Cutting A Branch With A Pruning Saw

  • To cut a branch using the pruning saw, you’ll need to use the three-cut method to avoid damaging the tree.
  • First, make a cut underneath the branch about a foot from the base of the branch. Stop when the pruning saw cuts 1/3rd into the branch.
  • Second make a cut at the top of the branch about 1 or two inches further from the first cut. This cut makes the branch fall off without ripping the bark and damaging the tree.
  • Third make the final cut through the branch where you want to prune the branch.

NOTE: Please read the manual and be careful before first use, as one blade cames pre-fitted.

Handy to keep in my car as I visit many farms and cut small branches from fallen trees for my cabin stove.
Care when opening and closing due to extremely sharp teeth.
A longer blade would suit me.

Great product for the price and definitely cuts through wood as needed, just wish I was as good as I used to be with this kind of tool.

Handy to have when camping and with the other saw blades everything is covered, also fit’s well in the pouch for easy storage.

I used this to clear a fallen oak branch from a footpath on my dog walking route. Cut through various limbs from 1″ up to 5″ of green wood which is about as long as the blade can accommodate and still have room to saw. I was impressed how cleanly and quickly it cut. Good and sharp, and good value for money for occasional use.

For more regular use I’d look for something branded with easily sourced replacement blades otherwise it’s essentially disposable but for this sort of occasional use, it’s just the ticket.

I took one star off of sturdiness because it’s a little too easy to release the catch accidentally in use which can cause you to slip.

Does the job, but easy to accidentally unlatch the blade in use

Very good, seems durable, extra blades a bonus. Never thought I’d use the metal blade but after sawing through a metal fence, I can confirm it works well! Just remember to let the blade do the work, no real pressure needed.

So far I have only used this on small branches which it cuts easily. I have quite small hands & I find it comfortable & easy to hold. It’s size makes it very useful when space is limited with branches close together.
Having 3 different blades makes it even more useful although I have only used the wood blade so far.
I find it easy to fold with no danger of trapping fingers. Having a holster is really helpful.
I think this is very good value for money with all the extras that are included.

Very good compact saw for camping or hiking. Sturdy, sharp, cuts through thick logs no problem. Just a little weighty compared to other folding saws.

I’m so pleased with this saw. Just finished cutting down 30 beech hedging plants, established for 15yrs, Max diameter of trunks 5 inches, 6ft tall. This saw went through them like butter and it’s still sharp enough for more. Brilliant buy, sturdy, excellent value for money and includes two extra blades and a carrying case. Only thing missing was someone to use it to cut the beech down for me *****

Bought this to help get rid of some ivy growing in my garden, as well as something to take along with me when I am out collecting bonsai in the field, well the latter has not happened yet, but I spent this evening after work sawing through the endless vines and eventually, I got through.

Blade still sharp as new, very impressed, so I have no doubt this will be up to the task of pruning trunks and unwanted branches from some yamadori!

Cuts like butter through, upto 6 inch logs, not used on much thicker yet, . Not used other blades yet. But very happy,
Great bit of kit out in the woods
Or just foraging for garden firewood, o, if you’re into pruning, would be great for that also.

Works great, I’ve used it a few times now and it’s nice and strong. It goes through the wood easily, incase you’re not used to sawing, you let the saw do the work, don’t put lots of pressure on it. I’m not sure if the other review where the guy broke it on a thin piece of wood was because he had a faulty one or not but I presume he was putting too much pressure on it.

As a replacement laplander blade seems more expensive than buying a whole new saw I thought I’d give this a go. The quick change blades for different types of wood is a good design and easy to use – like that. The locking mechanism however is a tad flimsy and it often gets jammed. If I was choosing again I’d probably go with laplander but I don’t regret the purchase.

I prune my two now 10 year old cherry trees every year.
This year my extendable branch lopper could not cope with a few of the branches.
Armed with a ladder and this pruning saw the job was a cinch.
Wood cutting blade is brilliant (not tried the other two blades yet)
Also, the provided pouch makes storage easy.

Generally a good saw but the safety button is close to where you hold it so does flip shut accidentally at times. Helped to get in some awkward branches so was handy but does need a certain way to hold it to ensure it doesn’t close while you are cutting and doesn’t always feel that sturdy. Will keep it but not so sure I would recommend to others, sorry.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought this saw to attack some trees and bushes in my garden that were long overdue a trim. The saw has performed very well, at a variety of angles on several different types of tree and bush, of varying thicknesses. I have not used the plastic or metal blades yet, just the wood one, but it has done well.
As long as you remember to let the saw do the work, this tool will serve you well. Push too hard, and the blade is tempted to flex and potentially bend, but use it normally and it is fine. I have used it one and two-handed, with good results, but you need to be careful not to touch the locking button, as the faintest of presses during sawing strokes and the blade tries to detach.Once again, if you keep your hands away from the button as you use it, and it will be fine.
Overall, I am more than pleased with my purchase, and I am expecting it to give me plenty of service in my garden jungle!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersExcellent saw that’s dealt with some fairly thick branches of both dead and green wood. Having just bought a huge house with a free jungle in the middle of Wales I can see me using this a lot. Nice touch is the extra blades and pouch but the safety catch does have a habit of catching branches and folding back into itself. Other than that it’s a great bit of kit.

Right, back into the garden – I may be some time

I have been using this for just under six months now and I have found it very easy to use, comfortable in the hand and the extra blades are easy to change. There’s no signs of damage or undue wear. My only complaint is that the blades seem a little flimsy/flexible; but so far seem to be holding up.

Used for camping and processing firewood. It depends on the wood type as some is harder etc but overall a very good tool. Flexible blade so it doesn’t easily break. Definitely comparable to the popular branded “bushcraft saws”
I’ve not used the metal or plastic blades yet but just having them is a bonus. The pouch is good and I was overall impressed.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersThis is a great little pruning saw. I have nerve damage in both wrists but found it sturdy enough to cut a branch off my tree in a few minutes. I only used the blade for this purpose so can’t comment on the other blades. It’s comfortable to hold and the lock clip stayed closed throughout. The blade could be a little thicker but it worked so I’m happy.

I purchased the saw to remove some small tree branches that were about 2″ thick, and which were protruding a little too close to my windows to ignore. For that purpose, the saw was more than satisfactory. The design of the tool (length and balance) and sturdiness made short work of the branches so ‘mission accomplished’. It appears the saw can be used for a variety of other jobs as well, which I’ll probably get around to testing.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis tool enabled me to take down a rather badly overgrown holly tree ( I will be planting 4 more trees in its place ) with relative ease and no help needed. The blade is fantastically sharp and as yet shows no signs of blunting. One downside I read about was it is very easy to catch the release mechanism with your thumb causing the blade to disengage, this is very true but with care you can avoid doing this. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product and will be buying another if and when then time comes to replace it.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersOrder arrived next day (Sunday), as advised. I used it the next day, very easy to switch blades. The handle locks in place so that the blade remains rigid for use, but a simple click on the top of the handle allows user to return the blade to safety mode storage of blade into handle.

The pouch supplied holds the 2 other blades separate from each other, and away from the 3rd blade which is still in place in the handle.

The rear of the pouch has a belt loop for use if required.
