An expensive addition to our Hive central heating automated system, but ideal for controlling the temperature of a little used bedroom for when our granddaughter is due to stay overnight at short notice and can be turned on even if we’re out.

Follow the instructions and be patient with the calibration. I love being able to control each room instantly from my phone. It is a shame they don’t automatically include the 3rd adapter as that is the one I require and so I had to wait to install them.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThese should pay for themselves pretty quickly with gas prices so high these days. We bought 6 of these TRVs and have half fitted so far, and it’s great to be able turn different rooms on and off and change the temperature for different rooms too. We’re fitting the other 3 soon but do need a plumber to change the existing valve on 1 radiator, all the others were no hassle to change and can often be done by yourself. One thing to check before you go ahead though is to leave one radiator without a TRV on as it’s recommended by lots of heating engineers. The other thing not do do is have your main hive thermostat in the room where a radiator has a TRV on either, and don’t use rechargeable batteries in these either. Would highly recommend people invest in these.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGot 3(113.97) of these thinking i could just use them in the rooms we mostly use over the winter and yes anyone can fit them very easily, BUT you can’t use them because no where in the description does it say you will also need a Hive Hub.
Now you can get a Hub on its own (120) but I went for Hive Thermostat for Heating with Hive Hub as this comes with a hub for an extra 20(134.99).
Now to have the Thermostat working you will also need a Receiver which at last you wont need to pay for as it comes with the Thermostat.
Now this just might be my house but the receiver should go where you old thermostat was located but mine only had low voltage control cable no permanent live or neutral so this means I now have to pay out for a rewire. I know it will save me cash in the long run but so far cost me approx. 250 without the rewire. just be warned

Have hive radiator valves through the house along with hive thermostat. Although it’s expensive initially to buy them all (roughly 500 for what I’ve got), they have more than paid for themselves this winter with the prices of gas/electric at the minute. Nice to be able to control the heating when not at home, can have the room with the dogs in kept warm and the rest of the house can be turned down until we get i

Good price. Good quality TRV. Easy to setup and use. A simple way to reduce energy wasted heating unused rooms. Setting schedules within the Hive App is simple.

I bought two for the front & back bedroom. I managed to get the one in the front bedroom to work with no difficulty. The one in the back bedroom will not complete the setting up process (Takes 4 hours). I think this may be because the CH is rarely heating for 4 consecutive hours . I had a text exchange with the Tech support who asked for photographs but never got back to me after I sent them. All in all, very frustrating.

Reasonably good product easy to fit however difficult to balance and get the correct temperature Heat on demand will be an expensive way to use them but then again we have to ensure British Gas maximise profits!!

Controls rooms not used at all or during day hours, tried calibrating but wouldn’t at beginning not good info, finally calibrated but when they demanded extra heat boiler hub flashing green light and wouldn’t start, eventually set without calibrating now operate at set times but only when thermostat starts boiler, this does work for me but it is not completely satisfactory.

Easy to fit and link to the system, although ours is right next to the Wi-Fi router which probably helps a lot. It says you don’t need to calibrate but the Hive app keeps reminding you to do I used the app to calibrate it. It’s very accurate and clever, controlling the temperature better than the original mechanical radiator thermostat. It meets our needs which is to regulate the temperature better in our living room but if you only have one then you can’t boost it without heating the whole of the system and that is dependent on the temperature of the room with the controlling radiator, in our case the hall radiator. I’d like to install one on all radiators as this would get the full efficiency benefits but for me they are too expensive for that.

I consider myself to be very technically competent but despite reading instructions, articles and watching professional videos I could not get it set up fully. It worked, but there were smokies I could not explain or get pest. The good news is when I phoned for thechnical support they sorted it remotely. When I asked what they had done I was told “nothing special” but it turns out they always start with a reboot of the hub (that I have not done as everything seemed to be connected and devices were talking to eachother) before doing a recalibration. I had done this myself but it never seemed to reach a satisfactory ending, even after 6 hours. Bottom line is that their action, which also took over 6 hours, must have reached a good conclusion as everything works fine.

Dug deep and bought 7 x TRV’s. Delivered next day and all installed in an hour. Very simple to setup, my biggest fear was the valve compatibility but as it turned out 6 x Danfoss RA & 1 x M30 adaptor required for my system so pretty straight forward. Valves are currently calibrating so will have to see how the system performs over time and return with another comment.

For me, this allows for individual room controls with HIVE already installed around the house, this was a no-brainer albeit 350 lighter.

Very easy to install and calibrate. I fitted it on the coldest radiator but unfortunately it’s the last radiator so when you need to use heat on demand other radiators also get heated up. I will need to Install these to other radiators to be able to control individual radiator but the price of the valve is quite expensive so will.have to wait for the sale.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI got 9 of these despite very mixed reviews. Within 30 mins all valves connected to Hive Hub and that night they all calibrated. Here’s what I learned:

    1. As with any Hive device, your hub needs to be giving a strong signal to the house. I got a repeater to help and no probs since. I think this is the root cause of the main complaints if they don’t connect fully as the hub not in optimal signal position.

    2. Set up the valve BEFORE you put it on the radiator.

    3. Sit as near to the Hub/repeater as you can, put the batteries in, see the little M flashing.

    4. Go to the Hive app and Install new device. Go through all the valve steps (but don’t connect it to the rad yet). Wait for the valve to be connected.

    5. The valve lcd will then show you the room temp and a solid wifi icon. Check it’s on the app and you can rename it etc.

    6. Only then connect it to the rad. Press the pin to check it’s not sticking first. Don’t overly tighten the adapters because if you have to remove it, you may actually unscrew the valve unit and leak water (like I did!!). Hand tight is enough.

    7. I then checked valve would change temp on the lcd if I changed it on the app. You need to do this while attached to rad to check it’s moving the pin.

    8. I calibrated them all at the same time while the heating was on – took about 2-3 hours.

    9. Beware there is a slight motor noise when the heating comes on, or the temp is reached etc. it woke me up at 0645 this morning!!! But I’ll get used to it smug in the knowledge I’m saving gas

    10. If any valves don’t connect do a factory reset (look it up but it’s something like take batteries out/hold the button/put batteries back in and keep holding button until all the flashing stops – there is a soft reset which did not fully reset so beware), that solved one of my valves immediately that would not originally connect.

    11. It’s trial and error setting the algorithms, you have to evaluate which rooms need to be warm as they have frequent use; which can be fully off all the time and which are a hybrid so I put them on about 17 deg tick over – better to avoid a hard ramp up from cold as that will actually use more gas. Plus setting groups for rad in the same room was easy. But in one day I’ve saved 30% gas.

I decided to have these upstairs and the downstairs left with traditional valves as always occupied. Upstairs I set the algorithm based on when we’d go to bed so hotter later evening, tick over mid evening, etc., some bedrooms never in use.

Overall – set them up sat next to the hub, patience patience. Then have hours of fun watching the red icon go on and off on each rad.

    Hope that helps.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI had Hive Thermostat installed for a few years but never thought of Radiator Valves until the energy prices rocketed 10 fold. There are plenty of other cheaper radiator valves but they needed a new hub and in some cases a new thermostat, so didn’t go for cheaper options. But Hive Radiator valves were out of stock for a long time (may be due to high demand).
I bought 8 valves in total for the entire upper floor, installation was very straightforward (make sure to install 1 at a time). Once you have your first one installed the rest is very easy. Installation instructions are very clear and detailed. Tech support never needed so not sure what I’d get so a 4*.

Once they are put to use, I’ve seen a very clear difference in the boiler runtime and it has significantly reduced the running of the boiler. However, it is too early for me to see the real effects of the valves from a spending point of view as the weather is getting warmer by the day.

My only concern is that these valves are produced in bulk and could be cheaper to purchase so it will allow more and more people to buy them so effectively we all reduce the energy bills and eventually help to protect our environments. If Hive could drop the price so more and more households could buy them they will get 5 stars from me, but for now it’s a 4 Stars based on the price.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis review is for a second purchase of these valves to enable room by room heating control in the whole house.
I’ll start with the bad: I wish these could be bought with M28 adapters. You can order them for free from Hive, but it adds a delay to installation. You have to phone or live chat to someone – the first request took two weeks to deliver, the second request took over a month – with the order not being raised in the system.
Other than that, installation is a simple case of removing the old valve heads, adding the adapter and screwing the new head on. Instructions for installation are very clear, including actions to take to check and clean the valve if they are sticking at all. This is important to check as otherwise the valve calibration process will fail – essential to ensure the room heats up correctly.
We now have the main rooms of the house set to heat on demand – with the heating for each room on at different times of the day. We are seeing a saving in gas usage, although not as much as Hive implies. As the valves aren’t cheap, I’d estimate maybe two years at current prices before we break even on the cost (two people in a 4 bed house, both working from home).
Battery life: the first valves have been in place just over six months and still show plenty of powe

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersWith the fuel prices, the way they are at the moment I can say with all honesty these could’ve been even more expensive and you will still get a return on investment in a matter of months not years. They truly are a fantastic piece of kit. I did a lot of research on them before buying them and have discovered many more attributes since installing them. Some of my favourite features are the algorithms that each one creates which is specific to your room and includes airflow, leaving the door open radiator covers and a whole multitude of things. They actually go into learning mode for the first couple of weeks of owning them, and therefore you may almost think that they are not working because they are not delivering enough heat and yet that is part of the learning process after which they are so accurate that you will save a fortune on your bills. It really is worth reading. All of the frequently asked questions on the hive website after you have bought them Because they offer a wealth of information but I have to say they are easy to install. The app is intuitive and has fantastic instructions and these are a first class addition to my smart home. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend them to you.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving just recently had a new boiler installed with a hive controller I had wanted to see how well these radiator thermostats worked.
And happy to say they work well.
You firstly need to make sure your TRV valve will accommodate these unfortunately mine did not however through the smart help video I was able to work out that I needed to order an adaptor this was an extremely easy and intuitive operation and it arrived a week later free of charge.
The valve it is important to say will not work until it has set itself up this took several attempts over a few days and when done has worked flawlessly.
I will update this as and when I fit to my whole house and then it will run so the advertisement says a lot more efficiently.
The valves as all hive products I believe are over priced and is why I haven’t purchased anymore yet and why I dropped a star.
This one I bought on black Friday.
My recommendation to this product is read and follow instructions and preserve.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGreat system and working well within 24 hrs. My friend gave me a few hints which took him weeks to get to the bottom of himself which were really useful. Use a conventional non Hive thermostatic radiator valve on the radiator nearest the main Hive thermostat or the system fights with itself. That tip is in the manual but easy to miss. Set the thermostat to Heat On Demand and the same with all the TRVs. Select the Thermostat from None on all the trv settings. If you have an existing system and are upgrading to the Hive 360 Hub say, you have to uninstall the old one. This escapes a lot of people as apparently the instructions don’t tell you to do that then the new hub will keep failing to install. Use a gas engineer who has installed Hive before for the receiver in the boiler. The trv’s are really easy to fit as they simply screw on. No water no mess. You may have to run the calibration process a few times on each trv but leave it a few days before doing that as most of them will settle down of their own accord. They will respond a lot quicker after they have calibrated. You may want to bleed the rads for air and top up the water in the boiler. Again use a Corgi Gasfit boiler engineer if not sure.

I have Hive heating control so decided to buy a number of these and fit round the house. Idea being that during lockdown I didn’t want to heat the whole house while working from home, as only the few rooms I needed.
Do they work – yes they do. Fairly easy to set up individual schedules for each room in the house and the heat boost is a useful feature. Battery life is unknown at this point but they are 2 AA batteries per valve so no problem to replace.
Ease of install – Following the instructions through the Hive app was simple and all fitted without issue. Little tricky to remove as the collar is hard to grip once installed. Calibration of the valves was a faff as needed to haver the heating on to complete, but once done no issues.
Range of Signal – 1 room proved to be a problem and the valve kept on dropping off line. Moved it and the valve works fine so must be the signal. Hopefully a Hive range extender will solve.
Overall pleased with them as they do what I need. Only downside is the price as doing multiple rooms the cost soon builds up – saying that I only bought them when on offer, not full price.
