I have a strip of garden just the perfect size for this down the side of my house. I already have some membrane down but I think due to people walking on the stones I put on top of it I now have weed growing up through it! So I added this membrane on top of the other one and added the stones back on and it seems so much more sturdier now. And feeling the difference between the two I have you can tell this is a better quality membrane and should last a good while longer.
Overall for the price I can recommend this product.

I dont know why i havent used this before!
over the winter my big raised beds were full of weeds, i sorted them out and put this down with the new plants and worked it around some existing plants, was easy to use, easy to cut but strong so it doesnt tear.
so far so good! i have high hopes that i wont have to weed them again!

Only just laid this out so, as the title says, ‘time will tell’.
Easy to cut and covered the area well. I fastened it in place with tent pegs as I wanted to an overlap.
Frayed edges are easy to seal with either tape or heat.

Homesecret 105gsm HD Landscape fabric 1x10m – good quality landscaping fabric at a reasonable price. Other reviews have marked this fabric down because of a tendency to fray at the edges: in my experience, all fabrics of this type and price range tend to do this and this product exhibited it too but, if handled correctly, this was minimal and once down and top covering in place, does not get any worse. This is a good, heavy duty landscape cover that I have topped with a layer of bark, and expect it to last really well.

Provides good cover but when cut it breaks up and pieces of the membrane float off !

Very good value for money, and it’s working very well, it is quite thick, strong very good quality, my garden in starting to look good, I’m getting stones to put on top. So far not problem at all.

Used many different brands of membrane in the past and will certainly stay with this brand going forward. The membrane feels very high quality; it is thick yet permeable, easy to cut but does not tear and has stopped any regrowth of weeds so far. Easy to lay due to the heavier weight so does not blow about as much as some of the others. Will buy again when completing the restyle of the second part of the back garden.

We have a small gravel border in our garden that needs to be redone so I ordered this weed control membrane to replace what is already there.

The woven fabric is heavy duty at 105gsm and it looks and feels like really good quality. Even though it’s quite heavy weight, it’s really easy to cut to your desired size. I like that it’s a small(ish) pack (1m by 10m) so I won’t have too much wastage and its 1m width makes it easier to cut.

It’s exactly what I was looking for: quality weed control membrane in a perfectly sized pack.

Good quality and easy to cut to size

This comes in a resealable plastic bag, rather than the normal rip-open packaging you would expect. It’s a nice touch and means you can store it back in the bag again neatly if you don’t use it all in one go.

In terms of price, this seems very good. At 10.49 for 1x10m it is roughly the same cost per meter as the heavy-duty apolio membrane Ive previous purchased from Wickes.

It is hard for me to compare the quality between the two, but what I tried was just pulling on the fabric in North/South and East/West directions to see how the web stands up to that pressure.

On the Wickes membrane the weave of the fabric stayed tightly together and even under a lot of force I could only get a tiny bit of stretch (almost none). This applied when pulling in both North/South and East/West directions.

On the homesecret fabric, there is a tiny bit more stretch in the East/West direction, but the North/South direction has a lot more give. I wasn’t able to rip it open, but the material did stretch slightly in that direction and not recover. This led to the weave in that area slightly opening up.

This is still fit for purpose as weed control, but Im not sure about the heavy-duty claim since it seems weaker than similar priced alternatives. It’s probably fine, but just be aware you can buy stronger for the same price.

NB: In terms of fraying at the edges when cut, in my experience they all do this — including the apolio type I mention above.

My front garden after weeding and industrial weed killer placed, i bought a membrane that mainly covered and all over winter kept weeds off, and looking closely still good today.

However, I needed another for my back garden and this membrane is very similar to my first one

Again re sprayed as a top up from the end of last year, then put the membrane down. To keep in place heavy stones, all through the windy days everything has stayed put.

No weeds have grown when checking today, and ready now to sort my garden out before building a Bedouin tent.

Very happy and stood up to harsh weather of late.

Very strong and durable, which is the main thing, stopping those drastic weeds..

I recommend as a decent price

    Thank you to the seller

I hope my review helps you

Weeds — the bane of gardens. We would rather be doing the nice fresh stuff planting, admiring, sitting back and not be looking at a load of weeds or getting rid of them only to frustrating discover they are back shortly after.

This is a really good way to keep unwanted weeds at bay. Our most recent project was around our pond. We decided that it would look good to have nice stones surrounding it and wanted to prevent growth though them.

There was plenty of this membrane for this project and other areas but to minimise waste we carefully laid it out working out how much we would need, This was not just the area at the bottom but also adequate amount up the sides too. ‘Twice measured, once cut’ is a good rule.

We are pleased with the end look and have not had any unwanted growth coming through. Will likely be getting more as we work increasingly in more areas in the garden. Good stuff. That’s going to give us more time to enjoy the garde

Good at preventing weeds coming through

Purchased this as a replacement underlay for my bark bed as the previous one had disintegrated over the years.
This liner seems to be thicker than what I have ever used before but also lightweight which is strange.
So far so good I don’t think you can go wrong with this one!

Very easy to cut and install I have no complaints, very good value for money considering the amount you get!

    This membrane comes as 1m x 10m.
It’s made of a strong plasticky material, not a fabric, which some of the very budget stuff can be made of (and no as strong).
It is porous so will seep through over time, but don’t be alarmed if you get a little pooling initially after heavy rain – it will go quite quickly afterwards.

Not too much else to say at this point, but it’s the same construction as other heavy duty stuff I have which has so far held back the weeds for a season. Definitely better than the fabric stuff some of which I have elsewhere.
Overall at under 10, it’s well priced.

This came at the perfect time as I was just looking to purchase some weed membrane to start getting plants ready for spring. This is thick, good quality, easy to cut and control where you need it and I also bought some pegs separately to pin it down and keep it in place.

This is great to give your plants a chance to thrive and there’s loads of it, nice and thick and easy to use, would happily recommend and i’ve already bought another pack.

This is a 1m by 10m roll of heavy duty weed control membrane for the garden soil. The membrane colour is black and has a thickness of 105gsm.

    Things I liked:
    * good quality membrane (thick and strong)
    * easy to cut (to size)

Overall, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

The piece I received is short of the 1 m wide at 98 cm

    ~ MATERIAL: POLYPROPYLENE
~ COLOUR: BLACK (no green lines!)

I tend to use between rows of fruit or veg to keep the weeds down and retain moisture & heat in the ground.
This is better quality than some others I have tried as it is better sealed at the edges, has fewer imperfections and frays less when cut.

It comes folded in a plastic-type, zip-top bag.
(No fixing pegs are supplied as can be the case with other brands, in my experience.)

This has been a great item to have, having been sorting garden out, we have used this to go under some slabbing in the garden to stop weeds, it’s heavy duty so it’s like it’s built for the job. Very happy!

  21. HershelVinci says:

For the money, this is perfectly okay … but I’d quibble with the term ‘heavy duty’. It isn’t. I’ve used much thicker, heavier weed membrane than this. As demonstrated in the photo, the weave is very uneven and you can actually see daylight through it.

Having said that, I imagine it will exclude enough light to do the job, and in any case you get LOTS of it for your money.

The other drawback of it not being really top quality is that when you cut it (and it cuts with no problem at all) it frays very easily.

Bearing all of that in mind, for the price, it’s really not a bad buy.

Basically good value for money ...

We’re trying to reduce the maintenance in our garden as we get older so weed membranes covered with gravel, ornamental stones, artificial grass etc, particularly in hard to reach areas, is our new favourite thing. All those funny odd corners, bits behind shrubs and next to a fence you can’t quite get to unless you’re a contortionist – dig out, rake out, spread the membrane, cover with stones, and relax. The occasional weed pokes through but that’s all. This is a particularly useful mat as it’s long but not wide, 10 metres by 1 metre, absolutely perfect for the side fence. Good price too, and tough. Very pleased with this.

Homesecret 105 gsm Heavy Duty Weed Control Membrane 1m x 10m

A black woven plastic sheet for multiple garden uses. Can be cut to size and slits can easily be cut into it for planting purposes.

Can be used to cover ground before planting to prevent weed growth and to warm up the soil. Could also be used to discourage weeds from growing around other plants. I have got this to cover an area which is prone to bindweed which I want to remove from the garden.

When I unrolled the membrane there were already a couple of small tears in it. Not too much of an issue, but it did indicate how easy it was to make holes in the material.

Easy to make holes in it.

Excellent quality weed control membrane and a great size of 1m wide x 10m in length for the price of 8.46 at the time of my review. This is far and above the quality of what is already in the garden so as and when we deweed an area this will be replacing the much thinner flat material. Because this is a close knit weave it will hopefully give much better drainage.

I’ve just put some of this down today, and it seems pretty good stuff – much better than the soft non-woven stuff you can get.

This is the same sort of texture as a tarpaulin – though not waterproof. It’s woven together, so once you cut it, you’ll need to seal the edges to prevent it from (eventually) coming apart. It will breathe though.

It is otherwise pretty tough and will definitely prevent weeds growing beneath it.

It feels like it will last a long time, but UV eats plastic, so I’ll have to see.

This weed-proof fabric has a fairly dense weave and good weight to it. I’ve used a lot of different brands of fabric in the last few years at my allotment and while this isn’t the absolute thickest it is certainly very far from some the inferior thinner products I’ve tried. For the price this represents good value for money.
It seems they have treated the edges of this so that it doesn’t immediately start fraying in use however if cut it will gray just like any of the woven fabrics.
I predominantly use weed-proof fabric as a temporary measure over winter to cover the soil and prevent weed growth so there is less work to do in the spring however I’m intending to use this permanently for an enclosed bed I’ve made out of pallets where I grow brassicas. I struggle to keep the weeds down among the plants and so I’m hoping that planting in slits cut through this will make life much easier.

    Good for the price

At 10 x 1m this strong fabric is perfect for me. In the spring/summer my garden transforms from small and dull into a market garden.

I use this sheeting underneath the low plastic greenhouse. It keeps the weeds from growing underneath whilst still allowing the ground to breathe and the air to flow. You’ll need a really sharp pair of scissors to cut this straight and it still frays a bit but, all in all is really good weed inhibitor.

It is really thick material though, the type found around the base of trees sometimes. It has the look and feel of a thin tarpaulin but it’s breathable. The good thing about this stuff is you can walk on it without piercing it too easily providing you are careful.

The little thankyou card inside the package and the promise that the company won’t rest until you are 100% satisfied gives confidence albeit, they must be a new company because I can’t find them on searching.. odd.

10m of fabric at less than a tenner is decent value for money for this type of sheeting in my view.

I will not be using this immediately, but there’s no denying how useful this is. It feels robust, quite thick.

I cannot say if it will fray etc when cutting until I have used it properly – but I have found many have, it’s not something that concerns me too much.

The price of the product at the time of review is 8.46 which seems good value to me.

With the caveat (as with all weed membranes) it’s hard to truly review until it’s been in situ for a while, this gets five stars from me.

Seems good value for money and robust.

I got this to stop weeds coming up on a rustic slab and gravel path, this is ideal as I can roll it out and then place the path onto it and hopefully stop the weeds coming through the gravel. The material is strong and robust although I do feel that any cut edges could fray and will probably build in a little excess so that I can fold the edges over. Overall a good useful product.

This is a good strong weed membrane and there is plenty of it, it is very easy to cut and put in place, my original plan was to double it over but there was no need due to it’s thickness, excellent quality and value for money and an added bonus is the zip lock back it comes in which makes a nice place to keep any excess till you need it, would buy agai

This weed control membrane seems to be of a good quality and at around 10 for 10m x 1m is a decent price as well.

I’ve used several products of this type in recent years, and this definitely feels stronger than the cheap fabric products available from discount stores in the UK. I would use this again.

I was pleased to try this ‘Homesecret 105 gsm Heavy Duty Weed Control Membrane 1m x 10m for Garden, Courtyards, Landscaping and Planting Beds’.

    1. The 105gsm membrane comes folded to a 36cm x 27cm x 4cm size and in a branded clear plastic zip lock type bag, that can be used for storage of any excess.
    2. When opened out it measures 1m x 10m. A perfect size for what I want it for – to go around fruit bushes on the allotment, to cut downs the amount of weeds that constantly grow. This is a great time to put it down before the growing season gets going. I will cover the surface, when in place, with some chipped bark. I have used a similar one under gravel in the garden and so this can easily be used in that situation.
    3. It is well made and the strong woven type that allows water to pass through but not weed growth. It is not the thin fabric type. This one is plain black, whereas some come with a coloured stripe – I think this one will be less obtrusive. The edges are completely straight and not frayed, like some I have had in the past. It is easy to cut to the size you want.
    4. I am very happy with this product and can recommend. I can see that as it is UV stabilised and a quality weed membrane material it will last for a very long time without degrading.
    5. The current price of 9.99 is good value for money, in my opinion.

    A quality weed membrane material.
