Well sized bag for the price, does what it says on the bag, super fast sprouting grass for me in just 7-10 days, super pleased with the results for the minimal prep needed!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is good grass seed. That said, although the area seeded was spread evenly, it did grow in patches and had to re-seed certain areas to get correct growth. Other than that, no issues here

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSeeds arrived next day ,thanks prime delivery ! They are definitely not turbo fast ! For 2 and half weeks nothing germinated and I nearly gave up. But then on day 18 little shoots of grass started to grow and that made me . In a week or so its growing fast ,only thing grass coming is quite patchy but it might be my bad soil. Birds and pigeons love these seeds! I covered the seeds with a thin layer of compost ,that helped. Overall with a little patience you get good results.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHad some bare patches left after building work. Loosed compacted soil, raked it, sowed seed, covered seed, lightly compacted it, then dampened soil (not wet, or it can wash the seed away) every day when it didn’t rain.

Plus chased off the greedy wood pigeons that’ll quickly hoover up seed (Lucky I’m awake at 5:00am otherwise I’d have no seed left!).

80% success, some small patches didn’t germinate, I’m guessing either seed was washed out by heavy rain or rodents/birds stole the seed. Either way happy with the results so far.

Resealable packet a bonus compared to the boxes that often leak/spill and prone to damp causing spoiled seed.

Good value per kilo (worked out at 9.22 per kilo) to than some others at the time of purchase.

Like the headline says, this germinates and grows really fast.

A friend gave me half a bag to repair some dog-pee damaged patches and these germinated back in May. I sowed these straight after cutting my lawn with no prep at all, within five days I was amazed to see “Baby Grasses” (little green hairs) coming through. I watered diligently keeping the soil moist for another week, by which time my “Baby Grasses” were already about 10 cm tall. I then left it unattended for 2 weeks while I was away on holiday and by the time I came back, these were fully matured grass plants around 25cm tall.. And able to take a heavy strimming/mowing down to 25mm…!!!

I was so impressed that I bought another bag and completely stripped back my front lawn with moss killing lawn sand which made everything go all black, I raked out the thatch and sowed a heavy sprinkling of these seeds and sure enough after five days they’d germinated, today 8 days later on they’re already between 2-5 cm tall with new “Baby Grasses” appearing daily thickening up the lawn nicely.

These seeds produce a really fast growing tough durable lawn. I would not recommend these for a lazy gardener but for anyone with kids/pets who has the time to mow weekly (or even more often); they’re amazing… I finally have a thick green lawn at the back where previously I had a patch dog’s toilet and I’m sure my front lawn will be amazing by the end of the summer.

I think putting words like “turbo”in a seed description is not a great idea. It gives the impression that it will germinate at a rapid pace. Well it might do so under “ideal” conditions but this Is the UK and conditions vary from region to region and from day to day.

I followed the instructions carefully and spread seed on a number of bare patches which were the result of mole damage. It took the best part of two weeks for green shoots to appear. Now a few weeks after that the grass is looking pretty good.

As well as proper preparation and careful watering there is also the loss of seed to pigeons who, as other reviewers have said, seem to love this seed.

So a satisfactory result for me and as long as patience is shown results can be good.

I’m delighted with this product. I have attached before and after photos, you can see that patches are filled in and the new grass looks very healthy. Instructions are easy to follow. I will definitely buy this again.

    Great results

I used this to fill in some patches where the dogs wee has killed the grass. I tried to follow instructions best I could but I wasn’t seeding a whole lawn. I used a fork to create some holes, scattered seeds, trampled and watered. Repeated same a few days later. It’s been a couple of weeks since then and do have some shoots but not complete coverage so will just keep repeating as I have plenty of seeds to this.

I had a pretty bad moss problem on the lawn at the rear of our house. I managed to take out the majority of the moss and simply replaced the bare patches with a mixture of this grass seed and peat. The lawn looks great.

This grass seed comes in a large resealable pouch.
I put the seed down as soon as I received it and within 3 weeks I have grass. It will need more time to thicken out but it looks and feels great already.
I spread the seed in 2 different ways. One way is I throw it straight into my grass, and for larger patches I mix it with compost Then spread it. It seems to work well both ways.
It says it’s dogs urine resistant but normally that means there’s rye in it but I can’t see that listed so we will see if it is.
It says it contains seaweed which I know is great for laws. It’s full of lots of wonderful nutrients for the garden.
We have clay soil so I’m
Very impressed with the results so far.
My only negative is that it’s not easy to spread evenly, i scoop it in my hands and shake it. Where as a lot of other grass seeds comes in boxes with an applicator
It’s a really good value for a large bag.

I have quite patchy grass – some areas are quite water sogged which makes it difficult to sow grass however this worked! I simply turned some soil over, spread the seeds and put the soil back on. A week or so later, it has sporuted and a week after that, it has taken well so I am happy with this product. The product is also resealable which is brilliant.

As long as you keep the grass seed wet/moist it does grow extremely fast.

I’ve used this bag for overseeing my lawn and filling in patches and already I can see in the dead patches the seed has already started to grow and it’s been less than a week. This is a bag of good quality grass seed that as long as you follow the instructions and keep it well watered will work quickly

his is a decent size bag for the money, it comes with very clear instructions, i have put some down to try, even though it is a little early in the year yet, but i am curious, looking forwarded to using on other parts of the lawn when weather warms up/ no chance of fros

Although I have lost a fair bit of this to birds, what is left has now started to germinate and I sowed it ten days ago. I just do not seem to be able to keep the birds off any grass seed I sow, even when it says it is birdproof. I think it is because we back onto a nature reserve and have just so many birds around. So as far as the grass is concerned it is coming up quickly where I have sowed it and as it came in a very large bag there is loads left and I am going to sow more, but this time using a bird proof membrane over the top as I think it is going to be the only way to ensure it is left to grow.

It is early days but we are starting to see the signs of shoots now.
We are repairing out lawn just in time to put the pool down again for summer.
However, this will be great when summer ends and we do it all again.
The resealable pack means the leftover seeds will stay intact for when it comes to sow again in autumn.

Seems like a good grass with a good germination rate.

This is marketed as turbo grass seed. There is a good amount in the bag plenty to reseed our lawn. We have recently sown this and it hasn’t grown yet but I will come back with a review when it starts to grow.

Review Update is at the bottom of my initial review on this product.

We recently cleared a flower patch in our garden which left a big round hole of dirt, as a result we needed to reseed this area in order for it to grow grass and hopefully match the rest of our lawn.

The product is described as Turbo Seed with germination in as little as 7 days. I totally understand that this is ideally in perfect conditions and most probably in almost laboratory conditions, but the marketing hype sometimes is slightly misleading.

I laid this seed 8 days ago and covered with a coating of topsoil. Following the instructions on the packet to the letter. If i am being honest i highly suspected it wouldn’t germinate within the 7 days, i have purchased super fast germinating seed before from big brands and it has never worked within the time period advertised. My garden pictures show the planting day and day 8, as you can see nothing at this time. Despite excellent, warm and sunny weather and watering every day.

The positives are this seed does appear to be good quality. You get a 1.3kg bag in a resealable bag. So there is a lot of seed to spread around a big area. I did overseed the main lawn in order to get it to match as much as possible. I only used a fraction of the amount of seed in the bag. The price is comparable to other seed i have purchased in the past. The seed is also apparently coated with growmax which helps the grass establish quicker.

I am quietly confident this seed will grow, it’s just not really turbo seed. As we have a dog this type of seed attracts a premium price also, so being dog friendly is a plus.

If and when this seed grows i will update my review accordingly. Fingers crossed!!

    Promised – UPDATE 11th May 22

So this seed has finally grown and the results are great! I have added two additional pictures to my review to show the grass now that it has germinated. Coverage is excellent and the grass is a really deep shade of green. It actually outshines my other grass. It’s definitely not turbo and took around 3 weeks to germinate, but it was definitely worth the wait! I have upgrade my star rating from 3 to 5.

I hope that you found my review helpful.

Definitely Not Turbo - But When it Grow's it's a Lovely Grass! (Updated Review)

I always scarify my lawn in late autumn and whilst it recovers well over the intervening period between then and early spring, it tends to require a bit of over-seeding in places so that it’s ready for the summer season.

I make my own dressing using potting compost, sharp sand and grass seed. I’ve used all types of grass seed including the ‘turbo’ types and to be honest, I’ve never found one that gives consistent results. Up here in the north of Scotland, the soil doesn’t reach optimum growing temperature until May and even then, grass seed will take a good few weeks to germinate. The only sure-fire way to get fast growth is to either fertilise the soil or rake in some compost a week before sowing, sow the seed then cover it with fleece to reduce heat loss and bird ‘pilferage,’ and then water it daily. Even then, the fastest germination I’ve ever had was seven days. In my opinion, a good degree of patience is required!

So, this grass seed is actually good value. Its suggested application rate is a bit lower than average at 35 grams per square metre for new lawns and only 17 grams for over-seeding. Generally speaking, 50 / 25 is the going rate so it’s economical to use in that regard.

I’ve over-seeded the lawn today but it’ll take a good month or so to see how long it takes to germinate and what the new grass looks like after it’s had time to grow and develop after the first cut. I have to provide a review promptly after I’ve received a product but rather than spout a load of old twaddle about it, I’ll update this review with something meaningful in a few weeks’ time.

My lawn is was mostly weeds for a long time. Most of them are dead now after about two weeks after i applied this. It did not burn or kill the actual grass. I spread it very evenly with a handheld broadcast spreader. Watered it once a day for the first week. I can’t soak on the “feed” portion. I really feel like it didn’t help the existing grass. I only wanted to get rid of the weeds anyway and it did a pretty good job of that considering my lawn was probably about 75 percent weeds. I will be using at least a couple times a year to keep the weeds out. You may still need to spot treat the tougher weeds that are very deeply rooted. I’m going try a natural vinegar spray bottle for those ones that are sti there.

We have had a fox or 2 digging holes in our lawn, so I filled the holes and reseeded a few weeks ago using some seed from Gro-Sure that has a special coating to prevent the birds from eating it. All I can say is that the coating seems to work well (the birds haven’t touched it), but it just hasn’t germinated at all — not one new blade of grass, from what I can see.
So when I had the opportunity to review this pack of Avern Turbo Seed with GroMax, I jumped at the chance.

You get a large re-sealable plastic bag, containing 1.3KG of Avern’s Turbo Seed with it’s GroMax coating, which the manufacturer claims will, Improves establishment, Stimulates root growth, Improve tolerance to stress and enhances water and nutrient uptake.

The grass is said to be hard wearing, which should be great for us as my little boy loves playing outside in the garden and the label says it contains: 40% Double 4Turf Tetraplold Perennial Rye, 20% Esquire Perennial Ryegrass, 40% Maxima strong creeping red fescue.

    ***** Installation / Usage *****
I am using the seed to fill some patches and to then over seed the lawn to help thicken it up in places, so I have cut the grass and then raked up any moss and grass cuttings. The raking also helped to scratch and loosen the soil. I filled the holes with compost and then scattered the seed, before walking all over the lawn to help push the seed down. Finally, I watered it in (being careful not to wash the seed away).

    ***** Conclusion *****

I am writing this review early on, so currently cannot comment on the grass itself (I will update when the it has grown / or not, should the case be).

I do like the resalable packaging. My previous seed came in a more environmentally friendly cardboard box, but I’m not convinced it is good for storing the product.
You get a decent amount of seed in the pack (1.3KG), which I believe is enough to create a new lawn of around 37 Square Meters (35g per Sq M), or to over seed a lawn of around 76 Square Meters (17g per Sq M), and the price seems pretty reasonable.

This 1.3 kg pack gives you a huge amount of grass seed. The quantity is equivalent to around 3 bags of sugar, which is good because, at the moment, I’m worried there isn’t enough rain to get the seeds to germinate.
It is packed in the UK, and tells you what the mix is made up of. However, I cannot see a Defra certification. Normally I prefer Defra certified seeds. However, it is possible that this costs and the company do not wish to incur the cost of joining the scheme because this pack does appear to be good value.
It gives you instructions. It recommends that if conditions are dry you water the area the day before you do the sewing. If it doesn’t rain you need to water it every day. You can plant this from March to September.
The photograph is currently the before photograph. I will update.

    No Defra ce

After the winter and walking on wet grass in the garden, there are a few patches I need to repair and this grass seed looked like it was just the job. Fast-growing robust see with an accelerator to help the seed get established is just what I need.

The seed comes in a simple but water-resistant and lightproof bag, so I can use it a bit and keep the rest for another time. Of course, it’s easy to sow and I just hope the birds won’t eat too much of it.

I can’t tell you how successful it is yet, but I think I’m beginning to see little shoots where I planted it. Hopefully, in a few more days, it will be obvious that it’s growing. You get a lot of seed in this pack, so it is suitable for virgin sowing on large areas, as well as repair jobs like I’m doing.

At 12.49 for 1.3kg, it seems to be the average price and assuming it grows well I’ll be happy with it. The description does give a lot of attention to preparation, sowing, timing and care, so The’ not so good’ reviews here may be that the grass does not grow for some of those reasons. I’m very happy with what I’m seeing so far, although tiny shoots, I’m sure they will soon grow.

We’re in the process of changing our garden from gravel to grass and needed a big bag of seed. This doesn’t disapoint.

The instructions are nice and easy just turn the soil and stamp it down then scatter the seed and water it. You should get shoots within a week or two. If it is hot or windy scattering some sand over the top can help keep the seed in place and boost success rates.

I’ve just planted but seed looks to be good quality so i’m sure we’ll have a garden ready for summe
