Quite impressive
I bought two of these to finally make the jump to 1440p having been on 1080p for years and the difference is brilliant.
The monitors themselves are great with decent colour, and frankly great features for the price. The combination of HDR, IPS, 165hz and 1440p at this price is pretty hard to beat.
A small downside, but likely to be expected at this price point is there is a small amount of back-light bleed noticeable when the screen is on, but showing an all black picture. This doesn’t really bother me so much, but worth mentioning as this might be commonplace.
Lightweight large and bright.
Excellently packaged, which is important, because a curved screen is fragile.
Assembly tool free – comes with display port, dvi and USB cable.
Thin bezel. Great addition to a laptop with setup.
Better mixed use monitor than MSI G273Q
I had this 27 inch monitor for 5 days now and I am surprised that it does a bit of what I was looking for: wfh, movies and gaming.
It does not show the patchy bits while watching a movie that my MSI G273Q does. It’s got good contrast and way, way better text clarity than my MSI G273Q. It’s got good gaming image (Warzone 3, Call of Duty 3) and more options to set the monitor.
I will comeback with a review later.
Really nice display for the price.
Dell make such good monitors and price to performance is always great. This monitor does everything well. Good colours, decent contrast and well designed with an understated look. The monitor is blurry out of the box due to the overdrive being on the lowest setting. Once increased it works great.
Absolutely blown away by this monitor for gaming on PS5. It takes full advantage of HDMI 2.1 delivering 120hz at 4k. So, so smooth. I play FPS (MW3) and my game play experience – and competitiveness – has improved massively. I came from using a decent 4 yr old Samsung 32 1440 delivering 60hz to this and the improvement is abundantly obvious.
I use this for work too and have no complaints there either. Characters are crisp and scaling is great too. Works and plays extremely well.
Really pleased with this monitor – no buyers remorse or niggles to complain about.
Absolutely love this one. Another excellent monitor from Dell. No issues with it so far, games and movies look beautiful and are easy on the eyes. Brought on Black Friday week for 161. I’m so happy I waited to buy otherwise it would of been massive purchase for me.
Great curved monito
This is a great curved monitor for the Xbox series. X refresh rate high definition more than high definition hasn’t got speakers but easy to get two of those to plug-in would recommend.
This is a great 1440p 165hz monitor! Colourful and bright and the input lag feels instant, clean panel no dead pixels or uneven backlight, loads of presets for games even has a console mode where it excepts 4k signal at 60hz for Xbox or Ps5, although your better off using 1440p at 120hz on console as it halves the input lag.
Great all-round picture quality with a surprisingly good HDR image. Probably the best 3440×1440 VA 120+Hz monitor you can get for the price.
Only issue is regarding pixel response time modes. The “Extreme” mode is useless with severe inverse ghosting. “Super Fast” is the best for 90+Hz, but can cause very noticeable inverse ghosting at 60Hz. However, with VSync enabled in a game at 60Hz and Windows set to 120Hz the monitor internally redraws the frame twice removing the ghosting. This can be seen using the monitor’s own FPS counter which will show 120Hz. However, if using VRR and limiting the game to 60fps, the monitor will only draw the frame 60 times a second giving a worse image quality for same number of frames generated by the game in both cases. None, of this is an issue specific to this monitor however.
I think this monitor is great. good colours fast refresh perfect for gaming at a relatively good price. even though I bought it for 299 and its now on sale for 209 which kinda hurts but for anyone else that makes it such a steal. I would defiantly recommend it. I am coming from a 1080p laptop screen but I do have a 4k tv for console gaming. (HDMI 2.1 up to 144hz is fab for consoles)
I cant see what the bad review which people seem to agree on is all about I haven’t experienced any of those issues. this will be a great starting monitor for me until I finally build my gaming pc and then eventually move on to a 4k monitor but 1440p is a great middle ground with those affordable high refresh rates unlike 4k atm.
*UPDATE – Monitor being returned, starting to leave image retention after 3 months*
When HDR is off, the picture is incredible. Colours & brightness are spot on, quick response times & the Picture in Picture function is handy (albeit rarely used).
HDR is great on PC, as you can manually adjust the brightness from the desktop. However if you are buying for a PS5/Series X you cannot control the brightness functions (its greyed out) and the console settings don’t change this either. Picture is very dark when using them.
Would 100% recommend if you are looking for a Non-HDR monitor that is crisp, colourful & bright. I’m very happy with it with HDR turned off.
Got this 4K monitor to enhance my gaming with the RTX 4090.
Excellent 4K quality with vivid colours from the screen.
Took very little time setting up and did not have to alter colour settings.
Some monitors using 3840 x 2160 have to change the sizing of text etc to 150%, but this monitor auto does this.
The only thing i found slightly disappointing with the monitor, is that if you dont switch it on before powering on your pc, the screen displaystext etc at 100%, but if you switch monitor on before powering on pc, it will auto to 150% which is better.
The other thing i noticed compared to my old 2560 x 1440 2K monitor is that when switching on the monitor it will show screen then go blank for 1 second then come back on.
This is to do with the monitor registering that it is a gaming monitor and will also display that you are using either display port or hdmi.
The buttons on the rear seem pointless except for the main thumb which you use to adjust settings. Other buttons are for presets but not need them in reality
At the time of purchase this was the cheapest 32″ 4K 144Hz monitor available. The display comes in a solid chassis and my panel had good uniformity with no dead or stuck pixels. Has decent connectivity but is lacking some features such as USB-C, KVM, and BFI that can be found on more expensive displays.
Colour accuracy is excellent however it does have typical IPS foibles such as IPS glow, grey-ish blacks, low contrast and mediocre HDR; all of which are a limitation of the technology rather than a fault with this monitor. For my mixed use it’s fine but if you’re using it mostly for gaming or media consumption then I would consider spending more and going OLED.
Overall, it’s a good monitor for the money but be prepared to accept some shortcomings.
Honestly, could not be happier! it looks fantastic, easy to install, came with everything I would need for my pc setup and the quality is top tier!
I got it for an amazing price because the delivery was estimated to be from 2 weeks up to 2 months at the time, not sure why but no complaints from me. And on top of that it even came early!
G3223D will run at 4k 60 hz 1440p 120hz on xbox Serious x fantastic monito
Really good Monitor it will run at 4k 60hz for Xbox XS not mentioned by Amazon great price would like the 4k 120 hz one but refuse to pay 800 for it the G3223D has everything you need anyways for half the price @Dell would of been nice if added more USB Ports and the choice of two audio ports like on other models from this series of monitor and like your alienwear monitors
Excellent monito
Has to be overclocked to achieve the 165hz speed but it is excellent just at 144hz. Picture quality is great although I haven’t tested it fully on FPS games so far.
Best monitor for the price
Great specs, you wont get a better curved 1440p 165hz monitor at this price range
A great monito
My son is very happy with this monitor.
I marked it down as we had to purchase another power cable as the one supplied kept falling out. Otherwise great monitor. What you would expect from a known brand.
Thanks
Good gaming monito
If you want a curved monitor this is the best you gonna find
Superb image quality, response times and gaming performance.
At 200 quid nothing will beat this monitor in the 1440p moderately high refresh category.
No ghosting issues noticed on the VA panel.
Response times fantastic.
Good quality at a good price.
Screen looks great, high refresh rate and works well with both AMD or NVIDIA. Not a device to watch films on etc.
Great Monito
Use this mainly for gaming. Been great for that, only downside is HDR but that’s pretty overated and only good on very pricey products. this is great for its price, amazing value
Mainly streaming and gaming. Never ever had a problem with dell but this little beauties colours and detail is amazing
Just buy it!
There are several amazing traits to this monitor, but all you really need to know is that you won’t get a better all-rounder for your money in the current market. Virtually every other monitor that outperforms this unit suffers another major drawback; be it price, poor colour accuracy/vibrance, or a slow response time.
This monitor competes with the likes of the MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD and the LG 27GP850 while costing approximately 100+ less, practically all of the time.
This monitor is recommended by so many reviewers and after trying it myself, I can only reinforce their claims.
Pros:
– Picture quality is outstanding with a 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution, squeezed into a 27″ screen-space. This amounts to a pixel density of 109ppi (pixels per inch). For context, that’s about the same as a 40″ 4K display
– Phenomenal colour performance which is excellent for gaming and suitable for light colour critical workloads
– Gameplay feels blisteringly quick with a 165hz refresh rate and a response time that competes with TN panels, without the muted colours that come with TN displays
– No stuttering or screen tearing with BOTH Nvidia G-Sync AND AMD Freesync Premium Pro
– Price to performance is outstanding, this monitor should be in the 500 category
– Ergonomics and design, design is minimalist making it ideal for any aesthetic. Includes a vibrant blue LED (can be disabled in OSD) on the back that adds a nice premium touch to an otherwise “sleeper” monitor
Cons:
– Out-of-box colour performance can be a little oversaturated, which can make your whites look slightly yellow and skin tones look slightly red or tanned – this can be fixed through calibration but unless you do colour-sensitive work, I’d recommend just doing a search for DELL S2721DGFA colour settings and playing about with some other user’s recommendations. Every panel is different, but the settings shouldn’t vary too heavily.
– HDR performance is lacklustre but the same is true for the vast majority of displays on the market, it’s really just a marketing buzzword to encourage sales and while disappointing that it’s not well implemented, this should NOT deter you, because unless you buy a professional display for colour work or video editing, or an extremely expensive OLED display, you won’t get good HDR performance anyway.
– Some units make experience IPS glow or Backlight bleed, which can cause some areas of the display to glow during dark scenes or moments in games. My unit does have a little backlight bleed in the lower right corner, but I honestly only notice it when I’m actually looking for it.
To summarise, although this monitor does have some extremely minor cons, the pros FAR outweigh them. This monitor is an absolute bargain for the price so just buy it, you won’t be disappointed!
Good monito
I bought this to replace a broken monitor. It’s good, but the one criticim I’d make is that the instructions are poor. I would have liked to know that I needed to press the tiny button (joy stick really) to enter the monitor’s menu and engage the correct PC connection.
Best I found in this price range. IPS is my personal preference when it comes to display, had VA for some time but just couldn’t stand ghosting and washed hdr. This Dell on ufo test shows no ghosting, colours are fantastic, well, HDR could be better but anyway, it’s an improvement comparing to VA I had and it’s quite impossible to find proper hdr screen for this price.
Pros
Price
Colours
Size
Connectivity
Cons
LEDs in the back you can’t turn off
Makes quiet hissing sound when hdr is on
Not great UI of OSD
Edit:
when mounted to arm, sometimes loose power. Works perfectly on included stand.
Great Monito
his monitor is just brilliant. for the money you are spending the picture quality is miles better than i could have imagined.
i play FPS games (COD, overwatch 2 and apex) this monitor makes the image look crisp and clean!
Very good
Good image quality. Overall please with it . Couldn’t ask for more for the money.
10/10 but came with EU plug
10/10 product – just came with EU plug which is annoying
Awesome
Screen is big. Bigger than my old one. Quality is great and don’t have a bad word to say about it. Worth the money
Got this to replace another Dell monitor that met with mishap.
Cannot find any fault with it, gaming yes, watching movies in amazing clarity and details yes. Screen in screen yes. Very easy to control with the finger joystick on the back.
Buy this over ASUS, ACER, MSI, etc.
It’s a no brainer!
Preface: This particular model is MUCH MORE expensive on Amazon than elsewhere. It’s 819 on Amazon.co.uk at the time of writing this review, I can find it for 659 on Dell Business & Very.
Overall, this Monitor is fabulous to look at. The 4K, 144Hz display is incredible to game on and I’m happy with it for my gaming. For content creation purposes, I can appreciate the extra screen real estate as the monitor really benefits from 125% scaling on Windows. More analysis below:
Out-The-Box colour calibration is acceptable but the display’s contrast ratio is too low – blacks appear more grey. For HDR users: It has a decent peak brightness but the blacks are just too grey for me to call the HDR satisfactory – look for another product.
The monitor settings are intuitive to navigate and I’m able to remap 3 of the monitor’s buttons – I set mine to quickly switch between input sources and toggle Picture-In-Picture (PiP) mode on/off. PiP can display 2 inputs at once (e.g. a PS5 on HDMI and a PC on DisplayPort) which I was excited to try but this locks the monitor to 60Hz which was disappointing. You can arrange how PiP displays the 2 inputs (corner, side-by-side, etc.).
The monitor settings also boasts a “Response Time” setting (Fast/Super Fast/Extreme) BUT increasing it past the lowest setting (Fast) results in horrific ghosting which was unacceptable.
P.S: Amazon initially sent me a faulty monitor. I observed it had already been opened when it was delivered to me as there was no tape sealing it from being opened. The panel would not display anything – not even the monitor’s settings (input source, brightness/contrast, etc.) or “NO SIGNAL” windows. I contacted Amazon support and the next day UPS picked up the faulty monitor and a replacement was delivered. Happy to say this new one works swimmingly – just please be be observant when you receive yours to ensure that it’s TRULY “new” and not an already opened product. I have not factored this incident into my review as these things can happen and it was dealt with perfectly.
Bang for buck
The quality is a major upgrade to what I had before. Video games look amazing in 2k and play smoothly. The colors also are amazing for movie nights and large resolution is decent enough to do creative work and work with many tabs at once.
Seems really good, No dead/stuck pixels out of the box and really nice image quality compared to my old 1080p 144hz monitor.
Nothing to complain about at all apart from it should come with a spirit level cos getting it level lol had to measure the left and right corner distance to my desk. by eye it’s impossible !
When it arrived, I was disappointed since it appeared to have been thrown around in the vehicle, with the seal broken and the box scratched and dented, but once opened, it appeared to be in good condition.
In this price range under 700, an excellent 4K display. Having the PBP and PIP is really useful for both work and leisure. If you need a 4K display for business and the latest console/PC gaming, look no further.
I use thisdisplay for editing andgaming. I’d say it performs a good job with both size and colour reproduction using colour calibration X-rite i1profiler
Yes, it supports G-Sync out of the box, and if you’re playing ETS2 or ATS and the screen flashes, change the refresh rate to 60hz in game and the problem will go away.
On 4K, I was getting between 60 and 143 fps with my 3900x CPU and 3080Ti while playing Red Dead, Division, Farcry, Assassin Creed, and Rainbow Six Extraction.
YES, 4K gaming with a high frame rate using DP lead on PC
5.0 out of 5 stars Excelle
Probably the first monitor I’ve used where I haven’t had to adjust the default settings. Looks great.
With that price, no longer do you have to justify spending another 100 for a 240Hz jump from your standard 144Hz monitor.
Now aside from the obvious 240Hz goodness, being a devious color accuracy and contrast hog, I wanted to make sure this monitor surpassed the brightness and picture quality of my excellent Benq XL2430T, while being a 2015 TN panel, it still looks amazing to this day.
Now admittedly, out of the box, the white levels were yellow tinted which I absolutely can’t stand, but thanks to its 400 nits brightness and extensive color configuration, I was able to match the colors to my Benq 1:1 whilst looking no dimmer, which is something you can’t do with monitors lower than sub-300 nits unless you’re willing to stick with whatever colors are given to you. And coincidently, a lot of the 240Hz have 350-400 nits compared to the 144Hz suffering at 250-300 nits, unless you want to change either resolution or monitor size given the specs bump incentive.
So in the end, its fast, its color beautiful, extensive options that help with quality of life such as autoswitching inputs say if you strictly want to stay in DP input, the color options as mentioned before, and overall an excellent buy.
Extra: For anyone curious on my setting: Gain R:92 G:89 B:100, Saturation R:42 G:50 B:42, Contrast 80, Brightness 100
This monitor is an excellent buy for anyone looking for a high refresh gaming monitor that’s also outstanding as a work monitor.
I upgraded from an AOC 24G2U (1080p IPS 144Hz) and the difference between 1080p and 1440p was surprisingly noticeable, as was 144Hz to 165Hz. At 27″, the pixels per inch are incredibly high, and so the picture quality is very sharp. The slightly higher refresh also makes gameplay feel a lot smoother compared to my previous monitor, even if actual performance sits around the same frames per second – that’s also a compliment to Dell’s overdrive settings.
Gaming on this monitor feels very smooth, and if you’re lucky enough to be running a relatively high-end graphics card, then this resolutions feels like the sweet-spot for great visuals and high frame rate performance, which I found excellent in first-person shooter titles such as Call of Duty: Warzone.
Colour performance is also great, and my monitor has no dead pixels and very little IPS glow, which I know is something that can bother some people. There is a little IPS glow in the lower corners, but if you don’t plan to play in a dark room, you won’t notice this at all. Lots of reviews out there comment on how the contrast ratio is also low on this monitor, but again, I’ve not noticed any significant issues.
The on-screen display and menu navigation is made easy with a joy-stick like button on the back right of the monitor, and several buttons below to access other settings. There are two USB’s and a 3.5 audio input on the underside left of the monitor, and more USB’s on the rear – useful for any accessories or quick charging access.
Personally, I think this is a great monitor that ties a professional aesthetic with high-end gaming performance, and when compared to the competition around the same price (currently this monitor is 319.99 in the UK), then it’s the best option.
Great gaming monito
I use this as part of a dual monitor setup, one of my monitors is the Dell S2721QS 4K 60Hz display, and together with this QHD 165Hz it creates the perfect setup. I use the other monitor as my main monitor for work, then this is perfect for gaming. This monitor has the best looking stand, it looks very robust (better than the other monitor) and the back design looks cool without being over the top. The response time is brill, which is great for FPS’s like CoD. You can never go wrong with buying Dell.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant monito
Very pleased with this Dell monitor, crisp image quality and easy to set up , fast delivery and with HDMI cables included! Thanks
Best Monitor I have owned
For the price this monitor out performs most. I paired this with an Xbox series x and pc. Graphics look amazing, and is slightly bigger than my previous monitor but I like the change. The buttons on the screen took time to get used to the different functions, as I was too lazy to look at the manual. To get the most from the series x you need to change some setting on the monitor itself as well as the Xbox.
good product so far so good
only thing I dislike is the thick cable but that’s because of high power usage the light looks amazing its one color you can turn it off if needed (e.g. power saving usage , gets annoying) nice screen to bezel ratio but not flattering no speakers are in this device doesn’t have a crosshair mode on like almost every monitor gaming or not, but colors looks good its a good monitor.
Arguably the best in its class for this price range
This monitor was bought as a replacement for a Samsung Odyssey G5 which became faulty after less than 2 weeks. In retrospect I’m happier with this one than the Samsung. The resolution and framerate were easier to set up on an Xbox using this monitor than the other one, it was all automatic, and the on-screen controls are easier to navigate. Definitely happy with my purchase.
5.0 out of 5 stars Dece
Decent monitor, unfortunately can’t take advantage of the high refresh rate as I’ve got it connected to my PS4 pro
I bought this monitor as it has an IPS type LCD panel which does not suffer from poor viewing angles and colour reproduction as I wanted it for photo / video editing besides gaming. It would also be used for productivity applications when working from home therefore image quality is important for me. It does not disappoint in any way; there is no backlight bleed whatsoever and colours are bold and contrast is good. Even the IPS glow effect is minimised and not noticeable.
Bad points is there is no sRGB mode and I found the best picture quality was to set preset to game RPG mode and set hue to 46% otherwise the image has too much red in it. Also the HDR performance is pretty poor as it makes everything look washed out. But I’m not bothered about that as I don’t watch movies on it and gaming performance in non HDR mode is pretty much perfect.
Also this is a 165hz monitor; some negative reviews said that it isn’t and it’s a scam showing a photo of the model number and ratings plate. The 50/60Hz on the rear refers to the mains supply frequency not the scan rate of the monitor. Reviews of other monitors suggest that the mains frequency is often confused with the scan frequency. I can confirm it performs perfectly at scan rates of 120 and 144hz.
It is definitely worth paying that bit extra for the IPS panel versus the cheaper TN based panels. The monitor is something you spend a long time looking at and skimping on a quality display wouldn’t do your eyes any favours.
I came from NEC and Eizo monitors which are always good quality. This does not disappoint even though it has minor flaws.
The construction was very simple (screw in pillar to base with fingers, slide pillar mount into back of monitor and click. I was trying to find the vertical height adjustment but its simply pushing the screen up or down to the desired level, no special button :). Display quality is very nice, the extra real estate of 2560×1440 is very useful for working. I’d say its slighly less colour rich and a bit ‘flatter’ than my U2417-H-2 which is right next to it but its good quality for the cost. One annoyance is the base is quite deep and the overhang from the pillar to the screen is quite big so the screen cannot be placed flat against a wall. Mine is 11cm forward from the wall so the screen itself is 14.5cm closer to my eyes than my wall – I dont want to wall-mount as I need to adjust my work area from time to time, but this does noticeably intrude on my desk area and looks a little odd.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor, amazing quality
Online reviews will probably tell a much better picture, but I find no fault at all in this monitor.
Lack of setting up instructions
Tips on setting up for PC with Geforce RTX Graphics card.
Use the power supply cable supplied as this has a 10amp fuse. If you have only HDML cables to your graphics card your wasting your money on this monitor you wont go above 60 Hz without problems.
When first switching on you will see a small display bottom RH corner with countries listed and a Xbox controller Icon. I use a mouse on my PC took me to google to find operating buttons on the back panel hit the centre button and your there. It is impotant that you fit the DISPLAY cables that that are supplied. When you right click the screen it will go to Nvidia display it will show you already have sync with the graphics card. Here you can alter the Hz I used 144Hz. There is one other problem over 60Hz it does not like my WiFi adapter when I used the HDMI cable connection. So I hard wired it but left it in situ when using the display cable. As for speakers there are none that I can see, not a problem with usb headphones or blue tooth separate speakers with my system.
WARNING. Just found out that Amazons NEW WORLD game is causing Geforce high end graphics cards and CPU to run hot and that includes mine. No problem with my old screen noticed the fan started to act strange, using task manager both the CPU and Graphics was at 100%. Some have had there devices fried.
Have uninstalled New World as a precaution after reading reports from the net not safe to play with high end graphics cards and CPU.
I’ve purchased this S2721DGFA 27 Inch QHD monitor as an external monitor for my Apple MacBook Air M1 running the latest MacOS Monterey connected via DisplayPort.
It is interesting that this monitor was 299 from Amazon (Dell Store) yet 376 direct from Dell).
Why did I choose Dell?
Simply put, although there are a huge number of competitive monitors available at reasonable prices and similar specs (Gigabyte, LG, BenQ to name a few), I went for Dell simply because in the past I’ve used many Dell Ultrasharps which have been outstanding quality, totally reliable, never ever any issues. My old company (Solar Gas Turbines part of Caterpillar Inc) always used Dell (laptops & monitors) and they’re not going to choose something that gives problems.
I’ve connected a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to DisplayPort cable between one of the native M1 ports and the Dell. This is the “USB C to DisplayPort Cable 1.8m, WARRKY USBC to Display Port Lead (4K@60Hz, 2K@165Hz, 2K@144Hz)”, chosen for wide frequency operation – even though I don’t use games.
Out of the box the Dell is running 2560×1440 @ 165Hz.
My main monitor for my Win10 Dell M6800 laptop is a super brilliant Dell U2715H, very similar spec to the S2721DGFA, but is much more expensive, so I didn’t want to spend so much money on another 2715. The differences are marginal:
– The 2715 has more ports
– Both are the same resolution, same physical size. Same pixel density.
– The S2721DGFA has better colour space accuracy (e.g., sRGB, Adobe etc), better contrast & brightness characteristics.
My main purpose is for Photo scanning and editing, hence I need a decent size (27″) with high resolution and accurate colour rendition.
The photos show the same picture, with plenty of different colours, on the Dell & native MacBook screen (default ICCs).
What I’m particularly pleased about is that the same photo appears identical, in colour, on all my devices, M1, iPad, iPhone & Dell M6800 (Win10 with external Dell U2715H monitor).
This will give me confidence that any work I do on my negative & slide scans (I have about 3,000 to do going back 40 years) will yield consistent and accurate results – what I see on the M1 with S2721DGFA will be seen the same on my phone, tablet and other people’s devices, without having to recourse to expensive hardware colour calibration tools.
The range of ports on the S2721DGFA covers me if and when I connect another device (e.g. old MacBook Pro or Win10 laptop) either simultaneously with the M1 or independent of the M1 using either DP, HDMI or USB.
I would not hesitate to buy the same again should my trusty 8 year old U2715H decides enough is enough.
Great but not perfec
For it’s price it’s perfect
But…there are way better monitors out there.
I was expecting it to have a screen like some good TVs have or like the iPhone retina display.
Colors are very nice though but still not the image quality of a 4K TV
I pondered which monitor to buy for a long while, because there are so many makes/types/sizes etc. and the choice is a bit overwhelming.
Because I play games in a dimly lit room, I decided a VA screen was the best choice and in order to make it worth upgrading from my 16:10 format 24″ Dell I had used for the last 8-9 years, the size had to be around 32″ 16:9 ratio.
I finally decided on the Dell S3222DGM which has a 31.5″ diagonal and a 1.8m radius curved screen. I was a bit dubious about the curve but having seen some examples in a shop, I went ahead.
The monitor itself has nice narrow edges at the sides and top and is quite heavy and seemingly well constructed and finished.
Oddly, the buttons to alter characteristics etc. on on the RHS rear which is inconvenient and not ergonomically good, but after initial setup, they don’t have to be accessed often so I didn’t mark it down for that or for the slightly wobbly stand.
Tilt and height can be adjusted but not swivel.
Once I’d realised I hadn’t inserted the DP cable properly which resulted in a black screen, it works very well indeed giving a bright and high contrast picture which is superb especially since I can now run my favourite games at 2560×1440 resolution (2P).
Refresh rate is fast enough to not be noticable and the overall picture quality is stunning albeit with the brightness turned down significantly in my darkish room, and the curve is actually better than a flat screes at this size.
I would 100% recommend this monitor despite the very minor ergonomic issues and the score of 5 is justified. Excellent.
This is my honest review regarding Dell S3422DWG 34 inch WQHD
Before the review, here’s my custom-built computer specification that I use with the Dell S3422DWG 34 if you guys are curious…
Asus Sabertooth i7 mobo
Intel Core i7 6700K
32GB DDR4
NVMe 1TB SSD
Nvidia GTX 1660Ti 6GB (using DisplayPort 1.2)
Now, onto the review…
Spent weeks researching for the best all-rounder WQHD monitor. Remember, that WQHD means 3440×1440 not 2560×1440. BE CAREFUL, many so called WQHD monitors are actually 2560×1440! Some of the big names like Samsung etc, adverted WQHD as 2560×1440, which is false!
This, Dell S3422DWG 34 inch monitor is fantastically beautiful and so sharp/bright/colourful. The text looks so sharp and readable. I was blown away and still am.
Don’t get carried away with AMD Free-sync or Nvidia G-Sync hype… as long as you are using DisplayPort (DP) version 1.2 or higher cable with a good graphic card like mine (Nvidia GTX 1660Ti), the quality of gameplay at 30, 60 or 120fps, simply astonishing because of the 144hz refresh rate. Zero flickers, blurs etc.
Playing Doom 2016, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Sniper Warrior 3, Amnesia, racing games, Max Payne 3 and many more. Great experience and zero disappointments.
You may wonder the difference between TN, IPS and VA panel type displays. IPS panel type looks good from all angles, but poor low contrast ratio and suffer from “IPS glow”. This, Dell S3422DWG, a VA panel type display doesn’t suffer because of the natural curvature of the monitor. The curvature what makes this monitor looks good from all angles. So the VA vs IPS panel type argument is practically moot. Plus, the 3000 to 1 contrast ratio boost gives that deep black without being wash-out. The refresh rate is equally as good as the IPS panel type.
I’ve included few screenshots, plus a video clip playing Ghost Recon, Future Soldier
Overall, a beautiful Dell WQHD monitor and thanks to the supplier for deliver the exact item I wanted.
If you guys need to ask me anything I’ll be happy to help. Thank you
Amazon rocks!
5.0 out of 5 stars Stunningly good
Unbelievably good for just under 300. I can’t recommend this product enough!
Almost Perfect for Productivity, Gaming & Entertainme
This is almost a perfect monitor if it wasnt for the stand.
The baseplate of the stand is too big for me.
Otherwise, its absolute perfect for gaming, supports g-sync.
Perfect colour accurecy and viewing angles are amaging.
a bought this for my new Xbox series X …a needed to try out the 120 Hz on a 1440 Resolution…with the hdmi 2.0 this monitor meet my requirements …I am very happy so far with everything , it’s still early days but everything does as it should and more …
This monitor is amazing as it has an IPS panel. This means that colours will be very accurate. It is G-SYNC compatible and works by eliminating tearing in games. The 165hz is also a nice boost over 144hz. Overall, I am very happy with this monitor and would recommend it to anyone.
Its good but its not perfect.
Well I have owned the monitor for about 3 months now and wanted to see how I get on with it.
First thing I will add is it does suffer from light bleed and its very notable in dark rooms , I have found that using this monitor with the light on in my room at night works best.
Colours are nice out the box .
I mainly purchased this screen for the 165hz speeds and its safe to say it works fantastic and has defiantly made me a better FPS player. and thats the main reason why you buy this monitor anyway.
The Bad : Few issues I am getting , from time to time the screen will just go black for a few seconds not sure what causes this but can be a bit of a pain… maybe a software issue or the fact I have 2 other screens hooked up who knows . For the money its worth it.
Great screen and you wont be disappointed with it.
Literally, after switching from a TN panel 1080p monitor, this monitor seemed out of this world. The quality of colours and the display quality is just fantastic. Great monito
5.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor for Series X
Purchased this for my Series X to be able to play games at 1440p at 120fps works flawlessly. With lightning fast response times.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very good clear scree
Bought for my husband who loves it. Said it made a huge difference..
I have sampled a few 1440p monitors and 4k and this monitor ticks all the right boxes.
It has:
1440p Resolution
165Hz refresh
Freesync and G-Sync compatible
HDR, whilst not mind blowing it is noticeable if you come from an older 1080p SDR monitor. I don’t use the windows HDR feature as its garbage but more games now can auto switch to HDR mode. I haven’t watched any HDR movies yet but I have tested with Resident evil 2 remake and Resident evil village and it looks great with RTX on.
Size of the screen is ample
OSD features are easy to navigate
Built in USB hub which I use for my keyboard and mouse
height, tilt and swivel adjustable stand (amazing for ergonomics)
It has an LED strip built in the back, I don’t know if you can disable this and its a bit “gamery” for me
In conclusion from the monitors I have used over the years including cheaper supposedly 4k HDR monitors that cost less, this is the one to buy. When I can afford a second I will be replacing my second acer 1440p monitor with another one of these.
I upgraded from a 1080p IPS 60hz monitor and the difference is huge. it comes a little over saturated out of the box but dialing down the red has solved that issue. I play FPS games like fortnite and counter strike and the smoothness at 165hz is amazing. Also great for photo editing
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Xbox series X
Works and looks great on the Xbox series X when playing at 120fps , and it’s not bank breaking considering the quality
I was looking to replace a 1080 monitor. So did some research and ended up deciding between this Dell and the LG gl850. I went for the Dell. What I like is. No large power brick for the Dell unlike the LG although the Dell has an energy rating of G. The Dell swivels tilts and can be placed into portrait position too. I quite like the blue rear light on the unit but have now turned it off.. My model on the back says DEC2020 so it’s a recent make. The units osd is at the rear, as a little joystick and really easy to navigate the settings with. I wasn’t bothered about audio I have headphones connected to my pc, so cannot confirm if they are any good. The picture quality is very good. I don’t tend to play fast shooters, but I do have Sniper elite, which looks wonderful. I tend to play ETS2 and racing games which look very nice. Films look great.. There was no issues with any screen or build defects. The monitor arrived in just it’s sealed box, but that is solid and the monitor was very easy to assemble onto its stand. Instructions are minimal so I went onto the Dell UK site for more in depth manual and firmware which was also easy to find. I thought the 3 year Dell guarantee was good. I was offered a further cover protection for the unit for 28 at the checkout. Various reviews say it need calibrating to achieve it’s potential, although out of the box I found it ok. I’m a little colour blind anyway. I continue to tinker with the settings finding balances for my gaming experience.. The only think I unlike is the on off switch which is positioned bottom right of unit and is a very tiny, it does light up though. but that is a very minor thing (not an issue) I am happy with my purchase and believe I made the right choice for what I wanted. There are professional reviews out there for this product plus calibration ICC files so take a look. I am running i7700 and gtx1070.. The card I will update at some point in the future. I won’t be updating this monitor for quite some time…
Using it for Xbox Series X and Excel/work after spending about 6 months researching the best compromise. Can not recommend this enough – extremely happy with it. I don’t think you’ll find a better monitor at this price point.
I went from a 1080p va panel to this and wow the different was unreal!! The picture quality is amazing playing Xbox series x at 2k 120fps, backlight bleed is barely noticeable on my panel would deff recommend
Bought for Xbox series S - Very nice
Looked all over for a monitor that was 1440p IPS and could do 120hz over HDMI for the Xbox series S. This and the BenQ came up and after several comparisons videos/threads this seem to be better. Although I came from a Xbox one (original) and a 1080p TN monitor the combination of the new Xbox graphics and a 1440p monitor are pretty impressive. I predominantly play FPS call of duty/warzone and so having 120hz was a must. The ange feels very snappy and smooth and I do not notice any latency at all. Combine that with pretty impressive graphics and I’m very satisfied.
The monitor settings are pretty straight forward to set up and the monitor features presets for games like FPS which increase brightness in the shadow areas which I tend to use mostly. I suppose it’s a little pricey but I’m quite happy to invest in something that is of fairly high quality and hopefully will last for a good while. Monitor looks quite smart and has ability to move up and down or even rotate if you wish. blue LED at the back is a nice touch also. Would recommend.
