    Works well
Works well and keeps things totally dry, but it came with four door grips and the roof bag came with eight straps to fasten it down with. Either it should have come with eight door clips and they were lost in transit, or your expected to buy four more Good product though and it packs away really neatly

This pack got me 2,800 miles from coast to coast of the US without any issues. Great material build, weatherproof, and honestly pretty quiet. The included door hooks worked like magic, though make sure you also get the specific meshy cloth to go under the pack if you’re fixing it straight to the top. I found that you shouldn’t have any issues with water or tearing if you make sure to put the zipper at the back, and fill out any empty space inside the pack (to decrease the amount of space the fabric has to flap). I also got a pair of Kanulocks to make sure it had a bit more security overnight, which gave me a a lot of piece of mind. Overall, truly a 10/10, and could not recommend enough!

Secures easily to roof with or without roof racks as long as you have the tracks for a roof rack attachment.

We drove across the country with this packed to the brim. It was easy to install, didn’t slip or move & stayed completely waterproof!

    Very durable
Better than expected. Stood up to being fully loaded on a 5 hour drive. Put a ply base in and fixed to a roof rack. Didn’t want weight on my car roof. Worked really well

Used it for travel in all weather conditions, close to 2,000 km motorway driving.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAMAZING PRODUCT.
This product worked very well. We traveled from California to Minnesota (1900 miles) and had no issues.

I saw some reviews that made me uncomfortable about it but after using this product I believe most issues are from the consumer not the company.

We traveled 80 miles per hour the whole way and had very little sound issues. Fill the bag to capacity as sound issues are probably from the bag flapping in the wind if not filled to capacity.

We used the hooks for the doors and worked well. We did not strap to our crossbars as it was not needed and the door hooks worked amazing.

Overall excellent product but it does effect mileage but not as bad as I was expecting.

    A must product for traveling.

    Good cubic volume
Brought this roof bag from a recommendation. Has good cubic volume. Fits as much gear in as does my roof box. Fitted it flat to trailer as extra storage. Well made and good quality fabric. Worked a treat.

    Great value
This is a lot cheaper than a fixed box and does the same job. Very sturdy @ 120kph on the motorway. The zip is good quality. The only thing is the straps had to be wound around the roof rails a few times as they didn’t close tight enough when the straps were tied to the limit. Would recommend.

    Seriously strong
I bought this after struggling yo make a decent job of putting a tarp over my roof rack. This bag is fabulous, really sturdy material and well made. I was nearly put off by a review that said it wasn’t waterproof but we had no problems in the rain and it is hard to see where water could get in unless it was installed back to front. Well designed, well made and stylish appearance with its blue band, i love it!

Honestly had zero issues with this. Read reviews so was very hesitant. We took precaution and put everything (that would fit) in a trash bag. We had to hard suitcases and one soft, along with a couple backpacks. There were miscellaneous things and nothing got wet. We ran into heavy rain twice and light rain once over 5 days. It did a great job over the course of 2400 miles.

I bought this in April and didn’t start using it till August, I packed it up and drove from Washington to North Carolina and had no issues!! I didn’t have to readjust it once ! I was worried it wouldn’t actually fit on my Chevy Cruze but it was perfect , I did have a dent once I took it all off but just popped it back 😂 I went through wind and rain and my stuff was dry !

I really like the robust materials of construction and the multitude of strapping. My SUV has built-in side rails. I mounted my roof racks as far apart as possible and first placed a protective mat on my roof. The carrier fit nicely between my fore and aft racks and the strapping on all four sides was most convenient to tighten. The only negative has been that as I was driving through JAX in a gusty, torrential downpour for about 30 minutes the carrier did leak a considerable amount of water :-( I had prepared for this eventuality by having my dry goods in bins within the carrier and so my items arrived safely. Still glad I bought this.

Excellent product, best I found online. Easy to set up and pack away in the bag provided. Cheaper than buying a roof rack and box. Straps are a bit of a fiddle but fine once you get the hand of them. Before setting off, make sure you tie up the loose straps otherwise they will tap the car and bag when driving.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe were in a bind. We needed to take our daughter to college in Chicago (300 miles away) and there was too much stuff for our Mazda3 AND we don’t have a rack. We purchased this pack at the last minute and it is FANTASTIC. Solid, thick, waterproof (went through a rain storm), heavyweight straps and hooks… it held 3 STUFFED IKEA Fraka bags (could likely have held more) and some boxes. We drove the whole way at 75 mph and it did not budge! The hooks fit right onto the frame of your car, under the weather stripping, and are more solid than you can imagine. Wonderful! I’d recommend this to anyone who doesn’t have a rack and needs more space in the car. We plan on using this constantly for the next few years. STELLAR product!

We took this roof bag 1700 miles through heat and torrential rain. It never leaked or shifted. We used the included doorframe clips, which were super easy to install and remove when we were done traveling. The capacity is excellent. I test loaded it on the ground just to see what we could fit. We ended up traveling with an umbrella fold wheelchair, three carry on suitcases, and an 18 gallon plastic bin. Excellent value for the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersCargo roof bag on a Mini Countryma
Product comes in it’s own storage bag, but not sure I’ll ever get it back in there!
Fitting to the roof of our Mini Countryman was pretty straightforward. The door frame clips attached ok. The protective roof mat fitted well between the roof rails. The cargo bag fitted the space between the front of the roof and the aerial. All good so far. I tightened the straps right up for driving around unloaded, but not tried driving with it yet. I’ll be loading up the car in a couple of days, so I’ll update this then.
**Update: roof bag loaded up easily with all our luggage (2 adults and 2 teen-agers). Plenty of capacity left unused. We encountered some rain during our trip but the contents started dry as a bone. Bag stayed safe and secure with no movement, and straps started in place. Very happy with this purchase so far.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAlmost completely impressed.
My wife and I wanted to get an overhead travel storage unit for traveling across country. I purchased this based on reviews and price. Overall I was very happy with the product. It packs and unpacks very easily. It was very easy too set up as well. It did rain and it held up quite well. (I had read that other people had issues with water and wet weather penetrating the fabric.) We drove over 3000 miles and in that time we had only two issues.

    1. The unused straps have a velcro system that does not hold up to wind gusting by as we drove 85-990 MPH. We had to stop many times in order to reassess the straps; otherwise they flap against the car and its very loud and distracting.
    2. (See attached photos) We had one strap that tore almost entirely in half. And it was not a load baring strap. He had it unattached. The wind cut through the fabric in less than 1500 miles of travel.

We have not asked for a replacement or our money. (If they wish to replace the unit we will not turn it away.) Overall I was happy with everything about the product. It holds a lot. If they could fine tune the straps I’m sure that others would love this for travel.

    Sturdy constructio
Thoughtfully-designed and well-built. The roof pack attached securely to the roof of our car even though the car has no roof rack or rails on top. Had more capacity than we needed, actually. Instructional videos online repeated information that was obvious to me, while being more vague about how to secure the carrier with straps. I should have been a bit brighter in grasping how to use the straps, but was concerned about safety and would have liked more explicit instructions to reassure me I was doing int correctly.

I tried to contact support re registration not working from my smartphone but got no response. Registration from my laptop worked fine, so no problem with that in the end.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWish I had opened the box back in 2020, but had no place to go during Covid!
Purchased this during covid and it has sat in the Amazon box unopened until last week when I remembered I had it and I was maxed out on space inside of my MercedesML350 SUV for a trip. Upon opening the box, and seeing what I bought (two years ago!), I was impressed. Easily found a video on UTube to help in putting it up on my roof. I don’t need the clips that come built into a compartment in the great bag you get to store the Roofpax when not in use, but I love that you get a bag to store it. I actually used the storage bag for more items to take with me on the trip! I bought the 19 cf one and you have TONS OF SPACE!! WOW!

My vehicle is black and so the Roofpax even looks really stylish and it is super easy to tie down and go without a thought. You also get a little combination lock and that’s like the icing on the cake!

Again, wish I had opened the Amazon box to see what I had purchased back in 2020. Now I don’t know what I would do without this roof bag. Makes me want to book more trips just to be able to use it and knowing that I have expanded space to take more with me than just the space in my SUV! I have a Mercedes ML350 and this roof bag seems like it was made just for me. It fits perfectly between the rooftop bars and I purchased the rubber mat they suggested to lay on the roof to keep the bag even more secure and avoid any scratching of the roof too.

Impressed and a great investment. Wish I had opened it back in 2020 when it came from Amazon! LOL

We have always been a family that has get aways in the UK or goes camping and often have had to go in 2 cars.

This bag made such a difference going camping last weekend and it fit in aloy more than we expected and the fact that we could put it directly onto the roof made it super easy.

I just wish that there was spare hooks available to purchase as we have somehow lost one already.

    Would definitely recommend

Used this to go camping. Took the tent, sleeping bags x4, chairs x4, clothes and a few other things. Still room to spare but was conscious of not over filling on the first use. Handled motorway driving no problem. We have no roof bar so used the extra ties through the windows for extra security. Perfect add on so there is room in the ca

This rooftop cargo carrier is awesome! I am moving from California to Alabama and I was so surprised at how much I was able to load. I’m curious to see how it holds up in the rain and winds I am going to drive through. The one thing I didn’t like was the lack of instructions on how to install the carrier. I’m excited to see how well this carrier works

I love the amount of things I can pack in this puppy. The only complaint is that it will sound like you've left your window open if you have to use the latches. Wish I had a roof rack, but then I would have a hard shell. The product is well made, with plenty of buckles, and I need to repeat, ridiculous amount of space for road tripping.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEasy installation, waterproof, and great customer service.
We have had the product for two years. The price point, quality, and warranty are excellent. Last trip (over 4th of July 2022), we noticed some of the interior peeling. We did go through some rain and one of our items did get wet. When we eventually go home, the pack had ripped in the corners. A lot of this could be due to storage in MN climate and/or how we chose to pack.

The pack is so incredibly large and easy to use that we stuff everything we can fit into it! It makes traveling for my wife and I with our 2 teenage daughters and infant in a small crossover a breeze! I have actually zipped all 4 of them inside the pack.

I was COMPLETELY waterproof until the interior came off this last trip. I emailed customer service and Donna ask a few purchase questions and my shipping address and had another sent to us asap! This was so nice!
Overall we love this purchase! I recommend to friends and have bought it for my brothers bday.

Me my wife my child had quite a bit of luggage we needed to take with us. The roofpax withstood high winds rain and blistering Sun did very well on the car ride. every time I stop to use the restroom or stop to get gas I did snug it down each time just to make sure our load was Secure . satisfied customer to say the least.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSafe Carry Park City, UT to Providence, RI
Having read other reviews, I packed carrier FULL and tight – it held tons!! Being concerned about water tightness, I protected most items
I placed in the carrier in waterproof bags, however, though I never experienced torrential rains, I did have a few showers over my 3 day journey and everything remained dry. No water seeped into carrier at all. I secured carrier to my side racks. Did not need to use enclosed window attachments. Directions for securing carrier to side rails were very easy to understand. Was a breeze to secure. Carrier held tight and secure the entire trip. Admittedly I checked the straps with every gas stop, but never needed to re-tighten. Was secure. I did purchase an additional protective mat for under carrier as added protection for my roof and stability against movement of carrier. Not positive I needed the extra mat. I am very glad I purchased this carrier. I highly recommend it.

I was skeptical about buying a soft shell carrier. We traveled from Houston, TX to Vancouver, WA via San Francisco. We went through tremendous wind for 2 days while going through AZ and NM. It bumped around a bit, but never broke loose. I reinforced the carrier with cable ties but don't really know if I actually needed them. We stayed in Portland for 3 weeks and Seattle for 3 weeks and this product endured thunder storms and lots of rainy days. Everything inside stayed nice and dry. The zipper is high grade and never popped open or ripped. The protective material that I put under the carried moved around a lot, that was the only downside but the car roof didn't have 1 scratch. I highly recommend this product. Great value!

I am not one to review Amazon products but I felt like it was my duty to share about how great this carrier is. We just returned from a road trip that took us from Denver to Bend and back, with pit stops in Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone. Encountered an intense rainstorm in WY, high heat, lots of bugs, plenty of wind, and the carrier was up for all of it. We used the 19cft carrier and were able to fit an extra large suitcase, 2 large/medium suitcases, a carry-on size bag, a stroller, and a hiking backpack. The noise level of the carrier on the roof was very minimal. If everyone in the car was completely silent you could tell ever so slightly it was up there, but how often does that happen with a family of five in the car? The strap system worked great and couldn't have been more simple. We have cross rails on our vehicle and I would recommend strapping on each side in addition to the front and back, just gave it a little extra support through those intense central WY winds. It did take a small bite out of our mileage but that is to be expected and was also greatly dependent on how fast we drove. And all of this for an actual fraction of the cost of the high end hard top carriers. Seriously could not have been happier and definitely couldn't have done this road trip without it. Thank you so much Roofpax!!!!

Sent my wife to a music festival with one of our kids and his girlfriend. Four days camping, and they had a lot of gear...too much for my Impreza to manage. Wanted a less-expensive option than a roof rack system, and this fit our needs nicely. Can't comment on water resistance since if was hot AF there, but the bag looks to be built very well. Held all the extra gear with a little room to spare, easy installation too. Overall a great low cost choice.

This bag saved the day! We were headed to a baseball tournament a few hours away and with gas prices, we opted to take our 2018 Honda Accord. Between the car trunk and the bag we were able to pack a 10 person tent, a quick shade, multiple blankets, 2 medium sized coolers, 4 bags of clothes, baseball gear including a Catcher’s gear bag, 4 decent sized camping chairs, and there was still some room to spare. We don’t travel a ton so we didn’t want to go through the process of buying an $800 Thule. This bag was a lifesaver and I would recommend it over and over again.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat Quality but will ruin your door seals for good
We bought this for a local weekend trip and were very pleased with the quality of the bag. It holds a lot of stuff (we had a foldable stroller and 2 cabin bags and there was still enough room to put more stuff). Its very sturdy but we didnt encounter rain so I cant comment on the water proofing part yet.

However, we are now questioning if this was worth the money because it has permanently ruined the door seals on our car (2018 Audi Q5). The door seals dont prop back the way they come out of the factory and there is a visible dent on the seal. Looking up on the Audi website, its clearly mentioned that these door seals cant be re-installed. So basically once you have prop’ed it to attach the hooks, thats it, that door seal is done. You can leave it as is and not many people will notice it but if I go to sell my car tomorrow, they will deifnitely notice it and price the car accordingly.

Replacing the door seals on my car is ~$200/door. Add labor and this is almost $1K in additional costs that none of the reviews here are mentioning.

So I would highly recommend that folks first check how the door seal on their car behaves once its prop’ed. For folks who have racks.. this is a great item. For cars without the racks… move ahead with caution.

This product is worth every penny! I drive a 2021 Kia Sorento with flush rails and I don’t have any crossbars. We used the door jam method to secure the bag and all the straps made it extra secure. I was nervous but our 7 hour round trip was a breeze. We didn’t run into any rain but I have no doubt the rainproof would’ve worked wonderfully. The orange Velcro that keeps the straps from flapping everywhere worked great even with 70+ mph traveling. Easy installation and easy pack up! All around great product. I never review products but I read them diligently I had to review this!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDrove it 3,000 miles from Washington to North Carolina and it held up beautifully!
We bought this for our cross-country move that we did in April 2022. We loaded it up with boxes and other things that didn’t fit in the car with our 2 dogs, all of their supplies, and our own suitcases. It was a total lifesaver for us because we were able to bring things like exercise equipment and extra clothes that we would otherwise have had to leave in storage for another 6 months.

We drove through pretty much all terrain and weather you can find in this country – heavy snow and hail storms in the mountains of Washington and Colorado, dust storms in the desserts of Utah, strong winds in the plains of Kansas, and torrential rain and storms in the Piedmont of North Carolina. This thing got hit with everything you could possibly throw at it! Everything inside stayed dry and remained exactly as how we packed it. I drove pretty quickly too, averaging about 75-80 on the long stretches of highway. It remained 100% secure on our roof through the entire trip, even with really strong winds we encountered.

I highly recommend it if you’re looking for something that installs quickly, packs small, and is extremely durable!

We used this bag for a short trip (about 4 hours one way) and it worked well. I can't vouch for its water resistance as it did not rain at all during the times we were on the road. I wrapped my cargo in garbage bags just in case. We used it on a 2016 KIA Soul and used the hooks that attach to the door frame under the rubber weather seals. Install was very easy. It secured very nicely and the bag did not shift at all while on the road. As expected, gas mileage did suffer. We normally get around 34-35 MPG on the highway and the extra wind resistance from the bag knocked it down to between 25-26 MPG. However, it really does add a ton of cargo space and so far, I'm pleased with the purchase. I do wish the company provided an instructional video on how to fold it back up to fit in the storage bag (I always struggle with this when trying to fold tents, etc.). I did find a video that said to "pay attention to how it's folded when first removing from bag," but I, like I'm sure most people, didn't do that. I eventually stuffed it back in the bag, but it took some doing 😆

    Cross-country Road Trip Success!
Bought this specifically for a move across country from Florida to Washington state. Five days, multiple rain storms, dust storms, and various temperatures and this bag made it the whole way without a single snag and everything inside was still dry.

Set up was easy, it held more than we expected, and it fit nicely in the cargo rack atop our Subaru Impreza.

Can’t say enough good things about this rooftop storage bag. I would highly recommend to anyone who needs some additional storage for their road trip.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWent 4000 miles with no issues
Bought this 2 days before moving from Maryland to Washington state, went a southern route that made this thing see 50 miles shy of 4000 miles.

This bag saw rain storms, snow storms, hail storms and high winds. It crossed every climate from east of the Appalachians to the west of the Cascades and never budged an inch and everything inside stayed completely dry.

I had it packed full, so there was the usual road noise, I don’t have a roof rack so I had to use the window ties which I was leery about at first but they did great, anyone who is hesitant about using the window straps, don’t be, they’ll be fine. Driver side did drip in the car a little during heavy rain but the other windows were fine. The straps also wore through the clear coat a little due to wind vibrating the straps a little, but hey, 4000 miles, I really can’t complain.

I would highly recommend this bag to anyone looking to take a cross country trip, or any trip for that matter.

We bought the RoofPax before our cross-country move and it performed perfectly. We did not experience any bad weather during our three-day, 1,500-mile journey, so we cannot comment on how waterproof the carrier is. But it is wind proof. The fabric is super sturdy and looks brand new after 24 hours of drive time. Inside the carrier we inserted (4) identical plastic lidded totes and placed a furniture pad on the front edge and tops of the totes. We cinched down the straps to our roof rails (no roof rack) and it was a perfect fit. It took us about an hour to set up the carrier the first day and about 30 minutes the other days. Once we got to our destination, we got the RoofPax back in its bag along with a mat we bought for extra padding underneath. Great product, worth every penny!

I’ve now used this for 2 trips, and I love it. First install took a bit of figuring out, but after that, it’s a breeze to put on and take off. We did a 3 hour road trip and a 7 hour road trip, and it held up great both times, transporting approximately 175 pounds of luggage (2 small suitcases, 1 large suitcase, and a backpack). My 2018 Honda Pilot doesn’t have any type of roof rack or rails, so I figured I’d give this thing a try instead of forking out the hundreds of dollars it would cost to purchase and install them. I attached the hooks to our car underneath the weather seals, per the instructions, and it held up great. I only attached the straps on the sides, as front and back straps weren’t really necessary, and it held up great, didn’t move an inch, even when driving 75 mph through super windy weather. I haven’t used it through any wet/snowy weather yet, so that remains unknown, but so far, this product has been fantastic!

The unit seemed heavy duty and certainly had a lot of room. However, the metal slides that need to fit into the grooves around the rubber seal in the car roof (if you do not have roof racks) were too wide for the car. We didn't have the time to send it back and try to find something else, so we purchased tie-down straps and ran them across the entire car. That worked, but is definitely not optimal for the longterm. The 'fits most cars' assurance may be an overstatement - maybe making a list of those cars where it will fit would be a better approach.

I love it, I don’t know why I took so long to buy it. (Car: Nissan Rogue Sport | No roof rack)

I’m moving and have to do some traveling back and forth from VA to SC. I needed something that would allow us to take some items to the new house before the movers. I have two dogs that need to travel with me and this was perfect to give me space.
In the picture I set this up before we got 5 inches of snow. Drove 4 hours, snow and Waterproof. Only issue I have is that the salt solution is all over it now. I will try spraying it off. 3rd picture is from the second time I used it.

I used this on my 2016 Ford Escape withroof racks. The cargo bag is huge. I placed 6 bin size carryon suitcases. 2 laptop bags and 2 other medium shopping bags without issue and there was room to spare for more. The hooks worked great attaching to the doors. I used all 6 hook loops- 3 on each side. I was able to cinch the straps very tight and wrap following the instructions. We drove 10.5 hrs via the interstate at 75-80 mph. Stopping twice for gas and quick breaks. The Cargo bag never moved or slid. The straps never came loose or flapped in the wind. It didn’t rain so can’t speak to waterproof and contents protection. I highly recommend this product.

Have taken it on 4 trips so far, all over 5 hours, with some moderate rain. I have a roof rack so I have never used the door jam tie-downs, nor would I, because I think that's a silly way to transport luggage. But with the roof rack, this has kept everything dry, secure, and is pretty easy to install/remove. I'd say there are a couple things to remember: 1. Install it like they tell you, i.e., face the closed zippers to the rear of the vehicle. 2. Don't trust anything that says "Military Grade". I served in the military for 22 years. "Military Grade" should be synonymous with "cheaply made by the lowest bidder and will fail you if you don't treat it as delicately as you would 3-month premature, tiny baby infant born with a defective heart, liver, and kidney." In other words, if you don't go wrenching on the buckles like you're strapping yourself to a bucking bull at the world championships of rodeo, it's going to do it's job. Also, it helps if you don't load it with a bunch of hard-shelled suitcases that exceed natural dimensions of the carrier. A rhetorical question to illustrate; Would it be easier to zip up office furniture in an empty bean bag or a bunch of stuffed animals? Should be common sense, but the zipper on this thing is supposed to be waterproof. It's not going to like it if you're trying to stretch "military grade" material like a pair of blue jeans over your disgusting holiday belly. Know what I mean? Anyway, treat it like the delicate communist product it is, and it you will likely believe it to be worth your money. Fin.

Love this bag. It’s massive. I could fit at least 5 of me inside and zip it up. Amazing. The hooks held on perfectly with no noticeable damage to my weather seals. I read other reviews saying to put the straps through the handles to reduce noise and it worked like a charm. Never heard the bag. Drive through a rain storm in New Mexico and it rained overnight. Nothing inside ever got wet. Drove over 2,000 up to 80 mph average 75 mph. Checked it daily and only one strap would need to be tightened a little or something small. Just beware it’s like driving with a giant wind sail on your roof. Avoid being next to semis hahaha. Over all drive from Michigan to California with it full and it’s still in perfect condition along with everything I put inside of it.
Update: I have since driven back from California to Michigan and drove through snow. Nothing was damaged. Again worked perfectly. Couldn’t hear it. And the wind sail thing isn’t as bad as I made it sound in the first one haha. It just makes you feel a little top heavy. Overall amazing carrier. Can’t wait to use it agai

    This item works great!
Vehicle: 2002 Ford Escape w/roof rack cross bars.

I started a Teppanyaki Catering business and needed to get creative with storage for our 2002 Ford Escape. I saw this product and thought I’d give it a try despite some of the bad reviews.
It was easy to setup on top of the vehicle. I’ve used it twice. The first time It fit (2) 6 foot folding tables and (2) 8 foot folding tables with room to spare. I drove from Palm Desert CA to Huntington Beach CA with no problems. The bag was extremely secured to the vehicle. Leaving the Coachella Valley on the I-10 is really windy, but the bag was totally fine. The second time was local. I put (1) 6′ table, (2) 8′ tables, (1) 5′ table and (4) folding chairs. I still had room to spare!
I’m happy with this product and I would recommend it.
I haven’t experienced rain with it yet. When I do, I’ll update the review.
    Hope this helps.

I used this product to help me move from NY to FL, putting it on top of my Ford Escape. The product arrived promptly in perfect condition, though it was a little harder for me to deal with because I had to load it using a ladder. That being said, it held a ton of stuff! I put in my big cartons first then kept packing small stuff around them. I probably could have put more in than I did but I was afraid of overloading my car. I also bought a anti slip mat for the roof and that worked well. The loaded bag didn't move a bit and there was no damage to my roof. I affixed the straps to the Escape's side rails only and again, no issues. No straps flying or fraying. I didn't have any adverse car handling issues either. I think my gas mileage was quite a bit lower but overall, it was still a lot cheaper than renting a trailer. This was a good buy and I would definitely use it again.

I used this to move from Nevada to Texas. I got this one because it was larger than most other bags that I found. I was concerned that it might dent my roof/sunroof or scrape the paint where the hooks were placed, but everything worked out great and there was no damage at all! (It may not be the smartest idea to use this on a car with a sunroof, but I was pretty desperate.) I checked the straps each day of the drive, and everything stayed tight and in place. I love the velcro pieces that keep the straps from flapping around. The lock was great for peace of mind while driving, but someone still would have been able to cut the bag open/off when we stopped at hotels if they wanted to. It worked great for me! Now it's covered in bug guts and taking up storage space.

After reading a lot of the reviews and mixed reviews I went with this product. I can say I was NOT disappointed. We traveled form MI to TN about an 8 hour drive. Fuel mileage did drop on my Jeep Cherokee about 3-4MPG, but once you hit south KY it gets hilly so all and all not a bad a drop. We then drive back to MI in the tail end of Ida. Not a drop of water entered the roof bag. I would feel confident driving in rain for 8 hours with this bag. In addition this bag has 4 additional loops on the front 1/3 of the bag and 4 additional loops on the back 1/3. This is GREAT if you want to run a secondary stap for extra security. I was able to store 2 med and 1 small pieces of luggage with room to spare, I made sure I keep the load to under 160lb. I would recommend this back to friends and family.

This product was exactly what i needed and did an amazing job. it lived up to and exceeded all of its expectations. i drove from buffalo, NY to pensacola, FL (17 hrs and about 1,100 miles) with stops in cincinnati, nashville, and montgomery. we hit some rain from the previous tropical storm and everything inside stayed nice and dry. i wrapped everything in garbage bags in case the cargo wasn’t waterproof but even those didn’t get wet. the straps held up great and stayed nice and tight. the whole cargo was very full and stayed secure the entire trip. you can definitely fit a lot in here. i HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone doing some traveling - it definitely cleared up a lot of space in my car. for reference, i have a Chevy Trax with no roof rack and it just hooks right into the doors which was perfect for me. perfect size, shape, and durability.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWeatherproof and Solid as a Rock
First, I rarely write Amazon reviews. I did this review because travel for moving or vacation should be as stress free as possible. I can say from my experience that you can trust this product. I looked at many others before I purchased this one and do not regret spending a bit more money than some of the other options.

I rented an SUV for a fishing trip in northern Minnesota and knew I would need more room for my gear. Not knowing which SUV the rental company would provide me until I picked it up, I was worried about how I could secure the RoofPax. By pure chance, this SUV had roof racks and worked perfectly with this bag.

Second, I drove about 1200 miles through moderate rain at times. The carrier was bone dry when I opened it up at the destinations. Also, when the straps are secured properly, there is no movement or wind noise from the carrier.

Finally, here are my thoughts to help you have a good experience with this product.

    1. WIND GUSTS – Not surprisingly, with the carrier fully packed you will notice a moderate amount of effect from wind gusts hitting the vehicle when you drive. So, take that into consideration when you first start driving with it. Nothing severe, but the carrier in wind does affect the handling of the vehicle.

    2. KNOW YOUR VEHICLE – You need to know how you are intending to strap the carrier down. In my case, I was intending to use the 6 straps and pull down the door seals to attach the bag with the hooks, but I could not pull down the door seals. I’ve seen so many videos from many products about simply pulling down the door seals and using the hooks, but I could not budge them on the rental. I looked at some YouTube videos, and often you have to remove interior molding on cars to get the door seals to move. Thankfully, in this car, I had a roof rack. So, before you go, make sure you can pull down the door seals, have roof racks or accept the fact that you will need an alternative method to strap it securely.

    3. PACKING – Be sure to have the closing zipper toward the BACK of the vehicle and the non-zipper part toward the front. Don’t strap down any straps until you have packed the RoofPax. If you try to strap it down first, then putting things into the carrier is impossible. Pack the largest items first and then put smaller things in to fill up the space. The carrier actually has a foam layer on the bottom to absorb contact with your vehicle. The carrier is heavy duty canvas but don’t place sharp objects on the edges because sharp objects will obviously tear the fabric over time when driving.

    4. SECURING – The fastening options with this carrier are excellent. Even if i could not use door seals or roof racks, the carrier has enough webbing options for an alternative option. A lot of carriers have no such options. Once it’s packed, pull the zippers closed to the back (which is challenging because they are heavy duty and waterproof), and pull down the flaps around the top of the carrier. Now, unloosen the straps and begin to strap them down. I had read reviews wherein people described the webbing pulling away from the carrier over time, but in my experience, I think those people tightened the straps too radically (or maybe they had a defective product). Once you have the strap secured, fold up the extra strap webbing and fold the webbing into the orange Velcro strap to keep the webbing from whipping into the wind during the drive. Secure the straps so they don’t move, but don’t pull them so tight that they damage the carrier.

FINAL THOUGHT: After 50 miles on the road with a rental car and an untested fabric carrier, I began to relax and never thought about the RoofPax again during my trip. Highly recommended.

    Love this thing
I got this for our family vacations, as I was tired of having all our stuff packed in the back of our SUV I could never see out the back. This was so easy to put up on the roof, secured firmly and didn’t make a sound for our entire 4 hour trip. I packed the night before and left it on the roof in the driving rain and everything was completely dry.

On our return trip my daughter left something she needed in a bag that I had packed up top and I was able to loosen it up, flip the entire thing 180 degrees, open it, find what I needed and then strapped it back up in about 5-10 minutes in a gas station. My friend who has a hard top storage unit can’t get anything once it’s up there without a big production.

It fits a lot of stuff and so super easy to use. Best purchase of the summer for this family of 4.

A great alternative to a hard case
I was very satisfied with this purchase and it was definitely worth the money and less expensive than a hard Thule case or something else.

    Highlights:
-Survived the trip from Portland, Oregon to Santa Barbara, California and back up
-Was easy to load and unload, and tie-down with the straps included (we did not use the included door seal straps because I did have bars on my roof)
-As far as we can tell was weather-resistant but we didn’t go through much rain
-Fit two storage bins, four camping chairs, three duffles, and some random items

    Non-highlights:
-The zipper puller came off (not the slider and nothing integral to the zipper, just the puller) and while pliers got it back on, we couldn’t get it to stay. If you’re packing this thing to the brim, be gentle with the zipper!
-There were no cautionary instructions, such as limit car speed etc. which made us a little uneasy/worried until we just had to try it out ourselves
-The straps do become sorta loose with a ~3 hour drive, I recommend tightening the straps when you pull over to gas up!

Overall it was a great purchase and I’m happy I didn’t spend the thousands of dollars to get crossbars and a hard-shell storage bin.

Our family of 4 took our first long road trip for vacation. Teenage boys needed the space inside our mid size suv to be comfortable, (and quieter), so we had crossbars installed on our GMC terrain, thinking if all else failed, we could rent a cargo container. I must have read several hundred reviews on both soft/hard shelled containers. We were going away for a week so we needed plenty of room for luggage and of course, the chance of driving through rain/storms had to be considered. We immediately steered away from the hard shells due to the significant difference in price and the fact that we won't use it more than 2-3 times a year. Ordered this based on all of the above. I have to say, if we had to do it all over, we'd have gladly paid more for it. We ended up driving through over 10 hours of consistent and TORRENTIAL downpour! We were concerned during quick stops as the outside seemed soaked, however... Everything inside was completely dry. I should mention though that the rails/crossbars allowed us to strap it very tightly in a way that it sat up, off the top of the car. I can't say how it works strapping through the doors, but if you do this and might drive through rain, I would recommend using something in the bottom of bag that could get damp. Lifting up everything else half an inch or so, just in case. Also STRONGLY recommend that you practice loading the bag on the ground to get a good idea of how you want to arrange things. Another plus for us is that while not in use, this giant bag folds up very nicely into the bag it comes with. Using very little space in storage. Again, we WERE SO impressed with the quality of this product. Just be sure to follow the instructions on how to pack it precisely. The only downfall is really an inevitable one... My husband, who stands over 6 ft tall, was drenched in sweat and exhausted each time he got up there to load/unload. There seems to be an art to loading it just right, but he had it figured out by the 2nd time. (thanks to the practice I mentioned) Lots of straps though and it's work, but WELL worth it!

    Exceeded Expectations
We got a new Toyota Highlander and my wife wanted to do a road trip to Colorado before the kids went back to school. This trip was conceived in my wife’s brain less than 2 weeks before she wanted to leave. We were taking 2 kids and 2 dogs to Colorado and I did not even have roof racks on the Highlander yet.

I looked at other carrier options but due to COVID, it seemed like every other option was a 2 month delivery wait. I found this roof carrier and it had some mixed reviews but had Prime delivery. It was affordable and arrived 2 days after purchase.

Instructions were easy and even found videos online to demonstrate how to anchor carrier to the inside of door frames (again, I did not have roof racks yet). We stuffed this sucker to the max and it did not move and drove through several heavy downpours in and out of Colorado (15 hours each way) and all of our stuff remained bone dry. We drove back in humid weather so hit a lot of bugs so front of carrier had a lot of crushed bugs on it and I was even able to spray off with hose, let dry and it was clean and good to go for next trip.

Since the product is fabric I do no know how long it will hold up but for the trip we took, very good product especially for the price. 2 thumbs way up and thank you!

Took the family camping and I have a 4 door sedan which limits space to pack considerably. I brought this instead of buying racks, bars and paying for the install, which would leave me still having to buy a bag. This bag was phenomenal! The round-trip drive was around 6 hours and never did I feel the bag wasn't secure enough. It fit 7 bookbags, 2 carryone suitcases, a 2 burner Coleman propane burner, 3 XL vacuum bags filled with comforters and other smaller items that I fit in corners plus stuff I know I'm forgetting. The zipper is extremely durable and the cargo straps are very tough. Install took 5 minutes and no scratches on the roof. It rained for about 12 straight hours including a thunder storm I haven't experienced while camping and everything in the bag was bone dry! Someone did make a mistake by leaving it open when it rained later on (it was me) but once I realized it, I dryed up the mess in a few minutes with paper towels. I'd recommend this for anyone regardless of the car you have. I wound up needing another person's car to fit the food we were bringing but this bag was a life saver and I can not wait to use it agai

Used it on our vacation to Florida from Ohio with all 4 kids inside and 3rd row up there just isn't enough room for all the luggage and a stroller and so on. Easy to pack and load on roof we probably had 200lbs inside there so little heavy to put on roof but not products fault. Held up great kept everything dry stayed connected by the 4 points without ever coming loose. Was really nervous to put something like this on top the roof with just 4 hooks holding it in the door area but worked great even with us having the weight in there we did! Easily folded up and put back into the bag and stored inside suv hideaway and doesn't take up much space. Will be using again on the next trip very happy with it. Only con I can think of is the wind drag you definitely know it's up there in a windy area but adding anything up there will really do that honestly.

Purchased the Roofpax carrier for additional room during relocation from NJ to Florida. After many miles and various weather situations it held up extremely well with no issues. After a year and a half with no usage we again set it up for a trip back up north. Worked just as well but on the return back to Florida noticed some fraying of material inside and unfortunately developed two tears in the outside material. Upon returning to Florida I contacted customer service and within 10 hours received an email from Donna at RoofPax who immediately processed a new replacement under their warranty policy. I have never received such response and support as I have from Donna and Roofpax. They 1000% stand by their product. Thank you! I would recommend this product highly

The Roofpax bag was better than I expected. I fit everything in the 19 cu.ft. bag and had room left over. The videos were helpful. Everything stayed dry through the 30 minute downpour. The thick bottom didn't let the cargo dent the roof. I was able to repack it to fit the carrier. I did not need a separate roof cover, but I did wash and wax the car before using it so it wouldn't scratch the paint if it shifted. The bag fit between the factory roof rails and straps held onto the rails on my 2020 Trax. The clips did not fit under the rails in the front as the roof tapers, but the straps are long enough to reach the wider section in the back. I did not need the door frame hooks - nice to have if I change cars. The straps didn't shift while in transit even during hard stops. No vibration from the straps because the Velcro strap holders, but I noticed that the car handles differently from the wind hitting it and the elevated center of gravity. I would not rely on the included lock to prevent overnight theft as it is too small and TSA keys are too easy to buy. I would suggest storing it with silicone dry packs to prevent mildew from any trapped moisture - those are not included, but easy to find.

    Just what we needed
I ordered this for our family vacation. We drive from Maine to Myrtle Beach every year and I was sick of our car (Ford Explorer) being too packed with all of our stuff. We didn’t use it on the way down, but when it was time to leave we quickly realized we may have gone a bit overboard with the shopping. It took us about 20 minutes to figure out how to get the back all secured on the roof of the car. We used the clips for the doors. Being a shorter (5’4″) person, I did have to open all of the doors and do some climbing to make sure the bag was in the proper position. We didn’t put ALL of our stuff in the RoofPax but we did put in 3 suitcases and a giant reusable bag with random purchases in. The bag did not move from the position we put it in. The straps were secured with the velcro wraps and never moved. We did have one strap that seemed to loosen a little bit throughout the 16 hour drive, but it wasn’t loose by any means. We drove through TORRENTIAL rains and very heavy winds for a solid 2 hours and then again with torrential rains again for another 6 hours. When we finally got home it was too late to worry about the luggage so we left it on the car overnight through, you guessed it, torrential rain. Upon opening the bag the following afternoon everything was 100% completely dry!

My husband was skeptical about the RoofPax. He kept thinking it would fly off the roof or be completely water logged. He was wrong (surprise!!) We did have the zippers facing toward the back of the car and the zipper flap covering the zipper so I’m sure that had something to do with the waterproofing. We were driving between 60-80mph the entire trip and didn’t notice much in the way of noise or MPG dropping due to resistance.

Overall the RoofPax does exactly what it claims to do, it’s waterproof and frees up space in your car. We will definitely be using this for future trips and recommend it to friends and family.

Buy This! You won't regret it!!!
I have now used this twice on the roof of my Prius (fastens to the frame of the car easily and securely). First one was a move from Kansas to Florida and recently a shorter move in Florida. This thing is WONDERFUL!!!! Truly holds a huge amount of stuff–160lbs–is easy to use and easy to load and unload. Please do bear in mind that it is water resistant and NOT waterproof and you’ll be just fine. I used a combination of large trash bags and vacuum sealed plastic bags. This also made it easier to load and unload.
    Pro tips:
1.Using a small step latter will make loading and unloading MUCH easier–it’s worth taking one along with you
2.You definitely want the ROOF CARGO BAG PROTECTIVE MAT to use under this to keep it firmly in place and prevent scratching your roof.
3.WATCH THE VIDEO ON HOW TO USE THE ROOFPAX!!!! It’s super easy once you’ve done it…but there were things I didn’t know to do til I watched the video.

We moved from Illinois to Florida two months ago and needed a little extra storage for the road trip so we bought this based on the good reviews. It lived up to the great reviews! My husband was able to install the storage unit on top of our mid-size SUV with a small amount of help from me. He was able to open it and remove and replace luggage each night and adjust the straps with ease. The straps velcro to themselves so there are no loose straps flapping in the wind nor do they vibrate in the wind making any loud noise. It’s really very quiet. It always felt sturdy and we never felt like it was in any risk of coming loose. It also didn’t feel like it created too much drag - it didn’t slow us down. We highly recommend this product. Thanks!

I love this bag so much I need to shorten my review! Me: 5' 4", 60 year old disabled female who travels between Tucson and Detroit every summer. I bought a new RAV4 hybrid and didn't want to damage my car with putting anything directly on the roof with a sunroof so I also ordered a luggage rack along with the Roof Pax bag. I already had factory installed roof rails so I didn't need to buy those. Both arrived quickly and without damage and no missing parts. Very easy install for both items. I opened the bag and did a trial run for packing it on my living room floor. This helped me a great deal for time. I installed both items myself very easy. I am short, so I needed a ladder to haul everything up and overhead. There's the time consuming thing. Moving the ladder around the car to load and tie down by yourself takes time. Get some help and it'll go much faster. My neighbor helped me unload when I arrived in Michigan and only took 10 minutes to unload. Now, the review. PROS: Everything! They left no stone unturned. The bag looked and felt substantial. The outer layer felt like it would hold up under my driving conditions and I was impressed right out of the box. The inner layer has some kind of rubberized coating for waterproofing. The zipper is concealed under a flap that has velco to hold it down. It came with a small lock so you can lock lock the 2 zippers together for security. It has straps all the way around to tie it down to your car. The straps have a velco piece attached at the end so you can secure the loose ends so they don't flap in the breeze. It came inside a storage bag with clips if you want to attach this bag through your windows without using a roof rack. The only CON to this so far is, how am I ever going to fold this thing back down into a storage bag? I haven't tried it yet but it doesn't matter as I have a garage. My testing of the bag: This bag took 3 days of driving in over 100 degree temps and a about 30 minutes of rain in Missouri. I drove the speed limit sometimes. Usually I'm the 10 mph over the speed limit driver on the freeway. I was pretty much 75-80 mph fully loaded with this bag though. I arrived without incident to the bag in Michigan in time for father's day. No visible damage to the bag, or to the car. My neighbor helped my unload and take the bag off in 10 minutes. No water made it through the bag and all my items were no worse for the wear. I'll return to Tucson in October. If something goes awry, I'll update this review. Here's my advice. Read other people's reviews and see what may have went wrong. Most negative comments about about roof bags of any make came from people tying these things down to their windows and having the bags rest ON THE ROOF. High winds and drag on these bags tells me they won't hold up to this abuse. Even with the bag loaded properly as per Roof Pax instruction, the drag on the luggage kills gas mileage. The RAV4 hybrid gets about 45mpg unloaded. Not on this trip I assure you. Load the roof bag so you have no hard pieces of suitcases like wheels facing the sides and front of the bag where winds at these speeds will damage anything. I don't advise any bag directly on the roof unless it's an emergency move on a short trip. As much as I spent for my car, I wanted NO damage to it. Use a luggage rack and secure the straps to that instead of your windows. I worried about the plastic clips on the straps holding up, but they did just fine. The Roof Pax is a 5 star, 2 thumbs up from me. I recommend this item under the conditions I stated. I would buy this again.

We ordered this because we suddenly needed more space inside our SUV than we actually had. So before the first camping trip of 2021, we put the RoofPax atop our RAV4 and filled it with several camp chairs, a suitcase, several pillows and other miscellaneous gear. There was plenty of room to spare. (I should mention that the zipper was a little challenging but got easier with use.) The carrier attached easily to the side rails on our SUV's roof. I'm the nervous type, so I was a little apprehensive about how secure it was going to be. It slid backward a few inches during the drive to the campground, but basically stayed where I put it. I've since ordered a mat to go underneath it which should help keep it absolutely in place. The best part — I don't have to find a place in my garage to store a hard-sided carrier. I folded the RoofPax twice and stuck it on a shelf. Couldn't be easier. Highly recommended!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe bought this for my tiny, Hyundai accent to go on an impromptu camping trip. With the trunk being just big enough for an ice chest, we needed all the space we could muster. This rack was far taller and heavy duty than I imagined. I was pleasantly surprised when I felt how thick the material truly was durable the zippers felt. It's not stretchy but had plenty of room for the lengthy lost of camping chairs, sleeping bags, duffels, both tents and more! It even rained on us while making the trip and not a single drop entered the zipped interior. Highly recommended on all accounts. One thing to mention is it doesn't come with the pad to put between the car and the bag. We used yoga mats for a cushioned barrier and to provide a more tacky surface for the rack to be held by. Worked beautifully and no damage to my car or paint.

Nice quality, held up really well!
I was worried after reading reviews of other roof bags, and how they held up (or did not hold up). But I found this to be a great addition to our trip! I tied it down with a couple of extra heavy duty straps just in case, but don’t think it needed it. The setup was easy and straight forward, the straps are strong, and material was good. After driving 3 hours at 80mph and during high winds, the bag help up nicely – no rips or tears, no visible damage at all! I only noticed slight wind noise on the trip back, when it was fuller, but not bad at all.

I didn’t drive while raining, so I cannot attest to the weatherproofing. But make sure the closed side of the bag faces forward, otherwise, the the wind might blow the flaps up that hide the zipper. It came with a mat to protect the roof and stop the bag from slipping. I fastened the bag to the side rails on my minivan after loading it up, and it was good to go! I tightened the straps after the first 10 or so highway miles, and it was snug the whole trip.

Overall, I was very satisfied with this bag, and loved the extra room it gave us for our trip!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI was able to fit more than I expected in it, freed up a lot of space inside the car. That being said, it's not quiet, since it's not aerodynamic. I happened to have a very windy few days driving with this thing, but even when it wasn't windy, it was loud, and slowed down the car significantly, so just be prepared for that. It says it fits on small cars, but you have to get creative to make it fit for a coupe. I thought the instructions on it weren't detailed enough. They tell you how to put the hooks on the car, but when it comes to all the straps, and making it fit for a coupe, you're on your own. It took a while to figure that part out. Also, it does shift a little bit while driving, it slides to the back, but no worries, it's durable and won't fall off. I did drive in heavy rain in it, and I can confirm that it's waterproof. In summery, this thing is a life saver when you move, especially when it's long distance move.

I was in sort of a panic, trying to finalize a move and needing more room in my Dodge Grand Caravan. I was looking for a one time solution and didn't want to buy one of the hard shell car top carriers and needed it the next day. When it arrived I at first thought I had just made a big mistake. It came folded up in a relatively small package. But, I opened it up and it had all these straps that didn't instill a lot of confidence. So, I started reading the instructions. On the Grand caravan, the rails go side to side and that was not one of the options in the instructions. But, I thought, why not? so I tossed it up there and began trying to secure it to the top. The package contains 6 metal hooks which are supposed to go at the upper door frame but I found they worked really well on the side rails that were bolted to the roof and the end straps worked well on the side to side rails. I loaded it with boxes and tightened the straps and drove the van about 1600 miles as high as 85 with no issues. It stayed up there for about 1 week while waiting to close on my new house. Rained only once but I have no doubts it would have shed rain like a duck. The only real issue for me is that the length of the device is longer than the distance between my side to side rails so I couldn't get in as much as other people might. Now, if someone could send me a folding diagram so I could get it back in the case, it would be perfect. ;o)

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got this bag for my Tundra which does not have a roof rack, it is everything I hoped for and a bit more. The hooks to secure the the bag were easy to install under the door weather stripping. The bag is as advertised ,well made and the strapping thought out (the Velcro to wrap the loose ends of the straps is a great add). Because working on the roof is hard to do (and can be a bit dangerous) my boys and I loaded the bag in the house and using the heavy duty handles (4), carried it out, centered it on the cab roof and secured it, easy pizzy. We are 1/2 tent campers and 1/2 glampers, we like to be prepared, warm and really enjoy camping so there is not much we do not bring. We just went to Zion, where it is still down in the 20’s at night and you never know about spring weather so extra sleeping bags and tarps were brought just in case. We put 8 sleeping bags, extra blankets, pillows, heavy coats and a some of our clothing bags up top, it was great having such a large, covered and secured rectangle for all those items (the extra large bag really holds a lot). I am very pleased with my purchase and if you purchase this bag for similar use, you will be too.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat cargo bag and great customer service from RoofPax
I originally purchased the larger size, 19 cu. ft, bag around a year ago, and I use it in conjunction with a rooftop cargo basket. However, I have no doubt that the bag would work great even without side rails (using the included door clips). The construction of the bag is really solid and feels like it should last for many years, and many adventures. Both the bag material and the zippers feel very heavy duty. While I have not yet had to endure serious rain or snow, the bag has performed great with the little bit of rain I have experienced, keeping everything inside bone dry.

On the 2nd trip with the bag, we had a small mishap that caused a gash in the material on the top part of the bag. I contacted RoofPax, and they almost immediately responded to ensure me that everything would be taken care of under the warranty. I ordered a replacement, and within a few days was fully reimbursed. No questions asked, no hassle whatsoever. Pretty incredible customer service!

This is a really solid product backed up by great customer service.

    Strog, sturdy and spacious.
We bought this bag for a Spring Break return trip from Santa Fe NM to Tucson AZ, about 1,200 total mileage. The bag fitted easily onto our 2006 Lexus 400rh and we were able to store a large amount of bags inside it. The straps were secure and tight on the roof rack, and the whole thing was reliable and trouble free for the journey. I would recommend tightening the straps each time there is a stop for fuel or exercise. The zips are a little tough to pull when the bag is full, but better too tough than too weak. Overall this is a very good quality purchase that we will use many times in the coming years.
UPDATE —3 months after our road trip to Tucson, there was a minor tear in the bag after I’d squeezed in my childrens bikes(one of the handlebars got caught in the fabric). The Customer Service dept dealt with it in an amazingly quick amount of time, and sent me out a brand new bag.
    Excellent. 5 stars. Much appreciated!!

Worked pretty well still some cons
This cargo worked really well for what we needed. We were able to fit our carryon luggage (big luggage also fit we just used carry ons). We had pillows, toys, even my son laptop which my husband mistakenly placed in the cargo (yikes!) and it all arrived week from MD to FL. 14hour drive between 70-80 miles pero hr. We hit windy hard rain, frozen rain, snow, and terrible fog and it made it to its destinations.

Now… some water did get in but only in a little spot we suspect perhaps with the wind the zipper flap allowed some to come in. But nothing terrible. Thankfully we pack our clothes in plastic ziplocks so there were just a few drops and everything was good. On our way back we hit major rain. We could barely see the road. One of our bags got really wet and we suspect it was that.

We will totally use it again, just mindful of what we put and what weather we may hit.

Another thing is that the attachments from the roof to door did slightly scratch our paint although it’s fabric. Not sure if from the pulling as we drive but it slightly damaged our paint. Next time I will probably wrap it around a nonscratch materia or something. To make sure that does not happen again. Again we will probably use again just maybe not for such a long drive.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPerformed beyond expectation!
I cannot say enough good things about this product. We really put this product to the test, driving over 2,100 miles with a fully packed bag on the roof through snow, sleet, and torrential rain almost the entire trip and not a single drop penetrated the bag. The bag did not move an inch at any point during the trip — all straps, stitching, and buckles remained fully secured. Installation is very simple and pretty quick once you do it the first time (our car does not have a rack or rails). Each time we stopped for a night at a hotel I would fully empty the cargo bag and take it off the roof for the night. Reinstalling it the next day was quick and easy (I left the door fasteners in place overnight).

I was a bit skeptical buying this bag because there are a few negative reviews, but after look at many bags on Amazon, this one still had the best feedback overall. I am so glad I went with this bag. Could not be happier. Amazing product, amazing value.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOnly two problems I experienced with this...
It worked great for my move across the country. I only had 2 complaints… first, when I unpacked this product, the description pictures show that I was supposed to get 2 extra tabs for attaching to the car. I only got 6 total (instead of 8). 2nd, there was a little bit of water from the rain I drove through inside the carrier when I unloaded the carrier. It was a good thing I put my belongings in plastic totes rather than cardboard boxes. I request the company send me the 2 missing tabs as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.
If the company sends me the 2 extra tabs that should have been included in my order, I will update this review. As for the water in the carrier… it wasn’t a lot and won’t be a problem if the user uses plastic bags or totes on the bottom.

    Affordable solution in a pinch
So, I bought this on Prime day to move from Wisconsin to California a couple weeks ago in my little 4-door Kia. From the moment I left this thing was put to the test. That night I ran into sleet, snow, and torrential downpour through the Midwest. This thing is not waterproof, and hardly water resistant. Fortunately, I packed everything that went into the RoofPax in waterproof vacuum bags!
I bought the grip mat along with the extra hooks; thinking the more snug the better. The grip mat isn’t even large enough for the RoofPax, first of all lol. The whole thing bunched up underneath…That damn thing budged, but gripped tight to my car despite everything! I think I put on top of my car facing the wrong way…It isn’t completely clear what way is the front or back? Second, the extra hooks were pointless; only because there was really no way to utilize them.
Ultimately, I knew I was rolling the dice buying this, but I was trying to move on a fixed income for a family emergency. It was better than nothing, and I’m glad I bought it!
I would use it again, but buy a bigger grip mat, it’s just shelf liner.

    As Advertised!
This cargo bag survived 2800+ mi of road trip over 10 days through 13 States through wind and rain.

We have a roof rack on our Buick Enclave but still needed to use the door hook straps to secure the sides if the bag because the long rails were designed to secure flush to the roof with no underneath opening. The front and back of the bag were secured tightly to the cross beams of the rack. I ensured the back of the bag rested on the rear cross beam, while the front of the bag rested just behind the front crossbeam. This allowed for some semblance of an aerodynamic shape to reduce wind resistance.

simply tightened the straps when necessary at every stop we made for maximum peace of mind. Very minor road noise but nothing distracting by any means. The only time the noise ramped up was during 40 mph crosswinds in MO where I had to pull over and tighten the side straps (which I forgot to do at the previous stop). Afterwards, the noise returned to its negligible level. I checked for moisture inside the bag at the halfway point of our trip and at our destination, and there was none to be found. The only thing I could’ve done better was not install it backwards on my roof!

When I got home I simply folded it up and pack it back on the carrying bag it shipped in. I highly recommed this product!

This thing is awesome. My wife and I have 2 kids under 2 and we always travel with a TON of stuff mostly because we want them to sleep well. We were heading on a road trip and considered renting a larger vehicle (we have a Subaru Outback) but instead opted to just buy one of these which was cheaper than renting a van. Not only was it super easy to install (it fits particularly well on our 2018 outback shown in the picture) but worked perfectly. I was worried about how safe/secure it would be but the design is impeccable and really allows you to fit A LOT of stuff. We easily fit one jumbo suitcase, huge baby gate, pack & play, pack & play mattress, and another zip up bag. I was able to install it myself and from start to finish with loading all that up took maybe 10-15 minutes. With 2 people you could cut that down to 5 minutes easy. Highly highly recommended and we will be telling all our friends to consider this model as it is remarkably cheap for the quality you get. Also it does fold back up into the bag easily and protected our roof from any scrapes.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGood Produc
This works as advertised. It arrives on time. I was concerned that it would not fit my 2013 Jeep Wrangler without a rack. I contacted the company and they immediately got back to me. While not necessarily helpful they were certainly responsive.

After getting the roof bag to attach to the freedom top, I was able to drive about 525 miles on the eastern slope of the Sierras plus back across the state of California to the San Francisco Bay Area. Close to 100 of those miles were off road.

We had very heavy rain while the bag was on top of the Jeep zipped up but not loaded at the time. There was some water in the bag the next morning but given it wasn’t loaded it’s hard to know how much was user error.

Overall, I highly recommend this as an option. It certainly saved us as it fit my entire family of five’s sleeping bags, tents, and clothing, etc. And it left room in the back of the Jeep for other essentials.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersMay 2020 I drove from Portland Oregon to Boston Massachusetts and it was perfect!!! It did scratch up my roof a little where the straps rubbed up against the car but that easily could have been avoided if I put something down first like a padded non-slip pad that they sell separately. I didn’t have any issues at all what-so-ever! I have a Toyota Corolla 2018. I packed this carrier to the brim with almost no room to spare. I didn’t use any additional straps just what was provided. It looks really nice too. I will keep it for future use as well because it’s still in almost perfect condition except for all the dead bugs on the front I will need to scrub and hose off. The first couple days of my 4 day drive I was constantly checking on it putting my hand out the window looking in the rear view mirror. Every time I stopped to get gas I walked around and checked on every strap but by the whole 2nd half of my trip I was totally comfortable. I felt 100% safe and comfortable traveling with this on my car. I wish I didn’t worry so much in the beginning because I would have had a more pleasant drive the first couple days haha Very easy to put on and install. Very large and roomy. I wasn’t in and out of it and accessing stuff while I was traveling but I can easily say that wouldn’t have been hard at all. It rained really hard the day I went through Ohio and when I opened the carrier up the day I arrived to Boston it felt dry in there. A lot of stuff I had in plastic just incase it did leak but I didn’t need to worry about that either! 5 stars totally deserved!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Users100% would recommend this product and the company that stands behind it.
For 2+ years this roof bag worked great for us (large family who can NEVER fit all our stuff into the cargo area inside the vehicle). It made every trip easier, and because I wasn’t loading up the entire back of the vehicle and could actually see out the back, it was less stressful than any alternative. Completely waterproof and you can secure it with a lock.

When I had an issue with a buckle on the bag, I reached out to the support team. I thought they might suggest I purchase a new buckle or strap at best, or at worst I thought they might give me the run around. But to my very pleasant surprise, instead of being disappointed I was met with customer service beyond what I’d expected. They assisted me with expedited shipping of a BRAND NEW roof bag. It’s clear that this company wants to always provide a quality product and, if for whatever reason there’s an issue, it’s clear they do everything they can to make it right.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHeld up through severe Wind and Rain!
Oh My Goodness! This thing is amazing! We just drove from Utah to Florida then back (5,000) miles with this things strapped to the roof of our Camry! It held up so well. We went through hours of high winds of up to 55mph! We went through really severe rain storms. There were times we encountered both high wind and heavy rain! We kept saying there was no way it would make it. The thing didn’t budge! It held so much stuff in it too. We had 4 regular size totes in it and there was still some room around and in between for little things. They were full of heavy things and it held strong (so heavy it took my husband and myselfto hoist them up there. We were shocked. And when we got back home everything was dry and it was still raining while we unloaded! This price is great too! Easy to put on too!! There were no instructions but I didn’t need any since it was very easy!!

**Nothing bad to say about it…other than the flimsy lock they give you. It is cheap plastic and broke while trying to set a code… that was not a big deal to us, we just used a lock with a key we already had. And I am reviewing the carrier not the free lock it came with. Buy this!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHoly camel feces! This was the best decision i couldn't have made a better choice for our cross country move...with 3 kids we had to load up our SUV and it was bareable with this storage bag. Boy did we put this through the test. We went from sunny, rain, snow, heavy wind and a muddy road trip...i gotta say, it exceeded my expectations. It definitely went through different elements and it passed flawlessly. This bag also has two guides to run rope through as further fastening precautions. I thought is was going to be a noisy trip as well but after a few adjustments it was noiseless for the rest of the 2000 miles. One little thing tho is that i was having trouble strapping on the 2 extra clips that it comes with but i made it work. I must say that for what its worth it was a smart purchase. I am very satisfied with this product. Make sure wherever you park is safe from theft though because im sure someone can cut the fastening straps. I highly recommend this especially if you dont have a roof rack like us.

After finding out how difficult and costly having a hitch installed on my Subaru Forrester would be, I desperately began looking for ANY alternative and found RoofPax. I was skeptical and expected the worst, especially since it was only around 100 bucks. I also was a bit terrified hauling so much stuff on the roof of my car for a 3 day highway move from Chicago to the West Coast with hooks mounted to the frame...it gave me a recurring nightmare involving my stuff littered over a mile span of highway and the deaths of innocent drivers unlucky enough to be driving behind me. I am happy to report that none of that came to fruition. The product worked like a dream. It held 2 medium sized duffel bags, 2 medium suitcases, and a large suitcase (this was the large size RoofPax). WARNING: Please be sure that you have a vehicle that allows you to use the hooks prior to purchasing- watch the video! I was also able to cram winter coats in-between the bags (oh, Chicago, how I will miss your sub-zero temps!). You really cannot beat the price, efficiency, and durability of the RoofPax. After 3 days, it remained tightly fastened and did not even require re-securing. Only negative was that it was not fully water-proof, more water-resistant. After some snow and 2 days of rain, some moisture did get through. However, most of the material was in suitcases, so everything remained dry. I will take it as a big win, as this was by far the cheapest and best option I had. A very enthusiastic "two thumbs up" for RoofPax.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is such a great product our daughter and son in law we’re visiting for the holidays and of course were due to leave with way more than they arrived with, so they decided they would ship some of their belongings, it was going to work out quite pricey to do that so my husband was looking at alternatives for them, and he came across this great product. It arrived well packaged and in a timely manner. It has hooks and loops attached so that it can be hooked to the framework of the car, perfect when you don’t have the factory fitted roof rails on your vehicle. They were able to fit so much stuff in that thing, they got two suitcases, an instapot, tea kettle, hand mixer, a cardboard box full of candles and drinking mugs, all sorts of miscellaneous items, the zipper was recessed under a flap to keep the weather out. The material is a very sturdy waterproof nylon. Everything arrived in great condition at their destination, no problems on the way, they were super happy with it. And now it’s folded back into its small nylon carry bag until next visit. I was so impressed with this purchase that I am going to get another one for my vehicle.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersHonest review, we made it work
We got this bag because, comparing it to others, it didn’t get its stars on customer service alone. What good is it to have a bag replaced after breaking (awesome customer service for sure) if I need it do what it’s advertised to do. We took the bag from Florida to Tennessee on the roof of our SUV, got the 19 cubic feet one.
It rained all the way there, light rain on the first 6 hours (one day), and the bag kept everything dry. Heavy rain on the second half, water leaked in through the bottom of the bag. However, our stuff made it safe and dry because we did the following:
*We packed all of our puffy stuff on the SUOCO Vacuum Storage Bags (super recommended), so the water that did leak in didn’t get my stuff wet because the bags were in the bottom.
*We installed the bag with the zippers facing back so that the incoming water didn’t leak in through the zippers.
The bag is very sturdy and it fit a week’s worth of luggage for 6 people.
We bought the mat to protect our roof which I really recommend, and we also bought the extra tie down hooks which we didn’t end up using, but that I am keeping because we expect to use this bag a lot this year.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPerfect alternative to a clamshell carrie
We bought this for a snowbird stay in Florida and packed it with more “stuff” than I thought it would hold. It allowed us to travel with our dog in a lightly loaded car interior. It was simple and intuitive to attach to the roof and even though I checked its connections at most stops along the way, it never needed adjusting. (I should also note that I used my cars roof racks and did not attach to the door frames with the special included tabs. Without studying that connection too deeply I did discover that removing the foam padding on my car was not a simple process – it is tightly glued on. I would talk to a Body Shop professional before pulling it away from the frame.)
The one issue I did have was loading it up with our things. It is tough to arrange and adjust your gear in a floppy bag on top of your car. The manufacturer shows a more convenient method of loading it on the ground and then hoisting it to your car top. Good idea if you are the Hulk or Gregore Clegane (G.O.T. reference…) but for mere mortals that’s not a practical technique.
That said, the storage is great, the connect-ability is secure, and my final reason for giving this five stars is that I don’t need an entire corner of the attic or basement to store a huge and bulky clam-shell car top carrier that is used only once or twice every couple of years.
This is an affordable, sturdy, waterproof, practical way to transport a load of content over substantial distances.

Outstanding Customer Service and Quality Product!
I purchased my Cargo Bag on September 3, 2019 and used it the first time in traveling from Upstate New York to Florida the interior coating had several worn holes upon opening the cargo bag on arrival at him in Florida.

My experience was less than expected, I purchased the bag because of the military quality. I was very impressed with the quality upon receipt and was looking forward to the improvement compared to my previous competitors bag. It appears that I must have received one of the less than quality defective bags.

When I contacted Donna with RoofPax they immediately sprung into action, apologized for the inconvenience, acknowledge their quality deficiencies for the manufacturing lot that I had received and expedited a replacement cargo bag with no questions. I received my replacement bag with priority shipping as promised within two days. By far, exceeding my expectations!

My cargo bag is military quality as I expected, while it originally had an imperfection, what a great improvement over my previous bag that had leaked along the zipper line. Most importantly and what was most impressive and has embedded with me is the FABULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE that I had received and resolved my situation without question.

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CARGO BAG!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersExcellent - SO GLAD I got this
I spent a ton of time researching which rooftop carrier to get, and I’m so glad I got this one. First off, OUTSTANDING customer service from a family-owned company (thank you “Donna R”!). The product itself is excellent. Roomier than I expected, sturdy and durable, really easy to use. My car has two roof rails that run along the sides of the car (no bar along the front or the back, just along the two sides). This roof pack worked perfectly with my side rails. It has straps along the two sides that buckled very securely onto the roof rails. Did not need to run any straps inside the car, which I had wanted to avoid. To make sure your stuff stays dry in the rain, make sure to fasten down the flap that folds and velcros over the zipper (easy). When my trip was over, it folded up easily into a nice compact bag for storage. This product cost a little more than other roof packs, but on my trip I kept saying that it was some of the best money I ever spent.
The company says it is a small family company and that showed – I emailed them with a couple of questions, and they got back to me promptly and were very patient about my slightly neurotic need to make sure I was getting the right thing, lol. They were a pleasure to deal with.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat Storage, not 100% Waterproof
Tons of storage and very easy to get set up. I have roof rails so it was even easier. It felt very secure and never had any issues or concerns that it wouldn’t be. Unfortunately, on a 4+ hour drive from Maine to CT with light-to-moderate periods of rain, we did have some water get in. One of our bags was fairly wet – nothing inside was wet but with longer exposure to the elements would definitely lead to that. I tried very hard to see exactly where the water was coming in and while I can’t locate it 100%, it’s obvious it’s getting it in somewhere/somehow.

I still gave 4 stars because it worked well for extra storage, was very easy to set up, and seems well-built other than being 100% waterproof. Now that I know what to expect I can plan for it by putting bags with clothes in trash bags or some other plastic cover before putting it in. We have 2 small children using a Jeep Cherokee – stoller, pack-n-play, a bag for my wife and I, bags for them, diaper bags, toys (go ahead, try to travel w/o toys when you have a 1 and 3-year-old, i dare you!), and much more. Using the RoofPax i was able to fit all of that easily, and i was able to get my golf clubs in as well. While it’s not 100% waterproof, it still keeps out 95% of water/moisture.

We bought this for my daughter's move to college. Everything came in a organized bag, and the instruction was easy to follow. After reading the reviews, I was a little apprehensive about attaching the tie-down hooks to my car windows, but I did not encounter any issues with my Honda CR-V. During the drive, which was mostly on highways, the carrier did not shift in position on the car rooftop. Some of the reviews mentioned issues with water proofing of the carrier. When we got to the college town, there was a pretty bad thunderstorm, and lots of rain came down. Wne I checked the carrier after the storm, the external surface of the carrier was pretty damp, and there was pooling of water in creases of the carrier (we did not pack the carrier full to the gill, so there were lots of places for creases where water could pool). Inside the carrier was generally dry, except one area near the front of the carrier -- I suspect that this may be due to water pooling near the zipper. Even then, the amount of water inside the carrier was minimal. I double bagged everything we put inside, so there was no damage. Based on this, I would say that the water proofing of this carrier is reasonably good. It seems that at some point, a carrier with smaller capacity was available (we bought the 19 cubic feet version) -- that probably would have been a better fit for our purpose, but I am overall happy with the one we bought.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersRoofPax has really created a 5-star product. From the moment you open the box, you can tell it's an impressive product. The bag comes in a storage bag to keep it clean and it folds up into a great size when you aren't using it. After opening the storage bag and pulling the RoofPax carrier out, you can feel the durability of the materials used in construction. It's got thick waterproof construction, waterproof zippers, hot welds inside around joints to further waterproofing efforts, hefty zippers, and an integrated mat to protect your investment. I personally have two vehicles, one with a roof rack and one without so this is an ideal solution for either because RoofPax has truly made a universal product. What's better? How big it is! I can fit so much stuff in this bag its unreal. Whether your packing up and moving, going on an adventure, or just going to see the in-laws for a weekend, you can put everything you need in this bad boy! After strapping up, which in theory sounds hard, but RoofPax door hooks are a breeze to pop on and off, just go for a test ride. One would think a large bag atop a car would be incredibly noisy and bothersome, but I don't even notice the bag especially since I don't have unsafe straps running through my car to hold it down. I would recommend this to my friends, my family, my neighbors, a stranger, and really anyone with a car. Eleven out of ten!
