I bought this to keep in my rucksack so I could clear footpaths blocked with fallen saplings. Ideal for that purpose, though a blade guard would have been nice. Reasonably lightweight and robust. Blade sharp and effective.
I had some shrub roots that I just couldn’t get up but I dug a hole so that I could see them and the saw cut through roots of at least 1″ diameter easily. Great stuff!
This is a great tool to add to you garden shed. It cuts through thick branches like a knife through butter, very little effort.
Neat, compact, easy to fold and undo and easy to use in practice as the blade is extremely sharp
An essential tool for any garden !
I like it, it appeared to be surprisingly good quality product, rather robust and easy to use. Exactly what I was looking for.
Great product. Used it, just once so far, to prune a Cherry Blossom. It glided through branches up to 2 inch diameter effortlessly.
Nice shape when open and folds away safely. It doesn’t seem high quality when you see it first, but I expect it to last for a long time.
Great little device. I took down too small trees today hydrangea and a eucalyptus. I didn’t need to apply hardly any pressure the branches came right off. Highly recommended for prunning and for taking down small trees.
I didn’t think this would be any good but it went through would like butter I’m really glad I bought this to help me when I go camping
This thing cuts like butter! 25 to 30cm Holly trees, 3 days of chopping & my only regret was not buying 2 of them. Could be a little sturdier I guess because the blade is quite flexible, but it didn’t cause me any issue. If bigger it would be unstoppable.
It’s a good saw buy I found the screws came lose after. It too lo g
Was a bit confused because of the choice of saw’s for a decent bit of sawing/pruning of an Apple tree, eventually chose this one, and so glad I did, it was very robust, and did heavy work with no problems at all, it’s a great Saw!!
I am pleased with my pruning saw purchase. It’s easy to use, has a comfortable grip, and is not too big. It’s sharp and cuts efficiently. A good buy
I bought this specifically to prune my trees, not wanting to use a normal saw and this works well. It’s lightweight and fits in smaller spaces than a normal saw would, very sharp (so far) and cuts on the pull stroke. Very pleased with it.
Great little saw for the garden we have trees and Ivy growing over from the neighbours garden and it got the lower branches out the way so easy
This is great I used it for a load of ripping out and cutting weeds, its sharp enough and sturdy enough for a variety of weeding
Excellent, sharp, and well designed pruning tool. Love how it folds neatly into the handle unlike my previous one which didn’t and was less easy to carry around/store.
Very sharp saw, easy to use and good that it folds. Cuts threw small branches in seconds. Haven’t tried anything bigger than 3inch diameter.
Original finally went blunt after four years of use and replaced it with the same one. Very sharp and cuts on both forward and back strokes. Makes cutting thicker branches very easy. Not the cheapest, but would go with this one every time – you get what you pay for!
Very nice quality pruning saw and does all it needs to do. comfortable grip and easy to use. One point of arning…take care when closing the folding action. some tend to grasp the release button and leave their fingers in the way of the blade as it closes. Yes, I’ve seen this happen! Good buy and one of the best saws around.
The saw came promptly and was well wrapped.
The saw was easy to open and close (Just remember to keep you fingers out of the way when closing it!).
The saw worked well on some ivy hanging into our garden with stems up to about 30-40mm dia.
When I first unpacked the saw I thought it was too little and too light to be able to do the jobs I needed it to do. How wrong was I, its an amazing little tool and wouldn’t be without it. All the thick branches of a 50 year old hedge have now been chopped and disposed of.
Compelled to review the excellence of this piece of equipment. Used constantly since December cutting through a forest of trees and branches. The singularly bit of gardening equipment that cannot be bettered or improved upon. Having tried numerous hacksaws, ripsaws and chainsaw often heavy, cumbersome and awkward, this magic tool is cutting through 6 inch trucks effortlessly with no decrease in blade efficiency.
On the back of the package it says download instructions from website, could not find them on web site. Did email but no reply.
Overall a good saw that I would recommend.
Pro’s – easy to open and close, blade folds into handle fully, good grip, cuts through 6″ branches easily, easy to carry in a backpack.
Con’s – blade can twist if cutting action not smooth so just take long atrokes and let the saw do the work!
This tool is very useful quiet sturdy for what it looks like cuts well it does seem a little loose after lot of heavy handed use but is locking in place absolutely fine. I am very pleased with the safty locking as it locks if you try to close it without holding the switch keeping your previous finger’s safe
I have quite a long mixed hedge Holly, Hawthorn, and Blackthorn which is in need of thinning. I used the pruning saw for the first time today. I was able to get in to the thicker branches without difficulty and the saw made a good clean cut. Very handy indeed.
What a tool! I have used this saw to cut the top out of a 10+ meter tall willow. It cut through 70 – 80mm branches with ease. Much easier to use than a bow saw, and safer! The blade is remarkable. It is the sharpest blade that I have ever used and never gets jammed. I know that this sounds like an advertisement, but I promise you that it is not. Trust me, it it worth every penny. There is no sign of it loosing its edge, but if it does, I hope that I can get a replacement blade. I would definitely recommend this tool.
I’ve used this saw for pruning and thinning an out-of-control hedge, also for cutting through logs for the fire.
It’s very sharp, cuts quickly and is comfortable to hold.
I can never use a saw, but as a keen gardener trying to prune thicker shrubs with shears and secateurs is not easy. Saw these and the reviews were excellent and it was a really good small size for me to handle. All it was supposed to be, really easy to use.
This produce is perfect. Easy to use and folds up to make it safe.
It makes a very good job of pruning and cutting fairly large branches.
I bought this saw to replace a previous Davaon saw purchased in June 2018 as the bolt that enables the saw to fold had come undone and lost during pruning. The saw is extremely sharp, easy to use and makes light work of any pruning job. Would highly recommend
Good but not as efficient as the Spear & Jackson one it replaced. Teeth are smaller and don’t cut quite as easily. Still a very good saw though.
This pruning saw is brilliant, I cannot praise it enough,I had 9 conifer trees to cut back to the trunks, it cut through some branches which were about 60 mm diameter with ease, and also you can saw in tight areas where you couldn’t use a traditional saw, you could use both hands if needed, I liked the fact that it cut on the back stroke, my only negative is the fact I wanted to purchase a spare blade, but I didn’t see that feature on the web site.
Brilliant pruning saw! Easy to grip and use. Cut through everything with ease, very sharp and just the right size to squeeze into the right areas. Compact and easy to store away.
Very good saw with very sharp blade (as the nicks to my hand attest to – wear gloves!) The bright green body seems a little ‘loud’ until you drop it in a pile of cuttings and it becomes very easy to see!
Great little saw for the price. light weight but seems durable, perfect for pruning. This saw Is VERY SHARP so I would recommend wearing some decent gloves when your pruning.
I bought and returned the Mossy Oak saw, instead going for this one. Thicker blade (but still not like a Swiss Army Knife), so already more robust than the Mossy Oak one. Looks to be Stainless (I hope), about 1.5-2mm thick. Doesn’t come with a carrying pouch. I suspect the Stihlones must be the best in class. Lets see how I get on with this one.
Personally, I hate it, my wife makes me do the hard jobs of cutting the larger branches etc I will admit that the superior cutting edge on this to makes life a bit easier, but I’d much rather be indoors.
This is a very sharp saw, however on the first attempt of using it to cut a branch the tip has snapped off. Bit disappointed but for 12.99 can’t really complai
Cuts very well and cleanly . Blade is quite long so there is some flex. When you close it occasionally have to guide the end of the blade into the recess into the handle as it may not not line up . Overall pleased with product.
Product arrived quickly and as promised. Seller very communicative and followed up to ensure all ok. Have not used as yet but will be pruning in January…..will have to be careful in opening/closing as it looks lethal and I’m quite clumsy!!
One important thing to stress; LET THE SAW BLADE DO THE WORK. There is no need to exert any pressure in order to cut through a branch. Exerting pressure on the blade makes sawing more difficult.
Thoroughly recommended.
I wanted this to cut down a small tree in my front garden, started it off great but half way through i could already feel the blade becoming a little duller and i didn’t feel as safe using it, although i’m sure it would be fine and i don’t regret buying it as i always have branches from other trees and shrubs to cut.
Item is well made and does the job well. Needed to trim some thick branches off a tree. It made the job easy. I was a little worried about it folding when in use, but I didn’t need to be as it locks into place. Very happy with product.
Bit cheap and deals flimsy. Good for limited use. Not an every day use tool.
This saw has a very sharp blade. On arrival the blade is folded into the handle, you have to pull the blade out and lock it into a cutting position. Equally you need to hold the handle, depress a knob and fold it back into the blade for storage. If you are careless you could fold the blade onto your fingers or have some other sort of accident.
the blade cuts well and is best suited to sawing across the grain. The whole saw is fairly compact and can get into small spaces. There is very little set to the blades so it can jam in the cut. this can be avoided by bending the branch enough to keep the cut open.
Great for pruning heavier branches too big for the loppers.
Brilliant little saw. Was a little wary of whether opening and closing might be dangerous, but it proved simple to operate, and seems really strong for the gardening jobs I bought it for. The sellers give an excellent service, too, emailing instructions for use and making sure I was completely satisfied… I am!
Made light work of a well established English Ivy that had Stems of 1-3 inches thick. Blade is sharp and grip is comfortable – after a couple of hours it was still slicing through stems with no blisters.
Well pleased and a good addition to the gardening toolbox.
This is a quality item and I wished I’d bought it years ago. It made very light work of thick hedge branches/roots I removed for laying a shed base. Great value and I can’t think how it could be better even if it was much dearer. Quality.
This is incredible. It has a much better blade, with lots of cutting teeth and It cut through really thick trunks of buddleias, really easily. I feel secure using it, it feels strong and more than capable of doing the jobs I need it to do. I’m very impressed with this. It genuinely has made some hard jobs much easier. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
I bought these along with their telescopic lopping shears as I have some overgrown conifers. The shears have done the trick for what I need so haven’t had to use this yet. But I have no doubt that these will do the tougher job for larger diameter stems when needed as Davaon manufacture excellent quality products.
Very useful pruning saw, but working in tight spaces a slightly less flexible blade would be good.
However, apart from the minor comment, the pruning saw is very nice to use and does the job.
Very handy and easy to use. Cuts through 2″ – 3″ branches very easily.
This is a fantastic little saw that made quick work of all the dead wood that needed clearing from my willow tree. It even got through a fairly large branch with relative ease. Being able to adjust the angle between the blade and handle is handy when trying to get to branches in awkward places.
I am very pleased with this. I have recently been doing a lot of cutting down of old shrubs and a bit of tree surgery, and this has gone through everything I have tried it on with no trouble at all. It has enabled me to do garden jobs that I could not have tackled before. Excellent product.
I used one for an hour before ordering and it worked fantastically.
I quickly researched on Amazon and learnt a bit about them from all the designs and some were survivalist angled, others more for budget gardening. I noticed that the carbon content was important.
Yours seemed to be the best price for the carbon and triple cut blade is good. Also being the most popular on Amazon too helped.
So I’m looking forward to camping with it.
Thank you for such a useful handy sized tool.
I was able to cut down my neighbors eye sore of a tree with this bit of kit discretely and quickly in the hours of dusk.
It went through his tree like a warm knife in butter.
He’ll never know what’s struck him!
So this Davalon Pruning Saw was its replacement. I am impressed as I was a bit concerned as I did not recognise the make and I needed a sturdy item.
It is really good. Already I have reduced my Cordyline tree by 2/3 and that the wood is very dense. No problem.
Had to saw some well aged Oak fence posts that were really solid. Again no problem.
So Really pleased with it.
The Seller also made the effort to produce a useful guide. Made it clear that help was there if needed but everything going smoothly so far.
Sharp, easy to use but a little less sturdy than I was hoping fo
These are by far the best bypass secateurs I have used. As I have small arthritic hands I find these easy to use due to the rotating handle that can be locked for the smaller hand. Comfortable to hold and not heavy at all. Excellent.
I read a review saying this was the best saw someone had bought. It sold me. And they weren’t lying. I am so pleased with this purchase!!! I am a petit woman and I have been able to cut down some pretty sizeable branches and trees with this thing no problem. It super easy to use and definitely get the job done. Don’t hesitate, just buy. It will expand DIY possibilities.
This pruning saw is light, safe, easy to use and highly effective. Great value for money. A bonus was an email from the seller (without the need for prompting) with detailed guidance and advice on the safe and effective use of the saw. It certainly does everything the seller claims and has already made a big difference. Thank you.
I love this saw! Had a few branches that I needed to cut down for some time and didn’t want to pay a gardener and this enabled me to do it with ease. I have now removed the branches which allows the sunlight to come
Into the garden. Some of the branches were quite thick so I was pleasantly surprised. Very sharp and effective and makes branch cutting light work
Very easy to use, thankfully. I’m a few months shy of 70 and while in pretty good healthy I did break my right wrist five years ago and its never been quite the same since. The fact I can hold the saw in my right hand and use it with ease is a huge bonus.
Super sharp blade. Cuts through branches very well. The blade may seem like it could be more sturdy but I guess that’s how all saws are made. Very happy with the product though.
Have bought a number of Davaon products – they are all very good quality and do an excellent job.
This saw is the larger version and is excellent. The ridged teeth cut pretty much anything with ease and has an ergonomic handle that can be used two handed if necessary. Would recommend.
I bought this saw to replace a smaller one bought years ago. This saw is well worth the money. You have to let the saw work through the wood and it cuts on the backwards stroke. I felt I was pushing it going through 6” tree trunk but it managed it well. The seller sent separate instructions by email regarding looking after the saw. Great saw and great service.
This pruning saw is comfortable to hold and is equipped with a locking button to hold it in the safe closed position.
By pressing the button you can pull the blade out into three different positions for convenient cutting angles. The blade is fairly robust but can flex under too much pressure and with a very sharp but coarse cutting edge it is advised to apply light but firm strokes. Have only limited use with this saw since purchased but for branches up to about 1 inch diameter it does a good job for me.
Like this knife as as secateurs weren’t being helpful to cut down a bush from fence. It worked a dream had the bush/tree down in no time. Never had one before,a great tool in my gardening kit.
Perfect for what I needed it for. After years of struggling to cut the bottom of the Christmas tree to fit it into the holder I said this year I need a saw to make that job easier. It is perfect as it folds so doesn’t take a lot of space, fits into my tool box and the blade and my hands are protected. Blade is vicious, cuts brilliantly and transformed one hour into a 10 mins job. I will use it on my allotment as well. It’s sturdy and easy to hold at different angles. I totaly recommend it for how functional it is and price wise. Looks good too 🙂
Light weight, good grip and very sharp – handle carefully.
Has safety release button and three saw positions.
First position is primarily for blade release whilst second and third is for cutting respectively.
If your cutting a thick branch, make sure you choose a good angle before starting.
Use smooth swift actions or take a breather before continuing further, as blade can flex or wobble slightly if your are not careful.
I am very impressed by this very useful garden tool, which arrived the day after I ordered it ! I have just used it to prune a large Ceonothus and I had no problem at all cutting through the thicker branches. It has a very sharp blade. The saw folds away for easy, safe storage. The seller emailed full safety and maintenance instructions before the item arrived, which I thought was very good customer service. I am very happy with both the Pruning Saw and the first rate service from the seller.
The Davaon Pro Pruning Saw appears to be a well made and sturdy product. The hand grip has a comfortable and re-assurring feel that it won’t slip in use. I like the way that the blade safely locks away in to the handle for safe storage and that it can be set at various angles to make the job of pruning easier in difficult situations e.g. where the branch is close to the fence. or a wall. All in all, I have found it to be the right tool for the job and I am very happy with my purchase.
so bought this saw with a view to use it primarily as a bushcraft too, needed something sturdy and able to fold down to save space and maybe a little weight. to date it has been an excellent tool, its got a great grip, very comfy to hold and use and rips through wood at rapid rates of kntots. The blade cuts as effective as ever although it has had much use in its short life with me and I was so very much impressed that im thinking this would make an excellent gift for a fellow outdoorsman..so, highly recommend this saw…
You still have to work quite hard to cut through branches more than cm, but it does the job. I can’t get it to lock in a 180 position. It either clicks to a smaller or larger angle. Overall convenient for smaller branches, maybe less than an inch diameter.
Very sharp and does the job. However, the handle could be better for such a large blade. The blade can wobble and get stuck, you have to be careful when using it. I already have the smaller of these saws which is more robust but of course does not cope with large thicknesses. Overall it is value for money and I would recommend.
This is a comfortable saw to use, easy to grip, and cuts extremely well once you get a rhythm going; it’s cutting branches/trunks 6-8″ in diameter without too much difficulty, and makes short work of them once felled, along with the loppers.
Overall, a good-quality saw, comfortable to use; just like any tool, it’s important to take good care of it during and after use.
Sorry to say almost as soon as it was used the small spring loaded divers crew or whatever it is at top of handle came out and couldn’t be found. It must be said however that this was just one of those things and in the past I have found this tool far superior to its counterparts and extremely good value for money. It is an ever present on our farm and I would not hesitate to continue to purchase this product.
The metal Spring clip securing the blade in folded position is strong and easy to use to both open and close. The handle is incredibly comfortable; I held it towards the end of the handle and the curve at the base seems to fit the hand, and it’s soft to hold. The blade looks quite fearsome. I first tackled a branch that was just too big for loppers. I took the seller’s advice; let the blade do the work. In other words, there’s no need to apply pressure. Once the blade bites the wood, holding it lightly I quickly found a sawing rhythm and to my astonishment, the branch was off in literally seconds. I was delighted and removed half a dozen thick hawthorn trunks in just a few minutes. I tried it on a larger sycamore branch, pushing 6″ in diameter. It sliced through it with very little effort. This tool is going to transform my garden with relative ease. I’ve had other pruning saws over the years; none have matched this and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Good item, arrived within a couple of days. Does the job well of pruning a few shrubs. Blade does bend a bit as you are cutting but they do cut through several inches of a buddleia shrub and also an apple tree branch. Good safe design and am very happy with this product.
A bit difficult to get started on the sawing as the blade slips slightly but after this it is fine.
As a 60 yr old women with pretty bad arthritis in my hands I have to say it was so easy …. the saw went through ancient 3-4 inch diameter ivy stems like a knife through butter… it is scarily sharp!!
Will report back if it dulls quickly or anything like that but right now its great.
Unfortunately the end has snapped off after cutting some 2 1/2 inch diameter willow. I must have slightly twisted the blade on the pull stroke and the end is quite pointed so may be a weak point. Perhaps this size of cut is a bit large for it (but it was doing a good job until then).
I can still use the blade, its only a 1/2 inch missing and the rest of the teeth are fine.
The quality blade can be locked at various angles to deal with awkward cutting angles. It also does not bend too much when under pressure.
The handle is excellent and fits in the hand nicely making a secure grip.
As I have said it is a quality product and I expect to get many years use out of it.
Very strong and versatile saw. Excellent value for money. Great at cutting through branches anywhere up to 2 inches (5cm) in diameter. Folding action allows easy access to trickier angles than a normal saw would manage. Only one complaint is that after 6 weeks of use the screw came loose from the bolt and get lost. Saw effectively useless unless the bolt is replaced, which I’ve been able to do with a longer bolt that sticks up. Now looking for a smaller one!
23/10/17 update
Emailed company asking for the cost of a new bolt and they sent one for free the next day. Superb customer service. Changed rating to 5 stars.
Works really well and makes light work of cutting branches. Feels a little plasticy and flimsy when moving from one setting to another but seems sturdy enough once in position. Also be careful when closing as it is easy to nick a finger if you don’t watch what your doing…obvious i guess but it is easy to overestimate the force needed to close it.
