If you want hot food or drinks when you are on the go in the wilderness or even camping this is great. It’s a bit fiddly to set up first time but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. I can’t believe how quickly it heats the food up and also drinks .. much quicker than anything that I’ve used in the last. The stainless steel cup is great too, it’s easy to hold without burning yourself and really easy to clean.

This is a well made cook system. It’s a genuine challenger to the more expensive Jetboil. Everything works as it should and is well made. Highly recommended.

Don’t cave in and buy jet boil. This is equally, if not better than most portable camping stoves available on the market today.

Easy to use and set up. Boils water in exactly two minutes flat. Great sturdy handles and easy to store and pack away. I can’t actually believe I paid 50 quid for this type of product. It is made from high quality materials and to my delight, very easy to clean up after use. Mind blowing stuff by Fire Maple.

It’s light, it’s sturdy, it’s ergonomic but most importantly it does the job! Why fork out over 100 for a JetBoil when you can genuinely get the same results with a product like this?

Water boils in under 2 minutes, sometimes even quicker. My Ration Packed Meals were ready in 5. It packs down into a small, space saving container.

Can’t really fault it at all, it’s served me on many trips away now and hasn’t negatively affected me at all. Great purchase!

Be careful not to keep the lid on while boiling or it will splash boiling hot water everywhere when ready

I love this camping stove and compared to others it is great value. I’ve used it twice so far, once on the tall gas canisters and once on the stubby small canisters. The item feels a lot sturdier on the small stubby ones but if you need to use on the tall ones you will need a gas canister adapter. A full stove of water heats in around 5 minutes and the cosy around the item keeps it warm for longer.

    To use:
Make sure metal gas adjuster is turned off (fully clockwise)
Screw the gas canister onto the stove
Put your water filled heating pot on top of the stove
Open the gas ( just a little bit) by turning the gas adjuster anti-clockwise
Press the ignition button and open gas more if needed
Watch the water boil with a smile on your face

    Good points:
    It heats fast
    Looks good
    Is compact
    Easy to use
    It has an ignition button
Includes a lid (heating things faster)
Includes a small plastic bowl (that fits inside)

    Bad points:
The handles do work but they don’t feel as sturdy when you have a lot of liquid inside.

    Great value compared to others

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersPros: less parts than the jetboil so easier to assemble, easier to pack away and less parts to lose. Feels solid and sturdy. The insulating jacket seems thinner than the jetboil and the jacket has no temperature indicator. The Fire-maple has a handle, to perhaps make up for the thinner jacket. Whilst the handle feels a little flimsy it is a useful addition for younger users.
Cons: a little bulkier, a little heavier and it took 3 min 10 sec to boil 0.5 litres in temperatures just below 0 degrees C. compared to 2 min 30 in the jetboil.
Overall: really good for the price, I was pleasantly surprised. If you’re going up a mountain or on an expedition, I’d get the jetboil to reduce weight. If you’re buying for outward-bound/schools/scouts get the Fire-Maple as there’s less parts to maintain/lose, it’s cheaper and it has a handle. But overall it’s a solid piece of kit, and well worth the money.

Stands ups well against the jet boil

I bought this for a trip away and even though I only used it a couple of times it performed brilliantly and boiled water very quickly, within minutes. I had to turn it down, to cook tins of food and stir it continuously as it would burn otherwise. It worked very well in the wind.

My only concern is that the base, is the gas canister which, is not very wide, so I wouldn’t recommend leaving it unattended and only use it on a flat, stable surface.

My wife hates me buying gadgets, and we already have other gas camping cookers, so when she saw this arrive she was somewhat unimpressed, but when she saw it in action as we sat on a very windy beach in the middle of a 6 hour Surf Lifesaving competition my daughter was competing in, she was instantly converted. Boils a mug of water in just about a minute. Even a full litre takes just over 3. Super easy to ignite and get going. Didn’t so much as flinch in very windy costal conditions with no shelter. Easy to assemble, clean and store. Uses standard screw-top gas cylinders in various sizes (I ended up getting a 445g one that doesn’t stow in the cup section, but it also means it’ll last longer). We used it for tea, coffee, soup and instant noodles. No fuss, minimal waiting and completely reliable. It’ll be coming in the car for any outings in future.

I found the fire maple while looking for quality, quick, efficient camping stoves. I love making coffee while camping with friends but was getting tired of waiting 10-15 minutes for 1 L to come to temp. My first go with the fire maple was under 5 on a windy day!

It’s compact, well designed, and looks to me like it’s going to work exceptionally well. I will say the handles are a bit flimsy when pouring max volume but by no means a deal breaker!

This has been a great addition to my camping kit, I have a range of stoves now ranging from small trangia burners to large family stoves. This fits in nicely as a compact and lightweight stove. It’s great for heating water for a quick brew. Not so great for heating thick liquids though I have found, as the heat is all directed to the centre so the food tends to overheat in the center and starts to spit from this area, you need to stir constantly to avoid this.

Top notch equipment at a fraction of the cost. This stove does everything that the higher priced brands do without breaking the bank.

I have really looked into the build quality of other better known brands and honestly there is always something about them that you think… thats a bit cheap.

Well this stove is A LOT cheaper than the main brands and the only real fault I can find is the lid.. its a bit light and plasticky.

But who cares, the performance is great and I will be making this brand my go to for outdoor adventures.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersComparing this to the MSR Windburner (433g, RRP ~110), this is a great bit of kit. I’ve also been asked to review the Star X3, so I’ll cross reference that stove where relevant.

It’s clearly built to a budget, and is a little heavier, but the compromises are mainly weight rather than performance or build quality.

So firstly, in a side by side 600ml max burn water boil test with no wind (indoors), the MSR beat this stove by no more than 5s, with the X3 version being exactly the same as this one, at 1m35s. Which is pretty quick. This suggests that the heat exchanger on the pot base is improving the efficiency significantly, resulting in lower fuel usage. In turn this means less fuel to carry on multi day hikes, lightening one’s load.

I haven’t had the opportunity to compare burn times in windy conditions, but I would expect that the efficiency of both this and the X3 to drop off somewhat, because the side vents open directly into the flame area, though the vents on this are smaller (wrt X1) so will probably be more protective. This also apparently happens to the Jetboil, but I can confirm does not affect the Windburner at all, probably because of it’s different vent design.

The base is steel and plastic – one of the areas where weight has been sacrificed for cost but not robustness – and has a bult in pizo ignitor. It is identical to the X3 stove. The pot drops in and turns to lock itself onto the base. There is not an included gas canister stand, which is a concern for a stove this tall.

The pot itself can fit just over 1.25L (vs 1L for the X3 and Windburner), and is interchangeable with the X3.

Around the pot is a neoprene insulation. This doesn’t seem to be affected by heat exiting the vents, and allows the pot to be picked up. The neoprene can be removed easily for cleaning

The handle is a simple pair of silicone coated swing handles. They’re effective, but given the neoprene insulation, unnecessary. They also swing freely and do not hold themselves neither extended nor retracted, which is annoying for packing; I was expecting them to snap into place.

The lid is opaque flexible plastic that snaps onto the pot. There is a small hole for steam, but it is inset too far for drink or pour out of. This is a much better solution compared to the X3.

There is an included plastic bowl; removing this reduces the weight from 477g to 435g.

Folded up it’s nice and tidy, but again the Windburner design is better as it manages to fit the gas canister in the pot as well as everything else, while also being smaller, whereas with this (& the X3) you’ll be storing your canister elsewhere.

It is well made and performs excellently, albeit I suspect not so well in windy weather. The weight is almost identical to the Windburner, which is an excellent achievement. The compromises for cost seem to be in exchanging aluminium for steel components, though this doesn’t result in increased weight. There are one or two design improvements possible, mainly to the vent positioning, the removal of the unnecessary handle, and the ability to fit the gas canister inside the packed away stove. Finally, it ought to have a gas canister stand included.

Compared to the Windburner you are getting identical performance (in still air) and weight, good build quality, at half the price. Between this and the X3, unless you might want to cook with a conventional pan at some point, this is the one to get, as it is lighter.

Golden Review Award: 160 From Our UsersIf you’re looking at buying one of these, I imagine you’re also looking at the more famous competitor that makes a similar model. I have both, so did a side by side comparison to test.

The firemaple brought 750ml of cold water to a rolling boil in 4mins 30 secs, while the more well known cooker did it in 6mins 20 secs. This was on a sunny day, at sea level, with a light but brisk wind.

I’m very impressed. My old cooker has been around the world with me for countless cups of tea, while the Firemaple is brand new, but even so it shouldn’t be that different. I think its time to retire the old one!

About the cooker itself it feels very well made and robust. The gas screws on easily, and there’s no disconcerting puff of gas as you tighten up the last bit. It doesn’t come with a stand, but the gas bottle is large and wide enough to support everything reliably. If you’ve never used this type of cooker, you’re best off using this to heat water exclusively. The pot is big enough to cook in, just about, but its not really spacious enough to stir things well enough to get everything cooked evenly. It’ll work, but its fiddly. For boiling water for hot drinks though, it’s perfect. You can be set up and running in minutes, and break down just as fast when you’re done. Everything packs up inside the ‘cup’ of the cooker, including the gas bottle if you use a small one. The fold-out handles on the cup make pouring a lot more secure than a neoprene handle. The piezo igniter is strong with a nice big spark, so should be ok in windy weather. Personally I would always recommend a cheap flint striker in the cup as a backup, but I’ve confident this one is reliable.

Great cooker at a great price, really impressed with this. Recommended.

(If you found this review useful, I’d love it if you let me know with a click below – thanks!)

Considerably faster than the more well known competitio

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is an excellent cook set for wild camping, it’s a really good budget alternative to a jetboil stove system at less than half the price , its an ideal solo cook kit for wild camping, trekking or hiking, the pot is 1 litre capacity do its an ideal size for your typical camping food or to use as a kettle or for boiling hot water for dehydrated meals up in the hills.

This system boils water very quickly, it’s windproof and the pot has a built-in heat exchanger at the bottom to lock the heat in and improve boil time and fuel efficiency.

The whole set is compact and weighs just over 500g so it is lightweight considering you are getting a pot and a stove in a compact set.

The pot has a neoprene sleeve around it to lock in heat and insulate the pan , it’s really good to cook with too and not just to boil water , it’s great for cooking your typical pasta and rice meals, dehydrated lightweight meals for trekking and backpacking, noodles, soups, stews , I personally think it’s a perfect cook set for one person , but it could be used for two people.

For the price of just over 50 I think it is really good value , its lightweight, compact but really durable and well made too , it has good heat control and a built in piezo ignition to light the stove easily, it has a locking handle to keep everything locked and safe when travelling.

I think it’s an excellent budget alternative to jetboil stoves and an excellent stove system in its own right, I’d definitely recommend.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis isn’t as small and compact as another camping stove I tested. However this one handily comes with a pot.
Works with a small butane cylinder I borrowed to test. I might say the pot fits really well together onto the stove and protects the flame from the wind. Being such a good fit, it works well to capture most of the heat output and as a result, if you boil water it does it pretty quickly.
Packs up into a net bag, but this bag is such a tight fit, it’s really hard to get the stove out of it which is a pain, enough for me to suggest using some other bag instead.
At around 55 it’s expensive, but it’s well made and it work pretty well in my opinion. Definitely worth considering.

Quite pricey, but works pretty well

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI have both this and the fire maple fms x3 cook sets and wanted to point out a couple of differences. this stove does not have the additional pan support the x3 has, you get a plastic serving cup with this kit which I dont mind, its handy if there are 2 of you and you need to share some food. This set has a litre capacity vs the x3 0.8 litre.
I found the handles on this set whilst they work well enough are no match for the locking handle of the x3, which is far superior.
Boil times remain consistently good at around 4-5 mins for a full litre of water, the burner has been great as well with its piezo ignitor.
overall I really like this product but prefer using the smaller and I feel better designed x3 which includes the pan support and lockout handles.
