Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is the best fightpad for those who prefer to play fighting games with a D-Pad. Build quality is high and the mechanical buttons feel very good. D-Pad is very responsive and accurately execute my moves in SF6 for example. It’s also nice that the controller works for PS5, PS4 and PC. Highly recommended to buy for Fightpad players.

Got it for street fighter 6 and it is incredibly responsive. Control pad is made for fighting games and satisfying clicks similar to an arcade stick for the buttons. Great buy

Ive been using an older version of this for years now, and with Street Fighter 6 dropping recently i had to upgrade to a PS5 compatible pad. This controller is amazing with its very solid dpad, handy analog stick for full circle inputs, and amazingly clicky microswitch buttons. A must buy for any fighting game player who plays on gamepad

I have used this mainly for street fighter 6 so far, but have also tried it with Guilty Gear Strive. In short, this controller is an A+. It’s lightweight, but somehow feels sturdy, the buttons give good feedback, and it’s comfortable in my hands. It also works on both the ps4 and ps5 right out of the box, with just a toggle of the switch on the back. A+

I never buy aftermarket controllers because the quality is just never there. This however, being license by sony tells you how much they trust Hori in making a controller. The feel is good, the buttons are tactile and the logos are big so you can manage to know which button youre pressing even if youre a senior.

It’s a good pad, mechanical buttons, good action on the d-pad, works on PC and ps4 (and steam deck, if you have a hub) I like i

I bought this just to test it out and try it. It feels quality made and it’s nice and ergonomic in your hands. I like the short throw octo gate analog stick, and the pad feels nice as well. The action buttons have a nice clicky feel to them with those special switches in them. They are high quality feeling switches and activate quickly. The app you can get for it is kind of hard to find online, but once you get a hold of it it works and allows you to program the controller while it’s connected to your computer. I tried this out and personally I’m going to stick with my Hori VLX Hitbox mod, but this is a nice controller to have for my grandson to use when he comes through to play Street Fighter or another fighting game. I give it 5 stars.

Very good pad. Buttons are responsive and both D Pad and stick are very comfortable. Controller is lightweight.

When you first use the pad, it feels crisp. VERY crisp, almost too snappy. A few hours will get it nice and comfy, though, and during this period I absolutely loved the feel of it. The pad is shallow and precise. The buttons are stable, clicky, and take only a light press. It has a unique feel when compared to Hori’s older FC4 and Fighting Commander models, but still retains that lineage. I will also say that it’s definitely the lightest controller they’ve made, and not necessarily in a good way. It could stand to weigh a few more ounces for stabiltiy.

After many hours of use (maybe 200-300?) I noticed some directional input errors that didn’t feel right, so took a closer look. It turns out the thresholds were developing some looseness, so the slightest leftward pressure would make my down inputs flicker between down and down-left. Obviously no good for a fighting game.

This problem would be game over for any other controller, but Hori makes a companion app that allows you to tweak the sensitivity of every input, so I reduced the sensitivity of the diagonals by about 20% and the problem disappeared. It’s set and I can play Tekken completely normally again, no input errors. Pretty awesome, even if the app for the PS5 controller is a little strange: the Hori website links you to a Google drive, of all places. It’s the real app and it works, but it seems… weird. They host the Xbox version of the app on their own site.

I feel like $60 was worth the controller I got, even if it has had a few small issues. If you’ve bought fightpads before, you know they don’t last forever. It’s just plastic, and we do tend to punish them. The Hori Octa is an economical way to enjoy your favorite fighting games with a better-than-normal controller.

The controller feels pretty good in the hand, except that it’s so light that it feels hollow and low quality.

As how it performs in games, I don’t feel uncomfortable moving to this controller after playing on PS4 and PS5 controllers.

My intention of this purchase however was just to keep my dualsense controller from degrading further.

Overall, it’s pretty good; could have a lower price.

This ‘Satelite Dish’ (as I nicknamed it) Style D-Pad is the best for Street Fighter. I’m really not happy with the dual-sense d-pad or even the dualshock 4 I was using on PS4. This makes fireball rotation movement for shoto characters like Ryu or Ken and charge characters like Chun-Li so much easier to execute combos. The accuracy for execution is instantly noticeable. I only returned mine, because I needed the money back, but I will be purchasing another soon for street fighter content on YouTube. I love Street Fighter and this is my favourite controller. Having the 6 light, medium and heavy attack buttons on the front, make the game more fun also. I never liked using triggers on the back for fighting games.

The feel of the controller is nice. Very professionally made (if that makes sense), visually as well. Looks nice.
I can easily spend hours using this controller without my thumbs hurting and the material it’s made from is nice to hold on to. The buttons don’t take much effort to register a click, so you might not like this? I got used to it though. I suppose that’s for quick reactions during play, which makes sense. They 6 buttons, make clicky sounds like mouse clicks, for your info.

The only negative I can think of is the sound from the headphone port isn’t as clear and bassy as the dual-sense controller, and I like my bass. It’s not aweful and tinny, but it does lean towards a sharper, tinny sound. Anyway, it’s great, so give it a buy if you like fighting games!

Buttons are really big and a bit too responsive, which is a matter of preference, spectacular dpad, which is expected of HORI, but a weird layout, so you’ll have to adjust or reconfigure settings. But a solid controller nonetheless.

Its a really good controller. Its much better than using a normal controller just on default settings. So if you want to upgrade from a normal pad. Do this!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersOriginally I wrote a scathing review due to extremely poor diagonal specificity on the Dpad, and the fact that sensitivity had to be at least 3/5 for the diagonals to even register at all, until I updated the controller software using the controller manager from Hori’s website, which also allowed me to tune the sensitivity of all 8 directions independently. These two things made the Dpad much much better, and now I am happy with it. So if you’re having problems get that controller manager software, update your device and do some tweaking.

I’m more of a fight stick player, for the last 12 years I’ve almost exclusively played fighting games on fight stick. I recently have tried to get into ultimate marvel 3. I noticed many of my inputs are weird and are especially slow when performing movement. I’m used to mad catz products so I didn’t know what you expect with the Hori pad but I just say I can tell a great deal of engineering and quality of life assurance went into this design. The dpad is probably my favorite of all time for fighters. I find many of the console controllers too small but this one is perfect. Apparently there is a way to adjust the sensitivity but I haven’t used it yet…. The buttons are designed to feel like arcade buttons but they feel kind of soft I wish they were more clicky however they are responsive and do the job. The analog stick has a short throw so it’s easy to use as well but I didn’t really use it much.

A feature I didn’t even know the controller had before buying is assigning buttons which can make for very interesting set ups on the fly. Although I’m still unsure if I’m going to play pad going forward but this particular one seems to highly meet my needs so far!!!

    Great pad.

I replaced my HORI fighting commander for the PS3 for this. What can I say about it? It’s freaking awesome. D-pad feels good, the buttons are satisfying to press (I loove clicky buttons!), the analog stick, while stiff and not 360 degrees, still perfectly usable for fighting games and shmups. The shoulder buttons feel pretty good too. The controller is also all-round comfortable to hold in your hands which is just perfect. The only downside really is a lack of turbo and not being compatible with Brook super converters (hopefully get updates to get these controllers compatible) which I was really looking forward to using it on most. All in all, an S grade controller, just as good as the Razer Raion if not better. Well worth the purchase.

This controller is perfect for fighting games. Front facing buttons are the best part, keyboard style switches. Very accurate. D-pad is ok but not the best. Octagonal gate for the analog is a nice touch. Worth the purchase.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersI’ve owned this controller since launch and have spent roughly four months tinkering intermittently with a variety of games including fighters such as the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, metroidvania like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and my main focus, the new platform brawler MultiVersus.

Once I changed the settings using the companion app on my PC (we’ll get to that in a bit) I found this controller quickly becoming an all time favorite. So much so that just today I purchased another for the Xbox console family, a very nearly identical pad with one extra button (again, we’ll get to that in a bit) and how found it plays brilliantly with current gems like Persona 5 Royal and Dead Cells.

The membrane D-Pad is an apparent dealbreaker for some who prefer the clicky clarity of a stick or Razer Raion or a fightstick.* Those are great options, of course. But when it comes to the PlayStation 5, those options have been greatly reduced and are now limited.

Your PS4 games will work with those previously mentioned accessories* but Sony has placed a frankly obtrusive gateway which has certainty effected accessibility for those who need it, and created an unnecessary annoyance for all involved. Will this be fixed in a future console update? One would hope. But considering it is a self imposed restriction, Don’t hold your breath.

Even with the above mentioned caveat, I find the Octa pad to be among my favorites. The Dpad in deep and small, reminding me of a less touchy Neo Geo Pocket. I do the moves, the moves happen, and I find it easier than a normal PS5 dpad. If that’s all you care about, there it is, it’s good! Binary shoulder triggers mean instant action, the buttons are hyper sensitive and large enough to be played with either thumbs or fingers , and the thumb pad and it’s eight way gate is just resistant enough to communicate direction.

But this combo of Dpad and stick returns to a form factor not seen since the Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn. And as someone who has a plethora of pro pads with four back buttons, I’ve become keenly aware of modern games which don’t really use the right stick, such as the above mentioned Persona 5, which uses fixed camera and quick resets, and plays naturally on the Octa, like a PSP throwback. Or if you play BloodStained, turning the stick control to Right Stick (more on that later) makes the game 100% playable. Using the stick for the gimmick puzzles and the Dpad for movement has been a ton of fun.

Again, having used pro controllers for years, I have become keenly aware of what games dont really use the right stick. It feels like a waste of real estate and giant buttons are fun. And if you want to play fighters made for PS5, this wired pad is the way to go, IMHO. Heck, I’d probably still take it on the PS4 for fighters. Folks may feels weird about membrane but I’ve had no issues. None. The controller is light, it’s wide, it’s responsive, and it’s wired with no vibrate. I love it!

But…there’s one key flaw, and I dont think it’s Hori’s fault given it’s exist in it’s near identical Xbox version. You CAN NOT change your profile without a PC. Repeat, CAN NOT set profiles without a PC. Which means the left shoulders will be L3 and R3 (the buttons when you click the left or right stick in) the right shoulders will be L1 and L2, and the extra two face buttons will be R1 and R2. Weird? Yes, but it’s perfectly tuned settings for fighters. It’s a very logical default setting given the primary audience. Do you want a controller for Street Fighter? Here you go, out of the box gem.

But again, you can not change the default profile without a PC. Please be aware of this, it makes every bit of difference. If you’re buying this controller for PC, I still recommend the Xbox version because it’s an extra button to freely switch what the stick, shoulders, and extra buttons do. Sony has been weird about accessories this generation, I’m not blaming Hori for this. But given the reality of the situation, regardless of blame, it keeps it from 5 stars.

HOWEVER, there is a work around! Going into the PlayStation 5 settings, it is possible to use the Accessibility options to create a unique profile. With the flick of a setting, you can switch the left stick to a right stick, and change the location of every button. Everything I enjoy from the PC App, and then some, is possible through this solution. However, you wont be able to change the DPad sensitivity like you can in the app. That’s something I dont use because I cant tell the difference! Still, it’s a feature that should be available to all users, but unlike the Xbox version, there’s isn’t a console app. That’s pretty lame, and the solutions are inelegant to say the least. But at least there is a solution.

I hope this has helped you better understand if the Octa controller is right for you. Personally speaking, I love this thing. I have already explained the issues, but the durability and general feel is excellent. I’m very happy the Octa’s unique form factor exists and that a quality company like Hori has stuck with it enough to have made it multiplatform. I’d like to see other hardware manufactures try something similar or for an updated version in the future with mechanical dpads. But for right now, it’s a great pad.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI havent used a fight pad before but I wanted one after getting really into fighting games lately. Specifically street fighter. I wanted this because the ps5 controllers D pad is so hard to use for special inputs, and this one had a much smaller one which made things easier. That being said the fact that the R1 and R2 buttons are only on the face ruins this thing for me. Inputs are about muscle memory and this controller just makes me screw up everything I try to do. I will give it one thing though it made me appreciate my ps5 controller more.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’ve bought all the top known Fight Pad recommended by the Fighting Game Community and none of them I can really rock with except for this one, mainly because of the Stick. I know most Players hate using the Stick on this Pad because they are Pad Players. But if you have always played on a Fight Stick, this is something I would recommend if you just want to relax while playing your Fighting Games or if you don’t want to bring your Fight Stick if you are traveling. So this is my recommendation for those type of Players. If you’ve always played on Fight Pad, you might want to read other opinions on the product since I barely used the Pad on this Controller. I do love the feel of all the buttons. It’s easy to slide your finger or fingers from one button to the next. I love this controller and I would consider buying another down the line.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery responsive pad. Inputs all read for me- dp, fireballs, etc. The pad is a floating pad style and reads well. Buttons have a real nice click and the controller is ergonomically better than the older fighting commander – they added a stick on this one and sacrificed the size of the pad for those who use thumb stick controls. I don’t use the thumb stick for fighting games but I will say it has a nice resistance on it. Best thing is it works easily with all ps5 games. I’ve had to switch all my old games onto the ps5 and not all support legacy controllers— with this fightpad u don’t have to worry about that- it’ll work with all your imported fight games onto your ps5.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersHori fight pads are always a good choice if you want a good six button fighter. While I’m a stick person myself, I still like to have a few fight pads just for other people or to loan at events just in case. This one is their new PS5/PS4/PC one and it’s pretty good. The D-Pad is pretty nice. It’s not spongy, it’s not ultra right, it’s a very nice feeling pad that hits diagonals easily. No issues with pulling off hadokens, DPs, supers, dashing, etc. Works on both PS4 and PS5 too.

The buttons. They are nice feeling indeed, and the microswitch clicky buttons make it one of my fave pads, with the Power A Saturn copy pad just a tick better overall IMO. This has a touch pad, and it has a lockout to disable the touch pad, PS button, or even options and share which is a great feature to have. Audio 3.5mm jack is there ( only for console) and the cord is a USB A one that’s ten feet long. The only thing is the plastic does feel a bit thinner than I expected. It received a scratch from another DS4 that fell onto it which again was surprising. Overall, it’s a good pad and a decent one to try out.

    Pretty Good Fight Pad
