I made a mistake and wrote a bad review. Did not realize that on Amazon goods came from different vendors and it wasn’t this one that made the mistake.

How much do I love this machine? Looks good, easy to use and makes great coffee. What more could you ask? Okay so it wasn’t the cheapest but I totally forgive it for that, it makes up for it in looks alone. In fact it looks so good I had to buy the matching grinder!

Read the reviews before buying this for husband’s birthday and glad I splashed out on this one. Three months in and he still loves it – uses 2-3 times a day and had to descale it once, though we live in a very hard water area. Would recommend this.

Having been mostly disappointed by coffee machines in the past, the Smeg ECF01 produced a brilliant coffee with my first attempt and has been consistent ever since. Whilst the menu facility could be improved, as a coffee nerd, all I want is a machine that’s easy to use and produces a great flavoursome coffee. I am very satisfied and would definitely recommendf. Also looks great.

Like this coffee machine very much as its easy to use , previously had another type of machine which used plastic pods which were not recyclable so having the Smeg coffee maker saves using plastic and gives a lovely cup of coffee every time, and the coffee grouts are good for my garde

I have the SMEG kettle and toaster. The SMEG range is quality, and it looks great. Their products are definitely made to a high standard

Looks very stylish. Makes amazing coffee. Fiddly to start and don’t overfill the container as it won’t click. Really pleased though.

    Looks trendy.
Very quick warm up and ready for use. However, the filter holder doesn’t get warm so coffee passes through cold metal.
Filter holder is small so good for making expresso but not so good for larger americanos.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’m really happy with this! I’m the only person in my household that drinks coffee so it’s great for one cup. I use the double espresso setting and add steamed milk to make a latte. I find that you can’t really compress the coffee grounds or it doesn’t work, you have to very lightly press them into the holder. It looks really nice in my kitchen without taking up much room. I wipe it down daily but occasionally put the removable parts through the dishwasher.

The set up is fiddly and took a few goes to work out the correct sequences for water volume, heat and so on. Simple dials to select each setting would be better but then the price might be higher, which I think for the quality of the coffee it makes is actually good value. Cup size is limited until you realise you can remove the drip dray and there’s a lower ‘stand’ for cups underneath which allows bigger cups to be used. I put sticky pads under it to stop it moving around so much on the work surface when you engage / disengage the coffee holder as the machine is too light. Overall I’m very pleased.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is the best coffee machine yet. I’ve had two other machines from the big Italian companies. This beats them by a mile. Great espresso and superb steamer / frother. Looks great as well. Simple to use.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFirst of all let me say that as with all Smeg items this is a great looking piece of kit – I went for the cream version.

Filling the water tank is straightforward – take the top off and fill it up. Before doing that press the on button and by the time you’ve got the water tank back in you’ll be ready to go.

The machine has two different sized filter holders for depending on how many cups you are making and the strength you desire. Pop the ground coffee in the filter holder using the supplied spoon / tamp and away you go ! I am a fan of Cafe Saula which works well in this machine.

You can pre select the amount of water that is dispensed and 3 different heats. There are two buttons which can be Pre-set.

The milk frother is very good and does the job perfectly. This part also dispenses hot water if required.

The cup warmer on the top is relatively useless but I’m not sure why anybody would be using that anyway!

In terms of maintenance, it needs to be de-scaled approximately once every 6-8 weeks which is based on around 25 cups per week so not too labour intensive.

All in all I can’t recommend this machine highly enough.

Great machine, great coffee. Contrary to the previous review, easy to use. Just line up the arrows and turn!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWorks perfectly well, but costs far more than others which work just as well. The water reservoir is crap to remove every time you want to fill it – you have to take the lid off (awkward with one hand) then pull hard on the plastic tank, and the reverse to put it all back. The coffee container is hard to empty, even by banging it hard (when the filter is likely to drop into the bin); but that’s apparently par for the course – only the old Rowenta Silver Line had a wonderful button which ejected the puck. Otherwise it makes good coffee, heats up in decent time, turns itself off when not in use, and you can dose the amount of water going through the coffee; all things I require in a coffee machine. I don’t use the brother or hot water appliance so can’t judge it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought this really only to match the kettle and toaster I had already bought. While, this is an expensive unit it was far cheaper here than any where else I saw it. So far, I have no complaints, it makes a great cup of coffee and looks beautiful in the kitchen. I just wish the steamer could be used a little longer with out overheating but i was aware of this before i bought it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHaving thoroughly researched Bean to Cup coffee machines. I realised the best option was to buy both the coffee machine and grinder separately. Most Bean to the cup machines require too much maintenance and have too many design faults .The Smeg coffee machine is simple and easy to use ,works just like a commercial coffee machine and the frother creates a thick creamy foam. The grinder purchased was a Bodum Burr grinder, which crushes the beans. Have only been using it for a week, but so far so good.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersExcellent machine that makes excellent coffee with little fuss. The only down-side is the ineffectual cup warmer on the top, but I cannot let such a triviality affect the rating when the machine works so well. Really good water capacity too.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI bought this as my Kitchenaid Artisan had just about had it. The product is not so over engineered as the KA, (it`s half the price), but still very well built and easy to use, I needed to try the different temperature settings and use medium currently, it makes great coffee, looks good, what more can I say!!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersFabulous. Makes wonderful coffee, lovely crema on your Americana and Espresso. I don’t like milky coffee, so rarely use the steamer, but the black coffee beats Costa and Starbucks every time.

Excellent coffee machine. Makes a good cup (or two) of coffee without any dramas and the construction and finish is beautiful. I have the red version, very smart!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI bought this to replace a Nespresso CitiZ and separate frother that I had been using for the past 3 or 4 years and I am impressed to say the least. Using fresh ground coffee instead of pods makes all the difference to the flavour (although this machine does provide a coffee pod filter if you want that option). This makes better cappuccinos than you will buy in any coffee shop. The integrated frothing nozzle does a brilliant job of making hot, frothy milk as well as acting as a hot water dispenser if you want to turn an espresso into an Americano. The Smeg even allows you to set the temperature of the coffee, which for me is the hotter the better and it has a top warming plate- I like to leave the machine on for a good 15-20 mins to get the cups warm first. Another advantage is that you can make 2 coffees at the same time. So far, the Smeg is worth every penny I paid for it.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersAbsolutely love this little coffee machine! It’s so pretty and easy to use. Only con so far: the coffee ground used can’t be too fine or the machine fails to press water through it. With coarser coffee grounds no problems.

I like the 2 tier drip tray so a large cup will fit below the spout.
I bought from another retailer on special offer.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersEarly days, but this seems like and excellent coffee maker.
    Well made and looks good.
    Good on Smeg!

Excellent pressure for the espresso function and the milk frother makes a good, fine froth that doesn’t just dissolve away.
There are options for most of the settings, such as temperature and quantity of water pumped through the coffee.

No quite sure about the injunction to use the frother from no more than 60 seconds to avoid overheating, but it seems to do the job well inside this time.

I bought this machine to replace a large and expensive Kitchen Aid machine that was too big for my new place.
First reactions are that at half the price, and half the space, it’s better value all round.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDelivered very quick, and arrived looking well made, elegant and stylish. I cannot fault anything in terms of its operation, it makes great coffee, never had an espresso machine before, now I know what I’ve missed. My only issue is that some espresso cups don’t quite fit under the spouts, although you can remove the first drip tray and use the mug tray. I’m happy for now.
