In case it helps anyone (I think this has been mentioned in other reviews), I used the password on the underside of the router to log in the first time, but when I went to routerlogin.net on my browser, I go the “connection not private” message as expected, but there was no option to “Continue to routerlogin.net/unsafe.” After doing some googling I tried using the IP address 192.168.1.1 instead and that then seemed to work as per the instructions and I was able to create the account and change the password.
I think NetGear should review their installation instructions as they don’t work as described. It’s now working well and I’m happy with it, I got it to provide WiFi in my garden office and it’s perfect for that.

This is more than an access point, it’s actually a router.
It has a firewall, it’s own vpn and excellent wireless range with WiFi 6! Bargi

Used with multi gig PoE switch, running cable into the attic. Covers the entire house with ease (new build though, no solid walls internally). Solid 500mbps at least when connected downstairs. 1gbps+ upstairs.

We hard wired it into the shed from an EE wireless hub. The ones that dont use your telephone line [ we dont have a telephone line] It works very well as we spend a lot of time in the shed [ hobby area]. Very easy to set up. Visitors phones disconnect multiple times before eventually connecting. Not sure why that is. But my phone / computer/ printer all work off it just fine.

I’m getting speeds of 600-900Mbps locally on 5GHz. 2.4GHz is much slower, of course. At first the 5GHz was really slow, but I solved the issue by setting the 2.5GHz to half-power. I’d recommend this any day over a Ubiquiti. The only down side is that it does not come with a PoE adapter, so I had to purchase a PoE switch.

Great access point, simple setup, great signal strength compared to other similarly proced products.
I tried using a tp link ax3000 for the same purpose and the signal was more than 10dBm weaker from the spot I measured from. As a plus it looks very sleek.

Originally I was using a router with WAN phort disabled to act as a wifi AP but this needing regular reboots following lockups of the router. The Netgear WAX024 has proven to perform the functionality needed while remaining stable. I am using the same SSID’s as my main router which does not appear to cause any incompatibility.

Signal over 6 meters and through 2 walls is around 120mbps – very good. Compared to Netgear RAX20, which was giving 50mbps. Well worth the money though only issue is VPN is limited compared to the former – I can live with this.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWe live in a reasonable 4 bed house, that’s steel structure and we had dead zones at the far sides of the house with the hub 4.

For the price I picked this up expecting to have to use it as a second access point in the house, but putting it where the virgin point was, solved all our problems. Speed and coverage works great.

Phones laptops and computers in our house are mostly Wi-Fi 6 so I think that’s helped, since it was our phones that roamed around the house and didn’t have signal.

Set and management is nothing fancy but very easy.

And I’ve got the virgin hub running in modem mode now and we’ve had almost no drop outs vs before we had loads of problems!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersA little fiddly to set up in the first instance, especially if you are using as an access point. You MUST log in to it’s WiFi on a tablet or laptop first to get the IP address if you are already using a separate WiFi router as it automatically changes it to a random IP because of the conflict. Once logged in you can then change to access point mode in the settings menu. Then restart and it should show in your network or router settings to get the correct static IP to continue the set up. Had a WAC104 before and this has doubled 2.4g speed and coverage at a really good price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe wifi signal would trail off after some 12meters, across 3 different rooms with open doors in between. And devices tend not to find the network at that distance upon coming up from sleep. I would have expected the range to be longer given that is aimed for business with 3 aerials, etc.
However, it addressed the issue that I got it for, and for the dicounted price, I cannot complain much.
The setup was very easy, I did not have to go through an IP address to reach its Admin console, as some reviewers highlighted, perhaps I have a newer firmware. The advice by some reviewers to initially set the admin password to a simple value was invaluable, I set it to a complex one to start with but it did not work, had I not read the comments I would have been scratching my head for a long time.
Having 2 power adapters was very good, as I took this AP overseas. While setting it up here in the UK I used the UK adapter and then I only travelled with the European adapter.

This is the best I’ve found for broadcasting WiFi to our campsite. Setup is unnecessarily difficult as the first time user is faced with a blank Web browser astating the site is insecure! Why the manufacturer does not make a basic setup to get you going is beyond me. Makes no sense at all. Now I have set it as working, but a common problem is bow where the setup page is no longer viewable. I do make the point that it functions s well, but a nightmare to control, hence 4 stars.

Have fiber to the house and the BT hub was not giving speeds needed. So purchased this to plug into the BT hub and use for Wifi. Works better, but think our house has some serous walls upstairs as speed still drops quite quick when you move away from the unit. Still at least double the speed than the BT hub was giving us.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI have now purchased a total of 5 x WAX218 of which I have deployed 3 so far. I have 2 installed in my property and another installed in the adjoining semi-detached property.

(Important safety warning: the two properties are fed by different supply phases – the unit in the adjoining property is powered from my supply to ensure there are no high potential differences. Additionally, there are no cabled connections between separately-fed equipment in the properties. Never cross-connect equipment on different phases without fully understanding the electrical implications.)

I found configuration to be a little frustrating and think that someone without some basic grasp of IT might struggle with some of the process. I am only using 1 SSID at this point and have configured them with static addresses to make it easy to locate specific units for maintenance.

The configuration options are extremely comprehensive and the interface is pretty good. After completing configuration in about 30 minutes I have not had to revisit any of them.

Initially I powered my first unit via POE but I subsequently ordered Netgear PSUs instead – these are typically around 12GBP.

This is a well-made product but it does have one glaring design flaw in my opinion! The recess above the power and ethernet sockets is so small that it forces tight bends on both cables. I simply cannot understand why this flaw was not picked up and corrected during design review.

In conclusion, overall an excellent product which is thoroughly recommended and which would have received 5 stars if it were not for the forced bends in the cables.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a professional access point with lots of features that I’m unlikely to use however, the signal is strong and reaches all the way to the back of my garden approximately 80 feet. The set up was relatively easy, although if you’re not particularly tech savvy you may find the instructions a little unclear. As stated, I’m using this as an access point to extend my WiFi to the back garden. I’ve plugged an Ethernet cable from a powerline adapter into this unit and set it up using the same SSID and password as my main router for seamless switching between WiFi points. The only difficulty I had was logging into this unit after changing it’s function to access point. I had to use a network utility to find out the IP address assigned to it and then log in using this IP address whilst near it. I would just like to confirm that it does come with it’s own power supply as some reviewers had stated that it didn’t.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEasy to set up, awesome performance on 5G, lots of features including DMZ, VPN client, QoS. But… And Netgear, you lose a star for this. It came with both European and UK power packs, so now I’m stuck with an extra power pack I don’t need, which is a waste. Why not ship with a simple replaceable plug? Now I have some unnecessary plastic/electrical waste I need to dispose of.

Well, the instructions weren’t clear. I use Safari as my browser, but after downloading and using Google Chrome, it enabled me to install and set it up easier. I am not a computer or an IT buff, so I assume I have correctly installed it. If it packs up, it will go back as I am not convinced it will continue to work.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWas easy to set up. Make sure you create a good password – for admin access as well as the wifi password. As a router it battles compared to my much more pricey 5-year old Asus, but as an access point it is great. You get 3 isolated networks, being designed for a business, so one network for the business use, one for customers and one for wifi-aware devices like lights, fridges or similar. Priced well, just make sure to change the type of function from router to access point.

Used currently as a replacement WiFi access point from my faulty junk Netgear Nighthawk R8000.
Easy enough to set up, though it had a different default IP set (likely due to my router setting a new one via DHCP) so there was some initial confusion to get connected to the admin web interface. However connecting to the access point using a WiFi connection and using the Netgear router URL worked fine for me, your mileage may vary.
Connection is good so far after a couple of weeks, no drop outs or annoying connection refusals.
If you want a no-nonsense and capable WAP then I think this is the ideal product.

Miracle, a passe.

My TP-Link Wireless Access Point had failed so a replacement was needed. I have probably not used half the features available on the WAX204, it’s simply connected (over a length of external Cat 5) to a TalkTalk router and acts as a WAP. The problem with Dual channels is that 2.4 GHz is slower but has a better reach while 5 GHz is faster but doesn’t have the same reach – simple answer on the WAX204 is to let the device decide. As I move further from the device you can see the frequency (on mobile phone) change from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz so you will always get the best service it can give you under changing circumstances.

The device looks good and my only complaints are that the indicator lights are too bright (and I haven’t found a way to switch them off) and the LAN light shows amber instead of green if you have a device attached that is less than Gigabit. Can’t really complain.

Der Access Point sollte den Apple Airport Extrem ersetzten.
    Reichweite des WAX218 ist gut.
    Die angeben 175m2 sind realistisch.
    Sehr einfache Einrichtung, simple Weboberflche.
