A Sit-Stand Workstation Can Transform the Way You Work

A growing problem in the workplace, and even at home, is the stark rise in inactivity over recent years. Modern conveniences contribute to this; for instance, using transport, escalators or elevators means that we walk much less than we used to. This is not to mention the facility to shop online; with a few clicks of a mouse, anything you want to buy is delivered to you, which conveniently saves you the trouble of having to walk to the shops to buy what you need. Whilst these everyday conveniences are great at making mundane tasks easier to do, they also encourage us to be lazier and move much less than ever before.

One of the most significant contributors to our increase in inactivity is how many of us are now working behind a desk of some sort. Many jobs are becoming more office-based, with employees sat behind a computer screen for hours-on-end with no incentive to get up and move.

Sitting at work more than seven hours a day can greatly affect your health. Many people struggle being sat at an office desk for this long length of time, it often leaves them feeling lethargic, achy and stiff. If you are not seated properly, with a good posture, then the effects of poor seated posture can also result in long-term health problems with the neck and spine.

It can become an issue for employers too; if employees work in a sedentary state, they can become less productive throughout the day when early tiredness kicks in, which results in loss of concentration and focus.

Using an adjustable sit-stand desk can do wonders for your health; it can increase your energy levels, burn calories, promote a better quality of sleep, improve blood circulation and even muscle tone. It can also improve glucose and insulin levels. In the workplace, a standing desk can benefit you in a lot of ways too. Studies show that employees will experience higher levels of concentration, vigilance and accuracy which can only be a good thing for their working performance. Compared to their fellow seated employees they were better at decision making, had better judgement and problem-solving skills. The advantage of an adjustable desk is that you can choose to alternate between sitting and standing, meaning you will always be able to find a comfortable position to work in no matter what mood you are in.

This whole remote working thing is great. Love it to bits. However, the sitting on my backside for 8 hours solidly without the need to walk around an office to make a brew, have a chat or skive in the loo means I was getting stiff as a board. A colleague suggested a standing desk and given my normal desk was fine, I decided to look for a converter.

It was much bigger than I expected (which just shows you really should check out dimensions) but fits my desk perfectly. Easy to setup and lifts and lowers my monitor perfectly. It does make a bit of a clunk when it gets back down again but I can cope with that. It took a little longer to get used to the keyboard tray being higher than the desk meaning my keyboard was raised by 2 inches when the desk was down – however after 30 minutes of getting used to it, all is good.

So highly recommended and now when on a remote call, my camera is on top of my monitor and looking straight at me rather than looking up revealing my many myriad of chins. Now with the straight-on view it makes me look less like the overweight middle aged idiot that I am.

I sit down far too much during the week, so as a result I have really tight hamstrings which wreaks havoc with my running and other exercise. I had the option to buy this motorised version or the identical non-motorised version. I have a fairly heavy setup but the motor still copes with it.

Some people might be wondering what size of monitors they can get away with on this unit if they have two monitors like me. Well my monitors are 28″. I would say that’s about as big as you can go really unless you are okay with also investing in some separate monitor arms.

Fantastic product really. I only regret not having ordered on years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why oh why oh why did I not buy one of these before now??

might be somewhat biased but paying nearly half the normal price from the market place made this a great purchase. son needed a standing desk solution and this was a really good size allowing for a large 34inch superwide monitor and other little peripherals as well as the keyboard/mouse all to be raised or lowered at the touch of a button. the build quality is very good and while the motors are not quiet they seem robust and hoping it lasts.

Installed in minutes and feels like a robust piece of kit. I also bought the optional bracket for the monitors which work really well. Perhaps a bit industrial looking but it’s a workspace not a spa. Good length on the power cable.

    Easy to install, great value

Working from home for 12 hours a day sitting at desk was making much of my body ache. I now switch between working sitting and standing regularly and this has really helped. I was worried how sturdy it would be but I also added a Duronic dual arm to it and have 2 27″ monitors attached and everything glides up and down smoothly. Whilst fairly big, it has improved my working area and giving me the freedom to move around whilst on video conferences. Highly recommended if you sit at a desk for many hours.

Very sturdy, easy to assemble and use, moves up and down at the press of a button, after one week of use my back pain / sciatica has improved massively. I now stand up for half of my day. I have the large electric version and it is a great size for a lap top, separate screen and camera with space for key board / notebook

    Back saver!

Ordered the Electric version after reading lots of really good reviews. Opened up the package and followed instructions however it turned out that the buttons to move the desk up and down were missing, even though the associated wiring/plug was provided with the desk.
That being said, customer service acted quickly to provide a replacement. Feels very sturdy, really good product and ample space for 2 screens. Advise double-checking the length of your desk, especially if you have a shorter desk, otherwise this is going to hang over and might be awkward.

Hit my 40’s now and after years to having some back trouble (ever so slightly) I thought I better invest in a standing desk. Checked around and the prices are extortionante for a full blown desk that rises. I sit on my desk for more hours then I care to mention, thats was even before lockdown. Anyway, this little beuty popped up and after the examination of the price by my wife and the fact I mentioned “health benefits” she gave me the seal of approval to spend 200 on the electric version of this.

First of all the desk is heavy! Luckly I do some weight lifting so it was not too bad but cubersome to hold – so I suggest two people. I have been using it for a few weeks now and the only “problem” (if I can call it that) I have is the size of the thing – as in thats a positive and negative. My existing desk is basically gone and replaced with this beast. Its so long that it goes over my desk (my desk is 60cm in width) and thats the problem – when you raise it and you put a bit of weight on it then it hangs forward and you think the whole thing will fall. Although it has not and its very sturdy. However just in case I bought some CT1 glue and glued the end feet to the desk plus added some 2KG weights on either side and that has completly stopped the hanging effect.

I have my heavy laptopn and monitor on it. I used to have a stand for the monitor but bought a moitor extender arm so its easy to free up space on the desk and move up and down when in various positions.

The electric bottons are brilliant – you just touch them and they do their job. You can see from the photos the extention of the desk that goes over it. I also bought a standing mat as if your on hard flooring then you need that. Lastly, I have added my sockets to the back of this beast and its hidden away so no poblem there.

Conclusion – should have bought it ages ago and I am typing this standing up!

Should have got this years ago

Great quality, price and delivery. It just does what it says it does – simple.
No complaints whatsoever. And Help Desk was very efficient when i asked a question.
Probably the best investment I made for my office this year.
Following a back injury, multiple fractured vertebrae I could not sit for quite a few months, so I got this desk as a temporary solution. Now, I would not go back to sitting at a normal desk.
Highly recommend this product for posture, health, productivity and pitch when talking to people on the phone or via video link.
You do not need to break your back or your bank to buy this desk !

This is a very sturdy (read heavy!) desk, solid in construction. I’ve been using it for a week and am thrilled with it. I actually feel better after standing for a few hours than sitting and my posture is MUCH better. At the end of the work day I find myself less tired than before.
The desk works really well, I love the electric mechanism, although be careful – the slightest touch activates it! The user guide warns against cable pinch, I have tied my monitor cables with the provided cable ties and they stay well away from the support bars. I have two monitors on the desk, one is a 4K monitor 69cm wide, the other is smaller at 48cm wide. The are both angled slightly towards the centre and it works well.
I do find the monitor height more comfortable for standing than for sitting, and am experimenting with raising the height of my chair a little to compensate for the increase in “flat height” when at the lowest setting.

So far, every bit feels solid and functional. The electric motor doesn’t just do the job quietly and well, but I am very impressed with the soft touch buttons: which literally do not depress but, instead, they activate on contact with your fingers. The keyboard surface has the right balance of smoothness and slight texture so that it’s not shiny nor too slick, and the optical mouse receptors pick up movement better than off a mouse matt (and the mouse slides better). I only wish that the board for the keyboard/mouse were adjustable to enable the surface to go lower in relation to the desk and monitors, but I wouldn’t let this drop a star. Perhaps it is best that the bracket holding the keyboard surface is solid and sturdy and at its designed height (one wouldn’t want flexibility or rickety slack between the parts). My desk is L shaped with a deeper width closer to the L bend. So the narrower end a the top of my L (620mm) is less than the total width of the foot-print of this desk-riser (700mm including the extra foot bracket), but I don’t think this compromises the stability of the entire rig.

I started working from home dirng COVID outbreak and got this to ease MSK issues at home. I use a sit/stand desk at work. THe product came quickly in very good packaging. It was quick to get set up and now I use it every day. This product does not raise a normal des as high as a full offie sit/stand so beware tall people. I don’t think you’d want this if you are over 6ft.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI ordered this as a half measure to convert my desk into a standing desk. I’m fairly happy with it and I’m glad for the electric motor, but there’s a few drawbacks and one in particular which they don’t highlight in their description.

It was hard to judge the size – I went for the biggest available and it works for my setup, but I would have benefited from putting more effort into measuring my desk, I think I could have managed a smaller model. That said – I have 2x laptops and floating monitor attached with plenty of room for my 4x port KVM switch.

The buttons are chrome-like ‘touch’ buttons which are not labled, but as there is only up and down, it’s not a big deal.

When I first set it up – I thought I had done so incorrectly – but it appears that keyboard shelf does not go all the way down flush against your desk – there is about a half an inch gap. Not a deal breaker but worth considering and looking at other brands if you want something that sits flush. I really think they should be a bit more upfront about this- or fix the design – clearly they’re using generic parts, but they could easily ship with longer brackets.

On first test of the electric hydraulics, it is quite strong and holds the desk firm at full height. However, I had to push it to get it to collapse again – the hydraulic arm seemed to get stuck. After I setup my rig I realised this was to counter the weight of a laptop and monitor, so it goes down without needing the nudge.

That said, the other quirk is that the desk when lowered seems to complete it’s travel before the hydraulic is complete – this just adds to the feeling that the parts are not specifically measured – it’s odd that the hydraulic motion would continue but the keyboard comes to rest an inch above the table surface.

Other than the feel of the design elements that don’t sit flush, the build quality is quite sturdy, has no problem holding and I don’t feel any movement or wobbliness after a month of use. I was debating over 3 or 4 stars, decided to go with 4 because it’s not a bad product.

Sturdy and works as intended - a few minor drawbacks to be aware of

Ordered 2 but I’ve not used them for any length of time myself. Assembly was OK, they are quite heavy so better if 2 people available to lift into place etc. The users seem quite happy with them up to now.
