I love gadgets and for under $20 this was an impulse buy. It’s a great tool and looks, feels and operates like a quality tool for wind measurements. I have only cracked the surface of the other features, but it’s a nice tool to have for wind measurements for my drone. Or even just goofing around checking airflow of my furnace or driving down the road on a ebikes.

If you need it, get it. If like me and curious about gadgets and tech, get it. It’s cheap enough and built well.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI had purchased ANOTHER BRAND which quickly malfunctioned… I replaced it and it happened again. :-/
I looked at the specifications to the TOPTES TS-301 and it looked perfect so I ordered it. I was not disappointed. I’m building a wind-tunnel and I needed to be able to calibrate it with an accurate measurement… this unit was very accurate when I got in my car and tested it at different speeds, so I tried it in the wind-tunnel. It works perfectly and I will be able to complete my project now!!! (See the attached video.)

There are so many good things to say about this anemometer.

It’s compact and rectangular, so it fits well in your hand and fits nicely in a bag/drawer/toolbox. I already have too many oddly shaped tools taking up space.

It came with three Duracell AAA batteries, not some cheapo no-name cells. Even I’m too cheap to buy Duracells.

It measures wind, temperature, and humidity, and has a backlight that stays on until you turn it off.

The eight-bladed prop is small but appears well-balanced, and the wind readings are measured to two decimal places.

The detailed manual doesn’t have obvious translation errors, which suggests it was edited by a human who is fluent in English.

The velvet slipcase fits like a glove.

My point is that everything feels intentional and purposeful. They didn’t just grab a random slipcase and toss it in the box, or scan the manual with a translation app and call it a day.

So, why not five stars? Because of one glaring issue: it falls over too easily. This anemometer is tall and skinny, which is great for portability and not so great for staying upright. Blow on it too hard and it’s a domino. It should have a tripod thread and/or a built-in stabilizer.

That’s no big deal for me–I’ll just make a stabilizer with my 3D printer. I’m just surprised that the designers didn’t account for this problem, considering how much thought they put into everything else.

Overall, this is a great tool.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI really liked the fact this had temp and RH built in and a nice shaped unit. When I first tested it out it worked as intended. 1 week later I took it to the range and it failed almost completely. It was 80F out and 29.9Rh humidity according to the weather app and my buddy’s kestrel. However this was telling me it was 9 F outside

I was forced to abandon it after trying for 20 minutes and returned it for another one. Hopefully the replacement won’t let me down again too.

***update is customer service is top notch absolutely awesome. I found the reason for the error was only because the display couldn’t handle showing temp over 99.9 and was actually reading 109.0 but displayed 09.0 as it was in the sun. I let them know about the decimal place display error causing confusion and they forwarded it to their designer to implement the fix.

Bottom line is it’s working but was only readable for xx.x and if you know that you’re good to go and knowing their customer service is great is a extreme bonus! Can’t wait to see the new update design!!!

Bought this on sale. It is great for the price. I don’t know how accurate it is since I don’t have a “known good” anemometer to compare it with, but it does seem accurate and precise enough for hobbyist use — the readings seemed reasonable and repeatable.

After replacing our HVAC system, I added a few air returns to help balance the higher velocity supply air, and I needed a more useful measurement than putting my hand or a tissue in front of the grilles. The “max” and “average” measurements were quick, easy, and reproducible. I was able to knock that off my todo list and feel confident about the results (finally). I like that the carrying case is stiff in order to better protect the fan blades, no worries about pocketing the pouch.

The meter seems accurate and very easy to use. No complaints on its core functionality.

Side Note: I didn’t like the loud beep it made on every key press, so I unsoldered the buzzer from the circuit board. It still works fine without buzzer in the circuit. Just thought I’d mention it for anyone who similarly wants a quieter tool for the cost of voiding the warranty.

I like this handy little machine. We live in the mountains with frequent high winds (up to 80 mph!) and I’d love to have a web-connected weather station but this is much cheaper and handy to have. I can also throw it in my saddlebags and take it camping with me so I can see how cold it is when I’m hanging in my hammock in the middle of winter. The buttons can sometimes be a pain but otherwise it works great.

Easy to use, works great! I would have liked a memory function, but this is minor. (There’s always an old school solution – a pen and paper!) I use it when we walk in our very windy park. I was always curious as to what the wind speed was, since it is so open and the gusts can physically stop your forward motion. It keeps me entertained while my wife and I exercise.

It works well and having tested against 2 other calibrated temperature gauges it is pretty accurate (+/- 1).

I’m using it for temperature, not wind. Because of that I wish the temperature could be displayed in the LARGE FONT digits but sadly it is displayed in the smaller digits. That’s why I didn’t give it total 5 stars. You will love this little easy to use device!

Got this unit to take accurate windspeed readings at ground level before piloting a drone. Very pleased with it, the large clear LCD screen is very easy to read , the unit is easy to use and features the ability to measure windspeed in either metres per second , feet per second or knots. The unit is very compact and light, well put together and accurate and responsive. It will measure anything from a very slight breeze to gale force. Requires alkaline batteries that I have not yet needed to replace so seems economical with its power requirements

Been using this to track where are the more sheltered bits of my garden. We’ve got a very old orange tree that lives in a pot and during the last storm we needed to find somewhere were it wouldn’t be battered by the wind.

This did the job really well. It was easy to use, Just turn it on and it starts to gather data. Over time it will calculate the peak wind speed and also the average. So I turned it on, left it alone for a few mins and was able to start charting where it was the calmest.

I received this item through the Amazon Vine programme.
This is a well-featured and well made budget anemometer: it comes with a soft pouch and batteries included in the package.
My granddaughter’s school has a weather station set-up and I took this unit along to show her: I was impressed by how sensitive and accurate the unit is in use.
Easy to read screen, adjustable criteria for the readout plus a backlight.
It’s lightweight and can be operated one-handed and it has a power-save function if it’s not used for approx 10 mins.
The build quality is good, I have other instruments from TopTes and have found them to be solid and reliable for the price paid.
At the time of review this unit retails for 22.99 and there is an additional discount voucher for 5% available, which makes it a good buy.

Surprisingly, this “TopTes TS-301 Digital Anemometer” works reasonably well, it isn’t 100% accurate, and there is no calibration feature, but it is still a decent entry level device for a hobbyist who is on a tight budget. We took the Anemometer to a local model aircraft flying club for an opinion, and although it paled in comparison to the equipment being used on the day, it got an all round thumbs up from the club members, especially considering the price (currently 19.99).

My boss at work has a bust so I knew he would love to test and review it.

    In his words:
I cannot commend the TS-301 Digital Anemometer to you enough. It is easy to use from the outset, as it is supplied with three good quality gold and black coloured batteries. No need to scrabble around to find spare batteries. The digital display is clear and concise and has the ability to be modified to your preferred units of measurement. That includes the temperature facility.
The backlight ensures it can be used at 24 hours a day.

The item is protected with a suede effect bag and is light weight so can be easily carried in the pocket, or in a kit bag.

Finally, it is simple and quick to use and ideal for the novice right through to the seasoned expeditioner or mariner. Switch on, choose your unit of measurement and point in the direction of the wind. It cannot get easier than that!

Sounds like a resounding yes to this digital Anemometer as per “Captain James”

I hope you found this review helpful

This wind speed meter has a nice easy to read display and works really well. I like that you get the temperature reading as well. It’ll be great for anyone who wants to get a drone, or who does sailing or just wants to decide whether to have a bonfire or not.

This gadget comes with a storage pouch, and I was really impressed that it also came with batteries (Duracells no less!) – so many things like this don’t! It would be nice if it were rechargeable via USB but still good to have the included batteries. It automatically powers off after a few minutes too, so will save power that way.

For the price, currently 19.99, I think this is very reasonable for what you get. Recommended.

This anemometer is very easy to use and has a clear display with backlight for use in the dark. It measures in various different units and has minimum, maximum and average features. There is a tripod bush on the back to mount it for a more secure fixture. Batteries are included as is a soft carry case.

It measures down to surprisingly low wind speeds and seems to be as accurate as expected for the price point – I am unable to say exactly how accurate but it seems to correlate well with some professional meters close to my work.

Ideal for sailors, drone operators, kite flyers and other people who need a quick and accurate assessment of wind speeds.

This anemometer is very compact in size, comes with batteries and a handy little pouch. The instructions are straight forward along with the buttons. I fly drones and although I do have apps to help with weather conditions and wind, I have found this to be an essential part of my kit. It gives out accurate readings on the spot and I know the wind will be a lot stronger up in the air for my drone so I can roughly get a reading.
Small and slim enough to fit in my flying kit bag.

This is a wonderful machine. Easy to use and fits nicely into the hand. My only complaint is that it takes a good few minutes to register the correct temperature/humidity. Once there it is pretty accurate.

I liked it; it uses AAA instead of CR2032. It is relatively compact and depending on what you want to use, it is fine!

This will come in really handy for us because we go sailing and also like to take the drone out, so the wind is a very important factor in both activities. Also gives you the temperature and humidity readings, this would be great to use for so many different jobs, activities.

Price of 19.99 is excellent value, highly recommended

This Digital Anemometer comes with batteries a pouch and of course instructions. The unusual thing is the battery compartment has a screw you need to loosen to get inside. I was curious how it would measure the suction of my vacuum cleaner and was very surprised to find out that it sucks at 140km, I have another Digital Anemometer but that does not read wind speeds as high as this. I am quite impressed with this. The temperature and humidity readings are a bonus.

    Does what it says.

Nice Anemometer. Made well and works as it should.

Comes supplied with Duracell batteries which is good for this price point. I would like a clip on the battery cover instead of a screw, if you are out in the wilderness with this thing you won’t be changing them over unless you happen to be carrying a Swiss army knife as well.

However, the screen is easy to read and the product is simple to use.

Light in weight and easy to understand and use.
If wind speed is important to you for work, outside sports or even just for interest this will do what you require.
Under the fan there are buttons for off and on, A button for C or F. Temperature and humidity.
Max/Min. Also switches itself off. Comes with a soft draw string bag. Feels nicely made and with care should last for years. What you have is the answer to all your outside activities in one instrument.
One thing you do need is a very small Phillips screwdriver to allow you into the battery compartment.

Grey and orange hand held air flow meter
With a Clear led screen and includes 3 AA Duracell battery’s which was a nice touch
There’s a quick start guide to get you up and running and clear
it’s fairly well made although mostly from plastic it feels robust though and includes a little protective case for storage there’s a few rubber buttons that all respond as intended and enable some metrics
It also turns itself off after a while if left unused which is good but could effect long tests, you would need to keep that in mind
Theres also a low battery warning though Duracell battery’s in this should last quite a while even with a lot of use
I like to test a lot of products including home fans, PC fans etc and this is very helpful when measuring air flow in PC cases and so forth but could be used in 100s of cases even to get a wind check on a range

The digital anemometer is one of many small hand held units now available. It comes with a large screen and and the usual measurements of temperature, humidity and of course wind speed. The meter comes in a well protected box that includes 3 3AAA batteries and soft carry case.

The battery compartment is accessed via a screw down cover. The single screw is a small Philips and it has no retainer, so be careful not to lose it. ON start up the meter gives a loud beep and the screen shows current temperature and relative humidity.

I tested the meter with a small air pump (see my video). I noted that the screen is large, but not high definition. The backlight function helps a lot to show the readings clearly. Curiously, there are several measurement scales for wind speed but no Beaufort reading. This is odd, because there is a graphic scale, just not marked in Beaufort readings.

It has a nice feature of remembering not only your selected scale, but also the last readings, so you do have some idea of trend, although there are no history memories in this model. Is it worth buying? Yes, if you need a wind speed reading and you want a compact easy to use model. Ideal for weather buffs, sailing walking, drones flying, or monitoring your turbine generator efficiency.

The anemometer is powered by 3 x AAA’s (provided but a small screwdriver is required to get the battery cover open).

It has no wrist lanyard or tripod mount and is an unusual shape having no real round handle.

In operation it works well including storing maximum wind speed.

The backlight works well, a full range of speed units to pick from and quite a large user manual that does not fit in the draw string carry pouch.

Really big screen which is very easy to read even outdoors in sunlight.

I really like this little meter, it is remarkable value for money, at the time of writing it is just 19.99 and for this you get a solid feeling meter that fits in the hand well, has a variety of units for displaying the speed and can give an average over a period of time and also displays temperature and humidity. They even include three Duracell AAA batteries.

It is very easy to use and claims to be very accurate, I don’t have a calibrated unit to check it against, but the readings seem sensible. The screen is very clear and easy to read and the controls are simple and inutitive.

It arrives in a box with a soft carrying case/bag and the batteries. The only slight negative is that the battery compartment is secured with a little screw which isn’t captive, so it would be easy to lose it if changing batteries out in the field.

But overall for anyone who is interested in the weather, or has any other reason to want to measure airflow, extraction systems for example, this is a great little meter.

For those that are flying model airplane or drones this could be a handy little tool.

Most small drones have restrictions on how well they will fly/hold position given particular wind speeds. With this tool you can record the maximum windspeed of your session, and use this as a good indicator for how well/comfortable your future sessions might be.

The tool comes in a decent cardboard box, includes a little pouch for storage of the anemometer. The Instructions are clear and there are batteries supplied to get the tool working. All that is required is a small phillips screwdriver, and some wind.

The LCD screen is large and easy to read. The temperature and humidity readings are easy to find. (they do show a lot clearer than some of my pictures suggest).

The tool in its basic use is very easy to use. Press the on button, and the temperature, humidity and the speed of the wind rotating the fan blades is shown on the screen.

I can confirm that the temperature and humidity values are roughly what other digital devices are reading for my indoor and outdoor units, which is a good sign.

There are a couple of handy functions on the anemometer. By default it turns itself off after 10 minutes, in case you forgot to. This feature can be disabled by pressing and holding the light button as you press the power button to turn it on. This would be most useful in conjunction with the min/max function, which helps to measure gusts easily.

The backlight is also handy, but I wonder how often I would be using it if visibility was that poor.

I am not so happy with the irritating beep that happens on every button press. It isn’t like you are going to keep this thing in your pocket whilst it is on. But I can live with i

I’ve tested this with the intention of getting a drone at some point, it seems well made and is very sensitive, the readout display appears large and easily read, though you may need to tilt the device to read it properly in bright conditions.

It arrives in a box with detailed instructions and requires 3 x AAA batteries to operate, of which 3 x AAA branded batteries are actually included in the box. A nice surprise.

How much use you derive from this product will depend on what you use it for, you’re lifestyle and hobbies. It’s suitable for flying, kiting, drones, sailing, shooting etc and probably a load of other outdoor sports and tasks i failed to mention.

This wind meter has the added bonus of an additional temperature and humidity sensor, which could also prove useful, for the price currently sub 20 this is essential purchase even for the non outdoor sport fan and nice to have, if only for that odd occasion when you might just need it.

I have had the opportunity to test 2 of these against each other (same model, different colour – an orange one and a green one) – and the displayed results between the 2 were extremely close

    More detail … the +ve’s:
    Very sensitive wind detection ()
    Different units or measure ()
Relative Humidity & Temperature readings ()
    Easy to use backlight ()
    Good Min/Max feature ()
Easy to hold and use one handed ()
The 3 required batteries are INCLUDED ()
I don’t have a calibrated Anemometer to test its accuracy, but I did test against 2 another one of the exactly the same model – I found both Anemometers gave near enough the same readings wrt to both temperature and wind speed – they will never be the same but I was expected and in deed saw, the readings between the 2 Anemometers were really close.
So cannot say if they are accurate, but can say they are consistent between different physical units – and that’s a big positive to have that consistency ()

    More detail … the -ve’s ():
My main negative is the display angle – in order to have a good contrasted readout, you need to tilt the unit away from your eyeline, or look at it with it raised above your eyeline
The battery cover is secured with a very small screw – appreciate this is needed to help seal the battery compartment from moisture, but there should be a small screwdriver included as part of the package

Overall, at 19.99 (November 2022), I would say that is good value (especially as this green version seems to be cheaper than the orange version).
Despite the display could be better, I can accept having to either tilt or hold the display up to get a good contrasted reading display, happy to rate this a solid 4 **** imho and would recommend.

Well featured, well made & works really well - consistent readings across different devices 👍

This is an impressive piece of kit, starting with the packaging and continuing onto the unit itself. The unit fits perfectly in the hand – the screen is a great size, and easy to read at a glance – especially with the backlit feature. Supplied with 3 AAA batteries and a case it is great to check on weather conditions for a range of outdoor sports – I keep it in my drone case to check conditions before a flight – highly recommended.

This is a handy little piece of tech that is about the size of a mobile phone so easy to pop in your pocket or car. It is supplied with batteries to get you started you will need a small Phillips screwdriver to fit them.

In use this is really intuitive you don’t really need the instructions. All the buttons are self explanatory and the readings appear to be accurate. What I would say is if you’re wanting this to read humidity it really only reads humidity of wind and the reading in a room is very different ‘still’ verses ‘moving’ as there is no built in fan to filter the air around it as you have on a dehumidifier for example.

Currently less than 30 I think this is a great little buy and I’m happy to recommend it to others.

    Intuitive & easy to use.

This is ideal for drone operators to be able to measure wind speed without breaking the bank. It displays the wind speed in a number of different units, depending on your preference. It will also display temperature and humidity, which I won’t need personally, but could be useful if using this for other purposes.

Power is from three AAA batteries (Duracells are provided). Unfortunately they are in a compartment that requires a tiny screwdriver. Not a problem at home, but it does mean that if you are going out it is not enough to pack spare batteries; you will need to pack a tiny screwdriver as well. Maybe it would have been better to have an internal battery and USB charging, but otherwise a way to open up the battery compartment without tools would have been an improvement.

Apart from that, no complaints. The unit is not too bulky or heavy and seems to be accurate. I imagine it could be handy for anybody who does shooting or archery or sailing and really worth having if you are going to be flying expensive drones.

This is a well designed and manufactured bit of kit. The fan works down to very low windspeeds and the readings are consistent. It is easy to use, with well thought out features and controls such as back light, holding the value in the display so you can take readings in places where you can’t actually see the display, several units for windspeed eg m/s, knots, km/hr, optional auto power off and a useful temperature/humidity display too. Also, it comes with comprehensive instructions in good English. The manufacturer has obviously taken time and trouble to make this a quality product, it even comes with its own little drawstring bag to carry it in. I’ve no way of checking the calibration accurately but I see no reason to doubt the readings. Overall, an impressive, quality bit of kit. 10/10

I sail and fly a drone – so this is useful to me in two contexts. It is of a size that makes it easy to slip in your bag. I work in knots (that was how I was taught navigatation) and this covers that. I don’t really have anything to calibrate this against – other than local forecasts and my own knowledge. I know what 10 Knots feels like and this seems to back that up. I am pretty pleased with it and the price seems reasonable.

This is a good quality anemometer for the price, the display is nice and clear and even has a good bright backlight that you can switch on and off.
It’s a doddle to use and seems pretty accurate when compared to local readings.
The little carry bag is cool.
It comes complete with the 3 AAA batteries needed to power it too which is a bonus.

Always a useful tool to have in the bag for commercial drone work to ensure you fly safely.

    Handy for drone flying

This seems like a simple but effective device in a relatively small, rugged package. The fan on top is quite small compared to some anemometers, and this may impact accuracy at slower wind speeds. As far as I am aware there is no way to save historic measurements, and no external connectivity. As a standalone device this is pretty handy and will easily fit in a pocket. I can see this being a great help for flying model enthusiasts, long range target shooting, sailing, etc…
It takes 3x AAA batteries (included) and will require a small crosshead screwdriver to install them.
Units can be changed with the press of a button and the backlight is subtle but useful in dark environments.

Measure temperature, humidity and windspeed in one easy package.

I got this for my science inquisitive 11 year old so we could make up some wind based experiments. He loves it, it gives the wind measurements in different formats so he can pick what’s best for his requirements. I can see many hours of fun will be had by us with this.

    Very good

I don’t have a calibrated Anemometer to test its accuracy, but I do have another Anemometer – cheaper than this one. There is a difference between the 2, but I am tending to believe THIS Anemometer more, as the blade movement & sensitivity is much smoother and the overall build quality is better compared to my other Anemometer… so I will be using this one now.

Well featured, well made and works really well - displayable readout angle could be better ❗❓
