Bought this in January but didn’t pot up until Mid March. Read instructions clearly and then placed container on a South facing windowsill. I covered container with cling film to ensure warmth and removed once i saw the seedling grow about 1/2 inch. The seedlings are now about 2 to 3 inches tall and growing well. I’ll possibly transfer each seedlings to a 3 inch pot soon to ensure they get their own growing space. If you’re an amateur like me give it a go and hopefully I’ll have a nice show of summer flowers

I ordered this for my niece whose parents have just got an allotment so I thought it would be a nice thing for her to do. I already have some of the Clever Pots and they’re really nice – not brittle or plasticky (although they are plastic) and the method of pushing out the root ball is particularly useful for seedlings. It was well received and has hit the mark!

Unfortunately I got this at the wrong time of year for planting, but looking forward to getting them started early next year.

This is a great present / stocking filler for the keen gardener. Box comes with pots, packs of seeds AND the soil. Brilliant. Great for all ages. Simply place pot on flat surface. Get the ‘flat packed’ soil and place this in water for a little while. This bits brilliant as it expands as it soaks the water up. Once the soil has expanded and dried out, place into pot, add your choice of seed, water and wait. Love this.

This is really great for beginners or those even with not so much space or are wanting something not too complicated to begin growing with. The pack comes with everything you need from seeds to instructions. It is also a great activity for kids to learn how to grow and then also learn some responsibility by looking after them too.

A nice looking gardeners’ gift made up of a large plastic plant pot with a brightly coloured packing that displays lovely flowers.

The kit includes the pot, instructions (stuck onto the packing so make sure you don’t discard them!), compost and a coir block. Oh, and petunia seeds. Everything looks to be reasonable quality.

This looks good although the flowers won’t arrive until next year. Still makes a nice gift that I would be happy to receive.

This would make a great gift for children or for novice gardeners who want to try their hand at growing edible plants at home without having to spend a lot of money.

The pots themselves are very easy to use and come with the seeds and the coir planting material that you would need to plant them.

Obviously this is just a starter kit, and once the vegetables started to grow you would need to repot the items into to larger pots or grow bags, I don’t think these are really suitable to use for the entire growing cycle. It is however a lovely idea that you could grow your own lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and rocket for your summer salads from this small box.

I can certainly see this box, and the other boxes in the same range, being excellent Christmas present ideas for a young gardener or someone just starting out in gardening, perhaps just with window boxes. For the more experienced gardener, this wouldn’t be very interesting, but I am certainly looking forward to trying my hand at growing some salad vegetables next spring.

This is a great little set and perfect for starting out.

It comes with seedlings and pots, which are on my sons window sill; which he waters.

It’s a great hobby for children and I wholeheartedly recommend to parents out there.

    Excellent value.

Nice little kit for beginners like me or for children to have a go and get stuck in. There is everything you need to get started with and clear and straightforward instructions. Haven’t used the kits yet as not due to begin sowing until Jan-May time but seems like there should be no issues in the future. For the current selling price of 6, it’s worth giving a go, even if like me, you aren’t very green fingered! I’ll update review if any issues but from what I can see, this is a great little starter kit.

Although this was smaller than I thought it would be, it would still make a lovely introduction to looking after a living plant to a child taking interest in gardening.
Inside the pack, there were seeds, a block of growing material, the container they came in, instructions and of course the seeds.
It isn’t something I want to grow I doors so it will have to wait now for the spring. I have a lovely balcony that this would look great on.
What I liked was that everything, except water and a small trowel came in this pack.

I got this as a little learning and bonding exercise for me and my daughter to do together. I love that it comes with everything you need, and it took little effort at all.

    Pros:
    * Comes with everything supplied (soil, seeds, pot and coir block)
    * Easy to follow instructions
    * Great activity for children (supervised)
    * Good sized pot (20cm)

    Cons:
    * None (so far)

I’ll update my review once the flowers have actually grown, as we’ve got so far as to plant the seeds and cover them.. So it’s a waiting game now!

The kit literally arrives really simply: a nice basic grey 20cm pot with everything you need inside including instructions, wrapped in a cardboard cover.

I want to keep doing outdoorsy and creative things with my toddler, to get her hands dirty and also to just teach her about life. It’s really useful this comes with literally everything you need.

I’d never used a coir block before, so I followed the instructions to a tee: I popped it in a container, added water and watched it grow to an absolutely ridiculous size in the hour we waited. How amazing!

We then mixed this with the provided soil (a great job for mummy and daughter), watered it together and then added the seeds, turfing soil over them so they are just under the surface.

I’ve popped the pot on a plate for now and clingfilmed over the top (rather than using a bag) so I’m hoping it will work! We’re keeping it in our conservatory as technically it’s the wrong season, but am hoping with the right temperature and water we’ll start seeing results very soon.

Either way though, whilst we wait for our flowers to come up, it’s an excellent thing to do with your child. I can’t believe what good value it is, and I love that I can keep checking in on it and we did the whole process together and I can keep getting my daughter to water it.

Definitely recommend this as a gift or for yourself as an activity to do with a little one. Great way to tap into and connect to nature, and fingers crossed we’ll get some beautiful flowers at the end of it.

Lovely nature activity to do with a little one

This kit is a really simple little set, currently retailing at 6.00. It contains a small-medium sized plastic planter, some dehydrated soil / soil and a small pack of petunia seeds.

It’s a bit early to start growing these now, but the seeds come in see-through packaging. I do feel they should come in something else, as light can affect the seeds.

This would make a nice stocking filler or token gift. It’s very easy to do. There are more seeds than this pot could accommodate in plants, but I think this is to make sure there are enough to successfully germinate.

As my partner gets closer to retirement she is starting to worry a little about finding things to occupy the additional available time and is casting around looking for hobbies to trial. One she used to enjoy years ago when she had more free time was gardening, and this has recently been mooted as something she would like to recommence. Not for her growing flowers however, she wants to try fruit and vegetables having already had a go at herbs. Her reasoning is sound — there’s a satisfaction to be gained from eating produce you’ve grown yourself, as well as savings to be made at the local supermarket, which given the rapidly rising cost of produce is something I support. I spotted this Clever Pots Grow Your Own Edibles Kit when offered for review under the Amazon Vine programme, and thought it would be a good addition to supporting her ambition in a modest way given it has all the appearance of a starter kit for beginners, which is exactly where she is at to see if this is really a hobby she will take to again.

The set includes everything you need to grow one fruit and four vegetables: Strawberry, Peas, Broad Beans, Sweetcorn, and Brussels sprouts. Each respective set of seeds is sealed in a clear plastic bag rather than a seed packet with information about the variety and planting instructions, something I found strange. Rather there is an instruction leaflet. The one advantage is you can see just how different the seeds are, from tiny black specs to quite large — I’d judge half the size of a garden pea. Also contained is a set of five fairly small terracotta coloured plastic pots, and a block of coir planting material which is sufficient to fill the pots. The base of each pot will push in, allowing the coir block with the grown plant to be removed as a single piece rather than having to dig around and potentially damage the plant, which I thought was quite a neat idea. Whilst the set I orders features edibles there are other kits available in the series containing salads, herbs and peppers. The size means that the pots will sit fairly unobtrusively on a windowsill if you haven’t much space or are a flat dweller, which is a nice consideration, although we already have an area of the back garden ring fenced for outdoor planting.

Reading the instructions it is apparent that receiving the set in October it isn’t ready for immediate planting — unless you have a heated greenhouse and protection against winter frost they are due for planting around March. This is a shame as my partner wanted to get ‘stuck in’ and couldn’t. Nevertheless this is quite a nice set. Ideal for a beginner, someone with limited growing space, or a child with a developing interest in nature, at 6 this offers good value for money. I’m certainly looking forward to trying the strawberries, something I have fond memories of my grandmother growing in her back garden for years.

I’m a gardener, and my daughter has recently got the bug too.
I ordered this set for her to use next spring but it’s so good I might keep it for myself. Bad mother.

This is a nicely presented little set and would make a great present (if you can part with it). It’s definitely not just for children either.
The contents are exactly as shown in the listing photos.

I haven’t used the easy release pots before and I’ll be ordering some more for myself, they’re so useful. I have damaged hands so i think they will make a genuine difference, and i think anyone, bad hands or not, would find them interesting to try.

There’s not quite enough of the compacted compost. I don’t plan to sow the seeds until spring, but soaked the compost to see if there was sufficient. Personally I’d mix it with a generous handful of ordinary potting compost to bulk it out.
Other than that I don’t have any complaints.

Thanks for reading, I hope you find this review helpful.

This petunia growing kit provides almost everything needed to grow flowers. The set includes the pot, the seeds and the soil to grow the flowers in as well as the material to plant seeds into. All is well packed and arrived intact.

The two things that were missing were the instructions manual and a plate to keep the pot on. Without the manual, I had to plant the seeds a bit blindly and without the plate, the pot would be leaking every time I water seeds and plants. Therefore, I give this product 4 stars.

  24. John Saunders says:

This is a fun almost-all-in-one pack and would make a great gift for any budding gardeners. I got this to do with my daughter who enjoys nature and we plan to grow (or attempt to grow) these when the timing is right.

Pots, Coir, and little bags of seeds are included so that you can attempt to grow your own produce. The only thing missing is a trough to soak the coir and start the seeds off and then some soil for when your transplant the seedlings.

The instructions are clear enough and though you probably can get plenty more seeds for proportionally less money, this for the beginner or those just wanting to have a go at growing their own, is a good set.

A review from the wife… This is a nice compact petunia growing kit. The grey pot looks good and is of good quality. The kit comes with coir, soil and seeds. There are clear instructions for how to use everything. The recommended planting time is from February so cannot comment yet on the quality of the seeds. As a gift item, this is a lovely idea and is very reasonably priced. I would recommend this!

I’m a keen gardener and like this little starter kit which is a great little set to start learning to grow.

The only negative I’d say is that the instructions aren’t as clear as they could be in terms of where to do, what type of earth etc. I’m ok as I am aware of the variables
I know I can’t sow everything at once as the variety albeit good has to be sown at different times if the year. If grown inside under lights then that’s fine but then there’s the issue of the ensuring that you mimic pollination if your growing inside.

It would have been helpful if the coir was in 5 separate blocks rather than one.

Although I’ve mentioned negatives it is possible to glean some of the information off the internet which should be helpful.

All of these veg should be easy enough to grow. Even for those of you new to growing your own.

I love the little pop up pots which will be easy to use and remove the plant from the pit when ready

    The pack contains
~ 5 Easy Release Pots in small size
    ~ 1 Coir planting medium
    ~ 5 packs of seeds

For a fiver it’s good value.

What a great little starter kit for growing seedlings ready to plant in the spring. I will certainly be using it to get ready. I love the innovative way you can just pop the plant out using the bottom of the pit and you are good to go to pop in a bigger pot or the ground. This is quite small in size but it has everything you need inside. Would make a great stocking stuffer or something to do with the kids to get them started growing their own vegetables. Superb for the price.

It’s the wrong time of year to be trying this so won’t really know how successful the kit is until next year now, but if this is anything like other kits I’ve used there should be at least some results!
Ideal for those that want to give kids something to do that’s not on a computer, those that want the joy of growing something of their own to eat or just for a nice bit of window decoration!

I have many clever pots and have found them all of great quality. This is a great starter kit but not sure who it’s aimed at. If you are an avid gardener there is nowhere near enough pots to grow the seeds supplied.
There is enough soil once soaked in water to fill the 5 pots. I’d say this kit is for kids/beginners only who want to try growing seeds and are happy with just a couple of each plant. The price is ok considering the cost of seeds if bought individually and pots/soil. But if you want to grow all the seeds you will need to buy seed trays ideally.
Nice gift for those new to gardening but can’t really be started till early spring.

Good starter kit, but seed trays required if growing all seeds

The kit contains 5 of grow pots easy release design pots. I’ve used these before in a bigger size and they are super easy to use when transplanting. This is well priced and is a nice little starter kit although 5 pots isn’t really very much considering you have 5 different types of fruit/veg seeds to try.
It’s a bit of a strange combinations of seeds too. I don’t think Brussels sprout are a popular choice for most people and corn needs quite a bit of space and care.

  32. DominicCarman says:

This is a nice kit to use as a present for a keen gardener or willing beginner. Everything you need is included, compost, seeds and pots, just add water and then let nature work its magic.

You have to add water to the compost and leave it for an hour to absorb so beware of this if doing it with children and there is only enough for four pots not 5 so you will need to redistribute some of the compost or add some of your own.

We haven’t waited long enough to take the seeds onto the next stage yet but we are expectant.

    Good fun and good value.

  33. Heather Poole says:

This would make a great little gift for people taking an interest in growing their own produce but not sure where to start or hesitant having to buy everything in bulk. This little kit comes with the pots to start the seedlings, a brick of coir as soil substitute, five seed varieties and a little leaflet with instructions. The seeds included are classic produce we all know and love; strawberries, sweetcorn, peas, runner beans and Brussel sprouts. With each there are a good number of seeds incase some don’t end up germinating. The window of opportunity for planting runs between January and June, with produce ready to harvest in the last 6 months of the year. This gives you something to look forward to all year round, so would make a lovely little xmas stocking filler. Although the only downside is that you’re likely going to want to plant the seeds all in spring as the coir that is provided comes as a brick and you will need to soak and expand it all in one go for even distribution into all the pots. One of the selling point of this brand is the design of the pots. They’re supposed to make getting established seedlings out easier as you just need to push the base to pop them out without damaging any of the seedling roots, it’s a nice touch but I think if you’re buying this then you’re more interested in the concept of an all-in-one kit.

This sew and grow Petunia set has all you need to grow a lovely set of petunias. The kit comes with a pot, briquette, soil and seeds. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow, and you don’t have to be a great gardener in order to grow these in this set, as it’s a fairly simple set up. The planting instructions says the best time is between February and April. It’s currently October so I can’t comment if they grow ok, but it’s a great little set for the money and ideal for smaller gardens, or even small balconies. It’s very good quality, and I will update my review with more photos once they have been planted and have started to grow.

It’s a little smaller than I expected, but decent quality and everything you need to grow the seeds is provided. I think it’s a little pricey at 10. Don’t be fooled by the photo-this is a fairly small planting growing kit, but the price is also modest so don’t be put off. What you actually get are 5 packet of seeds namely brussel sprouts, strawberry, pea, bean and sweetcorn-not so many seeds in each but what you get looks good quality. I not particularly pleased to see plastic pots, but I suppose you can mitigate this by reuse. You also get a small piece of coir which you can soak to break down into a growing medium, but the quantity created is inadequate in my view and so I used a good quality potting compost instead. I am as confident as I can be that these seeds will develop for planting out next Spring after the frost has subsided and I shall be interested to see just how strong the plants become. A nice small gift for a child or anyone who wants to grow these particular varieties from seed.

At 5 this kit is amazing value for money, especially given that a single pack of seeds will often cost 2 or more.

In this pack you really do get everything you need to get started, and if there isn’t quite enough coir after soaking the block for the given time, you could always top up with a little compost if entirely necessary. I obviously haven’t tried this yet as the planting season for all the included seeds has passed, I will check next year.

The plastic pots themselves are brilliant, such a simple idea to make it easy to push the seedling out for transplanting without damaging the pot. I often plant lots (sixty plus) of Sunflowers, and the little seedling pots I use only last a year or two as getting the seedling out damages them, these are so much better.

In the kit you get the following:
    5 x Easy release pots
1 x Pack of Strawberry Alpine Regina seeds
1 x Pack of Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor seeds
1 x Pack of Pea Early Onward seeds
1 x Pack of Sweetcorn seeds
1 x Pack of Brussel Sprout seeds
    1 x Block of coir

This Clever Pots Grow Your Own Flowers (Petunia) comes as a complete set – a decent sized and good quality grey plastic pot, seeds, soil, a coir planting block and instruction leaflet. The leaflet recommends that the petunia version is planted between February and April for best results.

The instructions, although small, are very clear and should be fool proof. I have decided to risk it and plant my Petunias now rather than wait for February – if there are any problems I’ll update this review.. I think this kit could be a great way to encourage, young, would be gardeners as well as inexperienced adults.

4.0 out of 5 stars Should be foolproof!

Maybe a little pricey considering it all looks a little pathetic when you open it. However it’s probably reasonable enough if you add up what it would cost for each item. So 9.35 isn’t bad I guess.
However the pots were covered in dirt as if they’d been packed by a gardener that’s just been digging their garden. However not the end of the world, other than it looks a little used. Hence knocked off a star.
But if these are seeds you use and you don’t have any of these little pots lying around (I have hundreds of em) then it maybe worth you buying. Not used the small briquette yet as won’t be planting seeds til Spring now.

I hope you found this helpful. Please let me know if you did.

Not sure about price and pots arrived dirty but generally ok

    Kit contains:
~ 5 Clever Easy Release Pots in small size
~ 1 Coir planting medium (weighs approx 112g which makes up about 1.5 liters of potting mix)
~ 5 packs of seeds: Strawberry Alpine Regina, Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor, Pea Early Onwards, Sweetcorn, Brussels Sprout
    ~ 1 Growing instructions

    GOOD POINTS:
+ Kit contains all material needed for sowing (except water)
+ Easy to use and comes with a guide
    + Good variety of seeds
+ Had the clever easy release pots before and they are great for transplanting as the soil and young plant pop out easily (just push from underneath)

    NOT SO GOOD POINTS
    – The growing instructions are ok, plenty of info for sowing the seeds however the instructions for transplants and growing outside are minimal.
For example, the instructions for Peas say ‘ Plant approx 15cm apart and use canes and netting to create support for the plants to climb vertically. Allow 60cm between further rows to help with harvesting. Harvest from June to October. No mention of what type of soil to plant in or whether it should be in a sunny or shady spot.
    – No sow by date (the fresher the seeds the increase rate of germination)
    – No name of what variety the sweetcorn or Brussels sprouts
    – Personally, I would not consider growing sweetcorn as it’s difficult, all the other 4 are relatively easy to grow. Probably swap the sweetcorn for courgette seeds
    – This particular kit contained 2 packs of brussels sprouts and no strawberries which was disappointing

Nice kit to start off seedling

Have had these kind of flower pot kits before and they are great. Even if you know nothing about gardening they are dead easy to use. Full instructions and everything you need is in the kit. Just take note of the correct month to grow the flowers in. Arrives in a nice modern coloured grey pot, which can also be reused afterwards.

So with this kit you get five plastic pots, soil and 5 small packets of seeds. You use 300ml of water to expand the compressed compost. It’s amazing TBH as a small ‘brick’ becomes sufficient, perfectly damp compost to use in 4 pots … this latter is mildly irritating as there is no way there’ll ever be enough for all 5 pots. Even with the 4 filled the compost only came to the inner rim, so around 3cm short of optimal each time IMO. Anyway, the seeds I got are Strawberry, Runner Bean, Garden Pea, Sweetcorn, Sprouts. Strange mix maybe, but it’s cool. There are quite a few seeds in each packet so you can expect several plants and then repot downstream as they start growing (hopefully!) . For 5 feels a nice buy and despite the lack of compost I’d still say a 5***** review is in order. TBH I just filled the final pot from a bag of compost I had outside.

If you are a beginner gardener or want something for the children then this is for you. It would also make a perfect gift for a keen gardener.

The five pots provided are good quality, easy to empty and reusable, lovely pots, I’m really pleased with them. You can write The contents directly on the pot if you like.

The coir block needs to be soaked in water for an hour, I tested it and found there was enough for all five pots.

The seeds are in little see-through packets with the type of seed printed on so no mistaking which is which.
    Lettuce cos seeds
    Tomato cherry minibel seeds
    Tomato moneymaker seeds
    Cucumber marketmore seeds
    Rocket salad leaf seeds.

Comprehensive instructions take you step by step through the preparation and growing process, . Even if you’ve never grown anything before you will be able to do this.

    Recommended.

This is a lovely little project to grow yourself or gift to a friend. The kit contains a 20cm grey plastic pot, bag of soil, coir block and seeds.
Unfortunately there is no instruction leaflet provided (despite the promise of one) so if, like me, you’re not sure what on earth you’re supposed to do with the coir block, you’ll need to check online to find out. Deducting one star for that reason.

Clever little kit at a great price.
The fact that this kit is only 5 and you get everything you need in 1 box fills me with joy.
The pots are a fab idea so easy to extract the plants once they grow big enough to sow.
You get all the seeds to set you on your way along with the planting coir (compost substitute) and pots.
The price of this set is great when you compare it to buying individually. Seeds alone are expensive to buy so this is a win win getting everything delivered in one.
    Definitely recommend.

Neat little kit with five types of seeds and comprehensive instructions

    Strawberry Alpine Regina.
    Runner beans Scarlet Emperor.
    Pea Early Onward
    Sweet corn
    Brussels sprout.

The instructions give details of how to sow and grow, Suitable for both beginners and experienced.

5 pots, a great size, bigger than I expected, a little under 4 inches across the top. I like the way the contents can be easily released by pressing the bottom. The pots are reusable.

The coir planting medium is in the form of a brick and is prepared by adding 300ml of water and left to stand for one hour.
This is the only problem I had with the kit. The planting medium was only enough to fill four pots. The manufacturer states the kit comes with everything you need but unless you only partially fill the pots, not quite enough coir is provided. Although considerably more than some kits, just a little more and it would have been the perfect kit.

I will still give four stars as it’s great value and I’ve fallen in love with the pots.

Nice kit, innovative pots, great value.
