C-Pen Exam Reader 2 | Text-to-speech Reading Support

Got this for our dyslexic daughter mostly for when they start using them in her dyslexia lesson and exams. She’s not used it much at home yet but knew how to use it straight away. It’s easy to use and mostly accurate I think we need more practice regarding the accuracy. I would definitely recommend.

I bought it for my daughter for studying and her actual gcse exams. Whilst it will work for her exam as she is allowed a reader, the pen has got its limitations being that it can only read standard text on white paper. If the text is other than standard at a regular size it can not read it. This means it can not read hand written notes or small writing. Something that is necessary for my child to exist in the education system on a level playing field with other children without dislexia should not cost as much as the c pen currently dose.

Not easy to use if you have macular degeneration and difficulty zeroing in on a specific line of text.

I bought this for my severely dyslexic 13 year old son. He’s in grade 7 reading at a grade 2 level. It works amazing. He loves it. There is literally no lag you scan and when you are finished it reads it out. Take headphones so he can use it in class. It’s pricy but so far we are loving it. We just got it so not sure on how it will hold up over time but it looks pretty durable.

My 10 yo has a visual/neuro disability that interferes with reading ability. The c-pen exam is a simple, well designed tool for her to use in class rather than her needing constant oral administration from another individual. The voice is much more natural than anticipated and versus other audio devices we have used. The feature to repeat a sentence rather than having to rescan has been extremely useful to her, as well.
Of course, her classmates thought it was the coolest thing ever. Thankfully, she doesn’t feel like it makes her a target for teasing.
The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because the font-size reading capability is more limiting than I had hoped. As she promotes to higher grade levels, font size decreases and some “large print” options are almost too big for the reader. Not all, but some. I understand the pen is expected to have some limitations but I almost wonder if we just happen to be in the sweet spot of font sizes. Hopefully she will be able to use it for a few years before the font is to small for the pen to read accurately and without mixing words from other sentences. Overall, we truly are grateful for this pen.

Wir haben den Stift zur Untersttzung beim Lesen bei LRS gekauft. Wir sind erstaunt wie gut es funktioniert. Haben nur Probleme mit den fotokopierten seltsamen Schriften, die die Lehrpersonen aussuchen (die kann man so schon kaum lesen). Der Stift kann alles Lesen was normal gedruckt ist. Die Schreibschrift auf besagten Fotokopien konnte er auch nicht lesen. Was ich nebenbei gesagt eh schon eine Frechheit finde sowas einem LRS-ler vorzulegen. Ich habe den Eindruck, dass es im englischsprachlichen Bereich sogar noch um einiges besser ist als im Deutschen. Somit gibt es fr falsche Aussprache auch keine Ausrede mehr. Im Deutschen ist die Sprache etwas abgehackt und es ist etwas gewhnungsbedrftig den Stift zu halten. Die Oberflche ist sehr glatt und man rutscht leicht ab, der Stift liegt nicht besonders gut in der Hand. Die Bedienungsanleitung ist sehr drftig auch die englische aus dem Internet hat mir nicht alle Fragen beantwortet. So dass manche Funktionen bestimmt nicht genutzt werden, weil ich keine Anleitung dazu finde. Hierfr gibt es den Punktabzug.

Just got this yesterday so will update later. Great looking, light weight, and easy to use. Teen dyslexic is impressed with the practice scanning she did. We like that you can change the voice between American and British; allows for a more personal experience. Seems to get the majority of the text; didn’t go well on her handwriting, but that’s not why we bought it. Hoping it will help with worksheets, notes, and reports. Probably not great to read a book, especially with so many of the books on audio anyways. I will be adding it to her 504 for use in class and with the headphones, she won’t interrupt the class. The price is on the high side, but it is an investment. I’m sure every teen has a phone, which costs 2 times this, but this helps with the “important” stuff.

I bought this reader pen for my 16 year old niece who thinks it is wonderful. She has dyslexia and has particular difficulties with reading comprehension, having the pen read the words aloud for her has meant she no longer has to re-read information four or five times before she has understood its content. She loved the fact the pen is small and light and can be slipped into her pocket. She uses her own headphones when in class and most people are not aware she uses one. She also can understand the more natural voice, as it does not have the ‘Stephen Hawking’ style voice.

This pen has made such a difference to the amount of time she spends on her homework, and as she is studying for A Levels at the moment and has quite a bit of reading to do this can only be good. The other marvellous thing about this pen, is that it can be used for examinations like A Levels and does not require access arrangements. Unfortunately, the school did not understand the benefits of this pen, so I bought it for her.
