This is a fantastic option for those who want a complete dumbbell set in their home/garage, but don’t have the space. If you’ve ever seen how much room a full set of 2 dumbbells at each weight of 2.5/5/7.5/10/12.5/15/17.5/20/22.5/25kg takes up, it’s a massive amount: 20 dumbbells plus a big rack to put them all on .This package offers the same choice in weights, but with a much smaller stand and just two dumbbells.

To begin with, each dumbbell is pretty large, as you’d expect from something that weighs 25kg and has a mechanism to adjust the weight within. Despite their large size, I found that they were very comfortable to do bench press, should press, side raises, rows, squats, and so on. The handles are standard size, and so easy to grip – they also have a decent textured coating which helps too.

The mechanism is very easy to use. You simply press down a small button on one side of the dumbbell and then on the opposite side you twist the cog to choose the weight you want. It’s very smooth and easy, there’s no sticking or anything like that. You’re looking at around 5 seconds to change the weights from 25kg to 10kg, for example. The tray, which sits on the stand, holds the weights that are not in use once you lift the dumbbell up. Once you place the dumbbell back down, everything is once again lined up and you can readjust the dumbbell so that all the weights are connected again.

Speaking of the stand, it’s extremely robust. Based on the shape of it, I was worried it would be susceptible to bending or bouncing and even being a bit dangerous. However, I can say that it’s incredibly solid and stable. It holds the entire 50KG+ of both dumbbells and the trays with ease.

My only hesitation with these dumbbells would be that they are clearly designed for bodybuilding/accessory type movements – i.e. repetitions of movements to build muscle or rehab/prehap joints. I don’t believe they would be a good choice for someone looking for dumbbells to do Crossfit style metcons with where there’s a risk of dropping them or regularly striking the floor. This is because the plates could end up being broken off the dumbbell or the mechanism damage with multiple impacts. For these kinds of exercises, I’d probably recommend rubber dumbbells. That said, you could use these for cardio workouts: like quick squats, presses, hang snatches, and so on – you would just want to make sure there’s no repetitive impacts with the floor.

So, yes, these dumbbells are very functional, they save a great deal of space, the mechanism is smooth and easy to operate, and the stand they come with is plenty strong enough to hold them. The final thing to say is that they look pretty good too. They are primarily black with splashes of red, yellow and white for the details. Overall: a great choice!
