Small but sharp
It is too small, I’ve lost it :)))) But before I lost that knife – it was a great tool !!!
:((((
Tried and tested, great investment.
Great ergonomics, fits nicely in pocket and spare blades in handle is perfect, give it a wee spray of wd 40 and the slider is perfect.
Great knife.
Lost my last one. Like this one as it folds in half.
Awesome knife
The only reason I give the easy to use a 3 star is because it locks closed half way out when you unfold it, you have to press to unlock and open it and when you are whacking up plaster board it can be a pain, although I keep it unfolded in my tool belt I still think that’s a silly thing to have on it. I have a lot of utility knives and this is by far one of the best, better than the OX knife that’s more money!
Best Stanley knife eve
Bought this for my nephew as he so will be buying a new home & will be very useful to him. Brilliant knife, good shape to hold when cutting & folds up so you can put in your pocket… Very useful. I’m even going to purchase one for myself & other members of my family.
Small
I like the small size. shame it only holds a couple of spare blades.
Quality
Best knife I’ve ever owned. Lost the last one replaced it with the same after trying a few other types that weren’t up to scratch
Mobility
I like how ergonomic it is and it cuts better than my old one
Another great knife by Stanley.
I love this knife. Its easy and compact. Looks good and comes with good sturdy blades. A must have.
Its fits in my pocket or attaches to my belt securly with easy.
Good blade and assembly - nightmare to remove packaging!
Great blade once you extract it from the packaging. Whatever possessed Stanley to adopt the plasticised packaging material and thread this THROUGH the blade assembly is completely beyond me – I needed tools & a bit of savvy to get the knife away from the packaging – a bit of a nightmare and not for the faint hearted.
Still, once extracted – a great, sturdy, safe and very useable knife.
Good quality and price!
This is a great product but it should come with clearer instructions. Having said that I read the other reviews so after a little trial and error managed to work it out! Definitely worth pursuing and purchasing!
Good product let down by stupid packaging and lack of instructions.
As others have said, getting this thing out of the ‘packaging’ is the worst experience ever!!!
I used scissors, tweezers and my teeth to get everything out!! All that because there are no instructions!! I nearly sent it back for a refund due to fact that a small piece of the packaging got stuck inside the knife. Whoever designed the packaging should be slapped.
Apart from that, it’s an ok product for the price and should last a long time.
Great desig
Sturdy and easy to use. Looks and feels quality. I’m very happy with this.
Buy it you won't be disappointed
This is a good solid knife real good weight which helps when using it and it dosnt break if it gets dtopped
Difficult at first, but very sturdy knife
I found putting my first blade in very difficult as the so called ‘instructions ‘ on the pack were most unhelpful, consisting of 3 small photos. It took a lot of swearing, some Internet searching and a set of mole grips to finally get the blade in place properly. I was also pretty annoyed when the knife was just pushed through my letterbox by the UPS driver, despite it saying that it would need a signature. In these days of knife crime I would expect a big carrier like UPS to make certain that blades items were safely distributed. I didn’t sign for the parcel, but had a message on my phone to say it had been signed for.
Perfect folding knife desig
There’s normally a downside to folding knives the grip doesn’t feel right or mechanism isn’t great.
But this is a perfectly made knife!
Folds simply, quick release blade change, integral blade storage, belt clip, bright colour, compact when folded.
There’s no negative points, great knife!
Great knife
Great little knife but had to dismantle it to get it of the packaging
Sturdy and compac
Can’t fault this knife really. It folds up with a clip so can put in your work trousers easily, has a small storage compartment for extra blades (you can only get about 3 in there), and you can collapse it with one hand, and easy no tool blade change.
Oh, and it’s packaged quite well as other reviewers have said, but if you are a competent grown up it only takes a minute to remove . . .
Great knife, comes with 3 blades, feels good in the hand and flips back neatly to fit in your pocket. No chance of you snipping fingers when closing it up, all-around solid knife that should last a long time. Good workmanship. Strangely you have to use a knife (or scissors) to get it out of the packaging. Best way to do this is to snip the top off and hold onto the picture of where the blade is and pull down. Very happy with the purchase.
Feels robust, quick and easy to change the blade, stores 3 blades in the handle. It’s the quality I would expect from Stanley.
Getting it out of the packaging requires a bit of brute force, nice that it’s secure, not so nice that I’m worried about damaging it as I remove it, so can understand negative comments about packaging.
Took me a few minutes to figure out what does what, Stanley, if you’re going to attach it to a big piece of card, then please use that card to provide useful information.
Tradesman Review
Flip Stanley Knife. Comes with storage clip under black and red grip for two spare blades. Retractable and red button to push in to release old and new stanley blades into knife. Also comes with belt clip. Good quality, highly recommended. Second purchase as a tradesman.
No place for a new manicure.
Get someone else to rip up old carpet.
This did cut through it like butter though…
Top top tool
This Stanley knife has made me the talk of the railway yard, it looks good due to its safety and now I can cut the rubber up for the skirts and belts. Absolutely fine
An excellent knife, ideal for travelling tradesman!
Usual expected Stanley quality, no problems so far and mine is used in a work environment daily! Stores blades in the handle, folds to a nice compact shape, ideal for travelling tradesman!
Four Stars
my only gripe is when stripping swa it can hurt your palm after a few hours
Solid knife, good quality.
Using it on a daily basis at work and for some house works from time to time. The knife is comfortable to use and feels solid. The blades are sharp and hold well in the knife. Once folded the knife is small and easy to keep in the pocket or a small compartment in the tool box. It’s not the cheapest knife out there but it’s worth the money.

Beautiful bit of ki
Ok so the packaging is a bugger to get off but the hardware is great. The blade is really easy and quick to change, it’s a great great bit of kit. I don’t need to but want to get another….
I have had this knife now for just short of a year and I have to say the design of this knife is brilliant. Being able to fold the knife to fit in pocket is excellent. It also has a belt-clip so you could attach it to your belt or to the pocket. Replacement blades are kept safely in the handle, which is easily opened up without the use of any tools. When open the knife locks in the open position so it won’t accidently close up on you during use. It has a grove near where the blade comes out that can be used to cut string without having to push the blade out, just simply feed the string into the groove and pull and it’s cut. It has a nice comfortable grip, and replacing a blade is probably the easiest thing ever. Just hold the little red button in on the side near where the blade comes out and pull the old blade out and slip the new one in, then release the red button and the new blade is locked in. No tools are required, so no need to hunt for a screwdriver to open it up in order to change the blade. The only downside to this knife is that the instructions could have been clearer, and you have to figure most of it out for yourself, but that is fairly easy and once you do you’ll think to yourself it is so obvious that instructions aren’t necessary.
... how to get the blade in but it's a great buy, strong and durable
Took us awhile to figure out how to get the blade in but it’s a great buy, strong and durable!
Great tool with infuriating packaging
I have two of these knives and they are very good quality tools. The only issue with them is how they are packaged. There is a plastic faux blade that runs through the inside of the tool that is a nightmare to remove. It seems no matter how I’ve tried to seperate the knife and the packaging, a piece of flimsy plastic gets stuck inside the internal mechanism that is a real P.I.T.A. to get out.
Good when you eventually get it working
They are right about no instructions! It does take a bit of time to get the plastic out from inside the knife and then a bit more time to get the blade securely fitted in, and then a bit more time again to understand how to close the thing up. After a lot of “set up time”, it does what it is supposed to do, and having the knife close up completely is much more secure.
Great quality
Great knife and quite safe. I don’t know why so many are having issues with putting a blade in or opening it. I use this in work every day, hasn’t let me down.
Great knife, horribly packed!
A very nice cutting knife once you figure out how to use it. Just to echo what other have said, the packet was a ball ache to remove had to use pliers at both ends to remove it. The little red button at the handle end is where the blades are, i thought mine came without any at first nearly sent it back!!
Once mastered though it does the job perfectly and when folded fits perfectly in tool belt. Spot o
One of my best knives.
I have had several Stanley knives down the years, and this folding model is one of my favourites. The bright yellow finish that Stanley use on the Fatmax range is ideal for my absent-mindedness, as the products are usually easy to locate against a garden/patio/workshop/floorboard background. The handle section folds open to reveal a space for spare blades and for temporarily keeping your used or broken blade safe until you are ready to carefully dispose of it. The folding design is ideal for carrying in a pocket, and it has a clip for putting on a belt. For more delicate cutting, the little rubber pad on top just behind the blade makes it easy to maintain good control with your thumb pressed to it. Looking at the picture, you might not think that you can get a good, comfortable grip on this knife, but I find it is exactly right for my slightly large hand.
Excellent Stanley Knife
Excellent Stanley Knife and is very sturdy and will obviously last a long time. Cannot recommend highly enough in my opinion.
Proper tool with insane packaging
Cuts properly, does it’s job.
Removing the packaging is just HECTIC, that’s why I give 4/5.
... with blades and the quick change leaver is a good idea, small and compac
Comes with blades and the quick change leaver is a good idea, small and compact. I am very happy with this purchase.
Overall a good product. However i do think the packaging is ridiculously hard to remove and even after, a small bit of the packaging was left inside, jamming the blade (luckily i got it out but others might not be so lucky). Also i think there could be an added safety feature so that the knife cannot fold back down with the blade pushed froward, as although there is a liner lock, it was handed back to me, folded, but with the blade still out.
Four Stars
Complicated but I will try to get to use it.
Typical Stanley
Robust full metal construction, simple one handed opperation with a bit of practice and so handy to be able to put it in and out of your pocket while working up ladders etc.
Love this knife!
I’ve bought three of these awesome knives! 1 in my carpentry box, 1 in my decorating box and 1 in my van. The belt clip is fantastic, I’ve had lots of different knives before, even top brands like Leatherman (Wave) & Milwaukee (fastback) but this knife is my go to! I use it every single day at work, so much so I can pull it off my belt flip it open in one hand, not one has broken! Great for concealing in public areas too my favourite crime knife. Would recommend to any tradie or criminal.
very knife
This makes for a very safe knife, whilst the bright colour makes it easy to find in the shed or toolbox. Recommended
Great I like the fact it folds
Great I like the fact it folds… It was not apparent how to get the blades in.. Or How to fold i
Quality produc
I’ve owned my knife now for about 1 year and use it on a daily basis.
As a carpenter my knife has seen a lot of use but is still going strong, blade change is quick and easy and it has blade storage in the handle for 3 blades. The knife folds up easy and is barely noticeable when it’s in my pocket. For the price it is a top quality product.
Good quality knife with nice heft to the grip
Good quality knife with nice heft to the grip. Might take a couple of minutes to get your head around how to open/ close and change blades but after that it’s plain sailing.
Great knife, but as others have pointed out – stupid packaging and next to no instructions for inserting the blade etc.
Thanks to other reviewers here for pointing out how to insert the blades & fold the knife, as it really isn’t that obvious, hence only 4 stars.
Overall, a good sturdy knife & good value for money. Very pleased.
Quality product.
Top quality blade. At first I struggled to remove the protective cover and somehow got it removed using a tweeser. The protective cover could have been better designed.
The product itself is solid and got some nice storage in the handle to store enough spare blades.
Excellent knife, though I was foxed by the initial assembly (silly mistake)
The supplied instructions are really not very clear as to how to fit your first blade – I ended up disassembling the whole knife in order to work out that the red button allows blade insertion and release because the tiny abstract pictures on the packaging really don’t make it immediately obvious.
Now that i’ve got that sorted though, it’s an excellent knife.
Four Stars
arrived promptly and folds neatly and is a good cutte
Great knife
Great little Stanley knife. Even get to feel like a gangster with the flip functionality……I guess it’s safer for that feature though, curse you reality!

Great nife but have small problem with change blade. Shoud be better instructions. But product really great.
Great.
Dontvknow why so many people have problems. Great knife very sharp. I cut carpet alot as i work in a carpet shop. Been great so far. Mechanism is tighter than the dewalt counterpa
it folds away easily and has a good storage space for the extra blades
A very useful addition to the kit; it folds away easily and has a good storage space for the extra blades. The only negative isn’t the product it is the delivery. It took almost a month. Worth getting, but check on the delivery times first – might be worth getting from B&Q.
... the how to puta new blade otherwise it's a great produc
Struggled with the how to puta new blade otherwise it’s a great produc
Good bit of kit!
Just what I needed as an addition to my gardening tool kit. It is perfect for opening compost bags and cutting membrane, etc.
Very handy utility knife
Very solidly built and the folding feature and lock make it very safe to carry and use. Once you work out how the blade change button works it is a breeze to swap blades.
Great Stanley
Very solid feel about this knife.
My only gripe is that it can only store 3 blades, other than that,it’s a good solid knife, with a quick blade change function.
The Best Stanley
I bought the to replace the same one I have had for over a year, I havent had to maintain it, it can hold 3 blades in the back and you can change it in seconds, this really is the best stanely I have used, which is why I have ordered it agai
Nice modern and compact never go to work without i
Nice modern and compact never go to work without it, very good product, all negative reviews are people who dont know what they are doing, packaging is a bit naff to get out bit easily doable, if i lost this tomorrow i would order a new one asap!
Good product, poor packaging from Stanley
Good utility knife, nice that it folds but as everyone states the packaging is a pain to remove – I had to disassemble the knife to get it off. Other than this, I would recommend to anyone who wants a compact quick change knife.
Neat design - Good from a safety point of view as it folds ...
Neat design – Good from a safety point of view as it folds up, so the blade can’t come loose whilst in a pocket/toolbox. Also, changing blades is a lot easier than on old stanley knives – simply press the red button and it can be slid out and replaced.
F'n amazing !
This tool should be renamed to “THE BEAST”, awesome tool, bomb proof, plus brings a few extra blades, AWESOMENESS ! Im super happy, wont be buying another one, this one will last for years, unless i want to buy for someone or if i lose mine. If you need a cutting tool for work this is the one. Everyone talking about how hard it is to remove that piece of paper or cardboard … man just rip it apart like i did, takes less than 2 seconds !
Fab Fatmax!
Once I’d got it out of the packaging and deployed my Phd in Engineering to ascertain how it works – it was great!
Nice touch – the little ‘nick’ underneath, near the blade which can be used with the blade retracted to cut string, cables etc.
Folds up really small.
Feels substantial.
Quality knife
Nice and compact. Decent little blade storage inside the handle. And with how it folds into its self there is a huge reduced risk of accidents in your pocke
Brilliant.
By far the most useful thing I have in my pockets while working, I’d rather lose my car keys than this, sturdy as a fixed one but safe enough to put in your pocket without worrying.
When you get it don’t just tear in to it though as there is cardboard inside it that if you don’t remove properly will be stuck in there forever.
Not Perfect But Worth Buying
After reading some reviews, I decided I liked the balance of features and bought this. I am very happy with this purchase. I can understand why some people have been annoyed by the packaging, but it wasn’t such a tough nut to crack and shouldn’t be marked down for that (if you get stumped by the packaging maybe it would be best to leave the DIY to someone else? 😉
What I did mark it down for was the belt clip on the side of the handle which has a sharpish end and is not comfortable to hold for any length of time, so I just removed it all together (you’ll need a star head screwdriver set). Apart from that the design and build is decent for the price here and should last a good few years.
As expected from stanley
Well made, red button needs to be pressed firmly to operate quick release.
Worth the extra price - excellent knife
Thought it was a bit expensive compared to standard knives, but it is so superior I was naive before. It is nice to hold with a rubbery grip. It folds easily and robustly. It is very well made and stores spar eblades within. A superior tool to last longer than cheap tat.
Really good blade, Shockingly poor instructions though
Really good blade, Shockingly poor instructions though, Took me a while to figure out how to get the blade in.
Stan Stan did is Agai
I wasn’t sure after reading some of the reviews. But these are the best stanleys I’ve owned. The fold mechanism is great and has an area. Inside to store blades.
Some review mentioned it’s hard to remove the blade. The key is to expose the entire blade and then hit the red button. Even one notch in and it’s not easy at all.
Solid quality piece. Thanks again Stanley.
Very Good Indeed
Excellent. Is now my ‘go to’ knife. The fact that the blade retracts as well as folds away makes this really convenient to use, as does the ability to carry spare blades in the handle. Very good purchase
Full functionality yet compac
I get the use of a standard Stanley knife that locks in place yet folds away neatly with a belt clip!
Also like the built in string cutting groove. Very handy!
Great knife that folds neatly away for safety
Great knife that folds neatly away for safety. Fitted with Fatmax blades and it has proven to be a very robust general purpose knife which can take some abuse and come back fighting fit.
Quality tool
I’m very pleased with this purchase. No problems whatsoever and it does the job. You just have to figure out that to fold and unfold the knife you have to depress a metal spring tucked inside the recess slot where the knife fits when folded.
Brilliant little gadge
Wanted a stanley knife that was a little bit different , and this is just what i was looking for.
No fiddly screws to adjust or undo , a nice little touch is that you can half its size by folding it into a rubber sheath.
Buy it you won’t be disappointed.
Very good, does the job!
Good, solid, strong, does the job and folds up to save some space.
The packaging was a bit annoying to remove as it goes through the knife and you can’t really open it.
Solid and safe to use - don't buy one of the cheap imitations which will only disappoint you
I’ve tried cheap “Stanley” knives before (i.e. not real Stanley, but Draper or whoever) like I suppose you have. And they’ve always been rubbish.
This one is a bit dearer, but a solid high-class tool that’s safe and easy to use and store and one I’ve been very glad I bought.
Once you get used to the odd folding method, it’s easy to use and feels secure in the hand, unlike the cheapo ones where you’re forever expecting them to take your finger off.
Replacement blades are cheap enough and double-ended. Don’t make the mistake of buying a decent knife, then trying to economise on blades – get the proper ones.
You can store a few blades inside the handle, and changing blades is a ten second job and much safer than with in an inferior knife. It feels solid and under control when you cut with it, the blade retracts completely before folding, so you can safely leave it lying about without fear of anybody getting cut accidentally.
This is a brilliant piece of ki
This is a brilliant piece of kit, I cannot for the life of me understand all the negatives, there are obviously a lot of people who shouldn’t play with sharp implements. For those who’ve mastered painting by numbers this is a must have tool
Cool stuff
very good stuff – light and easy to use. Only complaint would be the hook bit on the side, with the weight of the folded knife it usually ends up upside down and falls off. Not really a problem for me though.
great item, buy it!
excellent knife and great for safety if kids accidently get hold of it as it all folds in. at first i couldnt work out how to fold it but eventually saw you have to push the silver thing in while you are folding it together. i love that you can store blades in it. i only use it for light usage but so far its never failed!
Compact and good quality.
I bought this as i was moving into my first house and needed a handy wee knife for unpacking boxes and DIY.
I really like the folding feature of this knife as it fits in your pocket a lot easier than a traditional Stanley knife and its also an additional safety feature as the blade is folded inside the handle, the spare blades are also stored inside the handle.
It is well constructed as you would expect with a “Stanley” Stanley Knife.
Some other reviewers have mentioned that the blades are awkward to change, i haven’t had any trouble changing them so far (i found the instructions on the packaging self-explanatory), just watch your fingers when handling the blades.
I would recommend this product.
I had no issues with delivery.
Pain to change the blade but sturdy knife
Brought for BF even though I knew from previous reviews that it was difficult to change the blade… Used a previous review comment to figure it out… at one point he got the blade stuck inside but eventually got it out.
Once that was figured out… perfect knife so i would still recommend
Stanley knife
I read a variety of reviews concerning this item and many said it was difficult to fit the blade in. I did not find this to be the case and would not hesitate in ordering another one if it was necessary.
Really good!
Very happy with my new Stanley knife.
Thanks to previous reviews, I managed to fit my blade with relative ease. Its perhaps not as simple as it could be, but once its in, it certainly is in!
The folding facility is very handy and it feels very sturdy in use. It cuts quite well too!
A good choice to buy
I like the idea that it can be folded away so it can fit easy in to your pocket. Once folded it’s safe and you can’t accidently cut yourself.
What you need to know!
This utility knife is fantasic and far superior to the bog standard version. Regrettably there are absolutely no instructions with the knife. I had to go on to youtube before discovering that the three blades included were to be found under the handle. The youtube video is helpful and this is the link: […]
do the job rubest and precises
great product do the job perfect really worth the money. Be carefully through it come without razors so had to invest another 5 pounds on good stanley razor set.
This knife is amazing
This knife feels incredible in hand, looks great, and the supplied blades slice through anything as required. The packaging was a huge issue in the comments, from which i can only assume people are attempting to open the product with a banana
Fantastic DIY knife
I bought this knife as I’ve had a tried-and-tested solid Stanley knife for ages, but really wanted one which I could put in my pocket whilst working, and generally leave about the place a bit without worrying about stabbing myself. Second priority was quick change of blade without having to find a screwdriver, and my third was feeling solid in use – I was once bought a “folding” knife as a pressie but any reverse pressure and it flopped in and tried to take your little finger off. That went in the bin.
Result? Yes, yes, and yes! When you fold the knife open, there’s a strong and well engineered spring lever which toggle locks it open. You cannot fold the knife shut without intentionally operating the release spring which is nicely out of the way, but not too difficult to get to. You have to retract the blade to properly close the knife, and opening is easy – I quite happily put this in my pocket when working, and would reach for it one handed while up a ladder if required.
The extend/retract is well done – you can really lean on the blade, and poke things if required, without the blade flopping out of the way. And the blade swap is a 2 second job, just by pressing the red button you can pull out and fit a new blade. Also there’s capacity to hold about 3 blades inside the body of the knife.
For being a folding/retractable/heavily featured knife, this feels really solid and is a joy to use. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.
I use Stanley knifes alot and this is my favorite so far, its also very safe because you can easily retract the blade back in and then when you have finished with it the whole thing neatly fold in half and closes onto its self, great ! the other thing I like is the handle doubles up as a spare blade storage compartment.
I’ve had this for a few months and have used it a lot. For a lot of things. I must admit that having a stanley knife is almost addictive and becomes almost second nature after a while.
I’ve seen quite a few different styles of stanley knives and this is probably in the middle of the pack. It’s not meant for heavy-duty use, like carpet-laying, since being fold-able is less sturdy by design and thus will break sooner in those circumstances.
It has a few things that make it more inclined for general use however and for that purpose, it’s quite good. It has a nice grip and the rubber patch on the front means you can use it to apply quite a bit of pressure should you want to. It has a magazine for storing extra blades but you can’t carry more than three, which should be enough to last anyone other than a carpet layer throughout the day. It has a nice clip that you can use to snag it to a pocket and have it ready for immediate use.
One drawback is that it’s not that easy to clean, mine still doesn’t need it, badly, but when it will, I dread having to take it apart. Also, on some occasions the blade slider tends to get stuck for no good reason. It’s probably some dirt because after a few attempts, it comes loose and works as intended.
The wire cutting function is something I haven’t seen in other stanley knives but it’s also something I hardly ever used. It only works on very thing cables and wires and, as a consequence, is quite limited.
All in all, I’m quite happy with it, it wasn’t cheap but it was worth it. Would definitely recommend it.
One handed operatio
Great item. I have now purchased three for different locations. The only drawback is the belt clip which kept catching so I have removed them. This makes the unfolding so easy I can do it one handed, if required, but closing it where you need to release the safety lock still, thankfully, really needs two.
I like it I like it a lot!
Good quality product that is expected from the Stanley Fatmax range my only critism being the lack of instructions regarding fitting the blade, managed it in the end but more through luck than anything hence the four stars.
Good Knife
Bought for work as im opening boxes all day and other objects, negative is the paint chips off if you drop it on the floor, not a biggie other then that it works great. The folding is why I bought it, blade change is easy once you get the hang of it, the packaging from Stanley is stupid though, really hard to get out and had to rip it.
This is a very good knife, I like how it’s retractable and it folds. Takes a few days to get used to this if you are using the knife often throughout the day. Comes with about 5 Fatmax blades which are stored under the black flap in the handle. My only criticism is true of all knives like this with a quick release button – the blade does wobble a bit. But changing blades is very easy and fast.
chunky knife
Strong, handy folding knife with many uses. Seems very sturdy but the operation was a bit awkward. Unfolding and locating blades took a moment but OK once it had been worked out.
Been after a good stanley knife for a while and after reading several reviews i decided to go for this one. Folds in half when not being used for easy storage, has a belt clip on the back and has the easiest blade change of any knife i have ever used. Simply slide out the blade as if you were cutting, push the small red button to release the blade then slot in the new blade job done. Very good product and quick delivery.
