Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI purchased this printer to replace an old HP all in one and for better images. The photo quality is excellent. One of the reasons I chose this printer is for the 6 ink colours and rear feeder. I am very impressed with the print quality and scanning. I purchased compatible ink on Amazon and pleased with the results. It looks so much better on the desk than my old one.

Very fast, ink lasts ages. Works like a dream. Really easy to set up. If the paper jams, which is rare, easy to sort. Compact and neat. Ive used it for around two months now , printed approx 500 pages of text , plus some pictures. Im still using the ink it came with. Im so glad i bought this printe

Bought this to replace a previous Epson printer which had expired. This is a compact unit and easy to set up. Comes with full ink cartridges (not like others which only give you a trial amount of ink). Print quality seems to be very good and the scanning facility is easy to use. Only downside is the cost of the inks, however they seem to be lasting quite a long time and you can look around for compatible ink units. Delivered in timely fashion and good value for money.

Works well. Good quality prints. Scans easily and allows you to see a preview on screen. Wasn’t too much hassle to set up.

The printer arrived early and was installed in less than an hour. The installation was eased by the available videos from the Epson website, so nothing was missed.
The print output is as good as the old Epson that it’s replacing and the LCD screen is larger and slightly easier to use.
The only negative I can say is that when the output tray closes for some reason the leading edge catches the drop down front cover. This will cause an issue over time so I’m looking for a way to stop that happening.
Other than that it was well worth the price.

Great entry level printer perfect for everyday general use and when used with proper photo paper it’s really good and crisp prints impress, I looked at several lower cost printers as all we need a printer for is for ebay labels and flight boarding passes etc so having the scan and photo option is a massive bonus. Found a site for the replacement ink called stinky ink and it’s half the price of our old printer this replaced. Only thing I want to change is auto drawer close when if you press a button or send a command through the app or something like that but it’s here nor there really

First time having a printer we found simple to install. Great new features which proves Epson do listen to customer feed back. Arrived on time. Very happy with this printer. Well done Epson and well done Amazon.

The printer was easy to set up, following the on-line and on screen instructions (the printer has a small touch screen). I do not understand why some people apparently had problems installing it.
I tested the print and scan functions by printing a 6″ x 4″ photo from my PC, then scanning the print at 9600 dpi to a memory stick and finally printing the scan, again on to 6″ x 4″ glossy photo paper. Both prints were very good with only very slight softening on the 2nd generation print. Scanning is silent and actual printing virtually so.
The only criticisms I would make are that the opening panels are very thin and ‘plasticky’ and it is very (almost worryingly) noisy when picking paper out of the cassettes and also when extending the output tray.
Other than that I would happily recommend this device.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery cost effective good looking all-in-one which will also produce first class photos.
Equipped with a super easy intuitive full colour touch screen and supported by excellent software for remote use on PCs, tablets and smart phones, it’s difficult to find fault with this product!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis Epson Expression Photo XP-8700 replaced another (different) top brand separate ink tank printer that started to leak just out of warranty. This is a super printer, very quiet start up and running (compared to the previous one I had). The touchscreen is handy. The only issue I had so far was the fact that it keeps disconnecting from wi-fi every time the PC is switched off, meaning I had to readd it every time I use the PC. Eventually I hard-wired it with a USB cable (not supplied), problem solved.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersTook a while to set up you do need persistence and patience, and yet to give a really good test just one thing mains cable way to short why do manufacturers do that!!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersFantastic printer for the price with great quality photo prints which is what I was looking for. I print and scan documents minimally so having that functionality is a bonus and not a necessity. Easy to set up but a bit of a pain on the software side for a Windows PC. I had some trouble connecting to my laptop but after I did everything works as intended. Fairly straight forward on my phone with the app which I would recommend as the preferred way to complete the initial setup as it walks you through installing ink cartridges, etc.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersGood end product but driver / software tempremental which results in it being difficult to set up and sometimes loosing visibility to devices. Switching off and on usually does the trick. The error tracking software always points to the router which is not actually the issue. Black n white laser is superior for text but with pictures this wins hands down.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersVery happy with this so far. The photos are superb quality on gloss paper (I’m a part time photographer) and it’s easy to leave a stack of 4×6 photo papers in there to quickly wifi print one from my phone whenever I want. And there’s an A4 tray too we use for plain paper. It messes up the paper feed if the printer is not on a level surface, but I can’t really blame the printer for that. Ink doesn’t last too long, but we are using the cheap unbranded ones which are OK value – the control panel warns you about this but lets you continue with them and so far they are fine. I moved to colour laser about 10years ago, after giving up on poor reliabilty inkjets, but this is so good at photos and so cheap to buy, I’m not regretting it and could replace it if it goes south. If I needed a high speed/bulk printer I’d still go with laser, but this is great for my needs now. Pretty small too which makes a nice chnage after much bulkier ones we’ve had in the past.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersUsed for a home/ SME printer to replace my XP-6100. Very easy to setup. The Epson site, which is shown in the very brief setup sheet, has several sequential videos which show the complete process. Basically: connect with your USB cable if using direct connect and switch on. Put in some paper, install the 6 included cartridges and that’s it. The printer then goes through the quality analysis and alignment process and that’s it

The included CD is pretty redundant, as all it does is to tell you there are updates available, so you will have to be internet connected to get them all initially. Print quality is great, the LCD screen is much larger and more intuitive than the 6100 and the extending of the print output tray is all automatic now, as is the process of shutdown. Printer ink replacement is much simpler with more space and access and the scanning function seems a lot faster

One BIG beware, which isn’t the fault of the printer by the way. My previous 6100 and this 8700 both refuse to print with the error message, ‘the system cannot find the file specified’ at the beginning

This is due to Microsoft’s latest Win10 update KB5010342 which caused that problem on a lot of printers. Uninstall that update and all is well. Epson or MS will no doubt fix that soon hopefully, but I now have a fully functional XP-6100 to get rid of! Oh well . . such is the life of Computer stuff. Very pleased so far with this little beastie!

The problem it turns out, was the Print Spool Service. Switch to Direct Printing and all is well. Thanks to Epson for the NON help!

The only direct replacement for the single use A4 photo printer the Photo R285 I could find. It has worked well and has printed around 40 A4 pages of a booklet with each page 75% photographs on photo quality 175 gm paper, all on the set of Inks supplied which is pretty good. Printer is very compact but needlessly complex. Seperate Feed and Output trays a bit of a bind, but the 180 degree paper route works ok even with the 175 gm paper. A secondary front cassette appears to be superflous, and I have removed it meantime.
A third paper feed at the rear handles thick material one at a time. The Old R285 had one input for all materials , and a fixed output. Overall the R285 was much simpler, handles more or less all the same media, even super long panoramic prints, and l used it for 8-9 years. It was larger but overall the XP-55 is not an improvement. Yes it has WiFi which I do not require at present, but it will be interesting to see how it will last with use.
