Vg value, solid utility knife with vn feel to it 5*
5* very impressed with the feel of this utility knife, I purchased the FatMax Carbide blades separately to put in this knife, knife came supplied with 3 standard FatMax blades, but I prefer the Carbide FatMax blades myself.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersQuality You'd Expect From Stanley
Great knife! Some people in the reviews seem to think it is fiddly getting the blades in, WELL IT ISN’T! The red button is just for getting the blade out, to put a new blade in leave this button alone completely! Just push the blade in until it stops, then pull the blade upwards gently from the top and push home, the blade just ‘clicks’ into its locked position ready to go, could not be simpler! Just press the red button and start to pull the blade out and release the button and continue to pull the rest of the blade out. Really is as simple as that and a great design!

    All you need
Nice cutter, at first I thought it was faulty as the blade was not staying in but then I managed to fix it properly, 4 stars as it could be a bit more intuitive as you need to keep the small blade button in a certain position and can be a bit tricky

    Compact and Sturdy
Good solid construction. Folds nice into a small compact shape to carry. Heavy weight with full metal case. Did take a few minutes getting blade to fully lock in. Solid unit when extended

had high hopes but isn't quite righ
everything about this is great but it just doesn’t open smoothly – perhaps it’s just this particular knife rather than a design problem.
apart from that it’s really good and feels sturdy

    Excellent Quality
Exactly what I expected and more from a Stanley blade. Definitely tell the difference if you buy cheap. Due to disability I can’t always open and close things due to lack of strength and grip. This was easy enough to use but not flimsy in any way.
Very sturdy and excellent quality throughout.
Did exactly what I needed it for. Much cheaper than buying a saw for a tiny job that this did perfectly.
Love the way it folds away for safely and the spare blades store inside the handle so not easy to loose.

Extremely happy with the purchase and price.

    Sturdy utility knife
Good sturdy knife from Stanley. The fat max stuff is usually pretty robust.

The only down side is you can only store a few spare blades in the handle, and it’s a bit of a faff to open the knife to change the blades.

That being said it is a good knife, the fact it folds is great so it takes less space in your tool bag. The locking mechanism seems pretty strong, unlike other folding knifes which just fold closed if applying a bit of pressure.

Watch out for me on recycling days
I had a very cheap cutter which came part of a tool set. It was mainly used for household chores like cutting up cardboard for recycling and opening up packages. That died basically and decided why not chose a proper ‘tool’ for the job and went with this Stanley knife. It’s a very serious kit and excels at its job for household chores.

I read about people complaining about the packaging but I think it’s not that bad. Had no issues.

    Great little knife
Bought this as I had a similar button function B&Q’s own brand which was awful. Glad I went back to Stanley.

This is really handy it folds. It’s durable and well made. Shouldn’t have deviated from the brand in the 1st place!

    Very Handy Toold
I like this tool as it’s ideal for the job and compact for safe storage. Has a compartment for blade storage too. Blades are ok, sharp as expected, but do blunt after a bit, but overall good piece of kit. Used it to remove silicone in the bathroom, did well. Happy with my purchase

    Well made knife
Always used to use Stanley due to sharp blades, trouble was even the sliding retractable ones, would sometimes fail and let the tip of the blade out, resulting in damage to pocket, if you were unlucky a nasty cut as well!. This solves the problem nicely and feels well made and secure. Easy in the hand, not as fat feeling as the old ones. The thing that loses a star for me, the blade!!. It’s a Stanley blade that isn’t frighteningly sharp! it’s virtually blunt after only 15-20 foot of corrugated box cutting. The knife, brill, the blades it came with…pants.

A Trusty Tool for Every Task!
I recently purchased the STANLEY 0-10-825 FATMAX Retractable Folding Knife, and it’s a game-changer! The folding lockback design is incredibly convenient, slipping easily into my pocket when not in use. The knife’s ergonomic and rugged design makes it a perfect companion for heavy-duty tasks, ensuring a comfortable grip even during extended use. Safety is a top priority, and the retractable blade adds an extra layer of protection when the knife is not in action. What really impressed me is the instant blade change feature — no need for any tools! It saves time and hassle. Plus, the internal blade storage keeps spare blades handy, making it ultra-convenient. This knife has become my go-to tool for various tasks, and I can’t recommend it enough!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersReasonable knife
I bought this and thought how difficult can it be to unpack a knife from the cardboard.packing as I have had Stanley knives in the past as some reviews said it was difficult. Half an hour later and the knife in bits I eventually succeeded. But not a bad knife and easy to use though not sure it will last as long as my past Stanley knives.
But come on Stanley sort out the packaging or provide some detail as how to get it off the knife as the info is very poor.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersUNSUITABLE FOR HEAVY DAILY USE
My employer provides spare parts for buses and trucks of all makes. It receives its supplies in varying grades and sizes of cardboard box from all over the word which re-cycle by cuttig them up and shredding through a heavy-duty shredding machine to provide us with packing material for our dispatch department. Needless to say, this knife receives a lot of use and gets through a lot of blades.

The feeding and locking mechanism securing the blades works well and stands up to heavy use. However, the weakest link is the securing bolt which runs through the blade carrier and body into which it folds. The bolt will gradually unwind and then dislodge completely rendering the tool useless.

While this may be a perfectly acceptable tool for light or occasional craft use, the folding knife appears unable to withstand heavy daily use. For that, a more rigid one-piece knife is probably more preferable.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersUnpack carefully!
A lot of people have had issues with the packaging. However if you check the back, there is a small arrow pointing to the direction to tear / cut. It is downwards, and if you do this it comes out perfectly.

The item itself seems very robust, time will tell.. changing a blade is easy if you think about it. Push the blade control button out to the maximum and insert a blade while depressing the small red button. After releasing the button you need to wiggle the blade to make sure that it is correctly fitted. Do the reverse to change the blade.
Only 4 stars because there is nearly always room for improvement! I am not yet convinced by the plastic (?) parts. Hopefully they are more durable than they appear. It opens and closes easily contrary to some reviews.

Best utility knife I ever bought, if only it was easier to get out of the STANLEY packaging!
Best utility knife I ever bought, if only it was easier to get out of the STANLEY packaging!
Which was so difficult it was almost scissor-proof and bomb-proof.

Even the videos on Youtube didn’t help me get into the packaging, which seems basic but STANLEY has a method of locking the plastic packaging inside the knife, and even pulling it from every angle does not get the knife free.

If bought as a Christmas present it would be good fun to watch the person receiving it trying to get the knife free lol…

Now I have it free and have used it, this knife has firmly become my favourite utility knife to use.
I have used it to cut leather, foam, and carpets with no problem!

Folds to a small pocket size and opens into a nice useable knife
Some of the poor reviews almost made me not buy this knife but the packaging posed no problem at all. The picture on the card has you cutting the cardboard a short distance away from the body of the knife and you then just pull the cardboard out. Easy. Took a couple of minutes. More tricky was slicing through the plastic shrink wrap holding the spare blades in the handle but a little bit of care with a sharp knife and they are released.
The clip that keeps the knife in its folded position is not great but the friction holds it fine. The handle comfort is compromised a bit by the fact that the space for knife to fold into is not that comfy but I forgive it this as it folds into such a neat pocket sized item

    Nice foldable knife
Removal of the plastic card from the knife was a nightmare. In retrospect I should have used a small torx and dismantled the whole thing straight away but I tried pulling the card out with pliers which left a piece of plastic inside the knife which meant that it was impossible to load a blade. Fortunately my daughter in law spotted the card by shining a torch into the sliding mechanism and after half an hour with a needle, trying to prise it out, I finally grabbed a torx and took the knife to pieces. Once the card was removed, the knife worked beautifully.

There's a reason people call them Stanley knives
Great Stanley knife/box cutter/utility knife, it feels sturdy and great in the hand and has a nice weight to it.
The internal blade storage is convenient and hidden safely away, the blade release button is also useful for a quick change.

My only issue with this product is that it was a little inconvenient for me to install a blade at first, there were no instructions on the packaging and it took a little bit of time to figure out, even now knowing how to put it in, it can take me a few seconds to get it in properly.

    Overall great product.

Struggling to get the smallest piece of packaging out of the blade slot as well as on the sliding retractor mechanism. Never had so much bother getting an item out of packaging like this one. Other than that when I can finally use it, should prove handy at work

Neat little knife but spare blade holder only takes 3 blades and is a bit flimsy.
Once I figured how to get it out the blister pack I found this to be a Sturdy enough tool but the blade replacement button can be a pest if dust/dirt has entered the blade space. The Spare Blade holder is a bit flimsy and only holds 3 blades. Overall a good Tool with a good belt clip, if required.

Great knife for the money, packaging is fine, what are you all on about?
Great sturdy and sharp knife with extra blade storage in the handle, easy to swap out. What I’m seeing a lot of is packaging complaints, why? It took me all of 30 seconds to remove. Tear along the perforation where the plastic enters the slider part of the knife and the plastic slides right out! There are even instructions on the back…

I bought this knife to replace an ageing Stanley knife and I’ve got to say I’m glad I did, easy to use and feels good in the hand.

I can’t understand the reviews about people not being able to work out how to fold or change blade – if this is a problem then I suggest you shouldn’t be using sharp implements!!

    Good but not grea
It’s a Stanley knife, but a bit of a pain to get started. Like another reviewer, I had to take it to pieces in order to remove all of the laminated plastic packaging and get a blade in. It remains to be seen how easy the first blade change will be but getting the first in was just a nuisance – I couldn’t get it fully in and locking. But, as expected, it is sharp like it should be; plus folding mechanism works well and makes it neat & tidy to store.
Good but why so difficult to get started Stanley?

Excellent product, comfortable to use and gives secure grip. Only issue is the product packaging. You have to cut it off as it is some type of flexible printed plastic, which is thought the whole knife and blade area.
