Not quite sure whether it’s the angle or density of the spiral, or the sharpness of the edge or point (or a combination of) but for whatever reason, while these auger bits are functional, they are nowhere near as good as they could be (as evidenced by another brand version I have). Should be fine if you have easy to moderate ground to go through but wouldn’t recommend for anything above that.

Great for drilling holes for gardening, not so if the ground is very stoney as I found. But still great value for money definitely recommended

Don’t expect this to work on hard ground in the way I was expecting it to unless you have a very very powerful drill. The item itself is pretty good and seems well-made, but you’ll need a suitable tool if you intend on using this with any degree of success

These are very sturdy and very efficient to dig the hole with the hart soil

Very useful, either for digging a single hole for one plant/bulb, or to loosen ground over a larger area. Ideal where the soil is very hard or has many roots

Well made and ideal for small plants and bulbs.
    Delivery was very quick too
    Thanks

Great handy tool, works with battery drill but better with bigger mains drill

This is invaluable for planting in very hard soil.
I saw this used on a YouTube video and thought what a great idea, very glad I bought i

Bought this auger thinking it may help (got a dodgy back so can’t bend over for long).

This auger was simply amazing! 20 seconds max to get through hard compacted soil which had stones and slate in it as well as roots from previous box shrubs.

Planted 18 shrubs in about 15 mins

Would have taken at least an hour if not more

    Great product highly recommended

Bought this auger drill bit having seen a different advert elsewhere…and its great…used at the allotment, in soil that had already been rotavated and it was great…as others say the hole can refill…I found it best to water the soil and allow that to drain in (as it had been dry for several days)…then drill down, and pull drill in and out a few times to make a clean hole…planted my seed potatoes with a lot less fuss, less strain on the back – and quicker. Just a note that I bought these for the larger bit…however I was quite surprised how small the smaller bit was….but I hadn’t looked at the dimensions that closely…having said that…will probably cause less disturbance if planting small bulbs in the garden. But my potato planting was priority!

In hard or semi-hard ground, these drill perfect round holes. I’ve even used them to extract stubborn bramble rhizomes that a rotavator can’t reach.
Probably good for helping dig fence-post foundations too

Does what it says on the tin – easy simple and accurate planting – just got to hope the bulbs come up!

Arrived on time and is sturdily built my ground is top soil withe rubble underneath I used my dewalt 18 volt drill and it worked a treat so I went out and bought some more bulbs and are in the process of planting them I would highly recommend this produc

Tried it thinking it probably wouldn’t work well in my heavy clay soil.

It worked a treat. Much much better than my circular manual trowel bulb planter. Attached to my 18V drill i my new device very quickly excavatures a neat hole (6 inches deep in my case) ready to pop a bulb in.

    Perfect.

Bought for my son who lives on a small farm…. He laughed at first but now tells me it’s brilliant.
Planted bulbs in a quarter of the time in hard ground.

I’ve only used the larger one and it was perfect for 9cm pots.

be careful the big bit doesn’t hit a stone and stop. It can then torque the drill round in the hand.

These are very nice quality. But I do need to buy a more powerful cordless drill to use with these. I had soft soil at home, so my drill could cope. But I doubt it very much if my drill would cope with drilling the clay soil of my allotment. But I think the auger would drill the clay soil ok, with the correct drill

2 high quality thick metal augers, one small and one larger. They will obviously last a long time and take the hard work out of breaking up heavy clay soil. I wish I’d found them years ago! They arrived well packaged in their own box within a larger Amazon box, and brown packing paper and were delivered very quickly. I’m very pleased and will definitely buy again, in fact I’ve recommended them to my Dad!

Purchased this to aid bulb planting and it works really well. Unlike traditional bulb planters it loosens the soil rather than compacts it.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a very strong. substantial and well made solid core auger. I expect it will last some time.
As it is solid. it is a more heavy item so I use it with a more powerful drill unit to avoid straining my smaller drill.
The smaller hollow core accessory auger is a nice bonus and ideal for small holes too.
The plant labels are a nice touch too!
(I have a heavy clay soil and some stone so didn’t think that a hollow stem auger would last very long),
    Recommended.

Used to plant spring bulbs in late November/December.

The smaller of the two bits was very effective at drilling holes for bulbs in very clay laden soil and in much more loamy soil.

However the bigger bit really wasn’t fit for purpose. I can’t work out why because it’s well made and feels sturdy, I think it must have something to do with either the surface area of the bit or the type of soil I was trying to drill into, but I’ve no knowledge of this kind of tech/engineering so can’t be sure.

I’ll still try the bit again next year to see if I can get more luck.

    Well made though, both bits.

    Labels were a nice addition.

Just want i needed to create a hole to cement my line into, broke up the soil so to make digging the hole a lot easier, used it to break the soil up to make ii easier to remove the earth. A lot cheaper than hiring a post hole borer. can still use for planting out this year, handy to be able to use a cordless electric drill.

They feel really solid and work well, tried both now.
My tiny gripe with it is the point on the smallest one could by sharper to get it started, but that’s only an issue as the ground is sooo hard. When it gets softer I’m sure it will be just as good as the larger one.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersUsed the smaller drill to plant 100 or so bulbs.
Build quality – feel sold and good, the end of drill – rounds a little easier than I like, but the main blade looks fine.
    despite hitting chalk many times.

    Update:
Used the larger one, the same results, just heavier, especially when ‘clagged’ up with clay.

Overall easier than digging, but I do expect to be replacing these within a few years.

Really worked well. Did not like catching on biggish roots, but if you are careful they work really well. I have a variable speed battery drill so can adjust as necessary.

The black auger works great need the correct soil condition the green auger it needs a point or a small auger on it as it stops after about an inch not much use m

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersHello fellow Amazonians
I would beat about the bush- these tools are FANTASTIC! Soil is no match and these tools will clear a good sized hole both width and depth. Weedy soil can be rucked up and the weeds removed. Stony soil will make the augur clunk but those stones will come out with encouragement.

My neighbour, who was planting a row of privet with help from a friend, used the augur to dig the planting trench. What was expected to be an all day job, was reduced to only a couple of hours (and the privet looks lush and happy). The friend, I was informed, had gone home and bought a set of these augurs for his own use. I would say that alone speaks volumes for this product.

Two things I would mention; 1. The augur does not like roots. Take care if toiling near established plants or trees. Nothing especially bad happens, but the blade does get stuck and a little tangled. 2. I have used this with a WIRED drill. I expect a cordless would be great too, bearing in mind the battery life will affect the quality of the augur turn as the power diminishes.

This really is a great time and effort saver, it prevents the need to slog away digging and forking over soil. What was an impulse buy from an ad on Facebook, has changed the way I garden my beds forever.
