DMT D8EE 8-Inch Dia-Sharp Continuous Diamond Extra-Extra Fine
The DMT Difference
Diamond Uniformity, Coverage, Surface Flatness
DMT uses micronised monocrystalline diamonds, precisely sized for a more uniform diamond surface. No other diamond sharpeners offers micronised monocrystalline diamond and most offer the lesser grade poly-crystalline diamond. Mono-crystalline is like an ice cube made up of one particle holding its form while poly-crystalline is like a snow-cone made up of many small particles that get sheared off during use.
Coverage: DMTâs process assures the most diamonds per square inch in the industry providing a more durable sharpening surface.
Surface Flatness: DMT bench stones are engineered flat, assuring even contact with the knife or tool.
Choice of Diamond Surfaces
Interrupted or polka dot surface for which DMT is famous has slightly recessed holes that will collect metal fines (swarf) removed during sharpening to prevent loading. Fast sharpening action; not recommended for pointed or very small tools.
Continuous surface presents a more conventional looking sharpening surface. Fast sharpening action; able to use on small surface edges.
HardCoat, DMTâs newest proprietary surface, is able to withstand the rigours of ceramic sharpening, providing an even longer service life to the sharpener.
DMT Commitment
DMT is committed to providing the best diamond sharpeners in the marketplace. If the sharpener is found to be defective, we will replace it.
Benefits of The DMT Difference
- Precise Diamond Sizing for Consistent Sharpening and Longer Life
- Best Diamond Coverage for Longer-Lasting Service
- Flat Surface for Even Sharpening

Portable Sharpeners
DMT offers an assortment of very portable, hand-held sharpeners that provide easy storage in home, shop, truck, back-pack or RV. Made to sharpen an array of knives and tools while portable enough for on-the-go sharpening. Interrupted surface models include Diafold, Mini-Sharp, 4-inch Diamond Whetstone; continuous diamond surface stones include 3-inch Credit Card Style, 4-inch stones and Mini-Hone sharpeners; one Double Sided Diafold is available in the HardCoat diamond surface, designed to withstand the rigours of ceramic knife sharpening.
Sharpening Steels
Most steels are designed to align a knifeâs blade, but DMT diamond sharpening steels in 10-, 12- and 14-inch models will both align and hone the blade. All are continuous diamond surface but one 12-inch model is offered in DMTâs HardCoat diamond surface, specifically designed to withstand the rigours of ceramic knife sharpening. For those who wish to sharpen with ceramic, DMT offers a 12-inch ceramic steel sharpener.
Bench / Counter Stones
DMT offers a nice selection of diamond bench stones from 6- to 12-inch lengths of varying widths to accommodate home, sport and tactical knives along with a mixture of DIY and woodworking tools. Models include interrupted, continuous and one DuoSharp model in HardCoat diamond. Models include Diamond Whetstone, DuoSharp and Dia-Sharp bench stones.
Guided Sharpeners
If you are unsure about sharpening, try one of DMTâs sharpening systems to assist with proper sharpening angles. All systems revolve around the 7-angle adjustable blade guide utilising either 4-inch diamond whetstones in the Aligner models or Double Sided Diafold Sharpeners in the MagnaGuide line. The blade guide can also be used with DMTâs bench stones.
Care and Use of DMT Diamond Sharpeners
All models are designed to be used dry or with water so there are no messy oils and extensive clean up to worry about. Always clean the DMT sharpening surface after sharpening. Rinse surface with water and wipe dry. After several sharpenings, clean more thoroughly with a mild abrasive and brush; rinse surface with water and wipe dry.
Always put away dry and store in a dry environment. Use leafing (paper towels, cloth, plastic storage bag) in between your bench stones to prevent abrasive sides from rubbing.

About Sharpening with DMT
Get the Most out of your DMT Sharpener
There is a âbreak-inâ period for your diamond stone. Initially, it will feel especially rough but will smooth over time without impacting performance. Let the diamonds do the work; just light strokes with the edge to sharpen, same number of strokes each side. Approximately 5 or 6 strokes per side (depending upon condition of edge) compared to 30 strokes per side on a conventional stone, saving time and extending the life of the knife or tool. Start with a coarser grit for damaged or dull edges and work to finer grits. The work the edge is to do will help you determine the grit needed: Rough work, end with coarse grit (cutting cardboard); finer work, work through finer grits (food preparation).
- Initial break-in
- Light strokes to sharpen â let the diamond do the work
- Faster than conventional sharpening methods
- Rough work â coarser grit
- Fine work â finer grit

Great set of stones for a great price. Well worth the money if you sharpen knives with high end premium steels such as M390 or other high hardness wear resistant steels. Just as good as DMT stones, but much less expensive.
Need to remove metal? This is the DMT stone you want. I use it to re-establish a new angle on plane irons. The work great. Once angle is established, going through the rest of the DMT’s happens fast.
Absolutely the most aggresive stone I have and I have more than 20 stones. I wish they radius the edges like this on all their stones.
I bought three different grits and after a month of use all doing well seems like diamonds are well bonded to plates all seem to work well and I finish with a leather strop with green compound

I had many manual, quick sharpeners but this one beats them all. A large slab of imbedded diamonds… it should. So far it fulfils my expectations ( teamed it up with a nice leather strop).

This sharpening plate works great. I have several different sizes. Takes some time to break in. Ships fast.
Bit expensive for this coarse a grade. But very flat and strong.
Liked the thickness of the plate; good for flatening of stones.
I bought this instead of the Trend double sided (300/1000) I was initially shopping for because it’s a lot less expensive, and I didn’t think I would need a 300 grit that much. I’ve read you need to break them in, and decided to do it by sharpening a blade I didn’t care about much. My Swiss Army pocket knife is the epitome of my belief that good steel rusts. It’s stainless, and fine for what it is, but not fine cutlery. A little time on this, followed by a few strokes on a strop, and my cheap but handy knife is sharp enough to shave with. Not a great shave, but still..
I also bought the extra-extra fine. No complaints there, either, but maybe not as useful. It amuses me that that one has a label to show the other side has the diamonds–both sides are so smooch, it’s hard to tell by touch. Ultimately, I think I will buy a super fine ceramic stone, but I don’t regret either of these DMT stones.
When I turned to chisels, I soon realized the extra-fine is too slow for flattening the backs. I decided I needed a coarse, and/or fine, to start the flattening or grind out nicks. I decided to get both. Then I saw the Trend for a good deal less than it had been. Rob Cosman uses the Trend and a 16000 grit Shapton, and that looks like a good system, so I decided to spring for the Trend now, and maybe get the Shapton later. Probably should have done that to start with. Now I have the 300 grit I needed, plus the 1000 grit side, plus another 1000 in the DMT, plus the 8000 grit xx fine. Little bit inefficient on my part. That said, I may yet buy the coarse and fine DMT to make a set. After all, you can’t have too many tools…
Meanwhile, saving up for that Shapton. I am not mentally well.
UPDATE: The more I use these, the better I like them. Tried them on a really good chisel. Takes patience with really hard steel, but results are worth it. Turns out that xx-fine is worth having, too.
Great product and well worth the price.
It’s useful for people who need to reset the bevels on plane blades and chisels that don’t have a bench grinder. If you use a honing guide with a brass wheel it will wear that wheel quickly. As a result I place another diamond plate upside down from dmt next to it and run the wheel on the smooth side without the wear issue to my honing guide.

Just got it a few minutes ago and broke out sharpening some of my knives. It is super easy to sharpen. It is flat and works super great. I am used to using japanese water stones, which also work great. But like many things, they need some attention before using, you have to soak them, then make sure they are flat and then you have to rotate them to get even wear, then flatten them again. Not too much work, but compared to these diamond “stones” the water stones are a lot of work.
This diamond “stone” is pretty much wet it and sharpen. Cause it is steel it doesn’t warp or wear away. Perhaps if you are really into abusing it, I think you could somehow hurt it. But barring anything that extreme, this stone will be flat, and sharpen your blades easily and effectively. Really just wet it and start sharpening. It’s that easy. Wipe it down and perhaps a coat of oil to keep it from rusting and you are done. I will say it doesn’t feel like you are doing anything until you feel the burr and it took half the amount of strokes to get there. Now if they made something with a higher or finer grit, I’m down to get that one too.
It is heavy so, don’t drop it. It probably won’t get damaged, but it will surely hurt you if it falls on you or perhaps your terrazzo tiles.
The quality of the diamond plate didn’t seem as good as the sharpal diamond plate but got smoother after break-in period ,I think they could clean them up better in their manufacturing process considering they claim to be the best , they work well, scratch pattern not 100 percent consistent maybe it will get better with further use.
Great product. Fast cutting compared to aluminum oxide stones. I free sharpened four large kitchen knives in the time it takes to do one small knife on a Lansky. Produced edges that were sharper than new.

Good solid diamond stone that took a lot of abuse flattening sets of Narex chisels and new plane blades properly so I could keep them sharp on finer stones. Cuts nice and fast and keeps doing it, also great for flattening out your finer grit water stones with.
Just pretty much reprofiled an old kitchen knife with a 600 grit fine stone!! These stones are very very effective. Normally you’d need a 120 or 240. Ive been hand sharpening for a couple of years now with wetstones so am pretty experienced. This stone is exceptional and ideal for beginners. A 600 grit stone is normally a third stone before a 1000 and then 4000/6000 polish. However this 600 is way more effective than a 600 grit wetstone so the results are immediate and significant. All I can say is that they work a lot quicker than wetstones so take it easy with new or already sharp knives. Burr creation is profound so very easy to tell when youve apexed. Even old difficult to sharpen knives wont last two minutes with this thing, so glad I found it. I follow a guy on youtube who taught me how to sharpen, look him up. His youtube profile is OUTDOORS55. His name is Alex. He got me into DMT stones and gives great tutorials on every day sharpening using cost effective stones. No need for Japanese chosera stones at 200, get one of these american imports, sharpen from a fine stone and then strop to shaving sharpness!

You can find yourself in a Zen like state when sharpening your chisels and plane blades. You won’t rest until the edge will slice into paper at 90, and then find yourself looking for more things to sharpen. I have four DMT diamond sharpen stones, and they have almost changed my life. I am a much better woodworker for instance having really sharp tools. The courser DMT diamond sharpeners are fast, and will always be flat. The 1000 grit extra fine, and this 8000 grit extra extra fine sharpeners do not feel like they are doing much, but they makes a heck of a difference to how sharp you can get your edges. If I had just one tip, it would be to make sure you get a bur — usually with 400 grit in my case — before moving to the extra fine, and extra extra fine sharpeners. I have a rotary leather strop, but I have gone back to MDF with buffing compound and Brasso. (I use a 10X loupe to see if I have a bur or not). I also hone with the chisel or plane blade still in the guide, because I ‘think’ this prevents the edge being rolled over. The tools certainly do the paper cut test better with this methodology. One more tip — the roller on my sharpening guide had flat spots and did not feel nice to use. I turned a new roller out of plastic, and I swear this is doing a better job. It does not make sense, so it might just be that it is whisper quiet, but it all helps to get you into that Zen sharpening state. 🙂
These are excellent. I have the course, fine and extra fine 8″ Dia-Sharp stones/plates and use all 3. The course grit works well to redefine a beveled edge for a blade with light damage, chipping or dings. Once I’ve done 5-6 strokes on each side I switch to the fine grit stone and do the same. At this point the blade is sharp but not razor sharp. I switch to the extra fine stone to finish the edge and make it sharp enough to shave.
Don’t over press or over sharpen. Steady medium pressure for 5 full strokes per side. Lubricate with windex rinse with water when done and store dry in open air wrapped in paper towel.
Takes practice. Watch YouTube for details. It’s not hard with a little practice. Long knives are trickier than short ones. For everyday kitchen knives you only *need* the FINE stone. I only use the extra fine when I run out of things to sharpen. If you could only have one get the 8″ FINE stone.

I bought this Diamond Plate looking for an aggressive cutting stone to regrind the primary bevel on my chisel and plane irons. I’m impressed by how fast and well this stone cuts. I found it faster than my 8″bench grinder and easier to get consistent results as I can set the angle with the same jig I use to hone my irons after. Added bonus, it can be used to keep your water stones flat too!
Strait out of the the box did not look like it was gonna be coarse enough.but after first use wow this this thing took an old 1″junker chisel of mine back to a clean edge very very fast.only time will tell the rest as far as longevity.
I now have four diamond sharpeners. Three of them are DMT with this being the most course, all the way up to Extra Extra Fine 8000. It is perhaps ironic, but this plate (I never know whether to refer to DMT sharpeners as plates, stones or sharpeners) is proving to be one of the most useful. It can reprofile something like a 1″ chisel from a multifaceted and rounded disaster, to a beautiful flat bevel in less than five minutes. It really eats metal, and like all diamond stones, it doesn’t clog up. I use Window cleaner btw.
I gave it four stars for value, but that should probably be four and a half as it was a lot less money than the DMT fine stones. Durability is looking like a three stars as I can see places where I am wearing through the diamond coating. You need to be careful with the outer edges, and not use it with slightly rusty metal, like restoring old planes for instance.
All in all though, my DMT sharpening experience has been incredibly positive. My tools are far sharper than ever before, and you would not believe how nice a big kitchen knife feels to use after honing down to 8000 grit. I do actually use a motorized leather strop that I made to finish off with green buffing soap.
Great stone uses for sharpening my chiclet. New to sharpening so it took awhile to get the edge I wanted. Will have to get a course one as I used the fine during the whole process

This is fantastic and removes metal aggressively. It works well when I need to set the bevel or lap the back of my tools. This saves me time and effort compared to sharpening on my previous water stone.
