better battery on the Pro’s – saving about 40 whilst I’m at it.

I love it when I enjoy a purchase this much with no regrets or compromises.

Fantastic Headphones
I have been using the older version Aftershokz Aeropex for almost 2 years. These were fantastic when out running or out on the MTB.
Unfortunately the left side of the Aeropex started rattling while I was running, I was lucky as they were still in warranty and got a full refund so I used to money to by a pair of Openruns with them being the updated version of the Aeropex and was not disappointed.
I do not use these earphones for optimum sound quality, but all that said they do provide a great range and even have 2x EQ settings. If you wish to improve the Bass then I recommend using earplugs while listening but the open ear aspect is brilliant, listen to music while still being aware of your surroundings.
They stay firm and you almost forget you are wearing them from time to time, the buttons are simple to use and can be easily operated while wearing gloves.
The magnetic charging point is also a nice touch, much easier than plugging in & removing chargers
I definitely recommend these headphones.

Sehr gut und wertig ausgefüh
Ich habe die Kopfhrer fr meine Frau bestellt, um ihr, da sie nach einer falschen Behandlung in ihrer Kindheit defekte Trommelfelle hat und ihr ein Hrgert auch nur bedingt hilft. Sie konnte durch diese Kopfhrer auch auf dem komplett ausgefallenen Ohr, bei dem auch das Hrgert nicht mehr wirkt, wieder etwas hren. Die Kopfhrer wurden daher mit dem Fernsehgert gekoppelt, welches Bluetooth und Lautsprecherton gleichzeitig ausgeben kann. Leider stellte sich heraus, dass durch die offene Bauweise der Fernsehton fr sie doppelt ankam, durch den unvermeidlichen Lag wurde daraus nur ein unverstndlicher Geruschemix, somit sind die Kopfhrer also fr diese Problemstellung unbrauchbar und wurden daher zurckgeschickt. Mit einer reinen Bluetoothquelle erfllen sie aber ihren Zweck sehr gut und sind unbedingt empfehlenswert. Der Preis knnte etwas moderater sein…

These are amazing they are on my head from the moment i wake up till the moment i go to bed. I do not miss a moment to catch up on my podcasts and music. Great spacial awareness while you run/cycle so you can still take in what’s happening around you.

J’avais peur de la qualit d’coute mais cela vaut plus que de nombreux couteurs auriculaires lger, ne tombe pas lorsqu’on fait du sport et ne surtout ne bloque pas le conduit auriculaire ! Pourquoi je n’en ai pas achet avant en tout cas sachez que si vous tes indcis, je vous promets que vous ne pourrez pas le regrette

I love my Shokz Openruns. Sound quality is probably not going to delight serious audiophiles, but for cycling and walks it’s more than adequate. No fear of losing these, unlike my previous set of earbuds. These are secure around the ears and the neck band gives added security. I found the neckband to get caught in collars at times which could be annoying, but a slight adjustment would solve that. Also, the neck band is a pain if you want to doze off in the chair. It just gets in the way really. Another huge plus is the perfect connectivity. No break up or drops in playback at all. Well pleased with that. Overall, I give these 9/10, only losing 1 for the neckband. Needs a bit of tweaking from the design team I reckon. Wants to be adjustable.

No soy muy exigente en lo que a calidad respecta pero para mi gusto se oyen fenomenal y tambin a mi me escuchan bien. Como indico, los he usado 2o3 veces pero an no los he cargado. Durarn al menos lo que dicen, mas que suficiente.

Conquise ds la premire coute, et c’est mon premier casque ouvert.

Les + :
-un son d’une qualit remarquable pour un casque ouvert. On a l’impression qu’il y a des hauts parleurs qui diffusent le son l o on est. L’coute de podcasts ou musique est un vrai plaisir.
-Les boutons sont bien penses pour interagir avec le casque sans le retirer, la matire est trs agrable au toucher et la charge est extrmement rapide, comme promis (seule diffrence avec l’Aeropex, que ce casque remplace sur le march)
-entendre l’environnement extrieur, pratique et scuritaire dans un cadre perso (entendre son bb qui pleure, son chien qui aboie, les voitures quand vous vous promenez ou faites votre sport, les bruits de la nature en rando, suivre la cuisson quand vous cuisinez) mais aussi dans un cadre pro (suivre une runion en visio tout en pouvant interagir avec les personnes qui entrent dans votre bureau).
-Trs lger et confortable, il se fait oublier. Pas de sensation d’oppression d’un casque ou d’oreilles bouches avec des couteurs intra auriculaires.

Les – :
-comme soulign par beaucoup de revues, les basses ne sont pas incroyables, mais on choisit ce casque plus pour la conscience de son environnement que pour la perfection de la qualit audio. On peut aussi noter de lgres vibrations quand on augmente trop le son mais rien de gnant.
-les cheveux longs rendent l’installation un peu plus complique s’ils ne sont pas attachs. Personnellement, je le mets par dessus car la masse de cheveux appuie sur l’arceau et dstabilise le casque, mais ce n’est pas trs gnant sauf quand il y a du vent.
-si vous avez un piercing l’endroit o reposent les Shokz, a peut tre embtant

noter qu’il existe une version Mini avec un arceau plus court et qui semble plus adapt aux petites ttes des femmes, mais il ne semble commercialis qu’aux USA pour le moment, et en noir seulement. Moi je profite que l’arceau soit un peu grand pour y glisser mes cheveux en dessous quand ils ne sont pas attachs, a laisse plus d’espace aussi pour les porter autour de mon cou quand je ne les utilise pas. Mais l’arceau trop grand peut tre drangeant pour certaines activits comme le vlo de route, o le menton est relev et l’arceau frappe derrire le cou et dstabilise le casque.

Je regrette donc seulement que l’arceau ne soit pas rglable, si les ingnieurs de Shokz passent par l, il faudrait trouver un systme solide et lger qui permette de l’ajuster toutes les ttes en fonction de l’activit/la coiffure/l’ge !

Probably the best running headphones around
its not often I find a whole new technology like bond conducting headphones I didn’t know much about and its mature and works well. Open headphones is really good for a bunch of reasons and its easy enough to pause when something noisy passes by. A surprise benefit is listening to podcasts while eating lunch. Closed in earbuds are useless while eating.

The vibration some reviews mention is more like a tickle, and only happens with some low frequency sounds at higher volume. The internal wire that keeps it in place is a bit springy and I did find sometimes when I run it bounced it was just occasional. I sewed a button on the back of my cap, and let it rest there. Seems to keep it in the perfect spot.

I really like these. The fact that I can listen to music and podcasts and still hear what’s going on around me is something I like. The sound quality for music is no as good as in ear or cup ear headphones but is still acceptable to me. For listening to podcast I found them to be perfectly good. The battery lasts between 8 and 10 hours for me. The only issue I have is when I have the volume too high I find that the sound causes my skin to vibrate a little, but I don’t usually have the volume up that high. I mainly use these when out walking my dogs.

Worth every penny
I use these everyday on a commute by bike to work, the sound quality is amazing and as long as you set the volume correctly you can still here traffic around you, if the volume is too load the traffic is muted slightly but the headphones will also vibrate, after all they are speakers. If you are not bothered about hearing traffic or people talking you can wear ear plugs and then the sound really comes into its own, with rich tones of base and treble. They are comfortable to wear all day they sit well with glasses too. These are meant to be used whilst you are active, resting your head on a pillow in bed for example, pushes on the band which goes sound your neck as this is hard it forces them out of place near your ears, so I would use some other type of headphones for this purpose, although they still work perfectly if you alter their position and place the band on top of your head! Overall and whilst active these are worth every penny compared to cheaper alternatives! They are waterproof too and are not effected at all by heavy rain. Just make sure you dry them thoroughly before putting away or charging.

Petit bmol sur la connectivit bluetooth. On ne peut connecter qu’un seul appareil au mme temps sur le casque (tlphone ou pc par exemple) et si l’on est dj connect sur l’un, on ne peut pas forcer la changement de connexion bluetooth depuis le deuxime appareil. Il faut dsactiver manuellement la connexion d’un ct pour l’activer dans l’autre, donc pas pratique sur ce ct.

I have the old Trekz aftershokz titanium air and this new shokz open run.

Having ability to listen to music or a podcast while having awareness while riding on the road or on a run, is most important thing for me for self preservation and saftey.

I also have lost a bit of hearing (busted left ear) – so preserving whats left of my hearing is important.

The design is a lot better – the speakers seem be in the right position now, over the old version.
it is a definite step up in quality, and sound over the old version. The sounds have more bass and is about 10% or so louder.

Bluetooth connects to my samsung sg21 in seconds where it takes around 5 seconds to initialise/connect in the old.
I didnt catch this for a sale, but im still happy with this product.

Game changer!
Before buying these I couldn’t work out if I was going to like these, but after the first use, I LOVED THEM!
My runs include a small area of a busy road with no pedestrian footpath – these headphones allow me to still listen to my music and have awareness of traffic.

I love trail running and listening to nature sounds and these allow me to be able to do that, and listen to music which is lovely.

plus they are comfortable and do not move around.

When using in-earphones I would often feel claustrophobic but not anymore. I cannot recommend these enough.

Schönes Ding, nicht perfekt, aber funktionell und gut umgesetz
Immer wieder mal sind mir Reviews ber solche Kopfhrer begegnet, und ich fand die Technologie dahinter sehr interessant, andererseits hatte ich nie auch wirklich Bedarf dafr, weil ich Kopfhrer eher selten nutze und gerade beim Sport zumeist darauf verzichte, weil es eben die Wahrnehmung von Auengeruschen mindert. Und das ist fr mich schon ein wesentlicher Aspekt, nicht nur innerorts, sondern auch, wenn man auerhalb auf landwirtschaftlichen Wegen unterwegs ist, denn so ein Trecker ist oftmals schneller als man meint. Und wenn mir doch danach war, mit Musik zu laufen, habe ich zuletzt meine AirPods benutzt und war damit auch fr meine Zwecke gut ausgerstet.
Nun weist einer der AirPods einen Defekt auf. Gerade passend war es da, dass die Firma Aftershokz vor ein paar Tagen ihr zehnjhriges Jubilum verkndet und das zum Anlass genommen hat, ihren Namen zu ndern in Shokz” und zugleich ein neues Modell im Bereich der Knochenschall-Sport-Kopfhrer zu prsentieren. Dazu hat der Hersteller einen Code fr einen 10%igen Rabatt verffentlicht, so dass ich kurzentschlossen meine AirPods auf Garantie an den Hndler geschickt und hier die OpenRun bestellt habe. Der Rabatt gilt leider nur fr das Modell in schwarz, und die anderen Farben habe ich hier im Sortiment bei Amazon bisher auch noch nicht gefunden, aber irgendwas ist ja immer

Inzwischen wei ich, dass dieses neue Modell gar nicht so neu ist, sondern lediglich eine berarbeitete Version des schon lnger erhltlichen Aeropex, im Wesentlichen wohl nur ergnzt um eine Schnelladefunktion. Ansonsten gleichen sich die technischen Angaben.

Inzwischen hatte ich einige Tage Gelegenheit, diese Kopfhrer auszuprobieren. Die Kopplung erfolgt ganz einfach per Bluetooth, und das lief bei mir auch problemlos (Apple Watch, iPad – dazu spter noch ein paar Worte).
Das, was einen Kopfhrer ausmacht, ist wohl in erster Linie der Klang. Und da waren meine Erwartungen nicht besonders hoch, wie auch meine Ansprche in dem Bereich insgesamt nicht high-end sind. Bei der hier verwendeten Technologie gibt es zudem bestimmte Imitationen, die ein Sounderlebnis vergleichbar mit einem richtigen” Kopfhrer wohl unmglich machen. Trotzdem aber, und da bin ich durchaus positiv berrascht, ist der Klang der OpenRun alles andere als schlecht. Natrlich ist guter Sound immer auch etwas Subjektives, aber zumindest nach den ersten Eindrcken klingen die auch nicht schlechter als die AirPods 2. Gen. (wobei ich da jetzt leider keinen direkten Vergleich vornehmen kann, s.o.).

Der nchste Punkt, gerade wenn es um sportliche Aktivitt geht, ist der Sitz. Und auch da bin ich zufrieden. Es sind meine ersten Knochenschall-Kopfhrer, insofern fhlt es sich erst etwas komisch an, so etwas vor den Ohren sitzen zu haben, auch der Anblick mutet zunchst seltsam an, wirkt es doch ein wenig so, als wrde man ein Hrgert tragen. Aber davon abgesehen gibt es nichts zu meckern, nach ein paar Minuten habe ich die nicht mehr nennenswert gesprt und sie halten auch wirklich gut ihre Position, ohne dabei ein unangenehmes Druckgefhl zu erzeugen. Und, was eben auch der vorrangige Zweck dieser Kopfhrer ist, die Ohren sind frei, so dass man die Umgebungsgerusche praktisch uneingeschrnkt wahrnehmen kann. Natrlich ist das auch abhngig von der Lautstrke des Kopfhrers, aber immer besser als mit richtigen In Ears. Letzteres kann man vielleicht noch einschrnken, wenn man Kopfhrer wie die AirPods Pro zum Vergleich heranzieht, die einen Transparenzmodus untersttzen und dadurch eben genau das erreichen sollen, nmlich die Umgebung wahrzunehmen. Ob und wie gut es tatschlich funktioniert, kann ich nicht beurteilen, einfach, weil ich keine AirPods Pro habe.

Neben der Lautstrkeregelung (rechts) werden noch weitere Funktionen untersttzt, insbesondere durch einen Multifunktionsknopf (links), mit dem man verschiedene Aktionen auslsen kann, bspw. Play/Pause, Titel vor, Titel zurck, Gesprche annehmen Gesprche beenden (ja, Telefonie geht auch) und auch Aktivierung des Sprachassistenten.

Auch der Kopplungsmodus wird ber diese Knpfe aktiviert. Der Kopfhrer untersttzt Multipoint Pairing, kann also mit zwei Gerten gleichzeitig verbunden werden. Das ist nicht schlecht und fr viele Flle sicherlich auch vllig in Ordnung, wenn man aber weitgehend im Apple-Universum unterwegs ist, durchaus auch mit mehreren Gerten, ist man natrlich von den AirPods gerade in diesem Punkt recht verwhnt, denn einmal eingerichtet, wechseln diese nahtlos ber zu dem Gert, was man gerade verwendet. Sicher, das ist ein Luxusproblem, aber wie das so ist, wenn man sich mal an etwas gewhnt hat, mchte man es auch nicht mehr missen. Bei den OpenRun jedenfalls musste ich mich fr zwei Gerte entscheiden, wobei natrlich die manuelle Kopplung mit anderen Gerten trotzdem jederzeit mglich ist. Schlussendlich ist die Wahl bei mir auf die Apple Watch und das iPad gefallen, denn gerade beim Sport bin ich in aller Regel ohne Handy unterwegs und daheim ist das iPad das meist genutzte Gert. Ob ich damit mittel- und auch langfristig gut leben kann, muss sich erst noch zeigen. Aber wie gesagt, ein Luxusroblem 😉

Insgesamt jedenfalls bin ich nach den ersten Tagen ganz zufrieden mit den Kopfhrern, gerade auch, was den Klang angeht und den Tragekomfort. Ein Wermutstropfen ist natrlich in meinem Fall, dass das Zusammenspiel mit Apple-Gerten lngst nicht so gut funktioniert wie z.B. mit den AirPods. Das liegt natrlich hauptschlich an den Restriktionen von Apple und kann Shokz sicherlich nicht direkt angelastet werden. Trotzdem aber ist das der Grund, dass ich nur vier Sterne vergeben habe, denn natrlich erfolgt meine Bewertung auch unter meinen durchaus subjektiven Gesichtspunkten. Und die volle Punktzahl kann und mchte ich nur vergeben, wenn etwas fr mich wirklich in allen Belangen passt. Und das ist es so nun mal nicht, auch wenn ich natrlich wei, dass der Hersteller in diesem Fall nur bedingt oder auch gar keinen Einfluss darauf nehmen kann. Aber vielleicht kommt es mal zu einer Kooperation zwischen Shokz und Apple, dann knnte dieses Problem irgendwann der Vergangenheit angehren. 😉

Premier casque conduction osseuse pour moi, j’ai hsit longtemps avant de le commander car, comme avec tout ce que l’on ne connat pas, j’avais des craintes. Et bien franchement je suis merveill, je ne suis pas sportif pour un sou donc l’utilisation est plutt dans un fauteuil avec un livre voir en promenade avec le chien mais waouw quel plaisir ! Le rendu musical est parfait, il est tellement lger et discret qu’on oublie trs vite qu’on le porte, on profite de sa musique tout en restant “connect” aux autres et aux alas de la vie, c’est gnial…

Il faudra dsormais l’appeler Shokz : Plus court, plus fort, plus facile partager alors n’hsitez pas, vous m’en direz des nouvelles…
