The game is a blast to play. The story, while not really important is engaging as it helps to explain the events before FF1. The characters and edginess is absolutely funny and Jack is the only character I know who wants to skip his own cutscenes in his game.

If you like Nioh and Nioh 2, you’ll love this.

I didn’t think much of this game at first even after playing the demo but I decided to buy it anyway as there is nothing else currently i’d want to play. To begin with I wasn’t that impressed with the game itself, the graphics and the lip-sync during cutscenes but putting that to 1 side and giving it a chance, i’m now finding it quite fun & addictive. It’s in no way a next-gen game though, more like an old PS4/PC game. Being a fan of Final Fantasy and Nioh I had to give this a go and I find it pretty much a cross between those 2 games. If you like dungeon crawlers then i’d recommend this game. I’m still early doors in it, only played about 8 hours and i’m learning as I go because it’s not a simple button basher, it requires a bit of thought and tactical play. I do enjoy the boss battles in the same way I did with Nioh but with the Final Fantasy twist thrown in, it works well. Enemies can obliterate you in a move if you’re not careful and get too greedy. There’s a lot of content here and classes to explore. There is a choice of difficulty too, I went for ‘Action’ as I wanted the challenge and so far i’m not disappointed and yes I have died a few times to being 1 shotted! To add the in-game menu navigation takes a bit of getting used to and sifting through equipment is constant.

Nioh + Final Fantasy through the lens of 2000s edge. Jack Garland yells expletives and punches a villain trying to give a monologue. It’s all I’ve ever wanted.

So this wouldn’t win any awards for best story but it’s still enjoyable in a cheesy way. Gameplay is very fun and enjoying the game so far.
