What to consider when buying a nightlatch
Which size do I need?
Yale Nightlatches come in two different backset sizes that fit different door types.
Make sure you measure the door before you purchase one. The backset on a night latch is the distance from the centre of the keyhole to the edge of your door.

- Narrow width for glazed panel doors – 40 mm;
- Standard width for solid doors – 60 mm;

Not quite a direct replacement lock
Current, unbranded front door night latch was stiff to operate. Decided to buy Yale as they are generally high quality. This lock was indeed very good quality. Previous lock had a right angle plate which held the latch against the side of the door frame. This one does not, which makes it quite tricky to get it close enough to the catch on the door frame. Having an existing lock barrel hole meant there was very little slack.
Tardis Lock
I installed this lock on a Tardis I am currently building. Needless to say it looks perfect. Keep in mind this lock is 40mm and chromed. It’s easy to install as well. Shipping was very fast! (I live in the U.S) In fact it arrived 3 days early! It was a little expensive but well worth it.
