No mention in description that it was noisy. Perhaps it’s fan cooled?

The light arrived quickly, it is a very long light in length and it is extremely bright.
There seems to be a small fan in the light to keep the LED’s cool too, you can hear if you turn the light on, its not too loud but its also not silent. If you leave the light on for a while the room does start to get warm from the heat the LED’s which is blown down from the light!

My boss recently bought one from a different brand for the warehouse, he felt he was over charged. We went online to see if we can find one at a better price. We found it and before I left work I had placed an order with this. I placed the bulb in my living room and it’s bright. I’m getting another one for my outside lights.

I have purchased two of these recently, one with a bayonet fitting for my garage and one with an ES fitting for a home office.
The illumination provided is superb and I will not hesitate to recommend.
I saved a fortune buying these instead of fluorescent tubes and the associated fittings.
That said, the cooling fan in the office lamp is really noisy and as it is in my wife’s office I am getting lots of grief around this, hence only 4 stars.
The lamp in my garage is silent.
I would appreciate a call from Dragon around this.

It is claimed that this 50w warm white (3000K) bulb pumps out 6,000 lumens of light but — very strangely — in use it seems significantly dimmer than its predecessor, a 40w white (6000K) bulb, which claimed it was emitting 5,400 lumens. However, even if not as bright as I was expecting, this new bulb is perfectly fit for my purpose and I find the warm white 3000K light hugely more appealing and far less harsh than the old 6000K white light.

P.S. I have this bulb is in an outdoor lantern above my garden gate. It is said to have an integral fan but I have not heard this activate during the current (January) cold nights so I still don’t know how loud this fan is when it spins into life. However, since it is nowhere near my house, fan noise (for me) is of no consequence at all, but it might be relevant to others if the fan noise is close enough to be disturbing.

I replaced nine 300 watt 120VAC incandescent bulbs with these 50 watt 3000K warm white 6,000 Lumens LED light bulbs. The E39 Large Mogul Base adapter to E26 socket base was required, so I’m glad it was included with the bulbs. The brightness is so much better than the old 300 watt incandescent bulbs and the power savings is awesome. The only downside is that these bulbs are non-dimmable, but they do work with dimmers when the dimmer is a full on.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersQuite a long bulb body and more weighty than most. The banks of LED’s necessitate a built in cooling fan which naturally makes a bit of noise, not so good when reading. I bought this lamp to enhance display of my fossils and minerals when showing them off to friends, so it is fitted to a table lamp assembly with a down lighter reflector (this ensures the light goes where it’s wanted with a sharp cutoff to avoid dazzle). Of course less powerful lamps may be adequate for displays, but us over 60’s need a bit more light as well as glasses to see things like we used to.

I really like this light, it is bright & has good color. The problem I had was the adapter was VERY cheap. When I screwed it into the fixture (which is old & has some corrosion) the adapter just fell apart, the inside twisted apart from the outside. I purchased a separate adapter that was made of ceramic & it works great. I recommend if you need the adapter, th get a different one. I would buy this light again. I would have given 5 stars if it didn’t come with the cheap adapter.

Bulbs used to convert existing faulty 150watt metal Halide car park lights to LED. Light levels excellent and running costs only 33% of old lights. I replaced a number of lights this time last year and they are still burning as bright as ever. The savings in electricity have exceeded the cost of the bulbs, so they have paid for themselves within 12 months.

Light worked great until the little vents filled with little bugs and I am assuming the components overheated and the light failed. Don’t see any hot-spots, but by tapping the light we were able to get a lot of little bugs to fall out. Kind of like a pepper grinder.

The 100watt not only is small but the base is the same diameter as the display. Again works in almost any fixture great design and cutting edge on smaller size.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersHaving just moved into a new construction, the builders put typically shaped “roundish” bulbs in the vertically shaped coach light. It just didn’t look right. I purchased corn LEDs to look better. These lights are the same color (3000K) as my neighbors have but they are much brighter and they fill the fixture better. Moreover, I paired each bulb with an on-at-dusk variable timer so I now have bright, automatic disk to dawn coach lights. Our new end of the community has no street lights yet so we all keep our coach lights on for safety.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI bought the 35 watt 6500K daylight for outside of garage entrance. I have replaced a number of other brands of LEDs that all seemed to die quickly. This bulb is still going about 1 year after install. The issue I had was that half the bulb LEDs would go dark after a period of time. I contacted the support via email and they replied that this was a safety feature if the bulb got too hot. They offered to replace my 35 watt with a 20 watt to decrease heat output and keep the whole bulb lit all the time. The real problem was the outside fixture enclosed too much of the LED, so it was difficult to cool even though the bulb has a built-in fan to assist cooling.

I found their support to be exceptional and the product was superior in performance. I highly recommend.

Bulb is great. A bit noisy from the fan. Pretty happy. We will see how long they last. I am curious? My guess is the fan will go out. It is a very hot bulb and in full son, my boys still keep the light on cause they didn’t turn it off. I was concerned on a 110 degree day and light on in full sun, if it would be ok. So far so good.

I bought this for the craft room, as ‘daylight’ bulbs are critical for color selection. A brilliantly white light, excellent product and LED for energy savings.
I did not expect the whirring noise so I had to read the reviews to figure out what it was. There is an internal fan built-in to the lightbulb so that it stays cool. The noise is not bad and certainly OK for a craft room.

If you need to illuminate a garage, lock-up or similar that has a standard E27 fixture then this is a good option. It chucks out so much light – 5.5k lumens to according to the rating – and in almost spherical throw. The light is ‘cooler’ than I prefer but this is pretty standard for industrial lighting. It’s not going to win any awards for appealing lighting but it does give a steady, flicker free working light suitable for workshop use and much less expensive than fitting a LED striplight to get similar illumination levels. With all the power, there’s a lot of heat output and this needs good ventilation for the inbuilt fan to manage properly but other than that it’s suitable for any indoor location. I wouldn’t put it inside a closed bracket or housing however as it could easily overheat.

These lights are powerful. I used it to replace the light in my garage and it lights it up so much better than the previous bulbs I had in there,

This works a treat in our factory and the noise isn’t a distraction there. I ordered this as we are considering replacing a number of very expensive and rather ‘limited life’ workstation led bulbs and so far this looks like the way we’ll go. 5 stars as in the right environment (our factory), it is excellent.

This is effectively the equivalent of a 1,000 W bulb, when you take into account the inefficiencies of how 1,000 W bulbs (for example in theatre lights) were deployed. The rating is 500 W equivalent. Either way, it is extremely bright, and you couldn’t possibly use it in any kind of domestic circumstance. We tried fitting it in a large workshop area, but it was really too bright for that, so we are fitting it into a cavernous garage with black walls.

As well as the E27 European Edison screw fit, which is standard on anything you buy from Ikea, this also comes with an E40 large adapter. This means that if you have existing high power bulbs, you can fit this.

Golden Review Award: 31 From Our UsersHaving purchased about 12 to 15 different brands of corn lights for my indoor gardening, this is the one that rocks out. Built in cooling fan for long life, protective cover to keep ‘stuff’ out of the light. Compact and cool surface, very bright! I run the lights in pairs in fixtures I build myself with the bulbs about 6 to 8 inches from leaves, great penetration of light into all surfaces of leaves and low heat factor. The light from the bulb isn’t as yellow as from a standard 3k CFL or even other LED bulbs, but the plants sure love it. I have noticed a quicker reaction from the plants moving them into the fruiting cycle and the plants keep their lush green, no yellowing. I use this companies 65k for vegetative growth cycles. My tomato plants started to produce easily three times the flowers when I moved to the 3k bulbs, which is better results then when I was still using CFL in the same temp rating. I use these bulbs in my garages for ambient lighting as well. At -42F this winter, it complained a little, but once the fan was warmed up, no worries and the light fired right away. NOTE: must be covered outside, so no water gets in, but you MUST allow for airflow, not a light for a sealed fixture, as with most non-incandescent lights. Bulbs you buy in big box stores, not near the quality. This Mother of Dragons is the light you want. Farmers, ya, barn light, you will love it! Workshop, better than 4 foot tubes! This flavor comes with an adapter to fit into a mogul base 120vac socket. * there, I gave them a sixth star 🙂

This ’50W Super Bright Corn LED Light Bulb(500Watt Equivalent) – E27 with E40 Mogul Base Adapter – 6500K Daylight 5500Lumens for Large Area Commercial Ceiling Lights – Garage Warehouse High Bay Yard’ is a high-intensity lightbulb for use in garages and the like – you can use it in a domestic setting, but be aware that it is SERIOUSLY bright, and also that due to its intensity, it has a fan built in, which is quite loud and intrusive in a household setting. The bulb is a ‘corn’ style, which I had never heard of, but which does indeed resemble a corn cob, with lots of LEDs arranged in a similar way to a corn cob. The light is perfectly white and very intense, which is ideal for large areas and places in which high visibility is essential.

Great light, just be aware that the fan is quite loud if you want to use it in a house.

I am now a huge fan of LED lights, I have completely changed all bulbs in my home (except garage which has the ling strip tube still), for the fact you’re paying to power 50w and getting the equivalent of 500w is a huge deal given the fact that energy providers keep increasing prices! Another good way to get this to provide more light is to buy a budget light holder from a hydroponic retailer – one that is designed to hold an E27 CFL lamp – fits perfectly and won’t require you to fit the included adapter. This will reflect all of the LED’s downwards.

I wanted to find a comparative lamp that would be a similar power from an old factory but couldn’t get my hands on one, shame as the size of this is minuscule in comparison. One of these with a reflector in a small garage is more than sufficient. Overall I never thought that this sort of lamp would produce this level of brightness.

The lamp has an E27 (ES) and also an adpter for E40 (GES).

My energy meter indicates it uses 44 watts of power so allowing for loses it is more like a 40 watt LED lamp which for its size is still incredibly bright and an evil 6500K white colour.

If I go into his workshop and he isn’t using any tools or doesn’t have music playing, you can hear the hum of the fan – which I would find very irritating, but most of the time, he has some background noise, so you don’t hear it. It’s a great big ugly bulb, which I am happy for him to have, but I wouldn’t want to have it in the house as it is far too big, ugly, bright and noisy!

  62. OnaPerivolaris says:

I got this for two reasons:

    1. I wanted to set it up as a security light in the yard
    2. I wanted to see how bright a 500w bulb actually was

The answer to number 2 is ‘very bright’. Remember the guy in Raiders of the Lost Ark who had his face melted? It’s a bit like that. When it first went on, with my face about two feet away, I screamed and thought I had damaged my eyes. It was like looking at the sun. So, first thing to remember is don’t be stupid like me. Turn it on from a good distance!

The bulb itself is large and obviously designed for warehouse lighting, hanging from the ceiling. In that setting it’s safe, as it lights a long distance and nobody is going to get close enough to be blinded. I still set it up outside connected to my security system. It took a bit of faffing (I mean, technical expertise) to get it working with my setup but it eventually burst into life and illuminated the entire yard like a sunset. It also gave out a mild electrical hum, but this was masked by the internal fan. This is the first bulb I’ve used that needed a cooling system, and it’s not too loud for what it does.

Due to overheating concerns (it would be in a waterproof enclosure outside) I’ve decided not to use it for that purpose. I have only tried it in E27 sockets but it works fine in E40 too with the supplied adaptor.

Although this is a no-name manufacturer it’s a decent unit and with 153 LEDS you can afford to lose a lot before the brightness is affected significantly. For the price it’s definitely worth a look if you need 5,500 lumens from a single source.

This really is an incredibly bright light (at least compared to anything else we’ve ever had/used in the garage) so as far as I’m concerned it works exactly as it should. The side effect is that it’s also quite noisy with a constant buzz. This isn’t so bad when you’re using it in an environment where you’re making plenty of noise (power tools etc for me in the garage) but if it was going to be used somewhere quiet it’d bug me too much. But that’s just me, it’s still a very bright light and that’s what it’s supposed to be, so all good!

A nicely made LED Corn light rated at 50W but the equivalent of 500. Standard fit is E27 or ES in my book with an E40 GES adapter.

Really designed for warehouse applications or similar, this thing is flipping bright, so overkill in most domestic situations.

There is a low background noise from the fan, and it does get warm, but no issue if used as intended.

No suitable as an outdoor light as it is not weatherproof.

Seems to be very well made, and time will tell how long it lasts, but it should be years. The price also seems reasonable.

This 50W super bright LED Corn bulb looks the part. It is large and intended for use in an office or garage. It is bright and does a grand job for use in a garage. It saves money and much better light than CFL lights. I think this bulbs has a intended purpose and it is probably not suited for the home or outdoors. Probably too bright for an outdoor garage area . If you have a largish garage, then this will hit the spot.

I think the daylight light is good and I can leave this on for a few minutes on timer once I leave the garage. It comes on instantly and for the price and fact that LED lighting last longer than CFL. This should last many years. As a garage light it is good. However, I am not sure how long it would last in a workplace like a DIY store where the lights are one 24 by 7.
    Great quality and works well.

I think we’ve all grown accustomed to the somewhat idiosyncratic LED and CFL lighting that’s become mainstream over the past decade or so.

I can remember when a 50w incandescent bulb in your shed or garage was par for the course, providing just enough light to avoid the lawnmower.

So what DOES a 50w LED look like? I checked this on a terrarium bulb holder I had handy and jeeze, it’s BRIGHT.

Clearly intended for warehouse lighting, this is complete overkill in a domestic setting. We had a dozen 50-150w bulbs around the house in the old days, but these days I’m more than happy to save myself some money an run an 11w CFL for most rooms in the house.

I ended up donating this to my workplace, as they use this light fitting in the workshop – it is NOTICEABLY brighter than the other lights they have and the preferred spot now for doing visual inspections.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersUnit failed after only a few minutes. A slight white smoke could be seen then it ceased to light at all. They say they are sending a replacement… It arrived and this time I took a video of it being screwed in. It flashed a few times then went out where as the spiral CFL worked just fine. I contacted Dragon Light directly and they immediately and without question apologised and gave me a full refund! Then they continued to try and see what the problem is that causes their LED light to not function because it should work! and in fact did when I first tried it in a regular on/off light fixture. They worked tirelessly with me asking questions sending photos and videos and checking with their engineers. We all came to the conclusion that some light fixtures simply will not work with LEDs. My fixture is at fault not their LED bulb. I am very impressed with how they handled my situation and find them very honorable. I would not hesitate to purchase bulbs from them and highly recommend them A+

My double garage was fitted with 2 regular bulbs with bayonet fittings. The light they gave of was enough to find your way around the garage but I couldn’t do any real work in there during the evenings. I was about to get the lights changed to some led battens but thought I’d give these a try before I did as they change is much simpler. I only needed an Edison E27 to bayonet adapter which cost me 3.

I was amazed with how much difference just one of these bulbs made. On its own it completely fills the whole double garage with bright white light. It’s more than enough to work by. I haven’t fitted the second bulb yet as I don’t have the adapter, but to be honest I don’t really need it.

The bulb itself is quite long so hangs down a bit. It looks a little ugly but in the garage this isn’t a concern for me.

My only criticism of the light is that it has a noisy fan which keeps it cool. It’s not massively loud, more of a background hum, but it is a bit annoying. It also comes on right away so the hum is constant.

Other than the fan noise the bulb is great, I would definitely recommend to someone looking for a very bright light who doesn’t want to go to the effort of installing anything like battens. Perfect for garages and sheds.

So this super bright bulb is absolutely crazy.

I thought it’d be good to brighten up the garage but this is a full on portable sun. The LEDs light up like the sun itself throwing light around the room – do not look at it directly though, I suspect it can do some serious damage.

It even has a fan in the bulb housing to cool it, shame it’s so noisy.

My main issue with this is that the colour temperature is not daylight, it’s too blue for that. As such I only give this 4 stars. Be under no illusion though, this is a commercial bulb, so ideally wants to be mounted high with a nice reflector lampshade to minimise blinding people.

This is a very bright bulb – I have it in my garage – and it really does light it up. It is a large bulb – and you have to make sure there is some airflow around it. The cost is about average for this type of product. It has a two year warranty – but in my sort of application I would be expecting it to last many years. Time will tell of course – but for now I am very pleased with this.

I have the 50 watt daylight white bulb. It has the E27 Edison screw fitting and there’s a converter to E40 in the box. It comes well packed with supporting documents and warranty information.
I’m not familiar with the term “corn” light bulb, but I’m guessing it’s because it looks like a corn cob. There’s a very large number of LEDs all around so the light goes in all directions. You really don’t want to look directly at it – you’ll be dazzled for a long time!
The instructions stress keeping it cool and not putting it in a fully enclosed fitting – it has a little cooling fan built in which does make a slight noise but in the likely applications (garage, workshop, warehouse, etc.) this shouldn’t be an issue.
I’ve put mine in our large loft – it had three 20 watt compact fluorescent bulbs and was still gloomy – now it’s thoroughly bright!

This bulb is ideal for our garage, where there’s only a single light fitting but you want to get the place bright enough to have a good view of what you’re doing, even in the corners. As simple to use as an ordinary E27 bulb, but far far far brighter, it’s a neat single-socket, single-purchase solution to a problem we might otherwise have solved with an array of uplighters and lamps and extension leads and so on. Naturally shadows is a bit of an issue, but the bulb is large enough that the light is fairly well diffused.

The build quality seems strong too- it’s not built like a tank, but it’s strong. The LED’s are encased in thick plastic that appears very durable, though I haven’t tried smashing it to see if I can!

A metal bottom section (or top section depending on how you look at it) allows for dissipation of the heat- there’s a lot less than you’d get from an old filament bulb, for sure, but at 50W this section definitely gets hot, and you will get some heat emanating from this bulb in a way you won’t from a domestic LED. There are also holes in the plastic at the top, the ‘air outlet’ according to the product photos, which let the heat out directly that way as well.

The light colour is about two-thirds blue-white, one third yellow-white. It’s certainly a far cooler shade of white than you’d want a domestic living room bulb to be for a comfy evening, but there is just a shade of warmth in it that stops the colour overall from getting too blue and hospital-like, so it’s reasonably nicely balanced.

The ‘DragonLight’ brand might not be something I’m familiar with, and although I normally prefer to stick to certain brands for reliable bulbs, so far I’m impressed with this one. As well as for our garage use, it will also work well for shop storefronts or communal areas that need brightening up.

This Corn LED Light Bulb by DragonLight is a very bright specialist lighting product that gets it’s name from it’s shape and the corncob pattern of the LEDs. It has a standard E27 Edison Screw cap but a large E40 adapter is included for commercial use — known as a “Mogul” because of it’s size. The bulb is rated 50W which gives a 500W incandescent equivalent so it is most suitable for very large areas or outdoor use — the bulb is not waterproof so a suitable fitting is required for use in certain areas, and be sure to check the bulb’s dimensions as it is large. At the time of this review there is no price listed so I am unable to comment on value for money — but if you are looking for a very bright LED bulb with an E27/E40 fitting this could be a suitable option if the price is right.

This type of bulb is touted for use in large commercial areas – but strong light is often needed in the domestic environment. I use the very cheap, old-style 150/200w “industrial” or “heavy duty” tungsten bulbs in my studio – 3 of them – and in my workshop, and they last a long time. (I was persuaded to lay in a stock before they disappeared from the market, following serious disappointments with earlier LEDs and other types of Energy Saver bulbs.)

Sadly, I was sent the Edison screw version of this lamp, whereas my studio lights are all bayonet fittings, so I was unable to make a comparison. I would in any case have preferred the warm white version which would be closer to the warm tungsten I paint under (never seen the point of painting in cool daylight when paintings are viewed mostly under warm artificial light). So to test it, I installed it in another outbuilding currently used mainly for storage, but also as an occasional second workshop, and equipped with mercury vapour reflector floods.

It’s very strong, and not something you would want to look directly at. But the 360 degree light dispersion makes it inefficient for use without a reflector and it was outperformed by the reflector floods in terms of light cast on the work surface immediately below. I wouldn’t choose to use it in a pendant fitting, feeling that it would best be used mounted horizontally under a barn-type metal reflector, the more efficient the better.

This particular design of lamp seems to have a fairly limited use; for example, it’s not a direct replacement either for my studio lighting or the reflector floods I use elsewhere, nor for the enclosed 500watt tungsten floods used in my machinery shed. But it would serve as a replacement for industrial bulbs of the same orientation used in open metal reflector shades. Whether it would offer the same perceived light output as a 500w tungsten, mercury vapour or metal halide lamp is another matter, and you will have to ask someone else about that; for myself, I’ve grown to mistrust LED “equivalents”. Much, of course, depends on the quality of the light emitted; the human eye can only perceive a very specific colour temperature (and the output of both mercury vapour and metal halide lamps falls off significantly after a year or two).

But the savings are worth thinking about where lights are on for lengthy periods every day. It’s certainly made me think hard again about new options for my studio lighting.

A wonderfully bright light, it is about the same size as a coke bottle. I screwed the review bulb into my inspection lamp, the rest of the garage lights were off in the photo. I realised trying to show how good it was with a photo is pretty futile, suffice that I can safely say this is the brightest light I have. It would be irritating if it were to be used in a ‘domestic’ fitting, it has a low hiss associated with the fan, so it sounds like one of the old gas lamps hissing away in the background, but for a workshop it is a phenomenal light with a worthwhile two-year warranty too. I cannot say if its value for money, there is no price associated with it, I would happily pay the going price for a lamp of this luminance which is circa 30 give or take a few quid.

The lamp holder I have, has a wire protective frame which is probably a good thing although the outside of this bulb feels robust enough to take an odd knock or two. I am very happy using it as an inspection lamp. It would be a decent light for a large shed were it high enough, I have my doubts that it would work alone as a warehouse light but coupled with sufficient numbers it should give enough light for everyday usage. It gets five stars from me…

First thing is this is larger than a normal sized bulb, it has 153 small LED’s, which cover the light, its probably twice the length of the average bulb.

Its bright, very bright, I’ve popped it in our outdoor light and it illuminates the house, bit to bright for where I’ve put it.

This is a superbly made bulb, its sturdy, arrives very well packed, comes as a E27 screw type and has a E40 Mogul Base Adapter included.

A very bright well made bulb, dropped a star as at time of review it’s not priced, hard to say its good value with no idea how much it’s costing.

The bulb failed within moments of being installed in my outdoor fixture (well protected from the weather). I contacted DragonLight at the email address provided in the box and they responded immediately. Within 10 days or so I had a new light, in addition they refunded my purchase price. Second light is working fine, and I hope it will last as long as LEDs are expected to last. First bulb had a loose housing and shorted out. This light has a fan, and it is a little noisy for indoor use. It’s great up on the back of our barn.

I bought this to replace my dead 100W bulb on my front porch and was excited to see 500W in action. However, once installed, it was maybe twice as bright at best, certainly not what I’d expect a 500W bulb to be. Disappointed but will keep it as it is. Not worth the effort to return and purchase another 100W bulb.
update: I’ve upped this to 4 stars as its still going strong 2 years on.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI’ve tried several brands of lights for both applications, some from Amazon and some from Menard’s, a big box store. I desire 65k daylight bulbs for my plants, others have been lacking the plastic cover, don’t like that, these have it and a built in cooling fan. These suckers are awesome! Plants love them! If you are into indoor gardening or looking for something for spring and starting plants, these are the bulbs you want, in either a 25 or 35 watt flavor. They also come in a cool white, (2,500K) for blooming and fruiting lighting needs.

just installed it so i cant comment on the longevity of it, but it lights up nice and bright instantly in the cool garage.

its not monstrous either, its just a little longer then a regular light, and not any wider. really good size.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersThis bulb is incredibly bright and has an excellent watt to lumen output ratio. As other reviewers have noted, it does emit a hum that seems to come from an internal fan to cool the light producing elements. This is not a problem in the garage but would be a problem in the house.
