Over the years we’ve accumulated a lot of paperwork and this thing goes through it really quickly. Might be considered excessive for domestic use but who really wants to be shredding 4-6 sheets at a time with a tiny thing.

This the second of this model shredder I have brought. The first suffered abusive overuse for years and when I had a problem was replaced without quibbling. Good company & good shredde

had a few cheaper units before, this one is much much quieter than any of the others Ive had and shreds multiple pages with ease. Nice big bin as well. thoroughly recommend for a good powerful home shredder.

I had mountains of shredding and have already worn out loads of the smaller ones over the years. This one finished off the job perfectly without breaking down or paper getting stuck. Would recommend.

The first shredder I’ve had that appears to be able to shred multiple pages with ease. Not overly noisy for a shredder, it accommodates bank cards and CD’s as well. It’s well made and has, so far, been reliable. I purchased the Bonsai oiled sheets for maintenance and now its approx two years old, it still works as it did when new. Great piece of kit!

I’ve had a few shredders now that get clogged easily, overheat, and break-down. Happy to say this isn’t one of them. It’s the best I’ve had by far. Easy to use and works for long periods without over-heating.

This machine does what it claims and more ! It’s tough and even eats up staples and thick card
Saves time as you can put big loads of paper through unlike other equally priced machines that can’t handle volume or staples
    Happy purchase !

Keep having to buy more expensive shredders as they keep breaking down, so decided to bite the bullet & get a well relatively expensive one 150 quid not cheap.
Any way so far so good, arrived on time packaged well, the built in wheels means it moves ok & no having to put it together.
Finished my current shredding marathon (interrupted by previous machine breakdown).
Coped with staples and bundles of papers ok, like the fan which should reduce overheating (a previous & frustrating problem).
    So now all about longevity.
Did order some oil to go with it, as suspect that may have not helped previous machines longevity.
The built in bin is a real plus as previous ones you had to lift the shredder unit off.

Quietest shredder I’ve had. Eats up paper and cardboard with ease.
Haven’t had to put it in reverse once yet.
Good size bin which is very easy to remove.
Only negative point is due to the cooling fan it does kick up some paper dust.

I like the fact that I can move it about easily. Also goes on for ages without having to stop to cool down like my old one. It was really quiet too. Wish I’d bought this years ago!

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersVery pleased with this shredder. Noise level acceptable. Shredded paper into very small pieces. Says it would take 14 sheets at a time. I feel this would be a bit much unless the sheets were very thin. I put through 7 to 8 sheets at a time, seemed to manage easily. Also chews up staples. Would recommend.

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersThis really is an amazing shredder, although in fairness I have had it less than a month. The buttons are slightly sticky but hopefully they will ‘wear in ‘. Have not found a micro shredder that is lower than this price. It shreds perfectly especially for highly confidential paperwork . The waste bin is also extremely large. I just hop[e it continues to work as perfectly as it does now.

Tried the market leader 4 times but still broke or overheated so thought I’d spend a bit more and went for several over 300 but this does all the market leader does and can run for almost an hour and it’s half the price of the market leader.

After reading many of the reviews I was curious.
It is a well made product, I have used many professional shredders in the office before. This is perfect for heavy home / small – medium office use.
Can very easily shred up to 10 pages 80 gram paper quickly at a time.
I have tried with 18 pages, which just about can do it – really is maximum.
Noise level is in my opinion compared to office shredders I used very acceptable, you could still have a phone conversation in the same room.
So far so good, shredded about 2000 pages with no issue.
Same for the bin – compared to office shredders I used – all very good, put a bag over the bin, tip it done – no mess.
    Would buy it agai

All the positives about this shredder that are stated or advertised we found to be 100% accurate. Very easy to use, the casters on the bottom ensure you can move around easily, and it can shred about 18 sheets of A$ at a time.

This is one beast of a shredder and at a reduced price too. I would rate this as a very good all-round shredder, in that it shreds documents into exceptionally small pieces, is relatively quiet and, because it has a fan, does not overheat. Unfortunately mine unexpectedly failed after approximately nine months’ use, but has been replaced under warranty with no quibble and with excellent service and communication from both the seller, Justar, and from Amazon. The replacement took less than five days from start to finish, and I would definitely buy from this seller again.

I had a lot of shredding to do, and the previous shredder had given up the ghost. This shredder has a nice big capacity and can shred up to 18 sheets of paper at a time. It goes virtually non-stop for an hour before you have to let it cool down. The wheels make moving it around really easy. Great value for money if you have lots to shred.

Got this one after my nephew killed my cheap 7 sheet job by trying to shred about 12 sheets. I wasn’t able to save it. Kind of glad it went though – it would overheat and auto stop more frequently than I liked.

This new one shreds everything I throw at it. And I’ve had a decent shredding session and it hasn’t stopped or complained. You get what you pay for. And so I reckon this is good value for its abilities.

If like me you have gone through a number of cheap basic shredders then buy this one. It just goes on and on. I have worked it very hard getting rid of years of unwanted paperwork and photographs including negative strips. This shredder just deals with everything you can possibly throw at it and can be used almost continuously. I have never yet had the overheat light turn on. Officially it can shred for an hour then needs just a 10 minute break. What more could you ask for at this sort of price? My strong recommendation is to buy this

This shredder is amazing, I have been able to shred at least 7 dustbin bags of paper in a short period of time. Unlike most shredders this has a continuous shred for about an hour with a very quick cool down period. Definitely worth the money if you have LOADS to shred.

Golden Review Award: 29 From Our UsersWe bought this as an upgrade from a cheap Fellows shredder, one which would frequently choke on it’s rated 6 sheets and then need a lie down to cool off after just a few minutes work.

By comparison, this Bonsai unit chewed it’s way through a 2ft tall 2ft square wicker basket full of confidential waste in one afternoon without missing a beat. The only thing that held it back was how fast I could feed it, so clearly the cooling fan in this design makes a real difference.

Highly recommend and well worth the outlay.

We bought this shredder for our admin office after first getting another well know brand which was absolute rubbish and was sent back. The Bonsaii is brilliant. Used now for a few weeks and never once jammed up or had to use reverse for any reason. All I would say is that the recommendation of maximum sheets at once is far too many. I have only gone to about 6 or 8 at a time. But I have absolutely no negative points about this shredder. It really is excellent.

Perfect for shredding corrugated cardboard. Copes easily with 18 sheets of paper.
    Manoeuvrable.
Plastic collection bag fits easily into the collection bin. Bin slides in and out easily.
Good amount can be collected in the bin before it needs emptying.
Oil cutters around once a month to keep them sharp.
    Low noise when operating

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersWas pleasantly surprised at how quiet this shredder was compared to the last shredder I had. The fact it can run for an hour compared to having to shut my last one down after 10-15 minutes to let it cool down for almost the same amount of time and was taking less paper to shred. This one takes more paper and with the front access you are not continually emptying the shredded paper which is collected in a bag that I made use of to collect the shredded paper(came with the shredder) I also bought the paper which oils the shredder to keep it in good condition. There is an option if you want to buy collection bags on Amazon if desired

Four stars instead of five because for the price I would have expected a few sheets of shredder lubricant, or a small spray. However, having just moved home it was the perfect time to de-clutter and shred years of unneeded documents…a satisfying chore with this shredder. I expected it to jam or the thermal cut-out to kick in during a mammoth rip through old photos, bank statements and essays…going strong after several black bin bags full.

An excellent shredder which unfortunately decided to stop working after six months of very light use. So why give it five stars, I hear you ask? Well, we contacted the manufacturer, Bonsaii immediately and their customer services team were on the case at once. We described what the shredder was doing i.e. fan running continuously in ‘shred’ mode but not reacting to paper being introduced for shredding. They asked us to send them a short video to show what was happening. All this only took a couple of days. They then said that they were replacing the shredder with a new one and we didn’t need to return the old one. The new one arrived about two days later and is happily working well. That to me warrants the five stars I’ve given.

Golden Review Award: 35 From Our UsersI already had a small shredder which said it took 6 sheets of paper but regularly blocked. So I bought this Bonsaii having read other reviews.

    I am very pleased.

Now I can shred 10 – 12 sheets of paper at a time easily, although lots of paper shredding makes it stop to cool down after about 15 minutes.

However, the added bonus is that I can now shred cardboard as well. Who would have thought this could be so useful? I needed mulch for my allotment, and I now can shred all the brown cardboard that arrives in my house so that it is immediately ready to put round my plants.

I couldnt do THAT with my little flimsy shredder!

You really have to spend this amount to get a good, sturdy, RELIABLE shredder. Now that I work from home, I go thru a mountain of paper/month and the shredder is on for a good 10-15 mins say once a month to avoid a huge build-up of sensitive documents and other paper items to be shredded.

Great machine. Munches through a lot of paper and cardboard with no trouble at all. Saves hours when I compare against my cheaper machine that use to run out of puff very quickly and was always jamming. Shocked just how much paperwork we needed to shred. Good job done now and will keep on top of it in future.

Bought this to replace old 5 sheet shredder. The difference is chalk and cheese. I had been going through old paperwork and with the mountain I had for shredding this paper shredder made short work of it in double quick time. It was no effort and very quiet. I also bought the oil for the cutters. I would highly recommend this product.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI purchased this shredder in November last year and after a couple of months I had an issue with it so I used the contact details provided on the machine and I was given immediate support and sent a replacement machine within a couple of days which works perfectly. A big thanks to Mia for being so helpful and professional!
I like the fact that the shredder isn’t as noisy as others I have used in the past and also that it can shred a number of pages together. The biggest bonus for me, however, is the fact that the customer service contact details are clearly provided on the machine and that the response is very quick and supportive.

Despite being inside two boxes, this shredder was broken when it arrived. The back of the case had been smashed. However, we did test it before returning it because I intended to buy another one but this time in person when the lockdown is lifted.

This may be a fairly expensive shredder but it is absolutely superb in what it does. It will chew through anything you can throw at it. And it doesn’t slow down or overheat. It will easily keep shredding for the full hour that it states in the description. So in terms of performance, I cannot fault it. Just a shame it arrived damaged. But, it is definitely on my list to buy when the stores open again.

I work from home and shred a lot of paper each week, this shredder is excellent, it will shred with the staples still in, which is a big plus as most of my paperwork is stapled together, it takes card and also plastic. When it first arrived I filled 4 large bin bags with shredded paper and it never overheated once.
It is very quiet compared to my last shredder. I like the big collection bin, the only gripe I have with it is that when you empty the bin some of the shredding falls down behind the bin and then onto the floor. My last shredder had a top that removed so this didn’t happen. But I am still more than happy with it.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI have been trying to move to paperless and not doing very well due to mountains of paperwork generated by my small business over the years; the cheapo shredder we owned only worked for a few minutes and would jam and overheat so I spent its cool down periods googling replacements and found the Bonsaii C149-D and related reviews on YouTube…. I hesitated due to cost but due to the problems I was having with the cheap shredder I pulled the trigger and ordered the C149-D. It is just AWESOME… runs continuously and I’m working though the pile of paperwork and my office is getting clearer. Not too noisy and a joy to use! Fantastic bit of equipment; ditch your cheapo shredder now. DIN P-4 (Microcut) is an added bonus and much better than cheapo cross-cut.

Needed something more robust (I’ve been through two or three smaller ones that did not last more than a year) to shred large quantities of old papers that had accumulated prior to online paperless. It is quieter than smaller ones; the wheels make it far easier to move from place to place; it’s small enough to fit under the pedestal part of the desk. I oiled it with the recommended oil which I bought at the same time as the shredder and, as per instructions after six empties of the bin, it simply purred after this! I’d not been aware that shredders needed to be oiled; certainly the manufacturers of smaller ones never mention or recommend it in their instructions. So far, so good.

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersI’m very pleased with this paper shredder. It is a great fit for a small business or home office where you need to securely dispose of client, financial, or other confidential documents. I received it today and have shredded a couple of hundred pages. It churned through them readily and had no problem handling 14 sheets (with staples) at once.

My old shredder handled only a few pages at once and was constantly jamming. This one is a joy in comparison.

    Pros:
    – Easily handles the specified 14 sheets (of my printer paper)
    – Shreds securely into 4mm x 10mm bits
    – Worked fairly continuously 200+ sheets without overheating, jamming, or stalling
    – Moderate noise level
    – Pull-out bin has hooks for plastic bag and easy removal
    – Fits comfortably under a desk and is easy to roll out on its casters

    Cons:
    – None
    – Removing the bin is a bit stiff
    – The ‘off/standby’ position is weirdly labeled ‘blank’

High performance home shredder. We routinely use the manual reverse during shredding to prevent any build up of shredded paper in the mechanism. Despite no jamming event, I noticed one of the plastic separators on the underside of the shredder had sheared and hung down. This didn’t prevent the shredder functioning, just an intermittent squeak. An email to bonsaii customer care with invoice and photo elicited a response within 24 hours and a replacement shredder within 48 hours. I am confident this was an exceptional fault as the shredder is robustly made and handles much more than our previous shredder. I haven’t tried 18 sheets or a full 60 minutes work as it hasn’t been required to deal with the paperwork we wish to dispose of. I would definitely recommend this shredder.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThis thing is a beast. I bought it to shred cardboard for composting and had hoped it would handle corrugated cardboard. It does this no problem. I just finished shredding some boxes which were double wall corrugated and really heavy duty. I had to stand on the cardboard to squash it flatter so it would fit in the slot but once the chompers got a grip on it it just dragged it through no problem. I’m super impressed by what it can handle. I’m sure it wasn’t designed to take just large jobs but it didn’t struggle at all.

It’s super quiet too. I live in a block of flats with a family underneath me and I generally try to be courteous when it comes to noise but I’m happily use this machine in the middle of the night it’s so quiet.

It does have a couple of bad points but this may be specific to me more than the general public. The slot has a flat top and I have to fiddle about to get the cardboard in. It would be better if it hard a large mouth that tapered in just to make it easier to feed.

The other issue is the collection bin is small and there isn’t really any way to fix this. My last shredder could be lifted off its collection bin and placed on a large 90 litre rubbish bin so you’d have to empty it far less often. This one fills up very fast. It’s quite low down too so not great on the back. A bigger taller collection bin making the shredder higher up would solve this. But it’s not a deal breaker

I read a few reviews before buying and they mentions the wheels aren’t great and it’s difficult to move around. Well, either they fixed that problem or those buyers didn’t release the brakes because my wheels spin very freely and is very maneuverable

It’s super quiet, can handle really thick cardboard, doesn’t seem to ever overheat and looking down in to those chompers it looks like it will last a lifetime. Definitely buy this product.

Also, buy some oil too because it isn’t supplied with any oil and you do need to oil it every half hour of use

Super quiet and super tough, cracking bit of ki

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersI’ve had a Bonsaii 18 sheet shredder before which lasted at least five years until it gave up the ghost. This one when it worked was just as good but as its only lasted two months I’ve either been unlucky or, they’ve changed how these are made? The problem I now have is the price has gone up by 50.00 and I cant get a replacement from the seller.
Maybe it was cheaper because they knew something I didn’t but all in all I have a shredder that no longer works.
Two months isn’t very long for something to stop working so if you’re looking at getting one maybe you should check out all the reviews.

    Update – 22-09-2020

After posting this review I was surprised to receive an email from Sharon at Justar Office, the seller, apologising for the inconvenience to me in receiving a shredder that went faulty after a couple of months. They think the motherboard controller has failed and I was then immediately offered a replacement machine without any prompting from me. The exact shredder I had bought previously from them wasn’t in stock and they were waiting for them coming in but for whatever reason they couldn’t get hold of one for a few weeks. Rather than make me wait and wait I was offered a different model that will do the job I require just as well. The communication from Sharon at Justar Office was exceptional throughout and no sooner had I accepted her offer of a different replacement model it must have been immediately dispatched because it arrived the very next day. As I said in my review I have used a Bonsaii Shredder before and know them to be good. The big selling point for me is they have a fan cooling system inside which means you can shred away for 60 minutes or more.
To my mind the test of a great company isn’t when things are going well its how they deal with you when things go wrong. In that regard I would consider Justar Office’s after sales service to be world class and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company to anyone.

Love the idea of the system that cools the cutters, which means it will run continuously for much longer without cutting out to cool down. It far surpasses other shredders we have used in the past. Hope this great performance continues with use over time. To give it the best chance we use the recommended lubricating oil and follow the instructions on frequency of application to the cutters.

Have bought this to replace our old shreder at work, and I must say, it does the job so far. It’s smaller in size than the previous brand, but still manages to hold quite a lot of paper, it’s easy to use, easy to set up, turn on/off and “eats” the paper sheets faster than his predecesor.
We only gave it 4* because it’s very noisy and it feels like it’s right next to you when someone at the other end of the room uses it, and can’t use it if one of us is on the phone, but that’s not a big issue for us.
All in all, we recommend i

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have a home office and I have got through a number of shredders. We wait to see if this one lasts any reasonable length of time, but the fact that it allows up to 18 sheets at a time, suggests that by feeding only 5 or 6 at a time, should not unduly wear it out. The next price bracket is significantly higher and quite big too, so I want to continue to purchases in this part of the market.

I bought this after doing some research on-line. My previous shredder only ran for 3 mins before stopping. This one came out on top for value and performance. It states it has an hour run rate and can take 18 sheets in one go. Well it does and it can although I didn’t pass 18 sheets every time. It’s a real work horse. It’s very quiet too. It feels a bit flimsy, don’t let that put you off, and I’d prefer slightly small shreds but it is still secure enough. Love that is uses shredder bags. I didn’t buy bags initially so just used a bin liner. Shredder bags are better as you can see how full the bin is. I did bags of shredding in one go and it didn’t stop other when the bag was full. So easy to empty too.

This shredder has an auto function so no need to use on/off switch between papers being shredded.Shreds into small pieces, not strips into a good size bin with a ‘window’ in to check level of shredded paper .Staples need not be removed (ins’ say will do paperclips as well). It has an overheat function if used over 3 mins, some shredders work for longer, but these are nearly twice the price.I had a lot of paperwork to shred so I did find it turned off occasionally but if I do my shredding more regularly,3 mins is fine.Oh,it’s not too noisy either.

My old straight shredder was very tired and giving out.
This one gave off a bit of smoke from the oil on the blades when first used but that stopped quickly and now it’s munching through paper like a good one. I have done 6 sheets at a time and some thin card and it handles it all well. Just be careful when lifting the top off to empty as the small bits get all over the floor..

This is in a different league to the other shredder’s I have bought. Its quiet and it shreds for ages – in fact after 40 minutes it was still going strong. Sheds a shed load of paper. So the down side is that the first one they sent didn’t work- apparently there was a problem with the circuit board. They replaced it within a day. So customer service is good. In view of the customer service and the excellence of the product I would highly rate this product in spite of the blip

Good shredder useable for good long periods of 20- 25 mins. Needs care with more than 6 sheets together as it tendes to spread them out sideways a little and the cross cutting becomes a little less at the edges so not for the higher security uses unless fewer sheets a re fed at a time.
Quiet in comparison to other brands we have had.

If you’re looking for a a budget shredder then this is worth buying. I had a lot of shredding to do in one go, hopefully it will never build up to that amount again, and I managed to get it done. It did over heat and jam a few times and I had to invest in lubricant sachets and oil as well to get it going again. But the best thing to do when it jams is to clear it out and leave in alone to cool down for a couple hours. On the whole I’m happy with this purchase.

Very good value for money, but it is not for heavy use, its for light use, when it get hot it will stop working all together, it will take may be about 20 minutes to cool down. so for light work yes but for heavy work no.

Golden Review Award: 73 From Our UsersBrilliant absolutely brilliant made easy work of a mountain of confidential and private paperwork that would have taken weeks of slog with our old one. I bought oil as well as I didn’t realise the need to oil a shredder. Easy to oil I found a video online just add some oil to one piece of paper in a zig zag and feed through. Using reverse and forward switch.
It does take up to 18 sheets but mostly we have put a dozen or so at the same time.
    No need to remove staples.
Laminates need to be sandwiched in between two sheets of paper.
We also tried it on credit card great job on that too.
Bin nice and large I’d advise emptying before it gets absolutely full to avoid mess spilling out on the floor.
It comes with 1 plastic bag insert we did use that, it clips on two lugs, this does make emptying easy, but we haven’t bought more of these yet as the one has lasted.
All in all a brilliant buy and I would recommend to others who have large amounts of shredding .

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersSo had this for a few days. Have been shredding ‘loads’ not actually counting how many sheets I put in at a time but must be at least 12-14+ sheets and no problems so far. No jams, no cutting out (as yet) I think at present, I would recommend this shredder so unless it deteriorates after further use, It great! Also decent size waste bin, easy to remove and empty.
Have just also purchased oil for the cutters as it seems that most recommend oiling every now and then.
I will only update this if problems start to occur otherwise a good machine for the price (not the cheapest) as they say you get what you pay for!!! – 5*

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersBought to replace an aged Rexel shredder that finally gave up the ghost, this is an excellent and compact piece of kit.
When it came out of the box it looked rather small and I was concerned that it’s capacity might be a little too small.
Not a bit of it. It micro-shreds into much smaller pieces than my old Rexel cross-cut shredder and so it actually has a larger capacity in real use than the Rexel. Smaller pieces, so much more compact and incidentally, more secure,, whereas the Rexel filled the bucket with air and larger pieces.
It’s not very quiet, but much less noisy than the Rexel was.
It genuinely will shred 6 sheets at a time, but like all domestic shredders it’s not for constant use.
If you run it too long, there is a thermal cut out which stops the cutting until the motor cools down.
Realistically, unless you are shredding an entire office full of stuff, it’s more than adequate.
It would probably cut through a staple if you accidentally left one on the paper, but it’s not designed for it, so you should be careful.
It won’t cut credit cards or CDs either and it won’t shred Mail-Lite bags (I ripped some open and pulled off the plastic bubbles before shredding the labels. That works).

I’m very happy with it and having just checked online, it’s a Which Best Buy too.

So if you want an inexpensive, compact and effective shredder, for domestic use, I would recommend this one.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersThis does cut well, this does do many sheets, you can do it for a long time without it overheating.
But… sometimes you switch it on and put the paper in and it does nothing. No shredder start up.
You check all the switches, switch it off an on again, check everything but it will not shred.
You have heard that thin paper may tell the sensor that paper is not there but that is not the case as this is many pages.
You spin it round, switch it off and on again. Put the paper in, take it out. Do this a few times more.
Boom! Suddenly it starts shredding for you again.
This is what I experience from my use of it.
Make of it what you will.
I like it when it shreds but it is picky about when it wants to do it.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersThe shredder does what it says, however after a few months it stopped working and made a noise like the motor was running but nothing was moving. So why 5 stars? Because the customer service was impeccable – they gave step by step instruction to rectify problem – when this did not work they asked me to send a video so they could hear what the machine was doing. At the end of this they realised the issue was not able to be fixed and sent a new machine out.

They also gave further instructions on how to maintain the machine, to prevent this possibly happening again. So yes I recommend this product both because it does what it says and because the customer service is very helpful if it goes wrong.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersEarly days yet, but I read a lot of comments on lots of shredders both good and bad on all different price ranges.
I decided to go for this one and thought if it stops working I haven’t wasted to much money. I have not tried 6 sheets fact I put in an old wage slip that came in a small brown envelope (remember those from many years ago) and the cutters sound like they was struggling. I have been sitting here putting one sheet at a time through ( I find this quite therapeutic, sad I know), and can shred for about 15 – 20 minutes before it over heats and stops. After 15 – 20 minutes cool down I can go back to it. As with any shredder I think you have to take your chance.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI have a small business and have quite a bit of shredding to do. Other machines always give up the ghost after a few times of using.
Not this baby I have years and yrs of old invoices and bank statements etc to shred.
This machine is making light work of it all. I use for about 40-50 mins at a time, let the machine rest for 30 mins then use again. The mountain of paperwork is slowly going down. Recommend is 18 sheets at a time I do about 10 as don’t want to overload and cause stress on the motor.
I have been using it for a few days, at the moment it’s being used loads and then it will just be occasional use. Great shredder though. Well worth the money I spent.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis is not a difficult review to write or a four star rating to be give BUT context has to be provided….

This shredder was bought as a gift for a family at home who would only have occasional need for shredding a few papers at a time.

^^^^ The above is kinda important and hence the four star rating for this capable, and yet not robust, shredder.

In operation this shredder is about as noisy as others we have used. What is apparent is that it is not design with high or continued use with close to its rated maximum capacity of paper. However its price did reflect that when we bought this and it matched the intended use that it was put to.

The cross cut pieces are well defined and not strung together, in other words it cuts consistently and their pieces are small enough in the bin as advertised.

We did recommend to our daughter that it is occasionally cleaned, after unplugging the unit they flip the top over to clean out the mechanism from clogging up random pieces of paper.

Now and again they have also used “Swordfish shredder oil” to run through a piece of paper smeared with that lubricant. I reckon that the lube is important as paper tends to have a “powder” or something applied to keep the sheets from sticking to each other. This causes the mechanism in the shredder to become quite dry, it used to be an issue also with printers and the rubber drive rollers would become coated and not be able to grip the paper to pull it through.

With the above intended use in mind and the capability of this type of shredder and its price I do recommend it.

However if you expect or need more industrious and durable shredder then I would consider looking elsewhere as you might well be disappointed with this particular model.

It pays to research and do some reading before buying a shredder, more so if you are wanting to use them regularly, also take the quoted maximum paper handling of most paper shredders with a pinch of salt and you’ll be fine.

    Hope this review helps.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI have only had the shredder for a couple of days and have not really put it to the test yet so maybe they should wait a bit before asking for a review. Anyway, I have put a few sheets through it and it seems to work fine. The sheets of paper are virtually obliterated so is ideal for destroying confidential and/or sensitive information. It was very well packed and I doubt even the clumsiest of delivery drivers could damage it. The design is contemporary and the size ideal for home use. Despite its powerful motor, I do not think it is suitable for heavy use in an office environment. All in all, despite it being early days, it appears to have been an excellent purchase.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI think that 18 sheets in a single pass is probably pushing it, but when shredding around 10 sheets at a time the machine worked continuously for over an hour. Even at that point it was still running – I had just run out of paper to shred.

Our previous shredder was around 50 and was hard work – fine if you only had a few sheets of paper, but otherwise it would overheat very quickly. This shredder is a far better purchase despite the higher cost.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our Usersi have had cross cut shredder in the past but this product is by far the best one I have used to date as the it cuts it up into very small pieces compared to my other shredder so for me this was the right choice. I did try to cut 3 sheets of paper and even thou it did cut them it was a struggle so six would be a bit more difficult I would think but I am not saying it would not cut them just takes longer but as I only put one sheet in at a time it is ok for me.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersEarly impressions of this are very good. Got one of these after becoming increasingly frustrated at most shredders that cut out after anywhere between 3 and 6 minutes of shredding, and then need 30 minutes ‘cool down’ period before they will work again.

In practice, this means that if you are decluttering paperwork that you end up filling far more bags than can be shredded because they shredders keep cutting out.

There are quite a few Fellows shredders on here that cost upwards of 200 that still only work for a few minutes before cutting out.

So, while this did strike me as expensive for something I really consider to be in the same breath as an item of office stationery, it is nevertheless relatively good value.

The main selling point for me was the 1 hour run period. I have run it for two 1 hour stints now, and it has worked as marketed so far. Keeps on chomping away. Not too loud. Convent clear panel at the front so you can see when it’s getting full. Easy to empty. Plenty of sheets per pass, so no issues on that front either.

So, while it was frustration that led me to get this, I have to say that I have been very happy with it, and that it does genuinely solve a real (first world!) problem of shredding continuously for a decent time without stopping.

Did think about the D model which has slightly smaller shredding. But the drawbacks of that are that it does less sheets and also doesn’t chomp on CDs or Credit Cards, so I suspect the motor isn’t as powerful.

Glad I went for this C model. The motor is plenty powerful. Does 18 sheets rather than 12. Also does CDs and Credit Cards. And honestly, the shredding seems plenty small enough to me. Unless you are shredding state secrets or NASA codes I think you will find this one more than adequate.

Only had it a week, so not sure on longevity or customer service, because it has worked fine. But it looks sturdy enough and was well-packaged, so I remain quite hopeful that the 5 star rating will stay.

    Well done Bonsai!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersGiven some of the negative remark on the posts, I expected to be slightly disappointed but this is an excellent piece of kit – it’s very quiet compared to my previous one and doesn’t struggle with 15 sheets of regular paper. It’s not particularly quick, but it has stamina – a marathon runner, not a sprinter! Time will tell how durable it proves in a small/home office. Very satisfied.

Follow-up comment: be aware that the shredder teeth are spaced 5cm apart – larger than 12pt printed text. If you feed a sheet of paper in ‘sideways’ chunks of text are visible including bank sort codes and account numbers. Not a problem if you dispose of your shredding with care. See photo. It’s still very quiet and goes about its business with stamina!

Had an old strip cut shredder that needed replacing and not really satisfactory for more secure shredding.
Replaced with Bonsai Evershred cross cut shredder for general use in small office environment, after a reasonable amount of deliberation with comparison of other models and cost.
Tend to shred ‘on the go’ and as needed rather than waiting for huge volumes to pile up, and probably no more than half a dozen sheets at a time.
Very satisfied with shredder, much quieter operation than previous shredder and seems to eat up the paper with no difficulty.
Happy with product to date but not had any need to test it for prolonged shredding and maximum stated capacity.
Only provided with one clear plastic sack to collect cuttings, which I then empty into larger black refuse sack for disposal and recycling.
As the bin is ‘front loader’ it is easy to empty.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersWe do quite a lot of shredding in our house. When our Swordfish 2000XCD cross cut shredder died after more than nine years faithful service I checked what was on the market today. The current version of the Swordfish 2000XCD looks very similar to the EverShred C149-C with the same sized bin, but cost about 100 more. The Swordfish is rated for continuous use (recommended maximum 2 hours without a break) whereas the Bonsaii is rated for 1 hours use. The Swordfish is rated for a maximum of 20 80gsm sheets at a time and the Bonsaii is rated for 18. The Swordfish has a noise rating of 58dB and the Bonsaii 62dB. The Swordfish has a “bin full” light but the Bonsaii does not. With such similar specifications it was hard to justify the 100 premium for the Swordfish, so I decided to purchase the Bonsaii EverShred C149-C. It has been in service with us for six weeks now, and has had a lot of work to do as we are having a sort out prior to moving home. So how does the EverShred C149-C compare to our old Swordfish 2000XCD? The Evershred is much quieter than the old Swordfish, but is marginally slower and the “throat” of the Swordfish would take A4 in landscape orientation while the Bonsaii needs it to be in portrait. The Bonsaii bin does not hold as much shredded material, but is very adequate and the plastic of the cabinet and bin is not as thick as the Swordfish was but is nonetheless up to the job. Our old Swordfish died because the plastic fingers which separate the cutter disks and keep them clear of debris gradually became broken because the “bin full” light was hit and miss and the cutters were frequently picking up already-shredded material from a full bin. Not having a “bin full” light in the Bonsaii is an advantage as it forces you to pay attention to how full the bin is, rather than relying on the technology. Based on our experience so far I think the Bonsaii EverShred C149-C is a very worthy successor to our old Swordfish.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThis has an internal fan which switches on when the motor gets hot, so you can keep using it for hours. I recently went through about ten years worth of bank statements and other stuff which took about six hours and apart from a break for lunch I was at it none stop. This is much superior to the cheaper ones that overheat within minutes which are a false economy if you ask me; yes this is expensive but it will pay for itself in the long run.

It says it will shred 18 sheets at a time, but the blurb suggests that you only do this amount occasionally, so I limited it to a maximum of 12 sheets at a time. It cuts each sheet into pieces of about 2mm x 5cm and the capacity of the bin is such that it only took four bin loads to fill a average sized black bin bag. It is very quiet in operation, even when the fan comes on. The cable is 5ft long, so will probably need to be placed near a socket. The external dimensions are approximately 21″ x 14″ x 12″. It comes with an instruction manual and a plastic bin bag which I used for emptying the pieces into a larger bag, but then got fed up of fitting it back in so I stopped using it when I found no dust came out while shredding.

This is my 4th or 5th shredder in a short period. I had to give the other away in “good working condition” as they either were too noisy, or too slow, or jammed quickly, or overheated quickly.
The Bonsaii, on the other hand, seems to not have any of these problems. I have shredded approximately 5000 pages in one sitting without it overheating or jamming or stopping. It went through pages without any drama.
Of course, being able to feed it 18 pages (max) at a time reduces the shredding time considerably.
It has a cooler fan that is maybe slightly louder than a computer fan, so even with my sensible hearing it was not a problem.
So far, after using it for about a month, I am very happy with the product.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersA very impressive shredder. Bought a cheaper one (Cathedral cross cut) which would overheat after 7 passes of a4 paper so was returned.
This is a heavy machine. As yet we have not managed to get it to cut out. If you insert too much paper, it trickers a warning light but will push the paper forward and reverse untill it clears the jam, so no need to get too involved.
The motor has cooling fans which is why I think it quotes a 60mins work time and does not overheat.
We have cleared full invoice boxes without needing to stop. The user stops before the machine does.
We are lubrcating every 4th or 5th bucket full, oiling a couple of sheets of A4 and passing through the shredder.
This seems to be an excellent office shredder.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersHaving burned out my previous shredder (age related, I think!) I bought what was considered my best option for my needs.
The Bonsai was well within the correct price range, arrived very promptly and very well packed.
When plugged in to test, I was a little concerned with an overheating type smell and evidence of the machine having been used!
However, one of the enclosed leaflets explained that each machine was individually tested, so not to worry about any pieces of shred caught in the machine. The strange odour disappeared very quickly, the shredder worked magnificently and the shredded result was like large confetti.
I’m chuffed to bits with it and would thoroughly recommend it!
    Well done!

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersHad to update my shredder due to sorting out 10 years worth of domestic paperwork. While this unit was not as quiet as the description led me to believe it was certainly a lot less noisy than my original domestic shredder. The Bonsaii C149-C handled the mountain of paperwork admirably and the fan kept the motor cool when put under heavy load. I have used this all day, non stop, and have experienced no paper jams or overheat cut outs. As this unit is new then it would be misleading to comment on reliability but I expect to have no problems and can see myself using this shredder well in to the future. As for the seller, this was ordered 1 day and delivered the next, well packaged to ensure undamaged delivery, and I would defiantly recommend this product and seller.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersThis product is excellent. My partner has used it for a few days and it works very well, is quiet, is good quality, has a very good sized shredder waste bin and it seems to do a very good job with paper documents. My Partner has not tried this product with DVD or CD media, but it is very good with all types of paper documents. It has been used for a solid 40 minutes without a break and it worked reliably.
This scanning task was also repeated later the same morning and this device continued to work well. It worked well the day after, and the day after that ! It’s not easy to put waste paper bags into the shredding bin and closing the box correctly, however, without a clear plastic bag (a thin one not a carrier bag) the waste bin can be easily empted either directly into a large bag or nearby bin, obviously.
This Bonsaii EverShred C149-C product is a fantastic product for the money. It offers so much value for money compared to the cheaper shredders, over the longer term. I appreciate cheaper devices can shred for 8-10mins continously, at best, unless you purchase larger office sized Rexel Mercury Shredders (and others) that are very large A3 size and cost upwards of 500 from various suppliers.
Thanks Amazon for stocking this product. So far, post delivery, it has been very reliable. My partner has also shredded a number of bank documents (A4 size together, at the same time) and this device has not jammed once..

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSeems to be a good unit. The main top section (which can be detached from the bottom bin / wheels) is pretty heavy and I presume shows it’s build quality. The machine operates very quietly, maybe half the noise of cheaper / smaller equivalents. I’ve not been counting the pages that I put into it, ain’t nobody got time for that, but it doesn’t greatly struggle at all with even 18+ pages I’d say. Of course GSM thickness comes into play a lot though. The only way I’ve managed so far to lock it up is when I put a 2mm thick stainless name plate into it that was stuck on some pages I grabbed. The machine far play, actually got half way through the metal tag before it locked. Very impressive power. I have also been using Swordfish Shredder Oil every few buckets also. Over heating wise – I ran this machine from 8.30am till 12pm, then from 1pm to 4pm without any issue, any over heats, nor any tangible warmth on the unit. It has a built in cooling fan also, which u can hear come on, but again this is very quiet, and it seems to do a great job.
All in all I would recommend this shredder for anyone who gets tired of waiting for over heated, noisey, weak and poorly made shredders! Glad I invested.

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersI needed a decent shredder to start getting rid of files of paperwork accumulated over the years. I was content with something good enough for home use, that turned my confidential waste into confetti (rather than ribbons) and which was reliable but not too big. Having read many reviews, I settled on the Bonsaii C560-D, having also considered the slightly bigger Bonsaii C156-C model. I thought the price was very fair for both models.

I am pleased to report that the C560-D seems perfectly adequate for my purposes, and does what it says on the tin. Easy to set up – take it out the box, put the teeth onto the tub, plug it in and turn it on. Then start feeding your paper.

It is supposed to only be used continuously for 2 minutes before giving it a break, but I assume that recommendation is for when you are trying to do the maximum of six sheets of paper at a time, as I managed to keep shredding non stop for half an hour whilst just feeding one sheet at a time. It didn’t automatically shut down during this prolonged use, there were no jams, and a tub full of confetti at the end of it :o) So I think if you are patient and careful, this should work fine for low/moderate use. One file done, about 12 more to do…..

Golden Review Award: 34 From Our UsersThis is a relatively small micro-cut shredder suitable for regular but sporadic and not too heavy home-office use; i.e. it wouldn’t be suitable for continuous use in say a commercial office environment. It was bought to replace a Fellowes model that gave perfectly good service for at least a decade but finally died.

This machine can take 6 ‘normal’ thickness documents but anything over that runs the risk of a jam the un-jamming of which requires patience and prodding with a suitable implement; e.g. knitting needle or such. I’ve only had one instance of this, which was my own fault for trying to rush through a pile of shredding!

Nevertheless, for the price, providing you abide by the manufacturer’s guidance, it represents excellent value for money when compared to similar specifications from other makes. The waste is produced in the form of about centimetre long strips rather than just the document long strips produced by the previous Fellowes machine it replaced and thus would make reconstruction of a document virtually impossible for potential identity thieves. Credit cards are also munched up into little pieces.

Update: 02/04/16 This has now accomplished a vast amount of shredding – years of accumulated sensitive paperwork. It has completed this no problem. I will say that when it gets hot it stops for a period, say, 5 or 10 minutes, but then carries on with the job! That is definitely my fault for being impatient and/or over-ambitious – not the machine’s!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought some special sheets to put through the shredder before using it. They are about 5.00 and their purpose I think is to ensure the metal blades are fully lubricated and functional. Whether this action makes a mega difference or not I can only summise but I can say that this works a dream and I am using a lot. I also have spare sheets to ensure that continues. It is very compact in size and in its shredding. I am not at all unhappy with it and with limited space it is ideal for my flat and personal use. I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSo far so good. Good build quality. Shreds really well and it hasn’t struggled or gotten blocked up. Last shredder I had broke in about a week. My only issue and I’m not sure if it is similar to other shredders but the motor cut out after shredding around 30 pages over about 2 minutes. On reading the instructions it has a safety mechanism that will kick in to prevent over heating. Not a big problem but it’s worth being aware of this if you are planning a big shredding and clear out.

I’ve been using this shredder for 3 days now and not a single paper jam! Not meaning to be cynical, but that’s not bad as these things go. It is very compact. My only concern is that I’ll forget to stop shredding after 6 minutesand begin to have problems with the motor. But I like it fine so far.

Amazon’s delivery service is another story…First delivery failed with no notice through the door though they claimed to have been here… 1 day wasted. 2nd day I was virtually sitting on the stairs waiting. Then heard a tell tale sound of a card dropping. Ran down and found a tried to deliver card. I ran outside and 2 guys in the delivery van sain thay had been to my house, but admittedto not having tried the doorbell. Sorry, Amazon, but not good enough.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersMuch better than my old strip cut shredder. Thought it had stopped working after only one day, until my partner realised that I’d put the top back on the wastebin the wrong way round. I didn’t think it would make a difference but it did – must be a safety cutout to make sure it doesn’t go on when the top’s not on the bin or isn’t fitted properly, though I can’t see mention of this in the instructions. It does cut out fairly frequently, but I’m working my way through a large backlog of papers to be shredded so that’s understandable. Just leave it a few minutes to cool down and start again.
