I purchased this lock for my son’s bike, and it was clearly an excellent security option as it was thick strong metal links and lock. However, at 15+ lbs it was a little bit too heavy for my son to ride with so I decided to return it. This or the Kryptonite u lock (as a lighter option) would both be great security.

I had no idea how durable this lock would be. Online obviously says it’s the strongest, but man this thing is a beast (in a great way). After using this not sure I could ever trust another lock!

I just had my bike stolen from me and when I got another one I wanted it to be secure. I got the chain and it was heavy and feels really tough. It doesn’t look like you can use any type of bolt cutters for this, the only issue I have with it is the lock not the chain. The lock looks like you can cut through it easier than the chain so I’m not sure how secure it is but Ill definitely intimidated people trying to steal your bike so it gets the job done

The weak link is actually just the trailer. The trailer would have be cut to remove the lick and chain. Heavy duty. I am going to purchase another one for my ATV as well. Worth every penny.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersHaving experienced issues with theft in the past, this lock is used to secure ladders in the back of my tuck. Works great no thefts since installing it. I realized it was big chain and lock when purchasing it but when it came out of the box I was impressed. It is definitely for use with a vehicle or stationary locking point because you sure would not want to carry it on a bicycle.

I use these to store a Polaris General outside at my lake community. I use two of these to secure front and back tires to the frame.

These are super heavy duty and would take a thief quite a while to defeat. I’m sure with enough time and resources, someone could work their way through these (see YouTube) but they’re definitely big enough to scare off the semi/unprepared thief. They won’t make an easy day for them.

The only true 100% theft fix is insurance. This is the next best thing.

I literally can’t tell you how many times I’ve left my apartment in New York to find pieces of my lock scattered on the sidewalk and my bicycle missing. Ain’t happening with this. With this thing, you could lock up a motorcycle and never worry. I will say it’s HEAVY, but it’s a small price to pay for knowing your bike will be there in the morning. I love it.

This chain ain’t no joke. It’s heavy and ridiculously tough. I feel like my stuff is secure. I’m really happy with it. Only complaint the lock mechanism and key… the keys seem a little flimsy and you have to mess with it a bit to get it all the way into the lock.

I’ve been using this lock and chain for a couple of days now and noticed right away that the lock is very “sticky” and hard to open out of the box. After reading through the care instructions I used some graphite lubricant in the lock cylinder and after that it was working smoothly.

I purchased this lock to secure a generator to our building. It is outside and covered, but I wanted it locked down. Thieves came by two different nights. The first night they fiddled with the lock but then left. They came back 2 nights later with 4 foot long bold cutters. The video showed them cranking down on the bolt cutters for nearly 15 minutes. In the end they left. I checked the chain and lock the next morning and the cloth covering was torn up but the chain didn’t even show a scratch from the bold cutters!!! I tell everyone about this lock. It is incredible!

  17. Troy Christian says:

This is a heavy chain (and lock) but it WILL resist bolt cutters (I’ve seen a youtube video of an attempt to cut it)

In my opinion a bit too heavy for a bicycle – but fine for a motorcycle. For a bicycle I would recommend the New York M18 ‘U’ lock. Considerably lighter but about as secure.

It will not withstand an angle grinder for long (no chain or shackle will) but what bike thief is going to crouch down for 3-4 minutes creating a racket as well as a lot of sparks ?

At 5.5kg it’s heavy so if you have a bicycle it needs to go on a pannier rack under bungees, I’m not even sure you could wrap it around the horizontal bar of the frame. In my opinion if your bike is worth in excess of 1,000 it’s worth spending 100+ on a lock and have peace of mind. It will def. go through the rear wheel and frame and around a thick pole and in some cases if the pole is thinner it could go through the rear wheel, frame, front wheel and around the pole, locking all of it.
If it won’t accommodate the front wheel as well, it’s advisable to at least buy a cheaper cable lock as well for the front wheel if you (as I do) hate repeatedly removing the front wheel and risking wheel misalignment.
Putting it on and taking it off is a minor work-out but if you want to actually KEEP your expensive bike you can’t really get more secure.
If you register your lock and your purchase with Kryptonite within one month of purchase, if your bike gets stolen they will compensate you up to 2,000 if the lock was busted open in the process. But you will need to e-mail them proof of lock purchase, proof of bike value (receipt or valuation by bike retailer), and a photo of the bike.
To claim you will need a police report and a photo of the broken lock.

I’ve had the need to lock up things for decades… tools, freight boxes, and even my personal, little bikes. It would take a considerable amount of time and noise to cut this. Plus the warranty is great. You need to load up receipt of your bike/cycle as well as an image of it to register the lock but they will either pay your insurance deductible or pay up to $5k for the unit that was stolen. BUT it’s heavy. Even around your neck it’s pretty cumbersome. But security will not be an issue in a public place, that’s for sure.

Was surprised at how big and heavy this was. Super sturdy. Not for carrying about though. For locking bike up at home.

  22. Mary H.J. Farrell says:

Needed for my area since it’s outside. No issues so far. I wish the chain was longer since I’m wrapping it around a pole. I have my bike pretty close. I understand the length reasoning but it was a hassle in the beginning. I got my system worked out now so I’m good to go. The lock and chain is dropping and hitting the concrete regularly so it’s rather sturdy. I should definitely stop letting it hit the ground so it maintains that sturdiness lol

  23. Wendy says:

This chain and lock is ghee beefiest I have ever seen. My only trouble so far is that my lock got bound up once. The tumblers inside the lock hole got out of alignment and the lock refused to open. I had to carefully take a pick to realign the gates so the key could actuate properly. It has only happened to me once in the month I have owned it, but it was a pretty big scare because cutting the lockor chain would have been unreasonable if the lock had failed internally.

I do not know how much of my lack-of-victimhood is due to the lock, or that I stow my bike inside my apartment and the fact that I don’t frequent many places, however every time I’ve locked my bike up somewhere with this chain (and another loop for the front wheel and seat), all the components have still been present upon my return.

    Take that as you will.

This would be a 4-star review, however an acquaintance of mine spoke highly of the assurance of recompense that Kryptonite offers, having experienced it herself. I have, therefore, added a 5th star on her behalf.

I ride a keyless Tomos moped with locking forks, still, 2 men could just pick it up, throw it in the back of a pickup truck and be gone to drill that fork lock key hole. Now they don’t even bother after they see this beast. The only downfall is I top out at 40mph but when I have the Kryptonite with me I top out at 38mph she’s a heavy beast but I love her…almost as much as I love my moped. I highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had the U lock mini fagethaboudid thing, it didn t have any marks of thieves for 2 years but i thought just to make sure the thieves would skip my bike i added this one as well, i have the long one and it covers both wheels, i was curious about this because i use the metric system so i didn t know how long it was but i was happy to see it can lock both wheels and the frame as well. very heavy to carry though (what do you expect)
i had a bike stolen because i had 2 locks like the cheap one you see on the front wheel so more locks is always a good idea, but only if they re reliable

This is ridiculously thick and good at preventing theft. It does weigh quite a bit though. I would love to see a thief working on this chain and getting frustrated.

I think it’s intended for locking motorcycles but really anything could be locked up by this.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersSolid, heavy, beyond the scope for most even large bolt cutters. Small downside: the chain does not fit through itself, so it can only be locked with a lock that has a large shackle that fits two links (like the included lock). It would be nice if there was an oversized end link like on the NY noose, or if at least a link could go inside another one so you could use the chain with a tighter padlock like the abus 86/55 or simila

This is good for locking up ebikes. Because of its weight, it is not ideal for carrying around with bicycle.

It DOES require maintenance. You need to add the lube specifically designed for jammed locks every once in a while. After 3 months of using, the lock started to get very hard to pull out. After adding WD40 designed for locks, it seems to be fine. Assuming this is unavoidable, I would give it 5 stars.

Just bought this. Can’t say how durable or safe it is test, but it’s of superb manufacturing quality. The lock is solid and well made. The chain is made of 1/2″ thick steel. Weighs a ton. Great for our purpose of locking a motorcycle when parked. No thief is going to be able to cut through this steel.

I don’t use it as a bike lock but I do use it to lock my yeti coolers. I do a lot of camping and tailgating and so far so good. Hardcore thickness and the quality appears to be on the extreme side. Some people have said it’s too excessive to lock coolers but for what they cost, why not. And I simply don’t trust the yeti branded lock that feels like a shoe string compared to the kryptonite.

It is impossible to affix to a bike for transport. You need a bag or basket to transport this lock without a huge headache.

I laughed out loud when I opened the box. IT IS BIG & HEAVY. This is not a chain you will take with you on a ride, but it is the pinnacle of bicycle security. You will sleep soundly with this chain/lock on your bike. We use it to lock 2 bikes to each other and to a 4″ bike rack in a high theft area. (Each bike is also locked independently to the rack with Kryptonite New York U locks.) Well worth the price.

I don’t mind lugging this chain around as I ride but I feel much better locking my bike up in the city. I’ve left my bike outside overnight with it and I came back to see it where I left it locked up. I’ve had other bike locks crap out on me from the key breaking in the lock to the tumblers not tumbling. With the former, a cable lock, I popped off in 3 seconds with bolt cutters.
Every component from the links, the lock, and the key are all solid and aren’t likely to fail you, barring extinction level events. Also, I believe Kryptonite insures your bike for a significant sum if your bike does get nicked while using their products.

Wow. What a lock! I paid really good money for my bike and needed a lock that I could trust to keep my bike safe while I was at work. This is the lock. I couldn’t tell from the picture how amazingly thick the links in the chain were, but this thing is a *beast*! The u-lock is as smooth as silk and very solid when locked. This is a great chain. The only issue is the weight of the chain on the bike – but you can’t have security with heft.

I use the long version of it to lock a timbersled (cross between a motocross bike and a snowmobile) to the bed of my truck, in which I haul this toy. The lock works great, even in extreme cold and I’m really happy with the sheath that protects whatever you have from the lock’s chain. I just wish the chain came in even longer versions. And, not sure whether there is an option to buy two locks with one chain, but that would be nice to have.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThe 5 footer is enough to lock a motorcycle to itself. I weave the chain through the center stand and frame of my bike and lock both ends to the rear sprocket. Would have loved this to have a noose link on one end so i could lock to posts and such easier. Or possibly snare the front tire as well when nothing else is around.

If you plan to take this chain with you, you better have saddle bags. I wouldn’t want to stuff it in a back pack. The chain alone is 15-20lbs and wearing it bandolier style for more than half a mile will put a wicked kink in your back. I’ve managed to fold it up into my Joe Rocket Manta tank bag but that’s all that will fit when I do.

Awesome product. Arrived ahead of schedule, as pictured. Bought because I previously had my braided and sheathed 0.5 inch cable clipped off of the u-lock and had my bike stolen. This should be enough to deter most thieves from YOUR bike and send them somewhere else. People have reported difficulty with the locking mechanism. I haven’t experienced this at all – but I’d say if you did have any issues just get over it and use a different U-lock. After all it’s the chain that I really needed from this thing. It’s a total monster!

I use this to lock up my 05 GSXR 600 at my apartment. I also use Kryptonite’s disk lock with a Dowcow motorcycle cover to creat layers of security.

Also register your key or keys (if you have another Kryptonite product) on their website in case you lose a key. They will send you a replacement for a $10-$15 cost (around there). Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis chain is so tough.. I don’t think it would be easily cut on the street. The only problem is that it is extremely HEAVY so it is probably best used for home parking.

It does come with a warranty of up to $5000 I believe which is perfect, just make sure you are not already covered by any other insurance before signing up since they will make you use the other insurance first. The cost of insurance is free for the first one year and around $30 to extend it to 5 years. It will only be covered it seems if the chain/lock were cut somehow.

My only complaint is that I wish it was a tad longer. Since I am using it with the Kryptonite Ground Anchor I always struggle with it a bit to cover both the rear wheel and the frame.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIf you have never seen this item in person (like me) you are going to be quite surprised when you open the heavy box from Amazon. This lock from Kryptonite is by far the most massive, the most incredible chain/lock I have ever seen. Comically overkill for my simple purpose of locking up a scooter but I look forward to putting it to use. Carrying this beast while riding could definitely be a challenge. I believe that I’ll try wearing it “Rambo-style” like a bandoleer of machine gun ammo off of my shoulder, (diagonally across my body) or in a backpack with thick padded straps. Those would probably be the best options.

All I can say is “good luck” to the guy who tries to steal my scooter. Bring your “A-game” and some power tools because that’s what will be needed to steal my Ruckus!

In my opinion this in one of the best chains out there. The only issue (which I expected coming in) was the weight. This thing weighs at least 15 lbs so I would not recommend it if you need to carry it around. I got it because I needed something that would allow me to strap my bike to a large pillar and this (barely) did the trick. The only thing I wish was that it was available in 7′, that would have been the perfect size; as this was just barely long enough for my needs. If you need something that you can carry around, I would recommend a U-Lock; but if you need something that can wrap around a pillar and you don’t need to move it much if at all, this should do well for that.

Golden Review Award: 29 From Our UsersThis chain and lock was the only protection between over three thousand dollars of bicycles and a bike thief with a pair of bolt cutters. The end result was the attached photo- there were a few cuts to the plastic coating without any real damage to the lock itself. The bikes were left unharmed.

A neighbor who had locked up his bikes with a simple cable lock wasn’t so lucky.

This lock is extremely heavy and it can damage the paint job to your bike if you’re not careful. Other than those caveats, this is perfect for garages in high theft areas.

It's worth it just to frustrate thieves.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWow – this is quite some lock! Its a pretty intimidating beast, and quite heavy too (as one would expect)… but then again, I wanted something that would dissuade any potential thief, and this would very likely do just that. I’m not sure I’d want to cycle any significant distance with it around my shoulder, mind you, but its certainly do-able (I’m 6′, and when I carry it around a shoulder and under the other arm, the lock rests just above my waist). Expensive… but a lot cheaper than replacing a bike and/or forking out on the house insurance.

I dropped this chain and it cut through the ground like a hot knife through butter. I’ve heard it’s somewhere in India at this point.

In all seriousness though, this chain isn’t screwing around. I have complete trust that any petty thief is gonna pass my bike up for my coworker’s Suzuki Gladius when I have this thing on.
Even when I do drop it on the ground the gravel/pavement doesn’t even scratch the chains. That’s how hard they are. The lock feels very sturdy, but if anything’s gonna give way, it’s gonna be the lock. That isn’t to say it’s bad, I think it’s top notch.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersThis chain can definitely protect you from thieves… as well as tanks and artillery. This thing is a beast! I think this chain would work best with my motorcycle rather than my bicycle. This chain is much bigger than I expected and barely fits between the spokes on my bicycle wheels. Its also quite unwieldy and troublesome to use with something so lightweight. If you are looking for a great chain to lock your motorcycle, then this is for you. Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersYou get what you pay for. This is a quality, heavy duty chain lock for your motorcycle. Probably overkill for a bicycle. I use it to chain my motorcycle to a pillar to prevent theft. It does the job and I like that it comes with the $1250 motorsports insurance guarantee included for a year. Lock has a nice feature where it has a plastic tab that slides over the key hole to prevent corrosion or dust to damage the lock. Only gripe is that it is not long enough. Should be 72″ long ideally to fit around larger posts.

If anyone steals what you lock up with this, move on and buy a new one. The definitely deserve it. Once you pull this bad boy out the box the world will stop spinning. Weather a storm, Hurricane, tsunami, volcanic activity, a girlfriend nagging, or even death (grim reaper) come your way, pull this behemoth out and all things cease. Not even the man above could part the sky for his second coming if you chain it up with this. To sum it all up you don’t even have to lock up anything with this lock, just leave it next to whatever you trying to protect and that will be sufficient. It’s that intimidating.

Hi guys, well here I am, making a review of this moster chain-lock. First at all, I chose to buy this because other people gave to this articule good reviews, now I am the guy doing the same, when I got this moster delivered at home, I started to do the same as the guys in past reviews told me to do, first, weight, is incredible heavy, I could kill whoever is gonna steal my motorcycle with that, the second thing that I noticed was appearence, is any thift is close to my bike the first thing that they will notice is how robust and well made is this chain, it scare anyone just with that, and the third and most important feature for me, is his guaranty, it said could assume up to $ 3000 in the case that someone open the lock, tha’t is amazing to me! I’m not looking to get any guaranty because my motorcycle cost me more, but at least it has it!

This feels like the lock for me. High crime area and lots of bolt-cutter sliced cables and smashed locks. That drove me to the scale of this chain. It is HEAVY, so not easily portable. But it is solid. Massively so. I hope I don’t have to report on ill effects.

I love this lock!! I built myself a motorized bicycle kit for easy commute to my college campus. I really didn’t want anyone to steal my new ride, so I did some research and stumbled across this beast. I absolutely love the looks I get when I pull this monster out of my backpack, with the medieval metal clinking sound and all. It’s extremely heavy at 15.5 pounds, so if you’re using this for a purely pedal-powered bike, I would consider a lighter option. However, if necessary, this lock will do the trick. I can’t see anyone breaking any of these links anytime soon.

This chain just shows heavy duty when you it, it is so big it broke the box during shipment this chain is extremely intimidating if you were to be a thief.I always put in my head if your a the if and want it, then you’ll will get it. I’m going to be using this for my quad I’m using this as well as a disloc break from kryptonite. But also I am getting insurance. It’s very cheap and it just protects your property if somebody were to be able to get it. I am being very optimistic for this chain. I do recommend it. BTW if someone is looking for a bike lock it is a very good chain just don’t get the 5 ft chain its way to heavy.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI have recently purchased this chain & lock and as soon as i took it out of the box i felt as if i got the right one.
It is heavy, solid & easy to lock, unlock. The chain looks treated and Stands out as a serious deterrent.
The key has a nice bright blue light that helps in unlit areas at night.
Now i thought about maybe giving 3-4 stars but i concluded that the lock itself imo is definitely worth 5 stars so i have given 5 stars.

The reason why I considered 3-5 stars is because I ordered this item from koo bikes and it took so long to arrive i contemplated sending it back.
It had passed the cut off delivery date. Totally unacceptable. I was very annoyed.

So my advice is if you want a solid chain and lock to keep your bike safe, I recommend this one.
As for ordering it from koo bikes, fahgettaboudit.

First of all, this chain is effectively unbreakable by all the the most well-equipped bicycle thief. That being said there are a number of small issues that buyers should be aware of:

1: It is very heavy. I believe the weight is about 5.5 kg, making it pretty heavy to move around. This also makes it a hassle to actually lock your bike up, as it’s not all that easy to get through your spokes and frame. I carry it around with me as I refuse to be a victim of theft, but smaller people might struggle with the bulkiness.
2: Not all the chain links are covered with fabric. This has already resulted in a number of nasty chips in the paintwork of my new mountain bike. Not that it matters a whole heap, but users be careful when locking and unlocking the chain.
3: The lock on mine is a little finicky, even though I’ve only owned it for about a week. Hopefully it’s not symptomatic of more problems to come, I certainly don’t want to have to buy an angle grinder to free my bike if the lock goes belly-up.

Aside from those, the lock is all but good. Most bike thefts are crimes of opportunity, and no opportunistic thief is gonna spend the time trying to get through this lock.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersAfter the attempted theft of my bikes I decided to up the security level. Although the previous measures were successful in preventing the theft I opted for this mother of all chains for it’s deterrent factor. I’m hoping that anyone taking a look at it will just walk away. There’s no stopping the determined and prepared thief, but by making the theft hard work you hope to at least deter the opportunist thief. It’s like being chased by a bear. You don’t need to outrun the bear, just the other people you are with.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis thing is heavy and strong like the Hulk or Spongebob’s anchor arms! I purchased this to keep my baby Vespa safe at night under a covered parking space at my apartment complex. Since then, I’ve watched hundreds of felons and fiends break their arms and spirits attempting to break through this thing. So far, it seems to be hand proof, teeth proof, kick proof, scissor proof, windproof, sword proof, as well as proof proof. My scooter has been stolen a total of 0 times since purchasing this beauty.

The only downside is that it’s so strong and bulky that it is hard on my fragile body when lift it into locking position. I can curl about 300 lbs but this thing strains my man-muscles. The keys it comes with are a pleasant touch. For real though, I don’t think there’s a better lock out there.

This chain and lock appear to be made with security in mind and appear very strong. Is it foolproof? I doubt it, it’s almost impossible to completely secure something without spending millions and even then there’s probably a hole. But my idea is that it would slow a thief long enough that my alarm would kick in and notify the local authorities. I doubt that any thief wants to stick around with a high decibel alarm telling anyone within ear shot that something is amiss and that it is likely the police are on the way. So for me it is another solid link in a chain of security. It does what I want.

Got the longer length for the flexibility. Already have the 3 footer and love the extra 2 feet and weight. Definitely not the commuter security lock you put in your backpack. Home or car or camping. A deterrant. Nothing is theft proof. Figured it will slow them down. Enough cable locks out there for a thief and hopefully pass this one by. Would need a portable battery powered metal grinder. Use in Shed threaded through a 35 lb kettle bell. The old ball and chain approach. And the nylon sleeve is great for protecting the finish of your bike…or whatever else you want to secure. And then a Kryptonite NY Ulock. Redundancy. Lube the lock and shackle every few months. Mine works great.

Really very impressive as a motorcycle lock. I drive a sports bike in a college city thats not known for motorcycle theft but oh well, you can’t be too careful. This motorcycle lock gives me complete peace of mind at night. I highly recommend getting the 5′ lock for motorcycle unless you have easy access. Also if you have a spot in the swingarm, a swingarm brace, that would be ideal or someone could still steal your bike by taking off the tires (unlikely, but still). This chain is quality and will last for years. Don’t cheap out on protecting your bike. Kryptonite offers up to 1250 i believe in insurance if your bike is stolen while using this lock which will help recuperate some of the cost if it does happen. But overall, I’m extremely satisfied with this lock.

Got this to secure my bikes in the shed, the hole thing is big a heavy and would make anyone looking to take to think again. Think it is a home lock rather than one you would carry due to the size and weight. Think if you spend allot on a bike then this is the lock you need and this was the best price I could find.

I bought this to lock up my dual sport bike at home. I received the 14 mm chain and 15 mm lock and use the chain in combination with a ABU’s disc lock and motorcycle cover. The chain is intimidating to look at, which is the whole point, as the idiot contemplating stealing it would probably move over to something easier. I got the 5 feet version, so I can wrap the chain around a street light, small tree, etc. and still be able lock the rear wheel. Only gripe is that the chain is extremely heavy and best left at home or other fixed parking place.

The lock itself can double as a stand-alone disc lock. Very solid and colored yellow to act as a visual deterrent.

Living in the city you need a bike lock that you know will make thieves think twice before trying to steal your bike. This lock definitely does that. I don’t know how many times thieves have tried to steal my bike but I have come outside and seen that the chain has been messed with overnight. So far I still have my bike.

As other’s have mentioned it is very heavy. That is the point. This is not the tiny little cable lock that you will keep in your pocket as you ride your bike to grandma’s house in the suburbs knowing that no one would ever consider touching another person’s belongings. This is the wu-tang clan of bike locks. This will protect your neck and let other’s know that you ain’t nothing to F with.

    Highly recommended.

Very stout lock, weighs half as much as my mountain bike. Laser cut keys are a bit sharp on the edges. LED in one key is blue (that’s neat). Lots of wiggle room when inserting the keys.

Can confirm what other reviewers have said about no tactile feedback or audible ‘click’ when locked. Bottom line: Don’t be in a hurry when locking your bike; double or triple-check the lock before leaving and you’ll be fine.

Also, I tested all 3 keys repeatedly (15-20 times each) to ensure smooth operation of each key. For the money this lock costs you’d expect a more fluid key insertion / locking / removal process. Again, take your time when locking, making sure to insert the key completely before turning (you can turn the key with it only partially inserted).

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am using this for my 49cc scooter, so it’s probably overkill for my situation. But whatever you decide to lock down with this device is not going anywhere, anytime soon. It certain does its job as advertised. The only downside for me is that it weighs a ton and takes up a lot of room under my seat, but it seems like a small price to pay for 100% assurance that my scooter would probably be the last thing still parked in just about any situation that doesn’t involve a Sawzall!!

Bought this chain for my CBR because I have to leave it out front of work for up to 8 3/4 hours at a time and we don’t have a secure parking garage. I just run the chain through the back wheel and through a bike rack. Major pain in the behind to carry around, but I feel a lot more comfortable leaving the bike outside work for long periods of time because this thing is indestructible. Just the sight of the chain alone would be enough to deter most thieves from even trying to take your bike. The chain is enormous, and the lock is clearly made to take a beating. The five foot length allows for a lot of options when finding a place to lock your bike. It gets used up quickly because of how big the chain links are, but for me it has been more than enough length. I say if the area you live in is questionable, then this is a must have because it would be extremely difficult to remove this chain with anything other than the key.

I have rated this lock and chain the highest possible because, well, nobody will evef just walk away with my Scooterretti ! This lock was quite a bit overkill compared to what I thought I was ordering. However, I am quite happy it is because I know that when anyone who may have thought they could just walk away with my Scooterretti will not even attempt it once they see the look of this lock and chain ! I highly recommend this lock to anyone who wants to go to bed not having to think there may be a possibility the item they have locked might not be there when they wake up ! Whether you have a bike, scooter, motorcycle, lawn tractor, boat motor and trailer or whatever else you need to keep secured, This is the answer !

After hearing too many stories from other Harley owners that their unsecured bikes had been stolen, I bought this chain and lock at the Honolulu dealership where I bought my 2014 Harley Sportster Iron XL883N for $200. When my boyfriend later bought his Harley Forty Eight from the same dealership, we decided to be smart and buy it from Amazon for only $130 and free standard shipping to Hawaii. He received it in only 3 days. Whether for $200 or $130, this lock and chain set is awesome and keeps our Harleys well secured. The chains are heavy and probably discourage the thieves of opportunity with one glance. When we take our bikes to work, we leave the chain behind and just use the disc lock on our wheels and secure the bikes’ forks. The price is worth our peace of mind that when we go out to wherever we locked up our bikes, they will still be there. Happy with this product and highly recommended.

I love how strong and heavy this thing is.I would def buy again. The lock scares off thieves just from looks alone. a bike was park right next to mine in front of my building.they thieves didnt even try with my bike once they so the lock and stole the other bike.I saw the video of the theft. My only issue is that the lock key doesnt want to open at times and thats scary, since this lock is strong as it gets but I feel secure with this lock and chain on.i would have given it 5 stars if it wasnt because of the issue opening the lock.

This chain is absolutely massive! I have used it mostly at my apartment to lock it to my patio but I have taken it with me to work to lock it outside. It is 15 pounds but I knew this when I bought it and I’m very pleased with how well it has worked. When I take it with me it fits in my Topeak MTX Trunk Bag DXP Bicycle Trunk Bag with Rigid Molded Panels just fine.

    UPDATE: 3/18/16
My lock jammed and the key would only turn 90 degrees. I tried some teflon based lubricant (Don’t use WD-40) but it didn’t help. Luckily Kryptonite sent me a new one and didn’t even ask for a a return. It was quite annoying because it took them an average of 1 week to reply to each email while they troubleshooted the issue but I can’t complain too much because they gave me a new one. The mechanism of the new one seems sturdier than the original I bought in 2012 because it has no play when pulling on the 2 pieces of the lock so I suspect that it’s been updated.
