Tempes
Purchased to go with the airfix wartime tempest. Again, well moulded, nice cockpit detail xxx nice panel lines, well printed decals, coloured instructions for paint schemes. Eventually, be next to a matchbox tempest from 1991? , but, better detailed!
Great model ki
My son is at an age where he wants clothes or money for Christmas and this year he wanted something he could open and create. Some kits come with paint but some don’t so be careful when choosing! Luckily he had other kits that did have paint he could use.
He found them really rewarding to make. They can be a bit fiddly but if you’re creative and good at making things this shouldn’t present a problem.
Great model with good detail
Easy assembly with good instructions. The only issue I had was the Pilot in his seat on the Jet Engine sits slightly too high,so a bit of sanding, filler and a bit of adjustment is needed to make it look OK.
Model
Good airfix model. Well detailed. 3 versions to build. Straightforward to build and looks good completed.
These have been changing hands for 100 pounds plus glad airfix released it agai
Another winner from Airfix
Airfix are going from strength to strength at the moment and the MiG 17 kit is an excellent addition to their catalogue.
I haven’t built the kit yet but looking at the runners this appears to be a cracking kit. I’m not too sure about the back to the ejector seat as it looks a bit anorexic to my eye. A replacement resin seat would not go amiss.
I have bought a set of aftermarket decals – Xtradecal 72313 – and I suspect I will be buying a few more copies of this kit!
As I said I haven’t built the kit yet but based on what I have seen from the modelling press and the runners I don’t think I’m going to be disappointed. Would I recommend this? Yes and I think a novice with a few kits under their belt would enjoy this. Oh… and don’t forget to put some weight in the nose!
Just a little addition to the review. Bought 2 more. I can certainly recommend this kit!
OK, I’ve built other models from this tool before so this is just “what’s changed?”
We now have a No 4 CFS red, white and grey No1 scheme (box art) and a “The Navy” machine from Hot Shots! [DVD ] as the No2 scheme. You’ll probably guess from the title that this is why I bought the kit.
Compared with earlier releases, there’s a little flash on the underside centrepiece for the wheels down option and some of the ejector pin marks need a quick wipe with sandpaper. So it’s not an ideal first kit but most people should be able to get a good result.
Be user to follow the instructions when they say to fit the intake lips before the inner duct sides/rear cockpit side panels (clear when you see the instructions), and if you’re doing the No2 scheme you may need to fill some of the slipper tank decals. Also, on this scheme you’re not going to decal it in one session because the 16 “rocket ports” on the tank fronts are represented (correctly) by 16 separate decals.
