Top quality item
Bought for son, who is an amateur musician. He says it is a great piece of ki
Absolutely fantastic!
It came so quickly, I was very impressed! It looks even more beautiful in real life. The colour and shine is just magnificent! It is a very pretty guitar and it sounds amazing. I would definitely recommend this guitar!
Great 1st Proper Classical Guita
This was my 10 yr old daughter’s first full size classical guitar after playing cheaper smaller models whilst she grew.
The design is plain as you would expect for a classical guitar, the body is beautifully made any the natural wood colour add a little variety from the more normal orangier models.
The tone is good as is the action. This is a really nice entry level “proper instrument” for those who want a nylon strung classical guitar.
Great guita
Really great sound quality – my daughter is 11 and it fits her perfectly.
I'm in love!
I absolutely love this guitar. My dad has played guitar for years and he recommended this one because apparently, it’s especially good if your starting to learn, and even my guitar teacher complimented my guitar saying it was a really good one it sounds beautifully and it’s really easy to tune.
A quality classical guitar at an affordable price
Having spent a while searching for a budget Classical Guitar that didn’t sound or look too cheap I finally settled on the Yamaha C40II from the reviews I had seen. And what a purchase it has turned out to be!
The tone is warm and clear with an excellent sustain on each note. The guitar itself is very comfortable to play with the expected wide nut, nylon strings and spot-on action. The tuning machine gears are sufficient (what you expect for the price) although I can see myself replacing them in a year or so.
Overall I would say that this is a perfect entry level classical guitar, or even the go-to knockabout travel guitar for more advanced players. Very pleased with my purchase
Like many reviews – this guitar has blown me away.
For the money this is unbeatable (in the world of classical guitars).
Intonation might be a cent or two off lower on the neck but for the overall quality/price of the instrument I’m still stunned.
I was a bit worried as I know the standard C40 uses typically ‘better’ wood but I’m very happy with the sound and the assumed improvements to durability are worth it for the type of instrument I wanted.
Great value above entry level guitar.
One of THE best value for money guitars sounds and plays as a more expensive guitar, great quality. You will not be disappointed with this entry level guitar, you will be surprised.
A lovely guitar in the beginner price range. I have played for 20 years on all kinds of guitars and just wanted to reignite my playing after a long time off. The guitar is nice looking and easy to play. The all important intonation is good across the neck and action is just right for the quality of instrument. Very happy.
Beautiful
Beautiful guitar, really striking in natural matt, however awfully out of tune when it arrives. For an absolute beginner, it can be tricky to tune it and be 100% sure the sound is just right.
Happy daughter, happy guitar teacher!
I originally brought my daughter a cheaper guitar but it didnt sound great and she couldn’t perform the pieces she needed to. I did loads of research, reading reviews from different places, and eventually decided on this guitar.
It’s still a good price but sounds so much better! My daughter really enjoys playing it and her guitar teacher approves too!
Fat neck, very unforgiving
You need wide hands and long fingers to navigate the neck of this instrument. I never knew there was a wide necked guitar about but hey ho, this beauty ticks that box. My first guitar, complete beginner here. I picked it because it’s pretty, lovely finish and reasonably priced. Other beginners guitars looked very small, fancied a normal sized one. It’s a wide necked classical guitar. Reviews state it’s very unforgiving, they’re not wrong! My partner is an experienced guitarist and he agrees. I struggle with my woman hands, easier to play a normal style guitar.
Wow !
So impressed with del and quality. This was advertised as damaged but working fine ? IT IMMACULATE No damage Like NEW WOW So i got a bargain Thanks
Great sound
Bought this for my son for Christmas. After reading all the positive reviews regarding quality of sound, so far so good! My son is happy with it and also love the sleek smart black look of the guitar.
ice looking guita
his is a good looking guitar, unfortunately ihad to return it as it had a defect on the front and i couldnt feel happy with that. however i will purchase agai
Yamaha guita
Good value. This guitar is great to practice on and it ticks all the boxes as a decent but affordable guita
Plays quite nicely, the tone is pretty good. The finish is very nice, it doesn’t look sickly yellow like some guitars. It’s a really nice looking and nice feeling instrument. One point to note which is neither positive or negative is that there are no strap nuts on this guitar. If you want to use a strap then you will need to drill nuts into it yourself (which isn’t too hard, just look it up on youtube).
I have given 4 stars instead of 5 because although this is a good value guitar, the action is too high. On the low E string it’s at ~4.5mm on the one I received. The issue is at the bridge and the nut is low enough that if you adjusted the bridge down you would probably buzz on the low frets.
GOOD VALUE & A VERY GOOD GUITAR
Very good guitar and very fast delivery. Ordered Saturday afternoon and received less than 24 hours later on Sunday morning. Looks good and sounds good.
This guitar is lovely to play. I prefer playing it to another one that cost 3 times as much. It is a perfect guitar for a beginner / intermediate player. It is a joy to play and looks wonderful. Don’t hesitate to buy it.
When you have good discount quality items let’s me know thank.
I m 44 years old Parkinson’s diseases got so learning keep my happiness . So I’m enjoying i
Happy with the purchase
Bought it as a gift for my husband. He was trilled. Good quality for price. Shiny, no tacky colour, looks quite expensive , perfect shape. Easy to tune using tunning app.
Great value for money
My guitar teacher recommended this guitar and I’m very happy with i
Wonderful guita
A wonderful guitar. I still have much to learn, but it is a pleasure to play and even look at. I highly recommend.
This guitar was recommended by my son's guitar tutor.
Excellent and well-informed delivery. Extremely well packaged. A superb instrument for my son’s classical guitar tuition.
I am a learner guitarist who loves setting up guitars or upgrading electric guitars, the action on this guitar was so high when I took delivery it was almost impossible to play, I ended up sanding an 1/8 if an inch off the bottom of the saddle to get it anywhere near playable, how it got past Yamaha’s qa control is beyond me, saying that once it’s set up it is a nice instrument to learn classical guitar on. Very lightweight, and with new strings fitted it sounds very good. The finish on body and neck are good. All in all after a but if tinkering it is good value.
Love I
This guitar, for the price is stunning.
I only live in a small studio flat and having five guitars made the place cluttered. Decided to have a clear out and buy one good guitar.
I’ve always loved nylon stringed guitars. It’s the warm tone that attacks me. This guitar doesn’t disappoint.
Lovely tone and finish for the price.
Love it!
Great quality for the price
More than good enough for a beginner, or an experienced player. Great quality and sound.
THE best value for money ever! A quality instrument.
Best value for money ever. A quality instrument. You press the 12th fret and it isn’t out of tune at all. The sound is very very nice – strong and and satisfying. The finish on the neck will make you play faster. The lacquer on the black painted wood is superb. It’s like a black mirror, I’ve taken loads of beautiful photographs with this guitar (using it as a mirror). The thin lines on the edge of the finish and the tuning bolts are white, a fine contrast.
I can’t say how pleased I am buying this good looking and beautifully sounding guitar for just 120 quid.
Domo arigato, Yamaha!! You guys really rock.
Beautiful sounding
Bought it for my other half as a birthday present. He thinks the sound is really lovely from this guitar and loves playing i
Good quality and great value
Daughter loves it. Bought it for her birthday as she needed to move up from her beginners guitar. Good quality
A perfect entry level guitar.
I bought it to my wife who is at entry/intermediate level. She loved it.
The sound is really nice.
guitar is perfec
his was a first guitar for an aspiring musician. its’ great. packaging was slightly damage on receipt, but guitar was perfect.
Yamaha quality is unbeatable. I replaced the strings with D’Addario Pro Arte nylon core strings (silverplated clear nylon) because D’Addario string as the best and I did not like the strings it came with quite as much. Beautiful instrument and excellent value.
I love my new guita
I love my new guitar. Received compliments from my instructor that it’s a nice guitar. as a beginner, I have nothing to complain…happy buyer..
Five Stars
I was very satisfied about everything with this guitar. Good sound and quality for its price.
perfec
its Yamaha c40 what else do you want one of the best for starter and more
Perfect for a beginne
This is a fantastic guitar for a beginner – very comfortable to play and frets are all perfectly tuned, although I had to lower the action a bit to suit myself. I am very pleased with it.
Good guita
My child love it.He wants a black guitar and as soon as he received this guitar,he hasn’t putted down. He’s teacher confirms that is a really good guitar. Many thanks.
My Dad’s guitar broke just after a concert and he was miserable without his guitar. I bought this thinking that it would be a good stop gap until he could get to Spain and buy a new one. No need- he’s thrilled with it + wouldn’t change it for anything. Thanks Yamaha.
Wonderful
I LOVE THIS GUITAR. Out of all of them, she’s my favourite (yes my guitar is a she – get over it!) It has a wonderful sound, carries well. The tone is warm and rich – a very good guitar.
it sound's and fills and looks good so I love
it sound’s and fills and looks good so I love i
Four Stars
Can not fit a guitar strap onto it. Otherwise good
For the price it’s great. I would give it 5 stars however I feel it needed a change of strings from the ones that were on there. I bought the
Ernie Ball 2406 Ernesto Palla Classical Nylon strings and it sounded even better. If you are learning or just want a good budget classical guitar it’s super. The quality of the bulid is great, no buzzing on any of the frets, the action seems spot on to. Happy with the purchase.
First thing to note is this is the matt version of the Yamaha C40, which gets great reviews. In fact one reviewer didn’t like the gloss version as it shows all the finger prints. Personally, I do prefer this matt finish.
I purchased mine here in India, where I am working for a while, as a cheap temporary guitar that I would try to sell on when we move but I like it that much that I am now trying calculate if can get shipped on.The description say the top is made of spruce, which it may well be, but be aware this is spruce ply not solid spruce.
It is a classical guitar and so you will find its neck a little while if you have been used playing a steel string acoustic or electric guitar. But it sounds OK and is loud enough given it has just plywood sound board and sides. I love playing it and although I don’t play classical guitar as such, it is still a reasonable option for the finger picking style I play and sing along to.
An excellent guitar for the money, so five stars on that count but can you ever really give a five star rating to a plywood guitar?
The Yamaha C40 is very well made and affordable and I would highly recommend for anyone interested in learning how to play classical guitar.
The guitar arrived in a standard guitar box and was encased in some form of foam packaging wrap. It was in excellent condition with no scratches or anything of the like. The strings I assume are standard nylon strings and are fine for playing however I will change them to a better quality.
I have been playing guitar for many years now, I had an old cheap classical guitar a long time ago and have since been playing steel string guitars. I decided to purchase this guitar as I have become more interested in learning classical guitar pieces and find this guitar to be an excellent purchase.
From product notes above: “Contorted neck leads to comfort and good hand positioning.” I couldn’t see how that could be until I listened to the video clip. “Contoured neck leads to comfort and good hand positioning.” LOL. Bought the C40 in 2010.
Two years later and I still love this guitar.
Two years later and I still love this guitar. I just think its do nice to play and the sound just gets better..or maybe I’m getting better.
A loved guita
Great quality and sound. Bought it for my daughter who is a beginner. She loves it.
Beautiful warm resonatio
Beautiful warm resonation. I’m happily surprised by the quality of this product for the price and would say this both the novice and the expert would be pleased with this guitar.
Five Stars
My wife loves it so has to be good 🙂
affordable and looks good, sounds good too
Well made, affordable and looks good, sounds good too…when I play in tune…
Excellent guita
At first I was affraid of buying a guitar without trying it out first, but this is an excellent guitar. Sound is balanced and you can get a lot from it. Definitely my recommendation for every beginner.
Exellent.
You could spend a lot more money for a classical guitar and it would struggle to beat the C40.If you can get hold of one of these for less than 100 then you have got yourself the bargain of a lifetime. There are no classical guitars in this price range that can touch it.Superb balanced tone, great playabilty, and well made.I changed the strings to ones i prefer, but that’s a question of choice.I have owned and played many guitars over many years of playing and can honestly say this cheap as chips little gem is amongst my favourites.Overall if your thinking about giving a nylon string guitar a go and don’t want to spend big bucks then look no further.
Was concerned about this buy as not all reviews good.E string hanging off when arrived so my son replaced it.However absolutely love guitar, lovely tone and couldn’t ask for more.Think such good value and just want to play it all the time.So pleased that I bought it..
Lovely guitar.
Smooth fretboard, lovely mellow sound, holds its tune well. Can’t stop playing this.
A beginner dream
As a beginner I Really struggled with a full size steel string guitar so sold it and bought this instead – so glad I did as far easier to learn o
Four Stars
eccellent ive just bought alambra classical 400pounds not much difference
I’ve purchased many Yamaha guitars and keyboards over the years and have never had a problem with any of them. This guitar is no exception to the rule, it looks lovely, it’s well made and set up and sounds a treat. You couldn’t buy better at this price and I would venture that even for a significant amount more you couldn’t buy better. If you’re thinking about buying this guitar I can’t imagine that you could be dissapointed.
Quality, Affordability and great results, Yes Yamaha have done it agai
Quality guitar that sounds even up and down the fretboard and has a nice feel that makes it one of easiest guitars of this type I’ve played, I’d even say I prefer it to other makes of guitar costing 3 times the price. Can’t go wrong for this money
Five Stars
fantastic, my daughter was so happy with this present, thanks will purchase from yourselves agai
Fantastic buy
Beautiful sound. Lovely to play. All the good reviews I read about this guitar have proven to be true.
Sounds and feels like guitar costing twice as much
Well made, lovely tone!. Sounds and feels like guitar costing twice as much. Recommend!
Perfect starter guita
perfect starter guitar, holds tune well and is easy to play.
... worth spending the extra 35 quid to get a better classical, This one has a much nicer tone ...
lovely guitar its worth spending the extra 35 quid to get a better classical, This one has a much nicer tone to it and feel that those generic 50 quid jobs.
Excellent..
Excellent… Looked at reviews before purchase that were mainly good, and, have not been disappointed. Good mellow sound, keeps ‘in tune’ for long periods. I’m not a professional but very happy.
A good instrument, a great pleasure to play.
I had read the reviews about this guitar, but still surprised to find it was such a good instrument. Exceptional value for money and a delight practice on.
Love it! My old fat fingers have plenty of ...
Love it! My old fat fingers have plenty of room on the fretboard . Beautiful mellow sound even when playing “Rock my Soul in the bosom of Abraham”
Great quality for the price
Excelent guitar for the price. By best buy so far.
Love the tones of the strings
Lovely instrument and is giving me hours of pleasure. Love the tones of the strings. Would definitely recommend this guitar.
This is a well made and good sounding instrument. Although it is all plywood, it sounds good, with decent volume, good intonation and a pleasing tone. For the money it is a very good beginners instrument, or for occasional nylon players who want a cheap but decent quality instrument at their disposal. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could but have given it 4 because of the fret finishing. Although they are level and well positioned, they are rough. Any vibrato on the would strings makes a gritty sound. Because of this my wound strings have quickly worn through the outer wrapping. It’s an easy fix, remove the strings, mask the fretboard with masking tape and polish the frets with Autosol metal polish or Brasso. Then buff, remove the masking tape and then lemon oil the fretboard. You kind of expect to do this on cheaper guitars but a lot of beginners will not realise that this is required and really the frets should be further finished at the factory – I’d happily pay 10% more for the privilege. Still, a very good and playable instrument for the money, just polish those frets. With regards to the action, mine is fairly high, but probably the height that would be used for classical. It’s easy to take down so I can see why they ship the guitars like this.
Good price, great quality!
Amazing Guitar! Sounds is fabulous and very easy to play…Delivered on time and as described. I am very happy with the purchase, great value for money! Definitely recommend it for beginners.
Great value and he really likes it To get started ...
Bought for my son, who is a beginner. Great value and he really likes it To get started also buy a digital tuner for a fiver.
so I reckon it's as good as it gets in this price range
Feels too light, but it seems to be very well built, decent sound and volume, 5th and 12th fret sounds right according to my tuner, so I reckon it’s as good as it gets in this price range.
I have owned acoustic guitars for many years including some top range steel stringed stuff. After my last mid- range solid top Spanish guitar was broken I just needed something to fill in for a while. I didn’t expect too much, but the reviews were very positive and the Youtube reviews very promising (especially the ones where the guitar was tuned properly!). I got the Amazon Warehouse deal, almost 27% cheaper than full price. I have just received the guitar and tuned it up. I am really impressed – it looks great – not the sickly yellow colour of some very cheap guitars. This is important to me – I don’t want cheap looking stuff around the house. It is also unmarked, perfect in every way! It plays well and doesn’t sound quiet at all when fingerpicked. The bass notes sound particularly sweet. It is a bit subdued for finger strumming, but that isn’t what it is really designed for.
I can’t really praise this guitar highly enough, and for the price it’s a must have. It also has the advantage of having the Yamaha logo and name- easier to sell on later. I think I will keep this one though.
Update January 2015: I have just replaced the original strings with “D’Addario Pro-Arte Ej45 normal tension” The guitar sounds much better, they feel brighter and less muddy than the original ones. I play this guitar every day and I like it even more than when I bought it. It gets bashed around the house and whacked by a toddler quite a lot, and there are no ill effects on the guitar. I use it mostly for strumming with a pick, and for fingerstyle blues – it is quite convincing at that. If this guitar gets broken I will buy another one, no worries at all.
magic
I am in love with this guitar, looks great and sounds great. The factory strings are poor quality and don’t last long-so be sure to have a spare set or two.
Brillia
This guitar was recommended by my son’s guitar teacher, and it is very good quality for the money.
He is only 8 years old, and has no trouble at all playing this full size guitar.
Highly reccommended.
Great first guita
I’ve found this a great guitar to start with (not that I can compare it with anything), and would happily recommend it to anyone considering taking it up. It doesn’t seem to need tuning as often as I thought it would, which is an added bonus.
Best value classical.
This is well made, stays in tune and sounds good. I sanded the bridge down by a few mils to lower the action If you are a beginner, don’t bother ,but this makes it easier to play on the higher frets. This sounds good when you hammer it a bit, flamenco chords and fast scales all sound nice. Played with a picado or rest stroke technique it sounds lively, loud and bright.
This is not a solid top but it is spruce and rosewood and I have not come across anything remotely as good for the money.
I have tried many brands of strings, but I think D’Addario EJ45 Pro-Arte Normal (.028-.043) Classical Guitar Strings sound and last best.
Fab produc
Lovely sounding guitar and easy to handle. Great value for money and a great first guitar for Anyone starting ou
ice look
The sound is good and I am satisfied with it but there is a problem which I think refers to the manufacturer, the forth string is broken on the place of second fret…
But as a whole it is a good guita
Great value for money
I was surprised by the quality of this guitar. It plays great, stays in tune, intonates very well. An ideal starter guitar in my view. Went for the natural finish which looks great and for some reason, is even cheaper than other finishes. A nice compact size perfect for a child.
Excellent produc
The product was excellent, a really good tone, the delivery a nightmare I had to drive a 50 mile round trip to collect!
Excellent product fit for purpose
Purchased for my son as his first guitar, it was good value for money, delivered in a timely manner and an excellent guita
buy buy buy
I highly recommend this guitar, easy to use, nice sound, great price, high quality, fast delivery. My daughter is very pleased wit this guitar she loves to play on i
Very good!!
The guitar is extremely light, but the sound is very good. It is a little hard to play, but you can better thus reducing the height of the strings.
Recommend too!
Great sound quality, good sustain and a full founded tone especially when using apoyando, even on the inferior factory strings (change them asap though).
Unusual in black gloss (watch belt buckles), but a good starter/intermediate instrument as you would expect from Yamaha.
Very pleased.
This is a great guitar for the price. I also have a Martin guitar but I prefer this one as it is light, stays in tune, sounds good and it doesn’t matter if I scratch i
Great guita
awesome guitar!! just the right size, not 2 small not 2 big. Easy 2 tune and very strong. Great produc
Excellent value
Lovely sound & quality. Bought for my daughter. She is about to do her Grade 3 guitar her 3/4 guitar is now too small.
This guitar is fantastic. I wanted a nylon string guitar, I have a collection of guitars, good quality brands but for the price
this guitar is brilliant, the action the sound the playability, it is now one of my favourites. If this little guitar was twice the price
you would still not be disappointed.
fantastic sounding guita
having had a 1/2 guitar and a 3/4 guitar, the sound quality of this one is pretty amazing. I wasn’t wiling to spend a fortune as my son has only been learning for 3 months, but this is good enough. very impressed. I was advised to spend at least over 150 to get a decent guitar, but I think that’s necessary for the time being….
my best friend
it is very good to start playing guitar as a beginner. it is handy and worthy for the price. But the only problem was the its post box. The post box was tear and wrapped with tape. Once I saw the box I thought the guitar is broken over delivery. when I opened it was completely safe and sound 🙂
Very good quality guitar for a very reasonable price. Excellant for a beginner or medium grade musician. Light and attractive.
excellent quality guitar, bought for my daughter to do her grades on. Her guitar teacher said it is a very good quality guitar and will work really well for her. Looks so cool and really glossy!
This is a fabulous sounding classical guitar which looks great too. A lot of guitar for the money! Thoroughly recommended!
I have been playing guitar for over 30 years, mostly classic rock on a Gibson Les Paul. I also enjoy flamenco, classical and neo-classical and this guitar fits the bill as a second instrument for the more gentle stuff. Very well made, great tone and volume. The price for value is excellent.
I was originally going to buy the C40 but my attention was taken by the reviews of the Yamaha F310. Yes the F310 is a fantastic instrument, a real beauty, but no one said how difficult it’d be to reach the other side of the guitar. I’m not that short in the arms, but I was straining to reach over to play the strings with my right hand, bruising my under arm and my fingers were getting sore. Why on earth didn’t anyone say how much smaller the C40 is compared to the F310? I was thrilled when I unpackaged the C40. This guitar is an absolute gem. I can reach over, easily and I’m not fighting to keep the guitar on my lap as it fits a treat. It makes the most beautiful sound and a further plus point is that my fingers are not suffering as they did on metal strings. The C40 has to be the nicest beginners guitar for quality and sound without breaking the bank. I thoroughly recommend it, especially, if like me, you don’t have long arms, and you want to keep some skin on your fingers. Delivery was so fast that it came before expected, and whilst packaging was pretty minimal, it was perfectly safe.
5 star item, fast delivery and great sound quality ( al least for me)
def I would recommend this to a beginne
I’m really pleased with my Yamaha C40, I used to play an Yamaha CG-100A years ago, so I knew what to expect from Yamaha guitars, and I wasn’t disappointed at all with my new C40. It’s good for everyone. The sound it good and the guitar is nicely made. Only comment – the bridge could have been varnished but it doesn’t affect an overall performance of the instrument. As an entry level guitar I would definitely recommend it to everyone how is looking for a nice guitar at good cost.
I been playing since 1987, and I got one of this a few years ago as a present. I had many guitars of really good quality that cost a lot more than this, and this one is just as good. The construction is flawless, and the mast feels very good in the hands. It stays in tune, and it sounds great.
