I recently purchased the hohem iSteady Pro 4 3-Axis Action Camera Gimbal Stabilizer, and I am blown away by its performance. I primarily use it with my Hero 11, but it is also compatible with a wide range of other action cameras, including the DJI OSMO Action and the Insta360 One R. The gimbal is very easy to set up and use, and it provides incredibly smooth and stable footage. The updated design of the iSteady Pro 4 is also a major improvement over the previous version, with a more compact and lightweight form factor that is easier to carry and use.
The gimbal has a wide range of shooting modes, including pan follow, lock mode, and full-range angle mode, which allow me to capture a variety of different shots and perspectives. It also has a built-in joystick and other controls, which make it easy to adjust the gimbal settings on the fly. The Hohem iSteady Pro 4 is a fantastic gimbal. This stabiliser is compatible with Hero, Sony RXO and other action cameras with a maximum size of (H: 51mm & D: 30mm). All of the accessories are included. The bag, in particular, is beautiful and very handy for keeping all the items secure.

It has a long 14-hour battery life.
The device can also be used as a power bank to charge the camera while filming. It charges quickly and can be charged with a regular Type-C android charging cable. There are so many modes in the app, which is a must to maximise the gimbal’s capabilities. The provided QR code can be scanned to download it. However, the app does demand registration with an email address.
Overall, a fantastic gimbal for the price.
I have been using an earlier Hohem gimbal for a while with my smartphone and found it to be decent quality. Given my happy experience with this one, it made sense to look at Hohem when I was looking for a gimbal for my action camera. My camera is a budget branded (Crosstour) one with the lens on the front right, the power/mode button on the front right and the LCD covering the whole of the rear. This means that the camera needs to be mounted across the middle. Luckily this is exactly how the gimbal holds the camera, with a strap from top to bottom – this is spring loaded to allow for different depths of camera. The LCD area is also fully visible so you can see what you are recording accurately.
Having used it now for around a month, it matches the quality of my smartphone gimbal and holds the camera well when moving around. The end result is a smooth video that looks much more professional than just a normally held camera.
The gimbal itself is a handheld type with a built-in battery that lasts for a long time (around 3 hours in real use). You can also use the built-in battery to charge a mobile phone, although this will seriously reduce the battery life. The handle has full controls for pan/tilt/mode and the side has 4 LEDs showing the battery life. There are four modes that allow you to use the gimbal just the way you want and can also be controlled using the partner mobile application (this has improved considerably compared to the one my older gimbal used initially). One of the nice features is that you can remotely control things like the joystick from the app. You do not need to use the app though as the gimbal works out of the box. The four modes are:
1. Pan Follow – the gimbal follows the movement without rolling or tilting.
2. Pan & Tilt Follow – similar to above but allowing the camera to tilt with movement but locked roll.
3. Locked – this locks the gimbal and allows you to control where the movement goes to more.
4. POV – unlocks all directional movement and allows you to create some unusual effects.
The default is Pan Follow and for most use I have found this to be the best mode to use – at least until I become more proficient in using it.
You get a few accessories – a tripod foot to use when using the smartphone app remotely and some cables for charging it and for connecting to your smartphone. There is also a case that has indents in the bottom, so the gimbal gets held securely in place. I wish the case had somewhere to store the action camera as well though so this can also be held securely in the case – it can be held in the gimbal but for my camera, this pushed out on the case.
I do have one minor complaint. When first switched on with my lightweight camera mounted, there is some vibration coming from the gimbal for around 1-2 minutes. It stops quicker if you move the gimbal around a bit, so I suspect it is trying to perform some sort of calibration – with no camera mounted this is a lot more noticeable and never seems to stop for me.
If you are looking for a gimbal to use with an action camera and don’t want to spend too much, this is a good value gimbal that works well and helps you make stable videos.
Easy set up and great to use on my GoPro
My Oh was very pleased with this Gimbal and says it is excellent for the price.
He took it out to use with a GoPro and found it very easy to use.
Set up with the app on his iPhone was simple and response is perfect.
Stabilisation is easily as good as much more expensive models, working well in high winds up a munro in Scotland
It works happily in all weathers, even coping with the rain and snow on the high peaks.
The Gimbal is sturdy and solidly built. Comfortable to hold and light enough for continued use

I should start by saying I hadn’t heard of hohem and I’ve never tried anything they’ve made before. This is super easy to use and is the most robust and steady gimbal I’ve tried with my GoPro. I’ve used it in lovely Scottish autumn weather (howling wind and lashing rain) and it definitely not only withstood the water but also I’d say was a lot more stable than my previous gimbal. Even when laughing like a lunatic to the point I was shaking, the footage filmed wasn’t too shaky. I’m very pleased and impressed and I’d definitely recommend this company.
What a great Gimble for the price! It’s incredibly sturdy and well built and has a very good battery life. After an initial full charge I’ve used it daily for a week and it’s still holding charge. It took me a while to learn how to use it but I watched lots of videos and once I got the hang of it, everything seems to working well. It fits into my hand comfortably and the stabilization is fantastic – and no need to calibrate, which is a huge advantage. The controls are easy to use and a large range of features, not all of which I’ve got round to using yet.
It really is amazing value for money and I would highly recommend.
If you are wanting to document your adventures but with a little more professionalism, this is for you!

It feels relatively good quality but function wise- it does the job exactly as described! Has really nice angles available & a very respectable rechargeable battery capacity.
