Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFirst brought these 8 years ago and had lasted well until we had badgers last year and a lot got damaged. They are easy to install but do only install when ground wet. If ground to hard the spike will snap if you press to hard on it. Also get a 2 year guarantee

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSome of the reviews have said that the product breaks when put into the ground with pressure. The instructions do say that they should be pushed in, by hand, into soft soil. Any resistance get your little shovel out and dig a hole. I had to do that with all of mine as we have very stoney soil.
I am however very happy with the product! Looks very nice

5.0 out of 5 stars Pre dig the hole if you have hard/stoney soil

I ordered this stone effect lawn edging , but I found them to be a bit too flimsy to use for our lawn edging,
They are cheap but really not very practical for a large garde

Their instalation, using a metal spike to preform a hole in the ground to fit the bottom plastic tang, was very easy, they are weather proof and look quite presentable. The price was very competitive compared to similar quantity of stone ones.

They were not really suitable for what we purchased them for. Our ground is exceedingly hard so they couldn’t be hammered into place, but we have used them and they have tidied the edge of the law

These edging pieces do look quite good when installed. However just blindly hitting them into the ground would not work for me. I had to loosen the soil, press in an edging piece making sure it was locked into the previous piece and then press the soil back to hold the edging.

It was a tough descision wether to have the good side facing out for passers by to see or facing inwards for me to see. Maybe they should make a double sided one.

Made the slots in the soil first then snipped about half the spike off so they slotted in easily

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe spikes are very flimsy and definitely would not attempt to tap them into place with a mallet etc as they will just snap
I fitted them by making a slot deep enough for the spike and this way were easy to fit and look neat and tidy once done

I see in different reviews of this type of border that people are complaining about the plastic breaking after trying to hammer the spikes into the ground. 🙁 I did try to do this myself initially, but soon realised the spikes were not pointed enough to do this, and that the plastic wouldn’t hold out doing it this way.

So I dug small 4-5 inch cavities in the soil and put them in, Refilling the area afterwards. A bit of a pain, but worth it because it holds them perfectly.

They are an affordable price, and look very attractive around my gravel partition!

I would recommend them; But don’t Buy them thinking you can just push them into the ground with ease.. it will require an effort!!

Very easy to use, I was concerned reading some of the reviews that they might snap but although they’re plastic, they’re sturdy enough to work with. Can’t fault it for the price!

When they arrived i found them to be very shiny but a spray of matt varnish toned them down. They join together very easy and the amount suited the short area they were needed for.

If you water the area used about an hour before so it’s soft ground, these will push or lightly tap into the ground easily. I did break a couple but that’s due to brute force and hitting a rock in the bed. Very happy with the end resul

For the money these are really good and look great too, now they’re not the most sturdy but for the price you can’t argue with it, the 1 bit of advice I would give is don’t make the mistake of trying to simply try and hammer them in as they will break I make the hole ready for them to straight in then press the soil or the grass up against them

I have found this stone effect lawn edging ideal for the curved flower beds I have. Previously I have used wood rolls but they rot too quickly and the wood lice love them. Strimming is easy too.
They are much cheaper to buy through Amazon than a catalogue company and delivery was very quick.

Very flimsy, will snap if you try to bend them for a corner or push down too hard. Broke a few while trying.
Still look ok though once finished.
Just make sure you dig a hole first so you’re not putting too much pressure on them while installing them.

These had very mixed reviews but I decided to take the plunge. My front garden needed a bit of a lift and tidy up.
I found using a hand shovel helped to make a hole first. Little tip don’t bash the border down with any tool other than your hand, i thought id be clever and give one a little help with a mini shovel and it chipped.
Im pleased with the effect and how they have turned out. They do exactly what i bough them for.

DO NOT try and tap these into the soils they are brittle and will break. while they slot together easily which is great in on a level surface, not so easy when on a bank, they also pull apart just as easily. You cannot have a 90 degree turn, you must overlap them, not the tidiest solution. Not the sturdiest but then good value for what they are, and I must say they do look pretty good in position.

    looks good when in place

They are quite good. I don’t like the very pale grey colour. Would be better in a dark grey or black. I’m going to paint them but don’t know yet if they will take paint.!!!. They are sturdy and very easy install..just push down into the soil.

I ordered a set on these some time ago but have just got around to installing them in the garden. As they don’t fill the whole border that I wanted to edge I ordered a second lot. I am very disappointed that the second order is such a different shade. The first lot were a lovely shade of pale bluey grey and look great. This second order which I have now received are a dark grey and just don’t match at all. It is going to make the border look odd. The product itself is good and I was pleased with it I just wish you kept the colours the same.

These are ok for the money but you need an easy edge with no obstruction as they are a bit flimsy

I was looking for an inexpensive way to tidy up a neglected corner and I’m delighted with the way this turned out. It took a bit of forethought and effort but it’s a great way to spend a tenner!

Warned by other reviews, I made a hole for each retaining spike and just pushed them into place. They simply are not robust enough to survive being hammered in.

I also cut off the closed end of each link slot with a hacksaw, to allow stepping on rising ground.

It’s surprisingly easy to create a curved edge by slightly changing the angle at which successive spikes are pushed in.

It took a couple of hours to produce the result in the pic. Once backfilled with soil and bark, it isn’t obviously plastic. I’m well pleased.

Does the job more than adequately

  32. KathariC65 says:

Yes, they are plastic, knew that before I purchased! They are rather more blue than grey, but as I have other blue features (like a bench) they look well. No, they won’t last for ever and if you have kids or large dogs crashing about, maybe they are not for you. However, I am happy with the result; they stop soil from spilling onto my paving/stonework and give a neat finish. Installation: I am a small female and had no problem, bit of patience needed that’s all. You do need to use a handtrowel to dig a hole for the spike on each section. My patio is pressed concrete and there were a great many stones in the soil at the edges (stones probably used as a base for the concrete), so I had to make sure these were cleared to get the sections straight. I have a few spares, so I would expect a fair few years out of these edging strips, they won’t rot like wooden edging, but may in time get more brittle.

EASY ENOUGH TO INSTALL, AND A NEAT FINISH

I did find them relatively easy to install, but it’s not as simple as pushing them into the ground. I found that I hit a stone or root almost every time. It took a lot longer to install them than I expected but very happy with the outcome.

I must have read dozens of reviews for this before deciding whether to buy or not. In the end I decided to order a small amount of 5m to test the product, so if it turned out to be useless i hadn’t wasted a great deal of money.

The delivery was quick, just a few days, and the product looked as per the photos in the description. I needed to replace a log roll border that was fitted around 11 years ago and has now rotted away. It was there to separate a stone/gravel path from the garden border, and over time at the edge the stones and soil had mixed, causing lots of weeds etc. on the path, and making it rather unsightly.

Being aware of the comments in the reviews, I was extra careful about doing the fitting. The notes within the delivery did actually state not to use a hammer etc. only your hands, so I managed to dig out a narrow trench, where the original log roll had been, and then dig down 3 or 4 inches more in the middle of each length to fit the spike, which was sturdier that I expected.

It was hard on the knees, but I managed to fit all the 5m length without breaking any of the pieces.

So I think that as long as you’re aware that these can be a bit fragile if handled roughly, you should be ok. I’ve subsequently ordered another 20m, to complete the replacement of the rotten log roll.

I hesitated as some reviewers were critical of these edging pieces but as several reviewers spoke some common sense about them and the best way to fit them I took a chance. They arrived well boxed and they look good. Taking advice from previous purchasers I used a spade to created a slot alongside the path where the edging was to go about 100 mm deep. The tangs that go into the soil are thin and so a simple spade pushed down into the soil is enough, you don’t need to dig. The edging tiles clip together well and are easy to push into the spade slot by hand. Once levelled, hand pushing the soil behind the edging tiles is all that is needed and the cobbled effect looks really good. I didn’t find them flimsy, didn’t break any and fitted the entire 5 m length in less than an hour. The only point I would say that you need to be aware of is that only one side of the edging is cobbled. The “backside” is ribbed (for strength) but not unsightly. However if you were fitting them where the edging is clearly visible from both sides then possibly another type might be needed. My path that I edged has shrubs down the bed so the “backside” is not visible. So I am really pleased with this product and the price is amazing.

Product looks great from the front, but if you have a dual aspect flower bed it has just unsightly plastic ridges running down the back. They are also a tad on the flimsy side.
The packet also only comes with each ‘stone’ having a slot out on the left side and a slot to go in on the other ie there are no starting ‘stone’ . So the left hand side of your border will have an unsightly ish look on that side… you MAY try to hacksaw this off but I havent been that brave yet.
    – to hide the unsightly plastic at the back I thought of doubling them up back to back, but because of the slots and the ground it wasnt viable.

Otherwise, aesthetically it looks good from the front, except hard to get them to go in a totally straight line with an established border and will HOPEFULLY help keep my lawn from spreading so easily.

BUT all this said, i am reasonably happy
    I tried to

They are easy to install but to connect them all then start putting them in ground slowly. I then went back to the beginning and pushed them in further. They not really designed to bent where they connect but I wanted to box them around the fence 1 has broke where they connect but I’ve managed to make it look ok. 5m doesn’t go that far so ordered a second box. They are quite flimsy so push them in ground carefully. Do not hammer. I used a knife to get a straight line in soil so it was easier to slip the edging into soil. But I am happy with how they look so far.

    They look nice. Once in.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI found the edging easy to install after making sure the ground was very soft. I suggest buying in the Autumn/Winter months when the ground is more workable – I have clay soil. Even though the ground was soft, I still had to make a trench with a trowel (this was the right shape) . Not suitable for tapping in, just push gently and once they are in, because they lock together, they are quite sturdy.

I would buy again now I know how to install them as they make the garden look quite tidy in fact I have bought two sets. I can understand why some people would find them difficult to insert if this is a first time buy but the are good value for money.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’d read the reviews and been undecided about this product . But I couldn’t get anything else so I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. As with everything, it’s the prep that matters. So I made sure the ground was soft and dug a trench to make it easier to insert. There were a couple of spaces where underlying tree roots made it difficult to locate however I also found they were easy to cut so I made the spike shorter to get around the problem. I’m please with the resul

I had difficulty initially installing the border.. I had made sure the ground was dug and well watered but trying to get them in far enough by hand was impossible for me. I’m not a gardener, this is my 1st time to try so I really struggled but my next door neighbour {who is a gardener} saw my difficulties and he gave me a metal stake and a small lump hammer to make the holes in the ground for the border. He also told me to work from left to right.
Doh! I had been trying to link them together the wrong way.
Once I did what he suggested I found it plain sailing. It looks very neat, feels secure and I am pleased with the finsihed result. I would buy it again.

I had a garden within which the earth was above a small path. Therefore, it kept falling on the path.
This was a cheap solution and does not look too bad in-situ. Needs careful installation but once in and backed with the earth, sufficiently sturdy.

I haven’t actually got round to putting these in my garden yet. From the look of them I see no reason why they wont be fine for my boarder. That is the reason for 4 stars. May go up to 5 stars in future.

The items arrived in a timely manner. I lay out pieces as I planned to install them. One has to work from left to right due to the way the pieces click together. As per other reviews the pieces are not very sturdy plastic, and I found even though the ground was soft enough, if there are any stones or soil hard, the pieces could break easily.
I found that if I prepared a hole for the pieces spike. (Used a an old scewdriver and hammer), and then placed the piece in, they came together nicely… The image above was the first of several flowerbeds I edged… 25m in total.. so took awhile , the end result was nice.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersMuch lighter than I expected, but I found no need for a mallet to knock them in! I simply pushed them in making sure the slides fitted together. Only had 2 or 3 to shorten and used a Stanley knife for this purpose. Need to be careful though, but simple enough. As per photos the little front garden now looks complete. Should last forever as they are plastic, but the blackbirds digging for worms etc, might eventually end up moving the edging. Light and very quick to fit, also looks great. Job done.

Light, weather proof and easy to fit.

Plastic moulded boarder edging for decoration only. If you are dealing with hard ground prepare the soil for the stake before trying to insert as not designed to be pushed to hard. Soft soil I found it was easier but did prepare ground a little. Prepare and mark where you want stakes to go as putting one in at a time I found caused uneven lines and plastic began to bend. It did the job I wanted which was to separate grass from stone boarder.

Golden Review Award: 119 From Our UsersBought this to replace log roll border as i was sick of keep having to woodstain when it faded and my current log roll was rotted. Was a bit dubious after comments of it breaking but for the price decided to give it a try. Yes up close you can see it is plastic – of course it is but for under a tenner it was what i was expecting – if you dont want this i suggest you spend hundreds getting stone cobble border!

The soil in our area is very clay so thick and muddy – yet i did NOT snap a single one putting it in and i used the whole box. How? My husband saw my concern with the feedback people had left and recommended i use a spade to simply ‘slice’ a channel in the soil, meaning the edging slid straight in with my hands without hammer, bashing or hitting. So thanks guys for leaving that feedback it meant we were prepared.

For using some spare pieces to edge along some paving stones where the birds kept digging out the bark, i could not get a full spade depth due to stones/concrete beneath the patio flags. Therefore i used garden snips to cut 1 inch off the bottom of the spike of the edging to make it easier to push in and because this is flush against paving stones it is still sitting quite secure.

I am going to buy another box to get rid of the rest of my log roll edging.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersAs others have said, it’s not quite as durable as the description would perhaps imply. I can concur that hitting it with a mallet would definitely be a bad idea. That said, it’s reasonably good for the price and only took a few minutes to install.

Each section is 24.5cm long when interlinked. This makes the entire run 4.9m rather than 5m (just in case anyone needs it to be exactly 5m). It would be 5m if you didn’t connect them but that’s a bit unrealistic I’d have thought.

An installation tip would be to mark where the spike needs to go in then use a trowel to make a 6″ deep slot first. That way the pieces slide in with minimal force. Take it from me (and other reviewers) the spikes will snap off very easily.

Dropped it a star as couple of spikes snapped off despite me being very careful. I would keep the strimmer away from it obviously as it’s soft plastic.

Only time will tell but at present it’s doing the job and I’ve ordered another pack.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI was rather unsure about purchasing this product as the reviews were fairly negative. However the parcel arrived on time (albeit in a slightly too large box) and the installation was easy. Nothing broke, it all fitted in space perfectly and is doing the job as expected. Rather than hitting with a hammer I made a slot with a very large knife (much like planting bulbs) and it took me about half an hour to use two boxes. Very happy with result. Thank you. Since this review I have mulched flowerbed with bark and result is just what I wanted. Photo attached. Again, thank you!
