It’s Wall-E
I bought this for my brother for Xmas. He is an engineer so it didn’t take him long to build but he loved it. It really does look like Wall-E! Remote control ok. Bit pricey but with 3 models to choose from and a remote control it’s probably reasonable. Brother happy, so I’m happy and Wall-E now has pride of place on my brother’s windowsill!

Once finished it is great, a little challenging to assemble but got there in the end. The difference colours on the instructions could have been a little clearer.
It’s quite clear where they took their inspriation from with the aesthetics for this but to be fair Wall-E rocks and this lovable little dude does him proud. A fun kit for aspiring engineers probably from about 8 and up. To be fair I’d be more than happy to find this under the Christmas tree for myself.

This is a fantastic piece of kit.
What is great is that it provides so much entertainment and fun — constructing a robot-type object.
With a bit of care and attention to detail, a lot of pleasure can come from this. This is not a quick build, and taking time with it pays dividends. A great one for building between an adult and a child. It is a great toy, and really fun. An ideal Xmas gift for any buddying engineer or young person that you want to inspire.
This is a brilliant STEM construction kit, which can be built into not one but three different robots and comes with a first-rate remote control.
Granted, the task initially looks pretty daunting when you see the number and variety of components, but the instructions are both comprehensive and easy to follow. It just requires time and patience.
My 6 year-old grandson needed a lot of help from his dad to put this together, but despite some of the construction being quite fiddly, he never lost interest in the task. And of course he was over the moon when he was able to operate the remote and see his creation come to life.
Apart from the outstanding quality, the best thing about this kit is the multiple-build aspect. It’s effectively three challenges in one box — two robots and a dinosaur. As soon as you tire with one, you can take the whole thing apart and build something else.
It’s for this reason that I’m not going to quibble about the 46.99 price tag, which comes with a 6-off voucher (at time of review). Considering what you get, it’s very good value for money.
I’d estimate that children aged 8 and over could manage this on their own, but it also makes a fun parent/child project for younger children.

Epic little robot... Hours of entertainme
We got this to build with my nephew, who has just turned 6. It honestly looks like the most awesome toy ever and any kid would love it. There’s a lot of bits, which tested my patience… But it actually is a really cool gadget.

* Easy instructions with all the bits bagged up sensibly
* 3 different build styles (you can rebuild it)
* Remote controlled base very responsive

I’m always a bit nervous when I see all the bits in the bags for toys like this, but I ended up building this with my nephew and it took us about 2 hours to complete fully with very little disagreement! But before we started building it, we put the base on charge to ensure it would be ready when we were finished.
The instructions are as you’d expect, very straightforward and you’ll be familiar with it if you’ve built Lego models before. I didn’t have any issues where I got stuck or didn’t understand and all the parts were there. Plus, they just slot together so it was pretty easy for my nephew to help as it’s not too complicated.
It works in the fact there’s the electronic base, where you add the tracks to enable movement. We decided to do the Wall-EE one first because we love the character.
It looks amazing once complete. I’m never a fan of doing the stickers at the end as it feels so final but it’s quite obvious where they go.
The finished build is quite a good size, and the sense of accomplishment after building this mini robot and then being able to actually move it… Completely amazing! It’s also surprisingly robust given it moves and can knock into structures. We’ve not had any accidents or breakages (yet).
With the remote (which has a cool pixelated design), you can move it forwards and backwards with the two joysticks, either doing both at once to move it completely or just one to turn it. There’s also an app which is pretty seamless to connect and set up for controls but to be honest we preferred the physical controller to reduce complexity or the need for a smartphone.
Battery life isn’t too bad. I found it charged a bit slowly but it did last about half an hour on a full charge as advertised.
All in all, for a kid, this would make a special and unique gift. It’s a lot of things in one and I feel would teach patience and also the reward when you’re finished that you’ve basically just made a toy you can fully interact with! I’ve enjoyed doing the activity with my nephew and he’s loved it too, and whenever he comes round he wants to play with it and change it slightly.

Awesome little robot, with straightforward familiar instructions if you’ve built brick models before, that takes a little while to build but looks amazing once done. 6 year old nephew loved the challenge and the remote is responsive and works perfectly.

Great quality stem bo
With having a 10-year-old boy this isn’t my first stem rodeo, thankfully this hasn’t put me off. The VEPOWER Stem kit is a high-quality fun project for your kids, the kit comes like lego, you have to build the robot from scratch, and it comes with clear-to-read instructions, a motor, and a controller, but you can also use the app to control the bot.
You can build three different types of bots with this kit, we built the wall-e style one, and it was great fun, some frustrations along the way but overall a pleasant experience. The app connected to the bot with no issues, the app seems a bit basic but it’s okay enough.
One thing though, is the pieces are really hard to pull apart so don’t know if we will be rebuilding it but apart from that it’s great value, and if you or your kids are into stem kits this is a great option.
Superb item for child or adul
My husband and son built this as a project together, it taken them 2 days because my husband let my son take the lead and wanted him to feel proud of doing it by himself but also wanted him to know his dad was there for support and to enjoy the experience.
The functions are fantastic, it’s very quick and they have spent days with it zooming up and down my hall and having racing challenges. ( they built a make shift assault course with cups and pillows lol)
This would make a fantastic gift for anyone who like last robotics

This is a fantastic toy! It’s easy to build, the parts went together well with no issues and the instructions were very clear. Once built the robot is brilliant, it operates well on all floor types, easily navigated small obstacles such as cables. The remote is easy to use, and the robot itself is not too slow. Excellent, highly recommended!
Great STEM robot, ideal gift idea for kids interested in building toys
This is a very complicated and interesting toy. I think it makes great idea for a Christmas or birthday if the child is interesting in these sort of stuff.
It comes with 436 pieces, so not something you would build in a few minutes. It requires some focus and time, but it would be a great activity to do with your child.
The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The pieces fit easily together. It can also be powered up by using an USB charger once it’s done.
It says 6+ on the box but I believe the description of the product which says 8-12 is more accurate. Either way, it is a great item to get for your loved one.
A great gift for kids to teach them about maths and building.
This robot toy was delivered quickly and in good quality packaging. You have to build the robot first before you play with it and there are different designs and ways in which you can build it. However, the instructions are clear and whatever you want to build the instructions are easy to follow.
It takes some time to build if you are a beginner at these kids, I did it with my son and we took a couple of hours. When we were done we used the remote and then the app to control it and see what it could do. It works really well and is quite impressive.
Great gift idea and I highly recommend it for the price.

This product I must say is more for the older kids or younger kids with some adult support. It does take some time to build and there are some smaller parts to this but I must say once it’s done it’s well worth it.
The movement on it is really smooth and the connection with the phone is really good.

Hi, this is a great set, my 10 year old son put it together with ease, he’s used to building sets, so no issues with following the instructions, its a fun looking character, like a Wall E, and as a set goes it clicks together quite good, its actually quite nippy as well, we haven’t used the app, just been using the remote which is simple enough to use, you can’t go wrong buying this, anyone should love it, I’ve paid more for sets that wasn’t half as good as this, its a great toy

Brilliant toy and a winner for Xmas
Robot building kit. Make your own ‘No. 5’ and bring him to life. Aimed at children 6+
There are a lot of very small parts to this set and a long-detailed instruction booklet. Luckily the instructions are of a pictorial nature and so fairly easy to follow. This will bring hours of fun creating your own robot. I think parents may need to be a little involved in the creation or you might find the kids showing you what to do. Once built can be powered up with a USB charger.
There is a lot of flexibility with this model and it’s a brilliant toy. I think this will be a bit hit especially if it’s for Xmas.

Remote control robot or dinosaur building blocks
This is a great building kit for older children, there are 100’s of bricks in all shapes and sizes. It’s not a quick build but does keep the child entertained for quite a while.
It can be built unto either 2 different robots or a dinosaur (but not at the same time) and all can be controlled by the remote unit.
The battery pack is charged via the included USB lead
If you bought this for a 6 year old they would need help with building it, in my opinion a child if 8 could probably build it by themselves.

Convincing compatible, cute character, slightly underbaked app
Pixar are probably on the phone to their lawyers right now about this product, so on the off-chance that they are successful, if you’re considering buying it, buy it quite soon! The shape is unmistakably Wall-E, as any kid will tell you, with the triangular caterpillar wheels, yellow box body and sad binocular-shaped eyes. It’s a very sweet design that Vepower have, erm, borrowed.
For a Lego-compatible-but-not-Lego set, the current asking price just shy of fifty quid is surprisingly high. I’ve tried other similar Technics-ish sets with around 400 to 500 pieces from non-Lego brands and the price has typically been around half that fifty quid figure, even if a remote control motor is included.
However the remote control motor is definitely quite advanced, with the extra option of app control, and that’s where the cost really goes. It’s not just a simple RC steer-and-go motor, it does offer a bit more. That becomes evident when you connect it. Though the product description studiously avoids mentioning Bluetooth for some reason, it is a bluetooth connectivity that’s reasonably easy for a grown-up to set up, and you can get going with it reasonably quickly.
The app has clearly been ‘indirectly influenced’ by the Scratch-style block series programming approach that Lego Boost also uses, which is a good thing in principle as it’s a very intuitive sign that kids seem to understand easily. Unfortunately, the app feels a little under-baked, and while the simpler gyro and driving controls are reasonably stable, the block functions feel rather clunky, definitely like an under-tested and under-developed copy when you’re accustomed to using Scratch.
Moving away from the software side, the hardware is pretty decent. With most of the pieces, you’d be hard pushed to tell the difference between these and the Lego equivalent pieces without very close inspection. The caterpillar track clicks together very easily and is completely interchangeable. The motor block is actually a bit more conveniently shaped than Lego’s Boost motor, allowing you to build a wider range of different top designs on it without making it so heavy that the motor can’t move itself- but in Boost’s defence, there are plenty of things it can do that this motor can’t. The actual motion elements of the build are fairly fixed to the caterpillar concept- you won’t be using these bits to build a leg-walking machine.
Assembly is ‘compatible typical’, with an isometric instruction style that’s extremely familiar from other brands, and a step-by-step approach that’s mostly very methodical and clear. There are a small handful of steps which might have failed Lego’s instruction rules, by loading too many pieces on a row at once or by putting two pieces on in the same step where one is obscured by the other, but generally it isn’t hard to work out if a grown-up is involved. The print quality is decent and unlike some other sets, you don’t end up wondering “is that a grey piece or a black piece?”, thankfully.
The yellow colour is nice and bold and a good match for Lego’s Volvo range of Technics. The Wall-E sits alongside a Volvo lifter and looks surprisingly convincing, except for the entirely different scale of course.
We haven’t tried ‘mode B’ (angry robot) or ‘mode C’ (odd-looking dinosaur) yet, because my kids are still happy enough wheeling Wall-E around, and not willing to unpick their hard work in the assembly quite yet.
As compatible sets go, this one is quite expensive for the pieces included. And the programming and app control needs a fair bit of refinement. However, if you’re looking for something like Lego Boost but on a tighter budget, you could have a fair bit of fun with this.
A good toy for robot or Wall-E lovers.
This toy robot would make an ideal gift for a kid or lovers of Wall-E.
The whole thing can be a little bit daunting when you get the pieces out of the box, but the instructions are clear and soon enough you have a functioning remote control robot.
It doesn’t stop there though, you can rebuilt it into another robot version or a dinosaur, so you’ve got potentially hours of build time to get stuck into.
As well as the remote, it can also be controlled by downloading the app too, so there are options on that front.
All in all, it’s a good STEM toy, but perhaps slightly on the expensive side at 48.99, which was the price at time of writing.
