I had another from a shopping Channel but never really used it as never seemed to work to well. but after
buying this one from DR OTEK, is great with the digital display and easy and good quality feel,
I ended up buying 2 now for my Family member who also loves it and both been finding coins and other
objects along the coast. with the Club that you can join up to as well with lots of free ebooks to help with your journey this also has made this purchase a great investment for my Health and hopefully one day my pocket. also a good idea to get some rechargeable 9v Batteries .

The detector is quite strongly made, once you have worked out how to put it together. It is a good idea to practice with a few items hidden under a carpet, so that you get used to the different signals for iron, silver and gold. The detector can locate things that are quite deepl in the soil and so far I have had no problems with moisture. This piece of kit is fairly lightweight and not too trying on the arm. The bad news is that my wife has the knife-cum-trowel that comes with the detector is also rather useful in the garden.

I have never owned a metal detector before but wanted to try it out on a holiday so decided on the MT-XR package, and I am not disappointed.
The unit is very easy to assemble and lightweight, but still feels well made. The screen is easy to read and the different modes indicate the type of metal and approximate depth. The volume control is good and it also comes with a set of headphones, although I have not used those yet.
The unit had a built in pin-point function which seems accurate, although I did also invest in a separate Dr Otek pinpointer.
The digging tool included in the kit is very sturdy indeed and the carry bag looks hard-wearing. The included instructions are pretty sparse but there are more details instructions to download from the website.
Overall I am very pleased with the detector and would definitely recommend it as an entry level for beginners wanting to try out the hobby.

Arrived on time. Detector is lightweight, and controls straight forward to understand. Only used on beach so far and found tent pegs, nails and couple of coins. Dry sand ok, wet sand have to adjust settings or will give many false readings. Had a couple of strong signals but then disappear, not sure if detector issue or inexperience. Also purchasing a pin pointer could be useful

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBeen wanting to buy a detector for some years, well since I was a kid! After looking at the Amazon reviews decided that the Dr Otek kit was best suited for myself as a novice. Not too hard to put together and comes with a great little digger. After only having it a few days and after watching & reading the free videos and ebooks, have ventured out into my back garden! Some strange beeps at first, but that’s just getting used to the sounds. Hey presto 1st find a UK 1p … woo hoo I’m rich. Seriously though, really looking forward to expanding my horizons and getting out into the wild and beaches of the North West of England. In summary looks great, feels sturdy and does what is says it will do for an entry level detector.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersDR. OTEK MT-XR Metal detector

In my first review of the DR. Otek Metal Detector MT- XR, I only have positive feedback to report. I found the product facilitates a surprising selection of settings to detect different materials. The gadget is well designed and makes treasure hunting an ideal and very convenient means for any person seeking what is buried.

The product excels in its depth of detection of various kinds of metals.

I find MT-XR exceeds my expectations and I have already made progress on my first attempt. I have only just set out on the treasure hunting platform and I am very satisfied with my choice in metal detectors after extensive research.

Thanks to Dr Otek for this excellently designed product, that I also wish to include has been very affordable. I am now ready to launch my new career as a treasure hunting Pirate. All I need now is just a ship and a decent crew of scurvy knaves.

    The happy digger

strong plastic or adhesive smell right out of the box, the bag is a bit odd shaped and smaller than i expected. the included shovel is awesome and solid quality, the headphones are fine, semi flimsy with some hold.

great kit for the money, i am a beginner to metal detecting and this kit is awesome, going to try some local beaches soon

Update, detector is faulty, phantom beeps in mid air. Wrong identification. Inconsistent readings of the same objec

I haven’t given the metal detector a full on try out yet but testing it in the garden and on a fossil hunting trip up the coast from where we live. I did try it on the beach it worked well. No buried treasure though. It’s solid in construction, light weight and the display is easy to read and understand furthermore the pinpointed works pretty well. As a complete novice I don’t know what to expect but it appears to do what it’s supposed to. Will be off to a beach that was used during WW2 and an ancient woodland soon so hopefully that will be the true test. I’ll try and update after that.

Well this is my honest review on the MT-XR.
For the price of this machine I was very impressed I purchased it because my top end machine broke and wanted something to use on my holiday and didn’t have big funds for a new detector. So with that did it work on the beach yes it did not only did it work very quiet and not picking up false signals watch the video you will see how quiet it is and just to add with that it was on full sensitivity as well again I’ve seen top end machines on the lowest sensitivity just going crazy on the beach.
Did it work on Land yes again very impressed it definitely knows what coins are are picked up quite a few already I haven’t had any crazy finds yet but up to 8.57p after about 10 hours of usage.
Build quality is pretty spot on my only complaint is the coil lead to the box doesn’t screw in so it can pop out apart from that no complaints it’s a nice and light machine would I recommend it to someone with a low budget or a beginner In a heartbeat 100% a very impressive machine.

Easy to assemble and a breeze to use. My 10 year old is in the garden now getting used to the different modes. There are plenty of targets as it used to be a building site and the detector is very good at distinguishing. Build quality seems excellent. We will be going down to the local beach in the next couple of days to see what we can find. Highly recommended.

Cannot fault this. I’m no expert, I’m a beginner, however it does exactly what I want it to do. Turn it on, and off you go, if there’s anything under the earth, this will definitely find it, and that’s what I wanted, I metal detector!

I ordered this item, excitedly waiting I was then disappointed to find it had clearly been opened and re-sealed, then I found ingrained dry earth in the underside of the detector ring, so not only had it been opened, it had been used. Didn’t want a used one, paid for a new one, which fair play to Amazon was sorted in one call and I had a replacement the next morning. All I had to do was drop off the return at a local shop, and sellotape a postage label to it.
Now that I have the replacement, I’m so happy, it’s a fabulous wee bit of kit. Simple to use but it has a LOT of features for the money, feels perfectly well made to me, light enough to not hurt and heavy enough to feel rugged and able to cope with life. I’m happy I bought the kit version, the storage bags and the smashing wee multitool were defo worth the extra few pounds (the kit was reduced at the time I bought it). Five Stars for me, easy.

Bought this for a starter metal detector. Didn’t want anything too expensive and this was well within my budget range. Arrived on time and well packaged. Clear instructions on how to assemble and was working within 10 minutes. Yet to use it due to weather conditions and will update but I like what I see and is lightweight.

I really love this detector. As you can see in the photos I found some amazing old silver coins, old copper coins and old buttons with this machine. I mainly use the discrimination mode and jewelry mode a lot since it won’t find some iron prices like nails. This detector is also perfect with its depth signals it can go so deep and it’s just amazing since I can find older stuff. It’s also handy when the detector shows the depth so I don’t have to guess how deep the signal is I just have to look on the right and see the depth. I think it will suit beginners but also experts. It’s really light weight easy to carry around. Would also like to add how pleased I was with customer service as on delivery there was a small part missing, I contacted customer service and they got back to me asap and was sent replacement part no hassle and received within couple of days. If you’re thinking about buying this detector I would definitely recommend go for it, you won’t be disappointed.

Superb upgrade and excellent customer service

This device is astonishingly handy to work with. It detects easily metal objects on 4-6″ depth. Even though the pinpoint function works well, a hand-held pinpointer will help you locating the find.
One star below five because of this shovel thing. The plastic cover on the handle slides off and it is nearly impossible to fix the blade property. Any little spade of shovel from your random garden center will be better…

This is a very good metal detector for the price it finds coins up to 10 inches deep which is just as good as good as my AT pro. The pin pointer is surprisingly accurate and discrimination mode lets you discriminate junk, iron ect, memory mode allows you to search for a particular metal by waving it in front it will only detect that metal I tried with a gold ring worked perfectly. You won’t find a better metal detector than this for the price.

After a good search online we settled on the DR.TEK Lightweight Metal Detector Kit as our first venture into the world of metal detecting.

As total novices we used it for the first time yesterday and, once we had got the hang of using it, it performed exactly as stated. Whilst we did not strike gold, as it were, we were finding items in less than ideal conditions at various depths and sizes which gave us a great deal of confidence that it would be ideal for our intended use.

Very happy with it so far.

Did what it is supposed to do straight out of the box.

As this was my first metal detector I was a little apprehensive about it but that was soon quashed. I’ve been out with the kids and we have had great fun exploring and finding treasure all while digging holes and getting dirty, it is a fun little kit and has inspired an interest in the kids so very happy with it.

They have offered to replace my detector with no hassle at all so very happy to change my rating. I really didn’t expect them to listen but happy to admit I was wrong. Excited to try out the Otek once again.

Update: seems to beep at something and nothing it’s good for the price

Within a few hours i found coins and other metal objects, a metal hammer head, nails etc. Discrimination works too when used.
I buried a time capsule in some woods over 30 yrs ago with my children. I decided to try and find them. The detector did find and accurately pin point the place and depth of 8inches. There were 2 little plastic jewellery boxes each with little plastic toys and hair clips and 4 coins in each 1991. It was great that the machine picked up the coins through soil, leaves, box and plastic bag. fab machine.
Not tried beach yet but very hopeful.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDR tek MT-XR Metal Detector Review (January 2022)

Hello there, here is my HONEST review of the Dr tek MT-XR metal detector. Firstly I’d like to say that I am a complete novice to metal detecting and I have never owned or even been metal detecting before!

For years I have wanted my own detector but Ive never really been able to afford one. So just after Christmas I decided to buy my first, and after watching countless videos and reviews of the MT-XR I decided to take the plunge and buy one. I got it for just over 120.00 from Amazon. And being a prime customer I had further discount on top of the already discounted price.

I received the detector in the post a few days later (after the bank holiday early Jan) the box was well packaged and secure, and I was very happy with the service.

The detector itself was extremely simple and straight forward to put together. And within 5 minutes I had assembled the machine with no hassle. It’s very lightweight and very easy to use. There’s a decent amount of settings on the machine that any novice can easily understand. (Like me) The detector takes a simple 9v battery which does come included in the box to get you started. Although I would suggest buying a rechargeable 9v battery if you’re going to be keeping the machine for a long period. As the cheaper battery included isn’t the best. But that really isn’t an issue.

Like most people I couldn’t wait to try out the detector, so straight away, just as the sun was setting I decided to have a quick walk around in the garden using the jewellery setting and 3 bar sensitivity and started walking around.

    (Here comes the exciting part)

So off I wondered into my back garden and started swinging away. Sure enough after a few small signals and digging a couple of bolts/nails from the ground I had a decent 80+ signal pop up only about 4 inches down. I dug my little hole into the soil and unearthed a bent coin shaped bit of metal. I quickly filled the hole back in and rushed inside the house to get some light on it (as it was dark out and I left my phone inside the house) After a gentle wash with warm water, the coin I found was a actually a, Hammered Edward 1st Silver Groat!!! Roughly dating from 1200AD. I was over the moon!!

Now after nearly a week of ownership I am really happy with how the machine operates and feels. It’s such a great machine for novices and beginners like me, and anyone could easily use it. The tones are good and the finding depth is brilliant. And it’s yesterday, I also found a 1874 Queen Victoria Penny. I’m super happy!

I decided to buy the bundle version which included the carry case and tool set for digging. Which arrived in the box and are very well built. The tool is heavy duty enough to dig through rough hard soil and the pick axe On the back of the tool is brilliant for helping move the boulders from the deeper holes.

I give the machine a solid 10/10 rating. I’ve also registered the detector through the website which now gives me 2 years warranty, and in doing so, I received 10% off my next order.

Thanks for taking the time to read my long review. Stay safe, and happy hunting!

    Jon. (Wales, UK)

As a a beginner I didn’t want to spend to much on a machine, so after reading lots of reviews not just on the Dr Otek but others too. I opted for this one and glad I did, it is lightweight and easy to set up and use and even though it has only been used in my back garden at the moment it seems to be fine and I can’t wait to get started properly.
Customer service were really helpful when asked for advise.
Used normal headphones with volume controls and it’s fine.
Just need to purchase a few tools etc and I’m sorted.
Would highly recommend at this stage of use.

I found the metal detector easy to use when i had got used to the settings (there is a few) i also found the built in pin pointer really useful. I also got a rain cover for the screen and a small pouch which slides onto a belt which holds a small shovel which can fold up or be used as a pick axe as well and it all dismantles into a handy carry case! so far i have found loads of different things ranging from ring pulls and old cans to coins including a silver king George the 5th Florin and an old kids matchbox truck which i dated to 1950’s. I like the way you can set it up to ignore scrap metals and go for the more interesting stuff. I did find sometimes i got “false” readings but that was down to the minerals in the ground and if you are near a lot of power cables/pylons. overall its a good detector and you will find things! the best way to do this is to scan slowly until you get a definite double beep from the machine and then use the pin pointer to locate within 2 inches of where the item is. It can be adjusted for anyone from 4ft tall to 7ft tall and it also has a handy back light but this will use up quite a bit of battery power (supplied with a 9V battery). The battery lasts me about 4 outings which if i was to total up the time i would guess about 10-12 hrs. I would recommend this unit as its not that expensive but has features you would find on a more expensive machine. I was lucky enough to get this detector for 116 ( cause i had prime membership) including the carry case, the pouch for the mini shovel, the rain cover and the foldable shovel. check the pictures of the extras i got and some of the things i found with it.

Good quality with a lot of nice features

I bought this for my dad, we’ve obviously opened the presents early out of shear curiosity, I watched countless videos and reviews on the product and couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

I’ve set up a coin garden to test it out and it work crazy well. It picks up every metal I had to hand including sliver, gold, copper, iron and aluminium. All metals were set at approx 7 inches.

The unit is easy to put together, easy to ajust.

Build quality is fantastic, screen is very clear and easy to use. All the functions are very easy to use too.

    Honestly couldn’t be happier.

    Dr otek, thank you

Absolutely thrilled, hours of fun, awesome product, well put together, couldn't be happie

To be honest I haven’t assembled this yet as it’s a Christmas present. It looks great and the reviews are really impressive. I have always loved the notion that I could find buried treasure but that doesn’t really matter. The thrill is finding anything that’s not visible. As I mentioned I have always wanted a detector and the the tv show Detectorist definitely made my mind up. Not only have you got a chance to find treasure or list items it’s healthy outdoor exercise and a chance to have some fun. Don’t know why sellers don’t suggest watching the show as it’s a great advert for people who want to socialise and exercise – and potentially unearth something ordinary or extraordinary. I will post another review after Christmas and when I use the detector. I’m nearly 60 and for the first time in years I’m counting down sleeps.

The detector was delivered on time. On opening the box I was surprised how light it felt but was pleasantly surprised when I assembled it and realised that the light weight was a plus point, it was easy to assemble and the instructions easily understood. I spent a while getting myself familiar with the various modes and settings but again the instructions were easy to understand. As a relative newcomer to metal detecting beginner I am eager to get out and try my new equipment but going by the other reviews I won’t be disappointed. I spent a while reading reviews as I wanted to be sure I bought the right equipment for my needs and skill level and have to say I’m over the moon with my choice. A well deserved 5 Stars across the board.

I was looking for a great entry level detector to start a metal detecting hobby. Did some research and came across this great product.

The product was very easy to assemble with the clear instructions given. Everything fits as I should and seems pretty durable. As I bought this as a kit I also received a duffel bag to store it in when transporting.

Comes with 1x 9v battery which is great as some products don’t do that, although I would recommend to get some extras to take out with you. Seeing all the great reviews on this product I decided to go for this purchase and I’m glad I did.

If you looking for an inexpensive way to start a new hobby I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

This is a great metal detector for the complete beginner. It’s very good value for money. It finds really deeply buried metal.
The deepest thing I have found so far was a metal boot protector/ plate/ seg that was nearly 3 feet under. It discriminates well to prevent loads of iron finds when hunting coins.
I’ve taken this out to 4 fields and 3 beaches so far in the 4 weeks that I have had it.
The ability to remove the lower end of VDI number means you can concentrate on metals other than iron. The pin pointer is brilliant. This allows you to determine the place where you’re going to dig your “plug” and find the item.
I’ve had it running on a cheap 9 volt battery for over 12 hours and it’s still running. I think it’ll need a replacement on my next day out.
It’s not heavy and doesn’t strain your arm when sweeping. The height is easy to adjust and coil is waterproof for beach days.
Find a local club or Facebook group and join in with their organised digs. It’s a great way to get out, breathe in some fresh air and get digging.

This was given to me as a birthday present as I quite fancied some detector work at a beginners level during my retirement.
Looks a tidy bit of kit, easy to handle and reasonably light but with the instructions a little complicated.
I think the kit should be supplied with a selection of test pieces for its initial set up and to enable monitoring of its performance.
As it is, the purchaser has to scurry around looking for various bits of metal and items to check the set up and operation.
This includes American coins which are difficult to find in the UK.
Perhaps the instructions could include a list of items obtainable in the UK that could be used for test purposes.
I’ve not ventured out yet on any discovery ventures, only in my back garden.
Sadly I have not found any pots of gold there!

The detector was easy to assemble and is very lightweight. The controls are easy to use and it is straightforward to operate once you’ve had a reccy through the instruction manual.

Out on a first dig it correctly identified “treasure” ( a 2p piece, 25 cent euro, milk bottle top and a solar light stem) lol, however, I was very pleased with the accuracy as a newbie. The pinpoint function is excellent and I have now ordered a Dr Otek pinpointer to assist in finding the target once the hole has been made.

Overall I’m pleased with the machine and would recommend it. I’m looking forward to getting out there for more detecting shortly.

I have always wanted a metal detector since i was about 10 years old. I would have loved to have been an archaeologist, diggin up old bones, pottery and treasure. Now at 50+ I have my wish. It is so exciting hearing the dectector buzz and it does not matter what you find its the fun it gives me. I would deffinatly recommend this product that has given me hours of fun. It is also light which helps a lot as I have arthritis and carpol tunnel. It gets the family together as the kids love to do the digging. Easy to put together. Found a few coins and that was just the garden.

    It works

Having just bought a house on a plot in an old village , next to a 400 year old church and the site of the old smithy, I thought it could be virgin territory for a detectorist. The dr otek has many good reviews and recommendations. It was very easy to unpack and assemble. The instructions are mainly easy to follow although obviously not written by a fluent English speaker. I was prospecting very quickly. It’s very intuitive and easy to use. After a few hours use I reviewed the instructions more carefully and refined the way I use it. The pin point mode is especially useful. So far I have found lots of nails and bits of metal but no treasure yet. I want to get back to it most weekends. It’s good value and lots of fun so far.

Just getting into the hobby of metal detecting so didn’t want to spend lots of money on top of the range equipment. I searched the internet for entry level metal detectors and came up with the usual established brands with their brand price tags, then I saw the Dr Otek MT-XR, the price was right and it promised features only found on more expensive intermediate models, so what was the catch. Had they sacrificed build quality or performance. I searched the internet for meaningful reviews by experienced metal detectorists but found there were very few such reviews. The few I did find were very favourable so I gave it a chance and purchased the MT-XR.
It arrived promptly and in good condition. The MT-XR was easy to put together and as well as being light weight felt sturdy. It came with a battery so I went outside and created a test bed using nails, ring pulls, and Uk coins all buried in the earth at varying depths from 2 inches to 8 inches. The machine correctly identified the target and its depth, the pin pointer mode was useful and accurate enough to locate the targets.
I have to say that the MT-XR has lived up to the good reports I had read on it. For the price I could not have found a better device. As to its durability only time will tell but from the sturdy feel of it and its performance so far I expect it will last me for some time to come.

As a newbie, couldn’t find anything with all the beeping it drove me mad.. Watched a few videos and realised I was missing lots because I wasn’t using it right! Used a further 3 times and whilst still getting used to it, this finds things way further down that it states. From foil to keys and coins we are finding it all. I am impressed with how light it is. The pin pointer… Wow it’s fantastic. Pressing pinpoint the beeps change and the find is right in the centre of the coil. After buying this is read a few bad reviews and thought OH NO… What have I done, well I did a good thing. I love it! Genuinely it really is great and can’t wait to see what I will find next!! I would recommend this 100% Now I just need a Pin Pointer tool thingy!!

After reading reviews for years and talked myself out of cheaper machines and I did not want to spend hundreds of pounds on a machine, after reading the reviews for this machine coupled with the reasonable price I finally ordered a machine!. The item arrived quite quickly and I must say initially I was shocked at how light the box was in a bad way, after I unboxed the machine and built up I soon realised that the lightness was a real bonus and that this detector was a sturdy well designed bit of kit. The instructions were great and it was really easy to build up and test out using the quick start guide on the orange sheet. I was excited to use an immediacy went into my large back garden of which the initial house was built in the 1800’s . On starting up the detector on all types as recommended the machine found something in less than 10 seconds, I then pin pointed with the PP setting which is brilliant, them market and moved to my Dr Otekor pin pointer which uncovered a piece of scrap metal, never mind I thought and moved on , 10 seconds later and only 20 feet from my back door the detector bleeped again, on moving to the pin pointer I dug down around about 7 inches s to find a brass door latch which was quite old. I kept on for another hour and found another 8 items all insignificant but all showed correctly on the metal type sensor and I soon became accustomed to the different sounds. Very pleased with my purchase, looking forward to hours of fun and finds.

The detector was so easy to assemble and very lightweight to use. We had so much fun on the beach as a family and the excitement of the BLEEP knowing it could be something amazing you dig up .
The P.P. is a great help and the discriminator symbols makes it feel like roulette which one will light up ,Iron coins or gold/silver .The only negative I can find is the set up procedure waving different objects in front of it and pressing various buttons to program it to recognize different objects ,so in the end I just turned it on and went of to dig up anything that bleeped and get surprised ,my friend thinks its great and wants to buy one too so we can go out together as well with his family.

WOW, what can I say… I’m new to metal detecting & didn’t want to spend a fortune on my 1st detector. I was initially going to purchase a National Geographic one but after reading their reviews, I decided otherwise. I needed help to find the perfect machine so off I went to do some serious research on YouTube. This is where I found the wonderful Dr. Otek MT-XR. I need a good detector that will work super-well both on the beach and land. This is the only low cost detector I could find that will do so. Delivery was quick & putting it together was so easy. As a total novice, I couldn’t believe how easy the controls are to understand! I was in my garden in no time and I can honestly say that this machine works great. The pin-point function is spot on which helps a great deal. I haven’t yet tried it on the beach but can’t wait to do so. This is a FANTASTIC detector that is super affordable. Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention that my husband couldn’t believe the quality & strength of the digger that came with this kit. I feel like I have got a real bargain. Thanks Dr. Otek… it’s a thumbs up from me.

Firstly, I have just received the MT-XR model and haven’t yet used it. I am reviewing now on the promise of a free pouch or digger.
I had been watching this metal detector for some time, having been generally impressed with other reviews. I bought it on a “lightning deal” for 110 which I think is pretty good.
The item comes well packaged and out of the box it isn’t too difficult to assemble. The manual seems reasonably comprehensive, however, it doesn’t seem to mention the fact that you can plug in a set of headphones – a very useful feature as I imagine the tones could be quite irritating to anyone in the vicinity when you’re using it. Also useful if in a secluded area and you don’t want to attract attention. The headphone socket is 3.5mm type and is located on the bottom of the control unit on the left hand side if looking from above.
There is plenty of adjustment in the overall length of the device to cater for people of different height. Whilst it isn’t particularly heavy, I wouldn’t say it was super-light, so getting the length set up well for your comfort should allow you to enjoy using it for longer periods.
I have given it a 4* rating initially but may review this once I have had an opportunity to use it in the field.

I took my time to try out this metal detector and found it very easy to put together following the easy to follow instructions and very lightweight.
I took it out to my garden to see what i could find, it was beeping all over the place so i changed the sensitivity and changed the discrimination and it seemed better, all changed with the push of a couple of buttons.
A beep went off so I used the built in pinpointer to zoom in on an area and began to dig……nothing there! so looked around again and again the same results and went in the house to have a moan about the rubbish detector and to look at a couple of youtube videos. In these clips they use a hand held pinpointer so i had a look around the internet and bought one. I returned to my garden armed with the metal detector and the hand held pinpointer – what a difference it made! I am now the proud finder of a piece of lead, a screw, a pin, a staple and part of a garden. fence which goes all under my lawn!
So my advice is get a handheld pinpoiner to help you find your “treasure”.
Its a good bit of kit all in all and doesn’t break the bank if it just sits in the cupboard for a while but now it just might see more light of day.

Having read all the reviews for this detector both on Amazon and other sites and you-tube, I was quite confident about what I was buying, and rightly so. Amazon Prime worked perfectly and I received my mt-xr the next day. It is robustly packaged so arrived in perfect condition. The contents were secure and complete.
Assembly is a breeze, and the inclusion of a battery is a super bonus as you can get started straight away. Everything slotted together as it should and not requiring any tools to assemble is a masterstroke. The adjustability of the mt-xr is excellent and noteworthy as it can be easy adjusted from tall adult to small child size in seconds again without the use of tools. The mt-xr is very straight forward to set up using the very good instruction book provided, and the control panel can be used and controlled with just the thumb which i think shows some real thought about the ergonomic use. Once assembled ,the whole detector is tight and feels very strong. It is also very lightweight and ambidextrous, so changing arms will cause no issues.
As regards the control panel, it is very easy to use and initially used in conjunction with instruction book , will present no challenges. Should there be any issues then there is an excellent fault finding guide to consult at the rear of the instructions
Finally i would like to sum up by saying how refreshing it is to purchase an item which works as described, arrives when promised in good condition and is easy and trouble free to order on-line. Well done to Dr. Otek and Amazo

Well I ordered this and it arrived quickly and well packaged. It was easy to put together and although after reading other reviews I was expecting hard to understand directions… nope they were pretty clear. I have just returned from a quick go around my field and it is comfortable, easy and lightweight to use . I am only 5 foot and it is easy to adjust for biggies or hobbits like me. I am a total novice and did not want to spend too much money. This feels well made and solid. It is early days but yes I would recommend this product. I did read about others on the market and felt that this had good reviews which I am happy to add to now.

I’ve dabbled in detecting previously, as part of a club, but never previously owned my own metal detector. Having done research on which would be the most appropriate one to buy, this one by far came out on top so decided to put my trust in buying this DR.TEK product. I’m pleased to say I consider it money very well spent. You could of course buy cheaper for a less well known brand, but as the saying goes “you get what you pay for”. For your reassurance, I would also recommend checking out the reviews on Youtube, which show the metal detector in action.

This metal detector is really lightweight and only took about 3 minutes to assemble. Once you’ve put it together, it can then be dissembled into three pieces so that it will easily fit inside a backpack. It is very easy to operate and is packed with features that you’d only normally find in much more expensive detectors.
I genuinely think you’ll be hard-pressed to find a comparable detector for a similar cost as this one. I guess the very fact it’s Amazon’s best selling model speaks for itself also.
To put the icing on the cake, on just the 2nd time I used it, we found my mother’s eternity ring that she’d lost about 20 years ago in the garden, and which she’d previously searched so extensively for!

I am new to the hobby and really had to do a lot of research to find what detector I think would suit me best. I needed something that was first of all lightweight, secondly easy to understand/operate and lastly not too expensive just incase I found the hobby wasn’t for me.

Which brings me to here. For a beginner, I have found this machine to be amazing for price. Due to not having any permissions currently, I have only been able to test this machine out in my own garden so far. But I have been out every day since having this metal detector delivered. I find it very exciting.

I love the fact I can discriminate types of metals out. My garden is littered in the earth with the general things you would expect to find in a usual garden; nails for instance. This detector gives me to opportunity to ignore those and concentrate on the more higher ferrous. However, my only negative I have with this machine at the time of writing this review is that the pinpointer doesn’t continue to discriminate those metals I have asked it to ignore. Having said that, the pinpoint option is really quite precise.

Overall, as a beginner, I really am impressed with this machine. I find it great value for money and deffinately makes me want to continue the hobby.

    Just perfect for a beginner.

I’ve wanted to have a go at metal detecting for a while now, never quite willing to spend my hard earned money on something I may not get fully immersed in. However after a little work bonus, combined with the current restrictions on everything I thought that I would take a punt and buy this unit to amuse myself with and get some fresh air, not cheap rubbish, not a massive “all the gear, no idea” super detector, just a relatively in-expensive one. The price had to reflect the fact that I may ever only use it occasionally.
So, after receiving the unit I put it together using the “Chinglish” instruction manual. You tubed how to set it up for different metals and of I ventured to the nearby beach to have a go.
Well, within half an hour or so I had found 2.20, some Corona bottle caps, a screw and other bits and bobs. You can laugh, most bystanders do (or make beeping sounds as they walk past), but when you get down on your knees and start digging after the higher pitch noise goes off (higher pitch noise = higher value metal) it’s more of a buzz than I thought. So now I want to go inland and explore, occasional use, pah! I’m hooked.
The unit is so light you could use it for hours, the features are plentiful and relatively easy to use, it was easy to construct and not that expensive should my enthusiasm start to wane. I did a fair bit of research as to which unit I should buy and this one kept coming out on many un-biased and neutral reviews it was really a no-brainer in the end.
If you’re thinking of having a go save a bit of research time and go for this one, I couldn’t find anything to match it.

Well, it was our steel wedding anniversary, so what else could I have bought. Always fancied buying a detector and this one was well rated. Bought 2, boxes arrived, plain card, no frills, clear instructions for assembly, clear getting started instructions, great features for the beginner and you are up and running in less than 5 mins.

I have lots to learn, but already located a tent peg, buried just under the surface in the lawn, that would have been a fun thing to find with my motor mower.

The instructions take you through a test sequence, so you are confident that you are detecting the target metals, put samples down, hover over them and watch the result. This immediately boosts you confidence in the tools and your abilities. There are also plenty of highlighted points, helping you understand any false signals you might encounter.

My wife, has taken the blokes approach, fired the detector up and off she went, we have a good strong silver signal, so this afternoon we’re are going to see if that ear ring lost last weekend is the culprit.

This is a well manufactured, easy to use, lightweight tool, comfortable to hold, good range of useful features, offering hours/days of entertainment. I am now keen to get out and venture past my garden, but we are in lockdown, so will have to wait.

If you are a beginner, I would very much recommend this detector.

Now off to order a spade,

    Hope this helps someone.

This is my first metal detector and Im very much a beginner. It was purchased as a birthday gift for my partner which she loves as much as her two kids especially her austistic son even though he wants to take a pickaxe too (minecraft fans). The assembly was extremely easy and the only thing I did differectly to the instructions was not connecting the cable to after it was complete and height had been adjusted. We tested the ferrous to non ferrous range with coins as instructed without any problems, set the machine to all metal and went for a quick walk. Within no time the alarm was beeping in the silver range! What we found is pictured with comment. I believe it is pewter but silver is added to stop corrosion (reasearched). Im not sure what the part is but very interested in finding out. As we go out for long family walks Im sure this is going to be a great purchase. One last thing, invest in a good spade. We used a small garden tool in haste and it didnt last long ha,ha.

    Thoroughly enjoy as a family.

Well I did not expect the the quailty of this metal detector MT-XR and the pointer MT6 it arrived yesterday I quickly assambled the MT-XR it was so easy to do it took all of about 7minuites to get it together and the pointer a minute as the instructions were so simple to follow. I quickly got into my car and set off to go metal detecting. Within 5 minutes I had a hit I was not expecting that at all I put down the the metal detector after using the P-P key which gave me the idead where the metal had been detected and used the pointer to get an accurate position on the object it work perfectly first time I was gobsmaked 120mm down was a very old jactet button and using the same method in 15 minutes later I have found an old bullit casing, I never thought they would work so well for spendin just over 200 pound. I am so happy with what I had bought well worth the money.

Right, first up it was delivered very quick and the packaging was very sturdy. I was already very pleased before i even opened it but you have to expect a catch. There didn’t seem to be one as on inspection, all the components were there and they all seemed to be good quality. Assembly was easy, no fiddly bits and everything went where it was supposed to and just clicked or thumbscrewed into place. A9v battery was included so i popped it in and went through the basic checks listed in the set up guide. The tone recognition is easy enough. Low and its probably tat and high suggests more lucrative metal. It definitely made plenty of noise when metal was placed near the coil. Everything was shaping up nicely so all i had to do was get it out in the wild. I spent about five hours in the field I had my permission to explore. what a blast, I had it on all metal to start with and I just got sick of digging up lumps or old machine parts but to start with I was excited with every beep. i set it jewellery for the last hour and came away with some soft metal which was registering as silver ad an old half penny coin. I cant wait to go out again and this little detector made it a great first outing. Not one single complaint. One other thing i would add is that the battery included only lost one notch on the built in power indictor and a rarely turned it off so the device will last a good while on one battery. Also, the pin pointer function was useful. You will definitely need a dedicated pin pointer to avoid a load of digging but it scream when you are nearer the prize so it definitely helps you narrow it down. Really happy with this purchase and i’m also happy to recommend it to other people seeking a starter device to get them up and running on their detectorists journey.
