Bought this as a gift for my boyfriend because he’s obsessed with ice cream and he absolutely loves it! It makes great ice cream in 30-40 minutes. I’d try doing gelato first, it’s the same amount of effort and way more delicious. Highly recommend this product for anyone wanting to make their own ice cream.

We consume a lot of icecream, almost on a daily basis so finally decided to buy an icecream maker and decided on the cuisinart due to customer reviews.
We followed the vanilla icecream recipe and ooo what a delight! Simple ingredients, easy instructions and voila.. homemade delicious icecream!
Will be trying out more flavours tomorrow.
Must add that the recipes call for double cream for the icecream but I just used normal fresh cream which was what was available and it turned out well! Have now put the rest of the icecream in the freezer and will see how that turns out tomorrow.
Very very happy with this machine so far.

I was very pleased with the ice-cream result – especially as I tried a dairy free recipe. However, I was surprised and disappointed by the noise it made. I had to walk out of the room and I still could hear it several rooms away. Every time I make ice-cream I will have to wear ear defenders. Im surprised this passed safety standards.

Did a little research on different machines and settled for this one, I love it can actually now have banana ice cream, being home made as well i know exactly what ingredients go in it. Only down side is i wished it lasted longer when making batches of ice cream without having to re freeze the mid section.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersOverall, this is a great ice cream maker. The mechanism itself is surprisingly simple (i.e. the device is basically just a large motor that spins round the pre-frozen tub – more on this later) and the ice cream itself is far superior to anything shop bought. Despite having bought some books on ice cream making, so far we’ve only tried the recipes in the supplied instruction book, and these have all been great. The basic vanilla is superb, the chocolate recipe (that requires melting chocolate beforehand) is heavenly, and the strawberry (including fresh strawberries in the recipe) is by far the best strawberry ice cream we’ve ever tasted.

All-in-all, the taste and texture of the ice cream has exceeded the expectations of the whole family. The amount made per batch is about the same as a regular shop bought tub (2 litres) and the complete control you have over the ingredients is a massive bonus for our family. My son has a nut allergy, so this device means that we can now make any flavour we want, without any fear whatsoever of nut contamination. I’d recommend the product for this ability alone.

We’ve also served the ice cream to friends as a dinner party dessert, and they’ve been equally impressed.

You do need to be mindful of a few things however, although none of which I feel are deal breakers:

    1. Firstly, the rotating tub is big. It’s about 20cm in diameter by 17cm high. This tub needs to be pre-frozen in a freezer before you make the ice cream, hence you do need sufficient freezer space to do this. This works very well in our chest freezer, but I’m not in the least bit convinced that we could fit the tub into our standard fridge freezer. Therefore if you don’t have a chest freezer, you may wish to consider a smaller model of ice cream maker.
    2. The device itself doesn’t freeze the ice cream. As outlined above, you need to place the tub in a freezer beforehand. The tub appears to contain liquid (I’m assuming similar to the liquid found in freezer blocks) and several hours in the freezer before use effectively turns the tub into a block of ice that stays sub-zero throughout the ice cream making process. The instructions advise that you freeze the tub for 12-24 hours before making the ice cream. However our experience has shown that you really need to give it the full 24 hours. Anything shorter, and the ice cream comes out too soft.
    3. Even with the full 24 hours, the ice cream still comes out fairly soft at the end of the process – a kind of Mr Whippy consistency. Although then transferring the ice cream into a tub and leaving it overnight in the freezer results in the harder texture of shop bought ice cream.
    4. Some prep is required, so don’t expect to simply pour in all the ingredients and let the ice cream maker do all the work. Although this prep is fairly simple. It normally involves just pre mixing some ingredients and then leaving to chill in the fridge for a few hours, before then pouring into the ice cream making.

Despite the above, we are still completely thrilled with the ice cream maker, as the end result is phenomenal. Hence I’d call the above 4 points “considerations” rather than criticisms. Why then only 4 stars?

For some reason, Amazon decided to use a courier to deliver the ice cream maker, rather than their own delivery infrastructure. I’m a big fan of Prime next day deliver, therefore was not very happy when a courier arrived with the product on a Friday, left a card, and said they’d be back on the Monday. There was no option for me to do anything about this. So my advertised next day Prime delivery took 4 days.

That aside, I’d recommend the product itself without hesitation.

Our only gripe is that the machine is so noisy its really antisocial. Holding a conversation in the kitchen with anyone whilst the machine is in use is not possible!!

  18. JeannieForro says:

Really pleased with this machine. It’s a bit bigger than I expected which is great. We were looking to replace an old small ice cream machine where the plastic arm was forever getting jammed and the motor couldn’t cope with thicker mixes.

With this machine the bowl moves instead of the arm which makes a huge difference to its robustness. Also the arm is not a single blade but more of a frame which stops it being super flimsy.

We keep the bowl in the freezer so it’s ready when we need it but the guide book does say that most recipes will need a few hours additional chilling time after 20-30 mins in the machine.

You can obviously eat it from the machine but it’s pretty soft, so the extra freezer time improves the texture (if you have the patience!).

Great sturdy machine with good capacity

  42. Anonymous says:

I can’t fault the operation of the machine and preface this review by saying I’m enjoying it so far…. but it’s not a complex beast.

I don’t really know what I was expecting in hindsight but you put a frozen bowl in it, put it from ‘off’ to ‘on’ and it spins round in a circle churning the ice cream. You decide when to put it from ‘on’ to ‘off’. Thats all it does.

I don’t have any other ice cream machines to use as a benchmark but it’s hard to think a 30 machine could get such a simple operation wrong.

Golden Review Award: 65 From Our UsersWe bought this on the strength of the vast number of good Amazon reviews and those we found elsewhere on the Internet. Having used it, we now see why so many people write glowingly of this little machine. It is easy to use, not too noisy, easy to clean, and makes top tasting ice cream very quickly.

We were about to buy the refrigerated version of the Cuisinart but decided we don’t eat enough ice cream to justify the cost. Had we the money, I think I’d have still gone down that route as it would save a bit of time what with the need to pre-freeze the bowl and cool down the mixture before freezing. This does mean a bit of extra planning but we do keep the bowl permanently in our freezer so it’s always at the ready.

Compared with our older Magimix ice-cream maker, the ice cream from the Cuisinart is softer and easier to scoop, even straight from the freezer. This also means that the machine itself is easier to clean as the ice cream scrapes easily from the sides of the freezer bowl.

Golden Review Award: 40 From Our UsersMy machine was delivered yesterday a day earlier than expected. I popped the churning bowl into the freezer after reading the instruction booklet late last night. This morning I made a custard/base into which I steeped a bunch of fresh mint from my garden. Popped the custard into the fridge and about an hour ago took it out, assembled the ice cream maker and poured the mix in. After 20 mins of churning I added some dark chocolate chips – and 10 minutes later; hey presto! the best mint choc chip ice cream ever. Best ice cream maker I ever owned. Found a permanent space in my storage freezer for the churning bowl as I expect to use the ice cream maker often. Great buy.

Superb, straightforward ice cream maker A+

Golden Review Award: 49 From Our UsersI’ve only used this once so far but comparing it to one of those generic Aldi/Lidl ones I can see this one is very good.

The generic model I had was OK, certainly has downsides but by far the biggest issue I had was the capacity. No sooner had I made some ice cream, than it was gone again!
it got me searching for what other options were out there and this Cuisineart one seemed to fit the bill.

The big difference that I notice after using it, is that it churns properly!
I’m not sure if it’s because the bowl turns around a stationary paddle, instead of turning the paddle in a bowl but it seems to cope much better with the churning as the mix gets thicker.
It was even still mixing well as it spilled out the top a little (due to me maybe adding a bit too much)

The way the motor is contained, sealed, in the base instead of being part of the lid means that it is easier to clean up and less damaging with no fear of getting water in the motor.

I do feel, it could be a bit quieter and there’s not many products that deserve a full 5* hence 1* less.

Golden Review Award: 64 From Our UsersFairly good. Not certain what I was expecting but pleasantly surprised.

    Things I’ve noted:

Immediately decant all ice cream as soon as made – otherwise remainder will freeze solid on the edges and base (have broken a heavy duty plastic spoon so far).
Using ‘Sugarly’ 70g instead of 230g granulated sugar gives a better taste in the standard vanilla recipe.
Heavy double cream is better than double cream.
Jersey full fat milk tastes a little bit nicer than standard full fat.
The ice cream straight from the machine will melt very quickly. Putting it in the freezer for too long will set it like rock. Haven’t yet experimented to try and create soft scoop. Closest texture-wise is a ‘McFlurry’.
This is an expensive treat – you can’t really beat store bought ice cream on price but you have a better product which doesn’t taste artificial.
Kids really love making this, good family activity.
    Noisy.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI think this ice cream maker is quite good for the price. It has a decent sized bowl and is quite simple to use. The ice cream tastes nice ( I use a vanilla pod as well as vanilla extract). It’s good because you know what ingredients go into it, no preservatives etc. The only issue I have is it really does make soft serve ice cream and starts to melt straight away so you have to put it in a tub and freeze it for several hours to firm it up.
