5.0 out of 5 stars It works!!!
So I bought this back in January after thinking about it for about 2 years. I’m pale with dark hair, so the perfect combo for this model, but was still unsure whether it would actually work. I mainly bought it to use on my bikini line, as that’s the bit the bothers me the most. I would usually get a wax but hate growing it in between. I was initially put off by having to shave first but after about 2 sessions I was already seeing it working!
I haven’t used it as regularly as I should but the results have been impressive and I am so so pleased I bought it. No longer have to plan ahead if I know I’m going to be in a bikini, it’s pain free and lasts far longer than a wax! It worked well on my armpits too, it didn’t work as well on my legs but my hair isn’t as dark on my legs and I didn’t do it as often as I should have.
I normally use it plugged in as it’s quicker but it is handy being wireless just for when I want to use it without the faff.
I waited a while to do a review and I can honestly say if you’re thinking about it and have dark hair you should go for it, it’s been a game changer for me. I don’t mind that it doesn’t last as long as professional laser as I get to do it as and when I please without the expense.
I’ve been using mine every 2 weeks for a total of 4 sessions now. Most of my leg hairs are gone – only a rare odd one out will be spotted when I look very very carefully, which I’m only doing to monitor the progress. Armpits and bikini area are lagging a bit behind, but can definitely see progress with patches of hair no longer growing back. My hair is thick so it does not surprise me it’s tacking a little longer than they predict. It’s practical to do it at home, and at the end of the day I feel like it saves money as this many sessions in a clinic would have already cost me just as much or maybe more, and, as mentioned, I would still need a few more sessions for some areas. I definitely feel like it was a really good purchase.
Fantastic Christmas present 🎁
Was a present. So happy with it. Only thing. The cost and the cordless doesn’t last long
I delayed buying this for so long as was unsure whether it would work. I wished I bought it years ago. I did 3 treatments and I have hair free legs already don’t delay it is expensive but worth every penny
Why did I wait so long to get one of these! I have held off written a review to see if it actually works and it does! I was the biggest skeptic, I didn’t get results straight away but after 2 months I am blown away with how effective this is. It is a little chunky to use and you can’t see where you have zapped so patches could be missed if you’re not careful. However for the results you get I do not mind! Zero pain. Would recommend to everyone.
This is the second Lumea I’ve owned. The previous one lasted 10 years – this one is definitely an improvement.
Great product. Worth the money.
If used as advised died do the trick. The hair reduced and already stop growing with other. It takes time to get use to and get confortable but when you in you in. It does work.
I bought one year ago and I noticed a huge difference on my body hair specially underarms. I think legs and bikini take more time to notice.
Be aware: DONT USE ON YOURS TATTOO.
On my first time I didnt know about it and I used causing a inflamation, burning and huge pain. My tattoo has been damaged!
Definitely works
Definitely reduces hair growth but it’s hard not to get gaps with doing a treatment so there can be inconsistencies. There are plenty of tips on the app saying that.
I’ve done lots of research and the most annoying thing was not being able to identify the dose of light one gets in a single shot, to compare it to what you would get in a laser clinic. I’ve therefore had to rely on reviews like this. Bought this one bc of the return policy and so far, it seems pretty good. From what I found on a YouTube video- the dose per shot is way less but you can use it way more. I can smell the hair burninglike burnt popcorn, just like the laser clinic. Which is a positive sign. I have been using it weekly initially and over the past two months have noticed significant hair reduction. Try it! I think it’s going to be great and a huge cost savings. (Return it if unhappy).
So firstly, I had a short course of professional laser hair removal – full hollywood and leg. Before pic is before any of that – it *completely* changed the hair – dramatic reductions in most places, gone or nearly gone in some. But that was 5 years ago and I’d noticed some of the hair creeping back on my legs, esp around my knees, and there were places it hadn’t really worked in my bikini area. I’ve never had anything on my armpits or chin so thought I’d get this to sort everything out on my own. I went for the top of the line device as I had such thick, coarse hair and wanted something which would last as long as possible.
There’s a lot of guidelines about how to use this in the instructions and the app – I watched all the tutorial videos but they kind of say the same thing so I’d just watch one – practice is the best thing to learn how to use it anyway.
It’s def not the easiest thing to use – it’s so hard to remember where you’ve done so I’ve started to use white eyeliner to draw grids like in my laser appointments. I might be a little too thorough when I do it so it did take literally 3+ hours to do full leg, bikini, armpit, lower stomach and under my chin.
I found it VERY painful at times when I was just blindly using intensity 5 everywhere but this has been better using the little identifier button on the device which said I was mostly a 4. Also a lot of the pain is when you’ve used it nonstop for ages as gets very hot.
So the results: the after I just took today of my legs – I’ve done 4 treatments 2 weeks apart and an extra one around my knees where there were stubborn bits. Knees were just shaved a couple of days ago so will see if anything grows back, but everything else is G O N E and I’m very happy. For bikini area, there wasn’t too much regrowth to start with and most went after 1 or 2 treatments. Inner labia was the bit laser didn’t really touch, and I’ve still had a couple of patches after 4 treatments but I’m confident it will all go in time as it’s reduced massively. (NB the guidelines say not to use it here! but I’ve had no issues?)
Armpits, stomach and chin were areas I’d not had laser – stomach is gone, chin is dying down (I just had the odd black hair under chin) I’d say armpits have about 30% hair left after 4 treatments but they’re super quick to do so happy to just keep going.
Obviously treatment time has massively reduced now I’m just focusing on the small stubborn bits, and I’m super happy overall but do bear in mind the negatives – time, pain, difficulty using – when purchasing.
Why I waited so long to buy this
I use to wax my hair always having to schedule things around my waxing appointments, I couldn’t shave before because my hair would grow so black and fast back, I was a little scared to buy this just because of the shaving part but WOW the results are amazing on my legs and underarms.
The best one for my ski
I do recommend to use it. You will really loose hair about 80%
I’m so impressed
Has made the world of difference. If like me you wish you had never started shaving because you didn’t even really have any hair and now you’ve ended up with painful irritating stubble – this is for you. In 2 months I have hardly any hair and it stays that way for weeks. I barely need to shave anymore.
I’m not exaggerating when I say this is the best thing I have ever bought in my life!! It has completely changed my life, I’ve gone from being insecure about my body hair and constantly shaving or waxing, to hardly having any hair growth on legs, bikini, armpits and I’ve only used it 3 times so far! Really easy to use, painless etc… I 100% recommend!!
It actually works!
I thought it wouldn’t really work, but it does. I am very pleased. There’s a spot on my shin that I kept missing because I just didn’t notice. The difference between that spot and the rest of my leg is huge!
Excellent produc
This does the job it promises to do. I started by only treating the hair on my left hand side so I could see without doubt if it works and it does. I am so delighted, after only 2 treatments it is clear that the hair isn’t growing back. If one considers the cost of getting this treatment in a salon then the item is the cheaper option by far. It’s win-win on performance and price. Would highly recommend.
Quite impressed with the results but it is quite time consuming as for me I have to shave and then use the devise the same night. It can be a little uncomfortable but it’s bearable. I wouldn’t waste money buying the cordless version as you need to have it plugged in to do your legs.
Cordless is great, no use for diabetics though.
Unfortunately, my other half couldn’t use this as she’s diabetic, she’s also very blonde so likely would only be of limited use (if any) as it does say its poor on very light hair…. So for the purposes of reviewing…. I became the Guinea Pig.
There’s a variety of attachments, face, bikini, underarm & general body hair included with the package. So we ran with the body attachment.
Clean & trim the area, choose the intensity setting, press the ‘gun’ to your skin &…. Start firing…
It’s painless, on the higher settings its a little warm but that’s all.
You do need to repeat the process every so often, but that’s the price for avoiding stubble or having to get waxed!!
Being rechargeable /cordless is a definite bonus.
It works well, but just disappointing that there’s circumstances where you can’t use it. Maybe check these out before purchasing.
Everything it's going good but i have strange marks into the machine, behind this small glass
Everything it’s going good but i have strange marks into the machine, behind this small glass. How can I clean it? This is gonaa be a problem for the future.
I bought this product at the end of august, use it every 10 days – 2 weeks and my hairs have near enough stopped growing! I have thick course hair and I am so impressed with it! Would highly recommend!
Bye bye hair !
This is the first time, I have tried a cordless hair removal tool. I have to admit that Philips Lumea IPL Cordless Hair Removal 9000 Series is an amazing device to get rid of any unwanted hair.
This is a laser hair removal device for home use. That means you can have the treatment without having to go to a specialist, so it is much easier and much more reasonable to stay on schedule to experience results.
The machine is very well designed and constructed, and the instructions are very good, but it does require some amount of practice to get used to the timing, placement, and so on. You also need to remember that you won’t be able to see the results for quite a while, so a bit of pati4ence is needed. But I swear, it DOES work!
For me, the sensation reminds me of pressing a camera flash against your skin. It is a brief burst of heat that stings a tiny bit, but then it goes away immediately. Also, there’s a slight smell of burning hair.
It is very convenient and easy to use due to the lack of cable.
It is a bit pricey but you can get rid of unwanted hair in the comfort of your own home and save lots of money, as the beauty salon treatments are very expensive at the moment.
Highly recommended!
Thank you for reading my honest and unbiased review, I hope you found it helpful! 🙂
Top-notch IPL device
Philips are very much the benchmark when it comes to IPL devices, and this one proves exactly why that is the case. It’s very effective, pain free, well-made, and works exactly as expected. Five stars.
It’s a bit slow to use but it works. Great quality product!
I ordered this for my brother in law who wanted to remove his back hair more permanently. It arrived a fairly large box, well protected, well designed and professionally packaged. You get the hair removal device, charger, 4 attachments, a bag and a big instruction manual. All nicely nicely laid out and it was a good experience opening it.
There is more to do than expected with this and we had to read the manual well. I initially thought it’s just a case of turn on a press the trigger to remove hair, but actually it works by putting the hair follicle to sleep for a long time to stop the hair growing back. So, it starts by testing on yourself for a couple of days until you get the desired strength that you can take. My brother in law has tanned skin so he had to use a high setting (4). He then had to clean shave his back BEFORE treating with this device. I know, sounds weird as you don’t really see the satisfaction of hair removal from it per se, but more the fact that it doesn’t grow back!
Now the device itself is very sleek, it’s easy to plug in and charge and the battery lasts a while. It has a bit of weight to it and you can definitely see there is quality to the build of if. It’s nice to hold and ergonomically designed, however when trying trying to apply it to different areas of you body it can be a bit awkward. Especially as it has quite a bulky head to it. I expected that when using it that you could hold the trigger down and drag it over the skin, but it actually works on single presses where when you push the ‘nozzle’ onto the desired area, the back lights up indicating it’s ready to press the trigger. So you press it, it flashes red onto the skin and then you get a smell of burning. So it’s clearly doing something. But having to work your way down the body waiting and pressing on really small areas at a time is very time consuming and bit graceless really.
BUT, it does work. It took a while to do but once he had the right setting the results on his back were good. I suppose the time spent doing that vs the time spent shaving every day or so is probably negligible.
Overall this is a great product, it has its limitations and drawbacks as mentioned above, but on the whole it’s really well built and it does the job. You just need to be patient and make sure you read the instructions and do the tests on yourself first. So with that in mind I’d say it is a solid 4/5.
I hope you found this helpful.
Was slightly dubious of this at first.
I noticed a difference after the first use, hair growth was slower and finer. I do not have thick wiry hair so cannot vouch for it in that instance. After a few more weeks, I have noticed a considerable difference. It is painless apart from a slight sensation of being a bit prickly. I would recommend this as it really has made a difference to my legs and under arms.
You have to stay strong and stick in there, won't work for everyone.
I originally got this for my fianc to try out, she has a pale complexion and has blond hair which is medium to light so it was always going to be a gamble as to whether it worked, she tried it out anyway and unfortunately it didn’t really work for her so she’s gone back to shaving. She ended up giving to her sister to try as she light brown hair. It took quite a while but her sister started to see results, though it took much longer than the 3 treatments before she did. She almost gave up but she stuck in there in the end and is now happy with how it’s working. The cordless nature of the design makes it easy to use and she’s very happy with it. It is priced quite highly but it’s Philips so you’re paying for a quality brand and with something like this I wouldn’t risk going with a cheap generic brand as these can be dangerous to use so do your research before you buy.
Philips Lumea IPL Cordless Hair Removal 9000
I’m a fan of the theory of IPL. I had one for certain parts of the body and acquired this when I decided once and for all I wanted to get rid of leg hair.
This works well. Clear instructions, easy to use, no irritation (only used on legs), and after 6 weeks am starting to see results. Not too heavy, though you do need a certain degree of flexibility to use it properly. Would recommend. Cheaper longer-term than storefront laser treatment, and does work as well, it seems.
This is my honest unbiased review for the Philips Lumea IPL Cordless Hair Removal 9000 Series which i hope will be helpful for some.
I have caramel/mocha coloured skin where i definitely meet the suitable skin tones. Like most females having unwanted hair and having to shave/wax etc can be an absolute pain, so i was delighted to be able to try this as it claims to reduce 92% of unwanted hair for up to 6 months. At the time of writing this review i have been using this product for just under 4 months now so not quite the stated 6 months that they say you will see the full results, however i will explain how i have got on with this so far and update at a later date.
Priced at 399 its not exactly cheap so like anyone else i would like to be reassured that it will be money well spent for the performance and convenience as i’m sure others have debated that they can just continue to shave/wax or be natural to save themselves the cash. You get 4 attachements as well as a white bad to store it in which isn’t high quality but very convenient to store and keep it safe nonetheless.
Due to the nature of the procedure of hair removal it is very important to read the manual to check that you are safe to use it as the manuals do state that you shouldn’t use this device if taking specific medication, suffer from eczema, tattoos, permanent makeup, moles or suffer from diabetes and that is just to name a few!! You also shouldn’t use near the eyes, nipples, lips etc so it is mainly for legs and underarms in my opinion.
You have to make sure that your skin is clean before use, as well as free of lotion etc. I was completely new to this type of device so it was a good job that i read the manual properly as i have no idea of some of the above restrictions and would hate to scar, injure or cause harm to myself from misuse.
Before using i was aware that it woudn’t work immediately so went into it with patience and excitement. Using this device is actually very easy to use. You have to shave before you use and clean skin. I did a patch test 24 hours before using properly which is advised and thankfully everything went fine for me to use properly. There is a simple on/off on the device and it has a smart skin sensor that detects your skin tone to doublecheck that your tone is suitable for treatment. It is alot of information to take in, however i found that the app was also helpful for usage confidence and extra guidance as it has videos to guide you.
Using the device as a whole is actually very pain-free, well it didnt hurt me which i feared the worse before using. There are two treatment mode, i used the Slide and flash more as i mainly used on my legs and when you use this device it flashes and you do feel a small sense of heat but its nothing to worry about. I didnt actually start seeing any results until the 2 month stage.
The initial treatment i had to have 4 treatments, where every treatment was 2 weeks apart and after that touchups were every 4 weeks which is what Philips recommended. I found that the battery lasted around 40 mins which was long enough for me per sessions as i would charge after each use anyway.
Charging the device took around a hour and half to charge full which i thought was great and efficient. After around 5 sessions of using it has definitely made my skin smoother for a longer duration (winner) so it has definitely done what it does. It hasn’t changed or affected my skin in anyway which i was conscious of before using and does appear to be long lasting so based on my experience so far i’m very happy with it so far and would definitely recommend.
Pain free hair removal
The Philips lumea IPL cordless hair removal 9000 series — Firstly it is very essential to read the instructions prior to see viable results my skin tone is brown with black hair and is suitable for me to use this device. The manual states use it every 2 weeks for the initial phase then after this then you will move up to the touch up phase and this should be carried out 8 more times but just after 4 weeks. The device is easy to use comfortable to hold. The instruction on the app are clear to follow and lets you keep track of your treatment course and sends you reminders of when your next treatment is due. You receive 4 attachments for each area of the body for legs, underarms, bikini and face. There are 5 settings in total you can tailor this to your requirements. The lumea uses a smart skin sensor that automatically selects the correct level of light intensity and gives you the decision to accept or you can use your own desired level. I am yet to see results but after a month I have noticed a reduction and my hair now feels less coarse. This is a good investment if you are looking for permanent solution for hair removal.
It Does Work... You Just Need Patience!
This is the second Philips Lumea I have tried out now – honestly I feel like Philips has complicated their versions of their IPL devices as I feel there are so many product variations from my research. Despite this, I still rate their hair removal devices highly and would recommend them to anyone who could commit to the initial zap sessions and has suitable hair/skin shown in the product description.
As someone with very fair skin and dark hair, I am the ideal candidate for this product, this is because the light from each zap will focus on the darkest features in the area. Something I was recommended by a shop worker when I bought my previous device was to use white eyeliner on moles and large freckles (although I just go over them anyway and deal with the sting). There are 5 different intensity settings on the device which you can set manually, or the device has a ‘SmartSkin sensor’ to detect the level best suited for you. Mine was set to 5, which is the highest intensity – which I’m sure is why I have had better results but also does pack a bit of a punch.
Honestly, it took me a while to build up the courage to just use it, I think too much research online can cause more damage than good. If you’re also scared to use it, just try it on intensity 1 for your first zap, and work your way up – on 1 you will feel nothing. There have been mixed reviews on whether people feel pain or not using it. Philips do state you should never feel pain whilst using it and if you do then you should lower the intensity – but doing this could reflect on the effectiveness of the device.
For me, I do experience some sort of pain *sometimes*, I still struggle to understand why sometimes it can be painful but for the most part, it’s fine. The pain really just feels like an elastic band being flung into your skin, which really isn’t that bad, but can be a bit shocking. This might be to do with having keratosis pilaris or sometimes if there’s a big freckle there too. I have kept mine at 5 the whole time, and haven’t ended up in tears or stopped halfway through, so it’s still worth keeping at the highest intensity for me.
Philips also has an app to track the body areas and dates you use the device. This is super useful as it’s very important to use the device at the right time, otherwise, it won’t be as effective as it could be. It gives a lot of information as to why this is and other useful information. It also sends notifications to you to let you know when you should be using it. It’s important not to use this when you are exposed to a lot of sun / are sunburnt, as it can damage the skin and cause irritation.
In terms of results, it does take time and you really need to stick to the schedule. I did notice less and less hair growing after around the third session. It is recommended to use it every 2 weeks a number of times, and then after that, it can be spread out much further. When it came to the end of the initial sessions, I did keep going for a few more 2-week sessions, to get the remainder of the hair, but about 80-90% had gone. Even with this small amount growing back, they were growing much slower than normal. It feels great to not worry so much about body hair after sticking to the initial routine!
This model includes four attachments to use for different body areas – 1 x Body treatment attachment; 1 x Face treatment attachment; 1 x Armpits treatment attachment; 1 x Bikini treatment attachment. This is useful as they are shaped for these specific areas. The device can be used plugged in or cordless – however, it zaps twice as fast when it is plugged in so I always use it plugged in.
Overall, as someone with dark hair and pale skin, this product works well for me and I’m really happy with the results! The device is a lot of money, but should last for a long time and will save some money on razors/shaving cream. For me, it’s more convenient as, after the initial every 2 weeks sessions, it’s nice to not worry about body hair as it is mostly gone and whatever is left grows very slowly. Philips Lumea is definitely a brand I feel confident in and I’ll definitely continue using this!
Easy to use, works hand in hand with the app
This Philips Lumea has four total-body attachments shaped to fit different body areas — face, underarms, bikini line, and body. It has a sensor that detects your skin tone and indicates which would be the most effective setting for the area you are treating out of the 5 available settings. This particular model is rechargeable, and can be used with or without being plugged in, and it claims that after three treatments it will reduce hair by up to 92% for six months.
Be aware that it doesn’t work on certain hair and skin colours; it is not suitable for treating red, blond, grey or white hair, or for very dark skin. It also doesn’t work immediately so you will have to be patient — you need to use it about three times, approximately two weeks apart, so you’ll want about six weeks to complete the first course of treatments. Get the app and that will guide you through using it. Some people have to use it more so you might have to experiment a bit.
It feels a little daunting when you first get it, but it is worth watching the videos on the app to get little hints and tips, and the app also reminds you when you are due your next treatment if you enter the dates when you have used it. It is actually really easy to use, it’s painless, there is a momentary flash of light and heat, and it is pretty fast once you’ve got the hang of it. I’ve found after two treatments that it doesn’t seem to be very effective on me, probably because I have light coloured/blonde hair but my wife (who we really got it for) has had better results. She says she has done two treatments now and so far it seems to be working and she’s optimistic that after her next treatment she will happily not need to use it again for some time. She wishes we had got one of these years ago.
If it doesn’t work for either of us after three or four treatments I’ll come back and edit this review.
Is a very good product. I am very happy with the results after 3 times using it. The hair is more than 90% off. This product worth every penny.
high quality with very clear, easy to follow, instructions
This is a very impressive IPL machine. My wife, who was a professional beauty therapist for many years. has already tried this in an earlier version and was impressed then – she tells me that this update is a significant improvement. It comes with 4 attachments – one each for face body bikini and underarms. My wife has now persuaded me to try this , with her help and i can report that having had this done on my shoulders and underarms that it didn’t hurt at all, and that the machine was easy to hold and to use. I now need to repeat the treatment twice more over the next few weeks , and will then be able to see the results for myself.
I am impressed by the build quality, and by the clarity of the instructions. This is an expensive piece of kit but if it works as we expect it to it must be a fantastic way to keep legs and underarms smooth without the need for shaving or painful waxing.
Hair Today Gone Tomorrow
My wife has been using this Philips Lumea IPL Cordless Hair Removal 9000 Series with 4 attachments for a few weeks now and has kindly provided her assessment below:
I’ve been using an older model “corded” Philips Lumea for a number of years now and have been generally very happy with the results. Pain free and neatly 100% effective. The one major downside has always been that the power cable gets in the way and caught up when I’m using it. So its now a great pleasure to have the use of this new Lumea Cordless Hair Removal 9000 Series model. Its so much easier to use and despite what I assume to be the internal batteries it not at all heavy or difficult to maneuver. What’s more its even more effective. I have fair skin which I consider to be rather sensitive but this Lumea has not caused me any issues at all. And with the additional attachments its much more practical at getting into those more awkward areas. I really love it!
At 450, this is not a cheap alternative. And is it painless? definitely not. Is it a permanent solution? No. Needs repeating. And it can not be used on eyebrows. And is less effective on certain skin and hair tones. And you must follow the safety guidelines. I would recommend that anyone thinking of purchasing this device visit the Philips website first to download and read the user manual before buying as there are a number of skin types and medical disorders that make IPL treatment unsuitable and well written, detailed advice is given in the user manual.
This IPL device is easy to use, the manufacturer does recommend that you do a skin test first. After shaving/waxing/epilating the area, clip on the appropriate attachment, select your chosen intensity and after placing on the area you are treating once the white ‘ready light’ comes on press the flash button. You then move on to the adjacent area before doing the same again. The ‘flash ready’ light won’t come on if you don’t get a good contact with the skin and initially you may need to adjust the angle, once familiar with using the device you obviously get better and a sessions will be a lot quicker too. Note: This model has a built in safety sensor if the ‘ready light’ flashes orange the sensor has detected that the skin tone on the area you’re using the device is too dark.
This thing stings initially, and on some body parts there will be redness and a little bit of swelling as well, akin to a slight heat abrasion or burn. Also on my skin the length of time you get hair-free legs after IPL doesn’t quite live up to the marketing promises, predictably enough. It’s definitely more long-term effective than waxing, making it an ideal treatment to use on the run-up to a holiday so you can go hair-free throughout the holiday without needing to go through it again. Also on the subject of holidays, bear in mind the warnings that you shouldn’t use IPL if you’ve got a tan- that will be kind of a big deal if you’re a regular sunbather. There are plenty of other circumstances in which you shouldn’t use it- not just skin tone but for people with sensitive skin, on certain types of medication, and so on.
Despite being accustomed to IPL now I was still a little nervous about using it on my face, but have given it a go in the interests of testing. The more targeted attachment for the face makes this possible and feels like you can target it reasonably well, but it’s not quite small enough to target a specific mole or problem area all that precisely, so facially I think I’m more likely to give it a miss and stick to the legs and underarms.
What method of hair removal we use is a very personal choice but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this Philips IPL device, its not the cheapest but it works and it works really well. might be worth trying if you dislike waxing or plucking. But it’s just another alternative, not the miracle cure.
Pre Treatment product review of Philips Lumea's IPL 9000
To be very honest this is first time my wife has come across this type of innovative technology so she is still novice and is learning how to use this product. Also it says in description as well as in user manual that she needs to use it 4 times with 2 weeks intervals so it will be some time before we can really comment or do a full review of the effectiveness of the treatments. So basically I am writing a pre treatment review about the product on it’s own. To talk about the effectiveness of treatment, we will have to be patient, only time will tell if it really works as it claims of 90% hair growth reduction. I will post a post treatment review after few months.
This is Philips Lumea IPL Cordless Hair Removal 9000 Series with 4 attachments for Body, Face, Bikini and Underarms and SenseIQ Technology, New 2021 Edition. The product itself is made of exceptionally good quality material and comes with several different attachments as you can see in the pictures I have uploaded. It claims to reduce over 90% of body hair after 3 to 4 treatments at 2 weeks intervals with Philips innovative IPL technology for up to 6 months, you can enjoy a long lasting smooth skin without waxing or shaving.
It says in the manual that the Philips Lumea IPL 9000 Series is effective on a wide range of hair colors including dark blonde, brown and black hair and on skin tones from very white to dark brown.
Device comes with 4 attachments shaped to perfectly fit every curve of the body. Lumea’s Smart skin sensors will detect and adopt programs tailored to each body and face part.
My wife has downloaded the Philips Lumea’s app as it helps her keep track of the treatments.
The device is very ergonomic and it is very easy to hold and use. Basically it flashes light beams on the skin and after 3 treatments, you should have at least 6 months hair free skin. I will update my review after the treatments and let you know if the Philips lives up to it’s promise.
Philips is a very well reputable and trustworthy manufacturer and I have a good faith in this product so 5 stars for the excellent quality product and innovative technologies made available to public at home as normally you would have to pay hundreds of pounds to have these sort of treatments at commercial outlets.
Must have i
Im very satisfied with how this laser works.
Very easy to use and its dont leave any marks on body as a cheap one do.
From the second use already can see results.
Good instruction was also included in package.
I can say its very safe to use this brand lasers.
Recommending.
Effective But Please Read The Instructions
My wife has tried a few different types of these devices by other makers over the years and all of them have performed well. Each have their pros and cons. She tried this one out and noticed that it operates in a slightly differ way to the other devices in that there are two choices of mode – flash and flash/slide. The other devices apparently defaulted to the second mode whereas this one appears to be on the first mode by default. Hence the advice to please check the instructions if you are tempted to switch it on, give it a go, and find it isn’t exactly what you want.
A couple of other useful points here. The handle does make it easier to use in some cases (other designs are the size of electric shavers typically) but this is far bigger and heavier. This will be a factor when you choose.
The device is usable in battery mode of course but it will also work plugged in where it is more efficient. The charger too is large item – far bigger than say a phone charger adaptor – so again this might cause some problems but at least you have the choice of how to use it.
There are changeable heads with this too which makes it a more comprehensive package.
This isn’t a cheap piece of kit and is more expensive than some of the others that were tested out some years ago so obviously you need to weigh the pros and cons.
It comes safely packaged and includes a bag for storing the various parts.
This item really caught my eye amongst the rest as I personally preferred the design of the lumea Phillips hair removal the rose gold colouring is really girly and pretty which I liked amongst the metallic silver colours. Before committing to this (as it is a big purchase and quite expensive) I was sceptical about both the abilities of the hair removal wand. However The reviews on this product was really great. Upon receiving the product and testing it out at regular intervals for a week I can see the results are showing and are beyond my expectations for so early on. A note is that if you’re purchasing this product please do bare in mind that this is a permanent and long term process and you can not expect to see the maximum best results with in 1 or two sessions, however for me personally a steady progression is showing and I am super excited to use this continuously . The package comes with a very pretty zip up bag which fits everything inside allowing you to carry it whilst travelling so you can take it with you on the go without worrying about damaging the contents. The product comes with a very lengthy Instruction manual which is fairly straight forwards and with many languages ( however I did find the many pages slightly confusing as. I was worried about missing certain information) Besides that however the instructions manual was very clear and informative with the hazards and important information noted on the first few pages so you won’t miss it! There are 4 settings and the product comes with 4 different heads, the main body, a cute bag, and a charger for the product. The four heads included:
– legs – face
– armpits
– bikini
In the instructions it shows that you can also use it on the lover abdomen above the bikini line, it also indicates areas to aai is such as around the eyes, upper lip etc etc.
You must read the instructions at least once and make sure you fully understand the precautions to take before using it, once you begin to test the product you will understand how simple and self explanatory the product is. The product does require some slight routine for example once every two weeks you will laser the hair, I’m personally quite forgetful, but the product also comes with an free app on which you can download Which not only makes the explanations simpler but also lets you track your schedule, it personally helps me remember when I have to carry out the treatment. In addition to all these bonuses the heads of the product is very easy to remove , change and clean. I personally prefer wiping down the heads with a cloth soaked in warm water to cleanse. The product also has small ,fairly straight and rectangular heads which ables you to get in to the more tricky areas such as bikini areas without difficulty, however the slight downside is that hair removal on larger surfaces such as legs may take slightly longer.
The supplied power cord is very long which allows you to be comfortable anywhere (positive note). The only minor negative is that during the removal sometimes you do feel a zap of pain every now and then the pain is very minor for me personally, it is way more bare able than waxing, and it’s much more convenient as there isn’t any rubbish which needs to be disposed of after wards, the battery life is also fairly long with my last session lasting around 3 hours without the need to recharge. Overall I am happy with the product despite the price being slightly high! But I do strongly believe you pay for what you get!
I was sceptical at first after hearing horror stories of people burning themselves from these machines, but this is super easy and I have seen the difference after one round. I cant recommend this enough, get it girls. Also, its great for Asian skin, no burns or irritation.
Large but powerful and easy to use with well placed controls and automatic settings.
First thoughts:
Pros
Wireless IPL frees up your movement without tangling wires.
Navigation is easy and switching intensity levels is simple.
Auto settings detect skin tone and suggest appropriate light levels.
Can be used with the power cable attached which increases the rate you can fire a pulse.
Can be used on slightly darker skin tones than a previous model.
Seems to have more power than the corded version.
Cons
Not meant to be used on fair hair (Blonde, platinum, red or grey).
No shaded goggles included to protect you from the bright flash of the gun.
You will have to read up on this a bit to ensure that it is suitable to use on your skin tone and colour of hair as unfortunately it is not suitable for all and so it’s worth researching before you commit.
My partner often cuts her legs with a bladed razor so we were looking for long term hair removal that would be effective and so we wanted to try one of these out.
She had to shave her legs before doing a patch test and then seeing if there is a reaction before doing a first treatment 24 hours later. It suggests that she pulses 5 areas using each of the 5 intensity levels to see what she can tolerate and if any of them react.
We then started the first treatment the next day when there were no bad reactions to the patch test (we did not re-pulse the areas that were used in the patch test, auto settings suggested level 5 but she knocked this down to 4 as the higher setting seemed more powerful in this wireless model and felt like prickly heat on number 5).
The treatment schedule is once every two weeks initially in which new hair is meant to start falling out and new growth is slowed (this has been fairly successful). Now that growth has slowed significantly, the treatment schedule is one session per month.
Details and things to note (See pictures):
Intense Pulsed Light device with a small collection of interchangeable heads for different areas of the body which have different sensitivities. There are interchangeable heads for use on the legs, bikini line/underarms and face.
Light intensity levels can be selected using the left and right arrows on the selection bar and this can be done very quickly compared to versions which require cycling through the levels in sequence.
The head needs to be in good contact with the skin to get the auto level selection to work and for the safety feature to allow the gun to fire. You will get a white ready light on the back of the gun when you have good contact and the flash is charged, you can then pull the trigger to fire a pulse of light. The gun recharges slower when using it wirelessly on the continuous roll and fire setting but this becomes quite rapid with the power cable attached and plugged into the mains. Either way it takes a couple of seconds to charge and then it’s ready to fire the next pulse.
The wireless IPL is larger, heavier and a little bit cumbersome to move around difficult to reach areas.
Incredibly bright pulse light so we’d suggest using the gun in bright light to avoid sunspots in your eyes from the flash contrast or grab a pair of sunglasses so you can keep an eye on what you’re doing rather than having to look away.
Final thoughts:
This has become a two person job to get the best out of using this larger gun without missing areas, but the wireless gun does have some advantages when it comes to power, auto settings and easy to use controls.
If you’ve done your research and this would be suitable for your skin and hair type then we’d highly recommend trying one of these out. Over a short period of time the initial time and effort pays off as it did reduce the speed of hair growth between hair removal sessions.
I have tried and tested a few IPL devices and as Philips are one of the leading brands in this field so I wanted to try this out. After using this for a few weeks, I can say that it does work but you have to be patient with it and keep following the schedule.
One thing to note is that you can this device if your skin is light to dark, but not the very darkest. It is capable of handling for both large and small body areas. However, you also have to be careful if you have tattoos, if you’re pregnant, breast-feeding, have diabetes, epilepsy, or if you are extra sensitive to light. These are pretty standard list of safety considerations for any IPL device so nothing new there.
The device came in a very premium packaging and I was really impressed with the attention to detail in the packaging. The devices and all the attachments are neatly arranged in plastic packaging. The devices I have used till now were all corded but this is the first one which is cordless. It can work both on mains-power and cordless. I love this freedom to use it wherever I want. As soon as I held it in my hand, I felt that it is superb build quality. It felt quite heavy in the hand which is probably due to the inbuilt battery.
Using the device is really fast and easy. It is really precise and quite comfortable in the hand. The controls are clear and simple, and the flash window easy to see from most angles. It gives excellent reach all around your body, and I find it especially good for backs of legs. I have used it corded for non-stop power to cover large areas like legs. You get 2 metres of durable tangle free cord and the long handle keeps it out of your way. I also like that you can use this on your face, and hard to reach areas. You can easily nip into the privacy of your bathroom to us it on the private parts as it is cordless.
Battery lasts just 30 minutes, and the flashes are slower, so use it cordless for small areas only. The device has 5 intensity levels. The lower IPL levels are safe for dark or medium skin tones, but fair skin tones can use the highest IPL levels 4 and 5. For medium and dark skin, use this clever skin tone sensor. It won’t flash if your skin is too dark. Keeping the flash button pressed, I can flash a full leg in just under 10 minutes, and my whole-body in around 40 minutes.
There’s a large and curved attachment to fit arms, legs, and torso, a small and curved one for bikini line and underarms, and a smaller flat one for your upper lip, chin, and jaw.
It’s bigger and heavier than other devices I have used but it’s easy to handle, very comfy and fast, so it doesn’t get tiring. You should shave in between each session, and between as you need, unless there’s no hair left. You have to do 4 to 5 sessions, one every two weeks to see full effects of this. You’ll notice it working after a few sessions, with softer, lighter, and slower regrowth. Then, bald patches appear, and gradually get bigger. After 4 or 5 sessions, I noticed that my skin was completely smooth. The results might differ for others but for my skin it did the job quite well.
Pros
Really comfortable due to the ergonomic design
Rechargeable to use quickly on smaller areas
Powerful
Amazing results with continued and regular use
Cons
Price is high
Heavy
Overall, I am really impressed by this device as it’s powerful, fast and easy to use and. It’s really a all-rounder for all body areas, but especially good for legs or whole-body hair removal. Highly Recommended
I absolutely love this. Pain free hair removal
Model received for testing: BRI955/00.
I’ve wanted one of these for sooo long, I was really happy and excited to be given the chance to try this in exchange for a review.
This Philips Lumea IPL hair removal device comes with 3 attachment heads suitable for the following:
Body
Underarms
Face & Bikini area
It arrived in a well presented box with everything you need, including storage pouch.
I didn’t have a clue how to use one of these but the instructions are really clear and helpful. Firstly you need to shave the area you are treating. Then do the flash when it indicates. Never do the same area twice. It recommends to do a treatment every 2 weeks for the first 4 treatments and then every 4 weeks. The more you use this, the less hair you’ll have and it will take longer to grow back. I found the head attachments really easy to change.
I’ve used this for 1 month now and I’m so impressed with it. I usually shave every single day and this saves me so much time. My arms and legs are silky smooth even after 1 month. My skin is fair but my hair was slightly dark so I started shaving/waxing my arms when I was a teenager. I love how this is pain free and gives results that last. I was so nervous to begin with but there’s no need to be.
Expensive but worth it!
Perfec
This IPL machine is just perfect. I’ve used a corded one for c=some time, but it’s awkward to use. This one is just right. it’s a comfy hold, and the lack of wire makes it so easy to reach the more out of the way areas! Does a great job.
It works and doesn’t hurt at all!!
It’s been one year that I’m thinking about starting hair removal treatments in a salon but first of all the covid situation and second the cost! It is really expensive to start the treatment!
A few months ago I bought philips hair removal but then changed my mind after seeing some photos from people hurting themselves. When I received Phillips Lumea, I decided to give it a try! I first used the sensor to see which intensity I have to use (it showed 4 for my legs), as I was really worried about being hurt I started from 1 and I went up to 4 and no hurting at alll! It’s really really easy to use and fast! The good thing is that it is cordless and so comfortable! Just sitting in front of the TV and press the trigger! You can even press the trigger and keep it down and just move the light.
So far I did just two treatments (2 weeks between) and I saw difference from even the first use! The growth speed is much slower and after the 2nd treatment I can see patch areas without hair ( reason: hairs are not in the same growth stage when we do the treatment) I’m going to continue and for sure going to update my review as it was really really important for me to see the reviews from others.
* I used it for leg and armpits, and going to start the bikini area. For both leg and armpits I saw the result after two treatments.
This has honestly exceeded all of my expectations in less than a month. I’m the perfect candidate for IPL – fair, with very dark hair. It’s been a problem since I was 10 or 11 – cruel kids and boys at school, followed by years of self-image problems. Now I’m older I know women’s body hair is entirely natural and removing it just patriarchal nonsense, but it’s a nonsense I still haven’t managed to get away from, somehow.
Every hair removal method I’ve ever tried has always ended up in the same place – ingrowing hairs and regrowth in less than a day. Summer is always fairly miserable, with my legs burning after seaside paddling, and glowing with daily shaving rash.
Enter the Lumea. I was dubious, and read every review I could find before investing. Even then, I wasn’t convinced – so I duly cranked it up to its highest setting of 5 and went over every area twice to begin. (This is against the manufacturer’s recommendations, so I’m not suggesting anyone else does this. It may well not even be safe.). I repeated the process a few days later because hell, I’d already shaved everywhere, so what did I have to lose? In all, I probably did 4x full-blast, overlapping treatments in week one.
Everything I read on their website and elsewhere on the science of IPL says that doing it more often does not increase result. Yet for me, it seems to have worked magic.
It’s been 3 weeks and I still have not had to shave again since that initial week of treatments. There are a few patches on my legs, yes, but they’re growing so slowly that I was able to treat them again this week (my first time redoing it), still without needing to shave again first.
My underarms and bikini area are still stubble-free enough to wear swimwear with confidence. My legs no longer have that darkness where new hair growth is visible beneath the skin, and for the first time in adult memory, I have zero ingrowing hairs to contend with, anywhere. I cannot stress how unusual all of this is for me. I’d normally have more regrowth than this in 3 hours, never mind in 3 weeks.
If this is the most it ever does for me, it’s already been worth every penny – but given such little sign of regrowth, I’m optimistic that results will last much longer than 3 weeks and continue to improve more with subsequent treatments.
I haven’t found it painful at all – occasionally a little hot-feeling in sensitive areas, but 99% of the time I can’t even feel it whatsoever. In fact, I find it quite fun, and even slightly addictive. Sadly, my husband has vetoed me doing his legs, or the dog and the cat, so I’ll just keep going on myself and enjoy basking in the freedom, finally, from a lifetime of body hair trauma and grief.
UPDATE: 1 year on!
As Spring comes around again, I thought I should update this. I haven’t used the Lumea since last summer. Overall I’d say I’ve used it for about 5 ‘binge’ sessions since buying it, sometimes spread over a couple of days. That’s all it’s taken for me to get amazing results.
6 months on from my last treatment and I’m still able to go bare-legged in dresses and skirts without shaving. The areas that I haven’t treated as much have some regrowth, but it’s finer and lighter than it ever used to be.
My bikini area has basically 0 regrowth – I suppose it’s still too soon to call this permanent, but it’s lasted 6+ months with no sign of return, so I’m optimistic.
I’ve noticed that areas I treated with the tinted attachments (eg the underarm one) have regrown, so I’m now using the clear-windowed attachment now in all areas, on the maximum setting of 5.
Likewise, areas where my hair is naturally lighter or thinner have taken longer to respond too, but it’s no big deal.
A little over a year on the and device is starting to malfunction – it thinks it’s flashing when it isn’t. It’s annoying for such an expensive purchase but then I have completely ignored the instructions, to be fair!
Overall, the Lumea is well worth it, especially if you have the fair skin and dark hair combo. Extras like the attachments, cordlessness, skin sensor etc are not necessary though, so if you can find a cheaper model with the equivalent lux (the brightness of the treatment light) then go for that instead.
Happy zapping!
Really works! Gets quite hot though.
This is a powerful , fast working IPL.
I have used the LUX skin laser too and here what I found…
With the LUX. You need 1 treatment a week for 12 weeks- I did this a d found it worked on my legs leaving now hair but on the underarms it didn’t work so much.
With this Phillips it needs 1 treatment every 2 weeks for 6 weeks and unlike the lux it is working so well on the coarser hair like the underarms.
The Phillips is slower than the lux but seeing as it’s more powerful I can only assume that it’s taking more time in between each flash.
I can also feel a lot more heat from this one when it comes into contact with the skin.
It can work wireless when charged and has skin sensing technology to find the right amount of power for your skin type. It also comes with 3 different filters for different body parts. The handle is big , I would have liked a thinner , easier to grip, handle.
It’s pretty quiet and works really well, despite a few little flaws I would recommend as it really does work!
I can see results already
The device was well packaged when I received it. It had all the three attachments for the different parts of the body, the charger, and the carrying bag (which I think is very classy). The box was unexpectedly big and the device itself was slightly bigger than I anticipated.
In terms of use and setup, the manual made it look like a very complicated process. It was highlighted to follow and trust the process, and so I did. I have been using it for three weeks now, and I continue to be amazed by the results. I tried using the five settings to identify which is better for me and ended up with number 2 (it felt higher heated with the other settings).
My skin has remained the same, has not lightened, and has not darkened either. The device has a high level of safety; it does not flash if your skin is too dark, so you cannot damage your skin or burn it. This device will definitely save money and time to see dermatologist and book laser sessions in the long term. Really worth it and I would definitely recommend it.
An IPL device that produces good results but only you can decide if it is worth the price
At the outset, I feel that it is important to note that I am not very experienced in the use of IPL hair removal devices and so I many not be familiar with all the appropriate terminology. However, I hope that it will be helpful to other novices like myself, who are interested in trying an IPL hair removal device.
In summary, an IPL hair removal device is designed to prevent hair regrowth, rather than simply removing existing hair (but by treating the roots, it makes the existing hair fall out). Accordingly, to the extent that it is used effectively, it should significantly reduce the amount of time which needs to be spent in removing unwanted hair. Clearly, the key is to only use it is areas where hair is problematic and so don’t use it on your head (unless you want to be bald…) and defiantly don’t point it into your eyes as the light beam could cause blindness.
One thing I was slightly surprised about what that this IPL device (and possibly other IPL devices, I’m not sure on this point) is only suitable for certain skin tones and hair colours. From a skin tone perspective, this appears to be quite flexible, with a suitable range being from pure white (a snowman!) to a medium brown skin tone (maybe a Malay skin tone). However, the hair colour is a bit less flexible, with it only apparently being suitable for black and brown hair colours (and specifically not grey/white, blonde or red/ginger tones).
One thing that is important to note is that your are very unlikely to notice instant results and therefore, don’t be tempted to keep on using it continuously in the hope that you will notice an immediate difference – if you do, you risk damaging your skin. The instructions are quite clear that in order to achieve the best results, you need to use for at least 12 treatments, which would take around 10 months to complete, albeit, gradual improvements are clearly evident after a much shorter period of time.
One aspect that is quite concerning is the price (400 at the time of writing), which I consider to be very expensive in the context of something that might only get used every couple of weeks at the most. I’m also told that the light source in these IPL devices also has a limited lifespan although, I would hope that this would last for many years.
Included within this kit (along with the IPL device itself) are three different attachments, depending upon the specific area you wish to target. These attachments are specific to the face, body and for precision aspects. The attachments are very easy to fit and remove as required.
One of the latest crazes is for every electronic device to come with a bundled smartphone app and this IPL device is no different. The purpose of the app is to provide coaching advice for how to get the best out of the device, reminders to use the device and general treatment plans. For me, I feel this is a little bit of a gimmick but I’m sure there will be those that find it quite useful.
In summary, and subject to you having a suitable skin tone and hair colour, the results do seem to be impressive. However, I would reiterate that instant results cannot be expected. You will need to persevere with the product for at least 2-3 months to determine whether it is proving to be a resounding success.
Fab device - painless for me and produced great results
Fab hair removal system–not painful for me and worked really well.

This set can seem daunting at first. It looks quite space aged, and if you’ve read a review reviews, the ones mentioning pain might stick in your mind. I was nervous initially, so went for my legs — being the least sensitive area I could think of.
Happily, it all went really well. No pain at all. It can get a bit hot after extended use, so if you’re doing a leg, have a break to let it cool down, before proceeding to the next one.
Philips has done an excellent job of making this device fool proof. I loved that different attachments are provided that target certain areas. The excellent sensor also detects which is the best setting. Simply point it onto your skin and it will select the most appropriate one.
I have to admit; I found the laser a bit garish for my eyes. There is a safety feature so that it can only go off once it is in full contact with the skin. The light does escape from the sides, though. This light isn’t dangerous (I looked it up), but for those with sensitive eyes, like me, might need to wear some sort of tinted glasses — sunglasses might render it too dark to see what you’re doing properly! My night vision ones worked quite well/
I’ve got dark brown hair, so, and without going into too much detail, as you can imagine, my hair is dark all over. I followed the recommended schedule, and I can happily Say, I have far less regrowth and have fewer leg shaving days than ever before! I will be upping my schedule for any holidays I might have in the future.
A few tips:
* You must shave before using this device. This is so it can easily target the root of the hair. Some reviewers have advised not to shave — this is incorrect and might be some of the cause of their lack of results
* It takes more than one go — don’t expect miracles after one sitting. This should be seen as part of a regular routine and then maintenance after that
* Stop if you feel any pain. The device might need to cool down before proceeding, this happens after prolonged use in one sitting
Overall, a great at home beauty treatment that works well and is easy to use. Would 100% recommend..
Get rid of your hair for up to 6 months with this IPL
My wife has tested this, so review is coming from her.
Opening the box, it wasn’t a surprising to see a good quality item. Most of my skin and hair care gadgets I use are from Philips, and I’m very loyal to this brand because the following reasons: they are high quality, useful and very reliable. This IPL hair remover is just the same.
It has a futuristic design, very small and modern, fits perfectly in my hand. The box contained 3 attachments to use for different areas of the body.
I am completely novice at permanent hair removal, I usually use razors, epilator from time to time. But I have looked into permanent hair removal last year, done by salons, but they don’t promise any success below 6-8 sessions, which by that time would cost around 1500 and that was just armpits, so I didn’t go ahead with it due to the high cost. With this Philips Lumea IPL Cordless Hair Removal, I can save money and time as I do not have to pay for professional hair removal and don’t have to book an appointment, I can do it for myself with just of 400 (the price of the item at the time I was writing this review). Although I have to mention that this will not remove the hair completely forever, but it can last for 5-6 months. What makes this hair removal stand out is the fact that is cordless and also it comes with a designated smartphone application which offers the step-by-step guidance and support you need, so you can feel confident about your IPL Lumea treatments.
The Lumea has an integrated skin type detector which detects your skin tone then indicates a comfortable light setting.
I have tried on legs so far and I would recommend you start the whole process if you have got around 3 hours, unless you will do a leg a time. Noticeable difference will only become visible after 2-3 sessions.
While this is a costly device, you could use it everywhere on your body which would save you a little fortune. I have used a few weeks already and while I can’t say it fully removed from an area, but certainly have less hair there. It might take another few sessions to get the desired effect, but as they say, a good job needs some time, so I am more than happy to carry on using it to get best result.
Finally something that competes with the salon treatments for a fraction of the price!
I’m a big fan of laser hair removal in general as I have PCOS. Years ago I had my legs lasered in a salon, it cost in the thousands and made my lower legs pretty much hair free permanently which I’ve been so pleased with but then wanted the same for the rest of my body. I’ve also had the original Philips laser hair removal machine which wasn’t anywhere as good as the salon so I was keen to see how this new one would compare and to be honest so far the results blown me away!
So to rewind a bit, first impressions were good, it comes with three different heads so you don’t have to use the same one for your legs, bikini/ underarms or face. Two of the three heads have a picture on them so you know which is which. It also comes with instructions and a little bag to store it all in. The plug it comes with is huge so I had to unplug the socket next to it to get it to fit. It’s recommended you download the app to use with it, I wouldn’t have bothered if I wasn’t reviewing it but I’m so glad I did as I found it much better than the standard instructions and it helps guide you on each step. It says it can be used cordless but then when you set it up on the app it says that it works a lot faster with it plugged in so tells you to do that. The app helps to keep track of your sessions and tells you when it’s time to do it again (which is a couple weeks after the 1st). I wanted to add another session a week after my first just for my face as I’m a bit impatient to sort that area out but the app didn’t let me log it as it wasn’t officially time to use it again. There’s also lots of tips and videos on the app of how best to use it from various people which was quite cool although it is pretty straight forward to use so I didn’t feel the need to watch them all.
So actually using was easy enough, it has a little scanner on the machine that you press and put against your skin so it recommends what setting to have it on. I have very pale skin with almost black hairs (really selling myself here I know!) so it recommended me setting 5 on my legs and 4 on my face. You simply just push the laser window against your skin gently until the light comes on to show it’s correctly positioned and then you press the button to zap the skin. I say “zap” but don’t worry it doesn’t hurt and you can lower the setting if it does feel uncomfortable which I did in my bikini area. When I had laser in the salon I would say that did slightly hurt and felt like an elastic band pinging against my skin on repeat but this felt like a very mild version of that. I was surprised that it took a little longer than I thought for it to be ready to flash again so it took a longer amount of time to do the treatment. They advertise you only needing to initially do 3 sessions to be hair free and then just do top up sessions both it says on the app to only use it the 3 times you have to make sure to cover every inch of your skin each time time which is actually a lot harder than it sounds when you have no way of seeing the areas you’ve already done. With that in mind it may take an extra session or two if you are a bit slap dash like me!
Results wise I’ve been pretty blown away; on the areas I’ve previously had laser but still had quite a lot of hair, after just 1 treatment I would say about 70% of the hair is gone already and the rest that’s there has grown back a lot slower which is fantastic. On the areas where I’ve had less laser treatments before like my underarms it’s got rid of about 50% of the hairs after the first treatment. I’ve never had laser on my face so this is the area I’ve not seen much difference to yet as I’ve only done one treatments so far. I’m hopeful after another 1 or 2 sessions that will also be mostly hair free.
Overall the difference this has made to my confidence alone has been worth the RRP in my opinion. It’s going to enable me to take my daughter swimming without feeling self conscious of a shaving rash or stubble. It’s definitely a game changer for me so I genuinely can’t recommend it highly enough.
Slow burner which REALLY works
I ordered this IPL Cordless 9000 hair removal system for my Mum, she is in a constant battle with her thick dark hair with no other system that has improved her quality of life. She was reliant of using a saloon IPL system but has been unable to continue during lockdown restrictions.
Arrived really well packaged in small premium box.
When opening box it’s doesn’t look like your getting a lot for your purchase, you receive a IPL gun with 3 head attachments and and charging lead. IPL system can be used both as a cordless gun or with lead so you will never have to stop mid treatment if charge runs out. Also IPL gun only works on the top settings with lead in.
Easy to set up and download app which does help especially with your own confidence in using this zapper. IPL gun sensors pick up your skin tone with indicator on top showing setting you should use. This IPL gun can not be used on really light, grey or red hair.
This method is no quick fix or miracle solution to all your excessive hair problems, it takes time, commitment and perseverance to succeed but I can assure you it is worth it at a fraction of the price of using Saloon for IPL removal.
I would advise shaving unwanted hair before starting treatments, helps IPL laser work straight into the roots. First 4 treatments too be completed every other week, it is really tempting to rush the schedule forward but follow the experts. Don’t expect smooth skin overnight or in five minutes. Full treatment takes about 2 hours and I strongly advise don’t use higher setting than skin test recommended, does not improve results and will burn your skin.
Overall, this is a great quality product which actually works as good or even better than Saloons IPL treatment systems. You will see significant changes after a few months that will change your life completely. My mum now only has a tops up treatment every 4 weeks and seen a massive reduction of hair growth.
I would recommend this product.
Simple to use - Cordless - Not suitable for all skin / hair types
First of all, this device is not suitable for all skin and hair types so make sure you do your research before buying. Secondly, don’t expect instant results. You need at least 3/4 treatments before noticing a difference so it is definitely something to invest in before the Summer. My partner really likes this product so far but is yet to see the full results. The item itself looks great and simple to use. To get the best results, make sure you follow the instructions and stick to the recommended sessions.
It appears to work
This does appear to work, based on 4 treatments and the unit is pretty easy to use, although it’s true to say this can take some time for each treatment. My tester (no names!!) hasnt been brave enough to use it for facial hair, as this is a little uncomfortable on the more sensitive areas. I think its important to manage your expectations of the effect – this isnt going to be a “use it and forget it” treatment, you will have to use it regularly to deal with regrowth and it really is something to use with care, but then if it was a single treatment device you wouldnt pay 400 for it, I guess. And given that price, some proper research is in order, as this doesn’t work on every skin tone or hair colour, so do make sure you understand what this is and how it works before you hand over the cash
Pro-Level Home IPL Epilato
This is the second Philips epilator I’ve owned and a significant update to the one I’ve had for a few years now which was around half the price but a little bulkier and less powerful with fewer accessories. The power is really impressive for the price and it’s very quick and thorough with longer hairs especially and I love how quickly you can get a larger area done with little fuss thanks to the big head and very well designed body attachments making it so easy to guide and use with the swivel, light and being cordless. This is probably as close to professional level quality you will get without going to a salon – really impressive and would recommend.
Read this before ordering the NEW 2021 BRI955/00 Edition to get all the facts.
Before trying this, I used to use a cheaper laser hair removal machine, and I have to be honest it pretty much did nothing. This Phillips Laser Hair Removal machine is definitely an upgrade compared to the other one and I was very excited to try it, it had great reviews and I had very high hopes since I was sure it would work.
It arrived very quickly and was packaged well. Everything is packaged up inside one box, so it is easy to store everything together and all in one place. It comes with 3 attachments because this machine can be sued on the whole body. It is easy to start using and to change the heads from one to another.
The machine is much bigger and heavier than my other one, and there are many more different settings that can be changed as well. I really like the look of it, and the colours as well, it makes it look very high quality and stylish. The buttons are a good size and clear to see, easy to press and when a button lights up it is obvious which is great.
It is suitable for use on pretty much every skin colour but only a couple of hair colours, including brown and black. It does not work on very dark skin, so make sure you check everything out before buying this.
The Smart Skin sensor has 5 different settings, and you can choose which one you like based on your preferences and how much you can handle, but it can also choose for you based on your skin tone and gives you the light setting that’s most comfortable for you. I recommend downloading the app because it helps to further personalise your experience to make it even better for you.
This product can be used with the cord connected or without, but when it is connected it’s faster and the highest setting can be used longer. I would recommend that you when using you start on the first level, and work your way up since you can burn yourself.
I used this for my legs only since I wanted to test it out first and using the face feature can be quite scary since you never know what could happen on a different area of your body. If you have the courage then you can use it on other parts like the face, underarms etc
I haven’t been using it for months, so I haven’t gotten the best results, however after a couple of weeks of use I can say there is some difference. But if I keep using it there will be better results, so make sure you use it continuously on the recommended sessions.
Overall, a good machine and if you want it then I recommend it. However, make sure you use it at the recommended times and not skip sessions because that can affect results. A bit on the expensive side, so make sure you read a lot about it and make sure you really want it, since there may be others better for you.
Reasonable IPL
A decent, mid-priced [ish] IPL.
No, you won’t see results instanta -it takes several weeks / months of application, and provides results over the longer term, but work good examples do. And this is a good example.
Well-made and neatly styled, this Philips Lumea unit is a straightforward one to use; functionality is perfectly straightforward with three detachable heads to adapt to different areas, and programmes that adjust on the fly to different skin tones, positions etc. Being cordless, it’s also convenient. Controls are a bit on the small side, but work well, so no issues there. Like most such beasts, it is at its most effective with paler skins with dark hair for optimal contrast, while applies here; I can’t comment on others. Given these conditions though, it seems solid, so a straightforward (if not cheap) recommendation if you’re in the market for such a product.
Packaging is modest, as is the unit size, which feels and looks rather like a very large pebble. So it fits the hand easily -perhaps a touch too easily as it can be a little easy to catch buttons inadvertently. A minor quibble. Being corded, no need for separate chargers, and the number of flashes seems high. The claim is that it suits most skin-tones, and hair colours aside from very pale / white shades, which given the nature of the beast seems understandable. It can also be used everywhere, apart from around the eyes or near tattoos -presumably in the latter case to avoid premature breakdown of the ink, and while the marketing clearly leans toward what will no doubt be the key feminine customers, it is made clear it can be used by both / all genders. Use is painless, reasonably brisk in operation depending on the size of area to be covered, and it does seem to do what is claimed in terms of gradual hair reduction; since mine is quite coarse, I suspect finer hair may be more rapidly affected. Overall, it seems to be a good, well-conceived product that can be recommended.
Simple and safe
I’d expected a slightly daunting experience with this, but it couldn’t be simpler to set up and operate. Once charged (or kept corded if convenient), you simply select the flash head required for the body area you’re treating – each head is clearly indicated where it’s meant to be used – gently place it on the skin, wait for the ‘ready’ indicator to light up, and click the trigger. There’s a brief flash, and a very slight warmth, then you move on to the next area of skin until you’ve covered where you’re treating. It’s quick, safe – you can’t flash it unless it’s securely against the skin – and totally painless.
As with all IPL units, the hair must be shaved in advance for the light to effectively work on it.
Build quality is exceptional, from the main unit and flash heads right down to the power pack and travel bag. It’s clearly a premium offering.
The app is a really good addition here as well. You can select your programme (body area) and it will give you scheduled reminders for treatments – perfect for keeping on top of the required sessions and making the most out of the system. It also effectively works as a user guide.
Overall, although it’s early days for actual results at the time of writing, this is an extremely well-build piece of kit that I have no qualms in recommending.
The best device on the market with the best results
I have used a much cheaper Chinese version of this, it used IPL so I did not think this would be that much different but was pleasantly surprised. This is costly but you do get what you pay for with this. Firstly, the build quality is brilliant, it’s a sold piece of equipment, quite heavy to hold and has a premium feel to it. It’s got an ergonomic design to it and even the flash windows are curved to contour with your skin. This device is also suitable for all skin tones so there is no special model to buy. This model is cordless so you can use it anywhere and everywhere.
Do not expect results straight away, it will take quite a few session before you see noticeable results, the hair became thinner first before it limits growth. Then you need to keep on top of it every 1-2 weeks. This isn’t a lot of effort really for such great results.
One of the differences between this model and a cheaper Chinese brand I had before is the lamp life. The cheaper brands will only last for a certain number of flashes before you need to replace the whole thing, where this can last 15 years or more.
Using the device is super easy however the manual does suggest you do a skin test first and asks you to avoid using sunbeds for some reason. You also need to shave first. You can adjust the intensity levels but I use the skin sensor to choose for me. Press the trigger to flash your skin then move to the next spot. It’s painless and there is little effort involved. There are different flash windows for different body parts like face, underarm and bikini areas. Some have filters on the window for safety so you don’t get UV rays in your eyes.
I really like this device, it is the best on the market and you get the results. It’s long-life lamps, different window heads, its cordless/corded and easy to use design all make this a premium product.
If you’re on the same quest as I am for easy, painless hair removal, this is a fantastic machine.
I have medium toned skin and very dark brown, thick hair so when these home hair removal machines first came out several years ago I found them to be less effective for me.
This machine is suitable for a wide range of hair/skin tones and I find it to be the most effective home removal method (I’ve tried many)
The huge plus points for me are:
+Cordless- SO convenient to be able to use this anywhere, while multitasking
+Lightweight, it’s not too bulky or heavy to use for extended periods of time
+Comes with attachments specific to the are you’re using it on- face, body or underarms
+Relatively painless- this is subjective of course. I find waxing much more painful, and epilating is considerably more painful! The sensation of using this machine is like a short prickle. The first time using it was more noticeable than subsequent sessions, I guess I got used to it the more I used it
+Hair regrowth becomes so fine. This is the best part for me as my hairs are thick. As any regrowth is so fine I don’t have to shave very often in between as I can hardly see it. The gap between needing to use the machine becomes longer as I’ve used to for longer
I really like the fact that this has a sensor to detect which setting you should be using. This has drastically reduced my hair growth so it takes less and less time to use. It’s worth sticking with it and the app can help keep track of when you need to use i
Philips Lumea 9000 Series, 2021 versio
A very good IPL system but also very expensive. For this price I had expected a hard case and not a cheap feeling leather case that would be no good whatsoever at protecting the device for travelling. The charging adapter would likely also be too big to use for travelling and would likely leave at home, meaning it could result in a reduction of charge and not being able to charge it during travels as the adapter isn’t travel friendly. I was also slightly disappointed with the device that feature two small scratches so finishing could also be better. I had also expected it to come with some kind of glasses as cheaper devices do as the bright red light that flashes is quite intense especially to the eye and would be very intense in a very dark room. Overall it does it’s job for intended use, not quite sure between the different between this Philips model and other models which are much cheaper though. But you can tell when it is in your hands it is a premium device. It features multiple different heads for the body, face and bikini area to ensure the best dosage of light for each area minimising irritation. It is not painful whatsoever and works very well, easy to use and the manuals are very clear and concise.
Good laser hair removal device
My girlfriend has been testing this product out for me and she likes it.The laser comes complete with 3 different curved heads, suitable for different body areas.
The laser gun is comfortable to hold and has 5 strength settings which can be increased or decreased to suit.
The gun is white, with a Rose gold border separating the head and the handle. The heads are coloured brown.
So far my girlfriend has only tried 1 treatment in 3 different body areas so a bit difficult to evaluate how effective the laser treatment is.
However, she has informed me that the treatment is fairly painful,so not quite as perfect as Phillips would have you believe from the device description on the product listing on Amazon.
This laser is also expensive coming in at 400,so you really need to consider, whether this is for you.
I will update the review once my girlfriend completes multiple treatments.
This is the best and most advanced IPL product in the market.
Key features:
1) Smooth operation: Very easy to operate, light weight still quite efficient
2) Suitable for multiple skin tones and hair colours like: Brown, black, blond etc
3) Multiple attachments: 3 different attachments to fit every curve. Choose as per your body and precision you are looking.
4) Smart / Intelligence: It detects your skin tone and gives you indicator for a light setting for your body area
Over all its a great product. The price is at higher end but its worth.
