I was looking for a hybrid between trainers and boots for walking/hiking with my dogs in different terrains. These are the best shoes I’ve owned. Fit is true to size with no pinching or blistering anywhere. Worth every penny.

Light, comfortable straight away but the inner sole bobbled after only wearing them a few times.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’m lucky enough every day to take our beautiful and adorable and very cheeky miniature schnauzer for two walks. As any dog parent will know, the true test of walking shoes is wet grass. Well, these have passed. My little tootsies were bone dry, even after deliberately stomping in a puddle (doggy looking on in embarrassment). Smashing shoes. Buy some immediately.

These are my second pair of Merrell walking trainers, just love the fit, light to wear, and reliable in all weathers, I’ve walked miles in my last pair and never a blister or wet feet.

Merrell walking shoes are the best you can buy for comfort and durability. I think this pair is probably my 6th pair.

Boots arrived yesterday and I christened them today. Cannot believe how comfortable they are. All my other boots/trainers have caused my feet to be very painful following a long walk; these are a blessing. Definitely recommend.

I bought a size4. They don’t make 4.5 in this boot. 4 fits really well

Shoes were well priced and packed perfectly and delivered extremely quickly, very happy. I’ve had the shoes before so I knew they were very comfortable and wearable from day one

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTrue to size, possibly a little roomy but I found no need to go down a size. Fairly hard sole but that is good for outdoor walking on tough ground. NOT flexibility so so good if you want a more ‘barefoot’ flexible shoe but it is not sold as that. looks good I think. Feels good quality. the heel is stiff so you can push your foot in without using your hands – for when you are rushing or changing in and out of the shoes; but no heel rubbing and I have worn these hours on end. In summary, really good. Just be aware of stiff sole which may or may not suit the user.

The best trainers I’ve ever bought. Comfortable from day one. Got them out of the box and went for a 5mile walk. Thought I might have been taking a risk but I feel I’ve had them forever also totally waterproof. So pleased.
I’m a standard size 5 and they’re perfect for me. I’ve been wearing with walking socks.

Second pair as first pair so comfortable. Wide fitting so no pinching of toes or their joints!! Waterproof – I walk a lot in all weathers and splash in puddles to remove mud (and just because I can) and never come back with wet feet. The shoes are easily laced up and I can wear thick or thin socks and lace them up so they fit comfortably. The sizes are proper sizes (I was always a size 7 until a few years ago when the shoe sizes seemed to change and now I have no idea what size I am!!) these shoes are sized as I expected. The support arch is in exactly the right position for comfort and support.
Really glad I found these walking shoes.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought these shoes for my wife. She prefers wide fitting walking shoes because she has had problems with corns with many brands. She often chooses Meindle but she chose these Merrel shoes because of the stated wide fitting. The availability of half sizes is also a bonus. She is usually 5, but decided to try a half size up. The first notable thing about them was that they were easy to put on out of the box – not always the case with many walking shoes. The fit is comfortably wide and perfect with thick walking socks, but a loose in ordinary thin socks. She has worn them every day since she had them, mostly in wet weather. They are waterproof so far, but that will change with wear and tear as the shoes age – I don’t know why people make such a big fuss about that. They look good. No complaints so far.

Arrived on time – size fit was as expected – I have had Merrells before, one pair lasted 20 years so am hoping these may be similar. Seem comfortable – not yet been out walking in them as still using my old pair which are getting to the end of their days.

I have had many pairs of these over time my other pair are quite old and cracking and probably going a bit hard they are the vent so not waterproof.

The new ones are comfortable and look good fit is the same as the Mens shoe, these are comfortable as expected quite a wide fit if that is important I but a size larger so loose fit unless wearing thick socks , can not comment on waterproofing yet, only annoying think is they make annoying noise when walking I assume it’s the Goretex layers ? No big deal. Not sure I would buy them if they were full price but for around 60 in sales they are a great shoe

Not had them out in wet weather so can’t comment on water resistance.

Had several pairs over the years and I love them for their comfort and not requiring to be broken in. I wear them daily for work and favour gtx ones in the winter. I only wish they made more plain black ones at a sensible price.

excellent for a general walk around park with dog or more rugged terrain. they do make a bit of a noise when walking. think this may be the cushioned heal. hope it will wear off. waterproof at the moment second pair.. old ones are like slippers but no longer waterproof.

Super fast delivery, right to size, and really light which was one of my main requirements. This was my first buy of shoes online and really happy with my purchase. They are a little hard (no gel soles) but being super light makes them very comfortable to wear.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI did lots of research before choosing these Merrell walking shoes, having been disappointed with other brands that claimed to be waterproof but weren’t. These Merrell shoes were comfortable straight out of the box, which is a small miracle for someone with short, wide feet with bunions. I’m usually a size 3 but chose a 4 and this was perfect with thick socks. Very happy with them, so far they’ve proved to be warm, dry, and although the inner sole is quite hard, they are very comfortable.

My second pair of Merrell walking shoes, though not as light as the previous pair they are still comfortable from the start.

I bought these shortly before embarking on a 50km Thames Path challenge. Not much time to break them in but they were suitably comfortable and helped me complete the challenge. My toes didn’t rub, there is wiggle room in the toe box and I bought my usual size. They aren’t light but they are sturdy and helped to soften the impact on stony, hard ground. I’m really glad that I bought them.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersUpdate Apr 2023 – bought July 2021, shoes are now starting to let water in
I’m writing this after wearing everyday for a year and they are still waterproof, no cracks appeared in soles or at the joins as usually happens with walking shoes. The fit was comfortable straight away, no wearing in was needed
My last pair were Solomons and the fit on those changed so these have been a god send and I’ll stick with this brand once these eventually wear through.
For context, I walk the dog on all kinds of terrain, hardcore, grass, up hills, beaches etc
One downside is that they can be slippy on wet leaves but they get you up a rocky incline just fine which I find strange.

Faithful, reliable, comfortable, put them on and walk. Never cause blisters or hot spots. Would rather be able to buy the female version and the toe and side detail splits after a couple of months. I have a pair from 2012 before materials were changed, that’s still better on top detail than a 12 month old pair. Soles wear well.

I’ve realised through lockdown that the thing I do most is go for a walk so I thought I’d invest in some decent walking shoes. I’d tried Merrells in a sports shop but they didn’t have half sizes. I normally wear size 4 but I have very wide feet and wanted room for good walking socks so ordered 4.5. I’ve only worn them once so far and walked about 4 miles comfortably. Looking forward to testing them out in wet conditions and walking lots more miles. Durability is important to me and I don’t know about that yet so have not awarded 5 stars for that reason.

These walking shoes were exactly what I hoped they would be – comfortable from the first time I wore them and waterproof. Needing a 5.5 was a little tricky to find but eventually I managed to get this pair so not necessarily the colour I would have chosen but they are just walking shoes after all and they do exactly what I had hoped including supporting my feet Andrew ankles well (particularly after an earlier Achilles injury). They were also very reasonably priced compared to the shops I had tried. I had my feet measured in a shop to be sure of the size I needed as I had read to go for a size bigger and I’m glad I did as I usually buy 5 but the half size up is much more comfortable. They are good and wide too which I also need. Will definitely buy Merrell again.

I bought these shoes to replace a similar pair. Going by my previous purchase and recommendations I ordered a half size bigger than my normal size. I didn’t need to, as having worn the shoes a few times now they feel quite big and much heavier than my previous pair. So far they are OK for the purpose of dog walking on all sorts of terrain, and so far my feet are kept dry, but I have only worn them a few times to date. I am a little disappointed in them, but that is mainly due to the fact they feel so clumpy to walk in.

I had tried several pairs of salomon walking shoes, one of which felt ‘quite right’ on me. I decided to try a pair of Merrells after reading some of the reviews. I have to say from the very first try I knew these were ‘the ones’. The fit is true to sizing. And although the boots are not advertised as wide fitting they do give a bit more toe room width wise than the salomon. They fit like a glove as they saying goes and after an hour or so walking around the house I felt confident enough to go for a short walk in them. They didn’t disappoint! They feel secure and stable. I haven’t tried these in the wet weather yet so can’t comment on whether they are indeed waterproof. But I love everything else about these walking shoes.
