Wood Burning Fire Pit

Any firewood will burn but for the best efficiency we recommend dry hard woods. Hardwoods such as birch, maple, hickory and oak will burn longer than softwoods.

It is a very good fire pit and can be compltely smokless and looks very good with the simple steel design. It is very expensive for what it is but i would say its worth it for a much better experience. My first one came dented by they came and replaced it with a new one the next day.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis is a great fire pit and is just what I thought it would be. It is a bit bulky but still manageable for something we do not leave out in the backyard all of the time. I bought the pit with the stand hoping that it would protect my grass which it does not totally do. I had a burn patch of what I believe was just area inside the stand. Until the backyard deck and patio are done I think I will just use a few single pavers to give another bit of height and I suspect that will not fry the yard.

The heat output is good but not the greatest around the pit. It makes sense with the double wall design that you have a loss of heat surrounding the pit. I will take the smokeless burn over the extra heat. Actually I am in the process of ordering the heat deflector for the fall/winter months, kind of pricey but the reviews all seem to be worth it.

Great pit just what I wanted

    Fast to light
    No smoke
Efficient – burns for hours with few logs

Should hold up as I store inside and keep it dry.

Will use over winter when I have the smoker cooking some ribs or picanha

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery happy after a couple of fires. You’ll get some smoke at start up but quickly dies down when the fire gets going. On a chilly fall evening, I fired up the Solo on my patio with some very well seasoned oak and hickory chunks. Within minutes the fire was roaring and no bothersome smoke. I pulled up a chair 3 or 4 feet from the stove, sat there for a couple hours and never moved to dodge smoke or flying sparks. It actually puts out some nice radiant heat. The Solo does burn wood very quickly so you do have to feed it often. It is very efficient so after the fire burns out, there is very little ash to clean out.

This has been a green addition to our outdoor space to roast s’mores or just sit by the fire during cooling Fall nights. You have to make the fire right and make sure you build from kindling to small to large logs. Once it’s properly started it’s low smoke and high heat. Love there are additional options for cooking. Not sure how portable it is for camping but can move around fairly easily. Overall recommend

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat patio fires. Once burning, it really does burn smoke free. Produces a good flame and nice heat. Two items to note:
    1) Standard cut fire light are too long to fit. Must be cut shorter, or you must buy shorter logs.
    2) The stainless turns to a gold color after first burn. Looks good, but if you like stainless don’t expect it to stay silver.

I cant praise this stove fire pit enough it really is outstanding, used for the first time yesterday and our guests were mesmerized with the flames swirling around and even more amazing your clothes didn’t smell of smoke at the end of the night, had a look this morning and there was very little to clean all the wood had virtually burnt away.

Love this. After a 20 min burn it is totally smokeless and fab to sit around. Throws out lots of heat. We have just the stand and no marks on the patio at all. We use the carry bag as a rain cover when cooled. Not much ash as seems to almost self clean during the burn but easy enough to to tip ash out into the flower beds as nutrients.
Lots of sceptical friends now proud owners too! In short – if you want to extend your evenings outside and not dodge smoke or smell like a bonfire, this is a must!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought the bonfire specifically for a wedding party at my home in May. I predicted a chilly evening and wanted guests to be comfortable when outside. The bonfire exceeded all expectations, and I should be getting commission from solo stove due to the number of additional subsequent purchases from our guests! Everyone loved it. We had 10 people standing around it, many in disbelief that there was so much heat yet so little smoke. It became the centrepiece of the wedding party and it paid for itself in one evening. Amazing product.

It came on time & looks great. But it came with a cover that doesn’t fit. They must have put the wrong size in the box. You’d think someone would check. Otherwise I’d give it 4 stars. I also went past the the return deadline before realizing the cover was wrong. I didn’t open it for a bit.

Item delivered next day. Top quality product. Yes its expensive but its worth it. Does exactly what it’s says….great heat, low/minimal smoke and very little ash remains to clean at the end. NOTE: for those with poor reviews. Burning cheap offcuts/softwood will produce smoke no matter. Combine hardwood logs and smokeless briquettes for a perfect fire. Stand worked great and helped protect my patio surface but wish I’d also bought the lid to pop on at the end of the night. Will defo be adding some accessories.

I bought this and placed it inside an existing firepit built into our back patio. Now my family enjoys having fires again. This works as advertised and the significant reduction in smoke has helped my family of teenagers enjoy having a fire, roasting hotdogs, and making smores. Ive been buying well aged / dry bundles ofc wood at local hardware store. I don’t move this. I do have a cover for it because of heavy rain in my area. I will admit that I don’t particularly like having to dump out the ash after it cools from a fire.

I know, these things are ridiculously priced for what is basically a metal version of a hole in the ground.

But, it performs as advertised. With just 3-4 pieces of wood, the fire is big, bright, and practically smokeless.

The heat is funneled striaight up, so it is not as warm to sit by as a normal fire, but I am using it more for it’s appearance. I wouldn’t see how you can grill over ir as it has -0- heat control and it definitely too hot for anything other than searing a steak or roasting marshmallows. In the end, all you have left is a few ashes, so clean up is easy.

So, if you want a pretty, big fire with a few logs (although they burm pretty quickly) with almost no smoke, this is what you want.

  31. Anonymous says:

     United States

Very efficient! Once you get it going, I love being able to just put another log in without having to sit smoking blowing kisses at it to get going again.
The sides do get hot! Even them I don’t I needed the stand. It needs handles though, for when it’s cold and empty ash. I got a bundle so it came with its bag (very nice n durable) but cumbersome getting it in and out. DON’T need fire starters, waste of money. Pine cones wrapped in paper work great. Good idea to get the screen (though I feel it’s overpriced -wait for an email sale offer) helps avoid sparks cuz this b*! Gets hot.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersBought this as a Christmas gift this past year, with the idea of putting it on the deck. There hasn’t been any damage, we also have an overhang on our deck that is part of the house and no damage to that either. This item is smokeless if you are using dry wood, or kiln dried wood, if you add leaves it gets smokey. Definitely portable, only three pieces and then it’s assembled. Not too heavy but heavy enough that a gust of wind won’t send it flying. 100% recommend!

    Great Top Fire!
I’m a true Camper that loves to burn wood. Watching the red-hot embers and inner glow of the fire is relaxing and enjoyable. This unit is totally enclosed and hides the inside of the fire. So what you get, is a Great Top Fire!
To improve my fire, I have learned to use longer logs, to bring the fire rolling-up the tips, for a blooming flame.
After cleaning out the unit, I store it in the covered patio upside-down, as the tank will hold water and rust faster.
The unit is made of strong S/S metal and will provide many years of enjoyment.
    Best Wishes!

    Great Top Fire!

Don’t go in thinking this fire pit is smokeless; it SMOKES LESS. Having said that, it still is the best fire pit for not having ALL that smoke coming at you and wearing it in your hair and clothes. It keeps you warm and looks great. We love it. We purchased it to be able to sit and move around our pool in the evenings. With it having wheels it is so easy to move. And the best part, it cleans up quickly as there is hardly any ash left. Beware! in order to get that SMOKE LESS make sure your would is bone dry! Wet or damp wood will cause it to smoke more.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEasy to light with very little smoke. Sitting by the solo stove for a couple of hours your clothes afterwards smell like a toasty bonfire rather than a dirty smokey acrid smell that is often associated with fire pits. It is expensive but it works really well. You need about 15mins to get up to temp to start getting rid of the smoke but that’s as described. I was worried that there would not be enough heat coming out at leg level and you would need to sit really close but I have found it to be warm enough. Lights very easily and gives a really fantastic burn.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLove this stove, great heat. One key is to use dry wood, then it is totally smokeless. We have used chopped logs that were not fully dry and there was smoke. With dry wood it is definitely smokeless as stated.

Got one for my birthday and I’m delighted with it!

Filled it halfway with dried logs and some kindling and 10 minutes later there was barely any smoke and it was burning hot enough that were were comfortable a few feet away, the stand stayed cold throughout.

It does burn efficiently and pretty quickly so expect to be topping up the logs every 30 minutes or so unless you want a sudden drop in output.

As long as it stays hot, the smoke output is minimal. Once it’s burning down the smoke output goes up, not a huge amount but this smoke is noticeable more acrid than before and is what makes your clothes stink.

Only used it the once so far but very impressed.

Can’t speak for durability yet but nothing about it makes me think it will suffer sitting in the garden.

I was torn between the Bonfire and Yukon. The Bonfire seemed more portable but the Yukon’s size would be able to handle larger logs. We opted for the Bonfire so we could use it in various locations around our yard and also take it camping.

The claims that it is smokeless are true! The caveat is that logs have to be below the rim in order to prevent smoke, but that is clearly listed before purchase. The logs have to be smaller than I expected in order to get below the rim, but if you need to go above then it’s no different than a standard fire pit.

We used it on a cool evening and everyone started out with blankets but it quickly warmed up enough that everyone was comfortable. I was impressed by the heat it put off! Even marshmallows roasted quickly due to the heat.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersCompared to the average “open” fire pit, This works as advertised. the complete combustion of dry wood is exceptional. You do still have to build a proper fire by starting small and adding larger fuel. If you are using pine or other high resin woods, the spark arrester would be a good investment-I ordered after using mine for a bit. I got the stand to protect my patio and it works great with the basic unit. When the fire gets roiling the flames are “soft” an pleasant to look at as the secondary combustion of the smoke kicks in. The carry sack is convenient once the pit has cooled and you can empty the the ash prior to stowing. The heat output is much more contained then the average pit so folks can get closer to the fire for s’mores and hot dogs. Be careful not to touch the sides as it gives the impression it’s a “stay cool” surface-It is not! the heat is very intense over the top so quick hands or long tongs are recommended for adding wood. So far I’m very happy with the purchase

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersWe really like this stove. Once we get our fire started it burns efficiently with out a lot of smoke. It is portable and light. We got ours with a stand and a cover. Even when the stove is hot, the stand is cool so you can put it on the ground without worrying.

It puts out a decent amount of heat and warmth although it is better to be closer to it to warm up so we have to take socially distanced turns warming ourselves. Because of the design you don’t get as much horizontal heat as you might with another fire-pit. Wood cut at fireplace length is a bit long for this size, and sticks out the top, so consider that when buying your wood. Also, be aware you can’t pour water into this to put your fire out, nor is it supposed to be drenched in rain or snow so you do have to do some planning ahead to make sure your fire is out and the stove cooled off enough for you to put it in a car for transport or move it to a dry storage location. We bought a metal trash can and often scoop out embers to speed the process. The stove then cools off very quickly (10 -15 minutes).

Overall, we are quite pleased, it just requires some thought about when to stop adding wood and let it burn down and allowing for cooling time.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersI am not 100% convinced by these stoves. They look great and light really easily. They do not eat up as much wood as I expected and certainly burn reasonably cleanly. Are they better than an old washing machine drum? I don’t think so. The heat all seems to go upwards and does not really radiate out the sides (where people would be sitting). Is it smokeless? Well, you still know you have been sitting around an open fire in the morning as your clothes still smell of smoke. You would not want to leave this out in the rain as it would rust really quickly. I am also still waiting for the bottom stand to arrive which is frustrating after 2 months. I don’t think it will ever arrive.

No false claims, and no smoke…literally. The carry bag is a nice touch. We can bring it with us to friend and family gatherings, post Covid-19. Also easy to pack and bring along camping or to campsites. Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI have been looking at buying a Firepit for my garden/patio for a few months….some good options out there, but biggest blocker for me has always been the smoke coming off them. I read about these Solo Stoves online and was drawn to the smokeless aspect.
Bit sceptical but decided, in the current Lockdown 2020 environment, any excuse to get the family outside pushed me to buy this Solo Bonfire (with stand). I was definitely not disappointed…..
It looks great and not that heavy…the stand is a must if you have a wooden deck.
Got some Kiln dried Ash and Birch to burn… The fire was so easy to light..few sticks and balls of cotton wool and I was away!!! After 5 min I had a blazing .
Now there is a bit of smoke when you start this thing, as expected, but 10 min in there was no smoke….4 hrs later we had enjoyed toasted marshmallows and a lot of great conversation….I am now 4 weeks in and apart for a bit of discoloration this thing is amazing.
If you want to sit outside and enjoy some family time without dodging smoke every few minutes, I highly recommend the Solo Above Bonfire…. Go get one and sit back and relax!!

    Virtually Smokeless wonder!

Golden Review Award: 50 From Our UsersAbsolute best firepit out there. This thing will be handed down to my son and his kids someday.

Pros: Beautifully designed and well made for sure. Burns VERY hot and clean, even garbage green pine or any other gas station wood or really anything else you can put in it. Secondary burn design really keeps smoke to a minimum. Indestructible. With the addition of a grill top, it’s awesome to cook lots pf different things.

Cons: burns SO hot and clean it discolors the stainless, so it won’t stay bright clean silver. I actually like the heat discoloration, some folks may not. Too big to be truly portable if I’m honest. I like to camp and whatnot, and this thing is too big and unwieldy to pack in my FJ with everything else, so I have a different solar powered portable solution that works well in the mountains.

Verdict: excellent home/patio firepit. It’s huge, not light, and not really all that portable, but that isn’t why I bought it. It’s heavy, solid, well built, well designed, and will likely last forever in my back yard. Love this thing!

    Great home/patio firepit!

Golden Review Award: 132 From Our UsersOk I’m going to start off with how I ended up but this thing.. I was at a camp site and saw this awesome fire roaring away in this stainless steel can just down the way from me all the while I’m struggling to keep mine burning and trying not to smoke us out. Yeah I noticed that they had way less smoke than we did and they were not shifting positions every time the wind did.. I was jealous. During one of my wanderings I gave it a glance over and whipped out the phone, research on.. Solo Stove.. yep that’s it. A little procrastination over the next couple of weeks then bam my finger hit the buy now button. um maybe I should have asked them which one they had.. because although Bonfire is not the biggest it is still huge! At least for my purposes, traveling around in my RV, it seems extreme. Now to be honest it’s not gonna stop me from trying it out on the road in a couple of weeks but maybe just maybe I should have bought the Ranger instead.. well if it ends up being too much for the road I’ll have one hell of a nice stick burner at the house to mingle around.. could I have returned it.. in a normal house yep.. in mine there was no way, my kids saw the size of that box and the art academy was in session.. fort making one o one on the other side.. so I’m pretty sure if you plan on traveling you probably should first look at the dimensions then just head over to the Ranger. We’ll probably be a the proud parents of two beautiful Solo Stoves by this time next year.. can’t wait for the wife to get home so I can explain this one too here…

Used it yesterday and but it’s it nice, minimal smoke and absolutely no embers blowing out. Did have the occasional pieces of ash but they were truly fully burned and just floated as away with the wind. It was a windy day with gusts upwards of 20+ mph and this thing performed wonderfully. Uploaded some pictures of it in action.

Cool! I mean hot! Or huge! So conflicted!
