Very elegant Porsche monitor, but prone to ghosting when gaming
I bought this monitor for 239 pounds on black Friday of 2023, which was quite a discount from the 429 original price, I was deciding between this and a BenQ EX2710q which had great speakers and was cheaper but I decided to go with the giggles and buy the Porsche one because it’s Porsche and of course I got to buy the cool one. And for what it offers to stand out from the others, I am quite happy with it. It however took quite a bit to ship (1-2 months) with no estimated date which worried me as I had no idea when it would arrive. But when it finally did, it arrived in a huge box due to it’s stand.
Speaking of its stand, I think it speaks for itself, which stands out, all metal and is built well but takes a bit more space on the desk compared to normal stands. And the monitor isn’t boring looking too, with a big Porsche Design logo on the back and the Porsche Design text on the front, RGB on the sides which isn’t too bright and more for if you were looking behind it to appreciate, but I keep it off. Headphone hangers on either sides which is a really nice plus, and almost every port you need with: 4 USB ports, 2 HDMIs, 2 Display Ports and headphone jack passthrough. It has all the bells and whistles of a monitor that you would want.
In the box it came with: The power brick. 3 different region based plug type power cables (EU,NA,UK) , HDMI and DisplayPort cable, 3.5mm headphone passthrough cable, and a crazy surprise of a USB drive with the manual and drivers, and also with the Porsche Design logo and neat looking which looks pretty cool!
The speakers that is comes with are okay, not good for music but fine for watching content, I have it set to 50 volume, DTS sound to Game and with TruVolume to On, which sounds best to me.
It also has 10 bit colors which is a nice extra, and goes up to 400 nits and HDR, while not good for HDR standards, still is decently bright and works well enough. Great colors and looks great for watching if you are okay with IPS displays (with dimmer content).
However one thing which slightly annoys me is that I noticed when gaming that it does have a bit of ghosting when I am using it, I am not too knowledgeable with displays but I have turned off Overdrive (which reduces the input delay I believe) which does improve it but is still somewhat prone is ghosting, it may be because that it is not running at full framerate in some games. But I would assume that IPS displays would be not as bad compared to VA panels. I think MBRT would improve this but some settings are a bit confusing so I won’t say too much on this topic. But it does seem more prone to ghosting than your average gaming monitor.
But besides that little thing, the design, all the bells and whistles on this thing, the extra usb drive that is really nice, the HDR, the colors (I’m not an expert on anything so don’t quote me on that) are pretty good. Highly recommended if you want a unique, special monitor that stands out from the crowd and wouldn’t mind spending a little more for the design then you won’t regret it, 8.5/10
I found it quite difficult to find many reviews of this monitor so figured it would be worth taking the time to leave a user review of this product.
I previously owned the Alienware AW3423DWF OLED ultrawide however experienced burn-in after just over one year of usage so wanted to find an alternative which was something a bit better than your run of the mill IPS ultrawide. I have now owned the AG344UXM for six weeks and have not experienced any of the issues highlighted in other Amazon reviews (please note to filter reviews for this model [34 inch QHD 170hz]). I can only assume there was previously a bad batch.
POSITIVES
– USB-C port with PD allows charging of devices through the monitor – I think it’s 90w or 100w. Either way, I am able to charge all of my devices without needing separate cables/plugs. Good charging performance on S24 Ultra, HP Elitebook and Steam Deck.
– Image quality and colour vibrancy comparable to OLED without the risk of OLED burn-in. Much better colours than a standard IPS monitor.
– FreeSync implementation works perfectly, no issues whatsoever.
– VESA mountable – note that the monitor is quite heavy and thicker than most other flat Ultrawide displays so make sure you have a decent arm which can support the monitor weight of around 10KG without the stand. I personally use an Ergotron LX which works great.
– 170hz refresh rate is plenty quick enough for pretty much everything apart from eSport titles.
NEGATIVES
– I needed to do a lot of tweaking in the first few days/week of usage until I was happy with the picture – this is probably just personal preference however unlike this one, previous monitors I’ve used were fine out of the box.
– When using the USB hub, I would occasionally have to power off/on the monitor for it to “kick into life”. I don’t know if this was a setting not set right or if simply a design flaw, but it occurred enough for me to stop using the built-in hub for this purpose. This would be a major annoyance and flaw if I was using the KVM functionality of this display.
– Draws around 100 watts of continuous power on average, but this is to be expected considering the specification of the display.
Overall I’m very happy with the monitor. There are a couple of negatives but it gets the basics spot-on and the negatives aren’t too much of a drawback all things considered. I fully recommend this monitor if you’re considering an OLED (or just a high-quality IPS display) but have concerns around burn in and longevity. I paid 600 for this which I think is a great price all things considered.
Made in China with quality that tells you so.
Fantastic image quality with lots of useful adjustments. Quality to stay the distance unsure. The component connections look less than quality (delicate almost) and are not centered in housings. Dell they are not. Service availability unsure but I believe I have 12 months from Amazon Warehouse so hate to return as I like it. Gaming given the above, has not been tried but reviews speak very, very highly. I am not a gamer but the screen image has seduced me and for the sum of 378 too. My head says return the ‘like new’ item but my heart says KEEP IT. Dear, Oh dear, what a choice as I love it. It is a bit of a chunky in the casing and I cannot see how it is an OLED screen as is claimed by some – but I am not really up to speed on that Tech so tread warily. Hmmmm on longevity……….
Best 4k hdmi monitor I was able to find for £600, totally worth it.
Compared this with the same price version of Dell and Philips. Although Dell HDR is a little bit better this provides built in docking station and you can plug in laptop and get it charged. You can also use this with Ur laptop and Ur computer to share a single keyboard and mouse as has KVM/built in… For the computer u need to add USB from monitor to computer… For the laptop you would be using through the usb C connection. Nicely thought… At release price point, this was not a good buy.
Great monitor!
Looks really nice on ps5! colours are very bright in HDR. nice to wfh as well! pricy but worth it.
