Looking for support for meniscus damage following a dislocated knee.
Tried other braces but wasn’t impressed. Shock doctor however is exactly as described, great support while remaining comfortable and allowing freedom to move during exercise and day-to-day life. Couldn’t ask for more.

I twisted my knee last year and damaged my ACL. “Could take 6-9 months” I was told. Oh joy! “Get a decent support” I was also told so I spent 20 on a popular blue one on Amazon and found it did nothing. Except made me sweat! So I manned up and splashed out on this one and yes, within 3 days it started to make my knee a lot more comfortable.
Now 2 months later it is a lot better. I still use it daily and it is very comfortable to wear. Getting the right size is important. It has geared metal side supports which work together with the straps to offer excellent support and comfort.
If your told to get a knee support please don’t mess around with cheap ones and get this one.
So why the missing star if it’s so good? Well, I’m not sure how long it will last. Whilst wearing shorts I was kneeling for about an hour and later noticed the hinge on one of the supports had worn into the honeycombed material cover. Yes I was a bit surprised, and disappointed, but to be honest if I needed a replacement I would buy the same again.

This brace has been a godsend while waiting for a knee operation, it is solid and provides full support from all sides. It’s surprisingly comfortable for a brace of this type, it can get a little annoying around the back of the knee if sitting for extended periods but that is the nature of these things. Orthopaedics much admired it during a consultation.
    Highly recommended

I have oestrogen arthritis in my knee and so it is unstable.this is the first brace that I’ve worn that gives me total support. The design and quality of materials is fantastic. It doesn’t move all through the day and the strap system stops pinching behind the knee which is a constant problem with all other knee supports I’ve had. I drive for a living and it is very comfortable even being in the same driving position for hours on end.
As others state, the sizing is a bit on the small sizemy knee measured 16″ so was on the lower end of XXL. That size is supposed to be for up to 17.25″ but I doubt if it would fit any knee much over 16.5″ so be aware.
Wish I’d bought one years ago.

It’s a bit bulky. I used this for skiing as I’ve had a knee replacement for additional security. You need loose fitting ski pants so that you can get them over the support. Worked really well giving good support and warmth. No rubbing or chaffing.

I got an ACL injury. I work as a labourer in the construction sector, moving heavy objects most days. The Shock Doctor brace was my second choice after a German brand, however delivery times were unacceptable as I needed it urgently or I wouldn’t be able to work. After 2 months of daily use for 10 hours a day, I can say it’s borne the stress very well, is comfortable all day, provides very good support and it has allowed me to start healing my knee injury successfully. It’s well made and has not deteriorated yet. It may not be the lowest profile however it fits under baggy work trousers just fine. The articulation is rigid enough but allows for movement without restriction or discomfort. The knee pad is very comfortable all day and keeps the knee straight to allow for recovery. I lift 30 kilo objects for hours a day and carry loads and my knee is able to cope. I recommend this knee brace especially for the price vs quality and features. I followed the advice on sizing and measurement and the brace fit very well. It does not restrict blood flow and does not overtly mark the skin. Well done Shock Doctor.

Bought for a ski trip as I couldn’t find my Bioskin brace. I have had two lots of knee surgery after a football injury, ACL repair and repair to back of kneecap. When skiing I used to rely on a brace and loads of Ibuprofen to stop the pain especially on bumpy icy tracks. I used this new brace in Zermatt for a week and I felt no knee pain the whole time I was there. Would recommend giving it a try as it worked really well for me.

Save my life while I’m waiting for an operation

It’s providing fantastic support to my knee. .

I’m waiting for a cartilage operation and the pain has been excruciating recently. Since wearing the new Support I have found I do need to use any painkillers whatsoever which is a godsend.

I would thoroughly recommend this product if you are suffering from no your joint pain or minor tears to your cartilage or ligament stretches or tendon issues.

So happy I chose to buy this product.

Bought for my OH, after a failed ACL surgery. It was a bulky under his trousers, but to be expected really.

Sadly after a few weeks he stopped wearing it and resorted to a less supportive aid, due to the embarrassing squeaking of the metal framework/hinge.

Other than that, it fit well (he’s got solid legs) and was getting him to correct his stride. Which was why it was purchased at the physios recommendation.

Having tried several other cheaper knee supports, I thought I’d bite the bullet and go for something a bit more expensive, and can honestly say that it was money well spent. Quality materials, superior comfort and the confidence in the support it provides have given me the confidence to walk unaided in the knowledge that my knee is totally stable whilst wearing this brace. I would highly recommend this brace to anyone with knee problems. 5*****

Following muscle damage to my knee, I purchased the Shock Doctor Ultra Knee support. It’s not the cheapest out there by a long shot, but it certainly helped me to move around and work pretty much as normal due to the great support it offers.

Used this as I have torn ligaments and cartilage in my knee. This support has been fabulous reducing my limp which was causing pain in my hip and massively reducing the pain in my knee. It has also given my leg more support making me feel more confident when walking and reducing my falls.

I am currently awaiting another knee op to lessen the pain of my torn meniscus.
This brace support has enhanced my ability to exercise whilst walking the dogs and has transformed my day to day experience of pain threshold reducing down from 9 to a 5.
Recommended Highly and after all other options previously tried, were disappointing .

I’ve always been active but had a knee op for a double meniscus tear nearly a year ago and the results were not great. My knee still holds a lot of fluid and remained painful even after months of physio. During the lockdown I decided to continue the therapy by woodland walking and I ordered the brace just to see if it would help with the general movement. Not only is my movement greatly improved but there is no pain when wearing it, and any post-walk pains I previously had are greatly reduced. I have been advised not to let my knee become too dependant on a brace so now I only wear it if taking a walk of more than 6k. Would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for the fact that the stitching does come away around the knee hole area after only a few wears. Given the cost, this is a negative as there are plenty of cheaper alternatives on the market now.

I measured up carefully, watched the video etc. Measured again and ordered the Medium as I came in .5cm into the bottom of medium. While it fitted the knew nicely there is no way I could fasten the lower strap – I guess I have big calves! The thigh side strap I could just do up.

So I returned the medium and ordered a large. This has been very good. The calf strap on me is about half way across. The thigh strap is nearly all the way across. If I want it done up tight for sport it is all the way across. It is bigger in the knee box, the medium was a better fit in that part of the brace.

It has given a little with a few weeks wearing but the L still fits OK. So maybe if I had pulled the M so tight that I cut off my circulation fo a few days it might have been OK in the long run.

Comfort wise, if you have ever worn any of the articulated neoprene braces you’ll know that comfort is a relative term. They are hot and sweaty (even if not using for sport) but if your knee is bad enough to need this type of support then this is a good one. Good level of support while recovering from a twisting injury that caused minor damage to ligament and cartilage.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersBought this along with another brace after a recent meniscus tear. Wore this mainly in the first 48 hours to protect the knee and avoid any further injury and it was brilliant. Just as good as the fibre glass braces from the hospital. Absolutely no movement in the knee joint and the slight compression helped to reduce the swelling.

I bought another, slightly smaller brace because I wanted to be able to get back out running as soon as possible. And I’m glad I did because I don’t think you could run comfortably in this for any sort of distance. It is definitely for rehab and recovery rather than activity but does the job brilliantly.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am middle aged female, petite. I have torn meniscus. I bought this brace after reading about many different braces. It’s the best money I ever spent and well worth paying extra for a decent brace. I got the medium but it was too big so I got the small. A few weeks in and it feels like part of my leg. I am 100% supported. I don’t do sports. I am delighted just to be able to walk around and do stuff. I am able to go out and have flown with it on. While I decide my next steps I am so glad I found this. Very sturdy but comfortable and a couple of weeks in has moulded to my leg shape. I hardly notice it. This is a 10/10 for me.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersIt’s so good I’ve brought a second one! Why? I’ve had the the first brace for 4years, brought awaiting surgery after tearing my left meniscus,(tried 2 different makes prior to shock doc), to keep working (I’m a plumber, so on & off my knees all day), it’s been absolutely superb, comfortable to wear all day, excellent support. After op, wore on return to work during rehab, also for sports, after op. I continued to wear for ‘heavy duty’ sports since op, skiing 6 times (brought a specialty ski knee support, very expensive, was really uncomfortable compared to shock doc so reverted to shock doc after 1st day), bike park Wales 3 times & over 20 Airsoft games- I mention this to give a good idea how good this support has been! It’s a little frayed now but still comfy. However I’ve now torn my right meniscus & the old brace has ‘shaped’ itself to my left knee.
So brought a new one for my right knee & guess what: it’s just as good!
Don’t look any further than this support, it’s superb!

After trying material compression supports with no success I didn’t hold up much hope with this one.
Ive never been so pleased to be wrong.
After a knee injury in Oct I’ve struggled to run longer than 10 mins before the pain got to much. An MRI later and no permanent damage found Ive been at a loss as to what else to try. This support is a godsend and I’m able to run with just the odd twinge and no pain afterwards.
This is my new best friend and well worth the extra cost 🙂

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersTore my median and anterior cruciate ligaments in a freak skiing accident last year. At the time and during my rehabilitation I feared that might be the end of skiing for me as the damaged knee feels significantly different to the other one. The main problem is that the structure of the knee feels “loose” despite a significant amount of physio and muscle training. Decided to give the Shock Doctor Ultra a try after reading positive reviews and crikey did it deliver. Just got back from a week in the Italian Alps and went skiing every day – the brace is comfortable, breathable, well designed so it can easily be worn under salopettes, and most importantly it gives incredible support which seems to stabilise the whole joint. Not a twinge even after a full day on the slopes. The hinges and cross brace straps really give you confidence that the original injury is being protected. Take care with sizing when ordering as my measurements put me right in the middle of the medium bracket but the brace is a really snug fit. Might be an idea to go up a size as you will still be able to adjust using the straps. I have also started wearing the brace whilst playing tennis and again it just gives you more confidence that the knee will not give way. Overall a great product that works brilliantly.

I purchased recently for a skiing holiday to support a recently arthritic knee with some muscular problems. In general the product support was excellent and I am in no doubt that without it I would not have been able to ski. As others have indicated the brace stays in place most of the time. The only small downside was that on one day I have to wear a thermal base under-layer and in that situation the brace did slip a small amount, presumably since the base layer is smoother than skin. It was easy to move back into place though.
In general I would fully recommend this product.

it seems a little bit tight at the beginning but after using it a few times it fits very well unless you choose the wrong size. So be careful to choose the right size and it will help a lot. I was using it mostly in a gym and I could run, do squats and deadlifts with no worries. I recommend to use it when you have any problems with ligaments, so your knee like to pop-in out or after knee surgery when you want to get back to exercising.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI ruptured my ACL 2 years ago at ski., I have had a graft but it’s still very sore.
I bought a 495.00 carbon ACL knee brace recommended by my physio but it didn’t fit me. I bought this one very last minute before going back skiing. (I was petrified!) the brace gave me total confidence with the hinges for and the neoprene sleeve kept the swelling down and was very comfortable. I wore it over my ski trousers (I like the idea of keeping other skiers away from me!). And my daughter said I looked like bionic woman! 🙂

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI received the shock doctor knee brace in perfect condition – in packaging and promptly. 10/10.

I had a knee operation in April 2018. I had a meniscus tear that ruptured some fluid sack between my knee bones on the outer side (for months i thought it was related to my IT band) and needed an operation. My surgeon performed key hole surgery and removed 20% of damaged cartilage. He told me I’d be on my feet running 10km runs in 6 weeks. I booked more work (I was working in the private security field) and got there limping at best. For all intents and purposes I could walk just fine, but any impact felt like a sharp sensitive pain – and immobilized me for a day or two with extreme swelling. 4/10 to my surgeon.

I took a gamble buying this and just finished my 2nd week running – zero swelling, zero pain. I think anyone who has had similar problems should really buy this. 10/10

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI have grade 2 injuries (serious) to the ACL and PCL on my left knee. I’m waiting for reconstructive surgery. The hospital supplied a Medi M.4s PCL Dynamic Brace (costing hundreds of pounds) which does a fantastic job of ensuring the tibia doesn’t move backwards due to the torn PCL. A top product!

Although the Medi brace is lightweight and relatively comfortable, it’s still hard to wear 24/7. Also, after a while it affects the soft tissues where pressure is applied.

I tried a simple, wrap-around neoprene knee support costing 15. As you’d expect it provided almost no forward support for the tibia. A waste of money for my needs.

This Shock Doctor Ultra Knee Support (silly name) is pretty good. Obviously nowhere as effective as the Medi brace, but gives support and confidence for moderate walking. I’m too scared of making the damage worse to try anything more ambitious. Definitely better than nothing and can be worn under jeans all day.

I needed to restart some kind of cardio exercises after several months away. I can’t run right now, and don’t enjoy cycling. So I’ve been wearing this in the pool (front crawl with no leg use). It works fine.

It’s well thought out and well made. Some reviewers said to go up a size. I measured 2″ below the patella as 37cm and got the Large (35-37.5cm). It’s very snug and I only just get it on and off, but I wouldn’t want to go up a size.

Wanted to give 4.5 stars. The product is great, straight forward to use. Guide is clear. I found the sizing runs slightly small. I measured as a large but ended up needing XL. Very comfortable to wear, provides great support, stays up on the quads well (didn’t have to readjust every 5 mins) downsides it can get a little sweaty, it is a tad bulky. But overall great product for such a low price for that kind of aid. If the product could provide same support on thinner materials/less bulk 5 star no probs. Still a great buy

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWell built and they are properly proportioned for my xxl knees.

Don’t listen to those saying you need a larger size, but you do need a decent amount of strength to get them off.

I’ve tried various approaches to my poor knees: patella tendinitis, bursitis, little cartilage left etc etc; wraps, neoprene sleeves of various types. These shock docs beat them all as soon as I put them on.

I will update after playing American football on the weekend.

Update: after several weeks practice and a couple of games I can inform you that these knee supports are of great quality. They have not shown any disrepair past the occasional scrape.

I have to tighten the straps as the game goes on to maintain compression on the patella tendon.

They have made me able to play and train properly again.

The sizing was bang on. Maybe it’s just the other users don’t have the strength to put them on and take them off.

    100% recommend.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersThis product has been amazing for the numerous times that I have used it. I have had reconstructive ACL (hamstring tendon repair) and was recommended this by my surgeon. Although more expensive than many on the market, it is worth it! Within weeks I was using it to do simple walks and found that the increased support made me much more confident on my feet. I will do another review once I am able to run!

The only thing I would say is that initially I ordered a M, but had to replace with a L. My knee circumference is in the M bracket, but my quads are a too big for that size (former competitive rugby player and cyclist) so bear that in mind. I managed to change to the bigger size no problem.

It’s comfortable, even after hours of use, and simple to wash.

I bought this to replace a Donjoy Goldpoint brace which I used for many years (I used it for skiing after completely rupturing a medial knee ligament playing rugby). The Donjoy did its job very well but it was very bulky and rather awkward. – The Shock Doctor is basically similar in design (i.e there are sturdy metal hinges on either side of the knee joint) but it smaller more, comfortable to wear and appears to be of good quality.
I wore the Shock Doctor for the first time to go skiing this morning and I am completely satisfied with it. The snow conditions were quite difficult but I felt complete confidence in my new purchase.
I should add, these comments are completely unbiased. – I have not been offered and I have neither have I requested, any inducement for what is clearly a pretty positive review

Had to purchase largest size (6ft, 15 stone male with reasonable slim legs) ~ I thought this might turn out to be extravagant waste. In contrast, the product was absolutely superb. Have nursed persistent knee injury for 25 years and, from experience, aware that demands of mountain trekking typically leads to injury flaring up and taking months to heal. Item supplied rapidly, sizing instructions were spot on and practical use was far better than dared to hope. Extremely comfortable; much better than neoprene sleeve, which wrinkles behind keen and causes nasty sores. Used this Shock Doctor throughout demanding Mountain Leader (ML) assessment in foul weather in North Wales and found it remarkably effective; no sign of pain or aggravated injury despite very arduous trekking/mountain climbing/descent. Thoroughly recommended as an absolute god-send.

Brilliant. After flying into a mountain in Spain, the operation to mend my broken leg badly affected my knee. Coupled with early arthritis, it was very painful to crouch down and get up. My other knee is also very painful on crouching and I recently pulled the muscles behind this knee. My leg muscles have been markedly reduced because I could not exercise.

After strapping this knee brace to my left leg, the pain was very much reduced so that I could immediately crouch down and get up again.

So I’ve ordered a second one for my right knee.

I’m looking forward to building my muscles back up.

I cannot say how long they will last but they are certainly much cheaper than a course of sports therapy.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is my 2nd as I have ACL reconstruction on both the left and right knees. Its a great brace, the most comfortable I’ve worn!
I ordered mine from Core medical as it was the cheapest and as I already had one I knew it was the best support I could buy. At the time of order I wasn’t too bothered about the potential long delivery but I was surprised to see it was free delivery, well it was advertised free at that time. Unfortunately though once in the UK it wasn’t released until I’d paid the 8 customs charge which according to Amazon is the recipients responsibility.
To be fair to Core though they communicated very quickly and resolved a Royal mail fee I also got charged. Perhaps Core could just make the customs charge a little more obvious when ordering so you know what you are paying.
Got my brace now and I’m happy with how everything was resolved.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWill seem tight as a sleeve opposed to a wrap around but I tried the bigger size which was also tight even tho the hinges were far too big and once I’d broken it in it was fine, stick to the guide chart!

As for the quality of the product, not only was it extremely well made but it did it’s job better than I could’ve ever imagined.
I did some minor ligament damage about 4 years ago and have since caused cartilage damage from multiple further injuries resulting from the 1st, some skiing, some drunken dancing, some simply running, the knee just crumbles underneath me. It doesn’t hurt but I won’t be able to get up for a few minutes or walk properly for a couple of days. Every time the knee gets weaker causing injuries to occur easier and more often but more to the point I could no longer ski for more than a few hours at a time before it was too weak and the other leg was burning from doing all the work.

From the moment I put this support on I felt indestructible again and even had a little go in the park for the 1st time in a couple of years!
I actually used the phrase “It’s like having a new knee” to my friend.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFantastic knee brace. I brought this when my knee was giving me some trouble on runs over 5k. It really seemed to do the job. Its fit is good. Takes a minute or 2 to get on and do up but once on does give a good amount of support to the knee.
It is comfortable when on. I started off easy only wearing it for an hour during normal walking around. Slowly building the time up before using it for a run.
During running it is comfortable and after the first 5 minutes I forgot I had it on. My knee felt supported without impacting my running technique. Has really helped and now I dont really use it but that is because I dont have the trouble that I used to. I will always keep it around though as if I get any more knee trouble I will get it straight back on.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI bought two of these for my gammy knees, although I only need to use one regularly when cycling. I’ve been carrying a partially torn ACL for a few years which, although not bad enough to operate on, still gives me grief. After having experienced lots of post-cycling pain, and a neoprene knee sleeve that was only partially effective, I thought I’d give these a crack. Well, all I can say is that in the space of a week, I feel like I’m in my early 20s again! The compression & support are absolutely wonderful, and the hinge completely prevents hyperextension. The support fits like a glove and doesn’t come loose (make sure you get the straps nice and tight – doesn’t affect comfort – just prevents slippage). The support is very mobile and doesn’t restrict movement in any way – it feels like some kind of orthotic device that should cost a lot more than it does. I only wish I’d had one of these for the past ten or so years.

Recommended for high impact sports but for long term
I have used it for 4 months and I really love it because for me it has provided both physical and psychological support. I am rugby union player and I have not gotten restrictions I can completly bend my knee and run fast. The design of the back allow breath my knee and I have washed in wash/dryer machine without problems
However the ears designed to pull it up and fit it in the knee failed since the first month, of course this zone needs better construction. Moreover the worst part was that after two months, the metalic bar broken the seam, where it is placed, and now the tip of the bar came out.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI’ve had an unstable right knee for over ten years. I decided to play basketball again after many years of not playing. I initially used a larger cumbersome hinged knee support which did provide me with protection but was very bulky. I took a shot with the Shock Doctor knee support after reading the reviews. It is much less bulky. It also feels very supportive. I have had no problems with it so far. Very comfortable. I was initially worried about sizing because I was I between a medium and large size. I opted for the large. It fits fine. Although I think next time I may opt for medium as I can see the support may start to stretch over prolonged wear. Ultimately a very good purchase. Highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving reviewed a number of knee supports, I went for the Shock Doctor hinged support. I have had no problem with the sizing, as some reviewers seem to have had. I am using it in a preventative role, as, at 63, my left knee is showing signs of ligament weakness and I have no wish to stop skiing or roller-blading until I have to. Some reviewers have been concerned with rubbing at the rear of the knee, but so far the fabric is providing adequate prevention and I am not finding that a problem. The product is giving me good support and after a few minutes of use, I forgot I was wearing it and could perform all my usual manoeuvres.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our Usershis a great knee support which I bought to replace the one that the hospital gave me after I recovered from my accident at work 7 years ago in which I suffered a Tibial plateau fracture to my left knee, which is basically a crushed knee joint. this gives the same support to my knee as my old knee support which I was so glad about, it gives me full movement and I can walk for long distances with out pain. and helps keep the knee warm in the cold weather, as soon as I put it on the pain I may have had before putting it on goes which is so reassuring, the only thing I would suggest is that when you measure up for it go for the size up from what it suggest as the first one I ordered was a bit tight , and also you must measure 2″ below the centre of your knee cap this is what I found out on the shock doctor web site. its quick to put on , just step into it and slid it up over your knee and centre it on your knee cap and adjust the bottom then the top strap so comfortable. also just to finish it is a high quality product and is well worth the price, its well made.
