I want to start by saying this is a good microscope for the price. The optics are fairly decent for non plan objectives. The build is solid however I’ve ran into an issue with the condenser mechanism not wanting to stay close to the slide when raised. I bought a darkfield condenser and when I raise it close to the slide (almost touching it) It dosnt want to stay locked in the position at the top and slowly falls down making it very annoying trying to view specimens using the darkfield condenser. I have no idea how to tighten or prevent this from happening. i have to put my finger underneath it to hold it up. That is my only con with this microscope. The video is suprisingly decent quality. I do plan on upgrading the optics to plan objectives eventually. Im giving this 4 stars because this annoyance with the condenser mechanism not staying in the position makes viewing with a darkfield condenser a hassle.
Within the first day, he surpassed my abilities and was showing me how to achieve goals with his scope.
Great product, easy to set up, easy to use, does exactly what was needed
I bought this as a gift for my 4th year pharmaceutical student. He gives it rave reviews. He should know.
This is a really nice microscope! I have not used the computer interface but everything else works great.
Wow what a great buy! I purchased this microscope for a project I I was working on in biology I wanted to resell it, but I fell In love with it. It’s one of the best buys here at Amazon and I’ve purchased many cheaper microscopes but non tops this one!
No problem. Exactly what I needed, and delivered in an incredibly short time.
Bought this for grandson visits. I’ve viewed some prepared slides and purchased some books for entry level microscope use. We will go for a walk and collect water samples from a nearby swimming hole to look at. I’ll be able to send them home with pictures. Hoping this will keep them interested, for a little while, in science during their visits. I’ve planned finger painting as a back-up plan in case they get bored with science…and to delight my daughter and daughter-in-law when they come to pick them up. It’s good to be a Grandpa!
I absolutely love it cannot wait till my angel takes biology well I can she grows fast enough but get them while there young and mold there brains
When I was a kid I had a microscope that showed me nothing but blurry
blotches. I hoped this would be slightly better. But It was not…
It is 1000 times, oil immersion, monsters-in-the-birdbath-better.
I wish I had this as a kid.
To my layman’s eye, the optics are good – nice and
clear and with a flat enough field.
The view through the USB camera is at least as good as through the eyepieces.
The only trouble I have had with it is actually with the scopeimage software that
comes with it. I have never been able to capture video – the files
are always empty. Still-image captures are no problem though.
For a hobby/entertainment, this is a good deal. I can actually see things with it, and it wasn’t super expensive.
I would definitely buy this again.
I bought this for my 12 year old. It was super easy to set up. Very sturdy and easy to use.
Very high quality for it’s price. We purchased this for our 9 year old daughter. She loves it and uses it by herself now.
This is a very nice product, not a cheap setup. Very nice Microscope.

My husband loves it. It does exactly what he needs it to do. Thank you!
Customer service: When the microscope arrived, the camera software was on a small disc, that does not work with a slot drive. Also, in the first day, I managed to misplace the owners manual; unpacked it and put it somewhere safe. Not quite sure where that somewhere is. Upon emailing customer support, I received a return in email within 4 hours with the link to download the camera driver and software and a pdf of the manual. Great customer service.
Microscope and Software: Fantastic for viewing yeast. Have already looked at several different cultures and used the microscope to confirm that our one culture was actively growing. Have only used up to the 40X objective with the 20X optics, but nice clear image. That translates well to the computer screen. Software is easy to use. Icons easy to figure out to save (capture) images.
Don’t even hesitate to buy. Especially if it is on sale.
Thank you Tina from MicroscopeNet for your fantastic customer service!
This is a really marvelous piece of equipment for the price. I actually went back and bought a second one for my son. He usually hates my presents but loves this one.
Great microscope! The 20x viewer paired with the 40x scope is phenominal. And it still goes up to 100x. The things I have seen so far are just amazing. I strictly use this for hobby, not research or work related, so my review is more towards hobby. The build quality is solid, this thing is well structured. The focus ring and directional rings are very smooth and precise to use. The light adjustment is also great to work with. Slides dont pinch down but on its sides so easy to put a slide in and out. The camera quality connecting to a pc is only like 1280 1160 or something, but when setting pc monitor, inhave a 4k to that resolution, it works well and is quite clear for that resolution. Not great, but clear to see whats going on. For the price if you are going to use the pc connector, go for it. But looking through the eyepiece is better obviously. If you really want the pc view opt for the 500 dollar or so one with higher resolution.
LOVE this microscope. Kids enjoying everything they can think of to examine. Spit is even amazing. This will eventually go to my office for diagnosing. Hubby wants one now for electronics as the link to computer is great! So glad we got this one.
For my first slide I used a piece of my cuticle, since it was just hanging there. I set it on a slide and put a drop of water and a cover slip over it and put it under the microscope and everything was black. I immediately panicked, but then I looked through the manual and I needed to take the lens caps off and put the eye pieces in. My cuticle showed up eyepoppingly large on my laptop screen (see cuticle photo). Next I put a drop of rain water from a puddle (see photo) in the driveway on a slide with a cover and at a very high power, I saw tiny critters moving/swimming around.
I have used the software to take a video of a prepared slide I bought (a bees leg). I just got information from MicroscopeNet for how to capture a photo with the imaging software.
I’m really enjoying this experience just for my own personal pleasure.
eat microscope. we didn’t keep it because of the price.
Still fiddling with it, but for the price I don’t know if you could beat this microscope. My biology teacher says you can’t get a good microscope for under a thousand dollars, but I think I will bring this one in just to show her the quality of the images I’m getting. I was cautious about the quality, but I’m really impressed with it. I might come back later with pictures of slides, I’m still exploring the monitor functions.
I bought this for 8th grade budding scientist! He is over the moon with the ability to look at the cell level of things! Thanks OMAX for being awesome!
I am really happy about this product, it was worth the money I pay fo
Couldn’t ask for a better ‘scope, at a great price. A must have for any science class or home filled with curious children and adults. We’re planning to make art with ours. Great images! Crisp and clear!
Works… although I am disappointed in the effort needed to get clear max (2000x) magnification. Potential buyers need to know that the magnified image shown in the ad could be misleading as to what this microscope will do. I’ll work to reduce my learning curve to get clear max magnification to work but for now I am of the opinion that hype may be the norm among the suppliers and OMAX does NOT appear to be an exception.
I also purchased slides and pipettes. These came at a reasonable price.
Very impressed with this purchase! Used it to review blood smears for veterinary medicine. Easy to use, love the feature of being able to hook it up to my laptop for larger viewing.
This microscope was great buy and we were very pleased with this purchase!! When contacted for help setting it up we had immediate assistance and got it going quickly! To me the ad should also say laptop not included!! But I guess for most it was self evident. We found this to be a excellent bargain!!
This was a gift for my wife who had always wanted her own microscope to look at ‘stuff’…childhood dreams come true. Thank you
No issues installing the software, connecting, or making videos. In fact, within 1 hour had made a video of liquid flowing out of the mango slice and uploaded it to Youtube. The device is compact, solidly constructed, and quite accurate.
Works great for Live and Dried Blood Analysis and it gives you the ability to see everything you need to see, I love it and for less than $300.00 you just cant go wrong. I recommend this 100%.
I am new to microscopy so cannot make comparisons with past use. I’m much more experienced with binoculars and spotting scopes. So as a newbie I am so far very pleased with this microscope and plan to use this extensively in various naturalist projects. The OMAX is very solid and entirely substantial. It is very intuitive to adjust and very easy to store when not in use. I am planning a pond water study and I think this will be perfect – especially the digital features. I would not hesitate to recommend this microscope.
Bought this for my grandkids, ages 7 & 5. They love to collect things to look at under the microscope.
Great microscope for the price. The computer function works great. I have never used the oil immersion so I can’t say how well that works but for the work I do with plant pest it’s perfect.
For the price, awesome. Is it a Zeiss or Olympus? No. But you can see as well on well prepared slides as you can on the more expensive instruments. I have been using microscopes for 50 years, but didn’t have one recently so went for this. Software for the cam worked well, even though my computer runs XP. Professional quality seeing at a baggain price. Only complaint is that there is some wobble but when slight push on the stage, but againn this scope is not as massive as ones costing 10X more.
outstanding microscope! very reasonable price for such quality. everything in perfect working order. very pleased. thanks!
The perfect gift for our 12 y/o autistic grandson. We were surprised when his efforts left us behind.
I do like this microscope. I am a complete amateur and a senior citizen looking for a new vista. Works just fine and is just challenging enough. Haven’t figured the camera out entirely. My picture goes wonky and so far all I know to do is to reboot.
I haven’t used it much yet, but so far has been a terrific experience. The microscope came almost entirely ready to go, very simple to set up. I’m still trying to get used to the focusing and have not yet tried the immersion oil. It came with that latter item and a dust cover too. I bought (separately) some prepared slides (and blanks, stain, wipes, etc). I found a YouTube about the microscope setup to be VERY helpful in figuring out the adjustment knobs, and connecting the microscope to my laptop (extremely simple!). The software that is supplied for the computer has several adjustments for color, contrast, etc, and I can get a pretty good image on the computer, though perhaps not as perfect as looking through the eye pieces.
The hardest part for me has been learning the terminology (haven’t succeeded yet), such as objectives, but YouTube is helping me figure it out.
This is a great affordable scope, and the software is easy to use. Having such fun with this!
This is a great scope for the price. It would be nice if it had a better resolution camera.
This microscope is AMAZING. The images that came from it on the same slide that the previous $50 scope saw as blurry somethings were suddenly in sharp focus with amazing detail! Took about a minute to figure out how to operate the optics, zooming around until we were actually focussed on our slide instead of through the slide into the light source. Then pure beauty.
The feel of it is hefty and quality. The control knobs (coarse and fine scale) for zoom and pan are magnificent and lab-grade. Installing the software was flawless and instantly started working the moment we ran it. I have no complaints, as I will be using this exclusively for broadcasting what we’re seeing up on a large monitor so all can see.
Ignore the users that complain about a lack of manual. The company sends a white paper that contains the weblink to download a thorough manual, and emailed me after the transaction to ensure I got the link.
I cannot be happier. I feel like I just saved my daughters’ interests in science and microscopy singlehandedly through this purchase.
Spend the money, and enjoy the quality. You won’t regret it.
Very good microscope but i was particularly pleased with the customer service. I am new to microscopes so I sent the manufacture a note. Within an hour I received several good resources to improve my knowledge of how to use the product. They have good instructional videos on Youtube.
This is a great microscope. It has so much flexibility. The ability to hook it up to the computer opens up an even wider world of possibilities. Easy to use. Great purchase. DNever thought I could get a scope of this quality at this price.
The microscope is a solid dependable instrument. The setup and installation, though had very poor and very minimal instructions. At times, I had to guess on the procedure protocol. even though the manual was out of date. the email sent prior to arrival should have been updated better. Of the 4 times dealing with the support team that were very nice, the last person I spoke with was most helpful and filled in the information gaps. The microscope did fit in my previous microscope case for traveling which I gladly appreciated.
This is a little dated (Made in 2011) but it works great for what I need and the price was incredible for what we got.
This is very good quality for simple everyday exams. I recommend it.
I sue this for my salt water aquarium I love the camera easier to see for me than looking through the eye pieces
I got this for my little nephew for Christmas. Excellent quality. He loves it as does his older brother who is also fascinated by the world that the microscope opens up. An age appropriate book on cells, a set of prepared cell slides, and blank slides are not very expensive and worth it as an add on. The image on the PC is great and really catches the kids imagination. My husband purchased the higher image microscope for two of his grandkids.
Based on his recommendation I purchased this one and if the nephews show a sustained interest, I will consider a more advanced one for them. The microscope company seems very attentive and they must monitor the Amazon reviews and some of the challenges people have setting up the microscopes because they sent multiple emails about instructions and whom to contact if assistance is needed. Extremely satisfied with this purchase in terms of quality and customer service.
One last hint, don’t expect to see protist in every drop of water. Also you will see some zooming by, if you want to see those view youtube for iodine stain. Be patient, have fun.
I highly recommend this..
Thank you Omax. Can you give me free scopes too??:)
…and DISGUSTING. Oh. My. God. The things that live in our bird bath – I don’t understand why the birds aren’t flopping down dead all over the back yard. And the local lake was just as bad. I don’t even want to think how many rotifers are swimming up my nose every time we swim there. Ugh, I just thought about it.
The built-in camera is not stellar, but it’s pretty good. Plenty of resolution to see the innards of the various creepy crawlies breeding in that glass of water you let sit out overnight. We have found several tardigrades (“water bears”) and the camera can capture their individual toes, when focused properly. We have captured good stills and video footage using the included software.
For any educational or hobby use, I think this microscope would work very well. Highly recommended.
Finding online support for this HAS BEEN IMPOSSIBLE – and if you find it please share it with me. Finding the manufacturer’s website is not easy and as best as I can make out, it might be omaxDOTenDOTec21DOTcom – there are other Omax companies. I am not sure if it is the mfgr’s website or yet another distributor’s website – I did leave a request for a support website. What seems clear is that whoever the mfgr is, they do not want to deal with end-users and that is a consideration.
As for how one would check for updates to the software or drivers, or get an update when Micro$loth breaks your microscope software & drivers with their next update/version of Winders, it is anybody’s guess. So far everything has been working well.
I bought this to help me get through my labs for Biology, Microbiology, A&P-1&2 for nursing school. Being an ‘older’ student, my vision is not what it used to be (presbyopia) and sharing a microscope with classmates requires much adjustment every time I get on the microscope. With the digital camera and software on the computer, I don’t even fight with my reading glasses and use the optics of the microscope – it is FAR EASIER to view, focus, and manage everything using the computer screen.
Also, I am getting into beekeeping and will (hopefully) be using this to dissect my bees to inspect for parasites. When I begin using it for that I will probably come back and update this with additional material.
This microscope is extremely high quality for the price and was purchased as a Christmas gift. The unit arrived in perfect condition. Unfortunately, my teenage daughter was not interested in using the item, so I had to return it. The customer service was excellent – I highly recommend this microscope as well as the company selling it.
The only minor issue I have had is that if the light is left on at full power for several minutes, it repeatedly switches off then on. I presume it is overheating. A short break or turning it down fixes the issue, but lose 1 star for not being perfect!
The product arrived on time. It is with out a doubt a high quality product. No complaints. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you!
I have been THRILLED with my purchase. I have used it to analyze fungal spores, plankton and rotifers in local fresh water samples. People who have never been involved in microscopy are fascinated by the things I show them and my kids have had a whole new world opened to them.
This is a not a toy microscope – it is the real deal.
So glad I found this product. I am going to buy another for my father.
I’ve been wanting a microscope that would allow me to capture images on the computer and this purchase was perfect. The only drawback was that instructions for the microscope were not included in the package when it arrived; but I received a follow-up email from the manufacturer and told them about the missing manual. They immediately sent a PDF which I printed (about 12 pages long).
My focus of attention is on mushroom spores; using the micro-details to identify the difference between two similar looking species. The price was just right for this little beauty. No regrets.
I bought this as a Christmas present and didn’t know what response to expect. Glad I did! The response was great and even I’ve been playing with it , I purchased a total of 215 prepared slides, blank slices and 300 cover slips! A friend picked up the silver hardshell case as a additional present which brought the whole thing together!
My primary concern was the mechanics of the stage movement(s). All axes were good, as well as the quality optics. We bought it for my grandson, a student in Chemistry/Biology at Appalachian State University, and he has really enjoyed it.
We received this microscope as a gift from our uncles and it’s perfect! We are a science family and will utilize this microscope to expose our kids (ages 10, 9, and 6) to the wonders of science!
This is an excellent microscope. My son loves it and it is very useful. He loves to look at everything under the microscope and it is very useful since it could connect to a computer.
easy to focus and i loved the view on the computer. you can save files on slides very easily. Highly recommend the product and the suppliers are trustworthy and fair.
I am pleased with my purchase and speed of receiving product.
I really enjoy this. I use it to study for anatomy. While I am studying, I am able to teach my daughter at the same time. It is also a great tool for study groups.
UPDATE: I got a nice email from the seller basically saying it is up to me to contact the manufacturer (OMAX) to have any problems resolved (like getting software that works, any problems with the scope, ect). If I cannot contact the mfg. they will issue a refund and take the scope back. So, like I said initially, good scope for the price, but good luck if anything goes wrong as you are on your own as far as I can tell. I changed my rating from 4 to 3 because of the initial lack of available customer suppo
The only drawback is that you will have to buy glass slides and cover slips because there is none included.
If you have more budget, look for a camera with higher resolution (megapixels), this one has only 1.3 MP and the picture is good but with a higher resolution the picture would havec higher details.
Sturdy unit, good name, works well, easy to use or learn, fair price, software installation easy (windows 7,64 bits). Great !
Features I especially like: being able to move a slide on two axes without touching it, using the nicely machined mechanism on the stage. The dimmable lamp below the stage. The heavy, solid feel of the eyepieces and viewer. The solid base.
I recommend getting an inexpensive assortment of blank and mounted slides with the purchase, since the microscope doesn’t come with any. There’s also a nice soft carrying case you can get for this instrument.
I purchased this microscope because I am very interested in microbiology. This is my very first microscope and it is amazing. It’s very easy to use. The only thing I didn’t like was that the CD for the software was small and my computer is an all-in-one computer.I had to copy the software onto a USB and transfer it to my computer because my CD drive didn’t take the CD. Other than that I’m so glad I bought this microscope. 5 stars for an amazing product!
Point blank….typically scopes under $1000 don’t deliver at oil immersion since the optics limit capabilities. BUT THIS OMAX IS SOLID and is reliable at high magnification, which is what you probably need.
Thanks OMAX….when I researched the scope I thought it was too good to be true. It works how I dreamed it would and more!
Purchased this for my daughter to use wtih her science fair project. The bacteria she could see was amazing! Took great pictures of it with the computer hook up as well.
To adequately review and determine potential issues of human health and ecological adverse impacts, field chemical sampling of media and biological tissue species samples are often required. I selected Omax’s Digital Binocular Compound Microscope to assist me in my efforts for the following reasons:
1. Quality – As an environmental health consultant, I often have to demonstrate and identify issues “real-time” as well as via analytical extrapolation. A good digital microscope should be a high quality instrument-piece of equipment. I found my microscope to meet such criteria.
2. User Friendly – The software with the digital microscope has to be user friendly, which is exactly what the Omax MD82ES10 has.
3. Reasonable Cost- It was hard to resist the reasonable cost of this brilliantly design digital binocular microscope. To be honest, it was a bargain and an easy sell to my wife.
If you are a professional scientist, college graduate or just a science buff, I highly recommend and suggest that you look into purchasing an Omax microscope for your needs.
