Quality of mattress and pump better than expected. My wife has health issues and spends a lot of time in bed. This mattress has helped a lot with relief of pressure sores. Good value for money.

For the money this thing is great, it keep my wife from having bed sores. Of corse it also helps to turn the patient, but i didn’t have to move her as often.

My mom is on hospice at home and has very little movement. She was starting to get sores, so we thought we would give this a try. My mom’s sores healed up and her skin looks great. I would highly recommend this product!

Like many of you who have purchased this air mattress already know, caring for a bedridden family member is a highly stressful endeavor and the prospect of developing severe bedsores is a whole other beast. Bedsores cause excruciating pain and can lead to severe necrosis, skin/internal infection, sepsis and death so relief from physical pressure on the backside is the caregiver’s number one priority whether in the hospital, nursing facility, or at home. Luckily, I was told by hospital staff and our visiting nurses that affordable air mattresses are available on Amazon — much like the type found in hospitals.

The ultra quiet Vive Alternating Pressure Pad combined with ritual like turning has reduced three S4 bedsores the size of a half dollar coin (sacral, buttock and vertebral) to completely healed and intact skin in approximately 30 days. I am simply amazed (and quite relieved). The added benefit is that it has given me a little freedom from having to turn every 2 hours all day to every 3 or 4 and it continues to work alternating the cells all through the night while I am sleeping. The pump has been on since it arrived and set up and I have had no problems with it since. This is an added benefit and one that has significantly reduced the anxiety and burnout I feel from nursing.

The only complaint I have is that there is localized deflation in some areas of the mattress, but after nearly 2 years of continued, non-stop, 24/7 use it was anticipated from normal wear and tear (vinyl can be tricky after exposure to varying temps and ambient humidity let alone sheer pressure from bearing weight).

Nevertheless, I am ordering a replacement as soon as possible, but for the meantime it is holding up very well (even with the deflation of a few cells). Highest recommendation for long term care of bedridden patients at the nursing home, the hospital or at home!

Great value for money. I bought this for my Mum as she spends all her time in bed now, and I was worried about bed sores. It took her a little time to get used to it, but it has different settings, so we started low.
Now she doesn’t really notice it and it has helped greatly.

Has withstood 5 months of rough use as we often have to pull it back up to head of flattened bed. It does slide down throughout the day , same as underpads do (hospitals have to adjust underpads 9 or more times a day).as the head if bed is raised and lowered so much for eating ,.exercise, or resting needs. But absolutely worth every penny Super quiet. Easy to assemble. Long flat pieces at top and bottom allow for tucking under mattress but the mattress slides too. Still, far better than no protection from pressure sores. BEST Thing we did.

I was having trouble with the pressure injury on my hip, and decided to order one of these mattresses. First off, I was surprised by how inexpensive they were, and I was concerned that that would mean that they were not durable. I found the opposite to be the case. I took one with me traveling, and it held up the whole time. It does make a bit of noise when it’s running, but it does do a great job of relieving the pressure. If you are having problems with something like that. I would recommend this to anyone that was having trouble healing up a difficult area.

I have fibromyalgia and dystonia and would wake several times a night purely because of pain from lying in the same position. I’m definitely sleeping more deeply although I do still toss and turn but that’s just me. The only thing I’ve found is that even with two sheets on top the rubber of the mattress makes me feel a bit sweaty and hot some nights but certainly not enough to stop using it.
I have it set at about a third of the power as any higher is too firm for me and causes pain but you can adjust it to suit your needs. The feeling of the air going out now and again then slowly refilling the chambers is quite soothing and on the whole I’m really happy I bought the mattress.

This is truly an amazing product. My mother can’t reposition herself and, like many others have stated, nerve pain makes it difficult for her to sleep in more than a few positions. She had two pressure sores on her backside and we were terrified they were only going to get worse. After about 2-3 weeks of using this device at night and on chairs/couch while sitting her sores were healed! Of course her wounds were also carefully cared for, cleaned and dressed every day. But since she has been using this pad every night she has not had any more sores! If you are in the market for this type of device go with this product!

I wasn’t convinced at first about this inflatable mattress my wife had ordered, as I thought it would be alternating pressure in varying areas of the mattress, almost like a massage vs. able to simply keep the pressure constantly higher or lower, depending on where you set the dial.

Nonetheless, the extreme extruded pattern of the mattress, and ability to adjust the pressure throughout as needed, has proven to COMPLETELY AVOID bed sores or similar issues from laying in bed for extended period of times (he’s now been in it 24 hours/day for the past 5 days as his health/strength has rapidly declined.

We’ve had this thing plugged in and running continuously for nearly 2 weeks now, and have had no problems. It’s definitely been a blessing in his life as he’s in hospice in our home with extremely limited time left as I write this.

Bottom line, I’d HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product for anyone else that needs to relieve body pain and/or bed sores from being in a bed for extended periods of time. It also works perfectly fine with a bed that bends up/down for head & feet, etc.

I am super impressed by this inflatable mat. And the price! I received an injury to my low back that caused me to be in a rehab facility, and the beds are not comfortable. This was something that made sense, thought I would try it as a temporary measure. What a difference it has made! It’s nice to be able to adjust the thickness/firmness as needed. The pump is pretty quiet, a slight hum. Occasional hissing from the mat as the air oscillates through the mat. It is an interesting sensation as the chambers rise and fall, but feels good. They really should charge a lot more money for this item. It’s definitely worth every cent.

Update- I am again in rehab following surgery. Yet another uncomfortable bed. I brought this with me, thinking I might get a day or 2 more relief. This thing is still working as well as the first time, currently 30+ days. I am impressed, and really grateful to have this.

Fantastic that you can have different firmness settings. It is sized for a hospital bed which does mean you have extra mattress hanging over the end of the foot of the bed but that’s not proved an issue for us. Been using this for 5 weeks in combination with a sacral relief sofa cushion in the day time and the sacral pressure sore has gone and no new sores. As I am one of the people who is in transit between energy companies, I can’t comment yet on running costs.

To be honest our loved one may not have noticed the difference until we knew there were no more issues.
No problems with the product, EVER.
The sound is very very minimal….most times we didn’t hear it unless we were listening for it.
    Well worth it.

The quality of both the pump and mattress has exceeded all expectations. The pump is super quiet however there is some noise (low drone) created by air but this is only to be expected. If it’s an issue it can be turned off and the mattress stays inflated and comfortable but please don’t let this put you off. It would be the same for any product.I’m very pleased with the purchase and can highly recommend you buy one if you have any sort of requirement for one even if you aren’t bedbound. Came with a 230 UK supply that plugs straight in. Was up and running in minutes. Be careful to check it’s in position each day as it can slide a bit when getting in and out of bed but stays in place normally. Highly recommend.

I couldn’t be happier with this purchase! My husband, who has stage 4 cancer, was developing bed sores. I purchased the Vive alternating pressure mattress topper and his bed sores were cured. I am still waiting for a negative air mattress to be provided by Medicare, but that solution is, no doubt, hung up in beauracratic penury. This solution wasn’t very expensive and totally successful. Waiting for Medicare to provide a solution would have worsened my husband’s condition. Thank you, Vive!

This was the best money I’ve spent so far in 14 months of caregiving for my loved one with dementia. She spends 75% of her time in bed and I credit this for saving her from pressure ulcers. We only had it on the lowest setting but I kept it on unless she was on her side or having other personal care done. Sometimes she said it felt like a baseball was in her back but even she admitted that went away after a few moments. If you have a loved one who is spending most of their days in bed, I could not recommend this more highly. Stay in front of pressure ulcers! This will help you do it.

He started sleeping on this Vive alternating mattress only 5 days ago, He really likes this mattress. it has relieved the tenderness. And years ago my father had some spinal fusion, as a result he has back pain most of the time. or now I must say had. this back pain has been relieved while laying on this mattress. He will always get pain when he sits up or walks around, but can get relief now. The product seems to be very well made and the pump is very quiet, there is some sounds of air being released, it is not loud. So far a zillion good stars.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWhisper quiet motor is true. Soft shush sound when air pressure is cycling is very soothing. Using for 91 yr old mother recovering from severe stroke. She is small framed and the soft setting works for her. I no longer have to reposition her ever 2 hours to keep bed sores from appearing. There are no pressure sores anywhere with this mattress. I am using over spring mattress that comes with hospital bed. She now sleeps comfortably. Shipping was quick. Price is very reasonable. She is not bed ridden, but even sitting in a wheel chair for several hours will cause pressure sores. This helps give her a break from the chair during the day, and allows her to sleep through the night. I use waterproof mattress covers also. One with some padding and switch to another one without padding. Both work fine with mattress. Mattress stays in place while pulling her back up toward the head of the bed and during adjustment of head and foot elevation of bed.

This mattress is excellent value for money. And as mentioned in other reviews the pump is quiet and effective. There is also a YouTube channel from the manufacturers which gives a bit more information about the product, and they respond to queries.

Unfortunately I had to return the mattress. This was because of the strong smell of plastic. I did air it for a few days, but the smell persisted. I am sensitive to odours, and this may not be an issue for other people.

    The return process went smoothly.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI purchased this to use for my 89 year-old Mom, who sleeps a lot and doesn’t walk any longer. I get her up in a wheelchair, but sometimes she will sleep for way too long and even when trying to turn her to prevent sores, they still tend to happen. Her tailbone is getting red due to lack of musculature (padding!) and along the back of one calf and heel. The leg problem is due to the fact that she prefers to cross her legs while sleeping so it is putting too much pressure on the bottom leg. I put this unit on her bed and covered it with the lambs wool topper and then put the sheets over that. Didn’t tell Mom I was adding this device. For the last three days and nights she has slept peacefully and even stopped crossing her legs. The bruising seems to be going down. I am pleased! I have asked her if she was comfortable and she says she is and she has never mentioned the sound of the motor or air sounds.

Member of my family suffers from a series of pressure ulcers. We do not use this on the bed, but on the recliner she uses during the day. In addition to ulcers, she has serious leg problems restricting her to the recliner just about all day. It gives her some relief with its on/off air to the rows, but to give her complete relief, she has to stay off them, but, regrettably, cannot.

My beloved, bed bound mother had gotten a bed sore so I immediately started looking for something to help elevate the issue and reduce rotating her and turn the bed every two hours. The rotation was not comfortable for her. This mattress was a miracle for us allowing rotations to reduce to two or three times a day. The bedsore quickly went away and never camp back. I highly recommend this product.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersAbsolutely amazing. I was originally put off having one of these mattresses due to the price and thickness but this one is very reasonable in price and not too thick. First night and wow! It was the longest sleep I have had for a long time due to pain. It is like heaven.
I definitely recommend this. The pump is very quiet, I heard a very slight hum the first 20 mins which I don’t notice at all.
Ignore the bad reviews that claim it is not for the UK being only 120volts, it is definitely 240 volts and has a UK 3 pin plug. Regarding the mattress warranty of 6 month, I would question this under the CRA2015. It should legally be 12 months.

I purchased this unit for my husband who became partially paralyzed and bed bound after a surgery. I needed to ‘float and turn’ him regularly with pillows to prevent bed sores. He disliked the pillows and was constantly throwing them on the floor. The memory foam mattress pad provided by our insurance was three times as expensive as this, and was absolute garbage. [After two days, it had a permanent concavity where my husband’s bottom sat]. So I needed an alternative to a crappy mattress pad and pillows, and this unit did the trick.

The mattress slowly changes the inflation rate in the cells, adding air to some and removing air from others. This prevents constant pressure on any one point of the body. I laid on the mattress to know how it would feel. You can feel the individual cells, and so it isn’t uniformly smooth. My husband did notice the difference but got used to it. It completely eliminated the pillow problem and best of all, no bed sores!

The pump is audible, but reasonably quiet and not annoying at all. I highly recommend this mattress.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI wanted to try this mattress for while before I have a review. I bought this for myself as I have fibromyalgia and disc and spinal issues. I constantly turned in bed at night due to pressure pain and always woke up with back pain/numb areas. I have a good main mattress but I still had pain. So I thought maybe something that changes pressure would help. This was in my price range. I read other reviews and decided to go for it. The pump itself is almost silent. Hardly noticeable. The pressure change is very subtle and can be adjusted to suit requirements. I’m sleeping so well now. Pain is significantly reduced. I switch it on 10 mins before bed and it’s ready and easy to use. I have it just on my side of a king size mattress. Doesn’t bother my husband at all. I’m so pleased I decided to try this. It helps so much! I’m 53

My husband’s backside has not had skin this healthy in years. This topper is not a substitute for regular repositioning. But I found that regular repositioning alone did not prevent pressure issues. This mattress inflates/deflates the bubbles about every 6 minutes. That allows circulation to get to pressure points. Medicare or Medicaid take months to approve an alternating pressure mattress. By that time a slightly red area can turn into full fledged pressure ulcer which is painful and can lead to life threatening infection. Even after approval you are challenged to find a durable medical equipment supplier that even has one or will rent without a bed/mattress combo. If you have a bed-ridden loved one, you probably already have a hospital bed. If a bedsore developes, the required waterproof bandages are about $3.00 each and not covered by insurance. Does not take long to go through $80 worth of bandages. For this price, just buy the matress topper and reduce risks of bedsores, pressure ulcers, deep tissue injuries.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersMy partner broke his leg and had to stay in bed, I purchased this, but a little concerned of some of the reviews.
Firstly, it was delivered the next day (fantastic).
Secondly, the motor itself doesnt make any noise, the only noise you hear is the air circulating and thats only on occasions.
Thirdly, it has a normal 240 volt plug on it so no need for a euro adapter.

This blew up very quickly after a few days I thought that it was not working and I was ready to return it until I actually watched it work. It rotates which bubbles inflate every 6 minutes as advertised and you can hardly feel it, but it does. The only downfall is that if you lay directly on a bubble, it can be rather uncomfortable. I found myself shifting which often made me slouch down in my bed. There’s a learning curve but anything is better than the hard mattress that the bed came with.

I ordered the pressure pad for my father, who had an existing bed sore, that he got while being in the hospital.

I wanted something that whose pressure would change automatically in different areas of the bed, so that there wasn’t a constant pressure on my dad’s tailbone area. Something that would relieve the pressure and assist in the healing of the sore on his tailbone.

I liked that it was quiet, even when changing pressures or refilling with air.

When it comes to changing the pressure areas automatically, it goes the job. However, my dad kept complaining about the “lumps” / air bubbles, and said it was uncomfortable. Unfortunately, we had to stop using it and removed it from my dad’s bed.

I received this item on July 9, 2019. I hooked it up, switched it on and it has never been shut off since. It finally failed last night, August 26, 2020.
I read another low rated review last night while ordering a replacement that said basically that this is a great item if you only want something that will last for a year. Think about that for a second. My pump lasted for 414 days of constant use, that’s only a few days short of 10,000 hours of operation. For an $80 device, that’s impressive no matter how you look at it! It has worked exactly as described and has greatly improved the quality of life for my 90 year old mother. I will gladly buy another of the same model to replace this one. Thanks Vive!

We were worried when my relative started getting red areas on pressure points; took a look on Amazon and found this along with amazing reviews like “bedsores gone in 10 days”. We bought one and are very impressed with it. It DID make the redness on pressure areas vanish within a week. It’s ridiculously easy to install and use. It’s nice heavy duty vinyl and even comes with patches in case you manage to drive a nail through it accidentally 🙂 Finally, the pump is so quiet that I have to touch it to tell if it’s on or not.

I had an accident followed by surgery and will be in bed for the better part of three months until I get mobility back. I bought this item when trying to find ways to get relief from the discomfort triggered by many hours in a hospital bed. This item did the trick. I have a cheap ($20) mattress topper on top of the alternating pressure pad. I think that’s pretty important, as it seems to me it could be uncomfortable to only have a sheet on top of it. But, the bottom line…I am much more comfortable now when spending long periods in the bed. My issue before having this pad was primarily my very lower back and very upper butt, as I sat in the bed with the head of the bed elevated. I did not have bedsores, so I can’t speak to whether it would provide any benefit for those. But, for pressure points where it started to feel like you’re sitting on a rock, this alternating pressure pad does a nice job.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI got this for my 77 year old bedridden mom that has dementia. She had a bedsore that was slowly healing with just Neosporin and moving her around. I switched to Curad Germ Shield Antimicrobial Gel and this Vive alternating pressure pad. With changing the bandage twice a day and using this pressure pad, the bedsore was completely healed in less than two weeks. I’m saying two weeks because I continued to use both days after it was healed, just to make sure for my paranoia. I’ve been using this pad, with a rented hospital bed and have had zero and I mean ZERO issues with bedsores since. The incline feature on the hospital bed does not in any way hinder the use of the pad. The only negative is the noise level, which in my opinion isn’t bad, but quiet it is not. My mom doesn’t even notice it.

My mother is a very light sleeper and was concerned about the potential noise, but she reports there is absolutely no noise! Everyone is very happy!
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the first order came with no mattress, just the motor. They were quick to accept my return and the replacement came intact, but this certainly brings into question their quality control!

This product is for a specific reason, however, I’m using it for another reason.
I ordered this product for my spa clients that are on my table for hours at a time. I keep it completely covered at ashl times with a buffer blanket in between the inflatable mattress and the linens my customers touch. I clean the inflatable mattress with barbicide after each linen change which happens to be after each client.
I keep the setting on the lowest setting as that is enough to satisfy each client’s comfort needs.
I have had the best feedback on this item from each and every client, from the thinnest to the heaviest.
I would recommend this product to anyone who needs to rest in one place for hours on end. Every client tells me their backs feel 10x better when having their services completed.

I initially wanted a memory foam topper, but thought I would give this thing a try instead, since I like air mattresses. This will be an adequate holdover until i can afford a proper new mattress. The topper will not hold its air once machine is turned off. Some reviews, along with the YouTube video link that came with the product, said the mattress will hold its air after machine is turned off for extended period of time. This is not the case per Customer Support and my own experience. Nevertheless, I will keep it and use it, as it does the job for now.

I’m a hospital nurse so when my partially bedridden dad got two pressure ulcers (bedsores), I wanted to find an air mattress to put on top of his mattress just like hospital do to treat this condition. There are several different types to choose from that run the spectrum in prices and claims of efficiency. I chose this one because of the ratings and positive reviews. I’m so glad I did! The mattress and pump are very easy to assemble and apply to the bed mattress. It only took a couple of minutes. The pump is extremely quiet! I cannot stress that enough! In fact, It was so quiet we thought it wasn’t working properly, but alas! It was! After just two weeks of lying on this mattress, my dad’s pressure ulcers have both healed and he is able to sleep comfortably the first time in weeks.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI have waited 4 months since purchase to give a true assessment,
This product as helped my wife who is severely disabled such a lot, in stead of feeling uncomfortable and getting up on average 3.30 am every day her average time now is 6am.
I was sceptical at first because of cheap price of product. but no.
I would purchase another without hesitation,
On size it does take up 2/3rds of our double bed ,but I found in no time I was overlapping onto mattress and now doesn’t affect my sleep .

I am completely bed~bound and during my last hospital stay, the doctor told me to get an alternating pressure mattress to prevent bedsores. To say this has product been a godsend would be an understatement. Not being able to move at all, the comfort this mattress provides is incredible. As well, I must compliment the construction of the control box. I can’t tell you the number of times an inattentive paramedic has sent the box crashing onto a tile floor. To quote another company, it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. If you are disabled, have a disabled loved one, or just want to put this over another surface to enhance its comfort, I would highly recommend! And for the record, this was not a compensated review, or the result of receiving a free product to offer my comments.

I have found that I need to keep a good quilted bed mattress cover over it before adding the bottom sheet to keep from getting alittle warm. Other than that; it’s very comfortable and keeps me from getting bed sores on the heels of my feet. Also, I sleep very comfortably on it and it does not slip at all when I turn from side to side. Plus the motor is very quiet. It doesn’t make a sound and fits on the foot board of my bed very nicely. It would have been nicer if the cord from the machine to the wall was longer so it would reach the top of my bed where the wall plug is located. I had to get an extension cord to get it to reach the wall plug. Other than that, I would buy again if needed.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this for my mother who has been bedridden for over 5 years now and she does have pressure relief mattress on her bed but her buttocks and tail bone started to show signs of irritation so her caregiver mentioned that one of her other patients had one of these and it really helped so I bought this one. I liked that it moves the air around periodically and that it has several levels of firmness you can choose from so if she wants to lay flat on her back for the day it would be fine because the mattress is still relieving the pressure points.
I was a little worried since some of the earlier reviews indicated that it smelled bad and had to wait for a day or two until it aired out. Luckily this was not the case with the one I received. Small plastic odor but it was similar to a camp air mattress and was gone within minutes. My mom no longer has the red marks and is able to sleep really well. You barely notice when the air pump kicks on so I highly recommend this product.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got this for my husband who is back home recuperating from surgery. It is on a queen size bed under the mattress pad, and takes up more than half the width of the bed. My husband said it feels like he is being cradled and is pretty sure he will continue to use it once it is no longer needed. He was having difficulty with sore hips and legs and but once the air cycles under his hip he drifts right off and has been getting full nights of sleep; something that has been rare the past several years. He has said the only thing he would improve is if it had warm air circulating the entire time; however it heats right up under him when he lays down. He said that he would really give it a full five stars were the air heated right off the bat.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI purchased the Vive Alternating Pressure Pad w/electric pump for my 79 year old father who is bedridden due to a stroke. We had been using the manual pump air mattresses that we’d bring home from the hospital, only to have them pop after about a month’s use. Well, after going through 3 of those and dad always complaining of his body hurting after they’d deflate a little, I decided on this purchase! Boy, am I glad I did!!

This air mattress, just after one night’s use, has already had an immediately positive effect on my dad. Set to the firmest setting, what is recommended, had my dad sleeping like a baby and zero complaints of body aches!! He looks like a king content on his throne now!!

My review for the mechanics of the equipment is this: the mattress is of high quality material, durable, soft, flexible, and comfortable to the touch with little to no plastic or rubber odor, which I greatly appreciate! Fits the Medicare provided hospital bed perfectly, and adjusts with the bed when raising or lowering either the foot or head! The electric pump is extremely quiet and does exactly as described, cycling every 6 minutes. I can actually see my dad’s body rise and fall, ever so slightly, as the air gets redistributed through the channels!

My one observation that I had not read about or anticipated was the heat that is produced by the little electrical power box that hooks onto the foot of the bed. After about a 5 hours of use, the room where my dad stays became very warm, as did my dad. I also would get very warm every time I went in to check on him or tend to him. I thought it was just us and the unusually warm temperature outside. Then it dawned on me that it was the power box. This is the only ongoing power item in the room sized 20×20 ft. While it’s not a deal breaker in keeping the item, cause it’s benefits far outweigh this one minor caveat, it is something that we have to consider. So, here’s what we’ve done to accommodate the slight rise in temperature: we’ve changed our fleece winter sheets back to crisp cotton, which dad found quite refreshing, and put a little fan in the corner of the room to circulate the cooler air, the air closer to dad’s bed seemed to get a bit stagnant with the extra heat.

All that being said, and after making the slight modifications to accommodate the new air mattress, we are most pleased with this purchase! My only regret is that I didn’t make it month’s ago when first home with dad!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe had purchased this pad for my mother who had spent almost two weeks in the hospital and was unable to get out of bed and walk around. She had developed what they call “fishers” on her bottom in between her cheeks (tearing of the skin). My mother expressed how painful and uncomfortable this was for her and before we had purchased this pad, And we were trying to alternate her body position like they were doing in the hospital to relieve the pressure on her open wound. However this wasn’t working so I decided to try this pad out. After her almost two week Hospital visit, we used this mattress pad for her. My mother immediately said that she didn’t feel pressure anymore on that area and was actually able to withstand sitting directly on her bottom. Within about 3-5 days we seen her exposed skin start to scab up and heal itself.
I do believe this pad works because when my mother would get out of bed and sit in her recliner chair or the sofa, she would still say that she felt too much pressure on her backside and would want to go back in bed and sit on her mattress pad. I say sit on her mattress pad in bed because we also purchased a large pillow wedge so she could actually sit up while in bed. We don’t have one of those fancy beds that can be adjusted to sit up in bed.
This machine made absolute no noise which was amazing. It also was a great size (twin) that has longer flaps (flaps are thin and do not inflate) at the top and bottom of the pad to allow you to tuck in underneath your mattress pad to avoid it from moving around.
We used this feature but we also used a rug grip pad that we already had at home. So I can’t say for sure if this pad stayed in place because of the flaps that are built in or if it was the rug grip pad that we used.

The only downfall I can report on is threat my mother asked for the mattress pad to be a little less firm. The pump has a dial where you can adjust how firm the mattress pad gets. We adjusted it all the way to soft however from my perspective of just feeling the pad, it didn’t seem like the pad got any softer than when it was positioned at “firm” But my mother did say that it was comfortable to sleep in, however the 4 stars for comfortability instead of 5 stars is for the reason that the pad didn’t in her opinion feel like it got softer with the dial.

This mattress pad was worth the money to see my mothers wounds heal and to give her immediate relief of them. I would definitely recommend this pad.

Having been confined to bed after a hip surgery, I’ve been sitting on pillows to try to help my tailbone pain I’ve been having to no avail.

When I saw this thing I knew I had to try it because it felt like there weren’t that many options available to help me.

Well, as soon as my wife set it up for me I moved myself onto it and was asleep in minutes. Probably one of the best hours of sleep I’ve had in ages, despite my aching hip surgery recovery.

It’s like sleeping on air, it’s so comfortable I don’t ever want to be in this position again without it.

It was super simple to setup, and took about 15 minutes to inflate on firm mode (it can be lowered after that, it just needs to be inflated first), and fixed my tailbone pain almost immediately.

If you’re confined to bed, do yourself a favor and get this cover. I don’t know how I went so long without it!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe one I received offered relatively loud buzzing noise from the beginning. At first, I thought it wasn’t tight enough against the bed, because it’s a vibrating sort of noise, but that isn’t the problem. It’s just loud enough to be noticeable. Mom seems to be comfortable enough. Her dementia is too advanced for her to advise. The pressure does vary about every 10 minutes. I can’t yet tell whether there’s an appreciable difference in her skin breakdown, but I plan to update the review after 2 weeks.
Update: The pressure relief appears to be working some. Certainly not as it apparently has for others who were cured in a week, but it does relieve some of the pressure. Very difficult to use turn sheet. I put the sheepskin back (over the mattress) so that I could turn Mom without hurting her. The buzzing noise has gotten louder and doesn’t stop. It’s annoying. I’m looking for a pressure relief mattress that I can afford that will quietly relieve pressure. This time, hopefully, I will be more thorough.

My husband is unable to reposition himself in bed and sleeps on his back. Pressure sores had become an aggravating issue and we’d reached the end of our wits. I researched alternating pressure pads and found this very affordable option. The results have been amazing! We use a barrier cream twice a week in conjunction with this pressure pad and a smaller pad on his recliner. The pressure sores are no longer an issue and he is free from pain and discomfort. His home health care staff are as impressed as we are because they constantly deal with this issue. And the price point is perfect for those on a fixed income. Equally impressive is the customer service. This wonderful device has a one-year warranty. A few months ago, we noticed a noise from the motor that was extremely annoying. When I contacted the company for advice, they sent us a replacement unit immediately. They couldn’t have been more professional or accommodating. This unit has greatly increased John’s quality of life and I heartily recommend it to anyone facing similar issues. There is some soft background noise while the unit is operating and there is a gentle, wave-like sensation as the pads inflate and deflate. We did place a topper over the pad as a cushion for increased comfort.

I bought this mattress for a friend who went through a full knee replacement surgery. She also suffers from another condition that makes lying on her back for extended periods of time, very painful. Which would make her recovery at home even more challenging.

While in the hospital she commented on how the bed she was in, was so great. Meaning that she did not experience any pain in her back and hips while lying there for an extended amount of time. So, in preparation for her being released to go home, I hopped online to look for something similar.

A full hospital bed was totally out of the question and since she would continue to use it after recovering, renting was not an option. Then we found this!

It was delivered the next day which was perfect and setting it up was soooo easy! At first when we set it up, the pump was so quiet we thought it was broken, until we saw the cells start to inflate (yay!). Next, we tried it out.

My friend has been able to stay in bed and rest without experiencing any hip and back pain at all for the past three days!

I purchased 1 over two years ago for my mom who is bedridden along with a memory foam mattress. I need to write this long review so you understand how beneficial this mattress is. My mom had to be admitted to the hospital last year and the nurses all commented they couldnt believe how amazing her skin looked for someone that is bedridden. I really didn’t think too much of it. While in the hospital though she developed pressure/bed sores from a 2 week stay. Once home I was able to clear them up in a few weeks. Anyhow recently (a year later) she started getting sores. No matter what creams and how many times I changed her, they were getting worse. Finally I put 2 and 2 together and realized there was something wrong with her air pad. With pets its possible it got punctured. So I immediately a new 1. Within 2 days the sores started clearing up. Less than a week now and they are 98% gone!! I turn it on the firmest setting. If you have a loved one that is suffering from pressure sores or bed sores dont hesitate to purchase this! Every nursing home needs these for every bed!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy mom needs to use a pressure pad when she sleeps, and she finds that this product is much more comfortable and a lot less noisy than the pressure pad she had to use when she stayed at a skilled nursing/rehab center. She didn’t even want to use a pressure pad on her bed when she moved to an assisted living place, but I had to purchase one for her as a condition for her moving out of rehab. So I purchased this product, which is inexpensive compared to other pressure pads, because I figured my mom would probably just complain about it and pull it off the bed.
I (and my mom) are have been happily surprised and pleased with this pad. I visit her at least once a week and each time I see her this pressure pad is still on her bed. She admitted that she uses it and sleeps better now than she did at the skilled nursing center. She actually said that she wished she had gotten this pressure pad sooner, even before she had to go into rehab. I’m glad I got this pad for my mom because it was the right choice for her.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis product is mandatory for my 89 yr old strong mentally fit father. He is 6’6″ needs a special long homecare bed for length and shoulder width. Medicare beds did not make beds big enough for him. Even with The decubitus mattress I needed to put this on from the regular mattress as the circulating air is what is needed to alleviate the pressure wounds. BOTTOM LINE. YOU SIT ON YOUR ASS IN A BED ALL DAY AND NIGHT, THE SKIN WILL BREAK DOWN. This is an absolute must at Home and I carry one which I have the EMT’s put on the gurney in the infusion center for weekly transfusions that take between 10-12 hours. They should not be manufactured as fragile. Have purchased 3. Use 2. EMT’s just broke 3rd. Used it to pick him up. You can’t pick up 240 pounds 6’6″ on an inflatbed air mattress. Just saying. I recommend to other patients we see on regular basis in the cancer center too.

I have only written one review of anything before, but this warrants a review. It’s rare to have any single thing help a patient as much as this did. My friend has cancer–and also rheumatoid arthritis. He had developed bedsores and (a separate issue) was in pain while sleeping and when awakening due to the arthritis. Meds were not helping with the pain. We ordered this mattress. He called me after one night on it and said he had the best sleep in ages. He has since made some adjustments to the firmness, and ALWAYS reports having a good sleep–not always perfect, but WAY, WAY better. His wife says she doesn’t hear him groaning in pain as he did. I was amazed that a mattress could help that much. The other thing is that the cost was (to me) ridiculously low for a medical supply. I had just seen a pill crusher that cost as much as that mattress! It helped both with bedsores (allowing him not to have to wake himself to turn in bed) and it also helped a lot with the arthritis pain. Two thumbs way up, five stars–for both the price and the product.

Golden Review Award: 158 From Our UsersNo more bedsores!
I purchased this item 2 months ago and since then Mom has not had any more bedsores and sleeps comfortably. The one bedsore that she had prior to using the machine, has healed and she has not had any sign of another. She is 90 years old, Non-ambulatory and is in bed much of the time. I do transfer her to her lift chair and her favorite spot on the couch from time to time to change areas that receive pressure. I cover her Bob-o-Pedic Adjustable queen size mattress with a waterproof absorbent pad and over it a waterproof sheet to protect it and to give more even padding. It does not cover the entire queen size mattress, but neither does she. There have been no punctures or leaks so far. In case there ever is, I’m glad it came with free patches. This item has releived me of so much worry and time dealing with bedsores. I had even considered getting a bariatric mattress, but I am glad I tried this first. This is a winner!

    Great! No more bedsores.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersFirst and foremost, this device has really has helped eliminate my wife’s bed-sores. The slight movement provided is just enough to cause the pressure points to vary and that is what is needed.
The pump is VERY quiet. I have had aquarium pumps that made more noise than this pump.
Some people complained about the smell of the pad. It smells like an inflatable pool toy and when the box is first opened the odor is quite strong. However, the odor dissipates quickly. It was not noticeable after about an hour.
Also be aware that you can hear the cells inflating and deflating. Not loud enough to be annoying or to keep you awake, but noticeable non the less.
The only down side to this device is that it is made of vinyl and it does not breathe at all.
If the user is bed-ridden 24/7 be prepared for changing sweaty clothing.
One quick tip. The pad will wander around the bed because the is no convenient way to secure it to the mattress. The sheet alone is not sufficient to keep it in-place. The mattress we have has a cover with a zipper on it. PlaceInstall the pad inside the mattress cover. This eliminates the pad moving around on the bed.
Update 1-19-2019 – Still working well. Really good buy!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a godsend! My husband has Parkinson’s Disease and cannot (due to muscle rigidity) change position in bed. He has had three sensitive pressure point areas on his back and tail bone that I have had to watch carefully over the past year so as to avoid skin breaks/pressure sores/bedsores. The ever-so-gradual weight shifts that result from this mattress have completely eliminated those pressure points, and he reports complete comfort for the first time in years! There are two air hoses from the pump into the mattress itself; every 6-7 minutes; there is a very subtle side-to-side air shift that provides just the right amount of position change. (You can adjust the amount of inflation from “firm” to “soft.” We like the “firm” setting.)
We put this mattress on his side of a kind-size bed–it doesn’t slip and I don’t even need to use the extra length of plastic to tuck under the foot or head of the bed (though this is an option, if you prefer, and would probably be a good feature in a hospital bed). I purchased soft cotton twin-size fitted sheets and tuck one around the mattress when inflated. This provides comfy fabric next to his skin.
We have a small handrail near his head, so I hang the pump/motor on it, quite close to his head. It is so quiet (almost like white noise) that it is hardly noticeable. If you are particularly noise-sensitive, it can be hung near the foot of the bed or placed on a nearby table or bedstand.
I stumbled onto this product when looking for lambskin and/or bedsore prevention. It is the best $85 we’ve spent for medical care!

My husband was in a hospital low air loss mattress for nearly a year due to a pressure ulcer he sustained in a rehab facility. Finally the wound healed up with the use of a KCI wound vac, and our wound doctor said we were ready to switch to an APP. Though it appeared 1-2-3 simple, (Pump, lines, mattress) I was nervous at first after it came (in three days after placing order), so I set it aside thinking I’d need help with setting it up. No need! It was a breeze! Place on top of twin bed, plug in pump, hook to pad, turn to firm to fill faster. Ten minutes later, I tried it out myself, then called my husband. Nervous as could be. I was afraid to hope this would be our answer, since it had been so easy to order and set up. Again, No need! He loves it! Every morning he says how much easier it was to get out of bed, how well he slept. We are so grateful to have come this far. Color us very pleased. Thank you so much VIVE!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI bought one of these for my brother’s bed after he became ill this year and stopped walking or standing. He had no bedsores. He spent 3 nights in the hospital without one of these on his bed and came home with a bedsore on his shoulder blade which has now healed. I also credit meticulous hygiene and a healthy diet with his skin integrity. I recently bought another one for his glider chair (see photo) as he spends much of the day in the chair. Though the chair had a thick padded bottom and back, it wasn’t enough. I removed the back pad and put this on top of the bottom pad. I push some out under the arms which helps anchor it on the chair and I cover it with a flannel twin bottom sheet. It is super comfortable. He likes it and his backside looks better after putting this on the chair. We tried sitting him in a regular recliner but since his illness he just slides down or has too much room on the sides and slumps sideways. This pad surrounds him and keeps him upright.

Golden Review Award: 262 From Our UsersAbsolutely love this, I’ve tried other products to help with my grandmothers pressure sores.
And none worked as well like this. When I took her home from the nursing home she had two, stage one pressure sores on her backside. We had alot of trouble rotating positions because of nerve pain on her sides and she can only really sleep on her back. I’ve tried egg carton pads and other products, none made the pressure sores go away. Finally tried this product and within a week the pressure sores were completely gone!!! Over 3 months now and the pump barley makes a peep. Sometimes you can hear a ticking noise like an old clock but it’s never woke my grandmother up. Highly recommended this for anyone who has problems with pressure sores.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersBefore I purchased this mattress I read the reviews and they are 100% accurate, including the information about insurance. This is a small investment for a great return! In one week, there was significant improvement with the bed sore on my mom’s bottom. This is week 2 and well… O_O (wow). I wish I had taken before and after photos!!

Additionally, my mom’s legs became contracted while at a nursing home facility and I have have noticed significant improvement when I move her legs. She spends the majority of her time in bed and overall her body is more relaxed!!!

    I hope this review helps.

Golden Review Award: 87 From Our UsersThis has allowed me to sleep through the night without having to worry about repositioning and shifting my Mom every few hours!!! Literally has given me part of my life back! As the sole 24/7 caregiver I am constantly exhausted …sleep is a precious commodity…My Mom’s skin is very thin and we were always trying to stay ahead of breakdown with no luck …although I worked tirelessly to heel any breakdowns by constant shifing/repositioning now I can rest easy knowing this air mattress is doing the work!! I sleep in the same room with her and this makes a very very soft humming noise …doesn’t bother me a bit! Worth every penny! Even if I had to buy one a month it would be worth it! And guess what? Since we have had this, her constant small pressure sores have all healed up! Her visiting nurse is amazed at how well this works and he is telling all of his client’s caregivers about it! FYI my Mom is a thin women 5’5″ 125 I keep the pad in the highest setting as recommend

Golden Review Award: 41 From Our UsersJanuary 2017 I bought this for a friend who had a stroke in Sept. 2015. In the facility where he is now located there was no option for an alternating pressure mattress and he was suffering from bedsores as a result. He is so grateful to have this mattress because physical therapy was suspended until he could heal from the bedsores. Without this mattress with the alternating pressure he would not have been able to heal! Without physical therapy he would not have had a chance to possibly regain some use of his left arm. Every time I visit he thanks me profusely for having made his life much less painful. It is easy to set-up as long as you can place it near an electrical outlet, and I followed the advice in the manual and bought a surge protector. I also bought the 2-pack Soft-Fit Knitted Contour Sheets by BH Medwear, available on Amazon as well. Highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThe pressure mattress works very well and was easy to install. We put it on a double bed because we have not yet switched to a hospital bed for our elderly parent. He does not move very much in the night so the mattress is fine. We placed the fitted sheet over the mattress and it does not seem to move.

The motor is very quiet as some of your other reviewers have stated. We have kept the dial closer to the firmest mark and have not had any problems with our parent sleeping through the night.

We have only used it for a few days but we have noticed that it is more difficult to get our parent up out of the bed – he cannot slide very well on the mattress. Since we have only used the mattress for a few days, we do not have an opinion on how well it helps or stops pressure sores.

We turn the motor off during the day – but the mattress does not deflate, which is good. We turn it on about 30 minutes before we put him in bed.

We are pleased with the mattress and hope it continues to work well. Thank you.

Golden Review Award: 69 From Our UsersIf you aren’t aware, Insurance will only pay for an air mattress if your loved one has a stage 3 bedsore. I would prefer to be proactive and PREVENT one.

For two years, we have fought pressure sores, and when my husband developed another stage 2 sore, Home Health called in wound care to help. But you can only do so much if a person is unable to remain off of the pressure area. And in my husband’s case, it involves his sitting area. So, he sits on it during the day, and even with a pillow to prop him on his side, he is uncomfortable. For us, this was worth a try.

The instructions on this are simple, you plug the mattress into the tubing, and the tubing into the pump. There is an on/off switch and a pump pressure adjustment. It can lay on a flat surface, or hangs over the bed frame. Because of the way my husband’s bed is set up, we actually set it up backwards, putting the pump at the head of the bed instead of the foot. This placed the plug next to the outlet and prevented issues. The flaps were plenty long to tuck this in and keep it from sliding.

It has a six minute cycle, with two sections. One gradually increases in pressure while the other decreases. I didn’t notice a hum until I laid on a pillow on the mattress, and sound was carried. When placing my hand on the mattress, I notice a slight vibration.

My husband is happy with it, and I have napped on it as well. I notice it feels bumpy when I lay on my side, but not so much on my back. We have it on a pressure sore mattress, and it feels a bit firmer than the mattress. Over time, I feel some movement in the mattress. BUT I noticed that when I lay on it, My back didn’t ache like it does on my own mattress, so much so that I bought one for my bed too.

A special note for those with dementia patients. The slight movement I feel in the mattress could be interpreted as “something moving under me” and could panic someone who isn’t fully able to interpret the motion. Still, well worth trying.

Edited – after close to a year of use, one of the Tube connectors broke off and we had to replace the unit. Otherwise, this was still going strong and it really does help prevent pressure sores.

Second edit … time limit seems to be about a year for the pump.

Golden Review Award: 74 From Our UsersWhile we have only had the mattress a couple of nights it works well and is allowing my wife to finally get a good night’s sleep. Having dealt in medical equipment in a previous job I was skeptical about an alternating air mattress at this price. Happy to say I was wrong, this mattress appears to be of good quality and works as intended. Vendor also contacted us before delivery with warranty.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersIt does exactly what it says it will, doesn’t seem to take much power from the wall. Has an adjustment knob that allows you to control how much air goes in. The highest setting is a little full. Even at the lowest setting it seems a little too pumped up.

In operation it is silent most of the time. An occasional hiss is heard every few minutes as the air is adjusted and circulated. Most everyone should be able to sleep through it.

The movement is noticeable, but gentle; even soothing.

Most of the time you don’t even know it is there.

It is more comfortable to sit in bed and read … even for those who aren’t sick, if you have an uncomfortable mattress or other surface this is a reasonably priced solution.

For those who are confined to bed this is an essential device. I would buy this or something like it BEFORE a bed sore develops. They are very tricky to cure once they take hold. At this price, do not hesitate to get one for a loved one and insist they at least try it.

We’ve had this for a few months and there have been no problems.

Golden Review Award: 305 From Our UsersWhen I came across this mattress pad, I could not believe how affordable it was! So much cheaper than the full mattresses or beds similar, yet still had a pump with it, and covered the entire bed. My dad has been very ill the past few months, and pretty much confined to the bed for a good portion of those months, especially in the beginning. 3 weeks in, and he started to develop bed sores on his bottom. He was in and out of the hospital twice, and in a rehab center for 8 days in-between those hospital visits, and those bed sores, only got worse. So, I went searching for something to help with them so they would not get worse. This has been a huge help! They have not gotten any worse, no new ones have formed, and the other ones have started to heal nicely with the help of this mattress, Medihoney, and Terrasil.

As someone who has chemical sensitivities, I was concerned I would need to air this out before bringing it in the house, but the smell was not very noticeable at all, until I put my nose right down to it. Even then, not terrible. Being vinyl, I just knew it would be awful smelling, but it wasn’t. I was able to put it on his bed, and be in the small enclosed room he has with no issues at all. I thought once I closed his bedroom door, that it would then permeate the tiny room, but again to my surprise, it was not noticeable, even in the slightest way. I had left it, closed the door, and did not return for an hour, and I could not smell it. Such a pleasant surprise.

The pump is so extremely quiet, we cannot hear it. Dad can never hear it at all, but I can sometimes hear a bit of a hiss when it is adjusting, BUT there has to be complete silence for me to hear it, and I have excellent hearing. If there is any movement going on in the room, or the next one, I cannot hear it. If the radio is on, forget it, no way can I hear it. It really is impressive how quiet it is. I have it hanging on the side of his platform bed at the end, and it hangs perfectly right there, and it’s out of the way.

It took about 10 minutes on the highest level for it to inflate. It does it very quietly and slowly. So much so, you might not think it’s doing anything at all for a minute. Then you see some of the little pillowing form, and you know it’s working like it should. Once it was inflated, I laid directly on top of it for a few minutes to see what it felt like. In just those few minutes, I decided I must have one for myself! It was very soothing, and comforting to lay on. I was kind of surprised to feel that way so quickly, but I really want one! I will have to wait though, as it is not a necessity for me, just a want. I sleep in my recliner anyway, but this could be used there as well since it is so adjustable.

We have it set to the highest setting, and my dad didn’t even notice it at all the first week or so. He said it was comfortable, but couldn’t tell it was there. It was just like his mattress. He is just not very observant, and has dementia too, so I chalked it up to that. I asked him last night if he noticed it, now that it’s been 2 full weeks, and he said he does, but that it’s so subtle. I asked if he didn’t have it anymore, would he miss it, and he said a resounding YES. I asked him if it was comforting the way it adjusts, and he also said yes. It’s strangely comforting! Like I said, I want one!

Mine did not come with any straps, but maybe it is meaning flaps that are at each end of the mattress to slide under the mattress to hold it in place. We have not really tucked them under, and it has stayed in place with no issues at all. I have it directly on the mattress, then have the fitted sheet on top of it, and also a bed pad on top of the sheet, which is probably why it took him so long to notice it doing anything.

I do turn the mattress off when he gets up in the morning. I wasn’t sure if it would need pumped up again every night, but it doesn’t. It holds the air perfectly. Before he gets in bed, I turn it on again. It probably doesn’t matter when I turn it back on though, because it is still fully inflated, which was a nice surprise. I thought I might need to turn it on 10 minutes before he would go to bed each night, but I am happy to say, that is not the case.

Whether you need this for someone who is bed-bound, or want it just to have, it’s one of the best, most inexpensive bed items for anyone. You’ll wish you’d had it years ago.

Golden Review Award: 75 From Our UsersThis mattress is a blessing to my sister with cerebral palsy. I am her full time caregiver and she does not have any pressure sores. However, with this mattress and its 130 bubbled air pockets, it has helped her with her sore muscles and helped her not toss and turn so much when she is sleeping. She still has to be turned, but she is much more comfortable than ever before. This product surpasses the Drive Medical version and the flaps are an added bonus. They stay tucked nicely under the sheets and they keep the air mattress overlay from slipping and sliding. The fact that you can turn up the air pressure or turn it down is also great. I like the 5 minute intervals much better than others who have an 8 minute or 10 minute interval. This product is not only a value, it is very high quality as well. I am very grateful that VIVE Health has put a product out there that is not only a wonderful price point, but also meets the needs of the caregiver as well as the needs of the patient. If you are trying to decide which one to buy, choose this one and you can’t go wrong. A one year warranty is provided on the pump as well, and a 90 day warrant on the mattress. The other companies provide no warranty. Hope this helps any of you out there who need to make the decision to get an air mattress overlay.
