Easy to fix to the wall , easy to pull out , plenty long enough , winds in smoothly , great hosepipe .
Like: stores away neatly on wall.
Dislike: sometimes recoil needs a little persuasion.
It is well constructed with a great deal of thought put into it’s construction to make it easy to use especially for us older gardeners. All the purchaser does is fit a supplied bracket to a wall at about waist height with 4 supplied coach bolts and washers plus wall plugs. Use a N0. 8 drill for the holes and use a level to make sure it is level and not tilted. Then lift the product, and slide onto the bracket using the pre. fitted axle on the back of the unit. The hose to your water supply is already fitted. Just connect either screw or push fit. Then turn on your tap and ready to go. Pull out your hose there is a running guide inside so no crossover. Pull out and stop and it stops. A gentle pull and it reverses and roll itself back to th unite. No hose to trip over. It is a brillient design and simple instuctions. I cannot fault it. Have a friend or partner with you during the fitting, when the unit arrives you will appreciate why. Happy gardening and stay safe.
So far so good. Time will tell about the true quality of the item. Ease to install and quite sturdy. Good value for money.
Good piece of kit, solidly fixes to a brick/block wall with the supplied bolts (8mm heads required a socket to tighten fully). Extends and retracts easily, no leaks (but only had for a week so far), Better to turn off water and open spray end for easier retraction.

Bought this for my son to have at his home. He is really pleased with it. Seems to be strong and sturdy. The hose auto rewind is great. Wall bracket was easy to put up and offer s the reel flexibility.

In line with other reviews the securing bolts are rubbish, the head snaps off as the metal is too soft. Additionally the nozzle supplied is impossible to operate correctly as far too stiff, extremely difficult to turn despite repeated efforts, pity because it gives off a good jet. Otherwise the good points: very good quality hose, doesn’t kink and retracts quite well once the knack is learned. Good solid body and helpful being able to rotate. Overall a good quality.

It is early days yet but this hose attachment seems fine. It was Quite easy to install and seems well made. The only thing I found you need to be careful with is rehousing the hose after use, as I found on a couple of occasions I needed to jerk the hose several times before it returned to the holder. So patience may sometimes be needed. I would recommend too that the housing is removed during Winter months for protection from any frost damage.

I got this to tidy up my side passage and this definitely did the trick. Some negatives that other reviews have mentioned:
1. When you extend the hose it does get tougher to pull towards the end. I now prefer to pull it all out first before going round the garden.
2. When the hose reels back in it sometimes does not reel back in the whole way and I sometimes need to jiggle it to do so.
3. When mounting the case, the instructions recommend to use a spanner but the plastic mount is such that it is very fiddly to tighten the nuts with a normal spanner. I found I needed to use my electric drill with an extender to tighten the nuts properly.
All in all I am happy with the product for the price.
Excellent – I echo all the very positive reviews above. Some mention the anchor bolts not looking strong, but they are absolutely solid – no problem and it’s bolted to the wall very securely. Rewind mechanism is particularly slick and smooth.
Shipping without a trigger-spray is nuts, but can’t knock it for that, as I knew that when I bought it. Definitely recommend.

This is a well made reel at a good price. It needs a 12mm drill bit for the wall plugs, which gives a very firm fixing. It takes a bit of practice to use the auto rewind, but does work OK. I would recommend.

Having bought (and returned – as it broke) the HoseLock version, I can affirm that the quality of all the components of the Von Haus hose reel are far better than anything I have experienced made by HoseLock. It does, however, have one important flaw.
There is too much hose for the size of the casing. When rewinding, the mechanism jams up before all the hose has retracted. Fortunately I don’t need the full 20 metres of hose so will cut a few metres off and hope this solves the problem.
EDIT. Fortunately, before cutting the hose, I have discovered that if I turn off the water and release the pressure in the hose it then rewinds without jamming. Water pressure must have caused the hose to expand slightly making it jam in the casing.
Good quality and well made product that is superior to other more well known brands.
Despite other reviews, the fixings are adequate providing assembly is done properly onto a good surface. Although I was able to fit an extra length of hose comi ng from the reel that connects to the tap, I do think a larger length should be attached by the manufacturer at the outset albeit maybe only and extra metre or so.

Update 23/08/20: The hose seems to be a perfect size for the box. That means that when the hose reels in, it must reel in perfectly otherwise it jams as he hose reels up too much on one end. As my dad is disabled, he is unable to control the hose as it is reeled in and tends to jam with about 2-3m still exposed. I then have to unreel the whole line and reel it back it. My dad uses the hose about 2-3 times and therefore I need to pop round regular to sor tit out otherwise it becomes a trip hazard for him. To fix this, I will cut the hose down a few metres as I ordered the 20m but realistically only need about 15m.
Good delivery. Great product. Very strong. Spring to return hose to housing very “sharp and fast” so you have to be careful.
Kicking myself because 20m isn’t very long! The reel is a good product but the hose is in my opinion is cheap as it twists and stops the flow very easily but perhaps this is why this product is cheaper than other auto rewind products. We have high usage (everyday) but probably wouldn’t be such a problem if usage wasn’t every day : garden was smaller!

This is a great hose. Easy to install on the wall as long as you have basic DIY skills like me. The fixings are fine. You will need a 12mm drill bit. It retracts great. Apart from attaching it to the wall it’s ready to go. It fits all standard hose attachments like hozelock etc. It swivels so it sits out of the way when not in use. What’s not to like

Scotching a few myths seen in other reviews. The wall mounting bolts are perfectly fine – just be sure to use the correct drill bit (13mm I think) the plugs should be a tight fit (I knocked mine in with a soft mallet.
The comments about the reel-in being dangerous… well what can I say. The instructions CLEARLY STATE… WALK THE HOSE BACK. Don’t just let go and not expect to be bitten on the bum.
The hose – yes it kinks if you’re not careful so … either be careful or be prepared to pay twice the price. If, at this price I get 5 years, I’ll be happy.

Seems really good quality exactly as described. Had to alter hose connection but fitted existing hoselock fittings fine.
This product was just what I expected. Saw a few negative comments when searching for a retractable garden hose but still went ahead and glad I did as I found nothing wrong with it whatsoever.
Just to add after just over 11 months of regular use the mechanism failed to fully retract so I contacted the supplier and with no questions asked simply agreed to provide a replacement. It’s companies like this I have no hesitation in recommending.
Sturdy easy to retract and use, bolts position on the bracket makes it a bit difficult to tighten.
Need longer bolts as I have extra kingspan cladding on my house,(can get myself).
Nozzle drips when closed fully, this is just feedback to vonhaus for unseen very minor problems,

I liked the price for a well made and robust hosereel,works very well on retrieving the hose after it was pulled out to its full extent would recommend.
Obviously well designed and made. Perhaps in Germany they can assume that all householders have a 12 mm. masonry bit, a strong drill, and a socket set. But over here such items can add significantly to the labour of the installation, and the cost of the product. Beware! Once the trauma of installation is over, it is really great.
Retracts without too much bother. Avoid mounting too close to a tap – the reel is quite bulky and can put pressure on the tap connector which caused some dripping at the tap end. Adding a timer solved this problem.
Being a keen gardener I needed a retractable hose that did just that. I haven’t been disappointed The Van Haus 20m hose reel functions well, better than other brands I have used in the past. It retracts easily and fully. Would recommend this product to anyone and it comes in a few pounds cheaper than similar mounted hose reel .
I now have three of their products. A welding mask, a stone cutter and now this. It’s really good. Well made. Quality hose and fittings. My only gripe is the retract isn’t that easy to get started. It tends to keep extending when you want it to retract. But once it starts it will completely retract into itself without any extra help.

Perfect and really easy to assemble, don’t forget to purchase a small lock for the holding pin so thieves can’t lift it off the housing bracket once fitted, a cheap travel lock is perfect great pressure and the auto recoil is a massive plus, no winding handle or coiling up by hand any more
I looked at a lot of reviews befor I decided to purchase this item and I definitely choose the right one works great and I’m really pleased with it, I used a small amount of oil on the bolts 12m masonry bit and took my time screwing them in with no problem using a socket set and the bolts where fine just take your time?
Massive improvement from my last manual wind in, would recommend.
Over the years I have bought many hoses and, having recently moved, I decided this time to invest a bit more money in one that looked as though it wouldn’t kind, tie itself in knots and generally be a complete nuisance to used. I do believe that with this hose I have found ‘the one’. It was very easy to fix on the wall, uncoiled and re-coiled with ease, has a great head on it. I am really delighted, no more problems watering the pots and garden – hooray! Can highly recommend this if you want a problem free, easy to use hose.

Really easy to fix the hose and reel to a wall, I used some oil to lubricate the threaded coach screws and this definitely helped when tightening.
The hose works as expected and the reel mechanism operates smoothly on extension and retraction.

Very pleased with this hose – it is so much better than our old one. I like being able to fold it flat against the wall, plus the hose automatically rewinds in a flash. I discovered it needs a small tug to start the auto rewind, after initially being too rough and wondering why it didn’t move at all. It works perfectly if you are gentle with it.
The actual hose reel works brilliantly and I used the screws that came with it for fitting to the wall although I was very careful. My only complaint is the hose connectors both ends aren’t the best and do leak even when I was sure they had made a proper connection. That wouldn’t stop me buying it again though.
After reading other reviews was concerned about the screws provided but I found they were ok and fixed the bracket to the wall no problem. Have tried the hose several times and it makes cleaning the car etc. very easy and quick to tidy away neatly. Great hose for an easy and neat system.
Probably the best auto winding hose reel, definitely on a par with the hozelock products I’ve had and a good bit cheaper. The only issue for me is that the hosepipe kinks a bit more easily than the hozelock version, but I think the softer hosepipe is what allows it to rewind so well, overall I think it’s a good tradeoff, I’d certainly buy this again over the hozelock.
It work well but did have a problem retracting back in maybe my fault for pulling it out to it’s full length. Would advise getting longer screws as it’s a heavy item so when your pulling it about on the wall it does come away bit by bit. I will say this is the best hose I have used so I am very happy with i
Just a couple of negatives. Firstly it arrived with no wall bolts but after a phone call this was rapidly rectified. Secondly, the spray nozzle doesn’t have a turn-off lever which is awkward to manage when you have finished hosing. This was not a problem to us as we had a multi-function nozzle from a previous hose.

Arrived very promptly. I read advice from reviews and used stainless steel fixing screws (I live near the sea and steel fixings rust quickly) had no problems fixing to wall. The hose unit works well so far and does everything it claims. Would recommend it to others on the performance so far.
Works very well, no problems with pulling the hose out and it retracts perfectly. Fits to the wall neatly. I did change the wall securing screws as they did not look very strong and did not want them breaking off whist I was tightening them up. I bought stainless screws. All very neat and I am sure it will give many years of use.
Works very well once on the wall., but as others have said the supplied screws are rubbish don’t use them. I managed to shear one very easily, it was the first so I when I brought some decent screws. But for this, I would give the product 5 stars, Retracting works well so far (over 2 months of daily use). Easy to remove for the winter.
I’m careful to water the hose as it retracts so as not to get dirt inside, taking it apart to clear out muck would be hard I think so best to prevent it getting in there in the first place.
The reason for 4 stars is: The instructions did not tell you what size hole to drill, consequently when I screwed the bracket to wall 3 of 4 screws broke off, therefore I had to drill 4 new holes and buy new wall plugs and coach screws
Be aware of a very strong chemical odour from the water through this hose….do not recommend to use for filling child swimming pool or washing the dog!!!!!!…hopefully after time the odour will go as the water eliminates what ever the chemical odour is inside of the hose pipe.
Less expensive and just as good as Hozelock equivalent. ( I have both having purchased the Von Haus when I decided that I needed a second hose to cover the garden more easily.)

It is supplied with fittings for mounting it on a solid wall. The plastic wall bracket seems very strong and fit for purpose.
It is fixed to the wall with four coach bolts and good quality wall plugs. The instruction do not state what size drill is required for the plugs. You need a 12mm drill bit and a powerful drill. Also a socket set or suitable ring spanner to fix the bolts in.
The hose reels extends and retracts fairly well, although it is likely to need a bit of persuasion to get the last few feet retracted as the 20m hose is a tight fit in the cassette.
The cassette rotates on the bracket so that the hose can be extended in in a 180 degree arc from the wall.
Note that the cricket ball sized stop at the end of the hose precludes using the usual hose guides for going round corners: The ball is too large to fit through such guides.
Appears very good at this stage, rewind can be tricky sometimes, the only real fault Ive found were the fixing bolts which weaker than weak things, of course they don’t listen when you point it out so there’s hardly any point in contacting the retailers.
Excellent except that the bolts to attach the unit to a wall were TOTALLY inadequate for their intended purpose and HAD TO BE REPLACED.
What compensation will be paid for these replacements?
Arrived promptly worked well I am impressed with this product, would have given 5 stars but one of the bolts sheared off when tightening it, looking at reviews this seems a common occurrence.
At the moment I’m enjoying my new toy,no more having to rewind the hose,no kinks,no more having to fill watering cans,it’s made my job and the wife’s a lot easier,only one let down and that’s the nozzle but soon rectified that,apart from that nothing to complain about,a very happy chappie,as long as nothing goes wrong,fingers crossed.
It is not at all hard to extract, except maybe the last couple of meters, but even that is not comparable to a mr universe game. Retracting the hose is a doddle, I stand at the drum and let it feed in through my open hand and can control the speed easily, not in the slightest bit dangerous if you apply a little common sense. I expect if you just tug it and let it go it would reach a breakneck speed but that would be stupid IMO.
I was a tad concerned about all the reviews saying the fixings were poor.. No they are not, they are in fact very good and I expect the problem is user error and not drilling the correct size hole! For those yet to fix it, you will need a 12mm masonry bit, the plugs will slip in easily and you may think the hole is too big but as soon as the coach bolt has a turn on it they will tighten up nicely, you will need a socket and ratchet to screw them in as the coach bolt heads will eventually be recessed in the holes on the bracket moulding so a conventional spanner will fail you..
Been using this hose daily for a few weeks now as I have just seeded a lawn and need to keep it well watered, I am over the moon with it, its a great bit of kit and you will not be dissapointed 😉

Nice item and easy to assemble, would hep if instructions told you what size drill bit to use (I think i used 11mm). Hose quality not as good as that supplied with the Hozelock equivalent but overall much better value at half the price. Same connector as the Hozelock so no need to change any accessories if you already have those from Hozelock. Looks neat and tidy on the wall.
Great piece of equipment at a great price. It takes the tedium out of hose usage. The supplied screws are very soft metal and two sheared off very easily leaving half a screw stuck in the wall! Good job I had a builder round at the time to drill the screws out. I also have a 40m Hozelock auto rewind unit which is about three times as big and heavy but which has much smaller rawl plugs and screws ( literally half the size ), so I would scrap the supplied items and use smaller but better fixings.
Finally and irritatingly, the item’s German name instilled a sense of confidence in the quality and construction; unfortunately, although it does seem to be solid enough, it’s actually Chinese!
Good price good hose reel. Only reason for 4 stars is that fixing screws are too soft and will break off when you try and fix the bracket to the wall. I had to remove the broken screws and refit with new screws in a different location.
1) They are neater in appearance and slightly more compact than the standard floor standing ones.
2) The convenience and speed in winding the hose.
If you have never owned an automatic rewind hose, once you buy this, you will question yourself as to why you put up with the manual variety for so long!
Straight from the outset in deciding which auto rewind reel to buy, the high cost of automatic reels took us by surprise. We had until now, always purchased Hozelock brand, and those are priced at 70-90. However, this VonHaus model was far more affordable (almost half the price of Hozelock). But because it is almost half the price, don’t be fooled to thinking this is some type of budget reel. We have a couple of VonHaus items and we have never been disappointed with the quality.
Comes with all the fixings required (4 large masonry bolts and plugs). The hose casing is all hard plastic and has a steel rod that slots into the wall mount allowing it to be lifted and carried by the handle into storage. However, as a security feature, the steel rod also has a small hole at the base to allow a padlock to be fixed and therefore locking the case to the wall mount.
Once in place, the hose casing swivels about 190 degrees, which is enough to tuck comfortably out of the way against the wall. If you attach it directly on the wall instead of a wooden batten (as we did), then it will protrude even less and will swivel flush to the wall even more.
We decided to mount ours on a wooden post/batten instead of straight into the masonry. This is more of a lack of confidence in our brickwork/mortar rather than in the supplied fixings, but also because it spreads the load a little better. (Used 4x 50mm Wood Turbo Coach screws instead of the supplied masonry ones).
At first it takes a couple of go’s to get the knack in pulling the hose or rewinding it with a little tug and release, but not an issue. Great value and very pleased with the quality.
If there is a negative, it is that (as far as I know) the hose length only comes in one size option (20m).
If VonHaus produced a 30m version, we would buy that also!
*Edit:
As of June 2019, 2 years after our purchase, I notice that Von Haus now has a 30m version. However, at 95 – it’s a little steep!. In fact, even the 20m version that we bought is now 60. We only paid 40 for it 2 years ago.
