Expensive for one bulb but paying for the brand. Works with Alexa right away. Listing says it is 4000k when it is 2700k so a much more yellow light than I wanted. Cannot comment on longevity as only had it today.

The light is warm and evenly distributed like a classic bulb would be. On 100% they’re brighter than my old eco bulbs so I run mine at 80% to hopefully increase their lifespan as well. Can be dimmed down to 25% with the app but you need the hub to automate dimming.

Great product loads of scope for brightness, though a little pricey

This Pilips Hue bulb is one of the best zigbee light bulbs out there. However, it is often unnecessarily expensive. Often an equal result can be achieved at a much lower price from other vendors. You are really just paying for the Philips name on the bulb. I only bought this as I had a voucher bringing the cost down to 8. I have it connected to Home Assistant via Conbee 2 stick.

There’s nothing worse than getting into bed at night and realising that you’ve left a light on and you need to get out of bed to turn it off. This easy solves this issue by letting you control the bulb from your phone and/or smart speaker. Would highly recommend for the price and it gives out a good quality of light too!

Good quality and colour of light, brightness is excellent, not overstated. They dim well when using the app, don’t put them on a dimmer switch. Bluetooth connects well and in my house I can connect with a light on the ground floor whilst sitting in the 3rd floor loft room. They connect well to WiFi and integrate with Alexa, so they can be voice controlled and on a schedule without a specialist hub. I got mine when they were on sale, as they are an expensive bulb.

I think they have changed the listing of what I purchased. Mine were 9W and 806 lumen. Definitely giving out that level of brightness and as bright as many bulbs that “claim” 1100 lumen.

can’t comment on longevity as i don’t have it long enough yet , but if previous purchases are aything to go by i am confident it will last a long time.
Great for security and safety as i have it paired with a motion sensor so light comes on as soon as i walk in the hallway at night before i open front door , or if returning home it comes on as soon as i enter, also can be controlled from phone app so can switch on/off when not at home.

These bulbs are pretty bright, and you can control the brightness through the Alexa app (I’ve not used the voice control for brightness though).
They integrate perfectly with Alexa and you can configure it to come on and off on a schedule so when you’re away on holiday, the light can still come on and off (like our normal routine would).

Security suggestion: create multiple on/off entries for each day so the times are staggered. Criminals aren’t stupid (well, not in every meaning of the word anyway).
If you’re away for a few weeks and they already think you’re not home, they probably already know the light came on at 8pm sharp for the last 3 nights. Staggering the times makes it a bit more “human” like. Especially if one day it’s 8:13pm, and the next day 7:56pm.

None of the non-branded smart bulbs work for me, as there is always a connection issue but Hue ones are the only ones I trust and use as the connection is great (I dont need to do much) and if you wait you can get the bulbs on sale at the same price as non-branded ones. It def is my biggest reason for going with Hue ones, reliable and quality comes over price.

It’s a great, easy to use lightbulb. You just download the Phillips app, switch it on and off you go. I’ve had WiFi bulbs before which are very difficult to configure but this works perfectly. It’s not very bright so it’s ideal for a lamp.

The Philips Hue bulb arrived as part of a bundle with a new Echo, arriving the day before. Initially I set the bulb up with the Hue app via Bluetooth (make sure you download the Bluetooth app, and not the one requiring a Bridge) which is just so simple to do! Control on/off and brightness with the mobile app when in bluetooth range. Since then, my Echo has arrived and once again, set with the Philips Hue is just so simple. These bulbs are expensive compared to some others, but they just work – simply and easily.

As you’d expect the installation was quick and painless, and the integration with Alexa remains seamless. The bulb is bright enough and reliable so far. I can see it lasting a good few years.

I have to knock off one star as Philips Hue are not the most cost effective smart bulb around, but for ease of use they get 5 stars.

Golden Review Award: 161 From Our UsersBrilliant bulbs. Have them in every room. Work great with alexa. Fully adjustable brightness via app and voice command (alexa). I did once buy an off brand bulb and after 2 hours of unsuccessful setting up and the terrible urge to launch it out the window I sent it back… Only to get another apparently decent brand but unfortunately every time some idiot in my house flicked the light switch instead of using their voice, the bulb had a total fit and refused to work for around 5 minutes… So I forked out a bit more cash and bought one of the Hue bulbs.. Haven’t looked back since… I now have them in every room. They are brilliant. Work every time without issue.. So if you also have an idiot within your home that can’t get their head around not touching a switch, then these are for you, because they work straight after the idiot has left the switch alone.. No having to wait for it to reconnect… If you lose Internet connection within your home then obviously go get your idiot switch toucher back out their cupboard and let them flick away.. Also.. Side note… Only works with voice command of everyone in the house knows the name you’ve given to the bulb… Like our ‘living room light’… Which hubby still says ‘sitting room light’ and seems to think the bulbs or alexa is broken… When in fact he’s just an idiot… Who also flicks switches…

I was tentatively looking at home automation and saw the price of the bulbs and was put off for some time. However.

For energy efficiency these are great. I often run them at minimal light prior to bed time to prep the kids to bed. Variable light settings seem to reduce our electricity usage significantly. It looks like Alexa will soon be updated to include energy usage, so will be interesting to see if my observations match Amazon’s measure.

Easy to use – plug them into the socket and leave them turned on. Let your home hub of choice do the turning off/on and dimming.

Longevity – don’t know, but they haven’t failed on me yet.

Adding them into a routine is fantastic. Shout at your home assistant and have rooms on before you get there.

Long term return on investment in savings perhaps, but definitely lots of value.

I see lots of reports on Reddit reviewing cheaper or supermarket brands. Seems none of them come close to the range of light that can be output nor the quality of the bulb itself, even the compatibility with anyone not Phillips.

Warning though – before committing to a multipack look at the cost of individual bulbs. Got mine 20% cheaper than a multipack by buying singles!

The fact that no extra app is required to control these from the top echo devices is a huge bonus when setting up the less technically able relatives.

After plugging in and switching on, just discover the device and then rename it using a voice command and optionally set the room it is located in as a group. Job done!

Now if they were the same price as the cheaper wifi bulbs then I would only buy these.

  45. Anonymous says:

But having got one bundled with my last Echo I am a convert & have bought two more!

Don’t always work perfectly with Alexa but that could be Amazons fault, not Philips…

I haven’t bothered setting routines but having voice/app controlled lights is a great novelty & also really useful in certain rooms, definitely recommend them!

    A very nice lamp.

I received mine technically free when I bought an Echo 4th Gen.

I’ve had Amazon Echos for 4 years now and have automated many things, including light bulbs.

Until now, they have all been WiFi, working from the 2.4Ghz signal, they’ve worked well, but after changing my router, I have had connection issues, with constant dropping out, throughout the day.

The new Echo has a built in ‘Hub’, and this is what this light bulb connects to.

I must say, I’ve been very impressed. It was immediately found by Alexa (you just say ‘Alexa, discover devices’, and she does.)

I then went into the Alexa app to change the name, and that’s it. It’s now ready to go.

The lamp itself is very nice, it’s a nice warm temperature, very similar to a traditional incandescent lamp.

The beauty of an automated light bulb as opposed to a plug, is that you also have the option to dim to a level of your choosing.
It works really well and I have it constantly set to a level of about 60%, giving good illumination, without being overpoweringly bright.

Overall, I’m really impressed with this Philips lamp. Simple to connect, very good connection reliability and the ability to dim have convinced me that this is definitely the way to go.

I will now be changing everything over to ‘Hub’ control.

I hope you found this review helpful.

I have a number of these, many in multi bulb fittings which are not easily accessible. Over a couple of years, due to wifi issues, I find that my various bulbs can sometimes drop off of the network and become “unresponsive” in the Alexa app. I recently discovered that each of the Hue bulbs has a unique serial number that allows me to reset it on the network – my other LIFX bulbs do not have this and I have spent many hours turning lights on and off to try to reset them. In terms of quality, the bulbs are very bright on 100% but dim down providing appropriate light whenever you require. So much happier with the Hue than the LIFX.

It works very well with Alexa, 4 or 5 levels of dimness, good if you want to set a dim ambient brightness in the room.

As the main bulb in a good sized bedroom it isn’t bright enough, only equivalent to 60w at best. Until they make supercharged economy bulbs that reach the equivalence of 150w will they be useful, then you have all the settings you need in a single bulb. Having 5 levels of dimness isn’t really good enough.

These are really versatile smart bulbs with the standard UK bayonet mount. The white (and colour) bulbs can be controlled via a bluetooth app on your smartphone, a Hue Bridge, and the Zigbie hub on the Amazon Echo Plus.

The bulb comes well packaged but unfortunately the QR code on the box doesn’t work (I tried it both ways up).

The light is bright and clean, and can be dimmed using voice commands once you’ve linked in your smart home devices (I use the Echo Dot, Echo Show 5 and Echo Plus) to the Hue Bridge, or can also be adjusted using the app.

Philips provide 2 apps, one for Bluetooth control and another for control via their hub.

Alexa can also directly address the bulbs, but if you are using a hub there is a known and well documented problem with Alexa ceasing to recognise the Hue system. We had to perform a factory reset and link the hub to a different account in order to get Alexa to talk to them again.

Using the hue app and adjusting settings my lights will all automatically turn off as i drive away from my property, and alternatively my hallway light will come on as I arrive close by to my property. They also slowly come on in the morning during dark mornings.

This is my first smart bulb so I went for a basic one. It works with Bluetooth so no need for a hue bridge. It was easy to set up with the Philips hue Bluetooth app. Easy to use app. Can turn light on/off and adjust brightness through the app. Can also set up a timer for light to turn on or off. Also connected it to my echo dot. This took a little longer as it didn’t recognise the device but turns out all I had to do was to hold phone closer to the lightbulb. And now it works with Alexa with no problems. Very happy with my purchase

If you can afford please go and buy them! If you cannot just buy one! One tiny little bulb and try it! Perfect addition to living room! Worth every penny! I bought this around Christmas time. Recently installed it.

I’ve made my home very smart and eco friendly, and this Philip Hue has been a great addition. Although slightly pricey, it’s an overall great product, does what it should, Alexa and Google assistant integration via Bluetooth is great, and both are very responsive.

It comes with simple instructions, and took me under 5 minutes to setup.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase, and since, I have bought 3 more.

I def’ recommend this very user friendly, smart and convenient light bulb. I hope you’ve fund my feedback useful, if so kindly do hit the yes button below. Thanks for reading and feel free to ask any q.

Light bulb is not bright enough even at 100%, but Alexa integration is epic!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI have a small bedroom but had no light to get to the bed without bumping into things but with my Philips hue I just ask Alexa to switch my light on, climb into bed and ask her to switch it off – no more bumping into cupboard handles or the wooden bed frame – would recommend as its very easy to set up I’m 73 and I did it!

Based on Bluetooth only, I do not own a hue bridge.

Very easy to setup, just download the app and run through the step by step instructions.
The new firmware update allows setup of routines, its nice being able to set the lights to slowly turn on in the morning.

Very easy to install with Hue app.
Can get great effects. Not as bright as some but seem very reliable and perform well.
Just too expensive as all Hue products are given the new entrants into the market. Come on Philips – you have competition now, it’s time to price appropriately.

Arrived 5 minutes ago. Already working with Alexa unlike the cheapo version that arrived yesterday and will be returned tomorrow! You get what you pay for. I’ve now got three different Hue bulb fittings working around the house and not a moments problem with any of them.

Very good easy installation to connect them to the alexa device.

Not cheap but I’m slowly replacing my whole house with these as they’re worth it. The set up with the hue app is straight forward and the ability to customise rooms, routines etc is brilliant. Mine turn on automatically if it’s after dusk and I’m within a certain range of my house such as on my way home from work.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought this bulb to use with my Amazon Echo. Had previously used cheaper WiFi connected bulbs, but the light often tended to be quite sharp and uncomfortable; so I am glad these Phillips Hue bulbs no longer require you to buy the control bridge!

Connecting was seamless and couldn’t have been easier – simply installed the bulb, and Alexa straight away said that a new light was recognised – then just went on the Alexa app and named the lightbulb. That was it!

Light is nice and comfortable – I like the ability to dim the bulb, so can ask Alexa to “turn the light down to 50%” etc. Also able to add it to routines on the Alexa app; e.g. automatically turning the light off when you say “goodbye” etc.

    Would recommend.

The light bulbs are great, however, it does not connect well with Alexa, had to use Hue Phillips App instead but in order to be able to control the lights away from home, you need to buy Hue Phillips Bridge at a 45 cost.

Purchased this to use with Alexa for my elderly Mother’s bedroom, she now can get into bed and say Alexa turn off light and light goes out. I didn’t find the set up complicated I downloaded the hue Bluetooth app & registered then linked this account to her echo show, I was surprised how bright it was and I can also get Alexa to dim the lights,if you don’t have Alexa you can always use your phone, very happy with my purchase, does what I wanted it to do.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThis product is perfect!!
I was surprised to be honest about it.
I initially saw these were screw in bulbs then looked at the cost of changing my old bayonet ones… when I stumbled across this one.

It’s perfect and it makes life so much better in the bedroom.
I am no longer left to get out of bed when the mrs refuses to switch the light off 🙁

This was bought to go with an Alexa but she has it connected to the s8 by Bluetooth

Set up was simple and using it is simple.
It also works like a normal light ie from the light switch in case the app user is out the house and you think you will be stuck in the dark

We are intending on replacing every bulb in the house with these as it’s simple setting them up and once you have a smart light you won’t regret it .

It has three main settings bright dimmer and nightlight but you can set your own preference.
This one is only white but I have noticed you can buy for a bit more coloured ones.
I’d say go for the coloured ones as you will have more fun with them rather than the white.

These are excellent !! Buy one immediately

Update now connected to echo dot gen 3 and was simple to set up.
