Good little fan , my 3d printers e3d hermera stock fan was loud whilst cooling so was looking for a replacement and took gamble on this , wow what a difference , extremely quite no noise at all i can’t here it working . Also cools the heartbreak really well running hotend around 260c .
Is pricey but it’s premium quality !!

Inaudible when inside the case along with other fans. Extremely well built. Perfect fit for an LSI SAS card if you are using it in a tower with no airflow over the sas heatsink (you can mount it with 2x3mm bolts).
Very happy with this purchace and will buy again if i need any more of this size.

Worth the price - superior to most if not all alternatives

These were used specifically for my ender 3 V2, they work like a charm and arm super quiet but they are quiet for a reason, the don’t push that much air but I know they will be reliable and that’s a plus in my book! The only thing I find silly is the price, I feel they shouldn’t be as much as they are, it’s more of a brand name your payih for there which is why I only give them 4 stars

    Pricey but good

I bought this to replace the noisy and failing hotend fan on my Creality Ender 3 Max 3D printer. The original started making noise after only a couple of months, I tweaked it a bit and it went away, but came back a month or so later, so after enduring the noise and rattling for a few more months I decided to replace it.
Finding a decent, quiet and reliable fan is hard; I originally thought about just getting the Creality replacemment, but thought that would probably just last as long as the original. All the other 40x40x10 fans other than the Noctua’s seemed to have a lot of bad reviews, so given that Noctuas larger PC fans have a good reputation, I decided to go for this one.
I had read that people were concerned that being a low noise fan it wouldn’t push enough air, but I haven’t found this to be the case, and feeling the air flow it was at least putting out more air than my noisy fan that was still managing to keep things cool. After fitting this fan I have tested the temperature of the heatsink on the hot end and it hovers around 30 degrees C which is more than acceptable. I have made several long prints and there are no signs of cooling problems, and I hope that the extra cost yields good reliability that will pay off in the long run.
Of course, this is a 12v fan and the old one was a 24v fan, but the heatsink fan on the E3Max is on continuously so I was able to use a small 24v-12v buck converter to reduce the voltage to 12v so as not to overload the fan.

Atrociously expensive for a tiny 5v fan. The luxurious gift box easily costs 1/3 of the price we end up paying, something that goes straight to the bin after the fan is installed.

Be wary that in order to achieve the lowest noise levels you have to use the included rubber screws/pins as any touch of the fan with a metal surface using the metal screws easily doubles or triples the emitted noise levels!

I recently acquired a Netgear switch that had seen some use, and the fans that were in the unit when I got it were loud and screamy. The person who I’d bought it from suggested these fans as a replacement, and I am not disappointed with my purchase.

It’s been a few months since I installed the fans, and they’re still running as quiet as day one.

I really like the quick-join accessories that were included. I forget the exact name, but you simple place two wires you would like to join and then snap it closed with pliers – it has a secure connection and seals itself – very convenient.

I replaced the fan on my 3d printer with this. It works fine… bit quiter than the OEM on the printer.
I liked the dampping screws, well… they aren’t really screws, but, they seem to work so fine! much better than screws, easier to install, damp the vibrations! really cool. I liked it allot!
Noctua is so cool giving all of these things in the box, just a great company.

Works really good with my 3D printer cools down the extrude

Used it to cool my battery while charging, very quiet, very low power usage, easily cools my battery area down to 13c. Removing the fan it warms up to 22c, removing the heat pump it goes up to 47.

Fantastic little fans. These come with a variety of little extras, such as the low noise adapter and anti-vibration attachment stems. Have now attached a total of 6 (with buck converters to run them at 12V) on two of my Ender 3 3D printers, they’re incredibly versatile and feel premium – worlds beyond the standard fans that typically ship with a 3D printer.

Bought this to provide some airflow over a DIY heatsink I installed onto an M.2 drive. Its very small and very powerful for its size, and does a great job. It reduced the temperature of the M.2 drive by about 5 degrees Centigrade. its very quiet and the build quality and extras that come in the pack for the money are exceptional. Quality and value. My second Noctua fan and not my last.

This NF-A4x20 3pin fan is simply superb.

I’m not using it in a PC but as a very much quieter additional fan in a set-top box to stir the air past the very hot jungle chip and the hard drive whenever the 12V line to the hard drive is awake. The box as a whole can easily lose the heat of these two devices.

The included adaptor leads allow me to run it at a lower speed, saving power and again less noise.

The supplied kit of bits is very useful, allowing a lot of flexibility in mounting and connecting.

Fitted to the hot end of an Ender 3 Pro with a buck converter to reduce the voltage from 24V to 12V. Keeps the temperature just right and has reduced the fan noise by around 50%: well worth doing.
Easy to fit and secures with the printers screws, however, the fan came with other fitting options and a range of different wires for a multitude of connections.
I am very pleased I went fir this fan and recommend it fir the low noise level.

Yes! what you see on that picture is this fan attached to a 10G NIC with zipties!
They are barely audible if at all from outside of the case, and this ugly solution reduced the 85C toasty temperatures to below 40C.

They are so good and cute, I want to buy a lot more and do “things” with them.

    So good, almost alien tech

Used to replace the three turbo jet engine fans in my switch and I ain’t disappointed. These draw in some good air flow whilst remaining quiet doing it. I’ve always like noctua products and this sure lives up to the quality.

Hikvision default fan was so loud that i could hear it upstairs in bed. Noctua fan was easy to install for an amateur like me. I used the rubber mounts instead of the screws (a must!) from 49-50db measured with an iPhone on top of the Dvr, down to 40-41db. A noticeable difference as I can barely hear it when I leave the room, let alone upstairs. Well worth it for peace in the house

I have an old barebones PC, which always had a fairly noisy fan. It begun to fail in a very loud way, and having used Noctua cooling on my desktop thought this would be a good option.

I was not mistaken. You need to stand right next to the thing now to hear the fan at all. It’s almost entirely silent. Cooling is of the same level as before. Keeping the CPU temperature at around 50c.

    Pricey but quality!

Bought as part of a silent upgrade to my Ender 3 V2 printer. Retail box is overkill, variety of cables is overkill. Maybe checkout the lowercost grey fans they sell as I used one of them on another printer.

If you want this for a 3D Printer upgrade note that the Airflow mass spec of the 5v and 12v versions are the same so just get whichever one is cheaper and in stock and adjust the Buck Convertor accordingly.

But this still is a very good fan letting me run a printer near the lounge without annoying everyone.

Having gone through 2 “cheap and cheerful” fans on my 3D printer I was getting fed up with the prospect of continuing poor reliability and nosy fans. I bought this Noctua fan, fitted it and boy, is is a world apart form the general rubbish on sale. Well engineered with decent bearings and sound (pun intended) aerodynamics which make it virtually silent. The box came with 2 extension leads and a 3-2 wire reducer so no soldering or fiddling about just plug and play. Wish I had made the conversion ages ago.

    Long story short:
Can’t say how impressed I am with the quietness of this fan.
I placed this fan on top of the RAM sticks, so it blows cold air between the RAM sticks, thus lowering their high temperatures.

There was no need to adjust the speed of this fan because even at MAX. speed (5000RPM) – it does not make noise.

    Pros:
    Silent
Focused airflow (meaning straight air path for better dissipation)
Superior build quality / Top notch materials
Many different cables, anti-vibration mounts to fit your needs

    Cons:
    none
I will update if I find anything on continuous use.

I would recommend this product without reservation to anyone looking for a high-quality fan.
    Definitely recommended!

    Fast and Furious but Silent!

Do the job of keeping the RPi cool – very quietly. Easy to fit with the AV mounting kit supplied. A bit expensive but worth it, has a quality feel to it, although the price could probably be reduced if the amount of packaging was optimised as it was a bit over the top in my view.

These are the same fans that PRUSA sell, but a different colour and the ones from PRUSA have a longer lead, so you’ll need to get the soldering iron out and extend the wiring to fit, a 5min job.

Fans. The modern world would grind to a halt without them yet they’re rarely noticed unless they fail. If you want to completely forget about your fan, buy a Noctua NF fan, quite possibly the best that’s available. Each fan (NF range) comes packaged with all the accessories that you could wish for and in my experience outperforms other brands in every area. Quieter, higher airflow, longer lasting. Each fan comes with a 6 year warranty and a minimum 150,000 hrs lifetime, that’s about 17 years. I’ve never had one fail. Noctua fans are outstanding.

  40. Joanna Sciarrino says:

Don’t normally write reviews but hopefully this may help someone. Yes the fans are expensive but the quality is excellent and a 6 year guarantee gives some hope that I won’t have to revisit this job for some time. I acquired a 48 port Netgear GS748TP Switch on eBay for a great price. The problem was it sounded like a Jet Fighter and was totally unusable for a home office environment. I saw sets of replacement fans from US sellers on eBay at a crazy price including shipping but wasn’t sold on the potential build quality and/or reliability of these Chinese branded overpriced parts. Long story short, after coming up short researching fan requirements for my specific switch, I stripped back the switch and discovered 3x 4020 fans and 2x 4010 fans all running at 12v. Having read a few reports on other switches where people were having trouble getting the Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX fans to work, I decided to take the plunge and order 5x Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX fans. You have to change the pin wiring on these to match the Netgear Red|Blue|Black pin heading so this means changing the Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX fan headings from Black|Red|Yellow to Red|Yellow|Black. This is easy with a small flat headed screwdriver to unlatch them. Once done they spin up beautifully and the noise difference is night and day! Admittedly the airflow throughput isn’t anywhere near what the is was with the original fans but this switch is never going to be stretched so for me the compromise to achieve something so quiet (not really audible from 2m away) is well worth it. NB: The only caveat to all this is that fan error warning light on the switch stays lit but this doesn’t affect the fans running. If you can live with the additional light then this is a worthwhile mod for a home setup. Will definitely look to use Noctua fans on any future builds/upgrades.

  41. LynneShepherdso says:

This fan was expected to easily be loud to very loud by standards of quiet computing, and it turned out it is. It can’t be quiet at 5000 rpms. However, it serves very well when placed in front of hot components such as low profile video cards and can GREATLY reduce the temperatures, which then helps to reduce their fan speeds. The two voltage cables are convenient and can be used to reduce fan voltage from 12 to 9V or 7V, or combined for even less (not recommended by Noctua). Overall, the product deserves 3/5 stars but gets 4/5 due to lack of competition.

As the title says, this is an incredible little fan, the amount of air it can move is astonishing!
It is very near to silent too!
I used it to replace a rather obnoxious RGB fan on my Raspberry Pi 4b+ that made a considerable amount of noise in comparison and moved a lot less air and was about 30-40% less effective at cooling than this one!

I would highly recommend this fan for anyone wanting a fan to cool their raspberry pi’s or for any other small space or object that needs good cooling!

This isn’t the thinnest or cheapest fan but for a few quid extra, it is the one most recommended for the nano. It works nicely with the nano’s PWM output and just plugs straight in. The wide variety of mounting hardware and connection cables/adapters probably all add to the price, which is a shame, as none are useful with the nano. I found I had to use my own nuts and bolts to connect the fan to the heatsink.
Undoubtedly this is a quality item, does the job admirably and should work with most of the Jason nano cases I have seen.

Amazing fan, has significantly quietened my wanhao duplicator i3+. The kit includes everything you need to plug it directly into your printer, but for neatness I trimmed the wires down, clipped the yellow wire off (for pwm – not needed on most printers), and re-crimped it to plug in directly to the hotend via a step-down voltage converter. It does move less air than the standard fan, so I’m running it at 14 Volts, and it remains silent whilst pushing more air than the stock fan.

I purchased one of these and two 10mm Noctua fans to try to add cooling to a 5 Bay NAS which only had an exhaust fan, which would generate a lot of heat in summer and remembering the space inside the chassis was extremely limited I opted to buy this as I discovered a unused 4pin PWM connector hidden on the motherboard. This fan I mounted inside the case, behind the 5 ethernet ports to vent air out along with the 90mm exhaust fan and I have to say, it has been great. It is connected to the same PWM header as the 90mm fan and when run at low, medium and high this fan is still only slightly more audible than the 90mm 3700+ RPM fan, granted with is tiny and deeper and has to spin faster, but it has worked wonders.

Used to reduce the noise level in my USG-4 Pro as it’s in a home environment.

Very well made and did the job perfectly. I used the ultra low noise adapters included and they’re almost inaudible but still nice enough air to cool effectively.

My only gripe would be the price which I think could probably come down if they didn’t include so much fancy packaging and materials. They’re only fans for Pete’s sake and by colouring them beige and brown you’re kinda p*ssing in the wind from the start really.

  54. Viet Do says:

I purchased it to upgrade my 3D printer.

Quality is without question. Just very polished.
As for the work – in the box you will find a cable with a 100 Ohm resistor for lowering the RPM, but I recommend that you do not use it.
Without it, the fan runs very quietly. And with it, unfortunately, the air pressure drops below what it is intended for. For me, that was the temperature float limit.

Perfect workmanship, and the pressure oil bearing is much better than those cheap Chinese brass bushings that need to be lubricated every couple of months because they are really buzzing.

You have a dilemma – pay once and get it right, or replace Chinese with another Chinese in six months …
Your choice. I successively replace everything for silent ones. And I have peace at home, because my wife does not complain anymore;)

Bought 3 to replace aging fans in a Netgear GS724TP POE switch which were REALLY noisy. The size and shape are identical to the original fans so mechanically very easy to fit. The pinout is different, but thanks to the connectors used on this fan, it’s easy to swap then around, just use a very small screwdriver to release the locking tab on the connector pin and slide out. Once all installed the noise is probably less than a quarter of the original.

The packaging and supplied accessories are excellent with mounting and cable adapters, plus a couple of different inline resistors to slow the fans in case you need them even quieter.

These fans are pricey, but they seem like quality items which is worth the extra when installing in a network switch.

As other have also written, used these fans to replace those in my Ubiquiti USG Pro4 which has annoyed me since I bought it due to the high pitched whine from the fans. Had tried numerous things including sound deadening within the rack, but was still able to hear it throughout the house.
I may have been able to make them even quieter with the low noise adaptor, but was slightly concerned that it may struggle under high workloads.
Part of the reason why these fans work so well is that the noise pitch is much lower making it more of a whisper than a whine. It’s a shame that the firewall manufacturer did not think to place a higher quality fan in such an expensive device in the first place, but I am happy to get the issue fixed at a relatively low price

I’ve got several of these fans to augment the cooling for Odroid and Raspberry Pi 4 devices.

As you’d expect, the fans run extremely quietly while still moving good air volume. They are effectively silent in my experience.

The included mounting system is also excellent and easily modified if required.

Overall I highly recommend these fans. They aren’t cheap and the packaging is a little much, but superb nonetheless.

Excellent packaging – excellent product – noise levels improved off the scale – really good accessory kit with it and cables – would buy again without hesitation. Used as a hot end cooling fan with improved performance. Cannot faul

I mean, what can I say. Those who are considering this know why these are good fans.
I’ve used mine on a 3d printer, the printer became whisper silent and now is printing all day all week not bothering anyone while sitting next to i

Premium packaging and more accessories than I needed.
The fan is great, super quiet.
I’m using it to replace the standard hotend fan on Creality Ender3 (needs a voltage converter though – I used one of these: search Amazon for the code B01GJ0SC2C)

Used the fan to replace some noisy Aruba Switch fans, and I had to check twice to make sure the fans were actually spinning.

Packaging comes with all sort of accessories, Screws, Extensions, etc.

Temperature on Switch is matching vendor fans.

Too much packaging and, to be honest, the amount of ‘optional’ stuff it comes with that I didn’t need was quite disappointing, but this seems to be the only way to purchase the fan, which was the part I needed. So for my use case its actually overpriced AND overspecced . Having said that, I really like the fan, it does everything I need (a very quiet 12v PWM to fit in a 1U)

Bought this to replace a silly loud fan on a COM7 board and it was like night and day. Even at max speed the fan is significantly less noisy than the previous fan was at the lowest speed the board could set it to. At around 3-4000rpm it’s almost entirely inaudible inside a well fitting case.

As you’d expect given the price it comes with a good selection of extension cables and alternative fixing methods.

Noise from smaller fans in particular can be extremely annoying and I can’t see myself ever buying another brand if it’s for a systems running in the same room as myself.

Although I really like these fans and they are quiet I feel like they have far too much packaging and come with too many accessories.
They should offer the fan with two purchase options, one being just the bare fan with no fancy box and many adapters. This would probably make the fan 40% cheaper.

This product is great – I was anticipating installing the inline resistor, but this is so quiet that there really is no need.
It’s installed in an Atari Falcon 030 (which sits directly in front of you, so any noise is very, very obvious) and the factory fan was droney (as they all are). The first replacement was a generic 40mm, which was clearly designed for a server PSU and deafening 🙂 This noctua comes in a (somewhat excessive) amount of presentation packaging that makes it feel like a gift box. It includes a great range of accessories and instructions, some rubber mounts instead of screws and, perhaps most importantly, Noctua’s well regarded fan design – it flows less than the server monster that was installed, but more than the factory fan, for so little noise that I had to visually check it was running. I would highly recommend this to any retro computer enthusiast looking to quieten down some of these older machines – the mod is easily reversible, but massively improves usability.

I don’t often leave reviews, but I felt I needed to this time. This HAS to be the best purchase I’m ever made when it comes to fans. Used these fans to replace the seriously noisy fans on USG Pro, OMG they run so quiet it’s unbelievable, even the Mrs noticed, now that deserves 5 stars in itself!

Fantastic replacement fan for Reolink NVR. Included fan is very noisy. This is easy to fit using 2 pin adapter and inline adapter to reduce speed. Well packaged. Excellent included instructions and labelled adapters. Fitted in 10 minutes. Thoroughly recommend.

Bought the fan for my 3d printer to silence it while still delivering good airflow. It does all the things advertised. Comes with a ton of accessories and in premium packaging.

Super silent, great airflow currently using on Creality Ender 3 Pro and have two on a Dual E3D V6 AM8. The packaging on these are ridiculously lush. Supplied with numerous connections, however if using on a 3D printer you will probably need to cut some wires and add your own connections. Either JST-XH 2.54 or Dupont 2.54 what ever works best for your printer.

Used to replace a very noisy psu fan and is now virtually silent. The number of options for connectors is excellent and even in none of those are any good then the little connectors to splice into other wires are genius

They’re ugly as all hell but they do the job well!

    Really quiet too

I’ve got it ziptied to an LSI RAID card in my NAS – it took a bit of fine tuning in the BIOS to get the fan curve just right but it’s dead quiet and has a decent enough CFM (level of airflow) that it keeps the the RAID controller running icy cool

Purchased two of these to fit a vesa mounted mini itx cased pc, as the original fans sounded like a jet airplane readying for takeoff…

I have one powered via the psu’s constant 12v fan header. The other is powered via the motherboards bios controlled case fan header and varies from 30-100% depending on the load and internal temp reading. Even with one at 100% 5000rpm give or take… the noise generated is at a reasonable level for me. The one at 30% I have to be afew inches away to hear it!

Its an old fanless D525MW motherboard and idles around 40C and hits 49C under load so not to bad I don’t think especially considering it only has the 2 Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX fans pulling air through the case!

Price reflects the fact its a complete kit with a quality Noctua fan Included…

Highly Recommended and will be using them again without hesitation!!

This is a great fan. Swapped out the stock fan on my MiSTEr FPGA IO board setup and the difference is night and day. Silence. The canle was too long for my needs and I had to trim it down and resolder the connected to fit it in my case.

Also worth mentioning the excellent hi-q packaging that comes with a variety of cables and fixers. Really good stuff and worth the bit extra.

Not as quiet as I would have wished but that’s mainly due to how I’ve mounted it. Works very well at keeping heatsinked CPU temps down even under high workloads. Has a good range of power adaptors and I even like the beigeness of it. Bit expensive for a 40mm x 10mm fan.

Replaced the original fan with this product on a Linksys 24 port system which was very noisy. The difference is amazing and extremely quiet. So much so that when I pre tested the fan without fully mounting it I thought it wasn’t working. It was only on the second time of connecting the fan after some checks I noticed it was actually spinning. Why you would use the optional noise suppression connectors it comes with and sacrifice fan speed in the process seems erroneous but perhaps in some uses this is needed. In terms of noise it’s not needed as it’s super quiet. Well packaged and clear instructions on how to install and if needed alter the config re noise suppression. Loved it.
