Airfix A12007 Gloster Javeli

MJ

The Gloster Javelin was developed in the 1950s as a two-seat, all weather interceptor. Serving with the RAF during the late 1950s and much of the 1960s, the Javelin was the last aircraft to bear the Gloster name. A distinctive fighter, the Javelin was equipped with a broad delta wing and a large finned T-Tail. Its cannons were placed in the wing, harking back to an earlier era of fighter development, but its missile armament was cutting edge. Progressing through 9 marks in a short career, the Javelin had a troubled development, with its only action coming during the Malayan campaign from 1963-1966.

I’ve been waiting for this kit for over a year and all the review are true this is a great kit. No flash, great detail and an example of a classic beautiful British aircraft. It was worth the wait.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOnce you start it, you can’t out it down. Another homerun by Airfix. Beautifully engineered with perfect fit of all parts. Straight forward construction. Highly detailed without all the fuss found in other high end model company kits.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Usersmy first airfix kit with the new tooling they can’t stop yelling about, well they’ve got something to yell about. I normally buy airfix for more casual modelling and stuff like revell and italeri for more accurate kits. Airfix almost beats them as the quality is the same if not better and italeri would be charging 50-70 for something like this. Airfix simplicity with italeri detail. The cockpit detail was great, the only disappointment was the lack of pilot. I used a revell phantom pilot and tweaked his attire to resemble British pilots of the era. To make this model even better I’m planning to buy some 1:48 hasewaga ground crew to make a diorama, these also are American but some small tweaking of detail and a different paint scheme will fix that. Overall I loved this kit, the decals are smooth and the missiles are great. I did deepen the panel lines a bit but other than that exterior detail was great. The only reason I would recommend this to experienced modellers is because lesser modellers might not do it justice.

This model was exactly what I was looking for and expected! I’ll probably buy it again whenever it’s released after new-tooling in the future. It’s definitely worth the cost and makes an ideal gift. I’d recommend it to my friends.
