Make sure your car have CarPlay before using
Received this CarPlay kit to review and love it.
First of all, make sure your car is CarPlay ready (plug your iPhone to car via usb data cable, if a message pops up in the phone to connect CarPlay, you have your answer).
It was very easy to install (it takes minutes to do), and in doubt, you can request installation videos via Amazon email.
One thing to mention is that the quality of the cable is very important for the connection, as some cables do not transfer data (they only charge the iPhone).
It can stay in the car, and as soon as you arrive at the car, it will connect with your phone, via Bluetooth (avoiding using cables).
Overall, if you hate cables and having to use the cable every time you drive your car and want to use CarPlay, this device is great and for a decent price.
Solid wireless Carplay adapte
If you are really keen to have your iPhone connect to Carplay in your car, this little box from Ottocast does the job pretty well. It’s small, light and easy to set-up. Plug the device into a UB port in your car and then connect your phone to the Ottocast via Bluetooth. This all worked for me first time in my ’21 Hyundai Tucson with my iPhone 11.
The phone connection takes a little while (on average around 20-30 seconds once configured) but it works automatically so that every time you get into the car your phone should connect. What you will then see in your car is a version of Carplay on the Ottocast device itself, so for me it was different to the version built-in to my vehicle: I didn’t get song names pop up on the main dashboard display and the Carplay screen itself had a different layout to it.
There is also a little bit of a delay between pressing icons on the car screen and the action being performed by your phone. It all works but the look and feel is a a bit different.
For convenience, you can’t go far wrong. It just works and maintains a reliable connection. However overall performance may not be as good as what your car has built-in and possibly the fact that the Ottocast is running a different version of Carplay may be an issue.
The cost at 109 seems to be sitting in around the middle of the wireless adapter market so this may be worth considering if you are looking for such a device.
Great for short journeys
I found this to be very simple to use. I simply connected my unit to the USB port of the car and was able to and connect to Bluetooth with ease through my iPhone. After turning the car off and later returning, when I started it up I was able to reconnect immediately.
If your car is equipped with wireless charging as standard, you can use CarPlay wirelessly by simply placing the iPhone there. Happily, there is no issue with using other apps on your phone such as maps while also using the music app or radio. Impressive little device!
Wireless Carplay
My car supports CarPlay, but only wired connection is supported. When I connected this unit to the USB port of the car and searched for Bluetooth on the iPhone. I was able to find it immediately and connect.
Once I turned off the engine and got out of the car a while later I got in the car and started the engine, I was able to resume the reconnection music immediately.
My car is equipped with wireless charging as standard, so I can use CarPlay wirelessly by simply placing the iPhone there.
Music app and Radio works without problems in the background while displaying Google map.
There are almost no problems with the stability of music, but there were occasions when it was like skipping the music. But not a big problem.
Good product!
So glad I changed to Ottocas
I’m very satisfied with the Ottocast wireless CarPlay adapter.
I had problems with Carlinkit 3 device not being compatible with iPhone. (Error message that accessory not supported every time I got in car). Thankfully I was able to return to Amazon for refund.
Decided to try this Ottocast and it set up more quickly than the other brand and reconnects quickly (around 30 seconds) each time I get in the car. So much better than having to plug phone in every time. So glad I changed to Ottocast.
Bluetooth to CarPlay
Excellent product takes about 13 seconds for iPhone to connect CarPlay wireless. I generally just leave my phone in pocket now.
Carplay as it should be - wireless
I’ve been using this device for 2 months now and I’m really pleased it. The device itself is small and unobtrusive, sitting in the ashtray in the centre console. It works as described. We have 4 phones in the family and when the car starts you can choose to search for a new phone or select any of the existing paired phones. Once selected, it launches carplay on that phone and goes into the standard screen to access media, maps etc.
If you need to change phones, you pull out the USB wait 2 seconds and re-insert, at this point you can select a different phone as described above. I’ve not had the disconnection issue mentioned by others, and have done a couple of 2 hour plus drives using the device.
There is no drop in quality, its equally responsive as if the phone is plugged directly into the car and you can now choose if you need to charge your phone (from a different USB) or whether you want to leave it in your pocket.
Overall it’s a great addition to carplay, and makes carplay more accessible for me. I would recommend this device if you also don’t always need to charge your phone and/or if you have multiple phones and want to be able to select which phone to connect to the cars audio systems.
Does the job well and worth the money
I got this shortly after part of my car audio system was acting up, this is a good way to bypass the connection problem. It’s not quite as seamless as the original system but it has saved several hundred pounds in repair costs.
The initial setup was easy enough, there was a minor problem with the old system but I turned those bits off in the car menu and it connected as a normal BT/Wifi device. Initial bootup when powering the car on can take some time, but no longer than about 20 seconds. It sometimes locks up and loses connection, this seems a bit random but it’s only for about 30 secs and it’s back again. This happens maybe once every few hours.
I am using this with an old iPhone and it works perfectly fine. There is a firmware update available so get that for improved stability and functions. 5Ghz-band wifi is used.
The build quality is reasonable, although obviously it’s not going to be as good as your phone.
For functionality and price I can say this is a good device that is just about worth the asking price.
Simply plug and play. First time setup takes a minute but then it’s smooth sailing.
Great little wireless CarPlay adapter. Makes it so much convenient to use CarPlay. Works really well, initial setup takes a minute but then it auto connects going forward. The connection time is pretty quick and it’s pretty much ready to go by the time I’m ready to start driving.
Works great with my EV, no more fiddling around with cables.
I used this with my Hyundai Kona EV and it worked great. One of the features I wish my car came with was Wireless CarPlay but at the time it was still a relatively rare feature. I literally hoped something like this would come on the market for years and they finally did. They’ve been getting better and better over time and really easy way to add wireless CarPlay to your existing wired CarPlay setup. The first time you use it, you have to pair your phone to the adapter, but after that it auto connects every time and works brilliantly.
It’s still not perfect though as you get a small amount of audio lag (not a big deal) and it may crash every now and then, though this is very rare occurrence and mainly happens in summer. The adapter is tiny and easy to tuck away, I also purchased a separate right angle USB cable as it let me angle my adapter a bit better in the the compartment where the USB port is.
Best money spent!
This is great, connects automatically when I get in my car and straight to Apple car play, no more wires which is exactly what I wanted, really easy to install. I got some strong double sided sticking tape and tucked it away where it can’t be seen. Best money I have spent, highly recommend it. Will be getting my husband one.
Good little uni
Fails to connect intermittently, but not the worst issue it can have. When connected works very well. Unit small enough to hide away in a cubby box. Would recommend
Easy as pie
So easy to set up pug in set the Bluetooth on phone join and your done . As long as you’re Bluetooth on when getting back in the car it finds it straight away . No problem at the moment only time will tell .
Easy to install!
Easy to install!
Qualitative and works excellent!
Great value for money!
Recommended it!
Overall fills the gap in the marke
I wouldn’t be without CarPlay but I must admit before even being aware of devices like this, having to always have my phone plugged into my car did irritate me about it. Enter the OTTOCAST wireless adapter! What I will say is that this is super simple to connect: it really is as easy as plugging in and connecting cos Bluetooth. Plus, once connected, it does automatically connect every time I get into my car – huge bonus! This works well and does exactly what it needs to: mirrors CarPlay without need for a wire. You can use it the same, either use CarPlay or your phone to change music, opens maps, etc. I have found after using for the last few months that there is a slight lag, e.g. when changing songs the song starts but it still shows the previous song but this really is a matter of seconds. There are also the few occasions when it stops playing music, but again, this is a matter of seconds, so really does not bother me. That said, for this price point, which is in my opinion high, I’d like to see these minor issues resolved.
The reason I wanted this is so that I can use CarPlay without being plugged in (obviously); meaning anyone in the car or van can have their music, etc. on (not just those I’m the front seats which is good for the kids!) and because I don’t always want to charge my phone when using CarPlay. That said, I would also like the option of switching from wired to wireless or even using a wireless charger with this device. You can plus a USB charge into the device and use this to changes your phone but it won’t then allow you to connect to CarPlay either wirelessly or wired (as far as I can work out).
A few issues that may likely be resolved in future devices but overall a good product and does full a gap in the market.
Works really well.
I love this wireless carplay adapter for my car. Sure, it’s not really a big deal plugging your phone into the car in order to use carplay but it’s even better when you don’t have to and you just start the car up and your music plays and google maps is on the screen ready to direct you. I had been eyeing up an adapter for a while but had been put off by the price, but I really like it and I hope that I will be using it for years to come, which would make it good value for money. The only issue that I had with this is that it didn’t connect very well to my car but what you need to do is push the cable into the adaptor until there is a small click and then it is in properly. I had to push harder than I would expect so keep that in mind. It’s small enough to sit easily in my car and be tucked out of the way so that it can’t be seen from outside the car. If you are after a wireless carplay adapter then I would definitely recommend this one.
Pricey but Worth I
This handy piece of kit works exactly as it’s designed to, turning wired CarPlay networks into wireless ones. Essentially, it acts as a conduit between your iPhone and your car’s display screen. The Ottocast is ready to go straight out of the box. Initial setup is a quick three-step process. After that, as long as the Ottocast remains plugged in, it works automatically whenever you start your vehicle. It’s a versatile little piece of kit with many useful functions. My only criticism is that it doesn’t come with a holder that could be stuck down in place and into which the Ottocast could then be slotted to prevent it moving around while the vehicle is in motion. That’s a minor niggle, though, and one that can be overcome through a bit of Blue Peter-style DIY construction. For future incarnations of the Ottocast, a moulded stick-down holder would be a welcome extra.
The Ottocast is a pricey wee gadget but it’s worth its weight in gold to anyone who spends a lot of time behind the wheel. Five stars without any hesitation.
Wireless CarPlay dongle
I ordered this for my brother in law, as this device is compatible with his car and I thought this might be a funky, modern gadget for him. I asked for a few pointers which he has given me below.
Upon opening the box this looks a ‘cool’ gadget to have in your car. It’s worth noting that it’s only suitable for carplay enabled cars, basically where you can plug your phone via your car USB socket.
Great little gadget, very simple and easy to use, takes around 5 seconds to load each time you start your car. Did take long on the first go, but that wasn’t outside of what’s expected.
Appears to be live from the phone- I particularly like this as previous devices I have used have had a delay on loading times. This device appears to have solved this problem.
Personally using it for music- although there’s a variety of things it could be used for.
I asked my brother in law if he would have paid the 120 price tag, to which he said he probably wouldn’t have as it’s quite pricey for what it does. However, upon researching this does seem to be in the price range of what to expect for this sort of item (it’s not something I’ve looked into before as my own car isn’t compatible).
Overall, this is great for any technology/gadget lovers who just want to add a little extra luxury in their existing car. Happy to recommend.
Really easy to connect and use
I own a 2017 Skoda Kodiaq and whilst the car has all the bells and whistles, the one thing I missed was wireless connection to Apple CarPlay. I can still achieve this by using a cable between my iPhone and the car’s music console but who likes long cables running through their dashboard. In comes the OTTOCAST wireless CarPlay adapter.
It is not ‘tiny’ as the manufacturer claims but is definitely small and light. I think it measures around 8cm long, 4.5cm wide and a little less then 2cm deep. Weighs a bit over 100gm.
The user manual is useless but anyone who has worked with Bluetooth devices should find the installation process straightforward and intuitive. Use the provided cable and plug the USB C-type socket into the device. Now connect the other end of the USB-A type plug into the car’s dash. If you car has a USB-C type inlet, then there is an adapter provided with the device.
Once the plugging is over, start the car’s engine (at least I had to) and let the infotainment system load. The car will then automatically detect the device and ask you to connect (see attached photo). Once you press connect, you will then have to search for your phone’s Bluetooth (see attached photo). Hit the search button, and pair with your phone. Lo and behold, your phone’s CarPlay will now display on the car’s infotainment system. There are few videos on YouTube if you prefer visual instructions.
I have been using this device for about 4 weeks now and have not noticed any issues. The only problem I have is that I prefer Skoda’s native navigation app as opposed to Google Maps or Apple Maps but that is not this device’s fault.
Overall, a smart little nifty device if you prefer wireless CarPlay.
Do read through the product page carefully as there are certain restrictions to use this device.
Hope you found this review helpful.
Quite handy
Ottocast wireless USB adapter.
I was sent this in return for my honest opinion on it.
I was quite intrigued to try this being as we always use the wired carplay version when in my mum’s car. This is designed for the cars that have the Apple CarPlay function, giving you a wireless connection from your phone, so you’re only attached to a small little wireless adapter box instead.
Initial thoughts on opening the box are, the wireless adapter is a nice design, it feels robust and durable. You have the USB-C side and the USB-A side the opposite end. You have the 18cm long USB-C cable and a small USB-A to USB-C dongle, of which you can use for firmware updates etc. You do get a short instruction booklet too.
When you first set this up to your car, it’s not a long thing but no where near as fast as when connecting for each time there after, as your car will search for it automatically each time, which is quite good and shortens your time length to get driving.
It’s simple enough to set up, it’s pretty much plug it into your cars USB port, search for nearby Bluetooth devices from your phone, pair and connect, grant permissions etc.
You then have your cars dashboard, set up as your phone, where you can access some of the apps, obviously not all will be usable. These are all clearly displayed via the dashboard. Other than when scrolling through screens, there was a slight lag, which isn’t the worst but it was noticable, I found these all easy to access, quick to tap and pick up etc.
You can access your music, or music apps. Whilst this does work fairly well you do have a slight lag when skipping tracks, other than that it all worked quite good.
You can use your phones navigation as opposed to your cars navigation, which I thought was good. The better part about the navigation system, is that is has a sort of estimated back up system, so if you lose connection, even though this does/will reconnect quickly, the navigation will try and estimate the rest of your route, I’m not going to pretend I understand fully how this works but in general I thought it sounded good.
I did find out that you can access advanced settings for this also, I didn’t actually have a chance to look further into this but I found that you can help with the lag issue, if you choose to do this, you will be taking a better lag over better connection, I didn’t really want to risk messing this up so I didn’t attempt to access or change anything.
The connection stays pretty solid, if you do nip out the car quickly though, it will disconnect from your phone.
Overall, I think it’s a clever little device, handy for those with iphones/ipads. I would recommend it. It’s good to have as opposed to the wires, it looks tidier, works quite well for a wireless device.
Great idea but…
After reading some reviews about the various products that provide wireless CarPlay I opted for this one.
With the few weeks of ownership I have noticed some common themes that others have reported about the problems they have experienced for example after a few hours of continuous use it disconnects and I have experienced it freezing and to rectify this I had to disconnect by removing it from the USB port.
The UI is green which is the screen prior to the screen booting to the main CarPlay screen. It takes around 30 seconds to become usable.
This product is idea for short journeys providing you already have wired CarPlay, this device is only for Apple. For longer journeys you may need to hook up to wired CarPlay to ensure you have decent battery when you arrive at your destination.
Overall a great idea, small, easy to use and set up. Idea for short journeys so you don’t need to keep connecting your phone to have CarPlay.
Improves the manufacturers original carplay mode
I ordered this wireless carplay adapter for my Nissin X-Trail.
Arrived in a black seal box, says wireless USB adapter. I had to open to make sure I had Ottocast Carplay adapter I had ordered.
So straight forward to setup. Firstly ensure you have carplay feature in car, once this is confirmed it is just plug an play. Only compatible with I Phone.
Turn on Bluetooth and WIFI on I Phone, turn on Carplay and pair ottocast wireless unit using lead provided to car once complete connect to phone by Bluetooth.
Works exactly same current carplay features, excellent dongle providing 5G WIFI. Very fast with excellent connectivity.
No hassle, sleek and compact wireless adapter that ensures I remain safe and wireless free when using my I phone in car.
Overall, Carplay dongle is not cheap but it improves the manufacturers original carplay mode 100% that I can’t believe it has not been built in to original system. Benefits out weigh cost and instant connectively is a necessity and comes as second nature to you.
I would recommend this product.
xactly like wired carplay
This is the version that Ottocast calls the 2.0 and as far as I know it is the newest version. It uses 5ghz wifi to connect from your phone to your stereo and activates the Carplay. It takes 20-30 seconds to get a connection and then it works perfectly. I have this on VW CC head unit and it works great.
I purchased what was listed on Amazon as last version. It worked pretty well.
This has been a great purchase. It very rarely has a connection problem, but will sometimes buffer or have a hiccup, but honestly it is a lot less than I had with it as a wired connection. I would definitely purchase this again. The convenience of just getting in the Jeep and not having to remember to plug in my phone and find a safe place for it is really great. Once you do the initial setup (about a minute), it just works and you don’t have to do anything. 100% recommend.
Fantastic bit of ki
Fantastic bit of kit for the price. If you’ve had CarPlay before then go without it can feel like a big downgrade, this can bridge that gap. It works as well as my standard CarPlay feature, with no compromise on any features. On occasion it can feel a tad behind on touch but honestly it’s the same in my other car as standard.
A great quality unit that does what’s expected, a good option to dealer prices.
Works well in my Discovery 5 (2017)
Works as described. Now my iphone seamlessly connects to CarPlay over Bluetooth. Would recommend!
Easy to use but expensive CarPlay dongle
CarPlay is a useful system to allow you to safely use your iPhone while you are driving, utilising your dashboard screen to display relevant iOS screens and buttons, all without messy wires making the inside of your car look untidy.
The box includes the CarPlay dongle, a USB cable, plus the manual. First impressions are good, with the device being easy to set up and use. The device was detected immediately when connected via USB, with a prompt for a bluetooth connection shortly after – allowing you to connect your phone very easily. One of the big selling points of this dongle is the speed of operation, allowing you to boot up the CarPlay feature in no time at all. Another big feature is the ability to issue voice commands to Siri without having to take your hands off the wheel.
The only negatives that I could mention are the fact that the device is prone to crashing, but only on rare occasions. There might be a slight over-heating issue as it only seems to happen when it has been on for a long time but it’s not a deal breaker. Also this Ottocast model isn’t the cheapest on the market, but then you usually get what you pay for ;-).
APPLE CARPLAY WIRELESS ADAPTER
A SIMPLE PLUG IN AND PLAY APPLE WIRELESS ADAPTER FOR INCAR PLAY. ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH IPHONES ON IOS 10 OR ABOVE. QUICK PAIRING VIA BLUETOOTH TO ENABLE CONNECTION BETWEEN ADAPTER AND PHONE. CONTROL YOUR MUSIC VIA CAR COMPUTER WITHOUT THE NEED TO USE YOUR PHONE.
Wireless CarPlay Adapter OTTOCAST 2021 Newest Wired to Wireless CarPlay, Wireless CarPlay
I think when they designed the electronic equipment for cars that featured CarPlay, the manufacturers would’ve thought out of the box for a small moment and realised that wireless connectivity was much more convenient and what customers actually wanted, not wired up plug in connectivity, it’s not as if the technology wasn’t around. I’m aware certain manufacturers are incorporating wireless technology into their cars now, for us that don’t have that option to buy a new car, then this CarPlay adapter solves the wiring issue with our Iphones and turns the CarPlay feature in our existing cars into a truly wireless affair!
It’s a small bit of kit for a lot of money but it’s worth it as it will basically make life so much easier, just basically set up, and forget about it! I’ve connected this to my Peugeot and it was a straight forward set up, just read the instructions on the Amazon product page to get an idea.
The only benefit of plugging in my phone was that it would charge up during use in the car, however, I’m lucky enough to have a built in wireless charging pad so I just place my phone on that.
The cool feature of this product is basically once set up, it’s then automatic from their, it connects each time the ignition is switched on to my phone (Iphone 8) and the display is ready for me to use.
The one thing I would say about this adapter is that I’ve never had any disconnections, now, I’ve tried a few adapters for my car and have had the occasional disconnection or in extreme cases, a disconnection and the phone wouldn’t reconnect. So this adapter has an 100% solid connection without any dropouts, so that’s a big plus for me.
I would’ve liked a longer connection cable on this unit, as such I have to locate it basically close to the USB port which isn’t a problem as such but when I want to use my built in wireless charging pad I have to place my phone under this adapter as it sits more or less on top of the pad due to the close proximity of the pad and USB port. I think I can solve this issue by purchasing an extension cable but will have to look into that, if it’s possible, then I will place this adapter in the glove compartment out of the way.
Overall, for the ease of set up and use this is most definitely a 5 star product, price wise, it’s very competitive as you can pay a lot more for a wireless Carplay adapter and this one works as it should.
N.B. Always ensure your car is compatible with this adapter before ordering.
Let’s be clear here, you’re mainly buying this for one reason like me – you want to use your cars existing CarPlay without having to take your phone out of your pocket. This is not going to revolutionise CarPlay, make it any better or any more responsive but it will make it less hassle. You tuck this away in glove box or center console, connection via the included cable, and then when you start the engine your phone will seek it out and connect without having to plug a cable in manually. It’s a small quality of life improvement, but if it’s something that you value like me, it’s well worth it. The connection seemed pretty quick from power on, definitely under 30 seconds, so I was happy with that.
I have a small pet peeve that the angle of the male usbc plug element that connects to the Ottocast was manufactured with a slight angle, but it doesn’t affect operation at all and seems to keep the plug mounted securely.
Saves manually connecting, voice and calls work well as does navigation and music etc.
I chose this to try with my partners Citroen C5 as my car is ancient. I set it up for him and was surprised by how quick and easy it was to set up. The unit is smaller than the average phone and a little thicker, it is black and unobtrusive. It comes with the USB cable that you just plug in, no other cables are needed just that one. cable. Once plugged in to the USB it was automatically detected and prompts for a Bluetooth connection. I set it to search with my partners phone on visible for discovery and then allowed the connection when prompted. After the initial Bluetooth connection, it is then connected by Wi-Fi.
The unit can stay plugged in so there is no need to do anything after setting up, once my partner goes into the car the phone connects automatically. It works with Siri, he can get into the car and very quickly ask for music or news etc, he can set navigation by just asking as well. It just makes everything quick and easy. Voice dialling, music etc, a great timesaver.
Do you need it to use carplay? No
Does it make using carplay quick and easy with no hassle? Absolutely yes.
It isn’t cheap but it is a very handy gadget, great for a pressie too.
The wired apple CarPlay is now successfully wireless.
After initial setup, definitely connects to the iPhone whenever I get into the car and put on the ignition. I wanted my car to have wireless CarPlay so that the phone is independent of the cable.
I think if you want that functionality, you should definitely try this. However, let me tell you, this might not be 100% comparable to a system that might have such functionality from the Car manufacturer itself.
The lag is very small, not impacting the functionality. Voice call, steering buttons, all work as well.

Small and compact wireless CarPlay adapte
Tested this little gem in a 2017 Vauxhall Adam and was amazed at how simple and quick it was to connect. All the wireless functions work just as if your iPhone was hard wired to the USB port. Took seconds to connect via Bluetooth just needed to enter the code into your iPhone that was displayed on the screen and hey presto your up and running.
Turning off the car and on again the Bluetooth automatically connected to the same phone so no need to keep entering codes great little adapter that makes life just that little bit easier.
It is quite expensive when all it does is make your Apple CarPlay wireless but it’s whether this is important or not.
Highly recommend.
Make Your CarPlay Wireless!!!
Amazing little device from OTTOCAST which makes your Apple CarPlay wireless. I used this on my Volkswagen Golf 2019 and it worked straight away. All I had to do was connect my iPhone to the bluetooth and within seconds it was all setup. Works very smooth and highly recommend to anyone who is looking to use their Apple CarPlay wirelessly.
