    Easy to use.
Hard to pick up with one hand, it’s bulky.
    Light is good.
Alarm tones unsuitable if you have hearing loss, even at max.
It will do, but shop around.

Life changing for me, improved my sleep pattern drastically, also made waking up in the morning much nicer during the winter, would definitely recommend to a friend.

Great source of light. Appreciate the option of a longer sunrise/sunset. A must have for the dark winter months

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI absolutely love this alarm. I’ve used this for one evening and one morning and I think this could be the best purchase I’ve made for myself. I work from home and I have been really struggling to get out of bed during winter, most mornings I don’t get up until quarter to 9. This morning, using the Lumie, I’ve managed to wake up at 5.40 with little struggle. I’ve been energised all day. I’ve been trying to push back my wake time for two months and suddenly this device seems to have fixed this in one evening. I was wide awake ten minutes before the sounds went off.

I also love the sunset option. I felt so sleepy last night watching it dim. I really felt like it helped to relax me.

The light / brightness is fantastic, especially for the morning. I also love the orange / red hues for the evening.

The sound could probably be louder however it’s plenty loud enough for an early rise as it’s so quiet at that time in the morning. Could potentially be too quiet if you are working shifts and needed this for the day? However if you’re sensitive to light and you have blackout blinds, you won’t need the sound at all as the light will naturally wake you up.

Ease of use will differ from person to person. I looked up their video guides on YouTube and found it very simple.

Overall I really do recommend this. I can’t speak to how long it lasts but I’m really pleased.

Love this as both an alarm clock and bedside lamp! Despite some comments about the clock being hard to use , I found everything nice and easy to set up after reading the instructions.
Love that you are able to cycle through tones/volume/light settings so you don’t get a rude awakening . My only gripe is that the selection of alarm noises are limited and some I don’t think would wake me at all. Would still recommend.

Got this for my granddaughter for Christmas and she loves it, Goes to sleep with the sound of waves or rain falling and Wakes up with the sun rising and birds singing, what more could you ask for.

I seldom use the noise part because it’s a bit jarring but I use the light constantly every evening and some mornings. It’s got a great tap-snooze feature for the light in alarm mode and the sunset mode allows me to get cosy before dropping off to sleep. I don’t hate waking up to it, it’s so gentle to be awoken by light rather than sound

I bought this to replace my long serving Lumie Sunrise lamp that went on the fritz lately. Once you’ve figured out how to operate this lamp it’s good. The sunrise / sunset function is especially nice as it goes from a nice orangy hue to bright white (or vice-versa).

It’s quite complicated to set up though, and you can’t change the wake-up alarm time without cycling through all the other wake-up settings (sunrise duration, sunrise brightness, alarm sound, volume etc) which invariably means disturbing my partner, who’s already drifting off by the time I remember to set my alarm.

Wake up sounds are nice. And being LED rather than halogen I know that it’s energy efficient and shouldn’t pop bulbs like my old Lumie lamp occasionally did.

I was uhming and ahhing for a very long time about whether I should get this but with the onset of the winter I finally decided to give in. To my surprise, this has been one of the best buys I have made, ever. I LOVE my bodyclock! Even my husband loves it haha. The only downside is that you have to set the alarm every evening, but other than that I cant fault it! The sunset feature has changed my bedtime routine and I honestly love waking up now. Would highly recommend

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got my clock yesterday, very happy I got this model. After scouring through reviews and questions for this and other models I found how to change the setting from 24 to 12 hour clock so the little am and pm on the face are displayed. Wanted to share for others looking for this:
A: To change your Bodyclock to 12 hour feature please follow the instructions below…
    1. Remove the power from the unit, and wait for the unit to power down completely (approximately 5-10 seconds)
    2. Press and hold the ALARM , MINUS and SUNSET keys simultaneously
    3. Whilst holding the three keys, apply power to the unit.
    4. Release the keys once the display shows four dash (-) characters
    5. A ’24’ or ’12’ should be displayed on the screen. Use the MINUS and PLUS keys to swap between the 12 and 24 hour modes. Press the centre CONFIRM key to accept your selection.
    6. The unit will reset and show the new chosen time format.

Great light – it helps me to get out of bed in the morning and I now couldn’t be without it. I really notice it’s missing when at a hotel.

Only criticism is that the buttons feel quite cheap and clunky.

I was using the bird song and light but now use the light only on a timer and continue to use my phone alarm.

This alarm clock, as advertised, does simulate a sunrise. The light slowly builds to be quite a nice brightness and is good for dark mornings. However, the build quality is very flimsy meaning that if you want to press any of the buttons you have to physically hold the alarm clock in place to avoid knocking it off the side, you also have to ensure when holding you don’t accidentally restart the alarm cycle by touching the top. The alarm sounds are very limited and seem more like sleep sounds so if you are looking for a sound alarm clock perhaps look elsewhere. As said, it is very lightweight (much more so that it looks in the picture) so moves too easily, I may have to try and stick it down with blue tack, not something I would expect at this price point. Love the sunrise element, everything else is a bit meh.

Works nut not sure would buy agai

Pros: Worth every penny, it has transformed my morning wake up. Waking up naturally from a ‘sunrise’ means I feel refreshed and energised in the mornings, despite it being dark outside.

Cons: wake up sounds are mediocre, a little fiddly to set up / change the settings and you have to remember to set the alarm every evening. But these aren’t significant issues.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis lamp is brilliant especially now the mornings are SO dark. I was terrible at getting up in the dark so this has really helped. The sundown feature is also really helpful for winding down.
The sound is a bit metallic and artificial so I don’t really use that but the lamp itself is great.

I love waking up to the sound of the birds (other sounds available) and going to sleep to the sound of crashing waves is my idea of heaven. I have the waves on the lowest sound possible and, personally, I think it is a little too loud, not for me, but for my guests when they stay. I think they can hear it too, although maybe this is a bonus. Nobody has complained, yet! I love this clock.

I bought a Lumie some years ago when they were a much cheaper product. It finally broke and needed an replacement. I liked the design so stuck with the brand, obviously they have gone up in price somewhat!! This version does exactly what you want a sunrise alarm clock to do and has more adjustments possible than you’ll likely need.

The only gripes I would have are (1) this version feels a bit plasticky given the price tag, the pictures do show that so it wasn’t a surprise and doesn’t really bother me personally; (2) it’s now an LED in a sealed unit that you are not allowed to change yourself which feels like built-in obsolescence – not a fan, I support right to repair (see Louis Rossman’s Youtube channel if you are interested).

Maybe it’s just me, but despite the brightness of the light and the alarm sound that can have a loud volume, I still struggle to open my eyes in the morning.

The light will often wake me up before the alarm goes off, but even with the gradual brightness increase I still find that opening my eyes is painful!

The alarm has varying light, sound and volume settings which are great, I particularly like the bird song for the morning.

I never personally use the sunset option as I clearly struggle more with being awake than going to sleep! lol!

The only thing I dislike about this alarm is having to reset it every day, as I have occasionally forgotten to do it. However, if you wake up at a different time each day (I have wfh time, office time, site visit time etc) then it’s really not a big deal as I’d have to keep changing the time anyway.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersI echo much of what Luke Holdstock has said in his comprehensive and informative review. That was in Dec 2018 so it shows how long this product has been around. Similarly, we had a Philips wake-up light which Amazon tells us we last purchased in Dec 2017 and that’s still the lead product in their line-up. So it seems that the product leaders haven’t revamped their product lines in some while. We explored the budget wake-up lamps and for us, Lumie seemed to be the most suitable choice.

The contents of the box are minimalist and the clock itself was smaller than I pictured. However, the size is perfect for our bedside table and any concerns about how well this could illuminate the room were soon dismissed. I like the aesthetic and it’s not heavy with it being plastic and probably very little in the way of internal parts. The price can vary on Amazon, deals are to be had which may make the outlay a little more bearable for what appears to be a simple plastic light.

I found setting the time and the sunrise alarm quite straightforward and only had to refer to the small paper manual to double-check the sounds I’d selected. We picked the blackbirds sound which is very pleasant and certainly better than the Philips Somneo.

Sunset was easy enough to set too. The first attempt didn’t seem to give us the 20 mins we’d selected but we had faffed about switching sunset off and on and then starting it on a very low lamp setting. It’s a nice feature and adds to the appeal. We have dispensed with our table lamp as this serves very well in that function and for reading too.

Now to the one major flaw that we’ve found. The circular display area is split horizontally. The LED time display sits in the middle, the LED function symbols sit in the top half and in the lower half are the buttons. These are not backlit and are only legible with the room light on. Without illumination from an exterior source then not only do the symbols on the buttons disappear but the outline and location of the buttons too. That is even with the Lumie at it’s highest brightness setting as the light doesn’t reach extend downwards towards the buttons. Switching the light on at night or switching the alarm off becomes complete guesswork and some fumbling about. It’s something that could be resolved by some luminescent paint, raised buttons or a simple low-luminescent LED backlight for the buttons.

I have added 3 pictures which may help to explain although the camera on my phone has compensated to some degree:

    1. The first shows the Lumie unlit but with main light on in the bedroom. As you can see the buttons aren’t particularly bright but with an external light source are at least legible.

    2. The second is with the all lights extinguished. This is where my camera has tried to bring out lit areas. In reality the buttons and their location is invisible. The time is legible (it auto dims so isn’t a distraction at night) and the symbols in the top half aren’t visible at all.

    3. The third is with the Lumie as the only light source and on its full brightness setting. This is where the camera does lie what with it’s advanced features. In reality the buttons are as invisible as is when the Lumie isn’t lit.

Maybe we need a more reflective bedside cabinet. For us, it limits the ease of use significantly. We’re going to see how we get on with this flaw. I am looking at some luminescent tape cut out to fit the buttons. I think that shows how much we value the functionality of the light, the sunrise and sunset process works really well and we’re hoping we find some way to mitigate the problem. I may even use my electronics experience to fashion backlighting for the buttons 🙂

A really good product and still a market for development, maybe we’ll see more from Lumie. If you are in the market for a wake-up light, particularly with these dark mornings then give this model serious consideration. If you’ve seen others then always look for reviews where people have lived with product, I find that guides you to a better informed decision.

Excellent wake-up light with a couple of flaws

I had to retire my previous light alarm clock because it developed an annoying background buzzing noise (it was quite cheap). It also had plenty of buttons around it which was a nuisance.

This alarm clock is intuitive and very clever. I like that I need to tap twice at night to see the time for a few seconds, that the time disappears in complete darkness (but there is a choice to have it on low), the brightness is good, the sounds are good, it looks nice, and it has no background noise.

I like that I need to press it every night to switch the alarm for the next day because this actually avoids a situation when I sleep in by getting me into the habit of checking every night. It’s obvious if it’s on as well because there is a small icon next to time.

It’s great, and so much cheaper than the other big brand whose design (at least for the alarm clock) doesn’t seem as clever.

First things first, I had a Lumie Sunrise Alarm, which is the cheapest wake-up light alarm you can get from Lumie, and it was good but not perfect. The light on the Alarm was bright if it was facing you, but it did not light up the whole room and to me it just wasn’t enough to wake me up! I reluctantly bought this alarm clock because of the how expensive it is, but the light was supposed to be brighter and I must say, it’s very good! My room has never been so bright on a morning, sometimes I think I’m on a holiday in the tropics, and I’m waking up a lot more refreshed and ready to take on the day! One negative is some of the sounds are not the best, apart from the blackbirds, which is the one I use anyway so it doesn’t affect me too much, but that could be something to bare in mind. The philosophy I always have is that you can’t put a price on a good night’s sleep, and this Alarm clock is definitely one of those gut-wrenching purchases at first when you see the price, but when you experience the benefits, it’s money well spent; especially on the dark mornings which are currently looming ever closer!!

Bought this roughly 1 year ago now and must say its a dream. I am no more a morning grump, the light wakes you up gently and it works everytime, sleeping in all weekend is a thing of the distant past. Also, it really helped lift my mood during the darker mornings and the sundown feature is brilliant for helping to drift off when wide awake at night. The only thing is I wish I bought the lumie with the radio. This lumie is great but I only use 2 of the sounds and really wish I paid that bit more for the radio feature.

Basically does what it says and it is a pretty good product. I knocked off a star because you have to press the button every night to set the alarm and because the only way to turn off the light is to hold the button for about 10 seconds which is annoying if you have to do it every morning. I would improve it by adding a button you can press and just turn the light off. I’ve been using it for about a year and I do think it’s a good alarm to wake up to. The sound quality is good but I would have preferred if you could make it a little bit quieter since the lowest volume is still quite loud and I’ve never turned it up higher than that.

Works really well for what it is intended. Certainly gives a much more relaxing wake up. Let’s the mobile be left out of the bedroom for a better quality rest. Great to help recover from work or sport. Light is bright for bedside and alarm sounds are loud enough if you didn’t already wake by the light. Looking at some of the negative reviews I’d say they aren’t really sure of how this product is intended to function. Part of the price is the quality of led light and graduation over time. It is a little light weight but found it really easy and logical to use.

I bought this in a moment of sheer desperation. During the pandemic and working from home, my sleep pattern had gone out of the window and I often found myself still awake at 7am having not yet slept. This clock helped me to move back to a natural sleep pattern and makes waking up a much more enjoyable experience than the multiple blaring alarms I used to have. If you kind of feel like you want to die in the mornings when you wake up, this one is for you.

Generally good but there’s a few bugbears that really niggle me:
    1. There is no straight up on off switch for the light. To turn the light on you have to press up the brightness until Max, opposite for off. Frustrating when you just want some light quickly, thus I find it can’t replace a bedside lamp so I now have two on the bedside table.
    2. You touch the lamp to snooze in the morning but this plunges you back into darkness. Sometimes you want 5 minutes in bed to wake up with the light in the background, not to go through the whole sunrise again. However snoozing is the only way to shut the birds up, so it’s either darkness and no sound or light and chirping birds. Consequently I’ve sacked off the bird noises so it’s just a lamp, could have saved money and bought the cheaper version.
    3. The snooze implies it’s touch sensitive but I don’t think it’s the usual electric circuit system as it’s not metal. This means that sometimes I touch it gently and it does nothing, yet at the same time it reacts if I dare to so much as nudge the table it’s sitting on, so I have to blearily pick up my phone with care, lest it decide I need another snooze.

Other than that though, I like it. Looks okay and it’s plenty bright enough to actually make a difference to how wakeful I feel in the morning. It really is a life saver for me in the winter months.

My advice would be to go for the one without noises (and use a separate alarm) if you like to snooze, otherwise it’s great.

During the dark mornings I was finding it hard to wake up with my old alarm clock. I saw this and thought I’d give it a try and I’m so pleased I did. It’s lovely to go to sleep and wake up with. Even though I’ve got a sound for the alarm, the light gently wakes me up before the alarm sound starts. I’ve got the sound on the quietest setting and if it were to go off, it’s bird song. Its also nice to go to sleep too because the light can start fully bright and after 20 minutes ( the shortest setting ) it slowly turns to a dull red glow before going off. I’ve been telling all my friends how good this is. If you’re like me and find it difficult getting up on a morning, buy this.

I am really loving the clock. I wake up less groggy. I feel better about the day ahead. At its brightest it has a cheerful sunshine tone. The sunset colours are relaxing and comforting. It’s not a chic bedside table item but it’s got a nice build quality and is unobtrusive. Only drawback is that when you reset the alarm you get a bit blinded by the bright light. I try to remember to make any changes in the daytime. A bit tricky to get to know how to set. But doable and have now learned how to do it. Love it.

Overall great product! Love the sunset feature when going to sleep. Often the light alone does wake me up. I like the choice between 20/30/45 min sunrise/sunset.
    Only two issues.
Firstly it’s not heavy enough. Pushing the buttons on the front often moves the clock rather than actually clicking the button. This can be solved by putting the clock up against something.
Secondly the sounds. While there is a great choice of sounds, they come on loudly and suddenly even on the lowest volume. Seems an oversight on a product focused on waking you up gently. Would be better if the sound turned up gradually.

It was much easier to set up than I expected (based on a few reviews I’d read I thought it would be more complex- it really isn’t). It usually does take the gentle audio alarm to wake me up As well as the light but I’ve found I don’t snooze as much and I’m more adjusted to the light as I wake up. The sunset feature is a nice way to unwind, but I still have to turn the low light off to sleep.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis lamp is great for both settling down to sleep, and waking up a bit more gently in the morning. I haven’t used the sounds with it because I find them more annoying than anything, and you can’t snooze the sounds of the wake up alarm without also snoozing the light too, plunging you back into total darkness rather than the brightness you’ve gently worked up to over half an hour (or whatever length of wake up you’ve set).

Overall, I love it, though there’s a slight electrical hiss/hum off it which I know would be excessive for those more sensitive to that noise.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI love this clock. I love setting the night time sunset feature and see it changing through from bright to red and the sound of crickets on low is a nice touch . I don’t usually fall asleep whilst it’s on but feel relaxed & ready to drop off soon after it’s finished. It’s easy to set/change the alarm times each night. I don’t forget as I do it before I set the nightlight feature. Once you know how to do it it’s fine. Back up battery when electric goes off so you don’t lose the time. I find the time on the clock is ok to leave on during the night as I like to see what time it is when I wake. I haven’t tried the light to wake me in the morning as it’s summer and already light, but I use the alarm sounds to wake me and they do.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI’ve had this for a few months and I got it in the winter when I couldn’t get out of bed as easily anymore.

I really like the sunset effect!
Even with the light coming from the screen watching something on my laptop, this sunset effect really helps me unwind.

This alarm clock has been like a crutch to me in the winter months because it has helped waking me up on days I’d normally wanna call in sick (all winter days where it’s pitch black when you gotta wake up).

I find it works better with low volume or without the sounds – the sounds are quite annoying (but then again, sometimes you need sound to wake up).
I use my alarm on my phone as well but I let the light come on fully before my alarm rings.

I like that you can snooze the light haha! It’s the cosiest thing being able to just tap that bright light away and get another “sunrise”!

I like that the time isn’t always showing – brilliant!
I don’t know how it works but it kinda just shows me the time when I need to know what time it is. I feel this reduces stress when trying to sleep.

It’s really helped me and I feel it’s been worth the money.

Golden Review Award: 299 From Our UsersI bought this clock with some money I got at Christmas and I have to say that I am very impressed with it.

    First Impressions:
You don’t get much in the box apart from the clock itself, the manual and the power cable. I have to say that it was a lot smaller than I was expecting which is a good thing actually as I thought it would take up a lot of room on my already crowded nightstand. Looking at the unit itself, it is made entirely of plastic (a lot have people have said it feels cheap and I would be inclined to agree considering the price I paid) and is very light in the hands. I find the design itself to be quite appealing, contrary to other reviews – I like the satin/matt finish on the top half as it diffuses the light nicely. Underneath is home to the power connector and a switch that gives you the option to have the display completely off or dimmed when the unit senses low light conditions. If you choose to have the display off, you can simply tap the top of the clock to awaken the display.

    Powering Up:
With the unit atop of my bedside table, it was time to power it up. When you first connect the device to the mains, you will be greeted with flashing numbers for you to set the time (be aware that there is also a 7:00am alarm preset too so you’re going to want to set up that too). The display itself is entirely LED that glows a nice, modern white and is nice and easy to read. Setting the time is fairly straight forward if you follow the instructions.

One thing that does bother me though is the time is only displayed in 24 hour format, and there is no way to change it to 12 hour even though above the time display there is quite clearly an AM and PM indicator. Strange.

    Setting the Alarm:
At this point, things do get a little complicated as there are lots of settings you have to go through in order to get the alarm right. Actually accessing the alarm setting is done by pressing and holding the alarm button. From there, you are greeted by a nice gentle glow of the lamp as you set the time before you move onto setting the sunrise intensity (which I would advise you doing with sunglasses as the light suddenly goes from it’s nice, warm glow to it’s maximum intensity). If you still have vision after that stage you’re then able to set the duration that the alarm kicks in at (either 20, 30 or 45 minutes). After that, you’re then able to set your wakeup sound of which there are nine (ten if you include the beep) to choose from. These are:

    – Alarm Beep (which is actually quite a soft beep that’s quite pleasing to the ear)
    – Tropical Birds (my personal favourite to go to sleep to)
    – Blackbirds (my personal favourite to wake up to)
    – Cafe Ambience
    – Goats (?)
    – Steam Train
    – Thunderstorm
    – Waves
    – Crickets
    – White Noise

The instruction booklet has mixed up the numbers to the corresponding sound but don’t worry as you get to sample each sound as you scroll through.

From there, you then choose the volume you want the alarm to play at and then you’re done! Your light alarm will kick in either 20, 30 or 45 (depending on what you’ve set it for) minutes before you’re due to get up, moving from a dark red, to a warm orange and finishing with a blindingly white light and your chosen sound at the time you’ve set your alarm for. I was under the illusion that the sounds slowly fade in with the light, but that is not the case although it would be nice if it did.

It is worth mentioning that there is only ONE alarm on this model so you will need to set it each night if you have varying wake up times.

    Setting the Sunset
This is my favourite feature on the clock – the sunset feature. This allows you to fall asleep to a fading sunset which Lumie says “helps you unwind naturally by promoting the production of the sleep hormone, melatonin”.

Setting the sunset function is similar to the alarm procedure where you push and hold the sunset button to access the settings. From there, you set the duration of the sunset (once again, either 20, 30 or 45 minutes), the light setting you want the clock to be at when it finishes the sunset routine (I usually have it fade to off but is useful if you like to sleep with a nightlight), the sleep sound (choosing from the list above) and the volume. When you’re ready to go to sleep, you simply switch on the light by pushing the + button and set it to an intensity you’re comfortable with before pushing the sunset button. From there, the light will gradually fade down to the brightness you set in the settings whilst you listen to soothing sounds. At the end of the routine, the sound stops, which for me, is rather abrupt – it would have been nice if this could be faded out too.

    Sound Quality
It is important to note that this unit does not have a radio, nor bluetooth connectivity. The speakers are there purely to produce the inbuilt sounds. Taking this into consideration, I was actually quite surprised at how well they performed. Obviously, they are not going to be studio grade quality speakers but they get the job done quite nicely. I will say that the lower frequency sounds (such as the thunder) don’t have as much clarity as the higher frequency sounds (such as the birds) but they are by no means the worst. If sound quality is important to you however, I’d perhaps look at the slightly more expensive Bodyclock Shine 300 where it has a radio and an extra five inbuilt sounds to choose from.

So that’s all there is to it really. Overall, I’m quite impressed – I love the sunset feature and the alarm is pleasant to wake up to. That said, it’s not without its faults. It would have been nice to have the option to fade sounds in and out and not just have them start and stop abruptly. It also would be beneficial to have the intensity setting of the wakeup light start off at zero in the settings instead of its maximum setting as to not blind people who have only just remembered to set the alarm after getting cozy in bed. So overall, 4 out of 5 stars from me.

    PROS:
Good quality light – very vibrant with stunning oranges and reds. Also very smooth fading.
    Stylish design
    Small
    Display dims automatically

    CONS:
Build quality is a little lack lustre considering the price tag
Sound is okay but could be better
Settings need to be improved as to not blind people with bright lighting
More flexibility with how sounds start and finish
Only displays 24 hour time (even though there are AM and PM indicators)

Great Clock Although Not Without It's Faults
