Easy!
My offline storage price was going to quadruple do I got a SanDisk which cost less than two years storage with my old company and I have it for ever ( I hope)
Great value
I have 3 of these bought at different times and they all perform the same. They test quite a bit faster than advertised in my experience so at 100 for 2tb they are great value
Nice and compac
Smaller and thinner than I was expecting. Very light and reasonable speed response when in use.
Not tested the 2m drop claim but looks like it would happily cope with being knocked off a desk.
Fast transfers of files. Well made and feels nice in my hands. I have the 500GB one and is enough for my music (FLAC) over 300 abums with a lot of storage left.
I edit video across different PCs so it’s always handy to have my footage on a portable drive when central servers aren’t an option. This provides plenty of performance to be able to edit 4k footage and the file transfer speeds are outstanding. Put it this way, when I fill up this drive I’ll be buying another one.
I have Samsung t5 and t7 ssds, which are themselves brilliant, but this Sandisk version is fantastic; small & neat, very very fast. Yes it is a bit expensive, and hopefully it will last a long time (I have a Samsung t5 1Tb for 5 years no problem so far). I think it is worth the money. Password-protect very easy to use and sensible.
It works, as I’ve tried several before getting one… l purchased this to work with my cars “Dashcam”… It’s a C class 300… this for any other drivers looking for more space to record and an actual drive that works… Works for myself…
This is a great little storage unit, bought the fastest transfer rate model as I need direct transfer for AV materials on my 512GB Mac Mini. I’ve set the computer up with barebones (OS & apps) install, and all my resources on the SSD. So far I have had zero issues transferring resources to work directly within the apps. Turns a small capacity main machine into a beast, with the added bonus of portability for use with a laptop, so you can continue your projects while on the move. If I could justify money I would have gone for the 4TB.
Smaller and lighter than i expected which is a plus. Fits in your trouser pocket easily and is a great memory size to store whatever you need.
Cable is a but small for dangling of edge of iPad when watching films but since the SSD is so light, theres no strain on the socke
Bought the 2tb version of this SanDisk portable SSD and it is perfect for storing all our photos and videos from travelling. It can be easily connected straight to your phone to add or remove photos and videos. Its so small and lightweight making it easy to bring it with you wherever you go. The price is extremely competitive making this great value for money!
Great, although I wish there was a way to magnetically stick it to my laptop 🙂
If you use a Mac reformat this to HSFS, as that will avoid some of the risks when unplugging the drive. I did trash mine by unplugging carelessly
Gone are the days of waiting hours for slow transfers. An SSD drive is one of the fastest for large file transfer. The Sandisk extreme portable SSD is smaller than my iPhone and fits into the palm of my hand.
It is lightweight compared to my Western drive, and feels rugged to take everywhere with me. Comes with additional adaptors to use the traditional USB A ports but I highly recommend using the USB C.
Bought this to use pretty much exclusively for my iPad Pro to store photo and video from my Apple Photos library from an ongoing home renovation project & edit video from it in Lumafusion. It’s literally the definition of plug and play, and compact enough to fit in my pockets when out and about anywhere if working on it out of the house. Would happily buy another in future to expand storage for any of my devices.
I have two of these SSD’s that I carry with me everywhere and use them to back up my photos and laptop. When I get home I just plug them into my NAS and download images straight to my storage.
On their own they are pretty tough – I have occasionally dropped them with no ill effect. Protected in the small dedicated case, they would have to be trampled by an elephant to break. A bit pricey, but worth it!
On three operating systems (Mac, Linux Debian, Windows 10) I have had the same problem. I run an experiment and capture approximately 20Gb->300Gb of data in RAM and then offload it via USB3 to the SanDisk device – I get around 200M bytes/s – not blistering, but fast enough. The problem comes when I have another large file to write, the card just has zero bytes transfer. It sits there for a couple of minutes and then resumes. The files are written correctly, the CRC of the original and copy are the same. It does get very hot, even when idle, much hotter when writing, perhaps it is a thermal problem?
What an amazing little SSD HD
This SSD is perfect for travelling and moving around as it’s so small yet powerful to hold your videos and photos. I use mine with a Satechi high speed cable as well to make moving items/editing faster.
Really nice small hard drive however I have notice it does lag a bit going between folders, not all the time, thought ssd was meant to quicker than hdd but I’m not sure it is.
As a photographer, I need plenty of storage. This is a small and portable device that I can carry with me anywhere. It has extremely fast transfer speed which saves me a lot of time. I have been using Sandisk for years and I have quite a few of their products. They have been completely reliable and durable. Highly recommended and worth every penny!
This is my second drive; having upgraded from various smaller capacity m.2 drives in enclosures. I loved the first so much that I purchased a second as a data backup.
Small enough to be ultra portable, with enough capacity to hold large art and music projects. The speed is such that I can run vst instrument libraries/audio projects from it should I wish.
Great fit and finish, this feels like a quality product- the inclusion of both usbc-c and usba-c cables is a nice touch.
Highly recommended
The drive has a security feature by Sandisk which requires a password to unlock the drive, this is a good feature to have but the password box enters white text on a white background which makes it very annoying to use, error handling is terrible also.
It’s a shame because the physical device and performance is great, but they’ve shot themselves in the foot for a great all round product because the software part is annoying to use and makes the experience annoying.
Great produc
Very easy to use, good price. Top bit of kit.
Great brand. Great product.
Always use Sandisk memory cards and this was on offer so made perfect sense to use their SSD too.
Super fast and easy to use
I’d previously purchased a cheaper SSD with very disappointing results. Very hit and miss loading and very slow file transfer. But with this sandisc SSD it’s incredibly easy to use and easy file uploading. I can highly recommend this product.
Excellent SSD’s
Brilliant! I’ve got about 20 of them now. Never once had an issue or failure!
Highly recommended.
Fast, rugged, sleek looking
What’s not to like? Works well with my Mac. Use it to manage and backup my Mac Photo Library. Speed is excellent. It does get warm under load, but that’s to be expected. Wish the provided cable was slightly longer, but that’s being petty.
I was a little worried given this did seem to be a little cheap and then I remembered that before Christmas the 1TB version was about 85 so this was maybe a good price point. It certainly does what I need it but truth will be in the pudding as I am planning on using it for DJing this very night of writing this review! It works fine in my Pioneer equipment so here’s hoping it does on some other different Pioneer equipme
A speedy, compact and good value SSD
Bought this SanDisk 1Tb SSD to store all my lossless music files to stream to my hifi via USB. It’s perfect for the job, being compact and silent in operation, and good value too. It also seems robust, so if I needed an SSD to use as portable storage with a laptop, I would happily use it.
This is a first class storage drive, 1 Terabyte of space with very fast transfer speeds. Well built and comes with USB2 and USBC connectors. I would certainly advise purchasing this one.
The form factor of this is perfect, light and small and very easy to keep connected to a laptop or iPad . I transferred 6gb of files in about 10 secs which I thought was pretty quick. Comes with a nice short c-c data cable and an extra USB A to c adaptor if you need to plug it into USB A. Suspect I will end up getting more of these .
Nothing much to say, 4TB SSD as advertised. Insane read/write speeds. Workflow and media consumption has increased.
Only issue I can say is it overheats, 1050m/s model – perhaps due to it’s plastic like case, which dissipates it quite poorly. So be careful as it get quite hot to the touch.
I’m very impressed with this. It’s smaller than I thought it would be which for taking out and about is really good. Plugged it straight into my MacBook and transferred many photos and it was so fast. Great piece of equipment!
I got this portable ssd for uni works and storing video clips for editing. So far so good. I found it quite smaller than i thought of the photos online. But you know it is not like i get biggrr storage if it was actually bigger or same aa the photo. So i dont think it is a minus point.
I would say this is a
Cute tiny but strong ssd for someone who needs extra storage space..
Using a new Microsoft surface tablet, decided it was better value to go for a portable drive than pay the excessive Microsoft cost of a larger internal disk. For convivence have used some Removable 2mm Reusable Clear double side Nano Tape to attach the disk to the back of the tablet, the short, supplied USB C cable then just plugs in. Works perfectly!
The device gives plenty of space, is fast and of course being SSD, silent.
The drive was also on offer which made the purchase even more attractive at 168 .
Would I buy again – Yes.
Looks good, light and just what was required
Just as described feels like real quality in the had, had some weight and feels tough
Fast, small and robus
Great product, simply works as it should. fast. Very tough, i have accidentally knocked it a few times with no problems at all.
Best SSD ever. Amazing performance. Compact and light with space and oomph.
This SSD is pretty amazing. I had the previous generation 500GB Sandisk version, which is surprisingly twice as big. So this drive is half as small AND twice the capacity HALF the weight. This drive is tiny and light. So what prompted me to write a review is this experience. I have found that when using Android file transfer on my aging MBP 2013 to clear my phone device memory ie. photos and video clips from phone to hard drive this is normally a very slow and tricky process. Only upon introducing an SSD, the aforementioned 500gb drive, did the process become easier to manage and I did not experience the app crashing every other attempt. In fact before my process was to copy the files in batches no bigger than 500mb at a time. You can just imagine how long it will take to copy 55.89 GB at this rate!! It is a real pain. Virtually impossible without an SSD. On to the AMAZING part of my review. Well I have just copied 55.89GB of data from my Android phone TO this SSD drive in ONE drag and drop and taking just 30 to 35 or so minutes to complete. The data rate was phenomenal, the numbers and megabytes were absolutely crazy, running almost akin PER SECOND to the rate at which Jeff Bezos makes on this website. I can only imagine how useful this will be when I start editing 4k video or something that needs this level of performance. I am likely to buy another drive very soon! No regrets for me.
Came recommended and I was happy.
A friend had this and just before a project recommended it so I got one, and I currently am editing a project from it. So small and handy. I chose the slower speed and haven’t had any issues with speed at all.
Quick, and not just for short bursts
I use this as a backup disk for my MacBook Pro. Backups that used to take over an hour with a mechanical external drive now take less than 15 minutes.
Best purchase of the yea
Have been dying to get one.
So slim and efficient and has password too
Extended Laptop battery life
Odd claim I know but I’ve often used my macbook with an external HDD plugged in which I work from. So not only is the SSD significantly smaller profile more travel friendly than a HDD. It’s faster so my video workflow has sped up considerably since using the SSD. Also very energy efficient it’s pulling less power from my Mac then my previous drive so I’ve longer life from laptop battery when working with this drive over the other. Well worth the purchase especially in the saleS
Not bad at all
+ Super lightweight
+ Does what it’s advertised to do without any hiccups.
– Full plastic build. It’s sturdy but would be nice to see metal casing.
Brilliant except it’s more 3.5T not 4T
The size of this surprised me. It’s smaller than my iPhone XS and lighter then every external I’ve purchased before. The box comes with a usb adapter so you don’t have to worry about not having a USB slot.
The size of the system annoyed me a little because the capacity it comes with is 3.63TB I was expecting closer to 4T, maybe not exact but close enough to it.
The cable it comes with is incredibly short so if you need it to reach a distance that’s longer than your finger, I’d buy a separate longer cable.
Formatting SSD
Need to format the SSD first so that the cluster allocation unit can be minimized.
Fast to transfer files
That’s the best drive to save my files and work with. Besides this, it’s small and easy to carry.
Admittedly the size for the 1tb SSD drive was really smaller than anticipated, in a good way.
Everything about it is great, size physically and storage-wise, being able to transfer and backup everything I have on an old laptop.
NOTE: One thing though, it will ONLY transfer as fast as the system it’s transferring DATA from.
So far, so excelle
Have been editing 4k videos via Adobe Premiere and After Effects both on my desktop (via USB 3.0) and from my laptop (USBC), cannot fault it at all in these past 6 months, working well with minimal to no lag at all.
Perfect little portable SSD
Very portable and really fast read and write speeds. Yea you can probably get cheaper however I’m really happy with it. Feels well made and like it would take a few bumps (wouldn’t go throwing it down the stairs though..)
Best drive I’ve ever owned
A bit on the pricey side but being a photographer and videographer I needed a hard drive with fast read and write speeds to work efficient. This gives out the speeds it says on the box and I can’t fault this at all
Great fast drive
I wanted a fast usb drive to run linux from. So speed was highest prioriy. This is perfect very fast also lots of storage. Allows the computer to boot fast over usb 3. Perfect for what I wanted. Only concern is as it is being used with usb-c connector. Not quite as robust as the old usb-a connectors. But thats not an issue with the drive.
Firstly it works straight out of the box using ExFat, no formatting was required. I wanted to back-up a 700GB photos library on my MacBook Pro and I opted for this 2TB SSD external hard drive. Simply plug in using the supplied USB-C cable, drag and drop the library and that was it. It took about 90 minutes to transfer all 700GB’s, some 80,000 photos.
The drive itself is small (100 x 50 x 8 mm), lightweight, highly portable but has a feeling of quality about it. I have to say that the whole process was trouble free and dare I say easy to complete. I am really pleased with this purchase.
Edit – If you want to format the drive for Mac using APFS OR Mac OS Extended simply plug the drive in to your computer and select Disk Utility. Click erase and the format you require and you’re done.
The first one I got arrived looking fine, but after writing to it for a little bit of time the front popped off around the bottom of the casing between the front pannel and the rubber bumper. (See picture). You could see the inside of it quite clearly if you didn’t press it back into place, but it’d pop again after a few minutes, slowly opening up again. After describing this fault to Amazon, they issued a replacement and I sent this one back – after wiping it completely. I put it down to being a defective unit. Does happen sometimes, nothing is perfect.
The replacement arrived and I started playing around with it.
It came formatted with ExFAT, as well, so be aware, if your device doesn’t support ExFAT, you just need to format it to something that can read it.
I got speeds faster than advertised, 1086MBps read (vs 1050MBps advertised) and 1038MBps write (vs 1000MBps advertised).
There was 1.81TiB of usable space on the 2TB version I purchased, which is absolutely expected and not false advertising as some of the comments suggest. (A quick note to those people, a TB is not the same as a TiB. The 2TB version is 2TB, which is ~1.81TiB, what it shows in the OS, albeit falsely labeled in Windows).
The leaflet suggests I can update the firmware on it, and should do that when I get it, however I am unable to find anything on the website about this and I assume it should be fine. It says it has hardware encryption capabilities, which uses the software provided but I never trust that stuff. I just formatted it to EXT4 in Linux (My OS of choice) and used Veracrypt, which you can use in Windows (and MacOS, I think), to encrypt my drive with FDE (Full Disk Encryption).
The drive is extremely responsive and I was able to fill it up with my files, and was able to read them all afterwards. It should be noted that whilst the first one got hot during operations, the second one seemed to run quite cool. I’m not sure why this is and I’m not going to complain either.
It seems to be quite solidly built and I do recommend it if you want to store lots of things, but it may be more expensive than a hard drive or the equivalent in M.2/NVMe. I got mine during Prime Day so it was quite cheap.
All in all I highly recommend it. It’s a solid drive and time will tell if it’s reliable. I will update this after a year or so.
My main reason for buying this 1TB ssd was for when I travel and and have lots of camera footage to backup from my shoots.
Portability was a big factor, and hoping it would work with iphone (since there isn’t a lot of info on it)
The ssd itself works well however max transfer speed I’ve seen so far is approx 270 MB/S on magicbook pro using default hardware, nonetheless faster than my other HDD’s. I have noticed it heat up a lot in use, more than the 500gb version. In terms of wire / usb-c port connection, it feels a little flimsy and weak. The ssd has a front patterned surface and a rubber back both of which seem to attract dust.
Now onto iphone connection…I have tried both the 1TB and 500GB versions (with the supplied usb-c to usb adapter), both work with iphone (12 mini) via a genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter (make sure adapter is original as fake / defective wires have given me an unpredictable intermittent connection). In my experience the 1TB ssd loaded faster than 500GB on iphone.
Now Iphone allows you to view ssd contents BUT as soon you start saving iphone files onto it or tinkering with the ssd’s data you get the infamous ‘This accessory requires too much power’ sign. Even if you re-connect the ssd, once the sign appears once it keeps coming back. What worked to reverse it for me was actually connecting it to a laptop and deleting the iphone files saved on the ssd or the folders where data was altered. Another option is to scan for errors (whilst plugged into the computer), even if there are no errors I found that often the ssd starts working without needing ‘extra power’. Another option to try, this has given mixed results tbh is to connect the ssd to iphone whilst it is switched off then turn it back on and see if the sign reappears.
If you definitely want 2-way iphone-ssd use then you will need a power hub to power the hardrive (and also bypass the ‘…requires too much power’ message, or if none of the above options work to get rid of the message). I bought the ‘…RSHTECH 5 Port USB 3 Hub with 4 USB 3.0 Data Port + 1 Fast Charging Port Portable USB Splitter with 12V/2A…’ because it provided more power i.e 24W compared to similarly priced 5-port power hubs – so far so good! As a bonus iphone was able to read both ssds (1TB + 500gb) at once when plugged into the power hub.
In terms of folder load time there was no difference for me using a power hub vs none. I didn’t notice a difference in performance or predictability between an old iphone lightning cable vs latest lightning to usb-c cable. I have tried iphone (with ssd connected) plugged into a usb wall socket vs plugged into an apple 30w adapter, again no obv difference.
Another point to mention, with big folders around 90gb (raw files/4k videos) my iphone struggled to read the content despite loading for 20+ mins? The successful cut off for me has been around 65gb folder size max, anything larger definitely gets divided into smaller folders. I did notice some large 4k videos load slowly and freeze midway, but the ssd did let me save them directly on my iphone despite this so was able to view them better that way.
My Sandisk ssd-iphone experience so far (in summary):
Option 1 – viewing/saving ssd content on iphone -> no power hub required
Option 2 – deleting/altering ssd content and/or saving iphone content onto ssd -> power hub required
Hope that helps, I struggled A LOT to find info on iphone sandisk ssd connection so thought I’d share all of my recent findings.
On a sep note – the ssds worked absolutely fine with ipad Air 4th gen utilising it’s usb-c port so no adapter required. Literally a case of plug and play – and definitely a lot faster than on iphone.
