If you already have an M2 Plus headstrap, you need one of these. It makes the headstrap MUCH more comfortable, meaning you can wear it for longer. As a handy bonus, it also gives you more battery life, meaning you can wear the headset for longer…

If you don’t own an M2 Plus headstrap yet and are reading this to decide if you should buy the full ‘Pro’ kit with the strap and battery, or just the strap on its own; the answer is “buy the kit”. If you buy the M2 Plus on its own, you WILL be back here in a day or two, buying the battery upgrade and wishing you had listened to me. Trust me. And buy the carry case while you are at it – the bundle price means you basically get the battery upgrade free.

How do I know this? Well, I’m old for a start, so I just know stuff. Also, I bought the M2 Plus headstrap on its own, and a day later I ordered the battery upgrade and a case. So, yeah. Been there, done that.

Just for a bit of background, the reason (in my opinion) that the M2 Plus is a big improvement over the standard or Elite straps is that it takes the weight of the Quest 2 off your face. The ‘halo’ design transfers the weight to the top of your forehead, where it’s much more comfortable. Essentially, the strap system balances on your head, and the rear strap is only there to stop it tipping over. It doesn’t clamp the Quest to your face like the Elite and stock straps.

Trouble is, the Quest 2 is pretty heavy, partly because it’s got a battery in it. Even with the M2 Plus strap, it doesn’t quite balance. If you have short hair or are bald, the M2’s rear cradle will grip enough to stop the Quest from tilting down. If you have long hair as I do, there isn’t enough grip so the quest still tries to sit on my nose.

The extra weight of the battery at the back of the strap is enough to perfectly balance the Quest 2, even over my hair.

So, the solution to having a heavy battery at the front of the Quest 2 is to put another heavy battery at the back. Excellent. Why didn’t they just put the battery at the back in the first place?

Technically, you could just counterbalance the headset with anything – fishing weights, bags of sand, etc. However, the improvement in comfort means you can wear the Quest 2 for three hours or more. Since the Quest 2’s battery only lasts about two hours, you need the extra battery life to make use of the comfort gained by having an extra battery fitted. It’s a paradox.

Being pedantic, you could achieve the same result by attaching a power bank to the back of the M2 Plus. But this is designed to fit, and it does so perfectly. I had to remove three screws and take off a cover, fit the battery dock in the resulting space and put the three screws back in. You even get the screwdriver. The battery attaches magnetically, and beeps to tell you it’s on properly. It has a clicky button and lights to tell you the charge condition (although it’s on the back, so you can’t see it while you are wearing the headset).

It has an attached cable which is the right length, and can be concealed nicely. The charging point for the battery is on the top where it’s easy to get to – even when your headset is in the case. It supports pass-through charging, so you don’t need to keep unplugging the port on the Quest itself.

It even looks good. Which is really important, even though everyone looks ridiculous while playing games in VR… yes, even you. Ever climbed a ladder in Half-Live 2? Imagine what that looks like from the outside!

As usual for BoboVR products this battery Quest charger/holder is well made and the functionality is terrific. It comes with a battery that makes a satisfying beep when you put it on to indicate it is charging. If you are using this kit to upgrade your current BoboVR headset it comes with all the tools you need to fit it.

I am using mine on a Quest Pro with the addition of a little bit of adhesive Velcro. It sits quite comfortably on the back and the additional weight is barely noticeable. It tones in pretty well with the Quest Pro design too.

In summary, a great addition if your looking for extra playing time with BoboVR’s hot swappable batteries.

Adapts to work very well with the Quest Pro
